THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT THEN DEPRESSED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND AVOID CRASHING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A FOUR FOOT TALL CURB AND THE TRANSMISSION PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM GOING OVER. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE CONTACT, WHO WAS AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. HE DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROCKER PANELS LOCATED UNDER THE DOORS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DID NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE STEEL INSIDE THE ROCKER PANEL WAS NOT PAINTED AND CONTRIBUTED TO THE RUSTING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILIABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
REPLACED ALL BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH 107,000 MILES ON A 2004 TRUCK. ALUMINUM WHEELS ARE PITTED APPEARS TO BE LOSING THE COATIING THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR IS SHOWING RUST. HEADLINER IS FALLING DOWN IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE REAR RADIO SPEAKERS ARE NOT WORKING
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL GAUGES QUIT WORKING. TRUCK HAS LITTLE LESS THAN 14,000 MILES ON IT. THROUGH INTERNET SEARCH DISCOVERED THAT A SPECIAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BUT DID NOT RECEIVE ONE. NOTICED THAT IT ONLY COVERS 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES FOR GM TO REPLACE. I AM WELL UNDER THE 70,000 MILES AND FEEL THAT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY GM. SPEEDOMETER WAS THE FIRST GAUGE TO QUIT WORKING. ALL SERVICE ON VEHICLE HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY GM DEALERSHIP TO DATE. DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I HAVE TO REPAIR THIS AT MY OWN COST.
REAR BRAKE LINE BLEW WHEN TRYING TO APPLY BRAKES. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS OR ANYTHING PEDAL JUST WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. HAD TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD INTO AN EMBANKMENT TO AVOID A COLLISION AT A RED LIGHT! MECHANIC SAID THAT ALL MY BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ANOTHER ONE WAS TO FAIL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED AN INSPECTION THAT LOCATED THE ENGINE VALVE FAILED AND CAUSED THE ENGINE OIL TO LEAK ON THE MANIFOLD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR TRYING TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR TRAVELING AT 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE , STEEL BRAKE LINE UNDER DRIVERS DOOR RUSTED AND BROKE .
I HEAR CLUNKS IN THE MOTOR COMPARTMENT AND I FEEL THEM IN THE STEERING COLUMN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVER SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ECM BOX WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED IN DECEMBER OF 2015. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,344.
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LS 1500 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND HEATER ELECTRICAL FAILURES. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THE STEPPER MOTORS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ARE GUARANTEED TO FAIL RESULTING IN NOT KNOWING WHAT SPEED YOU ARE GOING OR ANY OTHER GAUGE SUCH AS FUEL, TEMPERATURE OR OIL PRESSURE. GM REFUSED TO FIX PROBLEM WHEN STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I FIXED THE FIRST 2 STEPPER MOTOR FAILURES MYSELF, NOW AT 268,XXX MILES THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH LEAVES ME WITH NO FUNCTION OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND LOSS OF HVAC BLOWER FUNCTION. IT IS NOW WINTER HERE IN MICHIGAN, VEHICLE PROBLEMS STARTED WHEN IT WAS WINTER WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE FAILED THE FIRST TIME. NOW, THE HEATER FAN AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAVE FAILED AT THE SAME TIME! THE LAW REQUIRES A SPEEDOMETER! THIS SHOULD BE MADE A MANDATORY REPLACEMENT OF ALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS REGARDLESS OF MILES OR AGE OF THE VEHICLE. 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LS 1500 THAT HAS THE FAILED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND HEATER BLOWER PROBLEMS. AS A GM STOCK HOLDER I DEMAND ACTION BE TAKEN TO REPLACE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS IN ALL AFFECTED GM VEHICLES AT NO COST. AS IT STANDS NOW, I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT RECTIFIED AT NO COST TO ME!. LOYAL GM CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE BOUGHT GM VEHICLES ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY SHOULD HAVE THESE PROBLEMS RESOLVED AT "NO COST" REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE OR AGE OF THE VEHICLE MILEAGE. I WAS DRIVING ON RT.7 IN SCHENECTADY NY, SPEED WAS AROUND 35MPH, TRAFFIC SIGNAL CHANGED TO RED, AS I WAS APPLING THE BRAKES THE PEDDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR, LUCKY FOR ME THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME, OR IN THE INTERSECTION. MY TRUCK DID ENVETUALLY STOP, BUT IT WAS AFTER PASSING THRU THE INTERSECTION. THE RED LIGHT ON THE DASH DID NOT COME ON TILL THE BRAKES FAILED. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED MAIN BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR WHEELS BLEW DUE TO RUST.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAKING OFF. ALMOST EVERYONE I KNOW IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE V8 GM ENGINES. LEADS TO EXHAUST LEAKS, SENSOR FAILURES AND BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTERS- THUS FAILING EMISSIONS TESTING. HARD AND EXPENSIVE TO FIX.
