POWER STEERING GEAR WENT OUT IN 2007. 20,000 MILES LATER 2009 AFTER REPAIR AT WESLOH CHEVY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. GM WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR PART BECAUSE OUT OF WARRANTY. IN PROCESS OF GETTING REPAIRED. CAME CLOSE TO GETTING INTO ACCIDENT WHILE WAITING AT INTERSECTION LIGHT TURNED GREEN PROCEEDED TO LEFT TURN WHEN POWER STEERING WENT OUT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED THE MILEAGE AS 0 MPH. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS INFORMED TWICE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED. THEY STATED THAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BROKEN THEY WEREN'T REPAIRING IT. ONE YEAR LATER HE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE HE STARTED EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE WITH THE SPEEDOMETER AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE FAILURE BECAUSE HE WAS OVER THE MILE RESTRICTION ON THE WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD INDEED HAVE TO REPAIR HIS VEHICLE AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110000.
I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THE FAILURE OF BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, 1 IN JAN09 AND 1 IN APR09. I THINK THESE BEARINGS SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER. PART #1523-3113, ONE LASTED 42,304 MILES AND THE OTHER 39543 MILES. THE TRUCK IS USED FOR PLEASURE DRIVING AND PRIOR TO FAILURE HAS NEVER BEEN USED FOR TOWING. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO BRING NEW FROM COMMONWEALTH MOTORS AND NOW HAVE 85,000 AND THE SPEEDOMETER IS REGISTERING FROM 60 MPH TO 120 MPH. IT'S FLOATING ALL OVER THE PLACE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. IT'S SO DANGEROUS NOT KNOWING HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING. HOW CAN A 2004 VEHICLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I AM FINDING OUT THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINT PERTAINING TO THIS OUT THERE. GM HAS DECIDED TO EXTEND SOME KIND OF WARRANTY FOR UP TO 80,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD THIS FROM THE SERVICE DEPT AT COMMONWEALTH MOTORS, BUT HE WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE ANYTHING BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE. HE COMPARED IT TO TAKING OUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR YOUR REFRIGERATOR AND SOMETHING HAPPENING THE DAY AFTER IT EXPIRED. YOU CAN'T KILL YOURSELF IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR WHEN YOUR NOT SURE HOW FAST YOUR DRIVING. I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 YEARS AGO STATING YOUR VEHICLE MAY LATER HAVE A PROBLEM, BUT (IN BOLD LETTERS) DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO YOUR GM DEALER AS A RESULT OF THIS LETTER UNLESS YOU BELIEVE THAT YOUR VEHICLE HAS THIS CONDITION. WHY DIDN'T I HAVE THE OPTION TO CHANGE IT FOR PREVENTABLE MEASURES. NO. THEY WANTED ME TO WAIT AND MAYBE I WOULD GO OVER THEIR MILEAGE WHEN IT DID GO DEFECTIVE. THEN THEY CAN SAY "I'M SORRY, TOO LATE." GM IS ADMITTING THEY HAVE INSTALLED DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER AND IN A 2004 VEHICLE, THEY SHOULD BE REPLACING IT. I DON'T HAVE 200,000 MILES, I ONLY HAVE 85,000. CAN ANYTHING BE DONE CONCERNING THIS MATTER. *TR
BAD CLUNK IN STEERING SHAFT, WHEN TURNING OR OVER BUMPS AT SLOWER SPEEDS. FEEL CLUNK AND VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL, COLUMN AND FIREWALL. FEELS LIKE ITS GOING TO COME APART. PAY DEALER 250.00 TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR. 65,000 MILES PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. MUST PAY DEALER AGAIN TO GET FIXED, EVEN THOUGH THEY SAY THE PROBLEM IS "NORMAL" . *TR

