VEHICLE BRAKES DO NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY AT LOW SPEED. APPARENTLY AN ABS MALFUNCTION CAUSED BY CORROSION OF AN ABS SENSOR. VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP CAUSING ME TO RUN OVER A CURB.
RECENTLY I WAS ROTATING MY TIRES (MOVING FRONT TIRES TO REAR AND REAR TIRES TO FRONT). I HAD THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED AND UPON HAND TIGHTENING UP THE REAR TIRES (THE REAR END WAS COMPLETLY OFF THE GROUND), I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO RESISTANCE ON THE REAR TIRES WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED. AFTER LOWERING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE GROUND, I PERFORMED A TEST. I WAS ON A FLAT SURFACE, PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND TRIED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE BY MYSELF. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE WITH EASE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ALSO GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE AND HAS NO EFFECT ON THE BRAKES. I VISITED WWW.NHTSA.DOT.GOV AND NOTICED THAT A RECALL HAS BEEN PLACED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM ON VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 05V161000). I CALL CHEVROLET AND VOICED MY CONCERN OVER MY VEHICLE NOT HAVING RESISTANCE AT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, THEY STATED THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, THAT I WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. QUESTION TO NHTSA, HOW DOES THE TYPE OF TRANSMISSION EFFECT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH IS SUPPOSE TO BE A MECHANICAL DEVICE THAT OPERATES ON ITS OWN? I HAVE BEEN TO MANY FORUMS WHERE NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE MENTIONED PROBLEMS WITH THEIR EMERGENCY BRAKES. I HAVE EVEN PRINTED A TECHNICAL DOCUMENT FROM CHEVROLET THAT DESCRIBES TO THE TECHNICIAN TO INSTALL THE SAME RETAINING CLIP TO EMERGENCY BRAKE JOBS THAT IS USED IN THE RECALL FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THIS IS A PROBLEM AND COULD LEAD TO NUMEROUS CRASHES, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS JUST THAT...A PERSON RELIES ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN EMERGENCIES AND WITHOUT THE BRAKE DOING ITS JOB, PEOPLE WILL SUSTAIN INJURIES AND EVEN DIE WITHOUT THIS PROBLEM BEING FIXED IMMEDIATELY.
DT: THE ANTI- LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN THERE WERE NO SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. CONSUMER CAN HEAR THE ABS WHEN IT COMES ON. IT RESULTS IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *AK
BRAKES FAILED DURING EMERGENCY STOP, NEARLY CAUSING SERIOUS ACCIDENT. CHEVROLET DEALER CITED RUSTED BRAKE ROTORS. CHEVROLET REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPAIR, CLAIMING (ACCORDING TO DEALER) LOW MILEAGE (17,031) INDICATED TRUCK "SAT" TOO MUCH, PROMOTING RUST. REAR ROTORS REPLACED IN JUNE, 2005. FRONT ROTORS WERE REPAIRED BUT HAVE NOW BEEN IDENTIFIED AS RUSTED AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT (AUGUST, 2006). TWO DEALERS HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT PARTS (COMPOSITE ROTORS) ARE OF INFERIOR QUALITY AND HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR FRUSTRATION THAT GM HAS NOT RECALLED. CHEVROLET REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM OR TO ASSIST IN REPAIR COST, CALLING THE SITUATION A "MAINTENANCE ISSUE" CAUSED BY THE ENVIRONMENT (CASE # 1-427-765-013). CHEVROLET CLAIMS THIS IS THE DEALER'S DIAGNOSIS, ALTHOUGH THE DEALER CLEARLY STATED TO ME THAT THE PARTS ARE INFERIOR. I REQUESTED A COPY OF MY FILE AND WAS REFUSED (CHEVROLET CALLS IT "PROPRIETARY" INFORMATION). *NM
I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD 2500 WHICH WAS PURCHASED NEW IN SEPT. 2002. THE VEHICLE REPLACED A 1989 SILVERADO 2500 WHICH HAD 189,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF SALE. NEVER DID I HAVE A BRAKE PROBLEM WITH THAT VEHICLE OR ANY OTHER. SINCE THE TIME OF PURCHASE, THE BRAKES WERE VERY SOFT AND THE VEHICLE SLOW TO STOP. I ATTRIBUTED THIS TO THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THE ANTILOCK BREAKS, MY FIRST ON A TRUCK, SEEMED TO ACTIVATE MORE THAN I WOULD EXPECT. I REGULARLY HAVE THE TRUCK SERVICED AT EITHER THE DEALER OR AT A GOODYEAR SERVICE CENTER. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT EITHER OF THESE ARE QUICK TO SPOT SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN CHARGE YOU TO REPLACE. THE TRUCK HAS SLIGHTLY OVER 40,000 MILES, ALMOST ALL OF WHICH ARE UNDER HIGHWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS. I COMMUTE 25 MILES WHEN I DO DRIVE IT TO WORK AND THAT IS PRIMARILY AT NON-RUSH HOUR TIMES. ALL BUT THE LAST MILE IS ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON COUNTRY ROADS. IN OTHER WORDS, VERY LITTLE BRAKING. AT LEAST HALF OF THE MILES HAVE BEEN RECORDED ON LONG HIGHWAY TRIPS. I RARELY PULL ANYTHING WITH THE TRUCK. RARELY HAS THE TRUCK CARRIED HEAVY LOADS. RECENTLY I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE VIOLENTLY WHEN I APPLIED THE BREAKS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED. I WAS INFORMED THAT ALL 4 ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR A COST OF NEARLY $1,200 DOLLARS. I HAVE NEVER EVEN HAD TO REPLACE A PAD ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM - THE PART THAT SHOULD WEAR OUT. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURE JUST SAY THAT IT IS A MAINTENANCE ITEM AND DENY A PROBLEM EXISTS. MY 10 YEAR OLD CAR HAS 85,000 MILESAND JUST RECENTLY HAD THE PADS REPLACED AND THE ROTORS TURNED FOR THE FIRST TIME. IN OTHER WORDS, THIS IS NOT A DRIVING HABIT RELATED PROBLEM. AS I LOOK AT CONSUMER INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET, I FIND THAT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS SORT OF PROBLEM. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE DEATH AND OR INJURY. I AM CURRENTLY AFRAID TO DRIVE THE TRUCK UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE.
THE ABS COMES ON AT LOW SPEED WHEN IT SHOULDN'T, RESULTING IN EXTENDING STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER MISS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE LEFT FRONT HUB. REPLACING BOTH FRONT HUBS AND WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. *AK
TL*- THE CONTACT FOUND A RECALL FOR THE MANUAL TRASMISSION VERSION OF HIS TRUCK BUT HE IS HAVING THE SAME PARKING BREAK ISSUES WITH HIS TRUCK WHICH IS AN AUTOMATIC. THE DEARLER HAS STATED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. THE MECHANIIC STATES THAT IT WAS A BAD DESIGN.
WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE TO STOP THE VECHILE AT UNPREDICTABLE TIMES THE ABS KICKS IN AND THE TRUCK DOES NOT STOP. IT HAS CASUED SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS AND 1 SMACK INTO A GARAGE DOOR. I TOOK TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS TRUCK AND IT WAS THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 24,000 MILES ON IT BUT IS OUT OF WARR DUE TO AGE. DEALER WANTS $400 TO FIX, BUT IT APPEARS BASED ON MY MECHANIC AND REPORTS READ ON INTERNET THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND GM SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT SLOW SPEED. IT HAS NOW BECOME CONSTANT AT ALL DECELERATIONS. *JB
ABS SENSOR MALFUCTION ON SILVERADO - VEHICLE HAS DIFFICULT TIME STOPPING AT LOW SPEED AND ABS LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED
DT: 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71. THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, WHEN THE CONSUMER PUSHED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO MOVE, THE CONSUMER ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK TO STOP IT. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A GARAGE, AND THE MECHANIC RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE VEHICLE, THE TEST CAME OUT NEGATIVE. THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTS UP, BUT IT FAILS TO COME ON WHEN THE ABS BRAKES FAIL. THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *AK *SC *JB
DT; PROBLEMS WITH ABS BRAKES. WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES KICKED IN AT A LOW SPEED, AND THE TRUCK MADE A LOT OF NOISE AND VIBRATED. SAW A NEWS REPORT ON THE ABS BRAKES. DEALER SAID THEY HAVE NOT YET HEARD FROM GMC ON THIS PROBLEM. MANUFACTURER SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL. *AK
DT: THE BRAKE ROTORS PITTED, CORRODED, RUSTED, AND FLAKED. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN SERVICED, AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT OTHER ROTORS HAVE BEEN CORRODING AS WELL. THE ROTORS DON'T SHOW SIGNS OF A PROBLEM UNTIL THE METAL HAS WORN DOWN. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED GENERAL MOTOR AND SAID THE WERE VERY RUDE.*AK
