2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD BRAKES FAILED DUE TO RUSTED STEEL BRAKE LINE. RUST OF COMPONENT WAS LOCATED UNDER DRIVER DOOR. CURRENTLY HAVING TROUBLE FINDING MANUFACTURER REPLACEMENT PART. LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO BEND MY OWN LINE. THE TRUCK HAS 40,000 MILES AND LOCATED IN TENNESSEE. THE TRUCK IS MAINLY USED ON A FARM AND HAS NOT BEEN ON SALTY ROADS TO A GREAT EXTENT. FORTUNATELY THE INCIDENT WAS WHILE USING THE TRUCK ON THE FARM SO THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OR BODILY HARM. I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. IN 2010 I HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS BECAUSE OF RUST. THE REAREND IS ALSO RUSTED ON THE TRUCK - SPRINGS, CARRIAGE, REAREND. *TR

2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL PROBLEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED GM ACKNOWLEDGED A POSSIBLE DEFECT WITH THE 2003 MODELS, BUT NOT HIS MODEL YEAR. *JB
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. CONSUMER STATES GAUGES STOPPED WORKING AND THE BOLTS ON THE MANIFOLD WERE DEFECTIVE. *TGW
WELL I BOUGHT THE 2004 SILVERADO TRUCK IN JUNE OF 2011 AND I NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER STUTTER A LITTLE BIT GOING EACH WAY. THEN JUST RECENTLY I EXPERIENCED THE SPEEDOMETER JUST STOP WORKING BY GETTING STUCK AT 30MPH. I PULLED OVER THE TRUCK AND TURNED IT OF TO MAYBE RESET THE SYSTEM BUT EVEN WITH THE TRUCKED TURNED OFF THE SPEEDOMETER WAS STILL AT 30MPH. I TRIED HITTING THE DASH A COUPLE OF TIMES TO SEE IF THAT WOULD WORK. IT DIDN'T WORK SO I TRIED DRIVING SOME MORE AND THE SPEEDOMETER SAID I WAS DOING 90MPH WHEN I WAS ONLY GOING 65MPH BECAUSE I HAD ANOTHER PERSON ON THE ROAD TELL ME THEY WERE GOING 65PMH. I EVEN TRIED TO HIT THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET THE NEEDLE TO DROP BELOW 30MPH. IT PARTICIALLY WORKED BY MAKING IT GO DOWN BUT THEN IT GOT STUCK AT 10MPH EVEN WITH THE TRUCK TURNED OFF. SO I CAME HOME AND CHECKED THE RECALLS FOR MY MODEL TRUCK AND YEAR AND APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT ONLY FOR VEHICLES UNDER 70000 MILES WHICH I THINK ISN'T RIGHT BECAUSE ITS A FAILURE WITH YOUR ELECTRICAL CLUSTERS THAT YOU KNOW IS THERE BUT WONT FIX WHICH MAKES IT NOT LOOK GOOD FOR YOU DESIGNERS. I AM A DIESEL MECHANIC AND I WOULD TELL PEOPLE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4 WHEEL DRIVE. ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES WHEN COMING TO A NORMAL STOP AT ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR. THIS CAUSES THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PUSH BACK YOUR FOOT BACK AND THE BRAKES TO RELEASE SLIGHTLY. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN TO EXPECT IT. NO ACCIDENTS YET, BUT I CAN SEE WHERE THIS COULD CAUSE MANY. THERE ARE ALSO NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET WHERE OTHER DRIVERS OF LIKE GM OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER AT TIMES DOESN'T WORK OR IS WAY PAST 120MPH WHEN GOING ANY SPEED. WHEN GOING 30 MPH SHOWS 80MPH OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND. YOU NEVER KNOW HOW IT WILL WORK. *KB
I OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. IT HAS A BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 12,000,000 GM VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM. WHY HASN'T THE NHTSA ISSUED A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES? IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE EPA WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT AS THE BROKEN BOLT IS ALLOWING EXHAUST INTO THE AIR WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE CONVERTER. I DON'T KNOW AT WHAT MILEAGE THE BOLT BROKE OR AT WHAT SPEED I WAS GOING WHEN IT HAPPENED. *TR
FOR NO APPARENT REASON SYSTEM JUST FAILED AND FOR THE COST OF THE VEHICLE THAT IS TERRIBLE. *TT