CLUNKING IN INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN 35,000 MILES THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE GREASED. GM DID NOT HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM OTHER THAN GREASING IT AGAIN. IT WILL NEED TO BE GREASED AGAIN IN ~ 10K MILES...THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS DISPLAYING INACCURATE READINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE INTERNAL CLUSTER WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $529.79. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED BECAUSE THERE WERE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,582 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,600.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURE ON 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER STOPPED WHILE DRIVING DEALER SAID IT WAS COMMON ON THESE TRUCKS AND REPAIR COST IS $600 BECAUSE AT 38K MILES MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED ON THIS . ONLY THE POWER TRAIN IS STILL UNDER THE 7YR 70K WARRANTY. *TR

DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY SPEEDOMETER INDICATED 57 IN A 70 MPH ZONE SO I ACCELERATED TO GET UP TO SPEED.CLIMBED EVER SO SLOWLY TO 70 WHEN I REALIZED TACH AT APPROX.3000 RPM AND VERY QUICKLY GAINING ON TRAFFIC AHEAD OF ME. GOT OFF ACCELERATOR AND SPEEDOMETER WENT DOWN TO 30. STAYED THERE FOR A MINUTE OR TWO THEN DROPPED TO ZERO. HASNT WORKED SINCE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT STRUCK A DEER CROSSING THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS NOT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGES AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS REPLACED. RECENTLY, ON FEBRUARY 21, 2009, THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IT HAD MORE THEN 70,000 MILES SO I GET PENALIZED FOR THE PURCHASE ! LOOKS LIKE CHEVY SHOULD STICK BY THERE PRODUCTS AND BRING A RECALL FOR ALL THE PICKUPS !! *TR

THERE IS A RATTLING TRANSMITTED THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL AND HEARD AND FELT BY THE DRIVER. IT IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE DURING LOW SPEED DRIVING AS WELL AS WHEN TURNING OR DRIVING OVER ROUGH TERRAIN. IT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED BY GM IN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB NUMBER 06-02-3-0056, ISSUE DATE 1-20-06, CAUSE INADEQUATE LUBRICATION ON STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT) FOR VARIOUS YEARS OF GM TRUCKS. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN AND A RECALL SHOULD BE MADE.

THE GAS GAUGE BECAME VERY INACCURATE AND THEN STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. THEN THE ALTERNATOR GAUGE STOPPED BEING ACCURATE. WORKS SOMETIME AND OTHERS IT INDICATES MAX AMPS. CHECKED WITH A METER AND THE CHARGE, WITH MOTOR RUNNING IS 14.2. MY BROTHER HAD A 2003 WHEN THE SAME HAPPEN, COST HIM 400.00 TO HAVE INSTRUMENT PACKAGE REPLACED. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE INSTRUMENT PACKAGE. *TR

I OWN A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4X4. THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED MALFUNCTIONING AROUND 90000 MILES. IT WOULD WORK BUT NOT READ CORRECTLY. IT GOT WORSE AND WORSE. NOW VERY VERY RARELY DOES IT WORK PROPERLY. MOST OF THE TIME IT READS INCORRECTLY SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T MOVE AT ALL. SOMETIMES IT IS ALL THE WAY AT MAX AND SOMETIMES IT STAYS ON 0 AND SOMETIMES IT IS STUCK SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN. THE TRUCK NOW HAS ABOUT 135000 MILES ON IT AND EVERYTHING I FIND SAYS IT WILL COST BETWEEN 300 AND 500 DOLLARS TO GET IT FIXED. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE OF FAULTY INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS THAT GM KNOWS ABOUT AND WONT RECALL. I DON'T THINK IT IS RIGHT THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR FAULTY PARTS. IT IS VERY UNSAFE NOT BEING ABLE TO KNOW HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING. *TR
OUR SPEEDOMETER WOULD GO AS FAR AS IT WOULD GO AND GET STUCK WHILE DRIVING NORMAL SPEEDS. WE WERE TOLD THAT IF IT HAD HAPPENED BEFORE WE HAD 70,000 MILES ON IT THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AT NO CHARGE BUT BECAUSE WE HAD NEARLY 75,000 MILES ON OUR TRUCK--WE PAID NEARLY $700. *TR
ALMOST WENT OFF ROAD ON A CORNER, WITH ONLY 53,000 MILES ON IT. TOOK IT INTO LESSCWABS AND THEY SAID THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND HUBS WERE SHOT AND THE WHEEL WAS READY TO FALL OFF. THEY SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL CHEVY SILVERADOS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH EVEN LESS MILEAGE ON. CALLED CHEVY THEY SAID THEY HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS BUT THERE IS NO RECALL OR HELP WITH FIXING THE PROBLEM. IT COST APROX 900.00. TO FIX @ SCHAWBS. *TR
THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR IN NUMEROUS GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLES HAS BEEN KNOWN TO SHORT OUT AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE FIRES. THIS HAS BEEN MADE MORE VISIBLE BY A RECALL IN CANADA BY TRANSPORT CANADA (TRANSPORT CANADA RECALL # 2011074). I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR IN MY VEHICLE AND THE REPLACEMENT IS ALREADY STARTING TO MALFUNCTION. IF THIS IS RECALLED IN CANADA IT SHOULD BE RECALLED IN THE U.S. *TR

