AFTER HEARING A NOISE, I WENT TO DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO OIL IN MY UNIVERSAL JOINT. I CHANGE OIL EVERY 5,000 MI WHICH WOULD EQUAL 14 OIL CHANGES, ABOUT 10 OF WHICH WERE DONE BY THE DEALER. I ASKED THE SERVICE REP. IF THE OIL IN THE UNIVERSAL WAS CHECKED AT EVERY OIL CHANGE, AND HE SAID THE MECHANIC IS SUPPOSE TO CHECK IT BUT SOMETIMES THEY GET IN A HURRY. THAT MECHANIC COST ME $1,700.00 . THAT WILL BE THE LAST TIME I WILL SPEND $1,700. ON A CHEVY. *TR
WHEN APPROACHING A STOP-SIGH I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. FURTHER REVIEW REVEALED A REAR BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT. LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A LINE BLOWING OUT IN THE FRONT WHERE I LOST ALL BRAKES AGAIN. BOTH TIMES I HAD IT REPAIRED BOTH MECHANICS STATED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR OF THE SILVERADO AS WELL AS OTHER YEARS. LINES COMPLETELY RUST OUT. I WAS ADVISED THIS TIME THAT NOW MY FUEL LINES APPEAR ALL RUSTED AS WELL. VEHICLE WAS USED IN A SALT FREE ENVIRONMENT AND THIS IS OBVIOUSLY CAUSED BY POOR QUALITY PARTS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM ERRAND RUNNING AND FOUND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. FOUND A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE TRUCK NEAR THE BACK OF THE CAB AND BED OF TRUCK. CALLED MY SERVICE PERSON AND HE SAID IT WAS PROBABLY A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE, AND FROM THE DESCRIPTION OF WHERE THE PUDDLE WAS IT WAS PROBABLY ABOVE THE GAS TANK WHERE THE LINE IS SECURED TO THE FRAME. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE HAS REPAIRED MULTIPLE CHEVY TRUCKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN THE UNDERSIDE OF MY TRUCK AND ALL THE LINES ARE RUSTED, INCLUDING FUEL AND TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES. *TR
I WAS SOUTHBOUND ON INDIANA 63 AT US 41 LIGHT WHEN THE SIGNAL UNEXPECTEDLY CHANGED TO YELLOW. THE PANIC STOP PRESSURE ON PEDAL CAUSED THE LINE FEEDING THE REAR BRAKES TO BURST. I WAS PULLING A HAULMARK TRAILER WITH EXCELLENT BRAKES. THE TRAILER STOPPED THE TRUCK AND PREVENTED A CRASH. CLOSER INSPECTION REVEALED ALL LINES ARE DRASTICALLY RUSTED WHERE THEY RUN BEHIND THE WIRING HARNESS. THIS WAS VISIBLE ONLY AFTER THE WIRING WAS REMOVED FROM IT'S HOLDING CLIPS AND MOVED TO THE SIDE. PROPER REPAIR WILL CALL FOR REPLACEMENT OF ALL BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK. I FEEL THIS IS A HIDDEN DEFECT THAT WILL ONLY BECOME MORE SERIOUS WITH TIME. IT IS NOT VISIBLE DURING NORMAL SERVICING. I INSPECTED THIS TRUCK FOR RUST DAMAGE IN JAN 2013 AND I MISSED IT WHEN I WAS SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FOR SUCH THINGS. THIS SPOT IS HIDDEN BY 3 THINGS, THE WIRING, THE FRAME AND THE ANTILOCK CONTROLLER. I ATTEMPTED TO STOP IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY I WAS ONLY GOING 5 MPH BECAUSE I HAD ALMOST NO BRAKES. I STOPPED AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE. A BRAKE LINE WAS GUSHING OUT BRAKE FLUID. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE BRAKE LINE RUSTED AND DEVELOPED A LEAK WITHOUT WARNING. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO DUAL BRAKE SYSTEMS - I LOST ALMOST ALL BRAKING WITHOUT ANY WARNING. HAD I BEEN GOING DOWN A STEEP HILL, I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. *TR
I BELIEVE THE ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES ON THE 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HAVE INHERENT DESIGN/MATERIAL FLAWS AND ARE UNSAFE TO THE DRIVING AND PEDESTRIAN PUBLIC. I HAD 2 SEPARATE INSTANCES OF CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF ALL BRAKING EFFORT ON THE SAME TRUCK WITHIN ONE YEAR OF EACH OTHER. ON 10/6/2013 WAS DRIVING SAID VEHICLE, MILEAGE 80229, ON A RURAL ROAD WHEN APPROACHING A POINT OF INTEREST. DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL ONCE TO REDUCE SPEED TO 40MPH AND THEN A 2ND TIME TO REDUCE SPEED FURTHER. HOWEVER BRAKE PEDAL LOST ALL RESISTANCE AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. PUMPED BRAKES 4 TIMES AND NO BRAKING EFFORT WAS AVAILABLE. PULLED PARKING BRAKE WHICH WAS RUSTED OUT AND ONLY PROVIDED MINIMAL BRAKING EFFORT. WAS ABLE TO DOWNSHIFT AND REDUCE SPEED TO EVENTUALLY PULL OFF ROAD AFTER APPROX 1/2 MILE. SERVICED BY GM DEALER, REPAIR WAS "REPLACE RUSTED OUT REAR BRAKE LINE AND BLEED" AT A COST OF $850. TECH INSPECTED ALL OTHER BRAKE LINES AND TECH FOUND NO OTHER BRAKE LINES THAT HAD EXCESSIVE RUST. NEW BRAKE LINE IS AN UNCOATED METAL. ON 8/19/2014 DRIVING SAID VEHICLE, MILEAGE 86242, ABOUT TO TURN ONTO EXPRESSWAY ENTRANCE RAMP WHEN TRAFFIC SLOWED. DEPRESSED BRAKE PETAL AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR; WAS TRAVELING APPROX 15MPH WHEN BRAKES WERE LOST. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PILOT VEHICLE AWAY FROM RAMP AND ONTO SHOULDER. PUMPED BRAKES OVER 10 TIMES; NO BRAKING EFFORT WAS APPLIED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. PARKING BRAKE AGAIN PROVIDED NO BRAKING EFFORT. WAS ABLE TO COAST SLIGHTLY UPHILL ON SHOULDER TO BRING VEHICLE TO A HALT AFTER APPROX 250 FEET. SERVICED BY SAME GM DEALER, REPAIR WAS "REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE LINES, TO BOTH FRONT WHEELS AND THE FOUR LINES FROM THE MASTER TO THE BPMV. FILL AND BLEED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. REMOVE RUSTED BRAKE BLEEDERS AND REPLACED" AT COST OF $1180. NEW BRAKE LINES INSTALLED ARE COATED WITH A BLACK PLASTIC OR FIBER. *TR
TIRE FAILURE DUE TO PLY SEPARATION. 50% OF MY TIRES EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. ONE FAILURE WAS CATASTROPHIC, RESULTING IN DAMAGES TO THE TRUCK. THIS EVENT COULD AND HAS CAUSED INJURY AND DEATH FOR OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. TIRES HAVE ABOUT 20,000 MILES ON THEM AND PROPER INFLATION AND RECENT BALANCE. *TR
WITH NO WARNING AT ALL, DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, TRUCK LOST 3RD GEAR. THIS IS THE SECOND CHEVROLET SILVERADO THIS HAS HAPPENED TO FOR US (FIRST TIME, WE THOUGHT IT WAS AN ISOLATED BAD TRANSMISSION) HOWEVER, IT IS OBVIOUSLY DUE TO CHEVROLET MAKING JUNK, AND PUTTING THE PASSENGERS OF THEIR VEHICLES IN DANGER. DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 60 MILES PER HOUR, WITH A SUDDEN TRANSMISSION FAILURE WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.I WILL BE PURSUING THIS FURTHER. *TR
DRIVERS FRONT STEEL TUBING BRAKE LINE FAILED/ RUPTURED SPRAYING BRAKE FLUID IN ENGINE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP . BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR FLUID ON GROUND TRAILING ON THE GROUND BEHIND VEHICLE ONCE AT A COMPLETE STOP. INSPECTED SEVERE CORROSION ON ALL METAL TUBING BRAKE LINES TO THE ABS AND MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. TRUCK UNDRIVEABLE MUST REPLACE ALL LINES. *TR
DRIVING TO WORK PUSHED ON THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. INSPECTED TO FIND A RUSTED BRAKE LINE BROKEN JUST UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR. ALSO THE BRAKE LINES HAVE MAJOR RUST AT REAR WHEEL. ALL OF THE LINES ARE RUSTING AND NEED REPLACED. *TR
HAD NO BRAKES. DISCOVERED RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. *TR
2004 CHEVY SILVERADO ONLY HAS 81909 MILES ON IT AND BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED. BRAKE LINES AND GAS LINES SHOULD NOT BE MADE FROM MATERIAL THAN CAN RUST AND FALL APART. *TR
APPLIED BRAKES AND HAD NO BRAKING AT ALL LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT WITH OUT INCIDENT. HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE WE LEARNED ALL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS MODULE AND FROM ABS MODULE TO FRONT AND REAR WHEELS. I LIVE IN WISCONSIN WE SALT ROADS, WITH ALL THE SAFETY REGULATIONS HOW CAN THEY USE A CHEAP CORROSIVE MATERIAL ON A VERY IMPORTANT VEHICLE PART? I KNOW THEY MAKE S.S. BRAKE LINES. I HAD JUST COME OFF OF A 65MPH HIGHWAY IF THEY HAD FAILED THEN, I MAY NOT BE WRITING THIS. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKE OFF FOR NO REASON, LETTING EXHAUST FUMES ESCAPE UNDER THE HOOD AND IN THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON SEVERAL GM TRUCKS. *JS
BRAKE LINE FAILURE (RUSTED OUT) FUEL LINE FAILURE (RUSTED OUT) BRAKE LINES REPAIRED COST A THOUSAND DOLLARS QUOTE FOR FUEL LINE REPLACEMENT $1200 FROM DEALER. LIVE IN CONNECTICUT
WAS LEAVING MY HOUSE PULLING A DUEL AXLE UTILITY TRAILER TO HAUL 7 YARDS OF MULCH TO A JOB. I GOT TO THE END OF MY LANE AND HIT THE BRAKES TO STOP AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED TO PIECES , THANK GOD I DIDN'T HAVE THE TRAILER LOADED. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED. *JS
WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY, IN TRAFFIC, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD A POPPING SOUND WHICH APPEARED TO BE IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AREA OF THE VEHICLE. ON THE NEXT OCCASION THAT I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE DID SLOW DOWN AND DID STOP, BUT I WAS ONLY TRAVELING AT 5 MPH. AT THIS POINT I WAS USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. BEING CLOSE TO HOME, I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET BACK TO MY HOME. UPON INSPECTION IT APPEARS A BRAKE LINE DRIVER SIDE, JUST BEHIND THE DRIVER HAD RUSTED AND FAILED, EMPTYING ALL THE BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE. I AM QUITE A GOOD MECHANIC BUT THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT FIX AS WELL. THIS TRUCK IS A 2004 AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED. I'VE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE DISCS WARPING WHICH IS ANOTHER CHEVY SILVERADO PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY BRAKE PEDAL GOT VERY SOFT AND MOVED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR, I IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND WATCH UNDER MY TRUCK FOR A PUDDLE. I LOCATED THE LEAK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR HARD BRAKE LINE JUST BEFORE THE RUBBER HOSE CONNECTION. DUE TO THE ADVANCED CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES AND THEIR FRAGILITY IT SEEMS PRUDENT TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES AT THE SAME TIME DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE ONE. *TR
I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK THIS EVENING AND WAS PULLING UP TO THE GARAGE AND THE BRAKES FAILED CAUSING ME TO HIT THE GARAGE. I WAS TRAVELING LESS THAN 5 MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE FOUND BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE DRIVEWAY. BRAKE LINES WAS FOUND TO BE RUSTED IN TWO IN SEVERAL PLACES AFTER HAVING A FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC COME AND LOOK AT VEHICLE. HE FOUND A COUPLE LINES THAT HAD EXPLODED THRU RIGHT UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT ON TOP THE FRAME AND ANOTHER ONE ABOVE THE FUEL TANK. AFTER GOOGLING WHAT HAD HAPPENED THERE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH NHTSA ON THIS PROBLEM WITH GM VEHICLES. WHY ARE WE PAYING YOU PEOPLE TO TRY AND KEEP THE PUBLIC SAFE. THIS IS A VERY ONGOING PROBLEM WITH GM VEHICLES AND NEEDS ADDRESSED PROMPTLY. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, HE ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL SUNK INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES, BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS WERE CORRODED. AS A RESULT, THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RECALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE STARTED THE VEHICLE AND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED IT WAS INOPERABLE. THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT ON JANUARY 8, 2013 HE STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE BRAKES HYDRO BOOST SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
SPEEDOMETER ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED WORKING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM AN ERRAND AND WHEN I SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A TURN I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN MORE THAN USEALL. I CONTINUED TO TRAVEL HOME AND WHEN I STOPPED FOR AN INTERSECTION THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR, BUT STILL STOPPED THE VEHICLE SO I CAREFULLY CONTINUED HOME AND PARKED IN MY GARAGE. WHEN I CAME BACK OUT LATTER TO HAVE A LOOK I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE GARAGE FLOOR. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SEEN TWO BRAKE LINES ALL CORRODED AND ONE HAD BURST RIGHT NEST TO LEFT FRONT WHEEL UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY REPLACED TWO SECTIONS OF BRAKE LINES AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON SILVERADO TRUCKS, BUT NO KNOWN RECALLS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHRYSLER 300. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A BRIDGE. THE VEHICLE TRAVELED OFF THE ROADWAY AND ROLLED OVER THREE TIMES BEFORE LANDING ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE DRIVER AND FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUSTAINED SEVERAL BRUISES TO THE BODY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY WITH THE SEVERE IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. ...UPDATED 10-24-13 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE. THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THE VEHICLE SWERVED INTO THE GRASS WHERE IT STOPPED. THE CONSUMER OWNS ANOTHER BUICK GMC WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4X4 AROUND TOWN I ENCOUNTERED MY FIRST EVER BRAKE FAILURE. FORTUNATELY, NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. I WAS IN TRAFFIC, NEEDING TO APPLY BRAKING. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT NORMAL AT FIRST AND THEN SUDDENLY IT, THE PEDAL, BEGAN SOFTLY AND MUSHINGLY HEADED TOWARD THE FLOORBOARD. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE TRUCK DOWN EVENTUALLY BUT THE DISTANCE REQUIRED FOR BREAKING HAD NOW TRIPLED OR QUADRUPLED. DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. THEN, LOW AND BEHOLD, AND JUST A BIT TOO LATE THERE CAME THE IDIOT LIGHT TELLING ME TO CHECK THE BRAKES. IMPERFECT TIMING TO SAY THE LEAST. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND INTO AN AUTO SHOP. THANKFULLY, THE SHOP HAD LOTS OF CHEVY EXPERIENCE AND WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM THAT CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THE RUSTED BRAKE LINE PROBLEM AS IT IS BEEN IN THE INVESTIGATION PIPELINE FOR A WHILE. *TR
DRIVING THROUGH UTAH AT POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 75 WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, THE SPEEDOMETER SUDDENLY STARTED TO INDICATE A DECELERATION FROM CRUISES SPEED TO 30 MPH. MY VEHICLE DID NOT PHYSICALLY SLOW AS EVIDENCED BY MY GPS WHICH CONTINUED TO SHOW ACTUAL SPEED OF 75 MPH. DISENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL DID SLOW THE VEHICLE WHEN THE ACTUAL SPEEDS WERE 50+/- MPH THAN INDICATED ON SPEEDOMETER. STOPPING MY VEHICLE AND TURNING THE IGNITION OFF APPARENTLY RESET SOMETHING? IMMEDIATELY RESTARTING MY PICKUP SEEMED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THIS SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED FOR OVER ONE YEAR REQUIRING THE CONTINUAL USE OF GPS TO CONFIRM MY ACTUAL SPEEDS. I HAVE A SIGNIFICANT CAUSE OF CONCERN WHEN INDICATED SPEEDS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY FASTER THAN INDICATED. I CONTACTED GM DEALERSHIP, ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY HAVE NO IDEA OF THE PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT CONFIRM THE CONTINUAL PROBLEM. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM I'M ALSO EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE THE FUEL TANK LEVELS. THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND THEY BUSTED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. ON 8/31/13, LANG CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERFORMED THE 75000 MILE SERVICE ON MY TRUCK AND THEY DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES. THE SERVICE INVOICE SHOWS THAT THE BRAKES WERE CHECKED AND WERE ABOUT 20-30% WORN. ON 2/27/12 LANG CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PADS ON ALL FOUR WHEELS BECAUSE THEY WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND CHARGED ME $1253.00. THEY DID SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES. I BELIEVE THAT THE COMPANY IS PURPOSELY NOT WARNING CUSTOMERS ABOUT CORRODED BRAKE LINES. THIS IS PUTTING US CHEVROLET OWNERS AT RISK OF BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS ONLY TRAVELING AT ABOUT 10 MPH WHEN BY BRAKES FAILED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO COMPLETE FAILURE OF MY BRAKES. *JS
