ON 7/3/15, MY HUSBAND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP IN ORDER TO EXIT A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WE (MY HUSBAND, CHILD, AND I) DROVE ACROSS THE MARKED PARKING WAYS AND CRASHED INTO A PARKING LOT SIGN TO MAKE THE VEHICLE COME TO A STOP. UPON EXITING THE TRUCK, MY HUSBAND NOTICED THE BRAKE LINE LEAKING. WE WERE BLESSED THAT WE HAD NOT PULLED ON THE MAIN STREET INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WE HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP FOR REPAIR. I ALSO CALLED DON MOORE AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HAD NO RESPONSE. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS RUST AND BREAK OFF ON ALL GM FULL SIZE TRUCKS. I HAVE 2004 SILVERADO 2500 HD WITH 61K MILES, PROBLEM STARTED AT 56K MILES AS A MILD TICK THAT WENT AWAY WHEN ENGINE WARMED UP AND PROGRESSED TO CONSTANT LEAK WHEN ENGINE WAS UNDER LOAD , TWO REAR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE OFF CAUSING EXHAUST LEAK. SEEMS ALL TRUCK ENGINES HAVE THIS PROBLEM FROM 1999 -2007. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY GM .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,395.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT OCCASIONALLY STARTED COMING ON. TOOK TRUCK TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT SVC PLACES. THEY SAID DO NOT HAVE COMPUTER READER FOR AIRBAGS. LIGHT STARTED STAYING ON CONSTANTLY. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALERS AND THEY SAID BECAUSE OF LIABILITY, THE DIAGNOSTICS ARE $900 AND COULD RUN ANOTHER $1500 OR MORE TO FIX PROBLEM. AND, THEY WANTED TO KEEP TRUCK. TRUCK IS USED DAILY FOR SHORT RUNS AND HAS A BUNCH OF EQUIPMENT ON IT THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO LEAVE IT SOMEWHERE. BECAUSE OF THE STAGGERING COST, AND THE INCONVENIENCE OF HAVING TO OFF LOAD THE TRUCK AND NOT HAVE ITS USE AND THE LACK OF PLACES TO WORK ON IT AT ALL, WE HAVE LEFT IT ALONE. I HAVE DRIVEN VEHICLES WITHOUT AIRBAGS OVER 3 CONTINENTS AND THROUGH JUNGLES & ALL TYPES OF TERRAIN OVER THE LAST 40 YEARS WITH OUT EVER NEEDING AIRBAGS. NOW TAKATA MAKES A SAFETY DEVICE THAT CAN SHOOT AND KILL YOU -- DO I NEED THIS? IF SO, WHO PAYS THE REPAIR BILL?
THANK GOD I WAS NOT TRAVELING I GOT UP IN THE MORNING TO GO TO WORK AND PLACED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN WHICH IT WENT TO THE FLOOR WHICH WAS ODD I PUMPED THE BRAKE A TIME OR TWO AND HEARD THE SOUND OF DRIPPING FLUID UNDER MY TRUCK I SHUT IT OFF AND LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK TO SEE A STREAM OF BRAKE FLUID DOWN TO THE GROUND. I COULD HAVE ONLY IMAGINED WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THIS HAD HAPPEN OR IF I HAD MY FAMILY WITH ME ON THE WAY TO THE BEACH. THIS COULD HAVE BEE CATASTROPHIC NOT ONLY TO ME BUT TO MY FAMILY AND EVERYONE ON THE ROAD. I AM AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC AND AFTER READING SOME OF THESE KNOWN ISSUES AND CHEVROLETS RESPONSE TO THEM MY QUESTION IS HOW CAN YOU CONTINUE TO ADMIT THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM. I MEAN THERE ARE SOME THINGS I CAN SEE NEEDING REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON A VEHICLE AND BRAKE LINES THAT ARE MADE OUT OF STEEL IS NOT ONE OF THEM. THE AIRLINES USE STAINLESS STEEL IN THE AIRCRAFT TO HELP RESIST CORROSION FOR THIS VERY REASON. WHY PUT PEOPLES LIVES IN DANGER WHEN YOU CAN FIX IT WITH BETTER QUALITY PARTS.
