THE CONSUMER STATED THE COIL SPRING INSULATORS FAILED. *JB
SPEEDOMETERQUIT WORKING. PROBLEMS STARTED IN APRIL 2006. SOMETIMES IT WAS WORKING AND OTHERS IT WAS NOT. FAILURE WAS INEXPLICABLE, AND A CALL TO THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUSTER FOR $600. FINALLY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM IN MAY, 2007 FOR NEARLY $600. IT SEEMS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS SAME TRUCK. OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING IN THE SPEEDOMETERWAS DEFECTIVE. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEEDOMETER BECAME INOPERABLE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE THE EMERGENCY BRAKES WAS ENGAGED, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT TOOK HIS VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER USED SAND PAPER ON THE ROTORS. THE FAILURE HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,365.
WHILE DRIVING ON SLICK ROADS MY TRUCK WENT OFF THE ROAD, DOWN A HILL AND CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE FRAME WAS BENT, THE BUMPER WAS WRAPPED UP UNDER THE FENDER, GRILL GUARD PUSHED INTO THE RADIATOR. UPON IMPACT NEITHER OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. MY FACE SLAMMED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL BREAKING MY NOSE. TRUCK SALVAGED. *JB
ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT, THE BRAKES ON MY 2004 SILVERADO K1500 ARE DANGEROUS. THE PEDAL IS VERY SOFT AND WHEN PULLING A 4000# TRAVEL TRAILER I HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS STOPPING SAFELY. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE THE SHOULDER ON ONE OCCASION TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. EVEN WHEN EMPTY, IT TAKES AN EXCESSIVE DISTANCE TO SAFELY STOP. MY DEALER HAS TOLD ME THE BRAKES ARE WITHIN GM SPECIFICATIONS, BUT HAS ALSO TOLD ME WHAT I CAN DO TO IMPROVE THEM. AT MY COST OF COURSE. *JB
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE SPEEDOMETER ON SOME GM TRUCKS WILL HANG WHEN DECELERATING AND WHEN ACCELERATING AGAIN THE SPEEDOMETER STARTS FROM THE POSITION THAT IT HUNG. THE PART THAT IS FAILING IS A MOTOR THAT CONTROLS THE SPEEDOMETER AND TO REPLACE THE PART YOU MUST REPLACE THE WHOLE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AT A COST OF $600. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN RIGHT AROUND 50K MILES AND AT THAT POINT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. IT LEAVES YOU NOT KNOWING HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING AS WELL AS NOT BEING ABLE TO PASS A VEHICLE INSPECTION. *JB
DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT ACTIVATE UPON A FRONT END CRASH THAT TOTALED OUT THE VEHICLE. *NM
MY SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE STARTED TO STICK ON A HIGHER SPEED AND NOT COME DOWN. IT WOULD RETURN TO ZERO IF I STARTED AND STOPPED THE ENGINE MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS CONDITION GRADUALLY WORSENED UNTIL IT WAS STUCK ON "PEGGED", EVEN WHEN PARKED. I HAD NO IDEA HOW FAST I WAS GOING. ALSO, THE SPEED CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. I HAD TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE, THEN PROCEED BEFORE IT WOULD WORK AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR THE SPEEDOMETER. THEY WERE AWARE OF THE SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM AND ONE PERSON INSINUATED IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THEY REPLACE THE "CLUSTER" (?). THEY WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO HAVE THE OLD PARTS AND CHARGED ME $450.00! I SPEAK FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM,"WE NEED HELP!" *NM
