WHILE GOING FORWARD IN A PARKING LOT MY BRAKES FAILED, IT WAS DRY PAVEMENT BUT THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND I ALMOST HIT A BUILDING. THIS WAS THE SECOND INCIDENT. MY SPEED WAS UNDER 10 MPH AT THE TIME.*AK
CONSUMER STATED: BRAKES LOCKED UP, DOES SO AT SLOW SPEEDS AT 10-15MPH. PUSHED BRAKES TO FLOOR AND THEN LET OFF AND HAVE TO PUSH AGAIN. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH IN NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE LUNGED WITHOUT WARNING WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE SPEED SENSOR. THE SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM WAS REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE RECALL DEFECT; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE RECALL REMEDY HAS NOT CORRECTED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000. AT 37720 MILES ON 2002 CHEVROLET 4X4 PICKUP. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR SAFETY INSPECTION AND SERVICE TO GM DEALERSHIP. WAS INFORMED THAT VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS BEING RUSTED AND WORN OUT. THIS WAS IN MARCH 2005. IN OCTOBER 2005 RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE RELATING TO SEVERE CORROSION BETWEEN FRONT HUB/BEARING AND SPEED SENSOR. FILLED FOR A CLAIM REIMBURSEMENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT ALL PARTS WERE INTER RELATED. ALSO EVEN THE REPAIR INVOICE STATED WORN OUT/RUSTED. WAS INFORMED THAT NO REIMBURSEMENT WOULD BE PAID.*AK
A PIECE OF FURNITURE WAS LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO HIT THE FURNITURE. DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF A VEHICLE ,AND IT CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL. DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT FAILED, AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER REFUSED MEDICAL ATTENTION AT THAT TIME AND WENT TO THE HOSPITAL ON HIS OWN. VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ABOUT 5 MPH, IT WAS VERY LITTLE SNOW ON THE GROUND AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN THE CONSUMER HIT THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE SKIDDED THROUGH A GATE. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A REGULAR INSPECTION AND THE REPAIR SHOP NOTICED A VERY UNUSUAL WEAR PATTERN FOR THE REAR BRAKES. AN INSURANCE CLAIM WAS FILED. *JB *SC
TRUCK FAILS TO STOP AT LOW SPEED. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON TWO VEHICLES, A 1998 CHEVROLET SIVERADO AND OUR CURRENT 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO.
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 EXTENDED CAB, CURRENTLY THE ABS BREAKS ARE GOING INTO ABS MODE WHEN I TRY TO STOP ON ANY SURFACE INCLUDING DRY AT LOW SPEEDS (UNDER 10MPH). THIS IS CAUSING MY BREAKING DISTANCE AT LOW SPEEDS TO INCREASE AS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM I HAVE TO LET OFF THE BREAKS AND THEN MASH THEM. EXACTLY THE BEHAVIOUR THAT ABS IS SUPPOSED TO NEGATE. I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE ISSUE YET BUT SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE, WILL PULL THE ABS FUSE TO DISABLE THAT FUNCTION.
