ALL BRAKE HYDRAULIC LINES ARE RUSTED, ALL FUEL SUPPLY LINES ARE RUSTED, EXCESSIVE RUST ON FRAME AND OTHER UNDERCARRIAGE COMPONENTS, BRAKE ROTORS, CALIPERS ALL COVERED WITH EXCESSIVE. RUST. THESE DEFECTS HAVE SERIOUS SAFETY IMPLICATIONS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS OR OTHERS. GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES AND REPLACE ALL MAJOR CORRODED BRAKE COMPONENTS WITH NON CORROSIVE METALS, BRAKE FLUID LINES, FUEL LINES, RUSTED FRAMES AND ANY OTHER COMPONENTS. MANY ACCIDENTS WILL BE OCCURRING BECAUSE OF BRAKING FAILURES AND FRAME FAILURE. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE ANY OTHER FAILURES OCCUR. THESE GM TRUCKS ALSO HAVE DEFECTIVE STEERING BOXES THAT FEEL LOOSE WHEN ROUNDING CORNERS. I HAVE HAD A 1995, 2001, 2002 CHEVY AND GMC WITH SAME PROBLEM THEY NEVER STOOD BEHIND THIS PROBLEM OTHER THAN TO PUT SOME GREASE IN WHICH WAS A TEMPORARY FIX. *TR
BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES MUST BE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUSTING. BLEW A BRAKE LINE AND HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL. ADDITIONALLY, THE FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND HAD TO BE WELDED. LOOKING AT REPAIR COSTS BETWEEN $1500 - $3000 DEPENDING UPON HOW THIS GOES. *TR
AFTER SECURING 10 PALLETS IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK AND BEGINNING THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE LOCAL LUMBER YARD, I DEPRESSED THE BREAKS TO STOP AT THE FIRST LIGHT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, SO I DOWNSHIFTED AND BEGAN TO DEPRESS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. AT THIS POINT I HAD MY WIFE PICK UP THE CHILDREN SO THEY WOULD NOT BE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I PROCEEDED HOME (LESS THAT 1.5 MILES) AT A REDUCED SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES AN HOUR. DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PROVIDED MARGINAL STOPPING CAPABILITY. IT WAS SUFFICIENT STOPPING POWER FOR A VEHICLE TRAVELING ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR AT 100 FEET. UNDER THE VEHICLE AFTER THE ANTILOCK BRAKING BOX, THE ONE LINE WAS SPRAYING BRAKE FLUID WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE RUST WAS SO SEVERE, WHEN GOING TO CUT THE LINE, THE LINE ACTUALLY CRUSHED INWARDS WITH NO APPARENT GOOD METAL. IN SPLICING THE LINE I WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE PROPER CLEARANCE TO RECONNECT THE LINE TO THE ANTILOCK BRAKING BOX, SO MY MECHANIC WILL BE WORKING THIS SHORTLY. THE OTHER LINES LOOK EQUALLY BAD SO I WILL HAVE THOSE REPLACED AS WELL. I HAVE NEVER SEEN RUST THIS BAD ON MY VEHICLES EVEN OLDER THAN THIS ONE. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE "BAYSIDE CHEVROLET" DEALER IN PRINCE FREDERICK, MD. SORRY, I DON'T KNOW THE EXACT MILEAGE BUT IS APPROX. 156,000. I WAS AT AN ENTERPRISE RENTAL CAR FACILITY HELPING MY DAUGHTER PICKUP HER RENTAL CAR. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN MY NAME SINCE SHE IS UNDER 21. SO MY DAUGHTER WENT INTO MY TRUCK TO DRIVE IT HOME (2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4X4). WHEN SHE PUSHED THE BRAKE AND PUT IT IN REVERSE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WALKED OVER TO THE VEHICLE WHEN SHE CALLED ME OVER AND NOTICED LOTS OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND NEAR THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER MENTIONED ABOVE WHERE IT IS NOW. I BRIEFLY LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND NOTICED SEVERE CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE UNDER-SIDE. THE DEALER CALLED ME AND SAID ALL THE BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY ASKED ME "DO YOU GO OFF-ROAD?", I SAID "NO". THEN THEY ASKED "DID YOU RUN OVER ANY LARGE OBJECTS?", I SAID "NO". THEN SHE SAID "MAYBE RODENTS?"; OK, LETS NOT GET RIDICULOUS, I THOUGHT. THE ESTIMATE IS $1,300. I ASKED THEM TO NOT DO REPAIRS UNTIL MY INSURANCE INSPECTOR CAN DOCUMENT THE DAMAGE FOR A CLAIM I SUBMITTED. THE INSPECTOR IS SUPPOSED TO SHOW AT THE DEALER SOMETIME SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2011. STATE FARM CLAIM# [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL "DROPPED" TO THE FLOOR AND ALL BRAKING WAS LOST. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DOWNSHIFT AND USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP SAFELY. UPON INVESTIGATION OF THE FAILURE, THE STEEL BRAKE LINES LOCATED BELOW THE DRIVERS SEAT, UNDER THE CAB, WERE FOUND TO BE HEAVILY CORRODED AND RUPTURED DUE TO THE CORROSION CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WHILE PARKED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED A FAILURE WITH THE FUEL INJECTOR PUMP. THE CONTACT PUMPED AIR OUT OF THE FUEL INJECTORS AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR AND FUEL INJECTOR PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED PRIOR TO HAVING OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE REPLACED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO ANTI LOCK BRAKES. BRAKES ACTIVATE AT SPEEDS LOWER THAN 5 MILES AN HOUR, AND EXTENDS MY BRAKING DISTANCE, WHICH HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT IS OCCURRING UNDER RECALL BULLETIN 05068B, BUT MY VEHICLES VIN NUMBER IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL. CAN THE RECALL BULLETIN BE REVISED TO INCLUDE MY VIN NUMBER, DUE TO MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS? I HAVE SPOKE WITH CHVEY CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE DEALERSHIP, ABOUT COVERING THE COST OF THE REPAIRS OR AT LEAST PARTIAL COST, BOTH REFUSE TO COVER ANYTHING BECAUSE THE VIN # IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL BULLETIN. *TR

BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST AND CORROSION. LUCKILY I WAS ON A SIDE STREET DIVING SLOW AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. WHEN I WENT TO STOP THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO USE THE E-BRAKE TO STOP AND BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK FROM A VERY RUSTED AND BROKEN BRAKE LINE. WHY WON'T GM DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS???????? *TR *KB
TRUCK ONLY HAS 66K AND BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH. SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL WITH NO RECALL AS OF YET. EXTREMELY COSTLY TO REPAIR! WOULD LIKE TO SEE A STUDY DONE OF OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE METAL BRAKE LINE WHICH RUNS ALONG THE FRAME, AT THE POINT WHERE IT CONNECTS TO A FLEXIBLE HOSE THAT SERVICES THE REAR BRAKES HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND AS A CONSEQUENCE ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID HAS LEAKED OUT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR. *TT
NHTSA INVESTIGATION NUMBER: EA11001 - BRAKE LINE FAILURE, STEEL BRAKE LINE UNDER LEFT SIDE OF CAB RUPTURED DUE TO RUST AND BRAKE FLUID LEAKED OUT OF BRAKE SYSTEM. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND ALL 4 STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED VERY BADLY UNDER LEFT SIDE OF CAB, ADDITIONAL BRAKE LINE RUST FOUND ON ALL STEEL BRAKE LINES, UNDER HOOD IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT, ALONG FRAME, UNDER CAB, AND UNDER TRUCK BED. ONE OF THESE STEEL BRAKE LINES RUPTURED RESULTING IN COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE DUE TO LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID WHILE DRIVING! VERY DANGEROUS. DEALERSHIP REPAIRED ONE FAILED STEEL BRAKE LINE, BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE ALL RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH AND APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT BUSY INTERSECTION. BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR, NO BRAKES, DOWN SHIFT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO 2ND GEAR AND USED EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAD TO SWERVE AND CHANGED LANES THREE TIMES TO AVOID ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO WARNING TO THIS FAILURE. ALSO VEHICLE IS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED. PLEASE HELP. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE CONTACT STATED THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD ENGAGE WHILE BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO DISCONNECT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, BUT THE PEDAL DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND REALIZED THAT THE BRAKE LINES UNDERNEATH THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR BROKE AS A RESULT OF CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 62,000....UPDATED 12/03/12 *BF THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES AND ONE CALIPER. UPDATED 01/05/12
