I OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND FEEL THAT THE STEERING SYSTEM IN THESE AUTOMOBILES IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING. THE NOISE SEEMS TO BE MOST PREVALENT WHEN DRIVING ON BUMPY ROADS AT LOW SPEEDS. DO TO THE SERIOUSNESS OF A STEERING FAILURE I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY GM IMMEDIATELY. MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER STARTED READING WILDLY. WITH IGNITION OFF IT MIGHT READ 60MPH, OR 10MPH. WHILE DRIVING IT WAS WILDLY ERRATIC AND EVEN MAXED OUT AT 120MPG WHILE DRIVING APPROX 45MPH. I HAD 81,600 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THUS HAPPENED SUDDENLY ONE DAY WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT AT THE SIGHT OF SEEING MY SPEEDOMETER TELL ME I WAS DOING 100MPH WHEN I WAS JUST DRIVING SLOWLY. IT WAS A SHOCKING EXPERIENCE. *TR
TRANSFER CASE DEVELOPS HOLE FROM PUMP INSIDE ON MY 2004 CHEVY 2500 HD DURAMAX. SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM OWNERS WITH THIS TYPE OF TRANSFER CASE. ITS BEING CALLED THE INFAMOUS PUMP RUB. SOUNDS LIKE GM IS IGNORING THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON VEHICLES THIS NEW WITH LITTLE MILES ON THEM. *TR
THE DASH BOARD GAUGES STOPPED WORK. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE GAUGES DROPPED DOWN TO 0. *TR
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON, DID NOT KNOW WHY, I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE. BUT WAS NOT SURE OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE AS SURPRISED AS I WAS. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE "INFLATABLE RESTRAINT SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE" FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SINCE I DID NOT KNOW WHAT COULD HAPPEN I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THIS PART AT THE COST OF $800.00. THEY DID GIVE ME THE DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILED, ALSO TRIGGERED ABS PROBLEMS AS SENSOR IS IN WHEEL HUB. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AT NIGHT, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING INDICATORS AND GAUGES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER FAILED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT COVERED THE REPAIR; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE WARRANTY DUE TO ITS EXCESSIVE MILEAGE. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS $800. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
MY DRIVERS SIDE SEAT FRAME IS COLLAPSING. THIS CAUSES ME TO SINK IN THE SEAT AS I DRIVE,MAKING CONSTANT ADJUSTMENTS TO THE REAR VIEW MIRRORS ETC. *TR
2004 SILVERADO TRUCK HAS A FAILURE OF OIL PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE, TACHOMETER, AND SPEEDOMETER GAUGES. UNABLE TO GAUGE SPEED OR POSSIBLE ENGINE PROBLEMS DUE TO INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF GAUGES. AM NOT COVERED DUE TO MILEAGE OF VEHICLE. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES FAILED ON MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO. I CRASHED. THE BODY SHOP STATED THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH. I ONLY HAVE 34674 MILES ON THE TRUCK, AND I AM THE ONLY OWNER AND DRIVER. I HAVE CHECKED NUMEROUS WEBSITE (CONSUMER AFFAIRS.COM) AND HAVE FOUND A LOT OF DATA CONCERNING CHEVY BRAKE LINES RUSTING. CHEVY DEALERSHIP ADVISED THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE RUSTED BUT WILL NOT FIX THEM. NHTSA SHOULD GET INVOLVED AND LOOK INTO CHEVY BRAKE LINES RUSTING BEFORE A FATALITY OCCURS!!!!!! I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AND A RECALL OF GM/CHEVY TRUCKS SHOULD BE ISSUED BY YOUR AGENCY. UNDER "COMPONENT NAME" THERE IS NOT A DESCRIPTION FOR BRAKE LINES SO I PUT DOWN "OTHER OR UNKNOWN". *TR
TAKES A LOT OF PEDAL PRESSURE TO STOP THE TRUCK & W/ NO LOAD & THE BRAKING IS POOR, TAKES LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP THAN IT SHOULD. BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED BAD BUT NO FAILURE YET. *TR
I HAVE HAD CONSTANT BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH ROTORS RUSTING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS DUE TO NOT DRIVING MY TRUCK ENOUGH, THAT IT SITS TOO MUCH. IT'S DROVE ABOUT 180 MILES A WEEK. THIS IS BOTH FRONT AND REAR. FOR CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4X4 2004. HAVE HAD PROBLEMS SINCE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. SINCE DAY ONE OF OWNING THE TRUCK. CONTACTED GM AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER. NOW GM WANTS $904.00 TO REPLACE ROTORS AND PADS. HAD THE VEHICLE IN WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY JUST CLEANED THEM. SECOND TIME I COMPLAINED I HAD 23,800 MILES ON THE TRUCK, OVER WARRANTY TIME/ UNDER MILEAGE. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED SHOWING ACCURATE SPEED, ODOMETER STILL WORKS. WE TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AND FOUND THAT IT THE FAILURE WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE, BUT NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL. THE COST OF REPAIR WAS APPROXIMATELY $500.00. WE NOW USE GARMIN FOR SPEED CONTROL.