WHILE STOPPING FOR TRAFFIC, BRAKE PEDAL ON MY FATHER'S TRUCK WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN, NEARLY CAUSING ME TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. LIMPED THE TRUCK HOME USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. ONCE HOME, NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING UNDER TRUCK. UPON INSPECTION, DISCOVERED BRAKE LINE FROM ABS MODULE TO PS FRONT WHEEL WAS ROTTED THROUGH. NOTICED OTHER BRAKES LINES HAD SIGNIFICANT SURFACE RUST. REPAIRED LINE THAT RUPTURED. ON 08/19/2012 WHILE SLOWING FOR AN INTERSECTION THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN AGAIN. LIMPED IT HOME AGAIN AND DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING UNDER TWO AREAS OF THE TRUCK. LINE THAT GOES FROM ABS MODULE TO REAR AXLE IS ROTTED THROUGH AND ANOTHER LINE FROM ABS MODULE TO FRONT AXLE IS ROTTED THROUGH. ALL THE METAL BRAKE LINES ALONG THE FRAME HAVE SEVERE RUST ON THEM. WILL NEED TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE HARD LINES FOR TRUCK TO BE SAFE. *TR
BRAKE LINE BURST AND WE LOST OUR BRAKES! SLOW SPEED AND RURAL LOCATION SO WE WERE ABLE TO STOP BY STEERING OFF-ROAD AND INTO SOME BUSHES. INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES AND FOUND A LEAK IN THE STEEL LINE GOING TO THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE. THE BRAKE LINE HAD EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON IT AS WELL AS CORROSION ON ADJACENT LINES. THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE ISSUE, STEEL BRAKE LINES IN THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY DO NOT RUST OUT AT 67,606 MILES... EXCEPT ON THIS TRUCK. SHAMEFUL DESIGN AND POOR MATERIALS ARE THE CAUSE. SOMEBODY COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR KILLED!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2004 CHEVROLET 2500 HD.THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE SHOCK MOUNT FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC ATTEMPTED TO ORDER THE PART FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE AXLE WOULD NEED TO BE PURCHASED AND REPLACED BECAUSE THE PART WAS NOT SOLD SEPARATELY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
DRIVERS SIDE AC RANDOMLY BLOWS HOT AIR IN MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. IF IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED COLD AIR BLOWS AGAIN. *KB
2004 CHEVORLET SILVERADO. UNIT #1 WAS TRAVELING WEST IN THE CENTER LANE ON IR80, OHIO TURNPIKE. UNIT #1 LEFT REAR TRAILER TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TRAILER LEFT FENDER. *LN NO TRAILER INFORMATION WAS GIVEN. THE VIN IS INVALID. (OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT # 10-0422-91)*JB
I EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE IN MY 2004 SILVERADO WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT. FORTUNATELY, TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I WAS ABLE TO DOWNSHIFT, USE THE EBRAKE TO COME TO A HALT AND GATHER MY WITS. THERE WAS NO WARNING UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR THEN THE WARNING LIGHT AND AUDIO INDICATOR CAME ON. I NURSED THE TRUCK HOME DRIVING SLOWLY AND USING THE EBRAKE. UPON ARRIVING AT HOME AND PERFORMING AN INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM I DISCOVERED A SEVERELY RUSTED/CORRODED THROUGH BRAKE PIPE DIRECTLY BELOW THE PROPORTIONAL MANIFOLD LEADING TO THE ABS UNIT. ABSOLUTELY NO REDUNDANCY HERE, TOTAL FAILURE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM, I DISCOVERED AN UNACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF RUST/CORROSION ON BRAKE PIPES. THE CORROSION ALSO APPEARS ON OTHER LINES AS WELL AS THE WHOLE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK. I AM APPALLED THAT GM DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL ON THIS VERY SERIOUS DEFECT THAT IS LIFE THREATENING BUT DOES HAVE RECALLS ON PARTS THAT ARE NOT LIFE THREATENING SUCH AS LIGHTS OR TAIL GATE CABLES. I HAVE NEVER HAD A FAILURE SUCH AS THIS IN THIS NEW OF A VEHICLE IN MY 50 PLUS YEARS OF DRIVING, EVEN IN MICHIGAN. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO RECTIFY THIS SERIOUS DEFECT. I PLAN ON REPLACING THE ENTIRE BRAKE PIPE AND LINES WITH A STAINLESS STEEL SYSTEM. I AM SURE MOST OTHER GM OWNERS ARE UNAWARE OF THIS DEFECT AS I WAS AND HAVING THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT DEFINITELY IS NOT THE WAY TO FIND OUT ABOUT IT. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH, THE CLUTCH DROPPED TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT AND HAULED THE VEHICLE HOME WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT A NEW CLUTCH ASSEMBLY BE ORDERED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WAS MANUFACTURER OUT OF PLASTIC AND NOT METAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
2004 CHEVROLET 2500 CREW CAB TRUCK BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES NOT WEARING EVENLY AND EVENTUAL LOSS OF BRAKING. TOOK TRUCK TO ORIGINAL DEALER FOR SERVICING TO FIND OUT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND FLUID LEAKING FROM THE RUSTED AREAS. WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT IT WAS NOT COST EFFECTIVE TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE CUSTOM FIT. WE ALSO HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET 1500 EXTENDED CAB THAT HAS DOUBLE THE MILEAGE OF THE 2004 AND IS STILL WORKING PERFECTLY, NO RUSTED LINES. *TR
RECKLESS DRIVING - I WAS DRIVEN OFF THE ROAD ON PURPOSE BY AN AGGRESSIVE DRIVER. IT WAS A CAR AND A HALF IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER WHEN I YIELDED TO THE CAR ON MY LEFT PRIOR TO CONDENSING INTO ONE LANE. THE VEHICLE BEHIND US SPEED UP TO BLOCK ME FROM MERGING AND DROVE ME ONTO THE SHOULDER. HE WAS DRIVING AN OLSON CONSTRUCTION VEHICLE WITH MISSOURI PLATES [XXX]. LOOKED LIKE HE WAS IN HIS 40'S AND HAD BLOND HAIR WITH TATTOOS. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
I WAS UNLOADING MULCH FROM THE BED OF TRUCK ONTO THE FLOWER BEDS IN MY YARD. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO THE TRUCK TO MOVE TO A NEW SPOT EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL I WENT TO STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK WAS ONLY AT AN IDLE BUT THE BRAKE WOULDN'T EVEN SLOW IT DOWN TO A WALKING SPEED. THE PARKING BRAKE WORKED FINE AND THE TRUCK CAME TO A STOP. I PUT THE REST OF THE MULCHING JOB ON HOLD UNTIL THE NEXT DAY UNTIL I COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT. THE NEXT DAY I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AND ADDED ALMOST A QUART. WHEN I WENT TO MOVE THE TRUCK THE BRAKE STILL WENT TO THE FLOOR BUT I WAS READY FOR THAT AND GOT THE TRUCK OFF OF THE GRASS AND BACK OUT ONTO THE DRIVEWAY. THAT WAS WHEN I SAW JUST HOW BAD IT WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AND THE TRUCK IS STILL HERE AT MY HOUSE. I GUESS I WILL HAVE IT TOWED SOMEWHERE TO HAVE THE BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS DOWN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TRUCK TO THE REAR WHEELS REPLACED. *TR
WE HAD RECEIVED A LETTER FOR CHEVROLET ABOUT A RECALL THE MILEAGE ON IT WAS UP TO 150 THOUSAND BUT THE TRUCK THEN WAS JUST ABOUT 6000 NOTHING WAS WRONG 5/18/2013 THE DASH GAUGES WENT OUT THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER FAILED FIRST AT ABOUT 79000 BUT NOW ALL THE DASH GAUGES DID NOT WORK. WE LOVE OUR 200 SILVERADO TRUCK BUT HAVE KNOW WAY TO FIX IT. LOST THE LETTER PLEASE SEND US ONE BECAUSE THE DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO FIX IT FOR US. HELP!!!! *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED COOLANT IN THE HEAD OF