BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MY 2004, SILVERADO, DUE TO A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. INCIDENT OCCURED IN DRIVEWAY. THE LEAK WAS A PIN-HOLE TYPE, WHICH SHOT A STREAM OF BRAKE FLUID WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ACTIVATED. THE TRUCK HAS 48,000 MILES AND WAS PURSHASED NEW. *TR
2004 CHEVY 2500 HD TRUCK WITH 6.6 DURAMAX DIESEL LOSE FUEL SUCTION. MUST MANUALLY PUMP UP FUEL SYSTEM TO GET TRUCK STARTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 70 MPH WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND HEARD A LOUD SCRAPING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ALL FOUR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,620.
ALL BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND LEAKING IN MY 2004 SILVERADO. ALL LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE SEVERE CORROSION. *TR
A FEW MONTHS AGO 2 OF THE SEAT BELTS ON THE MIDDLE ROW SEATS OF MY VEHICLE BECAME STUCK SO THEY ARE UNABLE TO BE PULLED OUT LONG ENOUGH TO REACH TO BE CLIPPED IN. AROUND 2010 SEVERAL OF THE GAUGE NEEDLES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF MY 2004 CHEVY TAHOE STARTED TO STOP WORKING. FROM 2010 TILL 2015 I TRIED TO TAKE TO A DEALERSHIP 2 TIMES TO GET IT LOOK AT BUT BY THE TIME I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP IT WOULD START WORKING AGAIN SO I WAS ADVISE TO BRING IT IN WHEN IT WAS NOT WORKING. A COUPLE MONTHS AGO WHEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE I HAVE PAID $300 TO TRY TO GET IT FIX, HOWEVER THE ELECTRICIAN FOUND A REPORT IN REGARDS TO MY CAR'S PROBLEM AND ADVISE ME TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP TO SEEK REPAIRS AT NO COST. I THEN TOOK IT TO RON TONKIN CHEVROLET ON 8/10/2015 LOCATED AT 122ND AVE AND WAS TOLD THAT NO RECALLS WERE FOUND FOR THIS ISSUE JUST A NOTICE AND ADVISED ME TO CONTACT GM TO SEEK COST ASSISTANCE. ON 8/11/2015 I CALLED GM AT (800)630-2438 AND TALKED TO A REP, THEN A SENIOR ADVISOR AND WAS TOLD THAT MY REQUEST WAS DENIED AND SO I REQUESTED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOVE THE SENIOR ADVISOR. I WAS TOLD THAT I WILL GET A CALL IN THE NEXT 24-48 HRS BUT SINCE I DIDN'T GET A CALL I CALLED THEM BACK ON 8/17/2014 AND WAS TOLD BY A SUPERVISOR THAT MY REQUEST IS DENIED BECAUSE THE SMART CARE COVERAGE ENDED IN 2011 AND I SHOULD HAD FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE NOTICE SENT TO VEHICLE OWNER BEFORE 2011 TO GET MY INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES AND SEAT BELTS REPAIR. I EXPLAINED THEM THAT I DID NOT RECEIVED THAT NOTICE BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT IT WAS SENT TO ME AND FOR THAT REASON NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. I CONSIDER THAT THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY MATTER AND THAT GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO COVER THE COST FOR THE REPAIRS.
SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THEY DID NOT BUST YET, BUT ARE SO DETERIORATED AFTER ONLY 12,000 MILES, I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO REPLACE THESE LINE WITH LINES OF A BETTER MATERIAL. *TR
SPEEDODOMETER CHANGES AND MAY BE CORRECT, NEXT TIME MAY SHOW OFF 5 MILES AN HOUR, NEXT TIME MAY BE OFF 60 MILES AN HOUR, MAY BE FAST, MAY BE SLOW. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVROLET PICKUP WITH 55,000 MILES. TODAY I WAS INFORMED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED FOR THE STATE OF MAINE, THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE SO SEVERALLY RUSTED THAT THEY ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $900. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE ROTORS TWO YEARS AGO AND THE FRONT ONES AGAIN THIS YEAR. *TR
MY DAUGHTER AND 10 YEAR OLD GRAND DAUGHTER BORROWED THE TRUCK TO GO TO A STORE,A SHORT DISTANCE. SHE CAME TO A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WITH NO WARNING THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. TRAFFIC WAS MOVING ACROSS THE INTERSECTION IN THE 35 MPH ZONE ON A GREEN LIGHT. MY DAUGHTER MADE THE CORRECT PANIC DECISION TO QUICKLY TURN RIGHT INTO THE TRAFFIC FLOW SHOULDER TO AVOID BEING HIT BROAD SIDE. I HAD DRIVEN THE TRUCK WITHIN THE HOUR BEFORE THE NEAR ACCIDENT WITH NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM.NO LEAKING BRAKE FLUID SMELL, NO DASH LIGHTS, NO LOW BRAKE PEDDLE. ALL BRAKE FLUID DRAINED FROM THE FAILED BRAKE LINE UNDER THE CAB, SO MUCH FOR THE DUEL BRAKING SYSTEM!! ALL BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. *TR
INSTRUMENT PANEL/CLUSTER IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, OIL PRESSURE GAUGE AND SO ON ARE ERRATIC AND GIVING FALSE READINGS. DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO ASSIST. PLEASE ADVISE, RC, ESQUIRE.