2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4X4 CREWCAB HAS A DEFECTED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHICH CAUSES THE SPEEDOMETER TO STICK OR STOP WORKING. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BUT GM REFUSED TO HONOR WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF. *TR

AS A RESULT, OIL LEAKS OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS ALSO LOCKED THE FRONT TIRES AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED. HE HAS AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,000.

2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES THE TRUCK STARTED TO HESITATE WHENEVER I WOULD TAKE OFF FROM A RED LIGHT, IT WOULD DO THIS ABOUT ONCE A MONTH OR SO. AT 30,000 MILES OR SO, IT WOULD KIND OF JUMP INTO GEAR WHEN FIRST TAKING OFF OR JUMP INTO REVERSE. DEALER WOULD SAY THEY TEST DRIVE AT EACH OIL CHANGE BUT COULD NOT FIND NOTHING, I WAS SURE THEY WOULDN'T BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME. NOW IT'S OCCURRING EVERY OTHER WEEK OR SO. FINALLY AT 76,000 MILES IT WOULDN'T GET PASS SECOND GEAR, DEALER FINALLY FOUND A PROBLEM AND NOW IT'S $2800 TO REPLACE PARTS. NO HEAVY CITY DRIVING, I ONLY LIVE 5 MINUTES FROM WORK. I PUT THE TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY ONCE A MONTH TO TRAVEL ABOUT 300 MILES ROUND TRIP. THE ONLY TIME THE DEALER WROTE ANYTHING DOWN, I DISCOVERED, WAS AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I TALKED WITH ANOTHER 2007 SILVERADO OWNER AND THEY HAVE 17,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION IS JUMPING INTO GEAR. *TR
THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT ON MY CHEVY SILVERADO HAS BECOME LOOSE AGAIN AND NOT ONLY DOES IT MAKE A CLUNKING SOUND WITH VIBRATIONS, IT NOW ALLOWS THE STEERING TO UNEXPECTEDLY DRIFT OVER UN EVEN PAVEMENT OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN A CROSS WIND. HAS BEEN FIXED ONCE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DECELERATING FROM APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO DISPLAY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 55 MPH. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE SPEEDOMETER READ THAT THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT 35MPH WHILE THE VEHICLE REMAINED IDLE. AFTER THE CONTACT SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, THE SPEEDOMETER RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. APPROXIMATELY EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS OR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
ROCKER PANNELS AND CAB CORNERS GONE DUE TO RUST. NEITHER DODGE OR FORD OF THE SAME ERA HAVE RUSTED TO THE EXTREME MY CHEVY HAS. CHEVY REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT FOR YEARS.
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71. AT 40,000 MI, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO LAG AND MOVE IN "FITS AND STARTS" (VERY JUMPY). IT FINALLY STOPPED WORKING AND NOW ONLY READS 60 MPH REGARDLESS OF ACTUAL SPEED. ALL OTHER INSTRUMENTS WORK FINE. ONLY THE SPEEDOMETER EXHIBITS THIS BEHAVIOR. *TR