THE ENGINE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HAD TO REFILL THE RADIATOR WITH COOLANT IN SHORT INTERVALS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN ACTING ERRATICALLY. FROM 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET, THE INDICATED SPEED BEGAN TO RISE UNTIL THE INDICATOR NEEDLE HIT THE STOP ABOVE 120 MPH. WHEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE THE SPEEDOMETER STILL READ OVER 50 MPH. AFTER TURNING OFF THE IGNITION, AND THEN RESTARTING THE CAR, THE INDICATOR NEEDLE GRADUALLY WORKED ITS WAY BACK TO THE RIGHT INDICATION. THIS PROBLEM RECURS DAILY AND CREATES A HAZARD, BECAUSE I HAVE NO REAL INDICATION OF MY SPEED, AS WELL AS THE DISTRACTION OF HAVING TO THINK ABOUT WHETHER MY INDICATED SPEED IS ACCURATE. *TR
BRAKE ROTORS DETERIORATED TO PUT THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED, COULD NOT BE RESURFACED. FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEM. SEEMS TO ME GM HAS USED INFERIOR METAL. TRUCK IS USED ONLY FOR OCCASIONAL HAULING. TRUCK IS 2 WHEEL DRIVE - NO OFF ROADING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CRASHED INTO A PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE REAR PASSENGER SUSTAINED A MINOR INJURY TO THE NECK. IN ADDITION, THE OTHER VEHICLE DRIVER SUFFERED A NECK INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
MY WIFE AND I WERE TRAVELING DOWN A STEEP HILL WITH A STOP SIGN AT THE BOTTOM. I PROCEEDED TO BEGIN PUMPING THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN, AS I WAS PUMPING THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL KEPT GOING DOWN FURTHER AND FURTHER TO THE FLOOR. IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND A RED WARNING LIGHT CAME ON TELLING ME TO SERVICE THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AT THE LAST MINUTE TO COME TO A COMPLETE HALT. I GOT OUT AND NOTICED SOME OIL ON THE PAVEMENT THAT TURNED OUT TO BE BRAKE FLUID. I STOPPED AT AN AUTO PLACE AND BOUGHT A LARGE BOTTLE OF BRAKE FLUID TO FILL THE MASTER CYLINDER. I THEN STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND COULD SEE THE FLUID SPEWING OUT OF ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES. THE BRAKE LINES ARE VERY BADLY CORRODED. I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO MY NEIGHBORHOOD MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME THAT ANOTHER CHEVY TRUCK WAS THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS NEAR MISS TRULY SCARED BOTH ME AND MY WIFE AND WE WERE BOTH GRATEFUL WE DIDN'T HAVE A SERIOUS CRASH. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT A CHEVY DEALER FOR REPAIR AND THEY WILL BE STARTING THE WORK ON THURSDAY, APRIL 21ST. I DID CONTACT GM TO COMPLAIN ABOUT WHAT I BELIEVE IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, THEY HAVE CALLED ME TO ASK FOR THE DETAILS. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS CHEVY TRUCK VEHICLES WITH THE SAME CORRODED BRAKE LINES SO I DECIDED TO PUT IN A COMPLAINT. THE NHTSA HAS COMPLAINT #ODI 10358067 ALREADY IN IT'S DATABASE AND I SUSPECT MANY OTHERS BASED ON WHAT I SEE ONLINE. CHEVY BRAKES SYSTEMS HAVE 365 COMPLAINTS NOTED AT EDMUNDS.COM. AND I QUESTION HOW MANY HAVE NOT BEEN REPORTED. JUST A NOTE, I AM AN EX-ENGINEER AND BELIEVE THE DESIGN IS VERY POOR AND THAT THE MATERIAL CHOSEN ACTUALLY BEGS FOR FAILURE. GM ENGINEERS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THE DESIGN. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. THANK YOU.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES YET THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. HE THEN USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO IDLE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER ASSURED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER ON HIS BEHALF. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,500.