THE VEHICLE HAD A BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO A BRAKE LINE RUSTING OUT. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE OF POOR QUALITY. AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE ROTTED OUT. THESE ARE SIZED TOO SMALL DIAMETER TO SAVE WEIGHT .3/16TH CHEAP STEEL, AND THIN WALL TUBING, UNCOATED, UNPAINTED, NON GALVANIZED, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF PROTECTED BRAKE LINE. IT IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. GM DECIDED TO USE THESE CHEAP THIN WALL BRAKE LINES. AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES , AND POWER STEERING COOLER LINES, FOR THAT MATTER ARE ROTTED BEYOND SAFE USE. WHILE THE REST OF THE VEHICLE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL. IT IS JUST BLATENT IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR. TO USE THESE LINES WITHOUT RUST PROTECTION. PAINT AT LEAST. OR BETTER YET, THEY SHOULD OF BEEN STAINLESS OR CAD OR GALVANIZED PLATED LINES. APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP. DUE TO MY DRIVING EXPERIENCE, I DOWNSHIFTED AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP VEHICLE. EXPENSIVE REPAIR OF $3,500 DUE TO EXTENSIVE RUST CORROSION, ALL BRAKE LINES FRONT TO REAR, ROTORS WITH CALIPERS AND BACKING PLATES & PADS. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 64,671 AT TIME OF FINISHED REPAIR. TRUCK ALWAYS SERVICED AND TAKEN CAR OF WITH NEW TIRES, AND BRAKES IN PAST, THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM IF MANUFACTURER HAS TRUCKS OUT ON THE ROAD LOSING BRAKES AT LOW MILEAGES. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. I ENTERED THE TRUCK DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND STARTED THE VEHICLE AS I ALWAYS DO. THE PEDAL THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR. WHILE DRIVING IN MY CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK WITH MY TWO YOUNG DAUGHTERS, WE APPROACHED A RED LIGHT AT AN INTERSECTION. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE AND I FELT PRESSURE BUT THEN THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. I LOOKED UNDER AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE WITH MY HAND AND NOTICE COMPLETELY CORRODED BREAK LINES AND DOT 3 BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM A LINE BELOW THE DRIVERS DOOR. ON FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED ALL THE BREAK LINES AND FUEL LINE WERE GROSSLY CORRODED. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY CONCERN TO OTHERS I'VE JUST NOW REALIZED AND I WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY NAME TO THE COMPLAINT LIST. I BOUGHT MY 2004 USED WITH 116,159 MILES ON IT. I NOTICED THE BLOWER MOTOR FOR THE A/C AND HEATER WOULD ACT UP ON ITS OWN AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE AUTO CLIMATE CONTROL IT HAS. I SMELLED ELECTRICAL WIRING BURNING AT DIFFERENT TIMES BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING BURNT IN THE WIRING AFTER INSPECTING THE WIRING UNDER THE DASH AND HOOD. ON FEB. 25,2014 I WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE AND WHEN I SHUT MY SUBURBAN OFF THE BLOWER MOTOR STAYED ON. I TRIED TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF BUT THE MOTOR STAYED ON. I WENT IN THE STORE AND WHEN I CAME OUT 1/2 HOUR LATER THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING. NOW EVERY TIME I TURN THE SUBURBAN OFF THE BLOWER KEEPS RUNNING SO I HAD TO PULL THE FUSE OUT SO IT WOULD NOT RUN THE BATTERY DOWN. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER VEHICELS. AFTER FINDING OUT THE PART THAT IS DEFECTIVE IS CALLED A BLOWER RELAY RESISTOR MODULE I CALLED THE PARTS STORE TO GET THE PART. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT GET THE PART AND TO TRY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CHEVROLET DEALER HAD THE PART AND I ASKED IF THERE HAPPENED TO BE A RECALL ON THE PART. THEY WANTED MY VIN. # SO THEY COULD CHECK MY SUBURBAN AND SAID THAT MY SUBURBAN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN 'THAT' RECALL. THAT SOUND ALITTLE WEIRD THE WAY HE SAID IT SO I GOT ON THE WEB AND CHECKED MYSELF. THERE IS A RECALL # 10240 THAT DESCRIBES THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH OTHER 2004 SUBURBANS THAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY SUBURBAN TO THE "T". IT SAID IN THE RECALL THAT THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE A FIRE. HAD JUST HOOKED UP OUR 38' - 12,000LB FIFTH WHEEL AND HEADED OUT FOR THE WEEKEND. CAME TO THE FIRST STOP SIGN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY GOT STOPPED WITH TRAILER BRAKES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR BOARD AS THE SERVICE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,296. GM INFOMRED THE CONSUMER, THEY NO LONGER MADE BRAKE LINES FOR HIS VEHICLE. UPDATED 10/23/13
