THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS INTERMITTENTLY AND I FOUND MYSELF GOING FASTER THAN THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERED. GOING AROUND A TURN I WAS FORCED INTO THE OTHER LANE OF TRAFFIC DO TO THE EXCESSIVE SPEED. *JB
SPEEDOMETER READS 75 WHEN THE TRUCK IS STOPPED AND QUICKLY PEGS WHEN MOVING. CHEVY WANTS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR. A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH CHEVY TRUCK NEWER THAN 2003. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING HOME MY SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO AND STAYED THERE. IT STARTED WORKING THE NEXT DAY. THIS PAST SATURDAY IT WENT HAYWIRE AGAIN, FREEZING UP AT 49 MPH. NOT GOOD WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THROUGH MULTIPLE SPEED LIMIT ZONES. THIS MORNING I STARTED OUT AT 54 MPH BEFORE I PUT IT IN DRIVE. UPON REACHING THE STOP SIGN, I SHUT IT OFF AND RESTARTED. IT DROPPED 10 MPH. I CONTINUED TO STOP AND RESTART DROPPING ANOTHER 10 MPH WITH EACH EFFORT UNTIL IT REACHED ZERO. FROZE UP AGAIN WHEN I WENT TO LUNCH. WHAT SHOULD I TELL THE COPS IF I GET STOPPED FOR SPEEDING? I KNOW, I'LL JUST LET THEM LOOK AT MY DASH TO SEE HOW FAST IT SAYS I'M GOING SITTING STILL. *JB
NORMAL USE CAUSED SIGNIFICANT NEED FOR REPAIR OF BRAKES, EMISSION SYSTEM, AND ENGINE. *TR
(2004 SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB LS 5.3L WITH 54K MILES) I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THIS MORNING (CRUISING ABOUT 70MI) BUT I NOTICED THAT WHEN I SLOWED DOWN IN TRAFFIC, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS STUCK AT 70MI. ONCE I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY, I PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION TO FILL-UP, AND NOTICED THAT THE NEEDLE ON THE SPEEDOMETER WAS STILL STUCK @ 70MI. AS I DROVE AWAY, I NOTICED THAT NOW, THE NEW 70MI. MARK WAS 0MI, AND AS I DROVE DOWN THE STREET, THE CAR WAS READING 100MI. IT CONTINUED TO MOVE BACK TO 70 AS I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A CLASS-ACTION LAW SUIT FOR THIS ISSUE. I WILL NOT PAY TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM AS I FEEL IT'S GM'S PROBLEM TO RESOLVE. MY NEXT VEHICLE WILL BE A TOYOTA...AND THEY WONDER WHY IMPORTS ARE FLOODING THE MARKET...GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS STUFF! I FEAR THAT WHEN I TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER SHIP, THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE ME AN ARM AND A LEG, DESPITE THAT FACT THAT I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PACKAGE FROM THEM AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE (TRUCK). NOW THAT THIS ISSUE IS THERE, I CAN'T REALLY DRIVE MY TRUCK UNTIL IT'S REPAIRED SINCE I DON'T WANT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT OR GET A TICKET. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYS INACCURATE SPEEDS AND THE FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT DISPLAY THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF GASOLINE. THE FAILURES OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY REGARDING THESE FAILURES; HOWEVER, THE PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,250 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARRIVED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE ENGINE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER CARPORT WAS DAMAGED DUE TO THE FIRE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
DRIVER AIR BAG SENSOR FAILURE AFTER IMPACT ON ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK, OTHER DRIVER CAME ALMOST HEAD ON IN MY LANE TRIED AVOIDING GOT HIT ON PASSENGER SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL,CAUSED VEHICLE TO SPIN TWICE DUE TO DRIVE SHAFT BROKE UPON 1ST IMPACT,LOST CONTROL OF CAR AFTER SPINNING I WAS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE WHICH CRASHED FRONT END TO DRIVER SIDE OF ANOTHER CAR. DRIVER THAT HIT ME ON 1ST IMPACT WAS CHARGED WITH DWI AND NO INSURANCE. FUNNY THING I WAS ASKED BY POLICE IF FRONT AIR BAG WAS DEPLOYED,AND TOLD HIM NO. BUT WAS NOT NOTED ON HIS REPORT. BOTTOM LINE I HAVE NECK INJURY WHICH I'M TREATING THAT DON'T KNOW THE FINAL OUTCOME YET. *JB
SPEEDOMETER ON 2004 SILVERADO READS ERRATICALLY. NOT RELIABLE TO SHOW CORRECT SPEED. READING EVENTUALLY WILL REACH "0" WHILE SPEED HAS NOT CHANGED. *TR