I HAD A COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION AT 55 MPH ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE OF MY 2002 SILVERADO K2500 ON 8/13/2011. THE TIRE IS A FIRESTONE STEELTEX LT245/75R16 INFLATED AT 70 PSI WITH 45,000 MILES ON IT. IT FAILED WITH JUST A SMALL VIBRATION WARNING. THE CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. WE RECOVERED THE TREAD IN THE DITCH. IT AND THE TIRE IS AVAILABLE. I REPLACED ALL TIRES WITH GOODYEAR. OUR INSURANCE COMPANY WILL PAY FOR THE BODYWORK DAMAGE. FIRESTONE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS DEFECTIVE, DANGEROUS MANUFACTURING. *TR
2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BLOWING OUT DIESEL FUEL *TGW IT WAS DETERMINED THE INJECTORS WERE BAD AND THE LOW SIDE PRESSURE LINES WERE CAUSING FUEL TO ENTER TO ENTER THE CRANKCASE. *JB
WAS DRIVING ON ROAD WHEN DRIVER PULLED IN FRONT OF ME, I HAD TO A QUICKLY APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL JUST WENT SOFT AND MUSHED DOWN. NO BRAKING ABILITY WAS POSSIBLE. HAD TO SWERVE INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC TO AVOID MAJOR COLLISION. OTHER CARS SWERVED OUT OF MY WAY. ~300 YARD DOWN THE ROAD THE TRUCK FINALLY CAME TO ROLLING STOP USING LOWER GEAR AUTO TRANSMISSION TO SLOW TRUCK DOWN. AFTER STOPPING SAW BRAKE FLUID POUR OUT OF FRONT ENGINE COMPARTMENT. UPON RETURN HOME SAW NO SIGN OF LEAKS IN DRIVEWAY. ALSO THERE WAS NOT VISIBLE LOSS OF BRAKE FLUIDS LEVEL NOR SOFTENING OF BRAKE PEDAL PRIOR TO THIS SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS BAKES. FLUIDS ARE CHECKED ATLEAST MONTHLY. SO BRAKE LINE OR LINES RUPTURED SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE POTENTIAL FOR DISASTER IS HUGE. THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO HAVE TO THINNED OUT FROM EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND THEN BURST (NOT LEAK) WHEN HEAVY BRAKE PRESSURE IS APPLIED WHICH IS THE WORST TIME FOR BRAKES TO FAIL. THIS IS PERSONAL USE VEHICLE NOT USED FOR COMMERCIAL WORK. HOWEVER IT IS DRIVEN AND USED IN THE SNOW BELT IN THE WINTER. IF YOU OWN ONE OF THESE TRUCKS AND LIVE IN THE SNOW BELT COMPLETELY INSPECT REPLACE YOUR LINES BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. FAILURE POINT WAS IN FRONT AREA UNDER HOOD NEAR LEFT WHEEL RIGHT ON BRACKET WHERE 4 LINES BEND. THESE ARE LARGE VEHICLES AND THE FAILURE GAVE NO OBVIOUS WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO FAILURE. *TR
I WAS MOVING MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD FROM ITS NORMAL PARKING SPOT TO HOOK UP TO OUT TOWABLE RV. WHILE ALIGNING TO THE RV SUDDENLY THE BRAKE PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR. I NOTICED 2 MORE BRAKE LINES HAVE RUPTURED. YES 2 MORE, I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED 2 BRAKE LINES. AS OF AUGUST 14 2011 I HAVE WRITTEN AN EMAIL TO CHEVROLET AS MY VEHICLE SITS IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH RUPTURED, RUSTED BRAKE LINES. I DO NOT EVEN WANT TO IMAGINE THE CONSEQUENCES OF A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE WHILE EMPTY OR TOWING OUR RV AT NORMAL DRIVING SPEEDS. I TRULY FEEL MY FAMILY'S LIFE IS AT RISK IN THIS VEHICLE. FURTHERMORE I CAN SPECULATE THAT THE RESALE VALUE HAS BEEN EFFECTED. MORALLY I COULD NOT SELL THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THERE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE LOOMING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THEY STATED THE BRAKES LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CALIBERS, HUBS AND THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 42,600.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE WHEELS SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000.
