DT: THE CONTACT HEARD A STRANGE NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHILE TURNING CORNERS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AND THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE INSPECTED. BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE READY TO FALL OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED. UPDATED 1/19/2006 - *NM
ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATES AT SLOW SPEEDS ON DRY PAVEMENT, NOT ALLOWING TRUCK TO STOP WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS UNDER 5 MPH AND HAS CAUSED ME TO ROLL THROUGH A STOP SIGN. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS AND REAR PADS WERE RUSTED AND GROOVED. THE FRONT BRAKES AND PADS WERE ALSO RUSTED AND GROOVED, BUT NOT AS MUCH AS THE REAR. THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED ON 11-16-05. UPDATED 05/02/06. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WARPED AND CAUSED THE STUDS TO SNAP OFF. THIS COULD CAUSE THE EXHAUST TO LEAK ON A COLD START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT'S SON-IN-LAW DISCOVERED THIS PROBLEM AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS VEHICLE. HE STATED THE ORIGINAL STUDS WERE TOO SMALL, AND THE NEW STUDS WERE BIGGER.*AK LEFT AND RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE AND WERE REPLACED. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR THE ABS SENSORS HE HAD THE WORK PERFORMED, BUT THE ABS PUMP HAS GONE BAD. HE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS, AND THEY STATED THAT BECAUSE MAINTENANCE ON VEHICLE WAS NOT PERFORMED AT A GM DEALERSHIP THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST HIM WITH THE REPAIRS. *AK UPDATED 11/29/2005 - *NM
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL LETTER 05V379000 CONCERNING ABS BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. UPON LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP EXPERIENCED THE SAME ABS BRAKE PROBLEMS AS THOSE PRIOR TO THE REPAIRS. THE DEALERSHIP THEN DROVE THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. GENERAL MOTORS TOLD HIM IF THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THEN THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER SERVICE STATION, AND THEY TOLD HIM THE PROBLEM WAS STILL WITH THE ABS. *AK UPDATED 11/29/2005 - *NM
HAD MY 2002 CHEV SILVERADO IN FOR RECALL SERVICE 05068 ON 10-24-05. DEALER ADVISED THAT RECALL SERVICE PERFORMED BUT VEHICLE REQUIRED NEW FRONT HUB ASSEMBLIES TO CORRECT ABS PROBLEM AT A COST OF OVER $1000 TO ME; THE RECALL STATES IT WILL CORRECT PROBLEMS CAUSED BY CORROSION BETWEEN HUBS AND ABS SENSORS. COST SHOULD NOT BE INCURRED BY ME FOR DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURE. *NM
CONSUMER LETTER REGARDING SAFETY DEFICIENCY ON 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BRAKING SYSTEM. *TS THE BRAKE ROTORS AND CALIPERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. *NM
2002 SILVERADO BRAKES FAILED CAUSING CONSUMER TO HIT A VEHICLE IN DRIVEWAY. *TS *NM***NAR***
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH APPROACHING A TRAFFIC STOP SIGN, PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, SUDDENLY THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD. IN 2005, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER A MANUFACTURER VOLUNTARY RECALL PERTAINING TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE RECURRED IN JANUARY OF 2011 AND WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. MOST RECENTLY, THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED TO RESPOND UPON ENGAGING AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING UPON A RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER IN REGARDS TO THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK HAS STARTED EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS OF LOW-SPEED ABS BRAKE FAILURES. *NM
BOTH REAR BRAKE ROTORS FOR 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. *TS THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 2,525 MILES BETWEEN THE LAST SERVICE YET NO BRAKE PROBLEM WAS NOTICED BY THE TECHNICIAN AT THAT TIME. *NM
