WHILE BRAKING FOR A LEFT HAND TURN 55 MPH DOWN TO 25MPH MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR !!!! MY BRAKE LINE BUSTED JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE , I HAND NO BRAKES , I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE TRUCK WITH ME .THANK GOODNESS I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY. I CANT BELIEVE GM HASN'T DONE SOMETHING YET . IT MUST B/C THERE HASN'T BEEN ENOUGH CRASHES OR INJURIES.THIS IS COMPLETE BS !!! I ONLY HAVE 83K MILES ON MY 04 SILVERADO 4X4. (SOMETHING NEEDS DONE) !!!!! *TR
WAS DRIVING 15 MPH IN A PARKING LOT WHEN A PERSON STEPPED IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR REQUIRING ME TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL RAPIDLY (MANY TIMES) WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING THE PERSON. VERY SCARY! I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK NEW AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED! THERE ARE SO MANY TIMES I OR SOMEONE ELSE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THE BRAKES HAD FAILED AT ANOTHER TIME. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE (BRAKE LINE RUST) FOR A 9 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH ONLY 89,100 MILES. CHEVROLET SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE!. *TR
STOP LIGHT CHANGED, APPLIED BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. BLEW BRAKE LINE. LUCKY NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME!!!!!!! WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO RECALL THIS PROBLEM! *TR
THE FORWARD BRAKES LINES WHICH WERE SHOWING SIGNS OF LIGHT SURFACE RUST THREE YEARS AGO ARE NOW HEAVILY CORRODED AND PITTED AND ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF FLUID LEAKAGE. I DISCOVERED THE CONDITION JUST IN TIME WHILE WALKING PAST THE TRUCK IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. THE LIGHT HAPPEN TO BE HITTING THE LINES JUST RIGHT AND I NOTICED THE CONDITION OF THE RUN OF FOUR BRAKE LINES WHICH ARE MOUNTED TO THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE BEHIND THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. I AM NOW IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE HARD BRAKE LINES WITH STAINLESS. THIS IS A BABIED VEHICLE WHICH SEES ABOUT 5000 MILES OF USAGE A YEAR AND DOES NOT SEE THAT MUCH SNOW OR ROAD SALT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR BOARD AS THE SERVICE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE BRAKE LINES WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,100. *TR
I WAS MOVING MY TRUCK INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND WENT TO PUSH THE BRAKE DOWN AND IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE BREAK LINES ARE RUSTED AND ONE SPRANG A LEAK. LUCKILY I WASN'T GOING REAL FAST. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND JUST TO REPLACE THE BACK BRAKE LINES COST $800. THE SERVICE GUY TOLD ME IF I WANTED TO REPLACE THE FRONT BREAK LINES THEY WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE THE FRONT CLIP AND TAKE THE CAB OFF THE FRAME FOR A TOTAL COST OFF $2,300.00. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE STEERING BOX, PITMAN ARM, OUTER TIE ROD ON BOTH ENDS AND THE UPPER BALL JOINT. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE LEAKING. THE BRAKE LEAK FAILURE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
WHILE DRIVING A DEER RAN OUT IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE TRUCK STOPPED AND THEN THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE FLUID ONLY TO FIND IT LEAKING ON THE GROUND. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED AND CALLED A CHEVY TECH I KNOW AND WAS TOLD THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM. REPLACEMENT PARTS AS AN ASSEMBLY ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE! YOU BUY THE LINES AND HAVE TO HAVE THEM BENT TO FIT..A ROUGH PRICE $1,000 TO $1,600.00. *TR
ALL BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY CORRODED. *TR
I WENT TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. AFTER LOOKING AT IT, IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE REAR BRAKES RUPTURED CAUSING ME TO LOSE ALL BRAKES. THE LINES WERE ALL RUSTED AND AFTER DOING A LITTLE LOOKING ONLINE IT APPEARS THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR RANGE TRUCK. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING NORTH ON ORRS BRIDGE ROAD (ENOLA, PA) I WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP MY VEHICLE AT THE RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION WITH WERTZVILLE RD. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP WHEN MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKES. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES STOPPED OR TRAVELING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AT THE TIME AND I WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND STOP THE VEHICLE USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE I OBSERVED THAT BOTH A FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINE HAD FAILED DO TO SIGNIFICANT RUSTING. I ALSO OBSERVED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES MOUNTED IN THE LOCATIONS OF THE FAILED LINES WERE ALSO RUSTED AND WHERE CLOSE TO FAILURE. HAD THERE BEEN ANOTHER VEHICLE STOPPED OR TRAVELING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, AN ACCIDENT WOULD MORE THEN LIKELY OCCURRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE CONTACT TRAVELED THROUGH A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHERE THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT BRAKE FLUID LEAKED DUE TO DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT GEARS, THE BRAKES AND EMERGENCY BRAKES FAILED TO FUNCTION WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE BRAKE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE BRAKES LINES WERE DISINTEGRATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
DEPRESSED BRAKES AND PEDAL RIGHT TO FLOOR. NO BRAKES. HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE AND EVEN WITH THAT SLOWING ME DOWN WAS UNABLE TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT ON A 4-LANE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY THE LIGHT JUST CHANGED AND ON-GOING TRAFFIC NOT YET INTO INTERSECTION. STEERED OFF OF ROAD AND STOPPED INTO A FIELD. HAD TO BE TOWED TO GARAGE WHERE DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT IN BOTH REAR AND FRONT, THUS NO BRAKES (SO MUCH FOR HAVING TIME TO STOP BECAUSE BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WONT FAIL AT SAME TIME). INVESTIGATION WAS THAT SEVERELY CORRODED TUBING AND ALSO DISCOVERED THAT GAS TANK BRACKETS ALSO CORRODED ...ONE COMPLETELY FAILED ALREADY. THEN IT GETS WORSE...THE LINES ARE CUSTOM MADE/BENDED WITH MOLDED IN RUBBER SECTIONS ETC. AND GM NOT OFFERING REPLACEMENTS. *TR
IN DRIVEWAY, STARTED TRUCK, APPLIED BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. GOT OUT, SAW BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING ON THE PAVEMENT ON LEFT SIDE. SAW SEVERELY (INCREDIBLY) RUSTED BRAKE LINES UNDERNEATH. ALL BRAKE LINES AT AND NEAR ABS MODULE TERRIBLY RUSTED, NEARLY DISINTEGRATED. HAD THE FAILURE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, AN ACCIDENT WOULD SURELY HAVE HAPPENED, ESPECIALLY IF TOWING A TRAILER, WHICH I SOMETIMES DO! I LOOKED UNDER MY WIFE'S TOYOTA AND SEE THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE ALL COATED. SURELY GM SHOULD BE USING COATED OR STAINLESS BRAKE LINES. *TR
BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR. WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE BEFORE IMPACTING TRAFFIC. ON INSPECTION, LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON DRIVEWAY UNDER DRIVER'S DOOR AREA AND ALL BRAKE LINES RUNNING TO REAR OF VEHICLE ARE SIGNIFICANTLY CORRODED AND WET FROM LEAK ABOVE WHERE LINES HEAD TOWARD MASTER CYLINDER. CHEVY DEALER HAS NO RECALL OR INVESTIGATION INFORMATION. CHEVY NATIONAL SERVICE LINE WAS NO HELP. WOULD NOT PROVIDE REGIONAL SERVICE MANAGER CONTACT INFORMATION. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING WEST BOUND ON INTERSTATE 88 TOLLROAD NEAR AURORA, ILLINOIS. I HAD MY 3 HORSE TRAILER, LOADED WITH ONE HORSE, IN TOW. AS I APPROACHED A TOLL PLAZA, I SLOWED MY SPEED FROM 65 DOWN TO 35-40 AS I WAS NEARING THE TOLL BOOTH. WHEN I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP MY TRUCK BY PUMPING THE BRAKES, AND USING THE TRAILER BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I PAID MY TOLL, THEN SLOWLY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WAS A STEADY LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID FROM THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK. I NEEDED TWO SEPARATE TOWS, ONE FOR MY TRUCK, AND ANOTHER FOR THE HORSE TRAILER. *TR
THE FRONT BRAKE LINES BUSTED WHILE COMING TO A STOP WHILE PULLING MY 20FT ENCLOSED TRAILER, I HAD TO RUN OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO THE DITCH TO AVOID HITTING MULTIPLE VEHICLES, ONCE STOPPED I FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT BEHIND THE WHEEL. I FOUND THE FRONT BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT AND BUSTED. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, AND VEHICLE WAS HARD TO STOP. UPON INSPECTION, BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. *TR
TRUCK WAS SITTING IN A PARKING LOT WHEN A LEAK WAS NOTICED. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED BECAUSE OF RUST. VEHICLE HAD ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED FOR $1000.00. *TR
