I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET 2500 HD WITH THE 8.1 (8100 VORTEC) ENGINE. I HAD BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE STALLING WHILE DRIVING PERIODICALLY. IT BECAME A FREQUENT PROBLEM. I HAD THE VEHICLE SCANNED AT A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE WITH NO FAULT CODES SHOWING. I LEARNED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS AT FAULT BY DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH. I ALSO LEARNED THE SAME ENGINE HAD A RECALL IN 2001 AND NOT 2002 THE FACT THE VEHICLE STALLS DURING OPERATION IS A SERIOUS HAZARD . CHEVROLET NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES . I CHANGED MY OWN , BUT CHEVROLET NEEDS TO FIX THIS FAST BEFORE SOMEONE DIES IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY ! *TR
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD NEARLY CAUGHT FIRE YESTERDAY. A LEAK DEVELOPED IN THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER/HYDRO-BOOST SYSTEM AND POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING ONTO MY HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD. SMOKE WAS POURING FROM UNDER MY HOOD. I SUSPECT A SMALL FIRE BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF SMOKE. BY THE TIME I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND OPENED THE HOOD ALL I SAW WAS SMOKE FROM SOMETHING LEAKING ON THE MANIFOLD. I GOT ONLINE AND FOUND THIS RECALL INFORMATION FOR 2004-2005 CHEVY TRUCKS BUT NOT 2002. I WANTED TO INFORM YOU THAT THERE MAY BE A NEED TO RECALL 2002 SILVERADO TRUCKS AS WELL. REASON FOR THIS RECALL: GENERAL MOTORS HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT, WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY, EXISTS IN CERTAIN 2004 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET KODIAK AND CERTAIN 2004 AND 2005 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET AVALANCHE, EXPRESS, SILVERADO, AND SUBURBAN VEHICLES. ON SOME OF THESE VEHICLES, THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER'S PRESSURE ACCUMULATOR MAY CRACK AND/OR SEPARATE FROM THE HYDRO-BOOST ASSEMBLY DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATING CONDITIONS. IF A SEPARATION WERE TO OCCUR AND THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE WERE OPEN, FRAGMENTS FROM THE ACCUMULATOR COULD CAUSE INJURY TO PEOPLE IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA. IN ADDITION, THE PRESENCE OF THIS CRACK OR FRACTURED SURFACE COULD ALLOW THE HYDRAULIC FLUID TO LEAK FROM THE ACCUMULATOR CIRCUIT OF THE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. THE LOSS OF FLUID WOULD CAUSE INCREASED STEERING AND BRAKING EFFORT. WHAT WILL BE DONE: YOUR CHEVROLET DEALER WILL INSPECT THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER, AND REPLACE IT IF NECESSARY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD LT EXT. CAB LB7 DURAMAX 5 SPEED ALLISON TRANSMISSION, IT HAS 114000 MILES ON IT. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN SERVICED AS DIRECTED SINCE NEW. THE TRUCK STARTED USING LOTS OF FUEL, AT AN IDLE IT SERGED BETWEEN 700 & 900 RPM'S, AND OIL STARTED BLOWING OUT THE BLOWBY TUBE. I HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THAT 3 FUEL INJECTORS ARE LEAKING FUEL, WITH A POSSIBLE HEAD GASKET LEAK,FILLING MY CRANKCASE WITH DIESEL, CAUSING OIL TO BLOW OUT ALL OVER THE TRUCK, ROAD AND WHATEVER ELSE IT CAN LAND ON. WHILE INVESTIGATING WHAT TO DO, TO FIX THE TRUCK I'VE FOUND 3 OTHER PEOPLE I KNOW THAT HAVE DURAMAX'S, AND THEY ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEMS. IT'S GOING TO TAKE ME A YEAR TO SAVE THE MONEY I NEED TO FIX THIS TRUCK. I'M EVEN GOING TO DO THE WORK MYSELF. IN MY OPINION GM SHOULD BE ASHAMED. THEY SHOULD AT LEASED PAY FOR THE PARTS. THE CHEAPEST INJECTORS I'VE FOUND ARE $225.00 APIECE WITH A $125.00 CORE CHARGE. IT'S RECOMENDED THAT ALL 8 INJECTORS BE REPLACED AT ONCE. I'VE ALSO BEEN TOLD THESE ENGINES HAVE DEFECTIVE HEAD GASKETS. THAT WILL COST ANOTHER $600.00 FOR PARTS, AND $110.00 FOR SPECIAL TOOLS I NEED TO DO THE JOB. WHEN I FORKED OVER THE $40,000 CASH INHERITINCE MONEY TO BUY THIS TRUCK, I DIDN'T SIGNUP FOR THIS. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, BRAKES WENT OUT, BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTY, AND BURST ON ONE OF THE LINES, I SEE NHTSA PROBES 1999-2003 GM TRUCKS FOR POSSIBLE RUSTED BRAKE LINES BACK IN MARCH OF 2010 WHAT BECAME OF IT? THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, THIS VEHICLE IS USED TO TOW AND HAD THAT BEEN THE CASE WHEN THE BRAKES WENT OUT SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT AND OR KILLED. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY RUSTY BRAKE LINE I HAVE SEEN I ALSO HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET IMPALA THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK SHE HAD TO STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS, WHEN SHE WENT TO STOP WAS UNABLE THANK GOD THE CHILDREN DID NOT HAVE TO CROSS THE ROAD WAY TO LOAD ON THE BUS. WE WERE ALSO LUCKY THE LINES BURST ON THE SILVERADO IN THE DRIVEWAY, AND IT WAS VERY LUCKY IT DID NOT HAPPEN THE WEEK PRIOR, I WAS TOWING WITH IT. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AND IT NEEDS TO BEEN DONE RIGHT AWAY BEFORE SOME ONE GETS KILLED. HUSBAND PERFORMED OIL CHANGE ON TRUCK. TRUCK IS DRIVEN INFREQUENTLY, ONLY USED FOR TOWING MY HORSE TRAILER, SO OIL IS ONLY CHANGED ABOUT ONCE A YEAR, AND TRUCK IS GARAGE KEPT. WHEN UNDERNEATH TRUCK, HUSBAND NOTICED THAT ALL BRAKE LINES FEEDING INTO THE ABS UNIT ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AND COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME. BASED ON CONDITION OF BRAKE LINES, HUSBAND (A MECHANIC) FEELS ABS UNIT IS PROBABLY FULL OF RUST AS WELL. ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM MAY BE COMPROMISED AND FULL OF RUST. TRUCK WILL NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL BRAKE LINES ARE REPLACED, AND POTENTIALLY ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM IS OVERHAULED. CALLED DEALERSHIP, THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY. WE HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET DIRECTLY AND ARE AWAITING A RETURN PHONE CALL. MY HUSBAND HAS 30 AND 40 YEAR OLD CARS AT HOME THAT HAVE CLEANER ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES THAN OUR 10 YEAR OLD TRUCK DOES.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL UNEXPECTEDLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR UPON ENGAGEMENT AND WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED IN MOTION UNTIL THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETECTED THAT THE BRAKE LINE EXHIBITED SEVERE RUST CORROSION. NHTSA CURRENTLY HAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION RELATED TO THE FAILURE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTION NUMBER EA11001 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING -COPY OF A LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT RE THE DANGERS OF RUPTURING BRAKE LINES ON A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE NEEDED FRONT BRAKE PADS, ROTORS WHICH WERE MORE RUSTED OUT THAN WORN AND ONE CALIPER. AS THE CONSUMER WAS BLEEDING THE AIR FROM THE HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT, HE NOTICED BRAKE FLUID POURING OUT OF THREE LOCATIONS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE STEEL BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED ON BOTH HYDRAULIC CIRCUITS DUE TO THE STEEL LINES RUSTING OUT. THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL OF THE STEEL LINES, AS SOME OF THE RUST WAS HIDDEN FROM VIEW WITHIN PLASTIC RETAINERS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHUTTING OFF, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD START BACK UP WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND HAD THE FUEL SYSTEM CHECKED, BUT NONE OF THE REPAIRS CORRECTED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT FOUND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 01V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), DEALING WITH THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FOR THE 2001 MODEL YEAR AND INDICATED THAT THE 2002 MODEL YEAR HAD THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000. UPDATED 5/24/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AT HIS EXPENSE. UPDATED 06/06/11
COMPLETE BRAKE LINE FAILURE AS A RESULT OF LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID DUE TO EXTENSIVE BRAKE LINE CORROSION. BRAKES FAILED DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON I-78 IN NORTHERN NJ. SYMPTOMS INCLUDED BRAKE PEDAL GOING "TO THE FLOOR", AS WELL AS GREATLY REDUCED BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS. THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE OF THIS TYPE ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST OCCURRED ON 1/24/2007, AND IS COVERED UNDER NHTSA REPORT ODI #10180807. THIS NEW FAILURE WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER, KONNER CHEVROLET, IN WEST CALDWELL, NJ. *TR