I WAS DRIVING AND HEARD A POP. A COUPLE OF MILES DOWN THE ROAD NOTICED THAT MY SPEEDOMETER WAS WAY OFF. IT SAID THAT I WAS DOING OVER 100 WHEN I WAS PROBABLY ONLY GOING ABOUT 60. I SEARCH AND NOTICED THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH MY TRUCK. IT'S A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH ABOUT 33K MILES ON IT. I CONTACTED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND ASKED IF IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND SHE SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO SCAN IT AND CONTACT THE WARRANTY COMPANY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET 1500. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 45 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DIAL MOVED FROM 45 MPH TO ZERO, AND THEN FROM 80 MPH AND BACK TO ZERO. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST OVER $500. THERE WERE NO RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 46,000.
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ABS BREAKS PULSE AT LOW SPEED WHEN STOPPING ON NON SLIPPERY SURFACES, GREATLY INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE AND CONTROL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS SUDDEN CHANGE IN BREAKING PERFORMANCE AND VEHICLE TO PULLING TO THE LEFT, ALMOST RESULTED IN A COLLISION. THIS CONDITION IS KNOWN TO NHTSA AS ID# 10004310 OR TSB# 030525007 I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS SAFETY DEFECT SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY RECALL. AS I UNDERSTAND IT EARLIER MODELS HAVE A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS CONDITION WHICH IS CAUSED BY METAL CORROSION. *TR
I HAVE HAD TWO MAJOR HITS TO THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT BRAND NEW.FIRST WAS I BEAM THRU THE FRONT BUMPER ON INTERSTATE DRIVING 70 MPH,NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.SECOND HEAD ON WITH LARGE DEER,AT ABOUT 45 MPH TO GRILL, BUMPER ,HEAD LIGHTS, HOOD, RADIATOR AND FRAME WHICH ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED,NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT.I NOW HAVE WELL OVER 200,000 MILES AND 10,000 MILES BACK MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON,CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY NOW. DOES IT MEAN NO AIRBAG?QUESTION BEING WERE THEY EVER OPERABLE?BOTH ACCIDENTS WERE STRAIGHT DIRECTION AND ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY.IF ADDITIONAL INFO IS NEEDED I CAN PROVIDE.I REALLY LIKE MY TRUCK BUT AM DISAPPOINTED THAT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED RECALL ON AIRBAGS.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 30 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DIAL WENT STRAIGHT TO ZERO. THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES WITHIN ONE WEEK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,959 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS GREATER THAN 84,000. UPDATED 1/6/09 *CN UPDATED 01/14/09. *JB
HAD TWO CHEVY SILVERADOS THAT DEVELOP INTAKE AND WATER PUMP GASKET FAILURE ON A 4.3 LITER ENGINE. BOTH DEVELOP COOLANT LEAK THROUGH THE GASKET. THE LATEST WAS IN NOVEMBER ON MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO. UPON CHECKING THE OWNERS MANUAL IN REGARDS TO THE DEXCOOL COOLANT IT CLEARLY STATES THAT THIS COOLANT WILL BURN IF SPILL ON A HOT ENGINE. IT THAT THE CASE THEN WHY CAN IT BURN IT THE INTAKE GASKET FAIL AND COOLANT IS LEAKING IN THE ENGINE. I HAD A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH INTAKE GASKET FAILURE AND ALSO A 2004 CHEVY WITH GASKET FAILURE. BOTH VEHICLES I HAD REPAIRED MY CONCERN IT THE GASKET FAILURE ON THESE GM PRODUCTS VEHICLE THAT NO ONE AT CHEVROLET SEEMS TO CARE. BOTH VEHICLES GASKET FAILURE OCCURRED AROUND THE MID 60,000 MILES RANGE. I AM CONCERN ABOUT THE FAILURE OF THESE GASKETS THAT CAUSING THE