1 ISSUE IS THE AC RUNS HOT ON THE LEFT SIDE AND COLD ON THE RIGHT. SOMETIMES IT WILL RUN ALL HOT.. @. THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS GO OFF AFTER I HAVE STARTED DRIVING AND I CAN NOT SEE THE SPEED OR ANYTHING ON IT. WE HAD A RECALL ON THE HARNESS A FEW YEAR AGO, AROUND APRIL 2011 OR 2012 THE TRUCK WOULD NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION AT THE TIME. I HAVE REPLACED IT TWICE ALREADY. CHEVROLET MANUFACTURE REIMBURSED US.

WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM THE GAS STATION MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I LOST MY BRAKES, I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED HOME ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THE LINES WERE SO RUSTED THAT THEY HAD HOLES AND HAD FALLEN APART. I HAD TO HAVE ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED FROM FRONT TO BACK ON THE ENTIRE TRUCK, THE TRUCK WAS COMPLETELY UNSAFE DUE TO ALL THE BRAKE LINES BEING SO RUSTED, MY TRUCK IS PRIMARILY USED TO PULL MY 5TH WHEEL CAMPER. THAT DAY I HAD FILLED UP WITH GAS TO LEAVE THE NEXT MORNING FOR A CAMPING TRIP. I THANK GOD THAT MY FAMILY WAS NOT IN THE TRUCK AND NO ONE GOT HURT. WHEN I LOST MY BRAKES ON APRIL 8, 2011 I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT HITTING ANYONE OR ANYTHING THING, I WAS DOING ABOUT 40 MPH AND HAD TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO HELP SLOW ME DOWN AND STOP. IT WAS A FRIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 54,350 MILES ON IT AND IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED. REPLACING ALL THE BRAKES LINES HAS BEEN VERY EXPENSIVE. I NOW AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE FUEL LINES WHICH DO NOT LOOK MUCH BETTER.
TRUCK HAD A SUDDEN AND COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE FAILURE RESULTED IN A LOW SPEED COLLOSION WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE TRUCK, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A STEEL BRAKE LINE HAD BURST AND WAS RELEASING BRAKE FLUID. ALL THE BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO HAVE EXCESSIVE CORROSION. *TR
I WAS JUST DRIVING MY YUKON AND THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 100 MILES I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG BECAUSE WHEN I STOP AND TURN IT OFF THE SPEEDOMETER STAYED AT 40 MILES AND I DON'T KNOW AT WHAT SPEED AM AT WHEN AM ON THE FREEWAY, I AS A MECHANIC SHOP AN THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO GO TO THE DEALER FOR THAT. *TR

CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED IN JANUARY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES FROM THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. A BRAKE LINE BURST DURING TESTING AFTER THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AND WAS REPLACED. THE TECH SAID ALL LINES WERE BADLY CORRODED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT FREEWAY SPEED AND WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF WEREN'T FOR THE BRAKES ON THE TRAILER I WAS PULLING.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED IN CHEVY 2500 HD SILVERADO FROM AN INDIVIDUAL AND THE GAUGES ON THE DASH ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. LUCKILY, THE PERSON I BOUGHT IT FROM WAS HONEST ENOUGH TO LET ME KNOW THIS BEFORE I TEST DROVE THE TRUCK. HE TOLD HE HAD ALREADY SPOKE TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND IT COULD BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY IF THE VEHICLE HAD UNDER 75,000 MILES.THE TRUCK HAD 142,XXX WHEN I GOT IT. I TALKED TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE ALSO VERIFIED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS, AS IS A HOLE BEING EATEN UP IN THE TRANSFER CASE OF THE 4X4. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE I GOT IS $350. I THINK A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SHOULD BE FILED ON BEHALF OF ALL THE CURRENT OWNERS( OR PERSONS THAT HAD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR) AGAINST GM. I AM UNABLE TO MONITOR MY SPEED, TEMP, OIL PRESSURE, VOLTAGE, FUEL OR TRANS TEMP ACCURATELY BECAUSE OF THIS. IF THE MOTOR WERE TO BURN UP DUE TO OVERHEATING, I WOULD HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING IT UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING AND THE UNDER CARRIAGE WAS SEVERELY COVERED WITH RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 . THE DEALER REPLACED ALL THE STEEL BRAKE LINES AND BLED THE BRAKE SYSTEM. UPDATED 05/19/11