2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. STOPPING FROM SLOW SPEED AT INTERSECTION ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGED, TRUCK SHUDDERED, WOULD NOT STOP, HIT VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF. HAVE EXPERIENCED BRAKE ISSUES WITH VEHICLE SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE. WAS TAKEN IN FOR RECALL, BUT DANGEROUS BRAKE PROBLEMS PERSIST. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
VEHICLE EXHIBITED HARD STARTING FOR A FEW DAYS, AND THEN WAS FOUND WITH A LARGE PUDDLE OF FUEL UNDER IT IN THE MORNING, AND WAS CONTINUING TO LEAK. UPON INSPECTION, ALL STEEL FUEL LINES, AT EVERY POINT OF CONNECTION, AND AT EVERY BRACE, HAVE THICK, SCALY, FLAKING RUST. THE CORROSION IS SEVERE. IN MOST LOCATIONS, NEARING THE POINT OF FAILURE, AND IN AT LEAST ONE SPOT, RESULTED IN A PIN HOLE LEAK, WITH A SIGNIFICANT QUANTITY OF FUEL LEAKING ONTO THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. THE STEEL BRAKE LINES WERE ALSO FOUND TO HAVE A SIMILAR DEGREE OF CORROSION, AND WILL PROBABLY FAIL IN THE NEAR TERM. *TR
METAL BRAKE LINE CORRODED THROUGH AND I LOST BRAKE PRESSURE. AN ACCIDENT DID NOT OCCUR, MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE TRUCK BEING UNLOADED. THE WEEK BEFORE THE INCIDENT, I WAS HAULING LARGE LOADS OF HAY. *TR
LATE ON JULY 30, I HAD A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE / TOLL ROAD ON THE WAY BACK FROM THE AIRPORT. I HAD CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 75MPH. WITH NO WARNING, MY REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP. MY TRUCK SKIDDED INTO A BRIDGE. STATE FARM RECOMMENDED MY VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO PURIFOY CHEVROLET FOR REPAIRS. WHEN I WAS NOTIFIED BY PURIFOY AND STATE FARM THAT MY VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, I ASKED THE PURIFOY SHOP MANAGER, MY STATE FARM AGENT, AND MY STATE FARM CLAIMS REPRESENTATIVE IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN INSPECTED FOR THE CAUSE OF THE LOCKED-AXLE CONDITION WHICH CAUSED THE CRASH AND INJURED ME. ALL STATED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN INSPECTED, REPAIRED, AND CERTIFIED SAFE TO DRIVE. I PAID MY DEDUCTIBLE AND DROVE HOME THE VEHICLE AND PARKED IT IN MY GARAGE. WITHIN DAYS, I USED THE VEHICLE AND THE AXLE LOCKED UP AGAIN - BADLY WORSENING MY PHYSICAL INJURIES FROM THE FIRST CRASH AND CAUSING ME TO BE PUT INTO SEVERAL MORE WEEKS OF PHYSICAL THERAPY. I AM STILL UNDER A DOCTOR'S CARE. AND, I AM STILL IN PHYSICAL THERAPY RECOVERING FROM THE INJURIES. MY PHYSICAL THERAPIST HAS NOTED INTO MY MEDICAL RECORDS THAT THE SECOND OCCURRENCE GREATLY PROLONGED MY HEALING BY ADDING ADDITIONAL INJURY TO THAT WHICH PREVIOUSLY OCCURRED FROM THE FIRST CRASH. AFTER THIS SECOND OCCURRENCE, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A LOCAL SHOP. THE SHOP MANGER LOCALLY STATED THIS WAS A WELL-KNOWN CONDITION OF CHEVROLET TRUCKS: THE REAR AXLE VENT TUBE WAS MANUFACTURED TOO SMALL; THE TUBE PLUGS; THIS FORCES AXLE GREASE INTO THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HUB; THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BECOMES SATURATED AND SWELLS TO CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE HUB; WHEN THE BRAKE HEATS UP, IT AUTOMATICALLY APPLIES AND CANNOT BE RELEASED UNTIL THE WHEEL ROLLS SLIGHTLY BACKWARD. THE LOCAL SHOP MANAGER REPLACED BOTH AXLE SEALS, CLEANED AND RESIZED THE VENT, AND INSTALLED NEW EMERGENCY BRAKES. THIS CORRECTED THE LOCKED WHEEL/AXLE CONDITION. *TR
BRAKE LINE ERUPTED LEAVING ME IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION WITH NO WARNING AND PUTTING ME AT RISK. I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES ENTERING A CONTROLLED INTERSECTION AND MY BRAKE PEDAL FELT DIFFERENT AS IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BARELY STOPPED MY 2002 2500HD CHEVROLET SILVERALDO CREW CAB TRUCK. PUMPING THE BRAKES HAD NO POSITIVE EFFECT ON STOPPING MY VEHICLE. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT DID NOT DISPLAY AFTER BRAKE LINE FAILURE. NO BRAKES AND NO BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR. THERE IS PROPERTY DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK AND MY HOUSE DUE TO THIS BRAKE LINE FAILURE.