DT: CONTACT STATES THE BRAKES ON VEHICLE STARTED PULSATING WHILE BRAKING. A LOCAL SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKES AND ROTORS ON THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE VEHICLE.*AK *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BRAKING FROM SPEEDS OF 5 MPH THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGED, INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE BY APPROXIMATELY SEVEN FEET. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT THE ROTORS, BRAKES AND SPEED SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE BUT WAS ADVISED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE CONTACT STATED HE HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE BEFORE AND REPAIRS WERE MADE BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 153,847 UPDATED 08/17/10. *LJ THE CV BOOT WAS LEAKING. UPDATED 09/28/10
ERRATIC STOPPING AND SQUEALING NOISE WAS NOTICED ON MAY 17, 2005. UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND MY REAR BREAK ROTORS ON MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD (39,000 MI.) TO BE EXTREMELY DETERIORATED. THE METAL IS ACTUALLY FLAKING OFF ON THE FACE OF THE ROTORS. THE PADS STILL HAVE APPROX. 2/3 THICKNESS REMAINING. I HAVE NOT YET CONTACTED THE DEALER, BUT FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS I'VE READ, IT LOOKS LIKE MY DIME TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
EVERY TIME I STOP THIS TRUCK THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES KICK IN AT 3 - 5 MPH.
DT; WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON DRY PAVEMENT THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT DISCOVERED THERE WERE NO BRAKES. WHEN THE ABS KICKED IN, THE CONSUMER NEARLY RAN INTO BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE ABS JUST TOOK OVER AT A LOW SPEED, IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE LAST FRIDAY. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN DONE. THE CONSUMER CALLED THE DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM. *JB

DT: AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS KICKS IN AND THE VEHICLE IS HARD TO STOP. USUALLY OCCURS ABOUT 5-10 MPH. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS UNDER ALL WEATHER AND DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE VEHICLE IS TURNING OR GOING STRAIGHT. THE VEHICLE HAS 4 WHEEL ANTILOCK. THE OWNER HAS NOT CALLED THE DEALER YET. VEHICLE IS REGULARLY SERVICED BUT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED YET. NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. A VIBRATION COULD BE FELT AND HEARD IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. *AK
EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILURE AT 57000 MILES, ATE UP DRUM/ROTOR, NEVER ADJUSTED PROPERLY FROM NEW. USED AT EVERY ENGAGEMENT OF PARK. DEALER SAID HE HAD SEEN MANY WITH SAME PROBLEM DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN BY CHEVROLET. EXPENSIVE TO HAVE FIXED AND NO GUARANTEE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN AT 50K+/- MILES.
I AM EXPERIENCING UNDESIRED APPLICATION OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ON MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK UP TRUCK DUE TO FAULTY WHEEL HUB SPEED SENSORS. IT STARTED OUT AS A ONCE IN A WHILE THING A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AND IS NOW AN ALMOST ROUTINE OCCURANCE ON ALMOST EVERY BRAKING. WHEN THE ABS APPLIES, THE STOPPING DISTANCE IS ALMOST DOUBLED. THIS OCCURS AT SPEEDS BELOW 10MPH, WHICH IS WHEN YOU ARE USUALLY CLOSING THE RANGE ON WHATEVER YOU'RE TRYING TO STOP FOR. ASIDE FROM HAVING IT CHECKED OVER BY A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE COST ESTIMATE HAS RANGED FROM $300.00 UP TO OVER $1,000.00. I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS CORROSION RELATED DUE TO BEING KEPT OUTSIDE AND DRIVEN ON DIRT ROADS, ETC. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED FROM MY UNCLE WHO DROVE IT ON PAVED ROADS, KEPT IT IN A HEATED GARAGE, AND IT HAS SEEN ONLY OCCASIONAL EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALT. IT IS ONLY IN THE LAST YEAR THAT IS HAS BEEN PARKED OUTDOORS ON A REGULAR BASIS. I HAVE NOT DONE THE REPAIRS AS I AM GOING TO PERSUE IT WITH GM TO PAY FOR THEM SINCE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND IS NO WAY RELATED TO ANYTHING I'VE DONE, AS WELL AS BEING OUT OF MY BUDGET IF THE COST BECOMES EXCESSIVE.
AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES WHEN THE BREAK IS APPLIED CAUSING THE TRUCK TO BRAKE POORLY. UNTIL JUST RECENTLY I'VE HAD NO PROBLEMS AND MY BRAKE PADS ARE FINE PER MY MECHANIC WHO CHECKED THEM ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK I PULLED INTO A FRIENDS DRIVEWAY ABOUT 5MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKE ON DRY PAVEMENT WHEN THE ABS CAME ON AND I WAS SENT CRASHING INTO HIS GARAGE. THIS HAS HAPPEND ALMOST 20 TIMES SINCE THAT DAY. I CAN NOT EVEN DRIVE MY TRUCK TO WORK ANYMORE DUE TO FEAR OF HITTING SOMEONE. I HAVE A 2002 SILVERADO XC 1500 4X4 THAT IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED WITH 81332MILES. MY FATHER AND BROTHER BOTH OWN SIMILAR MODEL GM TRUCKS BOTH 2000 MODELS WITH EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE AS OF YET TO FIX MY TRUCK I'M WAITING TO SEE IF I CAN MAKE THE DEALER PAY FOR THE DAMAGES DONE AND FIX MY BRAKE SYSTEM.
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT SHE WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE ABS SYSTEM KICKED IN AT LOW SPEEDS OF 0-10 MPH. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS SLOWING DOWN OR COMING TO A STOP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE MAY 2005 INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONSUMER HAD THE ABS SENSORS CLEANED, AND THE TRUCK WAS DRIVING MUCH BETTER AFTER THE CLEANING. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND THEY TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THIS TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CURRENTLY. GENERAL MOTORS TOLD THE MECHANIC AT THE REPAIR SHOP TO JUST CLEAN THE SENSORS INSTEAD OF REPLACING THEM. THIS WAS AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. *AK
DT: THE PROBLEM BEGAN ABOUT A MONTH WHEN COMING TO A STOP SIGN, AND AFTER APPLYING BRAKES EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE WAS REQUIRED, AND BRAKES SHUDDERED. VEHICLE WAS REGULARLY SERVICED. THE ABS LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. HAPPENED IN ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS UNDER NORMAL BRAKING CONDITIONS. OWNER BELIEVED THEY WERE 4 WHEEL ANTI LOCK BRAKES. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, HAPPENING ABOUT EVERY OTHER TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT SLOW SPEEDS. AT ABOUT 5 MPH. DEALER STATED THAT THE ABS SENSORS WERE DIRTY, AND HAD TO BE CLEANED. OWNER REPLACED THE BRAKES AT 30,000 MILES, AND BRAKES BEGAN TO CAUSE PROBLEMS AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF NEW BRAKES.*AK ABS SENSORS FAILED AND WAS NOT COVERED IN WARRANTY. REAR ROTORS REPLACED AT 30,000 MILES WHEN BEING REPLACED CHUNKS OF METAL FELL OFF DEALER SAID CONSUMER WAS LUCKY TO GET 30,000 MILES OUT OF THEM.*SB *NM
CONTACT STATED: TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER YESTERDAY. REAR BRAKE SYSTEM HAD TOTALLY RUSTED AND FELL APART. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS GONE. ROTORS FELL APART/RUSTED. HAD NO REAR BRAKES. 1 YEAR AGO HE HAD THE CAR INSPECTED AND NOTHING WAS WRONG THEN.*AK
2 MO. AFTER INSPECTION OF 2002 SILVERDO TRUCK(2-05) BRAKES STARTED TO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE. EXCESSIVE BUILD-UP OF RUST ON ROTORS-CHECKED BRAKE SHOES AND ALL WERE IN GOOD SHAPE-CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO HAVE ROTORS TURNED DOWN AT MY EXPENSE EVEN AFTER BUYING EXTENDED WARRENTY. MY FATHER JUST HAD HIS BRAKES REPAIRED 2 MO. AGO FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON A 2001 SILVERDO TRUCK AND A 2 PEOPLE I WORK WITH HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS
2002 SILVERADO AUTOMATIC, PARKING BRAKE AT 53,000MILES HAS NO PADS LEFT AND THE ROTOR IS SCORED. ROTOR UNREPAIRABLE.PARKING BRAKE NOT HOLDING. DEALER AS WELL AS GMCUSTOMER SERVICE DENIES ANY PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS. PROBLEM NOT FIXED AS GM REFUSES TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY ALSO DENIES ANY KNOWLEGE OF RECALL ON 2002 SILVERADO MANUAL TRANSMISSION.