BRAKE PEDAL WOULD CONSTANTLY GO TO THE FLOOR AFTER STOPPING AT LIGHT, ETC. WITHIN A DAY BRAKES WENT TO FLOOR WITHOUT STOPPING VEHICLE. ADDED TWO PINTS OF FLUID WHICH IMMEDIATELY LEAKED OUT. REPAIR FACILITY SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE DRIVER SIDE REAR BRAKE LINE.
COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY WITHOUT WARNING AND FLUID LEAKAGE DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINES. FORTUNATELY THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE PARKED AT HOME, BUT NECESSITATED TOWING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND A COSTLY REPAIR.
ON MAY 29TH MY SERVICE AIR BAGS LIGHT CAME ON. IN TALKING WITH OTHER CHEVY SILVER OWNERS OF THE SAME YEAR AND AROUND THAT YEAR IT SEEMS THIS IS COMMON. I PAID $521.18 TO GET THESE AIR BAG SENSORS REPLACED ON 17 JUN15 AT A DEALER IN HARRISBURG PA., BECAUSE I WAS TOLD WITHOUT THE SENSORS THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT GO OFF. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE I AM BEING TOLD B Y OTHER DRIVERS THEY ARE JUST DRIVING AROUND WITH THE SERVICE AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT ON. THATS UP TO THEM. ALSO ON 21 JAN 14 I HAD TO HAVE ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED BECAUSE THEY HAD RUSTED AND WOULD NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK COSTING $720.00. I WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE OF NORTHEASTERN WINTERS AND ROAD SALTS, WHICH I FIND TO BE A UNEXCEPTABLE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM. ON 23 DEC 03 I PAID $356.96 TO REPLACE DASH CLUSTER WHICH ALSO IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. I THESE SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH THE SILVERADOS ARE BE IGNORED. MY QUESTION IS HOW MANY PEOPLE HAD BE AFFECTED OR INJURED BY THESE PROBLEMS?
I WAS LEAVING THE HOUSE WITH MY BOAT HOOKED UP AND GOT ON THE HIGHWAY, WE HAD GONE FOR A HALF MILE AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND FOUND OUT THE LINE WAS RUSTED. THEN THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD THAT MOST OF THE LINES WERE BADLY RUSTED AND HAD TO REPLACE THEM ALL. IT IS A SHAME THAT THE LINES ARE FAULTY AND COULD KILL MANY OTHERS THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM IN ANY VEHICLE-DON'T YOU THINK SO!
DRIVING 45 MILES PER HOUR ALONG A RURAL ROAD FOLLOWING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE I WAS FOLLOWING APPLIED HIS BRAKES TO TURN LEFT ONTO A SIDE ROAD. WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES I FELT THE ABS SYSTEM KICK IN, THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT IMMEDIATELY TO THE FLOOR WITH ONLY MINIMAL STOPPING POWER. I HAD TO DRIVE UP ONTO A LAWN TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS A STANDARD TRANSMISSION, I WAS ABLE TO NURSE IT HOME. THIS IS THE SECOND BLOWN BRAKE LINE I'VE HAD ON THIS TRUCK. IN AUGUST OF 2014 WHILE TOWING A TRAILER I HAD A BRAKE LINE FAIL. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND. I REPLACED THE RUSTED LINE AND BLED THE BRAKES, AFTER WHICH THEY OPERATED NORMALLY. I'VE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW, PURCHASED IN DECEMBER OF 2003, AND NOTICED WITHIN A COUPLE YEARS THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTING UNUSUALLY QUICKLY. I'M AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC AND AM USED TO INSPECTING MY VEHICLES FOR ANY MECHANICAL DEFECTS OR UNUSUAL CONDITIONS.
