TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED AT ANY SPEED THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A LOUD POPPING, VIBRATION AND CLICKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE OR WHEN THE CONTACT MADE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO BE REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97000.
DRIVING AT 50MPH, TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS TURNING RED,STARTED APPLYING BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN, AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. TRUCK DID NOT WANT TO STOP AT ALL. NO INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED OR WARNING LIGHT. GOT TRUCK BACK HOME AND FLUID WAS POURING OUT FROM UNDER TRUCK. FURTHER INVESTIGATION PROVED RUSTED, BRAKE LINE HAD SPLIT IN TWO. ALL BRAKE LINES ON THIS TRUCK ARE RUSTED OR CORRODED. NO SENSE FOR THESE LINES TO BE LIKE THIS. WONDER WHICH ONE WILL BUST NEXT. GM HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE EXTREME FORCE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE BRAKE LINES, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE GLOW PLUGS AND FUEL INJECTORS FAIL PREMATURELY I WAS TOLD BY THE LOCOL SERVACE MANAGER THAT THERE WAS PLENTY OF TIME TO GET THE REPAIRS BUT A FEW WEEKS LATER WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE SUPPOSED FREE REPAIRS THEY TELL ME THE TIME FOR MINE IS OVER ITS TOO OLD. WHEN NO ONE HAD SHOWED ME A PRINT OUT AND THE COMPANY I BOUT IT FROM NEVER DISCLOSED THE ISSUE. IF THE VEHICLE STALLS IN TRAFFIC IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK TO PICK UP OUR CHRISTMAS TREE AND MY BRAKE LINE BURST AND RAN INTO A DITCH. UPON INSPECTION I NOTICED ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND SINCE I'VE RESEARCHED IT ONLINE IT SEEMS THOUSANDS OF CHEVY TRUCK OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT GM HASN'T ISSUED ANY RECALLS OR INTENDS TO STAND BY THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR
ON THE EVENING OF DECEMBER 23, 2013, WHILE TRAVELLING ON A CONNECTICUT STATE ROAD, I APPLIED MY BRAKES, AS A VEHICLE WAS TURNING LEFT AHEAD OF ME. THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT IMMEDIATELY TO THE FLOOR. I REALIZED A BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. I WAS ABOUT A MILE FROM THE AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR FACILITY THAT I UTILIZE. I WAS ABLE TO NURSE THE VEHICLE THERE, WHERE IT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REPAIRED (BRAKE LINE REPLACED). IN THE PAST, I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED, BUT THAT DEALERSHIP WAS ONE OF MANY CLOSED DOWN BY GM. THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, IN ANY DIRECTION IS ABOUT 20 MILES. FORTUNATELY I HAVE FOUND AN OUTSTANDING LOCAL INDEPENDENT AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR FACILITY. *TR
BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, APPLIED BRAKES, NOTHING HAPPENED. BUMPED INTO SMALL RETAINING WALL. A TRAIL OF FLUID LED TO AN INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE LINES, ONE OF WHICH RUPTURED. ALL OTHERS WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND CORRODED AND LOOKED READY TO BREAK AT ANY TIME. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS TYPE OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. DOES NOT LEAD TO A RECALL. *TR
ON DECEMBER 19TH 2013 WAS AT A CLASS FOR WORK ABOUT 65 MILES FROM HOME, WHEN CAME OUT OF CLASS AND TRUCK WOULD NOT START KEEP GETTING SECURITY LIGHT FLASHING IN THE INFORMATION WINDOW. LATER FOUND OUT THIS CUT THE GAS OF FROM SOMEONE STEALING THE VEHICLE, BUT I HAD THE ORIGINAL KEY TO THE TRUCK. HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO MY HOME 65 MILES AWAY. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE TRUCK FOR ME AND SAID HE BELIEVED HE HAD FIXED IT BY REPLACING THE IGNITION WIRING HARNESS. TRUCK WORKED GREAT UNTIL RECENT I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH AND THE KEY TO THE VEHICLE FELL OUT OF THE IGNITION ONTO THE FLOOR, LUCKY FOR ME THE VEHICLE STAYED RUNNING. I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN LOOKING AT THE IGNITION AND HAVE FOUND THAT ANY POSITION THAT THE KEY IS IN RATHER IT BE RUNNING OR AUXILIARY THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. ALSO THE TRUCK IS BACK TO SHOWING THE SECURITY LIGHT FLASHING IN THE INFORMATION CENTER AND TRUCK WILL NOT START. I HAVE TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION AND WAIT 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE TRUCK WILL START. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH CHEVY!!!!!!! *TR