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REMOVED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FOR INSPECTION. ONCE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS INSTALLED BACK IN THE VEHICLE, THE PANEL OPERATED AS NORMAL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE OIL PRESSURE WARNING GAUGE. THE DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WITH A NEW ONE NOR WERE THERE ANY REPAIRS PERFORMED. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FAILURE WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS ONLY WILLING TO ASSIST WITH REPAIRS ON THOSE VEHICLE WITH 75,000 MILES OR LESS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

I OWN A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO AND I'M HAVING ISSUES WITH THE DASH CLUSTER ODOMETER READING CORRECTLY. I FEEL IT A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN YOU CAN NOT TELL HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING WHILE DRIVING. IF YOUR CAUGHT GOING 20 MPH ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT, IT'S CONSIDERED DANGEROUS ENRECLIMENT. AM I WRONG? THE ODOMETER READS INCORRECTLY EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY TRUCK. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. A LEAK IN THE FRONT LINE TO THE ABS PUMP CAUSED TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. TRUCK COASTED TO A STOP AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE RESULTED IN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. I FEEL THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY CHEVY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LARGE WATER LEAK IN THE VEHICLE IN WHICH HE BELIEVED COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN ANTI-FREEZE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTIONED AND WHILE PARKED, THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED THAT THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 90 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE HEAD WAS FRACTURED AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I HAVE A 2004 SILVERADO 1500 AND I HAD HEARD ABOUT A TSB FOR A PIN THAT ENGAGES THE CLUTCH ON THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FOR THE LSD REAR END. WITHOUT PREVIOUS ISSUES OR WARNING MY REAR END IN MY SILVERADO WENT OUT 2 DAYS AGO WHILE I WAS LEAVING FROM A STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THE CAR WAS RENDERED IMMOBILE AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL SHOP IN WHICH FOR EVERYTHING TO BE REPLACED IS GOING TO COST ~$2000. THIS TSB CAN SAVE ME THOUSANDS BUT SINCE THERE IS NO OFFICIAL RECALL, GM WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I KNOW JUDGING FROM THE TRUCK FORUMS THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS OWNERS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE BRAKES OPERATE PROPERLY UNTIL JUST UNDER 10MPH. AROUND 10MPH IT FELT LIKE THE BRAKES FADED AWAY CAUSING THE TRUCK TO LURCH FORWARD. I REPLACED PADS AND ROTORS ON THE FRONT AND BACK THINKING THIS WAS THE ISSUE. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AFTER INSTALLATION OF NEW BRAKE COMPONENTS. I LATER LEARNED THIS WAS AN ISSUE OF THE ABS KICKING AND WAS INFORMED THE ENTIRE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE BEARINGS IN THE HUBS AND COULD NOT AFFORD THE COST OF $280 EACH. SINCE THIS VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEN DAILY I ASSUMED I COULD JUST BE CAUTIOUS AND ALLOW EXTRA BRAKING DISTANCE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE PROBLEM. IN MAY OF 2012 I ENCOUNTERED A SITUATION WHERE I HAD TO MAKE AN ABRUPT STOP FROM A SPEED OF 45MPH. AS MY SPEED DECREASED THE ABS ENGAGED CAUSING ME TO LURCH FORWARD AND I CAME WITHIN INCHES OF CRASHING INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I FOUND GM RECALL #05068C FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORROSION. THE SYMPTOMS IN THIS DOCUMENT ARE IDENTICAL TO THE ISSUE I HAVE EXPERIENCED. I HAVE PERFORMED THE REPAIR PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THE DOCUMENT AND CAN REPORT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. HOWEVER, IT TOOK A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME AND ONE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO EXTEND THIS RECALL BEYOND THE 2002 MODEL YEAR. I AWARE OF AT LEAST 2 OTHER GM TRUCK OWNERS (2005 MODEL YEAR) THAT HAVE REPLACED THEIR WHEEL HUBS DUE TO THIS ISSUE. *JS *TR