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE ON 2 OCCASIONS, BOTH WITH TRAILER ATTACHED - BADLY RUSTED BRAKE LINES TO BOTH FRONT WHEELS BURST UNDER THE ADDED PRESSURE OF STOPPING WHILE TRAILERING. OTHER LINES TO THE REAR ARE ALSO BADLY RUSTED, BUT HAVE NOT YET FAILED. FRONT LINES (PROVIDING THE MAJORITY OF BRAKING) ARE HELD IN HORIZONTAL PLASTIC CLIPS THAT DO NOT READILY DRAIN, AND ACCELERATE CORROSION DAMAGE. BOTH INCIDENTS INVOLVED NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE INJURIES. ONE, WHILE BACKING THE TRAILER INTO PARKING SPOT WITH SOMEONE BEHIND PROVIDING DIRECTIONS, AND THE OTHER JUST AFTER HOOKING UP THE TRAILER AND PROCEEDING INTO TRAFFIC (IF THAT FAILURE HAD BEEN ONE STOP LATER, IT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE STOPPING TO TURN ONTO A HIGHWAY). DUE TO A FEAR OF ADMITTING GUILT, GM HAS NOT OFFERED REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR PURCHASE, AND ALL NEW LINES MUST BE CUSTOM BUILT, WITH A COST ESTIMATE OF OVER $1000 TO REPLACE THE BUNDLE OF ALL 5 LINES. FINALLY, THIS TRUCK (1 OWNER) IS OTHERWISE TOTALLY RUST FREE - THERE IS NO EXPLANATION FOR THE FIRST 2 THINGS TO RUST OUT ON AN OTHERWISE RUST-FREE TRUCK TO BE BRAKE LINES. WITHOUT TRAILERS OR HIGH LOADS, THE HALF SYSTEM FAILURE LEAVES THE VEHICLE WITH LIMITED RESERVE STOPPING CAPABILITY, BUT UNDER THE HIGHER LOAD CONDITIONS (EXACTLY WHEN THE COMPROMISED BRAKE LINES FAIL) THE RESERVE CAPABILITY IS GREATLY REDUCED. ONE OF THE REASONS THERE LIKELY HAVE NOT BEEN MORE INJURIES AND FATALITIES, IS THAT ONCE THE OWNER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, THERE IS LITTLE OR NO TRUST IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. WHY MUST THERE BE A DEATH COUNT BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT A PROBLEM REPORTED HUNDREDS OF TIMES OVER MANY YEARS ON BOTH GM AND CHRYSLER TRUCK (BOTH USING THE SAME LINES)? AT LEAST ORDER THE OEMS TO PROVIDE KITS OF ALL BRAKE LINES AT REASONABLE COST TO OWNERS.
BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTY AND RUPTURED WHEN I APPLIED BRAKES. BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR.
ABS LIGHT ON AND E B C M. PUMP WON'T STOP RUNNING UNLESS REMOVE FUSE I AM ORIGINAL OWNER
AFTER READING ABOUT SO MANY MULTIPLE BRAKE FAILURES I DECIDED TO CHECK MY VEHICLE AND WAS HORRIFIED TO SEE MY BRAKE LINES WERE SO BADLY PITTED AND RUSTED. IT LOOKS LIKE I'LL HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES IN THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS ONLY 10 YEARS OLD WITH ABOUT 54,000 MILES. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SUCH AN IMPORTANT SYSTEM IN A VEHICLE WOUND FAIL AFTER SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE ROTTED THROUGH AND WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACTED STATED THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO ROTTED AND SPILLED FUEL ALL OVER THE PLACE. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. ALSO, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
FRONT BRAKE LINES FAILED CAUSING FLUID LOSS AND COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES. HAPPENED AT SLOW SPEED, BUT STILL WAS UNABLE TO STOP BEFORE HITTING A FIXED OBJECT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINES FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. TWO MONTHS LATER, THE CONTACT OBSERVED A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDER THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE LINES TO FRACTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FRONT BRAKE LINES FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000.