VEHICLE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING AT AROUND 38,000 MILES RIGHT AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. TALKING TO OTHER CUSTOMERS WHEN I DROPPED OFF VEHICLE, I FOUND THAT THIS WAS NOT A RARE OCCURRENCE. TWO OTHER CUSTOMERS AT DEALER HAD SAME PROBLEM ON SIMILAR MODELS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH MAKING A RIGHT TURN HE HEARD A LOUD CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING SHAFT. THE FAILURE ONLY HAPPENED WHENEVER HE MADE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE FAILURE HAD BEEN ON GOING SINCE 2006. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. HE WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT THEY HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE FAILURE BUT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. HE STATED THAT OVER TIME THE FAILURE HAD BECOME PROGRESSIVE WORSE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,472. UPDATED 04/15/11*LJ UPDATED 1/13/2012 *LN
THE STEERING MECHANISM HAS GONE OUT ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HALF TON PU 4 TIMES IN 100,000 MILES, THE FIRST TIME AT APPROXIMATELY 32,000 MILES. YOU START FEELING PLAY AND KNOCKING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I GET IT REPAIRED WHEN I START FEELING THE KNOCK. THE MECHANICS HAVE SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING MECHANISM IN MOST SILVERADOS OF THAT AGE SEVERAL TIMES. IT SEEMS THE STEERING IS A SAFETY ISSUE & THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. IT HAS COST ABOUT $900 EACH TIME TO REPAIR IT. EVEN THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE DEFECTIVE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER READINGS ARE INACCURATE. GM ISSUED SPECIAL WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. MY ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER AT 58,000 MILES, BUT WAS NOT DOCUMENTED IN THEIR SYSTEM. SPEEDOMETER READINGS ARE ERRATIC. SOMETIMES ACCURATE, SOMETIMES 50% OR MORE LESS THAN ACTUAL SPEED. INACCURACY HAS INCREASED OVER THE LAST YEAR. *TR
CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTION ON 2004 MODEL. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE FEEL SPONGY. THE BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE DEPRESSED HARD AT 5MPH AND BELOW BEFORE THE VEHICLE STOPS COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER STATED AFTER THE INSPECTION, PART OF NORMAL MAINTENANCE WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE BRAKES; HOWEVER THE CONTACT DID NOT REPLACE THE BRAKES.
RECALL 05042 WAS COMPLETED ON MY 3500 SERIES SILVERADO USED AS A TOW TRUCK. THIS RECALL HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM AND REPEATED CALLS HAVE ENDED WITH THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM AS LONG AS IT IS PAID OUT OF POCKET. NO PARKING BRAKE ON A TOW TRUCK IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. AS OF YET NO ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED. *NM *NM
2004 CHEVY SILVERADO XCAB 4X4 1500 SHUTTER IN REAR CAB AREA?REPLACED DRIVE SHAFT/NOW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BROKE/CHANGED OUT SHOCKS/CHANGED FACTORY TIRES/WILL NOT BRAKE MANUFACTURES GMVW+TOW PACKAGE/HAVE SUED CHEVROLET FOR $6000/I'LL DO IT AGAIN!DRIVERS SIDE STEERING /SHOCK/TIRE POUNDING IN 50000 MILES HIGHWAY WHAT NEXT IN 2 YEARS. *JB
I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN MY 2004 CHEVY TRUCK AT A SPEED OF APPROX 80 MPH HEAD ON IMPACT. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED BUT MY AIR BAGS DIDN'T WORK. I MADE A COMPLAINT TO GMAC, THEY HAD AN INVESTIGATION AND ACCORDING TO THEM THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE AIR BAGS. I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE WITH THAT KIND OF IMPACT, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I HAVE 2001 CHEVY SUBURBAN THAT MY WIFE DRIVES WITH MY CHILDREN. CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW GMAC IS NOT TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE AIR BAG FAILURE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEEDOMETER INTERMITTENTLY WORKS PROVIDING AN INCORRECT READING OF THE ACCURATE MILES PER HOUR, WHICH RESULTED IN A SPEEDING TICKET. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