THE EXACT PROBLEM YOU DESCRIBE IN INVESTIGATION #PE05-020. I CAME WITHIN INCHES OF HITTING A PARKED CAR. I SPENT $266.30 TO HAVE THE ABS SENSORS CLEANED. THIS SHOULD REQUIRE A RECALL: THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM CONSISTENTLY ENGAGES WHEN AT SLOW-SPEED STOPPING (5-8 MPH). PROBLEM STARTED AT THE 40,000 MILE MARK. DEALER INFORMED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE ISSUE BUT MY VIN DOES NOT QUALIFY. *TR
COMPLAINT REF [XXX] ON MAR 12,2005 I HAD A FAILURE OF THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM THAT RESULTED IN A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE! I STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION. THE FAILURE WAS IN A PARKING LOT AT SLOW SPEED. I HAD THE SAME TYPE OF FAILURE ON AUG 3,2004. I REPORTED IT TO THE NHTSA AT THAT TIME. LAST AUG GM OK'D A WARRANTY FIX BY USING SERVICE BULLT. # 02-05-006A-(NOV 26,2002). AT THAT TIME THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO RUNNING INTO A FENCE. AFTER COMPLAINING, THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR FIXING THE DAMAGE. NOW BACK TO THE PRESENT FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE PROBLEM THIS TIME WAS THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLIES WHICH THE ABS SENSORS ARE ATTACHED. CONTACTING GM, I TOLD THEM I BELIEVED THE REPAIR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH MY MILEAGE WAS 36,500. THEY SAID IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WAS 3 MONTHS AND 500 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY. I DID NOT AGREE WITH THEM AS I SEE THIS AS A CONTINUATION OF LAST AUGUST'S PROBLEM AND THAT IT WASN'T FIXED CORRECTLY AT THAT TIME. I HAD THE TRUCK FIXED AND PAID THE $631 MYSELF. I AM CONTACTING YOU BECAUSE I BELIEVE THERE IS AN ABS BRAKE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THAT IS NOT PECULIAR TO MY VEHICLE BUT NO DOUBT IS WIDESPREAD. PRIOR TO THE CRASH I'LL DESCRIBE, I NOTICED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ON MY TRUCK WOULD ENGAGE RANDOMLY AT LOW SPEEDS, EVEN THOUGH THE ROAD WAS CLEAR AND DRY. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY INDICATION FROM INDICATOR LIGHTS OR THE TRUCK'S STATUS DISPLAY THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION IN PROGRESS. UNTIL THE INCIDENT BELOW, BRAKING CONTROL ALWAYS RETURNED WITHIN A FEW SECONDS AND SEEMED TO POSE NO SAFETY THREAT. ON THIS PARTICULAR EVENING, THEY HAD PERFORMED WITHOUT INCIDENT ALL THE WAY HOME FROM WORK. I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND INTO MY GARAGE. UPON ENTERING THE GARAGE PROPER, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGED. THE GARAGE FLOORS (AND DRIVEWAY) WERE BOTH CLEAR OF ANY SNOW, ICE, OR LIQUIDS. WHEN THE ANTILOCK BRAKES TOOK CONTROL, IT RELEASED THE BRAKES AND LOCKED THE BRAKE PEDAL IN SUCH A WAY THAT I COULD NOT REGAIN CONTROL. THIS TIME, I WAS UNABLE TO PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN. MY VEHICLE SUBSEQUENTLY STUCK THE WORKBENCH ALONG THE BACK WALL OF MY GARAGE. THE IMPACT PUSHED THE ENTIRE GARAGE WALL OUT ALMOST 12 INCHES, INCLUDING THE CEMENT BLOCK FOUNDATION. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE DAMAGE TO THE GARAGE REMAINS. TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, A MECHANIC AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP REMOVED THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE ANTILOCK BRAKE FUNCTIONS, ESSENTIALLY DISABLING THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM. DUE TO THE NATURE AND LOCATION OF THE ANTILOCK SENSORS (IN THE WHEEL BEARINGS), REPAIRS ARE NOT FINANCIALLY FEASIBLE AT THIS TIME. THE TRUCK'S BRAKES FUNCTION NORMALLY WITH THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM DISABLED. I BELIEVE THAT THIS COMPLAINT DIRECTLY RELATES TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE05020.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WAS REBUILT; HOWEVER, IT FAILED AGAIN WITHIN 2.5 YEARS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 159,000.
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT CLUNKING NOISE. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE GLOWPLUGS. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PLUGS WERE BURNED OUT, AND THEY DID NOT HOLD A CHARGE LIKE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND EACH TIME MORE OF THE PLUGS WERE BURNED OUT.
I STARTED NOTICING IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR THAT SOMETIMES MY ANTILOCK BRAKES KICKED IN WHEN THERE WAS NO APPARRENT REASON FOR THEM TO DO SO. FIRST IT WAS MAYBE ONCE A WEEK AND THEN IT GOT TO BE EVERYDAY. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED, APPLEGATE CHEVROLET, AND THEY SEEMED TO KNOW RIGHT AWAY WHAT WAS WRONG. MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SENSORS WERE CORROTED. $300 LATER IT WAS FIXED. THREE OF THE SENSORS THEY WERE ABLE TO CLEAN, ONE BROKE. I HAVE THE BROKEN ONE THAT HAD TO BE TOTALLY REPLACED.

DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS FAILED. THE ABS KICKED IN WHEN IT WAS NOT NEEDED AT LOW SPEEDS. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TO A SERVICE DEALER YET. THE CONSUMER WAS WAITING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE INVESTIGATION OF THE ABS SYSTEM. *AK
PER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE05-020, I HAVE EXPERIENCED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCAISION THE FAILURES DESCRIBED IN THE AFOREMENTIONED BULLETIN. FAILURES OCCURRED SUBSEQUENT TO DEALERSHIP'S PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING WORK UNDER WARRANTY: REPLACEMENT OF FAILED FRONT END BEARINGS, SEALS, PINIONS AND RELATED COMPONENTS. DEALERSHIP'S POSITION HAS BEEN ONE OF DENIAL AND DISMISSAL OF THE COMPLAINT. CHEVROLET ONLY OFFERS REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS IF THIS BECOMES A RECALL ISSUE. BECAUSE THIS IS A BRAKING ISSUE AND A SAFETY ISSUE NOT ONLY FOR MY FAMILY AND SELF, BUT OTHER MOTORISTS, IT OBVIATES JUSTIFICATION OF RECALL STATUS.
THE ABS SYSTEM ON CHEVY TRUCKS CAN CREATE AN UNSAFE OPERATING CONDITION. DURING A SLOW STOP, BELOW 5MPH, THE ABS ACTIVATES AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO STOP. ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN STOPPING IN PARKING LOTS WHERE PEOPLE MAY BE IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAULT IS CAUSED BY EITHER 1) FAILURE OF WHELL SPEED SENSOR OR 2) RUST BUILD UP ON THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING. THERE ARE NO WARNINGS FROM THE VEHICLE WHEN THE FAULT WILL OCCCUR OR DOES OCCUR. THUS, THERE IS NOT WAY TO ADEQUALTELY PREDICT WHEN TO SERVICE THE SYSTEM AND AVOID THE POTENTIAL FAULT. IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I KNOW THIS BY VISITING THE CHEVYTRUCK.COM FORUMS WHERE MANY PEOPLE ARE DISCUSSING THE ISSUE. MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED NEAR DISASTERS DUE TO THE ISSUE. IN MY OPINION, THERE IS A HIGH PROBABILITY OF SOMEONE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO THIS FAILURE. IF YOU REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OR CLEAN TE MOUNTING FLANGE, YOU MAY RESOLVE THE SHORT TERM PROBLEM. MY ISSUE IS WITH THE DESIGN BECAUSE IF YOU CORRECT THE PROBLEM, YOU HAVE NO WARNING DEVICE TO INFORM YOU WHEN THE FAULT WILL REINITIATE. YOU ONLY LEARN OF THE FAULT WHEN IT ACTUALLY HAPPENS. BY THEN YOU COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURRED OR KILLED SOMEONE. I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE ON 2-25-05. IT IS A PROBLEM ON BOTH OF MY CHEVY TRUCKS. A 99 SUBURBAN AND A 2002 SILVERADO. BOTH HAVE APPROXIMATELY 65,000 MILES.
I RECEIVED TWO NEW TAILGATE CABLE SUPPORTS FROM A DEALER IN ARCADIA, FLORIDA THIS PAST WINTER. I INSTALLED THEM MYSELF ON MY 2002 CHEVY C2500 HD CREW CAB PICKUP. I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THE NEW CABLES ARE NOT MADE FROM STAINLESS STEEL AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE. THIS IS BECAUSE A MAGNET WILL STICK TO THE CABLES, JUST LIKE TO OLD ONES. THE DEALER REALLY HAD NO ANSWER OTHER THAN THE NEW CABLES WERE THE ONES THEY WERE INSTALLING ON EVERYONE'S VEHICLE THAT RESPONDED TO THE RECALL. I KNOW THAT 203 TYPE STAINLESS STEEL HAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF CARBON AND WILL ATTRACT A MAGNET SLIGHTLY, BUT I STILL BELIEVE THE "NEW" CABLES ARE THE SAME AS THE OLD ONES. THANK YOU, GENE FAULCONER. *JB
DT: THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE DYING. ONE OCCURRENCE WAS ON 2-15-05. THE ISSUE WAS COVERED IN RECALL NUMBER 05500. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO BE REPAIRED ON 5-05. ON 8-29-05 THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AGAIN. *JB
DT: 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO. WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE ABS ACTIVATED. THE ABS ACTIVATED ON DRY ROADS AS WELL. SOMETIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE ABS POPPED THE BRAKE PEDAL UP AND THE CONSUMER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK. SOMETIMES THE CONSUMER HAD TO PLACE THE GEAR INTO PARK JUST TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO SAID IT WAS A WHEEL SPEED SENSOR ISSUE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. *JB *TT
MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z-71 TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WITH ONLY 45,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. I HAD IT REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLETS AND GMC TRUCKS.