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 5.3 MOTOR Z71 PACKAGE. DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL GOES TO FULL HEAT, DEALER SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. FIXED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY. FOUND BLOGS ONLINE TO TROUBLE SHOOT EXACT PROBLEM AND FIX MYSELF. SOME PEOPLE REPORTED FIRES. EVEN WHEN AC OFF IT STILL BLOWS HOT AIR. TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTARTING IT HAS BEEN WORKING. I DO ALOT OF HIGHWAY DRIVING AND CANT ALWAYS PULL OFF AND RESTART THE MOTOR. BEING THAT HEAT STILL BLOWS WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND WONT STOP, PUTTING THE WINDOWS DOWN DOES NOTHING TO AID THIS PROBLEM. *TR
CORRODING BRAKE LINES ON A 2004 CHEVROLET 2500 SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK CAUSING CRITICAL FAILURE AND SUBSTANTIAL LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING POWER. *TR
HEATER FAN WIRING HARNESS OVERHEATS BURNS THRU AT CONNECTOR BETWEEN RESISTOR AND HARNESS. SEVERAL WIRES IN CONNECTOR -THE LEAD FOR FULL POWER TO MOTOR ( HIGH SPEED SETTING) IS SUPPLIED BY 40 AMP FUSE. WIRE IS APPROX 16 GAGE WITH TERMINAL CONNECTIONS SUBJECTED TO LONG DUTY CYCLE WITH HIGH AMP LOAD. WIRE HARNESS OVERHEATED CAUSING FIRE IN VEHICLE IN OCT 2005 ( 7,657 MILES). REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. REPEAT FAILURE IN AUG 2010 ( 24,615 MILES) ON 2ND FAILURE DEALER STATED HAPPENS ALL THE TIME SO HE HAD PARTS DEPT KEEP AMPLE SUPPLY OF RESISTORS AND HARNESSES IN INVENTORY. REFUSED TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. 2ND REPAIR DONE BY VEHICLE OWNER. PART NUMBERS USED IN 1ST REPAIR BY DEALERSHIP WERE; CONNECTOR 88953358 AND RESISTOR 89018596. 2ND REPAIR BY VEHICLE OWNER USED DELCO PARTS #S - CONNECTOR DEL15-81086, AND RESISTOR DEL PT2485. ON 2ND REPEAT FAILURE THE NEW CONNECTOR APPEARED MORE ROBUST IN DESIGN IN AREA OF CONTACT PATCH BETWEEN HARNESS AND RESISTOR. TERMINAL INTERFACE SEEMED IMPROVED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER ON HIS VEHICLE WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT INSTEAD OF JUST REPAIRING THE SPEEDOMETER, THEY NEEDED TO REPLACED THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT WERE UNABLE TO HELP SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000. UPDATED 3/14/11 *CN THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED CHEVROLET WOULD REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER UP TO 5,000 MILES AND THEY WOULD BILL THE CONSUMER $500-700 TO HAVE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPLACED SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD OVER 95,000 MILES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEATER ELECTRICAL RESISTOR, AND CONNECTORS MELTED CAUSING THE HEATER BLOWER TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE CONNECTORS, AND RESISTORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THEY WILL NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,500.