COOLANT TO LEAK. APPARENTLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE GASKET OR THE COOLANT THAT CAUSING THE GASKET TO FAIL. I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO CHECK INTO THE PROBLEM OF THE GASKET FAILURE ON GM PRODUCTS. ESPECIALLY THE 4.3 LITER ENGINES. I CONCERN THAT ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL THE DEXCOOL COOLANT CAN BURN ON A HOT ENGINE THEN CAN IT CAUSE A FIRE ON THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING IF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS AND THE WATER PUMP GASKET KEEPS FAILING. I HAD TWO DIFFERENT YEAR MODEL CHEVY SILVERADO WITH 4.3 LITER ENGINE, A 2000 AND 2004 SILVERADOS WHERE BOTH ENGINE GOT AROUND 65,000 MILES AND THE GASKETS FAILED ON BOTH ENGINE. NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN HOW THIS OCCURRED. BUT THERE MUST BE DEFECT IN THE GASKET DESIGN OR THE COOLANT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. *TR
THREE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HEAD SNAPPED OFF, RESULTING IN DANGEROUS EXHAUST BEING EXPELLED UNDER THE HOOD. *TR
FUEL GAUGE AT FILL UP WENT PAST FULL AND COMPLETELY CLOCK WISE...GAUGE READING IS ALL OVER THE PLACE EVERYTIME I START ENGINE. VEHICLE HAS 59,000 MILES. I HAVE TO READ MY "RANGE" READING, (UNCERTAIN OF ACCURACY)TO APPROXIMATE FUEL IN DIESEL TANK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER THE ENGINE STARTED IT STALLED WITHIN 10 SECONDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THE INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER INDICATE ERRATIC SPEEDS, THEY WILL LOCK UP AT ANYWHERE FROM 40 TO 120MPH AND 4 TO 6000 RPM, HAS BEEN ACTING THIS WAY FOR THE LAST 5 MONTHS, USUALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. PURCHASED FROM ORIGINAL OWNER SEPT 2008 WITH 84,000 MILES ON IT, DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS AN EXISTING PROBLEM OR NOT, DEALER SAYS IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IS NOT COVERED. SAFETY ISSUE FOR SPEEDOMETER, OR OTHER GAUGES SHOULD THEY FAIL (FUEL, OIL PRESSURE ETC). *TR
FAULTY SPEEDOMETER ON 2004 SILVERADO. PROBLEM STARTED OUTSIDE OF NORMAL WARRANTY AND FINALLY COMPLETELY FAILED OUTSIDE OF EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH LAWSUIT. JUST PAID FOR IT TO BE FIXED AT A COST OF $525. GM SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. *TR
MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO HAS LOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION EVEN ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE PEDAL LOCKS UP AND YOU CANNOT STOP THE TRUCK. EARLIER TRUCKS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS BUT NOT MINE. GM DOES NOT WANT TO ASSIST IN THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM THAT GREATLY AFFECTS THE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. IT HAS ALMOST MADE ME CRASH MANY TIMES, IT IS NOW PARKED IN NEED OF REPAIR. MY OTHER COMPLAINT IS THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE. IT IS A VERY POOR DESIGN THAT IS ALSO WELL KNOWN. THE EBRAKE IS USELESS, THIS IS ALSO A LARGE SAFETY CONCERN. COUPLE THESE TWO PROBLEMS TOGETHER, AND ITS DEATHS WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET 1500. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO DISPLAY THE CORRECT SPEED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASH CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. HE STATED THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE SPEEDOMETER, OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT AND RPM LIGHT COMPONENTS BECAME INOPERABLE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED REPLACING THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE SPEED, FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN DUE TO THE FAILURE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL.
SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING PROPERLY ALL THE TIME. CAN BE DOING 25 MPH AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN SPEEDOMETER GOES TO 60MPH. IT WILL NOT RESET UNTIL I STOP AND TURN TRUCK OFF AND ON NUMEROUS TIMES. SOMETIMES IT WILL BE PEGGED OVER 120 MPH WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND I AM ONLY DOING 65MPH. *TR
2004 CHEVY 1500 TRUCK, I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE DASH CLUSTER, ALL MY DASH COMPONENTS DO NOT WORK, THE RECALL IS IF ONLY THERE WERE LESS THAN SO MANY MILES, NOW AT 90,000 MILES, MINE QUIT WORKING, WHY IS A RECALL ONLY GOOD FOR SO MANY MILES WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH IT. *TR
STEERING COLUMN VIBRATION AND HEAVY "CLUNK" ON TURNING, TRUCK WAS LOOKED AT SEVERAL TIMES UNDER WARRANTY, AND STEERING COLUMN WAS "GREASED" TO FIX ISSUE, WHICH MADE NOISE DISAPPEAR FOR SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. PROBLEM BECOMING MORE FREQUENT, AND "GREASE" FIX LASTING LESS TIME EACH ATTEMPT. *TR
I OWN A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO AND THE SPEEDOMETER HAS STOPPED WORKING JUST OVER 70,000 MILES. I BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE, AND THE DEALER SAYS IT WILL COST ABOUT $600.00 FOR A REPAIR. I LOOKED THIS UP ONLINE, AND HAVE FOUND OUT THAT MANY OTHER TRUCKS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I BELIEVE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE DASH CLUSTER. THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2004 SILVERADO IS STARTING TO STICK. TWO DAYS AGO IT WAS READING 20MPH WHEN I WAS DOING 55. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT DOES NOT MOVE SMOOTHLY WHEN I INCREASE OR DECREASE MY SPEED. *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER,SPEEDOMETER,FUEL GUAGE,OIL PRESSURE,VOLT,TACH,STOPPES WORKING OR IS VERY ERRATIC. *TR
I WAS DRIVING, GOING ABOUT 55 MPH, WHEN I LOOKED DOWN AT MY SPEEDOMETER AND IT SHOWED THAT I WAS GOING ABOUT 135MPH. NOW, WITH THE VEHICLE PARKED, WITH THE KEY ON, IT STILL SHOWS THAT I'M GOING 70 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 34,600 MILES ON IT, AND GM SAYS THEY WILL REPAIR IT FREE, UP TO 70,000 MILES, WHICH IS FINE, BUT THEY (GM) WON'T RECALL THESE TRUCKS BECAUSE ITS NOT A SAFETY MATTER. IF YOU ARE EXITING AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH A SHARP TURN RATED AT 35MPH AND YOU DON'T HAVE A WORKING SPEEDOMETER IT COULD BE TRAGIC. JUST CHECK THE INTERNET ABOUT IF THERE ARE RECALLS OF THESE TRUCKS WILL SHOW THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD. THANKS *TR
10/28/08 I WOKE @ 6 A.M. TO LET THE DOGS OUT. AND I HEARD THIS LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE GARAGE. COME TO FIND OUT IT WAS THE ABS CONTROL MODULE, JUST RUNNING AWAY. NO KEYS IN THE TRUCK. JUST RUNNING. SO I UNPLUGGED IT AND PLUGGED IT BACK IN. IT STOPPED THE NOISE BUT I DON'T TRUST IT NOW. *TR
MY SPEEDOMETER, RPM GAUGE, AND TRANSMISSION GAUGE HAVE ALL STOPPED FUNCTIONING...BASICALLY EVERYTHING ON THE LEFT SIDE IF YOUR LOOKING AT IT. THE SPEEDOMETER HANGS ON 30 OR 60 AND IF IT DOES WORK, WHICH IS ONLY OCCASIONALLY IT'S VERY SLOW AND CLICKS IT'S WAY ALONG, SO THEREFORE IT IS NOT ACCURATE AT ALL. THE RPM GAUGE GETS ALL THE WAY OFF THE GAUGE AND STICKS, AND THE OTHER ONE JUST SITS THERE. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL ON THIS YET...IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX AND VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSOR INDICATOR ILLUMINATES IMMEDIATELY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP FROM 5-10 MPH. BEGINNING IN SEPTEMBER THE GAUGE BEGAN STICKING WHEN ACCELERATING, AND ON OCTOBER 24TH, THE GAUGE STUCK AT 45MPH, EVEN WHILE TO TRUCK WAS IN PARK NOT MOVING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE FAILED WHERE THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS ATTACH TO THE FRONT FRAME. AS A RESULT, HE CANNOT USE THE VEHICLE FOR SNOW-PLOWING, WHICH IS ITS PRIMARY USE. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES INTERIOR WISE WITH REPLACING DIFFERENT ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE VEHICLE GOING OUT OR NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. I REPLACED THE DUEL HEATER SWITCH THE RADIO AND A/C SWITCHES. I ALSO WAS HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE AUTOMATIC 4WD SHIFT THAT WOULD ENGAGE ON ITS OWN. THEN MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (GAUGES) STARTED TO STICK. DIFFERENT ONES AT DIFFERENT TIMES. NOW TILL THIS DATE THE SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK AT 5 MPH. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM A LAWYER STATING THAT A LAWSUIT HAD BEEN BROUGHT UP TO GET THIS CORRECTED AND TO TAKE MY TRUCK IN BUT ONCE I HAD RECEIVED IT AND TOOK IT IN THEY SAID THAT IT WAS 500 MILES OVER THE MILEAGE AND WOULD NOT FIX IT. I WOULD THINK THAT THIS IS STILL A SAFETY ISSUE AND PART OF THE STATE OF TEXAS INSPECTIONS. NEED SOME HELP PLEASE TO GET THIS RECTIFIED. *TR

THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V045000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 79,000.