WHILE SERVICING MY BRAKES I INSPECTED MY BRAKE LINES SINCE GM CONTINUES TO IGNORE THE ISSUE OF RUSTY AND FAILING BRAKE LINES. FOUND MIND RUSTING IN THE SAME CRITICAL AREA (BRAKE LINE DISTRIBUTION BOX) THAT MY DAUGHTERS 2004 1 TON BRAKES WERE RUSTY AND FAILED IN OHIO WITH A 4 HORSE GOOSE NECK TRAILER ATTACHED. SHE WAS LUCKY IT HAPPENED IN THE DRIVEWAY OF HER BARN AND NOT ON THE ROAD TO A HORSE SHOW WITH A LOAD OF HORSES. HOW MANY ACCIDENTS, BRAKE FAILURES AND POSSIBLY PEOPLE KILLED BEFORE NHTSA FORCES GM TO RECALL ALL THE TRUCKS WITH PROBLEMS INCLUDING THE 2004 YEAR SERIES. GM USES STAINLESS STEEL IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM BUT NOT BRAKES. STUPID. I DIDN'T GET KILLED IN VN DON'T WANT TO GET KILLED OR KILL SOMEONE HERE BECAUSE GM IS TOO CHEAP TO PUT PROPER MATERIAL IN CRITICAL AREAS. *TR
TICKING UNDER HOOD. EXHAUST LEAK DUE TO BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT PASSENGER SIDE NEAR FIREWALL. TRIED TO LOOSEN OTHER BOLTS, 3 MORE BROKE. TRUCK HAS VERY LOW MILES, 8.1L MOTOR. INTERNET SHOWS THOUSANDS OF SAME ISSUES. BOLTS USED ARE VERY THIN FOR WHAT THEY DO. *TR
STEEL BRAKE, FUEL AND TRANSMISSION LINES ARE EXTREMELY RUSTY AND FAILURE APPEARS TO BE IMMINENT, ESPECIALLY ON BRAKE LINES. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
BRAKES BECAME VERY SPONGY WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I STOPPED IN MY DRIVEWAY I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE TRUCK. WHEN I CHECKED WHERE THE LEAK WAS I DISCOVERED MY BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED FROM FRONT TO BACK! THEY HAVE LEAKED THROUGH UNDER THE CAB. THIS LOOKS LIKE AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND IS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY HAD THE COMPANY NOT USED SUCH CHEAP MATERIAL TO SAVE THEMSELVES SOME MONEY. THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT BE IN THE RUSTY CONDITION THAT EXIST ON THIS TRUCK. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AT ABS UNIT UNDER DRIVER SIDE FLOOR PANEL. TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING. LUCKILY, WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN IT HAPPENED AND USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. ALL BRAKE LINES AT THIS POINT VERY BADLY CORRODED AND WERE REPLACED. MECHANIC SHOWED ME THAT LINES AT THIS POINT WERE PAPER THIN FROM CORROSION AND LUCKY THAT THEY HADN'T RUPTURED CAUSING AN ACCIDENT BEFORE THIS. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINES. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED WHEN THE FIRST LINE OF THE DUAL SYSTEM FAILED, THE SECOND SYSTEM RECEIVED ADDITIONAL PRESSURE WHICH CAUSED THAT ONE TO FAIL TOO. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, A HUMMING SOUND EMITTED FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THAT BECAME LOUDER WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE HYDRO BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V043000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 216,000.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET WENT TO HIT MY BRAKES AND THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO WARNING NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH AT ALL TOOK ME A CITY BLOCK TO STOP MY EMERGENCY BRAKE BARELY WORK I'M GLAD I WAS NOT IN DC LIKE I WAS AN HOUR BEFORE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT
I WAS TRAVELING HOME FROM DROPPING MY DOG OFF AT HIS GROOMER. I WENT TO BRAKE COMING TO AN INTERSECTION TO PREPARE FOR A CHANGE IN THE LIGHT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT DOWN TO THE FLOOR WITH NO WARNING LIGHT IN THE GAUGES OR INFORMATION SYSTEM UNTIL AFTER THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. I HAD VERY LITTLE BRAKING AT ALL AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO MY RESIDENT WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS BEING FILED BY OTHER CHEVY SILVERADO OWNERS. WHEN IS GM GOING TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR FAILING PARTS ON ALL OF THEIR VEHICLES? I WAS A LUCKY INDIVIDUAL THAT IT WAS EARLY MORNING AND VERY LITE TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD I WAS TRAVELING. *TR
IN MARCH WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 CHEVY 3500 DIESEL TRUCK THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS INSIDE THE CAB LIT UP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS FEELING SPONGY. I TOOK IT INTO CLASSIC AUTO GROUP MENTOR FOR SERVICE. A WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER ITEMS AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS GOOD TO GO. I PICKED IT UP. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STILL SPONGY AND THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE STILL ON. ON APRIL 22, I RETURNED TO THE CLASSIC AUTO GROUP CHEVY SERVICE TO AGAIN HAVE THE BRAKES SERVICED. THEY BILLED ME $1400.00 TO CHANGE A VALVE, A MODULE AND SOME SCREWS. THE BRAKES NOW GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING. THERE IS NO EFFECTIVE BRAKING ABILITY. WITH NO EFFECTIVE BRAKING THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE NOT LIT UP. CLASSIC AUTO GROUP CHEVY IN MENTOR SAYS THAT THIS IS NORMAL. THIS IS NOT HOW THE BRAKES WORKED BEFORE THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. THEY WORKED LIKE BRAKES ON ANY VEHICLE. CLASSIC AUTO GROUP MENTOR SAYS THAT I SHOULD JUST GET USED TO IT. BRAKES FAILED UNDER HARD STOP (HIGHWAY, IN MOTION) TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH DEER. MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS MODULE STEEL BRAKE LINE FAILED IN A MODE OF RUPTURE DUE TO CORROSION. ALL OTHER STEEL LINES WERE CORRODED AND CONTACTED GM. 2 OTHER SILVERADO LINE VEHICLES OWNED ALSO FAILED THIS YEAR DUE TO CORROSION. GM RESPONSE WAS THAT NO RECALL EXISTED. REPLACED ALL STEEL BRAKE LINES IN VEHICLE WITH STAINLESS AFTERMARKET LINES. AFTER MULTIPLE CONTACTS WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE, I WAS TOLD TO SAVE MY RECEIPTS FOR REPAIRS. THIS IS AN INCORRECT MATERIAL SPECIFICATION, LATENT DEFECT AND GM NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. 3 VEHICLES THAT I OWN WITH THE SAME REPAIR IN 8 MONTHS. INEXCUSABLE!
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY I EXITED THE OFF RAMP AND DEPRESSED THE PEDAL. THE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK MAINTAINED ABOUT 15% STOPPING POWER ENOUGH TO JUST GET IT STOPPED BEFORE I WOULD HAVE ENTERED A BUSY INTERSECTION AND WOULD HAVE PROBABLY BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR KILLING AND SLAMMING 6,000 POUNDS OF METAL INTO SOMEONE CHILDREN. I KNOW SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME TRUCK WITHIN 2 YEARS AND ALL HAVE SUFFERED THE SAME PROBLEM OR HAD IT FIXED OUT OF FEAR. IT'S NOT HOW IT'S WHEN.... *TR
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE INJECTORS ISSUE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE INJECTORS WERE REPLACED IN 2010, AND NOW THEN NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN.
SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY RPM GAUGE READS 6PM THERE IS NO ACCIDENT INVOVLED

THE TECHNICIAN NOTIFIED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A HOLE WITHIN THE TRANSFER CASE AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
HI, NOT SURE IF YOU ARE AWARE, BUT THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BRAKE LINES. ON 2/21/15, MY SON WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK (VIN# [XXX]). HE WAS ABOUT 3 MILES FROM HOME WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO AN AUTO MECHANIC AND HE SAID ALL THE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT. ONE LINE BURST, BUT ALL NEEDED REPLACING. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 36,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. I AM GLAD THAT NO ONE WAS KILLED OR INJURED. I AM SURE YOU ARE AWARE THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BY GM/CHEVROLET. I DID SOME RESEARCH THROUGH THE NTSB, AAA, EDMUNDS, AND MOTOR TREND AND THEY ALL SEEM TO THINK THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN YEARS. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, TRAFFIC CAME TO A SUDDEN HALT. I HIT MY BRAKES, WHICH FELT FUNNY, SO I PUMPED AND THE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I SWERVED INTO AN APARTMENT COMPLEX WITH A CIRCULAR DRIVEWAY AND THANK GOD THERE WERE NO CARS OR PEOPLE IN MY PATH. I USED THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP MY TRUCK. CONTRARY TO THE STATEMENT BEING MADE BY GM, THAT YOU STILL HAVE BRAKES, THIS IS BULL, THE PEDDLE GOES TO THE FLOOR. AFTER BEING QUOTED FROM THE DEALER, THAT MY TRUCK NEEDED ROTORS, CALIPERS, (OF WHICH THIS IS THE THIRD TIME) PADS, ALL FUEL LINES AND ALL BRAKE LINES, WITH A TOTAL PRICE OF $5,600 PLUS, I DECIDED TO CHECK FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH GM TRUCKS. I WAS SHOCKED TO SAY THE LEAST AND THEN ANGRY. WHO THE HELL IS BELIEVING ALL OF THE EXCUSES FROM GM. I HAVE BEEN AROUND CARS ALL MY LIFE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES DON'T FAIL ON THIS SCALE. A MONTH OR TWO AGO THE HEATING SYSTEM STAYED BLOWING WHILE IN OFF POSITION AND EVEN WHILE THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF, KEPT KILLING THE BATTERY SO IT HAD TO BE DISCONNECTED. REAR WINDOW WILL ROLL DOWN AT START UP. RADIO WILL SQUEAL AT START UP AND HAD TO BE TURNED ON OR OFF FROM THE CENTER CONSOLE. THIS WEEK THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND CHECK TIRE. PERIODICALLY THE SERVICE STABILITY LIGHT WILL BLINK ON. TODAY THE WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF. VERY WORRIED THAT IT WILL ACCELERATE, CATCH FIRE OR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE AN APT FOR REPAIR ON MONDAY. IS THE ELECTRICAL PANEL A CATEGORY INCLUDED INT HE RECALLS? *TR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS LITTLE BRAKING EFFORT AVAILABLE. AVOIDED A SEVERE ACCIDENT BY SWERVING INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE NEARLY COLLIDING WITH ANOTHER ONCOMING VEHICLE. SLOWED VEHICLE WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING. CAUSE WAS RUPTURED BRAKE LINE DUE TO CORROSION. ALL LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED. *TR
MY TRUCK WAS STANDING IN TRAFFIC WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN SUDDENLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROLLER FOR THE TRAFFICATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD TOWING MY TRAILER AND WENT TO STOP AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT THE FLOOR I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF ROAD IN THE GRASS AND SLOW DOWN TO A STOP LOOKED UNDER TRUCK DRIVERS SIDE NEAR FRONT AND BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING OUT AT THE PLASTIC BRACKETS THE WERE RUSTED VERY BADLY ALL THE LINES. I WAS A GM MECHANIC FOR 10 YRS OF MY LIFE AND THIS IS THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN. I CAN TELL ALL THE LINES NEEDS REPLACEING THEY ARE ALL THE BENDS ARE VERY RUSTED FROM FRONT TO BACK .