2004 SILVERADO CORRODE BRAKE LINES. ONE BROKE WHILE DRIVING. NO ACCIDENT. ALL LINE CORRODED. SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY NOTICE SHOULD BE SENT TO OWNERS, MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN HURT. GM PUT CHEAP PARTS IN, OTHER MANUFACTURES ARE NOT HAVING THIS PROBLEM. SEEMS LIKE A BIG PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERN AND IT WILL GET WORSE AS THE 2004-2007 LINE START BREAKING.
CAME UP TO A STOP SIGN GOING ABOUT 30MPH.BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR.HAD TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. MECHANIC SAYS I NEED TO HAVE ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. ALL THE LINES WERE RUSTED TO THE POINT ONE FAILED. THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM ON THIS TRUCK IS NOT DIVIDED, MEANING A HOLE IN ANY LINE YOU LOOSE ALL BREAKS. TRUCK ONLY HAS 57000 MILES ON IT? I CAN'T BELIEVE A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. WHEN SOMEONE DIES I HOPE TO BE CALLED TO TESTIFY AGAINST GM.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DOWNSHIFT THE VEHICLE, COAST ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER, AND APPLY THE REAR BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND CAUSED THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, APPLIED BRAKES TO STOP AT RED LIGHT, BRAKE PADDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP TRUCK. NO WARNING, NO LIGHTS. BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED AND BROKE. HAD MY WIFE AND GRAND CHILDREN IN TRUCK.

PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE DEALER RESET THE UNKNOWN CODES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WAS DISCONNECTED AND THAT THERE WAS AN INTERNAL DISCONNECTION FOR THE AIR BAGS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 06V417000 (AIR BAGS), 06V289000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), 05V043000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND 04V045000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,502.

BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND RUPTURED. BRAKES FAILED RESULTING IN NEAR ACCIDENT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES FAILED TO PASS AN INSPECTION BECAUSE THE TREAD WAS TOO THIN. THE TIRES WERE NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,322 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO THE CLOSEST DEALER WHERE THE COOLANT WAS FLUSHED AND REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CYLINDER HEAD WAS LEAKING COOLANT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.
REAR BRAKE LINE BLEW (ALONG FRAME) PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR NO BRAKES, I WAS LUCKY I WAS OFF ROAD AT THE TIME OF BRAKE FAILURE. TRUCK HAS 21685 MILES. BRAKE LINES SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE TRUCK. I SHOULD OF ONLY LOST THE BACK BRAKES, I THINK THEY MAY HAVE A PROBLEM IN THE ABS UNIT (ECHU)? THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THESE BRAKE LINES, WHY NO RECALL? THIS WILL COST AROUND $1500+ IF I LET THEM DO THE WORK.
BRAKES FAILED SUDDENLY DUE TO SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINES. BRAKE PEDAL WAS SLIGHTLY MUSHY AT STOP SIGN COMING OFF OF FREEWAY. AT THE NEXT STOP SIGN (3-WAY INTERSECTION ON 55-MPH COUNTY HIGHWAY) THE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NOBODY IN THE INTERSECTION OR A SERIOUS ACCIDENT MAY HAVE OCCURRED. APPARENTLY GM'S POSITION IS THAT BRAKE LINES ARE MAINTENANCE ITEM, AND THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS. I'VE OWNED OLDER VEHICLES (INCLUDING A NEARLY 50-YEAR OLD CHEVROLET TRUCK) IN SNOW COUNTRY AND HAVE NEVER SEEN BRAKE LINES THIS RUSTY. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THE RUPTURE DID NOT OCCUR IN AN EMERGENCY BRAKING SITUATION.