CHEVY EXTENDED CAB, 1500 SILVERADO: WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, TRUCK LOST COMPLETE POWER, I.E. ENGINE QUIT, PWR STEERING LOSS, NO RADIO, GAUGES LOSS PWR. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER IN TRAFFIC. TRUCK RESTARTED, SPUTTERED, POWER LOSS, ENGINE BACK ON LINE (INTERMITTENTLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE). VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION FOR SEVERAL DAYS. 2002 2500HD CHEVY SILVERADO STALLING FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS RANDOMLY. TAKEN TO HAVE FIXED CANNOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM WITH COMPUTER SCAN. TRUCK STALLING ON THE HIGHWAY MANY TIMES. ONCE TRUCK STALLS, TURN OFF KEY, LET SET FOR 10 -15 SECONDS, RESTART. I GUESS THE SYSTEM RESETS ITSELF. THIS IS NOT SAFE. *TR

HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE GOING TO REAR OF TRUCK FAILED DUE TO HEAVY EXTERIOR CORROSION. TRUCK IS A 3/4 TON CREW CAB WITH AN EIGHT FOOT BED. THE POINT OF FAILURE WAS NEAR WHERE LINE CROSSES TO TOP OF FRAME NEAR A LOOMED WIRE HARNESS APPROXIMATELY UNDER REAR DOOR OF CAB. ALL BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK ARE HEAVILY CORRODED. *TR

TRUCK IS USED FOR PERSONAL USE AND NOT COMMERCIAL. IT DOES NOT PLOW SNOW AND WE LIVE IN ZIP CODE 20197. THE INCIDENT LUCKILY HAPPENED IN THE DRIVE WAY AND THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE YET THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE LOCAL DEALER, INSTEAD HE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WAS A PREVIOUS RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI LOCK) IN WHICH REPAIRS WERE ALREADY PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ANY ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 138,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
BRAKE LIGHT WITH (!) (P) RED CAME ON DASHBOARD WITH IN 10 MIN NO BRAKES BRAKE LINE BROKE. *TR

WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH ON DRY ROAD SURFACES, THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. SUDDENLY, THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A CEMENT BARRIER. THE CONTACT RESUMED DRIVING WITHOUT EXPERIENCING THE ABS FAILURE. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE FRONT BUMPER SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD, DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL WOBBLE, BRAKE FAILURE, AND NOISE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY AND BEARINGS WERE WORN. DEALER STATES FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH CHEVY SILVERADOS, NO DEALER RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERIOR DASHBOARD LIGHT FAILED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO READ THE SPEEDOMETER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER REGARDING THE DASHBOARD LIGHT FAILURE AND THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE MODULE THAT CONTROLLED THE LIGHTING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE MODULE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
FAILING FUEL INJECTORS CAUSING SMOKE OUT OF EXHAUST ON A DURAMAX DIESEL TRUCK. GM KNEW OF DEFECT WITH INJECTORS AND ONLY ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 7 YEARS/200,000 MILES WHICH EVER OCCURRED FIRST. IT WAS ONLY GOOD IF YOU HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE INJECTORS AT THE TIME OF WARRANTY. I JUST FOUND THIS OUT FROM A DEALER AND OTHER OWNERS OF SAME TYPE VEHICLE. IF GM KNOWINGLY KNEW OF THESE ISSUES WHY DID THEY NOT DO A RECALL ON SAID VEHICLES? IT'S REALLY A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE AND MORAL ETHICS TO DO THE RIGHT THING, RATHER THAN HAVE THE CONSUMER TAKE THE FALL FOR THEIR LACK OF PRODUCT DESIGN! *TR
WHEN I TURN OR HIT A BUMP IT MAKES A CLUNK, AND YOU CAN HEAR IT AND FEEL IT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL, NOW HAVE 119000 MILES ON IT. I AM CONSURNED IT MY BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