YESTERDAY I WAS STANDING ON MY TAILGATE TO STRAP DOWN THE LUMBER ON MY OVERHEAD RACK. SUDDENLY THE TAILGATE COLLAPSE DOWN AND SLAMS INTO MY BUMPER. I WAS SHAKEN BUT NOT HURT. I WAS LOOKING AT MY TAILGATE TO DETERMINE WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED, I NOTICED THAT BOTH CABLES THAT HOLD UP THE TAILGATE WERE BROKEN APART IN THE CENTER OF EACH OF THEM. THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY HAD RUSTED. WHEN THE TAILGATE HIT THE BUMPER IT CAUSED A DENT IN THE BACK OF THE TAILGATE. *NM
SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTION IN MOST OF THE 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO'S I HAVE DRIVEN IN. I OWN 1 SILVERADO. THE COMPANY I WORK FOR OWNS SEVERAL 2004 SILVERADO'S. EVERYONE I HAVE DRIVEN ALONG WITH THE BOSS TRUCK ALL HAVE THE SAME SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTION IS A SAFETY ISSUE. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW HOW FAST THEY ARE GOING. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE CD PLAYER IN THE VEHICLE OVER HEATED, RESULTING IN HOT AIR BLOWING THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. THE AIR CONDITIONER OR HEAT WAS NOT IN USE WHEN THE HOT AIR WAS BLOWING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
WHEN I BOUGHT MY 04 SILVERADO TRUCK USED IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR I NOTICED A KLUNKING IN THE STEERING. AFTER GETTING IT CHECKED OUT I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE UPPER INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. MY FATHER-IN-LAW BOUGHT AN 02 AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WELL AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THE 01-05 SILVERADOS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER OWNERS ABOUT THIS AND A COUPLE HAVE SAID THAT GM SAID THAT ITS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE SO THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT. THEY MAKE A REPLACEMENT FOR THIS SHAFT BUT IT IS $92 AND THEN THEY HAVE TO PUT IT IN. I THINK THAT IF IT IS A PROBLEM THAT IS THIS BIG THAT THEY SHOULD FIX IT FOR FREE. I JUST WANT TO MAKE IT KNOWN THAT WE THE GM OWNERS ARE GETTING SHAFTED YOU COULD SAY AND THEY DON'T CARE. I WANTED TO SEE WHAT I COULD DO TO TRY TO GET THEM TO HELP US OUT. *TR
DIGITAL INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILURE ( SPEEDOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, RPM GAUGE & OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ALL MALFUNCTION AT 50,000, NOW AT 81,900 MILES. WE RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER A BIT LATE. THE RECALL WAS UP TO 70,000 OR 7 YEARS. CALLED GM WHEN RECALL LETTER WAS RECEIVED DEC.17, 2007. TOLD US IT WAS TOO LATE TO FIX BECAUSE OF OUR MILEAGE. IF ONLY WE WOULD HAVE RECEIVED THE LETTER WAY EARLIER. NOW GM CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM FOR US, UNLESS WE PAY OUT OF OUR OWN POCKET! AND THEY KNEW THAT THE PROBLEM EXISTED! *TR
I WAS DRIVING UP TP A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED RED THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME THAT HAD STOPPED, I REALIZED I DIDN'T HAVE A LOT OF ROOM BUT THOUGHT IT WOULD BE ENOUGH TO STOP. I PUT THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND STILL HIT THEM TWO PEOPLE WERE INJURED. *TR THEN ON 9/8/07 AND A DEER RAN OUT IIN FRONT OF ME, AGAIN MY FOOT TO THE FLOOR I HIT THE DEER. 1ST I WAS SUPRISED THAT MY AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY (REALLY TORE UP THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK) AND 2ND I SHOULD OF BEEN ABLE TO SLOW DOWN IN TIME. AFTER READING ALL OF THE ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES ON CHEVYS AND NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT, I THINK ITS TIME TO LOOK FOR A DIFFERENT CAR COMPANY.