I WAS DRIVING HOME AND AS I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AS I BRAKED. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND IT WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AROUND THE DRIVER SIDE FRAME RAIL OVER THE GAS TANK. THE BRAKE LINE SEEMS TO HAVE RUSTED THROUGH AND BURST UNDER LIGHT BRAKING PRESSURE.
THE VEHICLES BRAKES FAILED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN (I WAS LUCKY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND THE MECHANIC REPORTED CATASTROPIC FAILURE OF THE BRAKE LINES (RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF FLUID). *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 10 MPH OR LESS, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES: HYDRAULIC: ANTI-LOCK). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
ABS ACTUATES AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. WHEELS ARE NOT LOCKED OR SKIDDING WHEN ABS ACTUATES. THIS ISSUE IS RECURRING AND HAS CAUSED THE TRUCK TO HAVE EXCESSIVE STOPPING DISTANCES WHILE THE ABS IS ENGAGED. MULTIPLE TIMES WE HAVE ALMOST HIS SOMETHING BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING AT APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH , HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES WERE USED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I AM NOT SURE OF THE EXACT DATE OF THE FIRST INCIDENT. CAN REPORT IF NECESSARY. ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 2012, AFTER A STOP AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY, I PROCEEDED ACROSS THE STREET AND STOPPED AGAIN AT MY PARENTS DRIVEWAY TO PICK UP THEIR MAIL. UPON CLIMBING THE HILL OF THEIR DRIVEWAY, I ATTEMPTED TO STOP IN FRONT OF THEIR GARAGE WHEN MY BRAKE LINES RUPTURED AND I LOST ALL BRAKING POWER. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK BEFORE HITTING THE GARAGE DOOR. I HAD MY MECHANIC TOW THE TRUCK TO HIS SHOP AND HE SAID IT WOULD COST A "COUPLE THOUSAND DOLLARS" BECAUSE HE NEEDS TO LIFT THE CAB OFF THE FRAME TO REPLACE THE LINES. LAST YEAR, I HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE CALIPER, ROTORS, PADS, PARKING BRAKE PADS AND BACKING PLATE AND ALL OF THE REAR BRAKE LINES WHICH WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. I HAVE LESS THAN 33000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE WHICH I BOUGHT NEW. THE TOTAL COST OF THOSE REPAIRS WAS 2800. ADD THE 2000 OR SO FOR THIS REPAIR AND IT COMES TO ALMOST 5000. I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE SOME RELIEF FROM GM DUE TO THE UNUSUAL WEAR AND CORROSION AND THE LOW MILEAGE. PLEASE ADVISE ME OF ANY NECESSARY STEPS TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. *TR

I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I REALIZED THAT I HAD NO BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE LIGHT AND INTO A PARKING LOT. AFTER A QUICK INSPECTION I FOUND THAT THE STEEL BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE REAR BRAKES RUSTED THROUGH, AND WAS SPEWING BRAKE FLUID. THIS TRUCK IS A 2002 MODEL WITH ONLY 88K MILES AND IS WELL MAINTAINED. I DON'T THINK THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD RUST THROUGH AND FAIL THIS SOON. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM. I WAS LUCKY. I WAS DRIVING SLOW, WAS NOT ON A BUSY STREET AND DIDN'T HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE TRANSFER CASE THAT RESULTS IN A CLIP BREAKING LOOSE AND RUBBING A HOLE IN THE REAR HOUSING, ALLOWING THE LUBRICANT TO LEAK OUT, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE TRANSFER CASE TO FAIL AND POSSIBLY LOCKING UP THE WHEELS IN AN UNEXPECTED MANNER, CAUSING A CRASH.