ALL GAUGES ON MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 HAVE FAILED. FORMER CLASS ACTION SUIT WAS FILED AND WON ON BEHALF OF TRUCK OWNERS. SUIT ONLY COVERS VEHICLES UNDER 80K MILES. MINE FAILED AT ABOUT 100K. ELECTRICAL PROBLEM: REAR PASSENGER DOORS & LIFT GATE NOT LOCKING, DRIVER & PASSENGER MIRRORS REPOSITION TO REVERSE MODE WHEN IN DRIVING MODE. WHEN IN REVERSE MODE MIRRORS REPOSITION TO DRIVING MODE. WHEN DRIVING I HAVE SET THE DOORS TO LOCK OUT OF PARK POSITION HOWEVER, ONLY THE TWO FRONT DOORS DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS LOCK. THE TWO REAR PASSENGER DOORS AND LIFT GATE REMAINS UNLOCK WHILE IN THE DRIVING MODE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CORRECTION WAS MADE INVOLVING THE VEHICLE BEING RE-PROGRAM AT A COST OF $150.00 AND WAS REQUIRED TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE FOR THE TECHNICIAN FOR ABOUT HALF THE DAY. THE REPAIRS MADE TURNED OUT TO BE A TEMPORARY FIX THAT ONLY LASTED TWO MONTHS BEFORE THE SAME SYMPTOMS RETURNED AGAIN. CURRENTLY HAVING THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING, & MIRROR REPOSITION PROBLEM IN ADDITION IN HAVE A CLUNKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD AND CAN BE FELT IN THE STEERING COLUMN THIS PROBLEM NOT YET ADDRESS FOR SERVICE CHECK CONFLICT WITH SERVICE SCHEDULE AVAILABILITY OF TECHNICIAN. *TR
IN OCT.2008 I BROUGHT MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD TO POUGHKEEPSIE CHEVROLET IN POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. FOR AN OIL AND FILTER CHANGE AND N.Y. STATE INSPECTION. WHILE WAITING FOR THE WORK TO BE COMPLETED I WAS ASK TO COME AND LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS ON THE LIFT. I WAS SHOWN THE FOUR BRAKE ROTORS (STILL ON THE VEHICLE). THE INSIDES OF THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE EXTREMELY DAMAGED WITH RUST, WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. WHEN I EXPRESSED MY DISMAY AND DISGUST (THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 28.5K MILES ON IT) I WAS TOLD THIS HAD OCCURRED "BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WASN'T DRIVEN ENOUGH AND WE LIVE IN THE RUST BELT". ANYWAY I AUTHORIZED THE WORK TO BE DONE, I NEEDED THE N.Y. STATE INSPECTION AND IT WAS OBVIOUS THE BRAKES WERE UNSAFE. AFTER DWELLING ON THIS, I DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND CAME TO FIND THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEMS IN MANY GM LIGHT TRUCKS HAVE BEEN PROBLEMATIC FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND GIVEN SIMILAR RESPONSES VARYING SLIGHTLY TO FIT GM'S NEEDS TO MASK THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, THE MAJORITY BEING RUST AND CORROSION. IT IS OBVIOUS GM REMAINS IN DENIAL OF THIS DEFECT AND REFUSES TO CORRECT OR REIMBURSE FOR REPLACEMENT. MY FIRST REGRET IS ALLOWING GM TO DO THE WORK. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, PREVIOUS VICTIMS THAT REPLACED THEIR ROTORS WITH GM PRODUCTS HAD THE SAME SUBSEQUENT RESULT. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN SUED. I WILL NEVER BUY A NEW GM VEHICLE AGAIN. IT IS NO WONDER THEY ARE GOING BANKRUPT. THEIR PROBLEM IS NOT THE PAY AND BENEFITS THEY GIVE THEIR WORKERS, IT IS WHERE THEY CUT CORNERS IN THEIR PRODUCT (CHEAP MATERIAL & OUTSOURCING) TO LINE THEIR CEO GREEDY POCKETS.