BRAKES TOTALLY FAILED WHEN TRYING TO STOP. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MECHANIC. TOLD THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE TOTALLY RUSTED OUT. ALL EIGHT LINES WILL HAVE TO BE TOTALLY REPLACED IN ORDER TO FUNCTION. THEY HAD NEVER SEEN A VEHICLE WITH SUCH PROBLEMS. SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. *TR
MY VEHICLE WAS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE AS I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT AND ENTERING A HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY TRAVELING ABOUT 5 MPH. I APPLIED THE BRAKE BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. I THEN PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET AND THERE WAS A NOISE AND THEN THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM STARTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS JUST ABLE TO STOP BEFORE ROLLING OUT ONTO A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I TOOK THE PICK-UP TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT CHECKED OUT. AFTER SEVERAL PEOPLE DROVE IT, IT WAS DETERMINED THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE OWNED THIS PICK-UP SINCE THE FALL OF 2001 PURCHASING IT NEW. THIS PICK-UP MAY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS BRAKES. I HAVE DRIVEN ALL 113,563 MILES IN THIS TRUCK AND I KNOW THE VEHICLE. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR
WAS DRIVING AND BRAKE LINE "BURST" CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE AND WRECK INTO TREE. *TR
COMING HOME WITH A SMALL LOAD OF LUMBER FOR A WOODWORKING PROJECT, THE "CHANGE OIL LITE" CAME ON. UPON RETURNING HOME AND UNLOADED THE LUMBER, BACKED THE TRUCK INTO THE GARAGE TO CHANGE THE OIL-- THE PICKUP DIDN'T STOP. HE CRAWLED UNDER THE PICK UP TO FIND FLUID ON THE GARAGE FLOOR AND THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED, CORRODED AND ONE BRAKE LINE SPLIT AND LEAKING. FORTUNATELY WE WERE NOT TRAVELING WHEN THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET C1500 2WD. THE CONTACT WAS COASTING AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT THE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AS THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND IT WAS DETERMINED ALL FOUR BRAKE LINES WEE SEVERELY RUSTED AND CORRODED.. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000...UPDATED 12-23-13 *BF
HAD JUST EXITED THE FREEWAY AND CORRODED BRAKE LINE BROKE. LIVED AT THE END OF THE ROAD SO WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SLOW TO AT LEAST GET IT HOME USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. EXAMINED ALL BRAKE LINES AND ALL ARE SO CORRODED THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED. WAS LUCKY IT DIDN'T BREAK AWAY WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. CHEVY TRYIN TO KILL THEIR CUSTOMERS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 9 MPH, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ERRONEOUSLY ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000(SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
STARTED TRUCK TO HOOK UP TO A TRAILER AT HOME. BACKING UP, AND DEPRESSED BRAKES WHILE BACKING, SUDDENLY LOST ALL BRAKE CONTROL. I HAD NO CONTROL TO STOP VEHICLE. VEHICLE ROLLED TO A STOP WHILE I PRESSED AND PUMPED BRAKES WITH NO AFFECT. *TR ROLLED TO STOP. I THEN PLACED VEHICLE IN PARK AND EXITED TO FIND BRAKE FLUID ON GROUND. I THEN TRIED TO SLOWLY MOVE VEHICLE INTO GARAGE SO AS TO RAISE JACK UP- FOR A FURTHER EXAMINATION, BUT I HAD ZERO CONTROL OVER BRAKING. IN ORDER TO GET VEHICLE ONTO CONCRETE SURFACE/GARAGE I HAD TO SHIFT BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN NEUTRAL AND DRIVE UNTIL I LIMP THE TRUCK INTO GARAGE BUT DO SO WITHOUT RAMMING THROUGH THE BACK WALL AS I HAD NO CONTROL OVER BRAKES. ONCE IN, I JACKED UP TRUCK AND I FOUND ONE LEAK IN ONE RUSTED METAL BRAKE LINE AT A BEND CLOSEST TO LEFT REAR WHEEL. SUDDEN AND TOTAL AND COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES. *TR