I AM WRITING TO INFORM YOU OF A TIRE PROBLEM I HAD THE OTHER DAY WITH ONE OF YOUR FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL A/T LT 245 75 R16 TEN PLY TRUCK TIRE. THE OTHER INFO ON THE TIRE IS 120/116 R M&S. DOT VH11 BAAC 2801, 008009, DA807T. I HAVE ONLY 23,000 MILES ON THESE TIRES. THEY CAME ON THE VEHICLE WHEN I PURCHASED IT NEW. IT WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR OF MY 2002 CHEVY DURAMAX. 2500 HD. HAD 80 PSI AS REQUIRED AND I HAD MY CAMPER ON. RIGHT AT 30 INCHES OF TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE CASING. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE NOTICED THE PROBLEM BEFORE IT CAME ALL THE WAY OFF AND DID ANY DAMAGE AT ALL TO MY VEHICLE. \WE HAVE NO FIRESTONE DEALER AT ALL IN OUR AREA, AND I COULD NOT TAKE THE CHANCE OF THIS PROBLEM EVER HAPPENING AGAIN WITH THESE TIRES. I HAVE REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES WITH THE SAME SIZE AND LOAD RANGE AS REQUIRED WITH ANOTHER BRAND. ATTACHED ARE SOME PICTURES OF THE TIRE. IS FIRESTONE INTERESTED IN MY PROBLEM, AND WHAT DO I NEED TO DO NOW WITH MY BAD TIRE AND THE REMAINING 3 TIRES? THANK-YOU. *JB
WHILE DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY PICKUP TRUCK WENT OUT. BECAUSE OF GROUND FOG, I WAS UNABLE TO USE HIGH BEAMS AND RESORTED TO FOG LIGHTS UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION. THIS PROBLEM THEN OCCURRED PERIODICALLY WHEN I DROVE AT NITE. THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD SHUT OFF. EVENTUALLY I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT WHEN I RAISED AND LOWERED THE TILT WHEEL, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD SHUT OFF AND TURN ON. AT CERTAIN POINTS IN THE TILT WHEEL RANGE OF MOTION, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD SHUTOFF AND STAY OFF UNTIL I RAISED OR LOWERED THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY. I WAS NOT TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED THE FIRST TIME THIS PROBLEM APPEARED BUT I HAD JUST EXITED THE INTERSTATE. I ALSO WAS THANKFULL THAT MY WIFE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVING BECAUSE SHE MAY HAVE REACTED DIFFERENTLY AND A VEHICLE CRASH MAY HAVE BEEN THE RESULT. SINCE THE VEHICLE, A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO LT 1500 4WD, WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A NEIGHBORHOOD AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHERE I HAVE DONE BUSINESS BEFORE. THE MECHANIC EVENTUALLY REMOVED THE "TURN SIGNAL/MULTIFUNCTION LEVER". AT A POINT WHERE THE WIRING HARNESS PLUGS INTO THE SWITCH HE AND I BOTH OBSERVED SEVERAL BURNED WIRES AS WELL AS THE INSULATION THAT APPEARED TO HAVE BEENED BURNED OFF. A NEW MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH WAS ORDERED AND INSTALLED. EVERYTHING SEEMS TO WORKED FINE NOW. FORTUNATELY NO FIRE OCCURRED AND THERE WAS NO CRASH OR INJURY. I HAVE THE OLD PART AND WILL RETAIN IT. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT AND RECEIVED A SERVICE REQUEST CASE FILE NUMBER OF 1-372503129. THE PERSON I SPOKE WITH ADVISED ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN NO RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN CONCERNING THAT PROBLEM.
DT: THE CONTACT STATES HE OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD PICK-UP. WHILE DRIVING HE HEARD A POPPING SOUND FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE STEERING BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL, AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION FROM A SERVICE DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SHAFT IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP BROKE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POPPING SOUND WAS WHEN THE SHAFT BROKE. THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE OLD POWER STEERING PUMP WITH A NEW AND IMPROVED POWER STEERING PUMP. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD PICK-UP, BUT THE RECALL DID NOT EXTEND PAST THE 2000 MODEL YEAR TRUCK.*AK