ANOTHER DRIVER PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES A BRAKE LINE BURST AND I LOST MY BRAKES AND ALMOST RAN INTO THE OTHER DRIVER WHO PULLED IN FRONT OF ME. I WENT INTO THE DITCH TO AVOID HITTING THE OTHER DRIVER. I TOOK ME TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND THAT'S WHY THEY FAILED. THEY ALL NEED REPLACED SO THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ON 2002 CHEVROLET 2500 HD 6.0 L V8 ARE BROKEN AT THE BACK BOLT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE PASSANGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS CRACKED BETWEEN THE 3RD AND 4TH BOLT FROM THE FRONT. I REPLACED THE BOLTS ON THE DRIVER SIDE, EXCEPT FOR THE BACK ONE THAT IS SHEARED OFF FLUSH WITH THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS PARTICULAR BOLT OUT IS TO REMOVE THE CYLINDER HEAD FROM THE ENGINE SO THAT A MACHINE SHOP CAN DRILL OUT THE OFFENDING BOLT. THE REPLACEMENT BOLTS THAT I PURCHASED FROM THE GM DEALER WERE A MUCH STURDIER BOLT THAT HAD A MUCH LARGER HEAD ON THE BOLT. TO ME THIS INDICATES KNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THAT GM IS AWARE OF IT. THIS WILL MOST CERTAINLY LEAD TO AN EXHAUST LEAK THAT WILL CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. A VEHICLE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON CANNOT PASS A FIELD EMISSIONS TEST AND WILL RESULT IN A REVOCATION OF THE VEHICLES REGISTRATION UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS CORRECTED. THIS IS NOW A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. GM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE POSSIBLE EPA VIOLATIONS THAT THIS WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE IS NOW CAUSING. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT, VERY LOW FOR A 2002.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE REAR BRAKELINE SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP BY SWITCHING GEARS AND PUTTING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS CORROSION ON THE REAR BRAKELINE WHICH CAUSED IT TO FRACTURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 SILVERADO 2500HD WHEN THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME SPUN ON SNOW AND ENDED UP 90DEGREES ACROSS THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME . I BRAKED BUT THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD TO DRIVE UP ONTO THE SHOULDER AND MISSED CRASHING INTO THE CAR BY A FOOT OR TWO . I BROUGHT THE SILVERADO IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER . THEY TOLD ME MY BRAKELINE HAD RUSTED OUT AND NOW WANT $2500 TO REPAIR . THEY SAY THE OTHER LINES ARE ALSO BAD AND NEED REPLACEMENT . THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE DEALERS WHILE THEY ORDER PARTS . *LN

WE HAVE A 2500 HD ALSO WITH FAILED INJECTORS. WE WERE NOT INJURED NOR KILLED. HOWEVER, OIL AND DIESEL BLEW OUT ON ROADWAY AND ON THE ENGINE OF TRUCK. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME OR NOT. HOW MANY ACCIDENTS COULD HAVE HAPPENED AND NO ONE REALIZED IT WAS FROM THE OIL OF OUR TRUCK. FURTHER MORE CHEVY KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM. SO HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO GET HURT OR DIE BEFORE THEY TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. OF EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED TO ONLY ONE PERSON WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY MADE IT BY 14 DAYS. CHEVY HAS A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO FIX IT, AND NOT WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WITH NO IMMEDIATE RESPONSE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO A LOWER GEAR AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC EACH TIME. THE BRAKE HOSE AND BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY, APPLIED BRAKES TO FEEL THE PEDAL GO TO FLOOR. ABLE TO STOP AND INSPECT AFTER SOME DISTANCE. REAR STEEL BRAKE LINE UNDER TRUCK BED HAD CORRODED THROUGH, AND WITH A PUSH OF THE PEDAL, BRAKE FLUID SPRAYED EVERYWHERE. HAD TO HAVE LINE REPLACED FROM DIVERTER BOX UNDER CAB TO REAR CROSSOVER AT DRIVER REAR WHEEL, BADLY CORRODED! 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500, 4 WHEEL DRIVE Z71 OFF ROAD, 58420 MILES, WAS STOPPED WITH FOOT DEPRESSED ON BRAKE PEDAL, FELT PEDAL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. HAD TO ACCELERATE AND HAD NO BRAKES. BRAKE LINE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPLACED BUT AT A STAND STILL AT THE MOMENT DUE TO A LEAK AT THE EHCU CONNECTION DUE TO PITTING, THERE ISN'T A TIGHT CONNECTION. STILL IN THE PROCESS OF REPAIRS. THE OTHER DAY I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE TRUCK. I KNEW IT WASN'T THE BRAKE PADS SINCE I HAD CHANGED THEM A FEW MONTHS AGO. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE WHEEL BEARINGS. THESE ARE A SEALED SYSTEM AND NOT ABLE TO SERVICE THEM ON EITHER SIDE. THE SYSTEM HAS TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED THE PARTS STORE ABOUT THESE ,AND HE SAID COMMON PROBLEM AND IF NOT FIXED , THE ROTOR AND BEARING ASSEMBLY COULD SNAP OFF AND CREATE AND ACCIDENT. I HAD A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