HAD TO GET ON THE BRAKES PRETTY HARD, THE LINE UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR BURST DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE JUST COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, I HAVE REPLACED EVERYTHING & 1 YEAR LATER AND 25,000 MILES LATER & 5 ACCIDENTS THE VEHICLE STILL DOES IT NOW IT WONT EVEN START. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RE-CALL ON THIS I'VE READ THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON IN THIS VEHICLE AND THERE ARE VARIOUS RECALLS ON THE WIRING HARNESS, TRANSMISSION, FUEL LINE, FILTER, HEADLIGHTS, TOWING PACKAGE, BRAKE SYSTEM, BRAKE LIGHTS, BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS. EVERYBODY WHO IS EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I JUST PURCHASED MY TRUCK IN JUNE FROM A PREVIOUS OWNER IN SOUTH FLORIDA. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE TRUCK HAS BEEN IN FLORIDA SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2013, I WAS FORCED TO BRAKE HEAVILY AT AN INTERSECTION. I FELT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AND THE TRUCK STOPPED. I PROCEEDED TO THE NEXT INTERSECTION AND WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 50MPH. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I IMMEDIATELY DOWN SHIFTED IN AN ATTEMPT TO SLOW DOWN. LUCKILY, THERE WERE NO VEHICLES IN THE RIGHT TURN LANE SO I MADE A VERY DANGEROUS RIGHT TURN NEARLY STRIKING VEHICLES IN ANOTHER LANE. I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AGAIN AND ONLY THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE WOULD LOCK UP. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND DISTANCE. I THOUGHT THE MASTER CYLINDER WENT OUT BUT UPON FURTHER INSPECTION. A BRAKE LINE HAS SPLIT AND IS EXPELLING BRAKE FLUID. THE LOCATION OF THE HOLE IS WHERE THE BRAKE LINE PASSES DIRECTLY BELOW THE DRIVER'S DOOR BEFORE THE CONNECTION TO THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. HOW IS THIS NOT A RECALL. I COULD HAVE KILLED MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED WHERE THERE IS NO BRAKES AT ALL. *TR

BRAKE FAILURE RESULTING IN ACCIDENT DUE TO RUSTED STEEL LINE AND LOOSE (STRETCHED) PARKING BRAKE CABLE. RESIDENTIAL DRIVING UNDER 25 MILES AN HOUR I APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. APPLIED PRESSURE TO BRAKE WITH ABOUT 100 FEET FROM LIGHT. BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR. IMMEDIATELY I APPLIED PARKING BRAKE. VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND TO BOTH ACTIONS. THE TRUCK ROLLED THROUGH THE STOP LIGHT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. MAIN LINE FEEDING REAR BRAKES ABRUPTLY FAILED CAUSING PERSONAL AND PROPERTY DAMAGES. AFTER HAVING THE BRAKES SERVICED AND FIXED, AND THINKING THAT THE TRUCK WAS SAFE, THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. BOTH STEERING AND BRAKING WERE NON RESPONSIVE. HAD I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, THE HIGHWAY GAVE ME AMPLE TIME TO SLOW DOWN AND GET MY FAMILY TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED AND DIAGNOSED. A NEW POWER STEERING PUMP WAS PUT IN. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK WITH MY FAMILY IN IT. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO BRAKE NEXT. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING AT 30 TO 35 MILES PER HOUR AND A SCHOOL BUS STOPPED TO DROP KIDS RED LIGHTS FLASHING. I APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE ONLY TO HAVE THE BRAKE PEDAL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD. LUCKY TIMING I WAS FIRST IN LINE AND RAN INTO GRASS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE ANY CHILDREN HAD DISEMBARKED. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED AND CAUSED A FLUID LEAK. *TR