GM WANTS ME TO PAY FOR A RECALL REPAIR ON MY VEHICLE. *NM
VEHICLE LOST BRAKING POWER DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST BUILDUP ON ALL FOUR ROTORS. THIS SITUATION IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM ACTIVATES. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO RUN INTO THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME THEN AGAIN WHEN I ENDED UP IN THE INTERSECTION. NO ACCIDENTS, BUT A CLOSE CALL. GM WOULD NOT REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY AT 52,000 MILES. I REPAIRED THE VEHICLE MYSELF BUT AM CONCERNED THAT THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. CUSTOMER SERVICE SINCE ADVISED ME THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF ANY RECALL.
DEFECTIVE ABS WHEEL SENSOR CAUSING ABS TO ACTIVATE AT WHEN APPLIES BRAKES AT SLOW SPEEDS. THIS HAS OCCURS DAILY WITH THE VEHICLE CAUSING POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS.
THE GAS PEDDLE GETS STUCK AND DOES NOT PRESS DOWN TO ACCELERATE. I HAVE TO TRY TO MASH DOWN ON THE GAS PEDDLE SEVERAL TIMES FOR IT TO WORK. I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE VALVE CABLE WAS MESSED UP AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THERE WAS CARBON BUILDUP. THE MECHANIC THAT TRIED TO FIX IT SAID HE DRAINED BLACK GUNK OUT OF IT. *JB
THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE SEAT BELTS FAILED. THE RETRACTOR SHEARED OFF WHILE DRIVING. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SEAT BELT RETRACTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE CONSUMERS 2002 CHEVROLET 2500HD HAD SEAT BELT PROBLEMS. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT AS HIS GRANDSON WAS PUTTING ON THE SEAT BELT IT SNAPPED IN HALF.
UPON BRAKING TO A STOP WHEN 5 MPH IS REACHED THE ABS SYSTEM FALSELY ACTIVATES AND PREVENTS THE TRUCK FROM COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS PROBLEM HAS RESULTED IN ONE LOW SPEED COLLISION (<5 MPH) AND NUMEROUS TIMES I HAVE HIT PARKING BARRIERS. I AM TOLD THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM IS TO HAVE THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS REMOVED FROM THE HUB/BEARING ASSEMBLY AND CLEANED. ALSO, GM HAS A TSB OUT ON THIS PROBLEM AND TRANSPORTATION CANADA HAS ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM.*AK
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD... WAS TAKEN IN AND TRANSMISION WAS REBUILT DUE TO UNUSUAL WEAR. LESS THAN 5 MONTHS THE TRANSMISION LOST 2ND GEAR AND REVERSE.
ABS INITATES ON DRY PAVEMENT AS I DECELERATE FROM ABOUT 6 MPH TO ABOUT 3MPH. THIS HAPPENS APPROXIMATELY 50% OF EVERY STOP. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY INCIDENTS, AS I AM THE ONLY DRIVER, AND ALLOW EXTRA DISTANCE. AFTER TALKING WITH 4 CO-WORKERS WHO HAVE/HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, I PULLED THE ABS FUSE AND HAVE NOT COMPLETED A REPAIR YET. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY PROVIDER CLAIMS IT IS A SERVICE CLAIM, WHICH IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL, NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SAYS IT'S RUST BUILD UP UNDER THE SPEED SENSOR, AND NEEDS TO BE CLEANED & RESEATED. I READ ABOUT THIS INVESTIGATION ON MY COMPANY WEBSITE, AND DECIDED TO REGISTER MY PROBLEM TO HELP THE RESEARCH.