2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1/2 TON PICKUP...... ANTI-LOCK BRAKES MALFUNCTION.... HAD AT LEAST 6 INSTANCES WHERE IT SEEMS THAT THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK AS I ATTEMPT TO SLOW DOWN OR COME TO A COMPLETE STOP..... I AM NOW IN THE HABIT OF BEGINNING TO STOP AT LEAST 100 FEET SHORTER THAN WHAT I SHOULD NORMALLY EXPECT TO.... MOST TIMES IT HAPPENS, IT SEEMS THAT THE ANTI-LOCK FEATURE TAKES OVER, WHEN THERE SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO DO SO (DRY PAVEMENT AND LESS THAN 15 MPH)...NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT IS NOT A POSITIVE FEELING TO "HOPE" THAT THE BRAKES ARE INDEED GOING TO WORK..... WHAT I FIND AGGRAVATING IS THAT I CONTACTED 2 SEPARATE GM DEALERSHIPS WITH THIS ISSUE, ONE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE COMPUTER "KNOWS THE NECESSARY STOPPING DISTANCE" (I ASKED IF THE COMPUTER CAN SEE THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHICH I AM ABOUT TO REAR-END)......THE OTHER DEALERSHIP SAID "SORRY, THEY ALL DO THAT FROM TIME TO TIME"..... IT IS ONLY AFTER REALIZING THAT NHTSA IS LOOKING INTO COMPLAINTS WITH BRAKING ON THESE VEHICLES THAT I WANT TO MAKE KNOWN THAT IT IS INDEED MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUE THAN WHAT GM'S CORPORATE POSITION IS TAKING.... I FEEL THAT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE MY VEHICLE IS ONE OF THOSE INVOLVED IN A FENDER BENDER, OR GOD FORBID, I RUN OVER A PEDESTRIAN IN A CROSSWALK.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AT LOW SPEEDS MANY TIMES. NEAR MISS ACCIDENT. GM HAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IN COLD WEATHER STATES BUT NOT WISCONSIN. TIRE FAILURE: THE 2002 CHEVROLET 3500 TRUCK PURCHASED HAD GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES ON AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THEY ALL BULGED AROUND THE RIM AND EVENTUALLY ONE "BLEW OUT" I TOOK THEM TO THE GOODYEAR DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THEM UNDER ROAD HAZARD. THE REPLACEMENT SET RAN HALF LIFE AND THEY STARTED TO BULGE IN THE SAME SPOT. ONE BLEW OUT ON THE FREEWAY.THIS TIME I REPLACED THEM WITH DIFFERENT TIRES, BUT SAVED THE OLD ONES IN CASE YOU WISHED TO LOOK AT THEM. SERIOUS INJURY COULD HAPPEN FROM THIS AND I THINK THAT IF I HAD REPLACED THEM WITH GOODYER TIRES, THE PROBLEM WOULD BE BURRIED WITHIN THE COMPANY.IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED THEN I NEED TO RECYCLE THEM.
OWNER - 02 CHEV SILVERADO PICKUP - VIN [XXX]. RECENTLY, I BEGIN TO DETECT A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. AT TIMES, YOU COULD ACTUAL FEEL THIS THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. I CHECKED SEVERAL ON LINE CONSUMER SITES AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM W/ SEVERAL TYPES OF GM VEHICLES. WHEN I CONTACTED SEVERAL GM DEALERSHIPS, I WAS INFORMED THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS COMPLAINT. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE DEALERSHIPS FURTHER, THEY INFORMED GM HAD ISSUED SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS ISSUE AND HAD ALSO REVISED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFTS DESIGN AND REPLACEMENT SHAFTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. WHEN I CONTACTED GM,THEY CONTEND, THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT READILY ADMITTED THE ORIGINAL DESIGN HAS PROBLEM. GM ALSO CONTENDS IT IS NOT UNSAFE, NOR ARE THE SHAFTS UNDER RECALL CONSIDERATION. I QUESTION GMS VIEWS ON THIS ISSUE. ARE THESE STEERING SHAFTS BEING TESTED OR REVIEWED FOR POSSIBLE SAFETY DEFECTS? ON THE WAY TO MY DOCTOR'S APPT, I NOTICED THAT MY TRUCK DID NOT SHIFT TO 2ND VERY WELL, BUT I PARKED, AND WHEN I WAS ATTEMPTING TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACE, THE TRUCK WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. ON THE WAY TO DEALERSHIP (RICK HENDRIX CHEVROLET), I NOTICED THAT IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 4TH (OVERDRIVE). WHEN I HAD THE GUYS CHECK MY TRUCK, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE 2ND, 4TH AND REVERSE GEARS HAD GONE OUT ON MY TRUCK: A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4DR EXTENDED CAB LS 4WD 5.3LTR ENGINE. WHICH I HAVE HAD FOR 1 YEAR AND 6 MONTHS. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT REPAIR IT UNLESS I PAY $1800! THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM, BUT THERE IS A KIT AVAILABLE FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX IT! THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM... THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE BRAKES WHICH SEEMED TO BE THE ABS. THE PROBLEM WOULD USUALLY OCCUR ABOUT 10 MPH THEN THE BRAKES WOULD START TO SHAKE WHEN SLOWING DOWN. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A SLIGHT INCLINE IN ROAD WITH ABOUT 500 LBS OF WEIGHT IN BACK OF TRUCKAND WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED FOUND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL HAD STRONG VIBRATIONS AND TENDED TO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO THE LEFT.*AK WENT TO DEALER FOR REPAIR / ANALYSIS, THEY FOUND THE LEFT FRONT DISK BRAKE ROTOR WAS EXCESSIVELY RUSTED AND LACKING CONTACT WITH THE DISK BRAKE PAD IN THE CENTER OF THE ROTOR. THE RIGHT SIDE ROTOR ALSO HAD EXCESSIVE RUSTING AND PITTING. DEALER ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN THE RUST BY "CUTTING" THE ROTORS ON A MACHINE, BUT AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE ROTORS THICKNESS WAS BELOW LEGAL LIMITS AND THE RUST WAS STILL EXCESSIVE. DEALER REPLACED BOTH ROTORS UNDER WARRANTY. VEHICLE NOW DRIVES AND BRAKES AS IT SHOULD

WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN STEERING COLUMN FAILED TO TURN PROPERLY. DRIVER TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT WAS HARD TO TURN. ALSO, DRIVER COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. DRIVER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK......ALSO, STEERING HARD TO TURN WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. *AK
I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY LEFT SIDE DRIVERS DOOR WINDOW. I LOWERED IT AT A MCDONALD'S DRIVE THRU WINDOW, AND IT MADE A GRINDING SOUND AND WOULD NOT HARDLY ROLL UP. I TOOK MY HAND AND HELPED IT UP INTO PLACE. I PAID FOR THE REPAIR AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. THE CABLE ON THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS BAD. I HAD TO GET A NEW ONE FROM C&O MOTORS ( CHEVROLET DEALER) AND CROSS LANES TIRE AND AUTO REPAIR SHOP MADE THE REPAIRS FOR ME.
1.I OWN A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WERE COMING ON WHEN I WOULD COME TO A SLOW STOP OR THE END OF A STOP. MOST OF THE TIME THEY WOULD JUST GRIND BUT A COUPLE OF TIMES THE BRAKES FAILED. 2. THE FIRST TIME THEY FAILED I RAN INTO MY GARAGE DOOR AND JUST DENTED IT A LITTLE. THE SECOND TIME I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND SMASHED INTO A PARKED CAR. I DID DO A POLICE REPORT ON THAT ONE. THROUGH THE FENTON POLICE DEPARTMENT (2005-001636). 3. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSOR HAD CORROSION ON IT AND WAS CLEANED FOR $250 BUCKS. THAT IS ALL THEY DID.

FRONT SPEED SENSORS FAILED IN 2005 BEFORE THE RECALL ON MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71. HAD RECALL TAKEN CARE OF IN 2005. THEY ARE FAILING AGAIN THIS YEAR 2011 AND NOW THE REAR BRAKE LINE JUST RUPTURED YESTERDAY 12/18/2011. MY HUSBAND AGREES THAT SALT AT IS PART OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LINES BUT THE ABS SENSORS IS AN ON GOING CHEVY PROBLEM IN THESE TRUCKS AND ONCE THE RECALL IS PERFORMED ONCE, THE FUTURE FAILURES ARE UP THE OWNER TO FIX AND COVER THE COST. MY TRUCK IS A 2002 BUT IT ONLY HAS 76,000 MILES ON IT. ALL THESE BRAKING ISSUES SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. AND SERIOUSLY THEY BUILD THESE RIGHT HERE TOO, ALTHOUGH MINE SAYS BUILT IN FORT WAYNE , INDIANA, YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD BE BETTER MADE.