GM OEM HITCH FAILURE. SQUARE RECEIVER TUBE IS BENDING UP-WARD. WELDS AT ROUND CROSS TUBE JOINTS ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF CRACKING. DEALER STATED IN THEIR INVOICE AFTER CHECKING PROBLEM THAT "TRAILER HITCH IS STARTING TO BEND UPWARD. HITCH BENT, INSPECTED AND FOUND THE REAR WELDS MOVED 1/8 INCH". DEALER TECHNICIAN STATED HE DIDN'T RECOMMEND PULLING ANYTHING HEAVY DO TO THE CONDITION OF THE OEM HITCH. DEALER STATED THE HITCH IS OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD, NEW AND/OR REPLACEMENT HITCH WOULD BE CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY. TRAVEL TRAILER CONNECTED TO GM OEM HITCH FALLS WITHIN ALL MANUFACTURERS VEHICLE AND HITCH SPECIFICATIONS. I REPLACED WITH CLASS V AFTERMARKET HITCH, AND NOTICED UPON REMOVING THE GM OEM HITCH THAT THE TRUCK REAR BUMPER CROSSMEMBER WAS BENT AT THE POINT WHERE THE ORIGINAL OEM HITCH MOUNTED. *NM
TRUCK WILL NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I RAN INTO ANOTHER PERSON COMING TO A STOP. TRUCK WILL JUST KEEP ROLLING A LITTLE EVEN WITH THE BRAKES FULLY DEPRESSED. TALKED TO A COUPLE OF SERVICE STATIONS AND THEY SAID IT WAS MY ABS SENSORS IN THE FRONT HUBS. GM HAS A RECALL BUT NOT IN MY STATE AND THAT IS WHY I AM FILING A COMPLAINT. *JB
STEEL BELTED RADIAL TIRE FIRESTONE STEEL TX RADIAL A/T LT245/75R16 SEPARATED AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 65 MPH. DRIVER MAINTAINED CONTROL OF VEHICLE BUT TRUCK WHEEL WELL AND BUMPER AND BODY OF TRUCK ARE DAMAGED. DRIVER RECOVERED STEEL BELT FRAGMENTS FROM FREEWAY AND TIRE IS AVAILABLE. FIRESTONE HAS REQUESTED WE SEND TIRE TO THEM. FIVE NEW TIRES WILL BE PURCHASED TO AVOID ADDITIONAL INCIDENTS. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. BEFORE THE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE ABS ENGAGED AND VEHICLE HIT A BRICK WALL. THERE WAS BUMPER DAMAGE. THE CONTACT WANTED GM TO REIMBURSE HER FOR THE BUMPER DAMAGE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER SEVERAL TIMES, AND THEY OFFERED NO REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE BUMPER DAMAGE. *AK
DT: CONSUMER STATES THE DRIVERS SEAT SLID FORWARD SIX INCHES FROM BACK, IT BROKE AND HIT THE TILT LEVER. IT CAUSEDTHE CONSUMER'S AUNT TO HAVE A BROKEN BACK, AND SHE WAS PARALYZED FROM THE WAIST DOWN. THIS HAPPENED ON OCTOBER 3, 2005, CONSUMER STATED THAT HER AUNT HAD FOOT ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN. THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. AT THIS TIME CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE SHIFTER IN THE PARK POSITION, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET IN THE VEHICLE AND STOP IT. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE, ALTHOUGH THE GEAR POSITION INDICATED PARK. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CABLE. UPDATED 2/21/2006 - THE SHIFT CABLE BROKE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY WHILE A CHILD WAS STILL SEATED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE IS A POPPING NOISE IN THE STEERING AND THE STEERING IS LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE WHEN VEHICLE WAS MOVING. ALSO FELT EXCESSIVE PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL. DEALER DETERMINED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. *AK
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE ON THE 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 WAS ENGAGED IT WOULD ONLY HOLD THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW SECONDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONCE HE EXITED THE VEHICLE IT WOULD ROLL AWAY. THE CONTACT STATED THIS HAPPENED WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A FLAT SURFACE OR A HILL. THIS CONTACT STATED THIS RESULTED IN NUMEROUS CRASHES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30000. THERE WAS A RECALL REPAIR COMPLETED FOR THIS PROBLEM; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THE ROTORS WERE PITTED AND RUSTED, WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED VEHICLE. HOWEVER, DID NOT COME TO ANY CONCLUSION AS TO WHAT CAUSES THIS TO HAPPEN. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO PERFORM ANY SERVICE ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 30000 MILES. *AK
UNDER NORMAL BRAKING JUST BEFORE STOPPING THE ABS ACTIVATES. *JB
HELLO: LAST WEEK MY TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT ON MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO WHEN I WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. AFTER A DETAILED INVESTIGATION, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION, AS THEY HAVE CORRECTED IT ON THE 2003 MODELS. I HAVE 58,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. THE SUN SHELL IN THE TRANSMISSION "STRIPS" OUT IT'S GEARS DUE TO IMPROPER MATERIAL USED FOR THE PART. THERE IS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON THIS MATTER. IT COST ME $2300 TO HAVE IT FIXED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN DO. THANKS SO MUCH. *JB