AFTER CHECKING THE UNDERSIDE OF MY 04 SILVERADO 1500 4X4 FOR A FUEL FILTER( WHICH IT DOESN'T HAVE) I NOTICED THE BRAKE LINES TO BE SEVERELY CORRODED. MOST OF THE WORST AREAS WERE IN THE BENDS AROUND THE FRAME FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER AND ALONG THE FRAME. *TR
WHILE EXITING A PARKING LOT, I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP BEFORE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR SUDDENLY AND WITH NO WARNING. MY TRUCK WENT OUT INTO THE ROAD WHERE I QUICKLY TURNED HARD RIGHT TO AVOID CROSSING THE ROAD. I THEN USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO PULL OVER AND STOP. I AM A MECHANIC BY TRADE, AND I KNEW RIGHT AWAY WHAT HAD HAPPENED. MY TRUCK IS IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION AS I AM ONLY THE SECOND OWNER. THE FIRST OWNER HAD GARAGE KEPT THIS VEHICLE AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED. I DO NOT PLOW SNOW OR OFF-ROAD IT. I HAD A GM CERTIFIED MECHANIC FIX THE TRANSFER CASE ISSUE (GM ALSO KNOWS ABOUT THIS) LAST SUMMER. HE INSPECTED MY TRUCK THEN AND FOUND NOTHING TO BE ALARMED ABOUT. I DID TALK TO HIM ABOUT THE BRAKE LINES, TO WHICH HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD TO REPLACE HIS IN HIS 2004 SUBURBAN. TWO OTHER FRIENDS OF MINE THAT BOTH HAVE 2004 TAHOES, HAD TO REPLACE THEIR BRAKE LINES DUE TO THE EXACT ISSUE. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW HAS A 2006 SILVERADO, HE REPLACED HIS LINES LAST YEAR, AGAIN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND GM WON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR OWN PRODUCT? I HAVE BEEN A GM OWNER SINCE I COULD DRIVE. I WON'T BE ANYMORE! I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT A RECALL OR SOME TYPE OF ACTION IS NOT BEING DONE. *TR
I BACKED UP TO HOOK MY TRUCK UP TO THE TRAILER, AS I PULLED AHEAD I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING DIRECTLY UNDER THE DRIVER FROM THE BRAKE LINE THAT WENT OVER THE FRAME INTO THE ABS. *TR
AS I WAS LEAVING A SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT WITH MY FAMILY IN VEHICLE, I APPLIED BRAKES AND WITHOUT WARNING BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND I HAD A DIFFICULT TIME STOPPING VEHICLE. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE USING EMERGENCY BRAKE, GOT OUT OF VEHICLE TO TRY TO DETERMINE WHY BRAKES FAILED AND SAW BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH TRUCK JUST UNDER THE CAB. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES (AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LINES) WERE RUSTED VERY BADLY AND ONE OF THEM HAD RUPTURED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED VERY WELL AND HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN AN AVERAGE OF 4000 MILES YEARLY WITH VERY LIMITED EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THESE BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD THIS FAILURE. IT IS ALSO MY OPINION THAT THE TYPE OF MATERIALS USED FOR THESE BRAKE LINES ARE NOT ADEQUATE FOR THIS APPLICATION AND ARE A SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE OWNED OTHER VEHICLES WHICH WERE MUCH OLDER AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE NOW. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OTHER GM TRUCKS OF THIS YEAR AND FEEL GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPLACE THESE BRAKE LINES AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. DRIVING A WELL MAINTAINED TWO WHEEL DRIVE 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 CREW CAB PICKUP AT 30 MPH ON A SUBURBAN ROADWAY. I APPLIED HARD BRAKING AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO LOW 1 AND APPLY E-BRAKE TO STOP BEFORE CRASH. EXAMINATION OF STEEL BRAKE LINES FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS MODULE UNDER THE DRIVERS FLOOR SHOWED EXCESSIVE CORROSION AS REASON FOR FAILURE. THE LINES THAT WERE SPECIFICALLY AFFECTED TRAVEL OVER DRIVER SIDE FRAME RAIL AND ARE OUT OF SIGHT FOR ROUTINE VISUAL INSPECTION. THIS VEHICLE OPERATED IN THE "SALT BELT" (NEW ENGLAND) AND ROAD SPRAY FROM THE LEFT FRONT TIRE DIRECTLY IMPACTS THIS AREA. AFTER REPLACING ALL STEEL LINES WITH STAINLESS LINES (OVER $500.00 IN PARTS & LABOR) THE BRAKE SYSTEM WORKED AS DESIGNED. *TR
CATASTROPHIC BRAKE LOSS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, TRIED TO PUT ON BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY MANAGED TO AVOID COLLISION. LIMP TRUCK OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED TOW TRUCK. WHILE WAITING FOR TOW TRUCK NOTICE BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING UNDER THE TRUCK IN THE AREA OF THE FIREWALL. LOOKS AS IF BRAKE LINE RUSTED CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. VERY LUCKY NO TO HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. TRUCK IS 10 YEARS OLD AND HAS EXCELLENT CONDITION. *TR