I HAVE TWO APPARENT DEFECTS ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2003 AND HAS 15.000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NOTICED RUSTING BRAKE ROTORS AND POOR ABILITY TO STOP THE TRUCK. I NOTICED RUST ON THE BRAKE ROTORS INSIDE AND OUT. I HAVE APPROACHED MY DEALER WITH THE SCENARIO BUT SINCE THE TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY BY TIME (3 YEARS) THERE IS NOTHING OTHER THAN A DISCOUNT THAT HE WOULD OFFER TO FIX. I HAVE READ QUITE A BIT ON THIS ISSUE AND IT APPEARS TO BE A PERVASIVE SAFETY PROBLEM. I EVEN HAVE A CO WORKER WHO HAS THE EXACT SAME SCENARIO...SAME YEAR AND SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE DECIDED TO REPAIR MYSELF BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT. *AK
SPEEDOMETER BEGAN "STICKING" ON ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION AT APPROXIMATELY 47000 MILES. EVENTUALLY, IT BEGAN TO REGISTER UP TO 70 MPH WHILE STOPPED AT STOP SIGNS. NOW, THE ONLY RELIABLE WAY TO TELL MY SPEED IS WITH HAND HELD GPS. I'M AT APPROXIMATELY 54,000 MILES AND SPEEDOMETER REGISTERS BETWEEN -10 MPH AND 120 MPH. ACCORDING TO THE SPEEDOMETER, I REGULARLY DO 100 MPH THROUGH SCHOOL ZONES. *TR

STARTED HEARING CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM STEERING COLUMN JUST ABOUT TIME RAN OUT OF WARRANTY 36K MILES DEALERSHIPS SAID IT WAS NORMAL,DIDN'T DRIVE TRUCK OFTEN IS 2004 SILVERADO BUT SINCE IT HAS INCREASED CAN FEEL IN STEERING WHEEL,CHECKED ONLINE FOR ANY RECALLS(NONE) FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH TRUCK BUT LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME,DEALERS DO A QUICK FIX PACK WITH GREASE AND SEND YOU ON,DOESN'T FIX PROBLEM. *TR
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. *TR
I OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE SPEEDOMETER AND OTHER GAUGES DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. FOR EXAMPLE, THE SPEEDOMETER READS THAT I AM DOING 120 MPH. KEEP IN MIND I HAVEN'T EVEN RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL YET. THERE IS ALSO AN ISSUE WITH THE AMPERAGE GAGE. I HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET EXTENDING THE WARRANTY, BUT OF COURSE EVEN WITH THE EXTENSION, IT IS STILL OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. IF THE SPEEDOMETER IS READING 120 MPH WHILE SITTING STILL, HOW DO I KNOW THAT WHEN IT SAYS I AM DOING 55 MPH THAT I'M NOT ACTUALLY DOING 120 MPH. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT GM MANUFACTURED. LOOKING AT THE INTERNET, THIS AFFECTS PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THE LARGE GM TRUCKS. I WHEN TO CHECK THE COST FOR REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART AND THEY WANTED $450 JUST FOR A REFURBISHED CLUSTER. THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM AND THE CORPORATION IS GIVING OUT DEFECTIVE PARTS WITH OUT REGARD TO THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE DRIVING THE VEHICLES OR ANYONE AROUND THEM. AN ODD THING THAT I HAVE NOTICED IS THAT IF I LET THE FUEL TO DEPLETE COMPLETELY, THEN FILL IT UP, IT WILL RESET THE SPEEDOMETER THE SECOND FILL UP. I HAVE TESTED THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND IT SEEMS TO RESET IT AT LEAST BY THE SECOND TIME. IF I DO NOT DEPLETE THE FUEL TAKE IT NEVER GETS BELOW 40 AN THE SPEEDOMETER. THIS UN-SCIENTIFIC TEST HAS NOT AFFECTED THE AMP METER BEING BAD THOUGH. THIS IS CONTINUALLY HAPPENING. *TR
SPEEDOMETER INOPERATIVE. *AK
THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2004 SILVERADO HAS STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. IT DOES NOT SHOW THE SPEED OF THE TRUCK ON ANY CONSISTENT BASIS. IT WILL START OUT AT 30 MPH AND INCREASE CORRECTLY THEN RESET IT SELF 60 MPH ANDTHE LOWEST POINT. IT IS DANGEROUS. I RESEARCHED SEVERAL ONLINE DISCUSSION BOARDS AND THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS OUT THERE. MY DEALERSHIP WANTS $600 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT BE DRIVABLE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK WHILE A NEW CLUSTER IS PROGRAMMED WITH MY MILEAGE AT THE FACTORY. THIS LENDS ITSELF TO MANY PEOPLE NOT WANTING TO GET THE CLUSTER FIXED AND LEADING TO SAFETY ISSUES. *TR
SPEEDOMETER GOES TO 120 MPH AFTER DRIVING MORE THAN HALF HOUR. TO GET BACK TO 0 MPH I HAVE TO TURN IGNITION OFF & ON 8 TO 9 TIMES. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY. *JB
THE 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 43000 MILES AND THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING AND DID NOT REGISTER ANYTHING. I LOOKED ONLINE FOR RECALLS AND FOUND NONE PERTAINING TO THIS. HOWEVER, I FOUND 208 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON TOPIX.NET/FORUM/AUTOS/CHEVROLET-SILVERADO-1500/TR5QAB2MN19BL1D2J/P11#LASTPOST. OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS A DANGER AND CHEVROLET SHOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL. ALL ESTIMATES RANGE AROUND 500.00.*AK