REPLACE REAR ROTORS ON VEHICLE WITH 27,000 MILES ON IT. LITTLE WEAR ON PADS. MFG ROTORS WERE OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE. I HAVE ORIGINAL ROTORS AND THE METAL IS BREAKING APART. *NM
DT: WHILE IN A PARKING LOT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO AVOID ANOTHER CAR AT A LOW SPEED WHEN THE LEFT REAR FRONT SPRING EYE OF THE REAR SUSPENSION BROKE OFF, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STRIKE A PILLAR. THIS OCCURRED WHEN THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE LOST CONTROL, AND TURNED SIDEWAYS, STRIKING THE PILLAR DUE TO THE LOSS OF THE SPRING. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. THE CONSUMER MADE THE DETERMINATION ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE TRUCK IS AT THE BODY SHOP NOW. IT HAS NOT BEEN TO A DEALER. NO REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS AT THIS TIME. THIS WAS THE FIRST ISSUE WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION. THERE WAS DAMAGE ONLY TO THE VEHICLE, NO POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. *AK
DT: WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 60 MPH AND THE CONSUMER STOPPED TO PERFORM A TURN. AFTER COMPLETING THE TURN THERE WAS A LOSS OF BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING, NO PREVIOUS OCCURRENCES. THE CONSUMER SELF DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE CONSUMER TOOK APART THE POWER STEERING PUMP, AND THE DRIVESHAFT OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS BROKEN . THE CONSUMER FELT THIS MAY BE DUE TO POOR CASTING OR UNDERSIZED IN DESIGN. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT REPLACED THIS AT THIS TIME. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED BOTH THE GM DEALER AND MANUFACTURER. THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. NO REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE AT THIS TIME. *AK THE CONSUMER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. *NM
DT: THERE IS RECALL 05V161000 CONCERNING EMERGENCY BRAKE PROBLEM ON MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HAS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN ALTHOUGH IT HAS THE SAME EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. REALIZED THIS PROBLEM ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2005 BECAUSE OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO GET IT INSPECTED , AND THEIR INSISTENCE THE EMERGENCY BRAKES WILL NOT HOLD. THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING FOR THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE COUNTY IN WHICH WE LIVE RECEIVES OVER 100+ INCHES OF SNOW ON AVERAGE. THE STATES THAT SURROUND US, WEST VIRGINIA AND PENNSYLVANIA, ARE CONSIDERED BY YOUR DEFINITION TO BE IN THE "RUST BELT" OUR STATE AND COUNTY ROAD CREWS USE A LOT OF SALT AND CHEMICALS ON THE ROADS IN THE WINTER DUE TO THE HIGH AMOUNT OF SNOW THAT WE RECEIVE EACH YEAR. FOR THIS REASON WE FEEL THAT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER THIS AREA IN THE COVERAGE ZONE FOR THE SAFETY RECALL OF THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORROSION. THE SILVERADO WOULD MAKE NOISES, VIBRATE AND WOULD FEEL LIKE IT WAS NOT GOING TO STOP IN THE NECESSARY AND APPROPRIATE DISTANCE AT LOW SPEEDS. THE BRAKES FELT MUSHY AND WOULD VIBRATE WHEN COMING TO A STOP. AT FIRST IT ONLY HAPPENED INFREQUENTLY, BUT THEN BEGAN TO HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. THE SILVERADO WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED AND THE TECHNICIAN TESTED BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT SENSORS. THE TECHNICIAN THEN TRIED TO REMOVE AND CLEAN THE ABOVE MENTIONED PARTS, WHICH COULD NOT BE DONE. THE RESULT WAS THAT A NEW HUB ASSEMBLY ON BOTH SIDES WAS INSTALLED . RE 2002 CHEVY TAHOE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS: UP UNTIL THE 34,000 MILE RANGE THE VEHICLE DID JUST THAT, RUN FLAWLESSLY. HOWEVER, AT 34,000 MILES (NOVEMBER OF 