ODOMETER MOTOR IS FAULTY ON THE 2004 CHEVY TAHOE Z71. NEW MOTOR IS BEING MADE TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL MOTOR. I FILED A COMPLAINT ON MY 2004 TAHOE Z71, COMPLAINT NUMBER 54, ODI ID NUMBER: 10148883. I BROUGHT MY TAHOE TO THE DEALER ON 02-06-06 FOR THE ODOMETER TO BE REPAIRED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. TODAY 02-07-06 I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER ADVISING ME THAT THE MOTOR FOR THE ODOMETER IS FAULTY AND THAT THEY ARE MAKING NEW ONES TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL ODOMETER MOTORS. HE ADVISED ME THAT THE MANUFACTURE IS NOT RECALLING THE MOTOR, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS HAPPENING TO ALL OF THE TAHOE'S. THE MANUFACTURE IS REPLACING THE MOTOR UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. I DON'T THINK THAT THIS IS FEAR TO THE PEOPLE WHOSE WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE PROBLEM, WHICH IS BEING REPLACED BY A NEW PART. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. *NM
THE CONSUMER STATED THE LEFT FRONT SHOCK FAILED. *JB THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH TIRES THAT CAUSED THE SHOCKS TO FAIL. *JB
2004 SILVERADO FRONT SHOCK AND COIL SPRING INSULATOR FAILURES. *TS THE FRONT SPINDLE ALSO FAILED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES. *JB
2004 SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING. STUCK PASSED 120 MPH. THIS IS A SAFETY MATTER THAT GM NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPAIR. AFTER LITTLE RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL GAUGES DISPLAY INACCURATE READINGS. THE DEALER ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BUT, BECAUSE THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE EXCEEDED 70,000 MILES, HE WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
AC TROUBLES: I OWN TWO 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCKS. AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK AND SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE DAY, THE TWO DRIVERS SIDE VENT BLOW HOT AIR WHILE THE OTHER TWO PASSENGER VENTS BLOW COLD AIR AS NORMAL. *TR
2000 MILES AFTER MY WARRANTY WENT OUT SO DID MY SPEEDOMETER IT WILL WORK FOR ABOUT A WEEK THEN REGISTER 60-100 MPH EVEN SETTING STILL. I CONTACTED EARL DUNN IN MADISON CAUSE THAT IS WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT REALLY WASN'T EXTENDED. THE WARRANTY THEY SOLD ME DIDN'T EXCEED THE MANF. WARRANTY . THEY TOLD ME AT THE DEALER IT WAS A ADDITIONAL 36,000 MILES ,HUH ,THAT'S WHAT I GET FOR NOT READING THE VERY FINE PRINT. NOW I CAN HONESTLY SEE WHY AMERICAN COMPANY'S ARE GOING BELLY UP AND THAT'S A SAD THING. LAST GM FOR ME. I CONTACTED A DEALER IN CARTHAGE TN THERE SERVICE MANGER SAID THEY WOULD HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM, NO COST , BUT SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED AT ANOTHER DEALER HE COULDN'T REALLY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. HE ALSO SAID IT WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR CHEVY/GMC, P/U'S,AVALANCHES,ESCALADES,TAHOES, BUT GM WAS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT AND THEY COULDN'T GET NEW PARTS TO FIX IT. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAD TO BE SENT OFF TO BE REMANUFACTURED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHEN THERE IS HALF OF A TANK OF FUEL IN THE VEHICLE, IT AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF. ADDITIONALLY, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED, WHICH CAUSED A CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. GENERAL MOTORS STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,750.