AFTER DROPPING OFF A BOAT FOR WINTER STORAGE, I WAS LEAVING THE STORAGE LOCATION AND ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO TAKE A VERY SLOW ROUTE HOME AS THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUED TO DROP TO THE FLOOR ANYTIME THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. IN A COUPLE OF INSTANCES WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED HARD, THE ABS SYSTEM DID ACTIVATE. FINALLY HAD A CHANCE TO PULL THIS VEHICLE INTO MY GARAGE FOR EXAMINATION ON 11/8/13 AND FOUND THE BRAKE LINES UNDER THE DRIVERS' FLOORBOARD AT THE FRAME-RAIL EXTREMELY CORRODED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE OF ONE OF THE FIVE LINES. THE OTHERS ARE MOST CERTAINLY NOT FAR BEHIND. THIS VEHICLE IS MAINLY USED IN THE WINTER MONTHS. I AM GRATEFUL THAT THE PROBLEM SURFACED NOW BEFORE THE SNOWMOBILE SEASON WHEN I AM HAULING A 24 FOOT TRAILER WITH FOUR PASSENGERS AND FOUR SNOWMOBILES ON ROADS THAT ARE NOT IN THE BEST SHAPE TO BEGIN WITH. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD SITUATION TO SAY THE LEAST! GM NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE - THESE OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT ISOLATED INCIDENTS. *** PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE HAS YET TO BE A SINGLE WARNING LAMP TO COME ON AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES AT LEAST TWENTY FIVE TIMES - NO MIL, NO BRAKE, NOTHING! *** I WILL BE TAKING A COMPLETE SERIES OF PICTURES OF THE CONDITION OF THESE LINES BEFORE THE REPAIRS ARE PERFORMED IF THEY ARE NEEDED FOR THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE- RUPTURED BRAKE LINE UNDER DRIVER DOOR SIDE. FORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP MY TRUCK USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE.THE WEEK BEFORE I HAD MY ABS SENSORS ON THE FRONT WHEELS REPLACED BECAUSE THE TRUCK WOULD SOMETIMES NOT STOP AT A SLOW SPEED. I AM HAPPY THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE I WAS TOWING MY TRAILER. RUPTURE OF THIS LINE CAUSED A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WITH NO WARNING UNTIL AFTER THE INCIDENT( WHEN ALL THE FLUID WAS GONE}. *TR
DRIVING ON ROADWAY AND HIT A CONCRETE MAIL BOX AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY HAD SURGERY ON MY LEFT ARM BROKEN LEFT LEG FIBULA HAD A BOWEL BLOCKAGE HIT A ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTION MAIL BOX MADE OF CONCRETE BLOCKS AND REBAR AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY
DRIVING THROUGH HEAVY TRAFFIC ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY DOING APPROX 45 MPH TRAFFIC WAS STARTING AND STOPPING FREQUENTLY WHEN THE TRAFFIC CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP I PUT ON MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WTH NO WARNING WHAT SO EVER AND I STRUCK THE REAR OF ONE VEHICLE , AND THAT DRIVER HAD INJURIES WHICH I DO NOT KNOW THE FULL EXTENT OF. AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE BODY SHOP WHICH I HAD $3,252 OF DAMAGE THE VEHICLE IS REPAIRED HOWEVER IN THE PROCESS OF THIS THEY NOTICED I STILL DO NOT HAVE BRAKES AND AFTER THE MECHANIC INVESTIGATED IT IT WAS NOTICED A BRAKE LINE CORRODED THROUGH CAUSING MY BRAKE FAILURE AND ALL MY BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF A MINIMUM OF $1600.00 BUT PROBABLY CLOSERT TO $2000.00 I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FROM NEW AND FIND IT HARD TO FATHOM THAT GM DOES NOTHING FOR SAFETY WITH AN ISSUE AS THIS. THIS VEHICLE HAS 128,000 MILES ON IT AND BEEN MAINTAINED WITH CARE AND HARDLY DRIVEN IN WINTER MONTHS SINCE I HAVE HAD OTHER VEHICLES FOR MY WORK FOR THE LAST 9 YEARS SO ROAD SALTS MAY EFFECT IT BUT THIS VEHICLE DID NOT SEE DAILY USE FOR YEARS. THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH A LONG TIME AGO. I QUESS IT WILL TAKE INCIDENTS LIKE MINE FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE, I AM JUST THANKFUL NO ONE WAS KILLED, WHICH EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW WITH NO BRAKES SOME ONE IS BOUND TO IF THIS DOES NOT GET RESOLVED. *TR