ARRIVED HOME, PARKED VEHICLE, NOTICED FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDER VEHICLE NEAR FRONT OF DRIVER'S DOOR AREA. INSPECTION SHOWED SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINES, AND ONE WAS DRIPPING BRAKE FLUID FROM CORROSION HOLE. ALL BRAKE LINES INSPECTED AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT, WHICH WAS DONE THE NEXT DAY. *TR
COMING HOME FROM WORK AROUND 5:00 IN THE AFTERNOON AND WENT TO SLOW DOWN FOR TRAFFIC SLOWING DOWN AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AS I EASED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. TO KEEP FROM HITTING THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME I HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL AND WENT TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY LANE AND HIT A GUARD RAIL SLIGHTLY DAMAGING MY FENDER AND BUMPER BEFORE COMING TO A FULL STOP. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM ABOVE THE FUEL (GAS TANK) ALONG THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME RAIL. I CALLED AAA ROAD SERVICE AND HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO MY HOUSE SO I COULD FURTHER INSPECT THE TRUCK FOR REPAIRS NEEDED. I AM A DIESEL TRUCK TECHNICIAN AND HAVE BEEN WORKING ON CARS AND TRUCK FOR YEARS. I ALSO HAVE A 1989 CHEVY TRUCK WITH 368,000 AND NEVER HAVE HAD A BRAKE LINE REPLACED OR A BRAKE FAILURE LIKE THIS, AS I INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES I FOUND ALL STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED AND RUSTED AND NEED REPLACED. I KNOW THIS IS GOING TO BE A COSTLY REPAIR! I PULL A BOAT, TRAVEL TRAILER AND A UTILITY TRAILER. IF I HAD BEEN PULLING ONE OF THESE ITEMS AND THE BRAKES HAD FAILED LIKE THEY DID ONLY GOD! AT APPROX. 6:00 AM I LEFT FOR WORK WHICH IS A 15-20 MINUTE DRIVE. AT THE FIRST TRAFFIC LIGHT I NOTICED THE BRAKES SEEMED TO BE LOW. I CONTINUED MY TRAVELS AND AT THE NEXT LIGHT I VERY NEARLY WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP. WHEN I REACHED MY BUSINESS AND APPLIED THE BRAKES IN THE PARKING LOT, THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP IN AN EMPTY LOT. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO PARK MY TRUCK, I GOT OUT OF THE CAB AND NOTICED THE VEHICLE BLEEDING BRAKE FLUID FROM UNDER THE TRUCK. I HAD TO HAVE TO BROUGHT TO MY MECHANIC. UPON INSPECTION HE FOUND ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. EARLY THIS YEAR IN JANUARY I HAD TO HAVE ALL THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES REPLACED IN THE SAME TRUCK BECAUSE THEY ALSO RUSTED OUT COMPLETELY. BETWEEN THE TWO REPAIRS IT HAS COST ME OVER $ 1300.00 FOR A TRUCK WITH ONLY 30500 MILES. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY AT A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER SPEED AND MY BRAKES FAILED IN THIS MANNER, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED. GENERAL MOTORS/CHEVROLET SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND HAVE NOT NOTIFIED THE OWNERS OF THEIR VEHICLES. *TR

VEHICLE TOWED TO GM SERVICE GARAGE WHERE INSPECTION FOUND BRAKE LINE LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE OF FRAME HAD RUSTED AND ROTTEN AWAY. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE REST OF THE LINES WERE POOR CONDITION AS WELL. DUE TO SEVERE RUST ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK FRAME, INCLUDING THE BRAKE CALIPERS, ALL FOUR CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SO THE BRAKE SYSTEM COULD BE BLED. A CURSORY CHECK ON THE INTERNET AND THIS WEB SITE SEEMS TO INDICATE A MAJOR RUSTING PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LINES. *TR

THE TRUCK COULD NOT STOP, AND WENT THOUGH THE LIGHT AS IS TURNED RED. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND STOP. I FOUND FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE TRUCK AND COULD SEE IT WAS FROM A FAILED BRAKE LINE. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND A MECHANIC. I FOUND OUT THAT THE BRAKE LINE WERE ALL RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ROTORS, CALIPERS, BRAKE PADS, E BRAKE CABLE AND SHOCKS WHERE REPLACED. *TR