FRONT BUMPER BRACKET IS BROKEN, AND THE BUMPER MAY FALL OFF. DEALER SAID THEY HAVE REPLACED NUMEROUS BRACKETS, BUT I HAVE TOO MANY MILES ON MY VEHICLE TO REPLACE. 2004, CHEVROLET DURAMAX 2500 HD. *AK

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALIGN PROPERLY. THE IMPROPER ALIGNMENT RESULTED IN PREMATURE TIRE WEAR ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TIRES. THE PROBLEM MANIFESTS ITSELF WITH THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SHOWING EXCESSIVE OUTSIDE WEAR AND EVENTUALLY AFFECTS EVERY TIRE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED WITH PROPER TIRE ROTATION AND IS ONLY DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. THE FRONT END HAS BEEN ALIGNED THREE TIMES BY THE SERVICE DEALER WITHOUT GETTING A PROPER ALIGNMENT. ALSO, WITH EVERY ALIGNMENT ATTEMPT THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO DETERMINED THIS WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS DUAL WHEELS. *NM
ON JAN. 10 OF 2006 I LOST CONTROL OF MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON ICY ROAD. I HIT A CONCRETE DIVIDER HEAD ON. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH THE DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK WAS QUITE BIG. I WAS GIVEN A ESTIMATE OF $9820 OF DAMAGE BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE BODY FRAME. EVEN WITH ALL THIS DAMAGE MY AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. *NM
THE SPEEDOMETER HAS QUIT WORKING. THIS IS COMMON ON 2004 CHEVY TRUCKS LIKE THE ONE I OWN. I HAVE ASKED AROUND AND IT IS A COMMON REPAIR. THE FAILURE OF A SPEEDOMETER IS A SERIOUS FAILURE OF A SAFETY DEVICE ON ANY VEHICLE. *NM
2004 SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER. THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN FAILING ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND NOW FAILS ON TRIPS OF 5 MILES OR MORE. SPEEDOMETER MOST OFTEN BEGINS REGISTERING LOW. IT IS SO GRADUAL THAT IT IS NOT OBVIOUS WHEN IT BEGINS HAPPENING. IT WILL EVENTUALLY REGISTER BELOW ZERO AT ANY SPEED. THE ONLY WAY TO RELIABLY JUDGE SPEED IS VIA THE TACHOMETER. A FEW TIMES, IT HAS REGISTERED HIGH, SO AS TO READ >100 MPH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. MY RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL OF GM VEHICLE. OF COURSE THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FIRST OCCURRED WITH ME. I AM UNCERTAIN HOW FAST I WAS ACTUALLY GOING WHEN I REALIZED I WAS GOING WAY TOO FAST IN RELATION TO WHAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS REPORTING. I BELIEVE THE SPEEDOMETER SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A CRITICAL PIECE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT. IN ADDITION, LAW ENFORCEMENT REQUIRES YOU TO FOLLOW POSTED SPEED LIMITS, WHICH IS DIFFICULT WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER IS REPORTING INACCURATELY. IN MY OPINION, THIS DEVICE SHOULD NOT FAIL AT 35000 MILES. AGAIN, IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BEAR THE EXPENSE FOR THE REPAIR. *JB
FAILURE OF THE NEUTRAL POSITION SAFETY SWITCH, 2004 CHEV SILVERADO DIESEL WITH ALLISON TRANSMISSION. THE SAFETY SWITCH SHORTS OUT AND FAILS DUE TO WET DRIVING CONDITIONS. THIS FAILURE RESULTS IN THE TRANSMISSION GOING INTO A "FAIL SAFE" CONDITION THAT DOES NOT ALLOW THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT, STRANDING THE VEHICLE. CHEVROLET HAS REDESIGNED THE PART NOW 3 TIMES, BUT WILL NOT WARRANTY OR STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. THIS SWITCH HAS FAILED ON ME TWICE DURING SNOW CONDITIONS. *NM
SPEEDOMETER ERRATIC OR DON'T WORK AT ALL. *JB
LEFT REAR-AXLE SEAL HAS BLOWN A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES. THE BRAKES WERE SOAKED WITH AXLE FLUID EACH TIME AND WE WERE TOLD THAT IT COULD CATCH FIRE IF BRAKES GOT HOT ENOUGH. THE BRAKES HAVE SMOKED, BUT HAVE NOT CAUGHT FIRE YET! THE AXLE-SEAL WAS REPLACED BY THE MANUFACTURER UNDER OUR WARRANTY. THE AXLE ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO STOP THE PROBLEM BUT, THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO DO THIS. *JB
WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR LESS THAN 2-3 MILES AND WHEN TRANSMISSION IS COLD THE FOLLOWING OCCURS: WHEN THE VEHICLE OPERATOR STOPS AT AN INTERSECTION, STOP SIGN, OR STREET CORNER - THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO PROPEL THE VEHICLE FORWARD WHILE THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE RESULT IS THAT THE BRAKES ARE FIGHTING AGAINST THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE OPERATOR MUST PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN MANY CASES, THE VEHICLE TRAVELS WELL INTO THE INTERSECTION OR WELL PAST THE NORMAL STOPPING POINT BEFORE IT FINALLY COMES TO A HALT. THE RESULT HAS BEEN SEVERAL NEAR COLLIISIONS WITH CROSS TRAFFIC. THE DEALER HAS BEEN CONSULTED, BUT THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN: "UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM - ALL SYSTEMS OPERATING CORRECTLY" "THIS IS NOT TRUE!! THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 16,000 MILES AND IS 18 MOS OLD - BUT THIS HAS OCCURRED NEARLY 10 TIMES. THE MOST RECENT IS 12/2/05. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S TIRE HUBS ARE SEALED UNITS AND COULD NOT BE REPACKED WITH GREASE. THE HUB ASSEMBLY WAS LOOSE WHICH CAUSED THE BEARINGS TO BECOME DEFECTIVE RESULTING IN WOBBLING TIRES. THE FRONT HUBS HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE HOWEVER THE SERVICE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY THE BEARINGS WERE BECOMING DEFECTIVE. ALSO, THERE WAS OIL LEAKING OUT OF THE EGR VAVLE. THE EGR VALVE WAS REPLACED WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THEN VEHICLE WAS SURGING AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THE VEHICLE'S EGR VALVE WAS REPLACED AGAIN WHICH ALSO CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 11/06/06.*JB
FAULTY ABS BRAKING WITH 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO SINCE TIME OF PURCHASE, LOW SPEED BRAKING RESULTS IN PULSING AND UNSAFE STOPPING DISTANCE ON DRY PAVEMENT. I HAVE 40,000 MILES ON THIS 2004 TRUCK AND HAVE HAD 2 FULL BRAKE JOBS (ROTORS AND PADS, AND HAD THE ROTORS TURNED ONCE) I MOSTLY USE THE TRUCK FOR COMMUTING WITHOUT MUCH BRAKING (HIGHWAY MILES). I HAVE NEVER HAD THE ABS LIGHT COME ON, YET THE BRAKES ARE DANGEROUS. THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED FROM SIMPLY SAID GM WENT WITH REAR DRUM BRAKES THE NEXT YEAR TO MAKE IT BETTER, WITH NO SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL CREATED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS DURING RUSH HOUR, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY BRAKE ACTION WHEN BRAKING WAS ATTEMPTED. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNALS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO COULD NOT DETERMINE ANY BRAKE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES WITHOUT ANY DIAGNOSTIC OR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND OPENED THE CASE # 14336544837. THE CONTACT WAS CALLED BACK TO INFORM THE CASE WAS CLOSED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS FAILED TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED AND THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT LOCKS WHEN REACHING FORWARD. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 80,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
VEHICLE WOULD LOSE ANTIFREEZE AFTER 2 HOUR TRIPS AND KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE. GMC REPLACED THE LIFTERS IN 2005. NOTHING CHANGED, 2007 HAD THE ANTIFREEZE ISSUE CORRECTED BY REPLACING INTAKE. SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT AT 90,000 MILES. AT 100,000 MILES STARTED LOSING OIL PRESSURE, HAD OIL PRESSURE SWITCH REPLACED, AT 111,000 MILES BEARINGS WENT OUT HAD TO REPLACE ENGINE, THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXTREMELY COSTLY FOR ME. *TR
AFTER 15 MONTHS OF OPERATION, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING STRANGELY AND FINALLY FAILING COMPLETELY AFTER 18 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS WELL UNDER WARRANTY. TOOK IT IN AND THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY HAD TO BACKORDER AND THE NEW SPEEDOMETER WOULD BE IN WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. THAT WAS 5 MONTHS AGO. STILL NO RESOLVE TO THE PROBLEM. I HAVEN'T HAD A SPEEDOMETER IN 5 MONTHS. WHEN I COMPLAINED TO GM, THEY SAID THEY WOULD GIVE ME 12,000 MILES AND/OR 1 YEAR EXTRA OF WARRANTY. WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IS THEY STARTED THE 12MOS / 12,000 MILES AT THAT PARTICULAR MOMENT WHICH DECREASES MY ORIGINALLY WARRANTY BY 1 MONTH AND 4500 MILES. *NM