THE SPARE TIRE UNDERNEATH THE 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO WILL NOT RELEASE FROM THE CABLE MECHANISM WHEN LOWERED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TIRE TO LOWER APPROXIMATELY TWO TO THREE INCHES BUT THE SECONDARY LOCKING MECHANISM WOULD NOT RELEASE THE TIRE FROM THE MECHANISM HOLDING IT. SEARCHING MANY WEBSITES UNDER THE KEYWORDS "2004 CHEVY SILVERADO SPARE TIRE WILL NOT RELEASE FROM MOUNT" SHOWED THAT THIS IS AN ENORMOUSLY HUGE AND WIDESPREAD PROBLEM FOR MOST MODELS CONTAINING AN UNDER THE VEHICLE SPARE TIRE MOUNTING MECHANISM. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS IN THE CITY WHEN MY TIRE WENT FLAT BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO CALL A WRECKER QUICKLY. BUT, FOR THE TIMES I AM TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY THIS HAS MADE ME COME TO THE REALIZATION THAT THIS IS AN ENORMOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WHY HASN'T THIS DESIGN FLAW BEEN ADDRESSED BY GM? IT IS NOW APPARENT TO ME THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR QUITE SOME TIME. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY GM AS A DESIGN FLAW? THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BULB THREE DIFFERENT TIMES BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. TRUCK: 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD, 6.6L DIESEL. LOCATION: UPSTATE NY PROBLEM: WHILE TESTING THE BRAKES BEFORE TOWING A TRAILER, THE PEDAL PUSHED COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKE FLUID POURED TO THE GROUND FROM UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. UPON INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE LINES, IT SHOWED ONE OF THE LINES ON THE FRAME RAIL HAD SEVERE CORROSION AND HAD BURST. ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID DRAINED OUT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER THROUGH THIS BROKEN LINE. I CHECKED THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKES AFTER THE BROKEN LINE TO SEE IF I HAD ANY ABILITY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE AS THE BRAKES WOULD NOT EVEN STOP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING AT AN IDLE. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED AT OPERATING SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHILE TOWING, I WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY THE TRUCK IS AT A REPAIR FACILITY TO HAVE THE LINES REPLACED AND SYSTEM CHECKED. *TR
BRAKE LINES, TRANSMISSION LINES AND ENGINE COOLANT LINES ALL FAILING ON 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 3500 HD AS WELL AS ON 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THESE PROBLEMS HAVE CAUSED NUMEROUS AMOUNTS OF TIME TO REPAIR AND REPLAFE, AND TODAY THERE WAS A BRAKE FAILUER ON THE 2004 HD GMC THAT ALMOST RESULTED IN DEADLY ACCIDENT. THESE LINES SHOULD NOT HAVE RUSTED AND WE HAVE ISSUES WITH BOTH VEHICLES ON THE SAME LINES. THESE VEHICLES WERE PRODUCTED WITH INADEQUATE PARTS FOR ALL LINES ON THE UNDERSIDE OF VEHICLE. THERE SHOULD NOT BE 1,000 PLUS COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS REGARDING THE RUSTING OF THESE COMPONENTS, OF WHICH HAVE CUASED SEVERAL MAJOR ANMD LIFE SAFETY ISSUES. THE BRAKE LINES ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF ANY VEHICLE AND TO HAVE THEM RUST THRU TO THE DEGREE OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE COMPENENTS THE MANUFACTURER INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES. BETWEEN OUR 2004 CHEVY AND 2003 GMC TRUCKS WE HAVE REPLACED ALL OF THE TRANMISSION COLLANT LINES, OIL ENGINE LINES AND READY TO CHANGE BRAKE LINES IN 1 TRUCK WITH THE OTHER TRUCK HAVING TO ALSO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST. THE ENTIRE UNDERSIDE COMPENENTS ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