I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WHILE TRAVELLING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WITH THE DURAMAX DIESEL AND ALLISON TRANSMISSION. ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2015, SHORTLY AFTER A FUEL STOP, I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 24 NEAR PADUCAH, KY. AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD ENGINE RATTLING, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WITH SOME DIFFICULTY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT ABOUT 25 MPH ON THE SHOULDER. SINCE I WAS JUST A FEW MILES FROM THE PADUCAH EXIT, I LIMPED THERE AND INTO A HAMPTON INN PARKING LOT. AAA RESPONDED AND TOWED THE TRUCK TO ROYAL OAKS CHEVROLET IN PADUCAH. SINCE IT WAS A SUNDAY, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED. THE NEXT MORNING, THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT PULLED UP CODES PO202 AND P2149. THE SERVICE MANAGER REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE AND THAT IT WOULD BE SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THE REPAIR PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I LATER LEARNED THAT THE SERVICE BULLETIN IS #05-06-04-047C. THE BULLETIN ADDRESSES "A SEVERE REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER (LIMP HOME MODE)" I WAS CHARGED $1,076 FOR REPAIRS FOR A KNOWN DEFECT THAT CHEVROLET KNEW ABOUT.
WHILE EXITING OF A HIGHWAY AND TRAVELING 25 MPH MY BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. I PUSHED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT DID NOT SLOW THE TRUCK. AS A RESULT I REAR ENDED A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD NOW WARNING OR CHECK LIGHT FOR THE BRAKES PREVIOUS OR SINCE. UPON INSPECTION I DISCOVERED CORRODED AND LEAKING BRAKE LINES IN THE MIDDLE SECTION OF MY TRUCK.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY. I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I NOTICED I HAD TO START PUTTING THE BRAKES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP, ESPECIALLY ON AN INCLINE. THE BRAKE LIGHT WENT ON AND OFF A FEW TIMES SO I TOOK IT TO A SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKE LINE BLEW AND ALL THE OTHER BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND THE TRUCK IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS TRUCK IS ONLY 11 YEARS OLD, THAT IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 108K MILES. I CALLED A LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY QUOTED ME 3K+ TO FIX IT. IT INVOLVED AT LEAST 20 HOURS OF LABOR AND THEY NEEDED TO LIFT THE FRAME OFF TO FIX. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THEIR ARE NO RECALLS FROM GM OR ATLEAST THEM OFFERING ANY HELP TO PAY FOR THIS. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER ME ANY HELP OR REMEDY TO THE SITUATION, JUST WANTED ME TO FORK UP 3K.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK, DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL ONCE MORE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,527.
I HAD JUST GOT OF THE INTERSTATE GOING ABOUT 65. AFTER PULLING IN MY DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY OUT. NOTHING. APON INSPECTION, I FOUND A RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINE ON THE LEFT FRONT. THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN ABUSED AS I AM ALMOST 70 YRS. OLD. ALL THE LINES ARE FLAKING WITH RUST AND NOW I WILL NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT UNTIL ALL THE LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT A VERY HIGH COST SINCE GM DOES NOT MAKE A REPLACEMENT PART. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN GOOD FAITH THINKING IT WOULD BE MY LAST. IT SEEMS TO ME GM SHOULD AT LEAST STAND GOOD ON DEFECTIVE PARTS. NOW I FIND OUT THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING ALL OVER. THIS IS NOT JUST A FEW TRUCKS EITHER.
I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK TO A FRIENDS HOUSE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAGES STARTED GOING CRAZY THEY SHOWED THAT MY TRUCK WAS OVERHEATING AND WHEN I STOPPED ITS WASN'T OVERHEATING THE THE AIR CONDITIONING STARTED TO GET HOT AND THEN COLD AND STOPPED. KNOW NONE OF THE CAGES WORK. TWO WEEKS AGAIN MY WIFE AND I WENT TO BREAKFAST AND WHEN I WENT TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF IT WOULDN'T TURN OFF SO I HAD TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE RUNNING AFTER BREAKFAST WE WENT HOME AND I DISCONNECTED THE CABLES AND THE TRUCK TURNED OFF . THEN THE NEXT MORNING I HOOKED THEM BACK UP AND IT STARTED BY IT SELF. I AM A 77 YEAR OLD SENIOR AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING . I WOULD LIKE HELP IN TRYING TO FIGURE THIS ALL OUT IT SOUNDS LIKE DEFECTS TO ME I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED SILVERADO TRUCKS AND NEVER HAS ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENED.

REAR BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION. FAILURE POINT BETWEEN GAS TANK AND REAR FRAME RAIL WHERE HYDRAULIC LINE IS MOUNTED ON LH SIDE OF VEHICLE. UPON APPLYING BRAKES, THE LINE BLEW CAUSING NEAR TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE COMING TO STOP LIGHT NARROWLY AVOIDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THERE WAS JUST ENOUGH PRESSURE FOR FRONT BRAKES TO GRAB BARELY STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN CONSIDERING THE COATING TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE IN 2004. THIS TRUCK IS RATED @ 9200 GVW WITH A TOWING CAPACITY OF 10,000 POUNDS. IF THIS TRUCK WAS FULLY LOADED THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC IN THE RIGHT SITUATION.