GM, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!! IF I WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH MY BOAT ON THE BACK, I'D HAVE UNHITCHED THE BOAT, MOVED IT TO A SAFE LOCATION, AND THEN TORCHED THE TRUCK TO THE GROUND! OK NOT REALLY, BUT I'M JUST BESIDE MYSELF THAT GM WOULD DO SUCH A DUMB MOVE AND INSTALL A SAFETY FEATURE WHICH WOULD HINDER YOU IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. MY 2004 SILVERADO HAS A "SAFETY LATCH MECHANISM" FOR THE SPARE TIRE THAT BECOMES RUSTED OR DIRTY AND WON'T ALLOW YOU TO GET THE TIRE DOWN!! THEY SHOULD AT LEAST WARN PEOPLE TO CHECK IT AND SEE IF IT WILL LOWER AND TO GREASE IT OR PUT ANTI-SEIZING COMPOUND ON IT, SOMETHING. THE DUMB THING SAYS PATENT PENDING ON IT! WHAT A JOKE! THEY NEED A BETTER DESIGN AND RECALL! I'VE HEARD OF PEOPLE HAVING THEM BURNT OFF TO GET IT DOWN! THAT IS WHAT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY WOULD DO FOR ABOUT $225 - CRAZY! READ THIS AND MORE FROM OTHER DRIVERS ON THE INTERNET!!!! THE WINCH PART NUMBER IS 15247311. THE PART COSTS AROUND $100. THERE IS DEFINITELY A CORROSION ISSUE WITH THE SECONDARY LATCH. BEST TO CHECK IT, CLEAN IT, GREASE IT, WHEN CHECKING AIR PRESSURE ON THE SPARE. SPARE TIRE WILL LIKELY DROP A COUPLE INCHES WHEN YOU UNCRANK THE WINCH. IF IT HANGS UP AT THAT POINT, THE SECONDARY LATCH IS NOT RELEASING. CONTINUING TO UNCRANK THE CABLE CAN TEAR UP THE WINCH, AS THE CABLE HAS NOWHERE TO GO. AFTER LOWERING THE TIRE A COUPLE INCHES, TRY SUPPORTING THE TIRE AND FORCING IT BACK UP. THIS MAY GIVE YOU ENOUGH ROOM TO FUSS WITH THE CRUSTY SECONDARY LATCH MECHANISM WITHOUT HAVING THE TIRE DROP ON YOU. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO FREE IT UP AND THEN FURTHER LOWER IT TO CLEAN AND GREASE IT. IF ANYONE FROM GM READS THIS, YOU SHOULD NOT BE PROUD OF THIS LATCH. ANYONE FROM DETROIT SHOULD RECOGNIZE THAT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR IS A CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENT AND THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED IN THIS DESIGN. THE TIGHTLY FITTING PARTS AND TINY SPRING CAN NOT WITHSTAND THE EXPOSURE TO DIRT, WATER, SALT, ETC... AND IT TURNS TO JUNK VERY QUICKLY. UPDATED 08/24/10. *LJ UPDATED IVOQ 08/25/10*JB *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 5-10 MPH COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED AN UNINTENDED ACTIVATION OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM OCCURRED WHICH REQUIRED AN INCREASE IN THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENT AT LOW SPEEDS WHICH HAD PROGRESSED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETECTED CORROSION ON THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. THERE WAS A SAFETY RELATED RECALL ON THE MODEL YEARS 1999-2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
I HAD MY FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED IN JUNE OF 2010 UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM GM WITH NO OUT OF POCKET COST. 18 MONTHS LATER I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, FUEL INJECTOR FAILURE AS DIAGNOSED BY A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER, BUT BEING TOLD THAT I AM NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT WILL COST $3500+ TO REPAIR. IF THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE INJECTORS, PREVIOUSLY COVERED FOR 7 YEARS/200,000 MILES, WHY ARE THE "NEW IMPROVED" INJECTORS ONLY COMING WITH 12 MONTHS/12,000 MILES. GM HAS A FUEL INJECTOR PROBLEM WITH THEIR DURAMAX DIESELS THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF POST FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. AND CHEVROLET IS NOT OFFERING ANY HELP WITH ANY OF THEM. I AM DEALING WITH GM NOW, AND SO FAR HAVE GOTTEN NOWHERE WITH THE ISSUE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THE PASSENGER WAS UNABLE TO MOVE WHILE THE SEAT BELT WAS IN THE LOCKED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
MY BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT COMPLETELY ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, INSTANTLY DISABLING THE BRAKE SYSTEM. IT HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS VEHICLE HAD ONLY 38,000 MILE ON IT. *TR
MY DASH STARTED OUT WITH A SMALL CRACK AND CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. NOW MY WHOLE DASH IS ABOUT TO FALL IN. WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED AND TOLD CHEVY THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. VERY DISAPPOINTED SINCE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING CHEVROLET'S ALL MY LIFE. I THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED.CRACKED WHILE DRIVING AND SITTING STILL. *TR
I HEARD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE STEERING COLUMN...RATTLING IN THE COLUMN WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT DURING SLOW SPEEDS. MINE OF COURSE IS AND HAS BEEN FOR SOME QUITE TIME. IT IS BAD ENOUGH NOW THAT MY HORN DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. HORNS DO WORK PROPERLY WHEN I LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS.