2004) THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND NEEDED TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY AND INSTANTLY THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO WHINE AND STOPPED OPERATING WHICH PLACED HER INTO THE PATH OF A LARGE TRUCK BEARING DOWN ON HER RATHER QUICKLY. THANKFULLY SHE WAS ABLE TO GLIDE OUT OF THE PATH OF THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE HAD THE TAHOE TOWED BACK TO OUR DEALERSHIP AND WE DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION "SUN SHELL" HAD FAILED AND WOULD BE REPLACED. OUR DEALER ASSURED US THAT THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE NEW PARTS WERE DESIGNED TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING IN THE FUTURE. OUR DEALER FURTHER STATED THAT THEY HAVE BEEN REPAIRING A LARGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES WITH THESE FAILURES. OUR TAHOE WENT OFF OF IT'S NEW CAR WARRANTY ON MILEAGE NOT NUMBER OF MONTHS SOMETIME IN APRIL OF 2005 (36 MONTHS WOULD HAVE ENDED THIS AUGUST). JUST THIS PAST MONDAY (SEPTEMBER 19, 2005) MY WIFE WAS AGAIN ON HER WAY TO WORK WHEN AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED IN OUR 2002 TAHOE. THE MILEAGE WAS APPROX: 41,000 ( TOTAL PERIOD OF MILES AND THE LENGTH OF TIME FROM THE PREVIOUS FAILURE WAS APPROX: 7 MONTHS). THE CIRCUMSTANCES WERE THE SAME, SHE WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY AND AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO WHINE AND SLIP. THIS TIME SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RELATIVE SAFETY. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO OUR DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE "SUN SHELL" HAD FAILED. I WENT TO PICK UP THE CAR ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 23, 2005 AND WHILE I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THE DAMAGED PART AND A BENCH THAT CONTAINED SEVERAL DAMAGED "SUN SHELL". IT OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT TAKE MUCH EFFORT TO REALIZE THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION AND SPECIFICALLY THIS PART. *JB

TAPPED THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME... LUCKILY, NO DAMAGE AND NO ONE WAS HURT BUT, IT COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS. IT NOW SEEMS THAT THE FAULTING ABS HAS BEEN NOTICED BEFORE BUT, IT WAS INTERMITTENT AND ONLY SUSPECT... THE 60A FUSE HAS BEEN PULLED TO DISABLE THIS "SAFETY" FEATURE... *NM
I HAD JUST PARKED MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB PICKUP TRUCK AND STEPPED OUT TO TALK WITH SOMEONE. THE KEYS WERE NOT IN THE IGNITION AND THE WINDOWS WERE DOWN. MY 4-YEAR OLD SON WHO WAS IN THE REAR SEAT, UNBUCKLED HIMSELF AND REACHED OVER THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND PRESSED THE SEAT POSITION MEMORY BUTTON. THE SEAT RETRACTED AND PINNED HIM BETWEEN THE SEAT AND THE B-PILLAR. AS A RESULT MY SON WAS ASPHYXIATED AND NEARLY DIED. SINCE HIS CHEST WAS IMMEDIATELY CRUSHED, HE COULD NOT YELL FOR HELP AND HAD I NOT TURNED TO CHECK ON HIM FOR ANOTHER MINUTE HE WOULD HAVE NOT RECOVERED. LUCKILY FOR US AND FOR THE HELP OF A QUICK RESPONDING RESCUE SQUAD, PARAMEDICS, AND EMERGENCY ROOM STAFF, MY SON IS ALIVE AND APPEARS TO BE WELL. MY COMPLAINT LIES WITH THE FACTS THAT THE MEMORY BUTTONS ARE 1) ACCESSIBLE BY A CHILD FROM THE REAR SEAT, AND 2) THAT (UNLIKE A MODERN GARAGE DOOR OPENERS) THE MOTOR MECHANISM WHICH GENERATES A GREAT DEAL OF POWER, DOES NOT SENSE ANY LEVEL OF RESISTANCE. THE GIRL WAS PINNED BETWEEN THE SEAT AND A PART OF THE FRAME KNOWN AS THE B-PILLAR BEHIND THE DOOR OF THE 2001 CHEVY TAHOE, POLICE SAID. CHESTER COUNTY CORONER SAID THE GIRL MOST LIKELY WAS CLIMBING THROUGH THE CRACK BETWEEN THE FRONT SEAT AND DOOR WHEN SHE PRESSED ONE OF THE BUTTONS ON A DOOR CONSOLE THAT MOVES THE SEAT TO PRE-PROGRAMMED POSITIONS.*JB