I WAS DRIVING ON A PAVED SECONDARY ROAD AT ABOUT 40 MPH. AS I APPROACHED A RR CROSSING I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THIS WAS A NORMAL GENTLE APPLICATION, NOT A PANIC STOP SITUATION. I THEN PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND GOT JUST A LITTLE BRAKING ABILITY AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABOUT ONE MILE FROM MY HOME, SO I TURNED AROUND IN A DRIVEWAY AND VERY SLOWLY RETURNED TO MY HOUSE. I PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER I WENT OUT TO THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED A PUDDLE UNDER THE VEHICLE; I THEN OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A LOT OF BRAKE FLUID SPRAYED AROUND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED & REPAIRED AND HAD THE VEHICLE TRANSPORTED TO THE REPAIR SHOP. THE SHOP SAID A BRAKE LINE WAS RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION, ALSO SAID ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES HAD EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. I DID HAVE ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. IN LOOKING AT COMPLAINTS ON YOUR WEBSITE, I SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON GM PICKUPS; I AM SURPRISED THAT NHTSA HAS NOT FORCED GM TO STEP UP TO FIX THE PROBLEM VEHICLES. NOW THAT MY TRUCK IS FIXED, I AM STILL CONCERNED ABOUT ALL OF THE OTHER GM PICKUP TRUCKS ON THE ROAD THAT HAVE SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINES. THIS PROBLEM IS TOO SERIOUS FOR NHTSA TO IGNORE.

FORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED ONLY GOING 25 MILES AN HOUR IN A SUBURBAN SETTING. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH BRAKES BEFORE.
AS TRAFFIC SLOWED AHEAD OF ME I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I THEN USED MY PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. I STOPPED AN INCH AWAY FROM THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. UPON INSPECTION THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE BRAKE LINE FAILED AND THE OTHER BRAKE LINES WERE ALSO RUSTED BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE ALSO SAID THE FUEL LINES WERE RUSTED AND SHOULD BE REPLACED SOON. I WAS VERY LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME . I COULD HAVE INJURED OTHER PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME.
I WAS TOWING MY RV. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. SCARED THE BLANK OUT OF ME SINCE I HAD MY WIFE AND TWO KIDS WITH ME. THE BRAKE LINE FOR THE REAR BRAKES BLEW DUE TO CORROSION. THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED US WAS THE TRAILER BRAKES OR WE WOULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. GM IS SO CHEAP THEY BUILD THEIR BRAKE SYSTEM WITH LINES THAT EASILY CORRODE IN STEAD OF STAINLESS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE INTERNET IS LITTERED WITH THIS ISSUE. THERE SHOULD BE A REGULATION FORCING MANUFACTERS TO USE CORROSION PROOF BRAKE LINES. RIDICULOUS!!!
THE TRUCK WAS BOUGHT NEW IN SOUTH CAROLINA IN 2004 AND HAS ONLY TRAVELED TO "SNOW BELT" STATES IN THE WINTER LESS THAN A DOZEN TIMES IN PAST 11 YEARS. ON 7/23/15, WHILE ON VACATION, THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A SUDDEN LOSS OF ALL BRAKING POWER. FORTUNATELY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK STOPPED IN TIME BEFORE HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF US BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND PULLING THE PARKING BRAKE. AFTER PULLING OFF OF THE ROAD AND OPENING THE HOOD, WE DISCOVERED THAT A SMALL FIRE HAD STARTED FROM THE SPRAYING BRAKE FLUID HITTING THE HOT MANIFOLD. AGAIN, WE WERE FORTUNATE TO GET IT DOUSED IN TIME BEFORE ANY MAJOR DAMAGE OCCURRED. ONCE WE FOUND OUT THAT THE FRONT LEFT METAL BRAKE LINE HAD CRACKED, WE CAREFULLY MADE OUR WAY TO ADVANCE AUTO USING THE NEUTRAL AND THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP US WHEN NEEDED. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO PATCH THE CORRODED BRAKE LINE IN THE PARKING LOT OF AUTO AT 8 PM AT NIGHT ONLY TO DISCOVER THE OTHER FRONT LINE WAS CRACKED AS WELL. BY THIS TIME IT WAS TOO LATE TO FIX SO WE MADE A HARROWING TRIP BACK TO OUR HOTEL WITHOUT ANY REAL BRAKES. GOOD THING THEIR WASN'T MUCH TRAFFIC AND WE WERE CLOSE TO OUR HOTEL. THE NEXT DAY WE WERE ABLE TO FIND A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP TO REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE. THEY MENTIONED THEY HAD REPLACED ONE ON A CHEVY SUBURBAN ONLY A DAY EARLIER FROM INDIANA FOR THE SAME REASON. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR THIS ISSUE, I MUST STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH GM WHEN THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES IS SPLIT BETWEEN THE FRONT AND THE REAR AND THAT "SHOULD A BRAKE PIPE SUDDENLY FAIL FOR ANY REASON, THE AFFECTED VEHICLE WOULD BE CAPABLE OF STOPPING WITH THE PRESSURE SUPPLIED BY THE REMAINING CIRCUIT." WE HAD NO BRAKE PRESSURE AT ALL AND HAD NO WAY OF STOPPING. IT WAS ONLY MY HUSBAND'S QUICK THINKING THAT SAVED OUR FAMILY AND ANOTHER FAMILY FROM AN ACCIDENT. I HOPE THIS MATTER WILL BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER.