THE PRIVATE MECHANIC REMOVED AND REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES, UNIONS, AND BRAKE FLUID. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. SOMETIMES WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEED 5 -10 MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT THE ABS WILL START TO CYCLE MAKING THE STOPPING DISTANCE EXTREMELY LONG. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I ATTEMPTED TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. NO PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID FORMING UNDER THE VEHICLE BELOW THE DRIVER'S DOOR. CALLED AAA AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP. MECHANIC POINTED OUT THAT ALL BRAKE LINES FORWARD OF THE ABS PUMP WERE RUSTED OUT RESULTING IN THE FAILURE OF ONE OF THE LINES. HE ALSO POINTED OUT THAT THE FRONT CALIPERS WERE RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE BLEED PORTS WERE UNSERVICEABLE, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE CALIPERS AS WELL AS THE BRAKE LINES. FROM MY RESEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A CASE OF INFERIOR MATERIALS USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 6 MILLION AFFECTED VEHICLES. LUCKILY I WASN'T AT SPEED WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURRED. THESE VEHICLES NEED TO RECALLED, INSPECTED, AND REPAIRED AT GM'S EXPENSE BEFORE THERE ARE ANY FURTHER INJURIES.

I MANAGED TO GET SLOW ENOUGH TO MAKE TURN SAFELY. I PRETTY MUCH TRAVELED 5-10 MPH ANOTHER 50YDS TO GET INTO LOWES PARKING LOT. I TRIED TO BRAKE AGAIN, NO BRAKES. I PUT TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO STOP. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK SMELLED BRAKE FLUID. BRAKE FLUID WAS EVERYWHERE AROUND MY DRIVER REAR WHEEL. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO GET MY TRUCK HOME THINKING MY CALIPER OR HOSE FAILED. AFTER TAKING OFF MY WHEEL, I FOUND THAT THE STEEL BRAKE LINE WAS RUPTURED. CALLED A MECHANIC TO SEE IF HE COULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT, HE SAID HE COULD MAYBE LATE FRIDAY, HE JUST DID A 2004 SILVERADO WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AGAIN TO GET TRUCK TO HIS GARAGE. HE CALLS ME LATE FRIDAY EVENING AND SAID ALL THE BRAKES LINES HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF HEAVY CORROSION AND MAYBE THE CALIPERS DEPENDING IF THEY FAIL. HE QUOTED ME A PRICE AT $900. MY CO-WORKER HAD HIS BRAKE LINES REPLACED NOT TO LONG AGO AND HIS IS A NEWER MODEL. *TR
MAIN BRAKE LINE FOR REAR AXLE FAILED. CAUSING DIMINISHED BRAKING ABILITY AND PARTIAL LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL ENTERING CORNER. CAUSING MY TRUCK TO ENTER ON COMING TRAFFIC LANE UNTIL CONTROL WAS REGAINED. EXAMINATION REVEALED REAR BRAKE LINE FAILED ALONG FRAME RAIL ABOVE GAS TANK. BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO BE VERY CORRODED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD I MUST REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES AS THEY ARE ALL CORRODED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND CAME TO A RIGHT HAND TURN AND WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR SO I MISSED MY TURN. HAD THERE BEEN A CAR IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM FOR SURE . SO I HAD TO TAKE A HIGH SPEED TURN AND RAN OFF THE ROAD TO MAKE THE TURN SO I HAD NO BRAKES AT AL. I HAD NO BRAKES ON THE FRONT AND ONE REAR E-BRAKE BACKING PLATE ROTTED OFF MY TRUCK BACK IN 2007. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED GM TRUCKS AND THIS ONE IS A BIG LET DOWN AND IT ALL MOST KILLED ME. IF I HAD TO GUESS THE DATE WAS SOMETIME IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR.
THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT. FIRST THERE IS A CORRECTION WITH THE DATE OF INCIDENT. THE CORRECT DATE SHOULD READ 06/01/2011 NOT 2010. AFTER TALKING FURTHER WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NEVER GETTING A REASSURANCE THAT THEY ARE CONSIDERING HELPING COVER THE COST OF REPAIR, I HAVE SINCE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION REPAIR SPECIALIST THAT REPAIRS VEHICLES FOR THE MUNICIPALITY I WORK FOR. THEY GAVE THE SAME DIAGNOSIS WITH THE SAME MALFUNCTION CODE. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT HAS BEEN ISSUED ON THIS CODE BY GM, WHICH THE DEALER AND THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. NEGLECTED TO DIVULGE. I HAVE READ THE BULLETIN AND IT CLEARLY STATES THAT TRANSMISSIONS SHOWING THIS CODE AND FALLING WITHIN A SPECIFIED BUILD DATE WHICH IS STATED ON THE BULLETIN ARE TO BE REPLACED AND THAT NO FURTHER DIAGNOSIS BE PERFORMED. THAT BEING SAID, GM STATED THAT BY TAKING THE TRUCK TO A NON GM CERTIFIED TRANSMISSION REPAIR SPECIALIST THEY ARE NO LONGER WILLING TO HELP ME. I DID HAVE THE REPAIR SHOP TEAR THE TRANSMISSION DOWN TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS THE PLASTIC PISTONS IN THE ACCUMULATOR HOUSING THAT FAILED CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO OVER HEAT WHICH IN TURN DAMAGED OTHER COMPONENTS WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. I TALKED TO GM THIS MORNING TRYING ONCE AGAIN TO GET SOME RESOLVE AND WAS TOLD BY THE SAME PERSON THAT I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH FROM THE GET GO THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HELP ME BUT NOW CAN'T. THIS IS THE SAME PERSON THAT SAID "GM COULD NOT GUARANTEE ANY HELP", IN EVERY CONVERSATION WE HAD TIL TODAY. IN CONCLUSION, THE DEALER WAS THE FIRST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMEND A SOLUTION OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION WITHOUT ANY FURTHER BREAKDOWN OF THE TRANSMISSION (THEY ALREADY KNEW OF A PROB. EXCESSIVE BRAKE LINE RUST AND FAILURE WITH LOSS OF SERVICE BRAKES ON GM LIGHT TRUCKS. I RECENTLY HAD AN EXPERIENCE WHERE THE METAL BRAKE LINES BROKE UNEXPECTEDLY ON MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD LIGHT TRUCK. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A NEIGHBORHOOD STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE STOPPED FROM APPROXIMATELY 10MPH USING THE PARKING BRAKE AND DOWNSHIFTING. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. A LOCAL SERVICE STATION FOUND THAT MOST ALL OF THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LINES WERE EXCESSIVELY RUSTED. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF $650. *TR
WAS DRIVING TO THE STORE IN MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO AND OUT OF NOWHERE THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND SAW BRAKE FLUID POURING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH DRIVER SIDE OF VEHICLE.AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK TO SEE WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM FOUND ALL BRAKE LINES IN THAT AREA EXTREMELY RUSTED AND DETERIORATED .CHECKED THE RESERVOIR FOR THE BRAKE FLUID AND IT WAS ALMOST EMPTY . THIS COULD OF BEEN A SITUATION WHERE A SEVERE ACCIDENT COULD OF OCCURRED. THIS HAPPENED ON 5/21/11 HAVE YET TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS. JUST TO MENTION MY DAUGHTERS AGE 10 AND 14 ARE IN THIS VEHICLE OFTEN WITH ME AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN BRAKE LINES ON A VEHICLE THIS BAD CONSIDERING THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 10 YRS OLD. *TR
THE HEADS ON THE BOLTS ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAVE SHEARED. THERE IS AN EXHAUST LEAK WHICH CAUSES MY TRUCK TO FAIL INSPECTION. *TR
ON SUNDAY MAY THE 15TH THE WALMART TLE ON BUSH RIVER RD IN COLUMBIA SC INSTALLED TWO FRONT TIRES ON A 2002 CHEVY 3500 VAN. THEY INSTALLED TWO P RATED TIRES EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE CALLS FOR LT. THEY ALL SO PUT 55PSI IN THE TIRES WHEN THE TIRES ARE ONLY RATED FOR 44PSI. THE TIRES ARE NOT RATED FOR THIS. ALSO THERE WAS NO DOT CARD GIVEN OUT. *TR