LEFT REAR STEEL BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT. UPON INSPECTION, BRAKE LINE WAS FOUND RUSTED WITH A 1/16 INCH HOLE ON THE 3/16 INCH TUBING. *TR
NOTICED BRAKE FLUID WAS LOW. COULD NOT FIND ANY LEAKS, WHILE BACKING TRUCK UP, I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT CLEAR TO THE FLOOR. I USED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP MY TRUCK. I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK AND BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING FROM THE REAR AXLE. I INVESTIGATED THE BRAKE LINES AND FOUND THEM TO BE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND CORRODED. I WAS JUST LUCKY THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A CERTAIN COLLISION CAUSING INJURIES OR DEATH. *TR
TRIED TO MAKE A SLIGHTLY ABRUPT STOP AT 50 MPH,FELT A LITTLE ABS PULSE THEN PEDAL BEGAN TO SINK TO THE FLOOR. PUMPED PEDAL, I THEN GOT A LITTLE BRAKE PRESSURE AND SLOWED A LITTLE. TURNED TOWARDS THE SHOULDER AND USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW TRUCK DOWN TO A LONG EVENTUAL STOP. THEN TOWED. *TR
4 OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BROKE. I NOW SMELL EXHAUST FUMES IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE ABS ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY AND PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE, THEY COME IN TO TELL ME, HEY, YOUR BRAKE LINE BLEW. I WENT DOWN TO CHECK IT OUT, THE LINES ARE PRETTY SEVERELY RUSTED, AND SURE ENOUGH BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT ONE OF THEM. BRAKES GO TOTALLY TO THE FLOOR, ABSOLUTE MINIMAL BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE. GOES RIGHT TO FLOOR EVERY TIME. IT DOESN'T COUNTERACT THE LOSS OF PRESSURE BY ALLOWING THE BACK BRAKE PRESSURE TO STILL WORK (THE FRONT LINE WAS THE LEAKER) LIKE GM SAYS THEY SHOULD. NO BRAKING AT ALL. HAD TO DRIVE IT HOME WITH E BRAKE, AND REPLACE ALL CORRODED BRAKE LINES. I'VE HEARD OF LOTS OF OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, GM BRAKE LINES AREN'T UP TO PAR. *TR

THE TRUCK WAS HOOKED TO A 25' GOOSENECK TRAILER LOADED WITH HAY. THE ENGINE WAS THE DURAMAX DIESEL WITH ALLISON TRANSMISSION. THE INTENT WAS TO HAUL HAY FROM EASTERN WASHINGTON TO WESTERN WASHINGTON. THE POWER STEERING PUMP BROKE A SHAFT INSIDE THE PUMP MAKING THE POWER STEERING UNUSABLE. AS IT TURNS OUT THE POWER STEERING PUMP ALSO SERVES AS THE POWER BRAKE ASSIST. AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 3 MPH, IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO BRAKE THE TRUCK BUT WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEELS. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAPPENED IN THE FARMERS FIELD AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE PUMP QUIT WORKING, THE TRUCK WOULD HAVE GONE OFF OF THE ROADWAY, MOST LIKELY OVER A STEEP CLIFF BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO STEER THE TRUCK OR STOP IT DUE TO THE SINGLE PUMP FAILURE. ADDITIONALLY, THE LOAD OF HAY WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE TRUCK TO PICK UP SPEED IF IT WAS GOING DOWN HILL. *TR
WHEN I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, AS I BACKED UP IN MY DRIVEWAY, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOORBOARDS. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK SAW A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID. A CLOSER VISUAL INSPECTION REVEALED A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE FEEDING THE REAR WHEELS (NEXT TO THE FUEL TANK). I INSPECTED THE REMAINING LINES AND ALL APPEAR SERIOUSLY DETERIORATED. I WILL NEED TO HAVE ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT I HAD NOT LEFT THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THIS BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE OCCURRED. AND, JUST AS A SIDE NOTE, THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK, PARTICULARLY THE CROSS PIECES HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE AND BRACKET FOR THE SHOCK ABSORBER, HAVE RUSTED TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT IT WILL HAVE TO REINFORCED/REPLACED. CORROSION THIS SEVERE COULD BE EXPECTED OF THE SHEET METAL, BUT NOT THE FRAME.
WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL TRAFFIC, I WAS PREPARING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT WITH VEHICLES AHEAD OF ME. UPON APPLYING BRAKES FROM APPROX 30 MPH, I WAS ABLE TO BRAKE LIKE NORMAL, UNTIL APPROX 5-10 MPH, WHEN THE ABS KICKED ON FOR NO REASON, SENDING MY TRUCK WITHIN INCHES FROM STRIKING ANOTHER MOTORIST IN FRONT OF ME. IT CONTINUED TO DO THIS FOR ABOUT 3 MILES UNTIL I ARRIVED HOME.
WHEN I STARTED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY & HIT THE BRAKES, THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR. EMERGENCY BRAKE SLOWED, BUT WOULD NOT STOP. BRAKE LINES BEHIND LEFT FRONT WHEEL ON TOP OF FRAME HAD HOLE(S) RUSTED IN THEM & FLUID RUNNING OUT. EMERGENCY BRAKE WOULD NOT WORK PROPERLY BECAUSE OF LEAKING RIGHT REAR WHEEL SEAL THAT HAD GREASED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOES. TRUCK HAD TO BE HAULED TO A GARAGE, WHERE IT IS NOW. *TR
WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO CHANGE DIRECTION AND GO FORWARD. I HEARD A SUDDEN HISSING NOISE THROUGH THE OPEN DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, BOTTOMING OUT. UPON INVESTIGATION I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID COMING FROM RUSTED BRAKE LINES BEHIND THE LEFT SIDE FRONT WHEEL. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL BOTTOMED, IT DIDN'T APPEAR THAT I HAD ANY BRAKE ACTION AT ALL. VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE BEEN IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION OR OTHER DANGEROUS LOCATION. *TR
WANT 1600 DOLLARS TO REPLACE EVERY LINE ON THE TRUCK DUE TO RUST...INCLUDING FLEXIBLE HOSE TO WHEELS. DON'T HAVE VIN NO TRUCK AT SHOP UNTIL I DECIDE WHAT TO DO. *TR

THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME WAS A SIMILAR SITUATION AND I GOT THAT PART FIXED AND I WAS INFORMED THAT OTHER LINES WERE FINE BUT AFTER LAST WINTER AND THE TRUCK BEING PARKED OUTSIDE FOR THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE A LOT OF MILES ON IT AND EVEN THOUGH I LIVE IN A STATE THAT USES SALT IN THE WINTER THIS TRUCK WAS NEVER DRIVEN IN THE WINTER AND PARKED IN A GARAGE AND ONLY DRIVEN IN THE SUMMER MONTHS WHICH IS WHY THE MILES ARE SO LOW AND WHY I PURCHASED IT FROM A PRIVATE OWNER. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE BRAKE LINES ARE EXTREMELY RUSTED NOW AND LEAKING AND I CANNOT EVEN AFFORD THE COST AT THIS TIME TO GET THIS FIXED DUE TO HAVING MY HOURS AT WORK LOWERED TO 5 A DAY. *TR

HAVING TO REPLACE THEM WHEN THE MILES ARE THIS LOW , GM SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THIS POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP. MY BROTHER JUST HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON HIS 2003 SILVERADO. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FROM GM. THIS COMPLAINT RELATES TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA11001 REGARDING CORRODED BRAKE LINES ON CHEVY TRUCKS. I WAS COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT, SOME CARS AHEAD OF ME, GOING ABOUT 30 MPH. I APPLIED THE BRAKES. INITIAL PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL FELT NORMAL, THEN THE PEDAL RESISTANCE DROPPED TO ZERO. BY PUSHING THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I PULLED IN TO A GAS STATION. BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING OUT OF A LOCATION ALONG THE BRAKE LINE RUNNING TO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. LOCATION ABOUT WHERE THE CAB AND BED MEET. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SLOWLY TO A NEARBY CHEVY DEALER FOR REPAIRS. TOTAL REPAIR BILL WAS $2200. *TR