COLD ENGINE START-UP KNOCK. I OWN A 2002 SILVERADO Z71 WITH THE 4.8 ENGINE. THE ENGINE HAS HAD COLD START-UP KNOCK SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT. I HAVE ASKED DEALERS ABOUT IT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS NORMAL. I BUILD ENGINES FOR AND OWN TO DRAG CARS. ONE IS AN ET FOOTBRAKE CAR WITH A MILD 350 CI SMALL BLOCK CHEVY. THE OTHER IS A 48 FIAT ALTERED WITH A 434 CI SMALL BLOCK CHEVY STROKER. BOTH HAVE FORGED PISTONS AND NEITHER HAS THE COLD PISTON NOISE THAT THIS BONE STOCK 4.8 HAS. I CURRENTLY HAVE 39,139 MILES ON MY TRUCK AND WANT IT TO LAST AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. UNDER THE CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES, I DON'T THINK IT WILL LAST MUCH LONGER BEFORE IT CRACKS A PISTON SKIRT OR SEVERELY DAMAGES THE CYLINDER WALLS. THEY TOLD US TO PULL THE FUSE ON THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES UNTIL WE COULD BRING IN THE TRUCK ON THURSDAY, SEPT 1 TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CORRECTED. THE OTHER PERSON'S CAR THAT WAS STRUCK BY OUR TRUCK TOOK THEIR CAR TO GET AN ESTIMATE, WHICH CAME BACK AT $688. I CALLED GM TO GET THEM TO PAY FOR IT. THEY KEEP SAYING THEY NEED TO INVESTIGATE THIS FURTHER. MY CONCERN IS THAT RATHER THAN HITTING A PARKED CAR, MY HUSBAND COULD HAVE HIT A PERSON. HE COULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING DOWNTOWN AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED, COME TO A PERSON CROSSING A CROSSWALK, THE ANTI-LOCK BREAKS COULD HAVE ENGAGED AND HE COULD HAVE STRUCK A PERSON. 2002 CHEVROLET 2500HD W/ 8.1L GASOLINE ENGINE: THE FAILURE OF THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ON THESE ENGINES APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THIS SENSOR FAILED ON MY TRUCK AT ONLY 30K MILES! I KNOW OF TWO OTHER '02 TRUCKS W/ THIS ENGINE THAT ALSO HAD THE SENSOR FAIL AND MANY OTHERS HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED WHILE DOING RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM! THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE PROBLEM LIES IN THE FACT THAT THE TRUCK SUDDENLY STOPS RUNNING FOR NO REASON AND YOU LOSE ALL POWER FOR THE BRAKES AND STEERING. THE ENGINE JUST STOPS FOR NO REASON AT ANY TIME, HIGHWAY, SLOW MOVING, STOPPED, ETC. IT MAY RESTART, BUT THEN AGAIN IT MAY NOT FOR MANY HOURS! THE TRUCKS WITH THESE ENGINES IN THEM ARE GENERALLY TOWING LARGE TRAILERS BEHIND THEM. THIS COMPOUNDS THE SAFETY ASPECT OF THE PROBLEM. *JB
2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500HD CREW CAB. DURING REGULAR BRAKE INSPECTION FOUND ALL 4 BRAKE ROTORS RUSTED BEYOND SERVICE LIMITS. HALF OF ROTOR FACE RUSTED AWAY ON INSIDE OF ALL 4 ROTORS. THIS IS CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES. TRUCK UNABLE TO STOP WITH ANY TYPE OF LOAD. TRUCK WAS PURCHASED WITH A TOWING PACKAGE. TRUCK HAS 56K MILES. ALL 4 ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WILL BE REPLACED AT OWNERS EXPENSE.
POOR QUALITY VEHICLE/PARTS ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE WHEN THEY SHOULD NOT, THERE IS AN UPCOMING RECALL AS GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO, HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT FIX IT UNTIL THE RECALL IS ACTIVE. I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES NOW, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUES AND THEY SHOULD FIX THEM NOW AND NOT MAKE ME PAY FOR THIS SERVICE AND THEN REQUIRE ME TO SUBMIT A BILL AT A LATER DATE TO BE REIMBURSED. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED T THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE . THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN O5V379000 CONCERNING ANTILOCK BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.*AK
ABS FAILURE AT LOW SPEED, ABS ACTIVATES AT LOW SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT UNDER NORMAL BRAKING SITUATIONS. FIRST HAD PROBLEM AT APPROX. 38,000 MILES. REPAIRED BY DEALERSHIP AT 47,00 MILES BY REMOVAL AND CLEANING OF WHEEL SPEED SENSOR.. SAME PROBLEM AT APPROX. 64,000 MILES, HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. REF.NHTSA PE05020.
08/14/2005 TRAVELING FROM ATLANTA, GA ON I-95 AND NOTICED A VIBRATION COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT OF VEHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN THEN THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING SO BAD IT WAS ALMOST HARD TO CONTROL. STOPPED VEHICLE SAFELY AND INSPECTED FRONT END AND FOUND THAT THE LEFT FRONT TIRE HAD SEPARATED AT THE RADIAL BELT. FOUND A BACK COUNTRY STORE AND HAD A TIRE INSTALL (USED ALL THAT WAS AVAIL). TIRE COST 150.00 BOY WAS I TAKEN. STILL HAVE TIRE IN MY POSSESSION. *NM