IN DECEMBER 2008 I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS REGARDING A CONTINUOUS "BACKLASH" THAT HAD DEVELOPED IN THE DRIVE TRAIN OF MY 2004 CHEVROLET 4WD PICKUP TRUCK WHEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTED GEARS ALONG WITH LOUD CLICKING NOISES THAT WERE COMING FROM THE SPEEDOMETER/DASH GAUGES . THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE THE TRUCK INTO A CHEVROLET DEALER FOR INSPECTION. IN DOING SO, THE DEALER REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER ON MY TRUCK UNDER SOME SETTLEMENT THAT OTHER PARTIES HAD REACHED EARLIER WITH GENERAL MOTORS RESULTING IN EXTENDED SPECIAL COVERAGE. ON THE ISSUE OF THE CONTINUOUS "BACKLASH" IN THE DRIVE TRAIN HOWEVER, THE DEALER MERELY PROVIDED ME WITH A BULLETIN FROM GENERAL MOTORS STATING THAT THE "CLUNK NOISE" I WAS EXPERIENCING WAS IN THEIR WORDS "A NORMAL CONDITION AND NO REPAIRS SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED." THERE IS NO WAY THAT THIS CONDITION CAN BE CONSIDERED "NORMAL" AND I FEEL THAT GENERAL MOTORS IS ATTEMPTING TO ESCAPE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE THE MANUFACTURE AND SALE OF A NOW KNOWN DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. I FURTHER BELIEVE THIS DEFECT TO BE WIDE SPREAD AMONG THEIR TRUCK AND CAR MANUFACTURING LINES AND EXTENDING OVER SEVERAL MODEL YEARS OF VEHICLES. MY TRUCK HAS ONLY 19,000 MILES ON IT WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THIS PROBLEM AND I BELIEVE THAT IT CAN ONLY GET WORSE AS TIME GOES BY EVENTUALLY LEADING TO A COMPLETE FAILURE IN THE DRIVE LINE COMPONENTS OF MY TRUCK. PLEASE ADD MY VOICE TO WHAT MUST BE A LONG LINE OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS TOWARD GENERAL MOTORS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K2500 EXT LWB 4WD WITH APPROXIMATELY 21,000 MILES. I HAVE USED THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE FEATURE OFF AND ON AS NEEDED TO NEGOTIATE SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, WHICH OCCURRED ON 12/23/08: WHILE DRIVING IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, HIGH RANGE, AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH ON AN ICE COVERED ROAD THE FRONT WHEELS LOCKED UP WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL AND SKID OFF THE ROAD. HAD I BEEN GOING FASTER, OR IF I HAD BEEN IN A TRAFFIC SITUATION, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURIES OR DEATH. THIS FRONT WHEEL LOCK UP CONDITION IS STILL PRESENT AS LONG AS THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SELECTOR IS IN EITHER HIGH OR LOW RANGE. IN TWO WHEEL DRIVE THE PROBLEM IS NOT EVIDENT. I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE SELLING DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, BUT AS YET I DO NOT KNOW THE ROOT CAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. ALTHOUGH THIS INCIDENT WAS A NEAR MISS, I AM REPORTING IT BECAUSE OF THE SERIOUS NATURE AND THE HOPE THAT A SAFETY RECALL MAY BE ISSUED SO THAT OTHER ACCIDENTS MAY BE AVOIDED. *TR
POPPING NOISE IN STEERING WHEN TRUCK ROLLS OVER BUMP. HAD REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY 7000 MILES AGO. SAME PROBLEM NOW, WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I THINK THE REPAIR THAT WAS DONE WAS ONLY TO REPACK THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WITH GREASE.