2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD WITH FUEL INJECTORS PROBLEMS CUSTOMER STATES THAT THEY HAVE HAD THE FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED THREE TIMES AND WANTS GM TO STAND BEHIND IT'S PRODUCT**NAR**CC ON 8/01/06 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO EMIT WHITE SMOKE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IT WAS NOTED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS HAD HIGH BALANCE RATES SO ALL WERE REPLACED. IN APRIL THE GAUGES ALL SHUT DOWN AND THE TRUCK STOPPED RUNNING IN THE DESERT IN 100 DEGREE WEATHER AND WERE INFORMED BY A SECOND DEALER FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED YET AGAIN. THE CONSUMER STATED WAS PREPARING FOR A TRIP DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK INTO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE TRUCK CHECKED AND BEHOLD A THIRD TIME THE FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED WOULD LIKE VEHICLE FIXED. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATING THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER IF THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT EXCEEDED 70,000 MILES WHEN THE NOTICE WAS RECEIVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
2004 SILVERADO 1500 4 DOOR. UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED REGISTERING WAY TOO HIGH... DEAD STOP, THE SPEEDOMETER READS ABOUT 30-45 MPH. NORMAL DRIVING WITH FLOW OF TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE DISPLAYED AS GREATER THAN 120 MPH. *AK
SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING ERRATICALLY, SHOWED OVER 100 MPH WHEN REALLY GOING 30 MPH, NOW HAS TOTALLY STOPPED WORKING? NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE AT THIS POINT, USING TACHOMETER TO GET MY SPEED.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH IN THE CENTER LANE, THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO THE MEDIAN. AAA ARRIVED AND CHANGED THE TIRE. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER HE FOUND THAT ALL OF THE TIRES AND THE SPARE WERE PASSENGER CAR TIRES WITH MAXIMUM INFLATION PRESSURE RECOMMENDATION OF 44 POUNDS. THE CUSTOMER STATED THE TIRES WERE OVER INFLATED THUS PUTTING HIM AT RISK FOR EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED SINCE INFLATING THE TIRES AS RECOMMENDED. UPDATED 07/25/07 *TR

I OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN 2007 USED AND EVER SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK I HAVE NOTICE A POPPING NOISE IN THE STEERING SHAFT. I HAVE DONE MAY SEARCHES ONLINE TO FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS THAT EVERYONE WHO OWNS THIS TYPE OF TRUCK HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL YET BUT THAT THEY FIX THEM ALL THE TIME AND ALL THEY CAN DO RIGHT NOW IS GREASE THE STEERING COLUMN. YOU HEAR THE POPPING NOISE EVERYTIME YOU TURN THE WHEEL AND EVERYTIME YOU GO OVER A BUMP. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD WITH APPROIMATELY 32000 MILES NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL BRAKES AND ROTORS. REAR ROTORS AND PADS WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND DAMAGED. I BELIEVE IT IS A QUALITY DEFECT IN EITHER THE ROTORS OR I NTHE BRAKE SYSTEM ITSELF. THIS TRUCK WAS BOUGHT AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP(POUGHKEEPSIE CHEVROLET). IT WENT THROUGH NYS INSPECTION AT THIS SAME LOCAL DEALERSHIP. TIRES WERE ROTATED REGULARLY. TRUCK HAD BEEN INSPECTED AT 25,000 MILES WITH NO INDICATION(FROM DEALER) THAT BRAKES WERE WEARING. TOOK TRUCK IN TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT THEY QUOTED ME A PRICE OF OVER $1,800.00 TO REPLACE ALL BRAKES AND ROTORS. THE MECHANICS AND SERVICE MANAGER POINTED TO A PILE OF ROTORS IN THE BACK AND INDICATED IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. FURTHER SEARCH OF INTERNET AND TALKING TO OTHER CHEVROLET OWNERS, INDEED INDICATES THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THIS MODEL YEAR TRUCK HAS NOT PERFORMED TO A QUALITY STANDARD. I AM AN ATTENTIVE PERSON SO I NOTICED THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT. OTHERS MAY NOT BE AS ATTENTIVE AND WITHOUT THE RIGHT ATTENTION, THESE BRAKES SYSTEMS COULD COMPLETELY FAIL DUE TO THIS DEFECT AND CAUSE CRASH AND INJURY. CHEVROLET SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECT AND TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS. *AK
I JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED FOR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON THE 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCKS. HOW IS NOT HAVING A SPEEDOMETER NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? GM DID COME OUT WITH WHAT THEY DO NOT CALL A RECALL FOR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BUT IT OBTAINED A MILEAGE LIMIT. THIS IS NOT RIGHT THEY KNOW THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE THEY JUST DO NOT WANT TO ADMIT IT AND THAT IS BULL. THE 1ST TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THE LIMIT WAS 70K I WAS AT 72+K. NOW I AM AT 187K+ AND IT SHOULD NOT MATTER THE MILEAGE GM NEEDS TO GROW UP LIKE TOYOTA AND ADMIT THEIR FAULTS. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 CHEVROLET 2500 CREWCAB PICKUP. SOME WHERE BETWEEN 80,000 AND 90,000 THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN GIVING FALSE READINGS. SOMETIMES IT APPEARS TO WORK CORRECTLY, SOMETIMES NOT AT ALL AND YET OTHER TIMES IT IS CLEARLY GIVING AN INCORRECT READING. *TR
THE GAUGE CLUSTER, INCLUDING SPEEDOMETER, FAILED AT 70,000 MILES. NHTSA HAS RECEIVED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS MODEL. GENERAL MOTORS WILL NOT REPLACE THE GAUGE CLUSTER AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN PROBLEM AS EVIDENCED BY THE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS. *KB
AFTER HAVING THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED TWICE BECAUSE OF STEERING CLUNK, THE 3RD REPLACEMENT WAS A NEWLY DESIGNED SHAFT, AND THE PROBLEM WAS WORSE AFTER THE REPLACEMENT. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID NOW THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE A BEARING HAD GONE BAD, AND WON'T COVER IT BECAUSE I'M OUT OF WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT PROBLEM WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO WAY THE IS PROBLEM CAUSED THE COLUMN BEARING TO GO OUT. I HAD A PREVIOUS TRUCK WHICH GM REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ON 4 TIMES IN LESS THAN 4 YEARS, AND AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE WEB, FOUND MANY SITES AND FORUMS WHERE OWNERS DISCUSS THE VERY SAME ISSUE WITH THE NEWLY DESIGNED SHAFT MAKING THE PROBLEM WORSE. I THINK GM NEEDS TO BUCK UP AND ADMIT THEY HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THEIR STEERING DESIGN, AND REPLACE THE PARTS NEEDED TO MAKE IT RIGHT AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. *TR

CHEVROLET FORUM BOARDS ON THE INTERNET INDICATED MANY FAILURES FROM 2003 TO PRESENT FOR ALL CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCKS. LACK OF A PROPERLY FUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER WAS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED AT THE MANUFACTURER' S EXPENSE. *AK
THE 2004 SILVERADO 1500 CONTINUED TO GIVE PROBLEMS. I HAD THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER REPLACED RECENTLY TO RESOLVE THAT ISSUE, BUT THE VEHICLE SHIMMIED AND BOUNCED AS IT WENT DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I KNEW IT WAS THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE ON MY OTHER CARS ON THE SAME HIGHWAY. *AK

MUST PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND RESTART TRUCK TO GET AIR CONDITIONER WORKING AGAIN. IN SOUTH TEXAS, HEAT IS UNBEARABLE AS YOU MAY KNOW. ALREADY HAD INSTRUMENT PANEL OUT OF WARRANTY THAT I PAID FOR AND AFTER COMPLAINING TO CHEVY WAS REIMBURSED BECAUSE OF RECALL AND AM FINDING OUT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AS WELL WITH THE A/C GOING OUT. SPEEDOMETER ON 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK STICKS AT VARIOUS PLACES. IF I TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND IT IS STUCK ON 30 MPH THE NEXT TIME I DRIVE THE NEEDLE WENT UP FROM THERE AS IF THAT WAS ZERO. SO I MIGHT ONLY BE GOING 30 MPH, BUT THE SPEEDOMETER SAID IM GOING 60 MPH. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT SPEEED I AM GOING. AFTER I DRIVE ABOUT 11 MILES THE SPEEDOMETER DROPS TO ZERO. AFTER ABOUT 30 TO 40 MILES IT WILL RUN BETWEEN 20 AND 30 MILES SLOW. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY I DRIVE THE TRUCK. WHY CAN'T GENERAL MOTORS GET THERE HEADS OUT OF THE SAND AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH HE PLACED THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER IN THE ASH-TRAY. NEXT, SMOKE WAS EXPELLED FROM THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER HOUSING. HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, HE SAW FLAMES UNDERNEATH OF THE HOOD NEAR THE FUSE BOX. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