BRAKE LINE LEAKING DUE TO CORROSION. REMAINING LINES ALSO ARE EXCESSIVELY CORRODED. FUEL LINES ALSO SHOWING CORROSION WHICH I FEEL IS EXCESSIVE AND PREMATURE.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE ON BOTH SIDES OF ENGINE, 6.0 LITER ENGINE, RESULTING IN EXTREME NOISE, POOR GAS MILEAGE, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT BLINKING AND SMELL OF EXHAUST ENTERING CAB. WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL ITEM SINCE SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH CHEVY AND GM TRUCKS AND SUV'S? THE COST OF REPAIR BY A GARAGE IS ASTRONOMICAL AND IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO DO IT OURSELVES. THE TRUCK NOW HAS ROUGHLY 112,000 MILES SINCE WE HAVE TO USE IT AT TIMES. *TR
WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF. HAVE TO PULL FUSE TO GET WIPERS TO TURN OFF. I CANNOT RE-INSTALL THE FUSE UNLESS I STOP AND GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO DO THIS. IF I DO NOT PULL THE FUSE, THE WIPERS WILL EVENTUALLY START TO DAMAGE THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE INCIDENTS OF THIS ONLINE, WITH NO DEFINITE FIX. TRUCK HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND OBSERVED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING OF 100 MPH. THE SPEEDOMETER READING FLUCTUATED AT ANY SPEED BEING TRAVELED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE SERVICE REPAIR WOULD BE AN ESTIMATED COST OF $800.00. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,700.
I CAN HEAR A THUMPING COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR TURN TO THE LEFT. I CAN ALSO FEEL IT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER SAID THIS IS A DEFECTIVE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND A KNOWN ISSUE BY GM.

THE SPEEDOMETER WAS STUCK AT 110 MPH. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP INTO NEUTRAL. THE CONTACT WOULD ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS RESISTANT. WHEN REMOVING HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY ROLL BACKWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45-55 MPH HE NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NO LONGER WORKING AND DISPLAYED ZERO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS BEING SERVICED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE TRUCK'S INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SPEEDOMETER, ALL THE GAUGES FAILED TO SHOW ACCURATE READINGS. THE ISSUE BEGAN AS A SPORADIC CONDITION. THE PANEL WOULD WORK SOME DAYS AND THEN NOT WORK ON OTHERS. IN ADDITION, WE EXPERIENCED THE SITUATION WHERE THE ENTIRE PANEL, INCLUDING ALL DASH LIGHTING AND DIGITAL DISPLAYS HAVE GONE OUT FOR DAYS AT A TIME. AS OF DECEMBER 2013, THE MAIN GAUGES ARE COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. WE ONLY HAVE THE WORKING SPEEDOMETER, NO OTHER GAUGES. WE PURCHASED THIS TRUCK NEW AND KEPT IT WELL MAINTAINED. COMPLETE SUDDEN TIRE FAILURE SIGMA TIRE STAMPEDE RADIAL AS LT265R75/16, DOT UPW8 TWT 3206 CP G04L THE TIRE HAD ABOUT 28000 MILES ON IT WHILE MOUNTED ON MY CHEVROLET 2500 FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CREW CAB TRUCK RIGHT FRONT WHEEL, AND HAD 1/3 TO 1/2 OF THE ORIGINAL TREAD REMAINING. I WAS ON I-26 IN SOUTH CAROLINA TRAVELING AT ABOUT 70 MPH. I FELT A VERY SLIGHT VIBRATION, JUST SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN NORMAL ROAD VIBRATION AND ABOUT 15 SECONDS LATER, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED. THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE BODY BETWEEN THE TWO STEEL BELTS. FORTUNATELY I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE IN LIGHT TRAFFIC, AND WAS ABLE TO BRING THE TRUCK UNDER CONTROL WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING, OR ROLLING OVER. THE TIRE WAS INFLATED TO MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS, AND I HAD HIT NOTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE TREAD SEPARATION. I HAD STOPPED FOR FUEL ABOUT 20 MINUTES EARLIER, AND THE TIRES LOOKED NORMAL AT THAT TIME. I WAS NOT HAULING A LOAD, OR PULLING A TRAILER AT THE TIME. IN ROUGHLY A MILLION MILES OR DRIVING I HAVE NEVER HAD A TIRE FAIL LIKE THIS, AND DON'T EVER WANT ANOTHER FAILURE LIKE IT. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD SOME SORT OF WARNING OF AN INCIPIENT FAILURE. THE TIRES WERE ON THE TRUCK WHEN I BOUGHT IT ABOUT ONE AND ONE-HALF YEARS AGO, SO I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY WERE PURCHASED. VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED IN A NORMAL MANNER. AFTER STOPPING FOR A BRAKE AND PREPARING TO LEAVE THE PARKING AREA, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED IN ORDER TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT AND CHIME ALARM ACTIVATED. UPON EXITING VEHICLE, BRAKE FLUID WAS SEEN POURING TO THE GROUND FROM AN AREA UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT. AFTER BEING TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY AND PUT ON THE LIFT IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A BRAKE LINE MOUNTED ONTO THE CHASSIS HAD RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. A SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION OF ALL THE BRAKE LINES SHOWED SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION DAMAGE AND ALL WERE REPLACED. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO NORMAL USAGE AFTERWARD WITH NO PROBLEMS NOTED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES WERE HESITANT TO ENGAGE. HE HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL INTO THE FLOORBOARD IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
WE HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH 45K MILES ON IT. NOT LONG AFTER, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING UP. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF, RESTARTED AND THE SPEEDOMETER WAS FINE. WE NOW HAVE 100K MILES ON THE TRUCK AND THE SPEEDOMETER READS 120MPH ALL THE TIME. THIS HAS CLEARLY BEEN A HUGE PROBLEM WITH CHEVY, BUT YET THEY AREN'T TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. DEALER CONFIRMED WITH GM CUSTOMER REP (EDWARD) THAT TRUCK WAS LOW MILEAGE, NOT ABUSED, AND PASSED "MULTI-POINT" CHECK WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. PAID $212 OUT OF POCKET TO GET TRUCK RELEASED. IT IS IRONIC THAT IF THE TRUCK WAS 2 YEARS OLDER IT WOULD BE COVERED. THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO COVER ALL MODEL YEARS, AFTER 2002, WITH THIS SAME HUB DESIGN! DURING SLOW SPEEDS, UNDER 10 MILES PER HOUR, STOPPING (APPROACHING STOP SIGNS, TRAFFIC LIGHTS, OTHER VEHICLE TRAFFIC, ETC.) THE ABS KICKS ON WITHOUT WARNING MAKING BRAKING VERY DIFFICULT. THE VEHICLE HAS NO ABS WARNING LIGHT ON. MUCH MORE PRESSURE MUST BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO OVERCOME THE ABS AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. MAKES DRIVING THE TRUCK MUCH MORE DANGEROUS AND HAS A LARGE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT. MY OPINION IS THAT THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE A VEHICLE RECALL ITEM. FEBRUARY 20, 2010 I SMELLED A BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL. AFTER A QUICK LOOK UNDER THE DASH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE I FOUND SMOLDERING WIRES FROM THE WIRING HARNESS THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE HEATER FAN. THE WIRES RUN FROM THE HEATER FAN MOTOR TO THE RESISTOR. THE RESISTOR IS ALSO DAMAGED. THE WIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE RESISTOR. THE PARTS DEALER SAID THAT THIS PART FREQUENTLY MUST BE REPLACED ON THIS MODEL TRUCK AND THEY KEEP AT LEAST 30 IN STOCK JUST FOR THIS REASON. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 63,575 MILES ON IT. AS A RESULT, I WAS UNABLE TO USE MY HEATER OR DEFROSTER WHICH RESULTED IN BEING VERY COLD ON MY DRIVE HOME FROM WORK AT 6AM AND I COULD NOT DEFROST MY WINDSHIELD TO SEE PROPERLY. *TR