2002 CHEVY SILVERADO BRAKES FAILED AT LOW SPEEDS. *TS WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE INSPECTED, HE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS. THE TAILGATE RUSTED AND BROKE. THE STEERING RELAY AND RIGHT FRONT IDLER ARM WERE REPLACED. THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS REPLACED. THE WHEEL CENTER CAP FELL OFF. *JB

BROUGHT VEHICLE IN FOR STATE SAFETY INSPECTION AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND CRACKING TO A POINT WHERE THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED, AS VEHICLE HAD EXCESSIVE VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE BEYOND REPAIR. THE 2002 SILVERADO HAD 10,500 MILES ON IT AND WAS STILL UNDER CHEVROLETS BASIC 3 YEAR 36000 MILE WARRANTY. LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER ADVISED ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SILVERADO SINCE 1998 AND THAT CHEVROLET WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY, AS IT IS A RESULT OF FACTORS BEYOND THEIR CONTROL. LIKE WATER AND SALT ON THE ROADS. *NM
STOPPED VEHICLE ON SLIGHT DOWNWARD GRADED DRIVEWAY. PLACE GEAR SHIFT IN NEUTRAL, STEPPED ON BRAKE PEDAL AND APPLIED "PARKING BRAKE". RELEASED BRAKE PEDAL AND FOUND THAT VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD DOWN DRIVEWAY. TRIED RESETTING PARKING BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT DID NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON KEEPING THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. DEALER ADVISED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND SUGGESTED THAT I CONTACT THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE REP FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
ABS COMING ON AT LOW SPEEDS (UNDER 10 MPH) IN DRY CONDITIONS. THIS STARTED IN JAN. 2005 WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND CONTINUED UNTIL APPROX. LATE MARCH. THIS DID NOT CAUSE ANY ACCIDENTS BUT THERE WERE SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS. I DIDN'T TAKE TO THE CHEVY DEALER TO GET IT LOOKED AT, BUT I DID NOTICE AFTER I WOULD WASH THE TRUCK THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE MUCH BETTER FOR A TIME THEN START UP AGAIN.
MY SON'S 2002 CHEVROLET EXTENDED CAB PU TRUCK WAS STRUCK IN THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR, FORCED OFF THE ROAD, WENT HEAD FIRST THROUGH AN IRON 6' FENCE, DOWN A 7' EMBANKMENT AND STRUCK A STONE PILLAR HEAD ON AND HIS AIR BAD DID NOT DEPLOY. *NM

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, SOME LOUD SOUND. CAN'T GO IN REVSERSE AT ALL. I ONLY HAVE 42000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR CORRECTLY, AND HAS A HARD TIME SHIFTING INTO HIGH GEARS, AND THE RPM STAY HIGH RUNNING IN THE TRUCK. NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. CHEVROLET DEALER THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM CALL THE 800 NUMBER FOR GM AND THEY ARE PAYING FOR THE OVER 3000 PAYMENT FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. SINCE IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKE AT THAT TIME. GIVE ME A BREAK. I OWN A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO. I READ IN THE NEWSPAPER ABOUT AN INVESTIGATION INTO GM PICKUP TRUCK ANTILOCK BRAKES. IT DESCRIBED EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SINCE JAN OF 2005. AT LOW SPEEDS, USUALLY IN PARKING LOTS, MY ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGE EVEN THOUGH THE ROAD CONDITIONS ARE COMPLETELY DRY. THE RESULT IS THAT MY VEHICLE REQUIRES 2-5 FEET MORE DISTANCE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I TOOK MY BRAKES APART TO INSPECT THEM AND CLEAN THEM. I FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF BRAKE PAD LEFT. THE ROTORS LOOKED FINE ALSO. CLEANING THE BRAKES DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT HAS HAPPENED 100+ TIMES SINCE JANUARY. IT IS ALWAYS AT LOW SPEEDS AND THE ROAD CONDITIONS ARE JUST FINE. NONE OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS COME ON INDICATING A PROBLEM. A FEW MONTHS BACK I DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH A FEW COWORKERS AND FOUND THAT 2 OF THEM WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. ONE GUY HAS A 1999 CHEVY PICKUP AND THE OTHER GUY HAS A CHEVY PICKUP BUT I AM UNSURE OF THE MODEL YEAR OF HIS. HOPE THIS HELPS.

WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITION, NO BUMP OR OBSTACLE ON THE ROAD EXHAUST SYSTEM SEPARATED AND DROPPED, BUT STAYED ATTACHED TO ITS STRUCTURE. THE MUFFLER DANGLED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNKNOWN BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WASN'T BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALERSHIP NOR MECHANIC.
THIS CONCERNS THE BRAKE PROBLEM ON GM TRUCKS. MY 2002 SILVERADO'S BRAKING NEVER WAS GREAT, WHEN HARD BRAKING IS APPLIED, THE PEDAL WILL BOTTOM OUT AND YOU HAVE TO PUMP PEDAL TO STOP. NOW THE ABS SYSTEM HAS FAILED AND THE PEDAL HAS LOCKED UP ON ME AT LEAST FOUR TIMES, NEARLY CAUSING ACCIDENTS. I HAD TO PULL ABS FUSE JUST TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT AND BE ABLE TO STOP. THE PEDAL WOULD LOCK UP SO HARD THAT I HAD TO STOMPED IT TO BREAK IT FREE.
A VERY UNNERVING CONDITION IS PRESENT IN OUR 2002 TAHOE. THERE IS A LOOSE/ UNSTABLE FEELING IN THE STEERING WHEN TURNING. MY MECHANIC SAID WE HAVE A WARPED CENTER STEERING SHAFT AND HE CAN NOT REPAIR AS THE PART IS BACK ORDERED BY TENS OF THOUSANDS NATIONWIDE (INDICATING A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE) I HAVE BEEN EXPECTING A RECALL BUT HAVE NOT SEEN ONE. GM HAS NOT REPLIED TO MY INQUIRY.
WENT TO GET MY 2002 SILVERADO STATE INSPECTED AND WAS INFORMED THE E-BRAKE PAD WERE DEFECTIVE. I WENT TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THEM REPAIRED. WENT BACK TO HAVE MY CAR RE-INSPECTED SND WAS INFORMED THAT THIS INSPECTION FACILITY FAILS ANYWHERE FROM 10-15 CHEVROLET VEHICLES A WEEK FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COOPERATE IN THIS MATTER AS THE REPAIRS WERE NOT DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP. I CALLED THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND WAS INFORMED BY THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT PREMATURE E-BRAKE FAILURE IS A "KNOWN ISSUE." I HAVE 1 BRAKE SHOE THAT WAS KEPT DURING THE REPAIR PROCESS.*AK
2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4X4 5.3L TRANSMISSION.SUN GEAR..AT 75000 MILES THE GEAR FAILED IN A PARKING GARAGE WHEN I PARKED MY TRUCK I HAD APPOX.2 FEET BETWEEN MY TRUCK AND THE WALL.WHEN I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE THE TRUCKS FRONT BUMPER WAS TOUCHING THE WALL.THANKFULLY IT WASN'T PARKED SO IT WOULD HAVE ROLLED DOWN THE RAMP. AFTER STARTING MY VEHICLE IT DID NOT HAVE REVERSE AND AFTER GETTING IT OUT OF THE RAMP IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR.I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER THAT I HAD PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM AND HE SAID THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM.ALSO I TALKED TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME TRANSMISSION AND THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. I THENK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE IF I HAD SOMETHING IN TOW OR THE PARKING BRAKE WERE TO FAIL IT COULD POSIBLY INJURE OR KILL SOME ONE IF IT WERE TO ROLL AWAY. I HAD TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND THE TRANSMISSION SHOP SAID THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT GM HAS COME OUT WITH A REVISED PART THAT IS HARDEND.
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGE. THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP COMPLETELY. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDED INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION HUB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *NM THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE FAILURE OF THE FRONT HUBS ON HIS VEHICLE WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND REQUIRES COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF BOTH FRONT HUBS. *TC