ON JULY 22, 2015 I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 AND WHEN I WENT TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION THE BRAKES FAILED AND I HAD GO THROUGH A STOP SIGN. I HAD TO HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET THE TRUCK STOPPED. I WAS LUCKY IT HAPPENED IN A HOUSING SUB DIVISION AND NOT ON AN INTERSTATE BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I WAS CLOSE TO MY MECHANICS GARAGE AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO THE GARAGE WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED AND RUSTED THROUGH HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT A BRAKE CALIPER NEEDED REPLACED DUE TO ALL OF THE BRAKE LINE CORROSION. THE MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED ME THAT ALL THE FUEL LINES WERE CORRODED AND ALSO NEEDED REPLACED. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME HE HAS REPLACED BRAKE LINES ON SEVERAL SILVERADO'S ALL DUE TO CORROSION. THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 65,665 MILES ON IT AND WAS SELDOM DRIVEN IN SNOW. I'M NOT SURE WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THESE TRUCKS. IF MY WIFE OR ONE OF MY KIDS WAS DRIVING THIS THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT. THE TOTAL COST WAS OVER $1400.00 TO GET ALL OF THE LINES REPLACED SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.

WHEN I GOT INTO THE VEHICLE TO START, THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER SAYS "UNKNOWN DRIVER". AS A RESULT OF THIS CONDITION, I CANNOT ADJUST MIRRORS, ROLL UP WINDOWS, OR GET HEADLIGHTS TO WORK. ALSO, THE GAUGES FOR VOLTAGE, OIL PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE, AND FUEL DO NOT WORK. THE RADIO DOES NOT WORK AS WELL. BECAUSE OF OVER ENGINEERING AND FAULTY PARTS I CANNOT USE THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPLACED AS PART OF A RECALL. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AS SEARCHED, WITH NO ANSWER. GENERAL MOTORS HAS FAILED TO PUT IN PLACE SAFETY SYSTEMS OR OVERRIDE FUNCTIONS TO ALLOW SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. GM IS USING COMPUTER CONTROLS WHICH OFTEN FAIL TO CONTROL IMPORTANT SAFETY FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE. I CURRENTLY HAVE THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE DISMANTLED THE BULK OF THE TRUCK TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. AFTER TWO DAYS IN THE SHOP, THEY STILL HAVE NOT FOUND THE PROBLEM. FAULTY ENGINEERING AND POOR PARTS HAVE LEAD TO THIS CONDITION. I HAVE BEEN A LIFELONG GM OWNER, BUT I WILL RECONSIDER THIS MOVING FOWARD. I AM SURE MY NEXT VEHICLES WILL BE OTHER BRANDS.

I ENDED UP DRIVING INTO SOME BUSHES TO STOP AND JUST MISSING (2) TREES. IM NOT THE ONLY ONE IN THE US THAT IS HAVING THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH RUSTED BRAKE LINES ON THIS TYPE OF MAKE. BRAKE LINES LEAK DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. . ALL THE LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED MONTHS AGO. THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 50 THOUSAND MILES. I FEEL THIS IS WAY TO SOON FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER LAUGHED WHEN I ASKED IF THIS WAS A WARRANTY PROBLEM.