APPLIED BRAKES AT A STOP SIGN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. TOTAL LOSS OF STOPPING ABILITY. AFTER USING THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK TO SEE BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK. ALL BRAKE LINES AND THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES CORRODED AND 2 BURST. ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED. CLEARLY THE SILVERADO HAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS AND THE ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE RUSTING BEYOND COMPARABLE YEAR & MILEAGE TRUCKS. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE UNDER CARRIAGE IN THIS CONDITION REGARDLESS OF AGE AND THIS TRUCK HASN'T ACHIEVED 10 YEARS OFF THE LOT YET. *TR
EVERY YEAR WHEN IT COMES TO GETTING AN ANNUAL INSPECTION ON THE TRUCK, I ALWAYS GET THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THE INSPECTION STATION, FAILED BECAUSE OF FAULTY PARKING BRAKE. I HAVE TO PAY A MECHANIC EVERY YEAR TO ADJUST THE PARKING BRAKE JUST SO IT CAN PASS INSPECTION. TWO YEARS AGO I GOT THEM REPLACED AND PAID ALMOST $500 AND THIS YEAR I PAID $100 FOR THE SHOP TO ADJUST THEM. IN THE END, BRAKES WERE ADJUST AS MUCH AS THEY COULD AND THE TRUCK WOULD STILL ROLL WITH THE BRAKES SET. THEY GAVE ME MY INSPECTION STICKER, BUT I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO USE BIGGER BRAKES. GLADLY WE LIVE IN A FLAT AREA BUT TO THOSE THAT LIVE IN A HILLY AREA, THIS COULD REALLY BE A BIG PROBLEM. I RAN A CROSS-REFERENCE, AUTOZONE.COM, AND THE SAME PARKING BRAKE SHOES ARE USED FOR BOTH THE DIESEL ENGINE AND THE GAS ENGINE. THE TORQUE ON THE DIESEL IS MUCH STRONGER THAN THE GAS ENGINE, WHICH I KNOW IS THE REASON THAT THE TRUCK STILL ROLLS. *TR
COMING TO A STOP SIGN AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, MY VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND HAD PREVIOUSLY NEVER DONE THAT. I ALMOST DID NOTSTOP AND IN FACT OVER SHOT THE STOP SIGN BEFORE BEING ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAD MY THREE CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND WAS LUCKY THAT OTHER VEHICLES WERE ABLE TO AVOID HITTING US. AT THE MECHANICS I WAS TOLD ALL MY LINES WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AS ALL ARE CORRODED TO A DANGEROUS CONDITION. *TR
WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AT THE PA STATE INSPECTION STATION THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND A LARGE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID APPEARED ON THE SHOP FLOOR AT THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. UPON INSPECTION WE FOUND ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE VERY CORRODED AND MUST BE REPLACED. I CHECKED THE INTERNET FOR ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS SAFETY PROBLEM AND I FOUND THAT THIS IS A MAJOR, COMMON PROBLEM AND GM SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR INSTALLING INFERIOR BRAKE LINES. *TR
THE BRAKE LINING ON MY 2004, SILVERADO WITH 49,000 MILES FAILED DUE TO THE LINES RUSTING AND CAUSING A MASSIVE LEAK. I HAD NO BRAKE PRESSURE AND LUCKILY IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS GOING FROM PARK TO REVERSE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD AS THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I NOTICED A TRAIL OF FLUID ON MY DRIVEWAY AS I WAS MOVING MY TRUCK AND TRAILER AROUND. WHEN I STOPPED, MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I PUT THE TRUCK ON A SET OF RAMPS TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I NOTICED FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE CHASSIS SLIGHTLY BEHIND THE DRIVER'S DOOR. INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT IT IS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM A SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINE. *TR
WHILE APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION OF A STATE HIGHWAY, I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. ONLY BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND BY GOING AT A SLOWER SPEED WAS I ABLE TO STOP. THE FRONT BRAKE LINE FROM THE PROPORTIONING VALVE TO THE MODULE HAD BLOWN AND THE SECOND BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED OUT. THE REMAINING LINES SHOW SOME RUST AND WILL NEED REPLACING IN THE FUTURE. ALSO THE O2 SENSOR WENT AT THE SAME TIME, TOTAL COST ALMOST $600.00. NOT BAD FOR A TRUCK WITH ONLY 37K MILES ON IT, RIGHT? *TR
GOING TO WORK, BACKED UP AND STARTED DOWN DRIVEWAY. AS I APPLIED BRAKES AT BOTTOM OF HILL, BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR, USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. TOOK TRUCK TO REPAIR SHOP AND HE FOUND THE BREAKS LINES RUSTED AND LEAKING WITH ONE ALREADY SPLIT. WITH THE CONDITION OF ALL THE LINES, KNOWING THAT IF HE ONLY REPAIRED THE ONE BROKEN, THERE WAS STILL A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE ANY OF THE OTHER LINES COULD GO AT ANYTIME. I HAD HIM REPLACE ALL 33 FEET OF BRAKE LINE AT A COST OF $395.46. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH LEAKING ALL BRAKE FLUID WHILE TRAVELING 65+ ON THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE. I AM MAKING THIS REPORT TO CONFIRM BRAKE PROBLEMS ON 2004 SUBURBANS AS WAS RECENTLY REPORTED IN THE NEW YORK TIMES. COST TO REPAIR WAS IN EXCESS OF $1000. GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER A RECALL AND POSSIBLY CONSIDER USUALLY STAINLESS STEEL TUBING FOR THE BRAKE LINES! *TR
BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY , HAD TO STOP VEHICLE WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THEY RUPTURED. SEEMS AS THOUGH THE LINES ON THE VEHICLE ARE MADE OF A VERY POOR QUALITY STEEL AND NOT PROPERLY COATED TO PREVENT CORROSION. VEHICLE IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD WITH 23,000 MILES. *TR
I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC FOR ABOUT 3MI. WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME ON THE REAR BUMPER. THANK GOODNESS I WAS MOVING VERY SLOWLY WHEN I HIT HIM AND THERE WAS NOW DAMAGE TO EITHER VEHICLE. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK AND NOTICED A POOL OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND AFTER THE MECHANIC DID AN INSPECTION HE TOLD ME HE WAS SURPRISED THAT I HAD MADE IT THIS LONG.HE SHOWED ME THE LINES WHEN HE HAD IT ON THE LIFT AND ALTHOUGH THE REAR BRAKE LINE RUPTURED, ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE AND MUST BE REPLACED. I ASKED HIM WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE LINES TO RUST SO QUICKLY AND HE TOLD ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF TRUCK . HOW COULD CHEVROLET ALLOW SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE TO EXIST. MUST SOMEONE DIE BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED. *TR

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT BRAKE FLUID ON WAS LEAKING AND THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

THIS TRUCK HAS A VERY SEVERE PROBLEM WITH ALL PARTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE MOTOR ROTTING MY REPAIRS FOR ALL ROTTING PARTS 2100.00 THESE PROBLEMS ARE UNACCEPTABLE AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY GM . SPONTANEOUS FRONT AND REAR BRAKE FAILURE ON A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 LT PICKUP TRUCK. I WAS PULLING UP TO MY DRIVEWAY AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I TRIED TO PUMP THE BRAKE WITH NO SUCCESS. NO PRIOR BRAKE LEVEL OR ABS OR PROPORTIONING VALVE WARNING LIGHTS WERE INDICATED. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CAME TO A STOP. ONCE I PARKED THE TRUCK I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING DOWN BELOW THE DRIVER'S DOOR. I CRAWLED UNDER TO DISCOVER THAT ALL FOUR STEEL BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND FLUID WAS STEADILY COMING OUT. A LARGE PUDDLE UNDER THE TRUCK HAD ACCUMULATED OVER A SHORT TIME. I NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO SEVERELY RUSTED IN THE SAME AREA. I AM 65 YEARS OLD AND HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER MY LIFETIME (INCLUDING CLASSIC CARS), BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST AS BAD AS THESE. I AM EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I WASN'T ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO MAKE A QUICK STOP FOR TRAFFIC AHEAD. MORE SERIOUSLY THAN THE RUSTED LINES IS THE FACT THAT NO PRIOR WARNING WAS GIVEN BEFORE TOTAL FAILURE. DUAL MASTER CYLINDERS AND ISOLATED FRONT AND REAR LINES DID NOT PERFORM AS DESIGNED. I HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERNET TODAY AND UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. I CAN JUST IMAGINE OTHER PEOPLE/FAMILIES WHO WILL NOT BE AS LUCKY AS ME IF THIS CONTINUES WITHOUT SOMETHING BEING DONE TO WARN AND CORRECT THE SITUATION. BRAKES FAILED - LINES RUSTED - MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT THEY ARE GETTING SEVERAL SIMILAR SITUATIONS A WEEK ON THIS MODEL OF CHEV. HIS IS A SMALL ;SHOP. WHILE THE TRUCK DID STOP, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK TOOK A LONG TIME TO STOP. LUCKILY I WAS NOT IN TRAFFIC. I WOULD HAVE NEVER STOPPED IN TRAFFIC. IN PREPARATION TO LEAVE ON A CAMPING TRIP THE NEXT MORNING I ATTACHED A TAG ALONG TRAILER TO THE TRUCK. WHEN I PULLED FORWARD A LITTLE TO TEST THE BRAKE AND RUNNING LIGHTS ON THE TRAILER AND TO ACHIEVE A MORE LEVEL GROUND, SO AS TO TURN ON THE REFRIGERATOR, MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I COULD HEAR LIQUID LEAKING FROM UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE TRUCK. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, MY MECHANIC REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES AS HE DEEMED THEM ALL UNSAFE DUE TO EXTERIOR RUSTING. WE ARE SO GLAD THAT THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE HAPPENED IN THE DRIVE WAY AND NOT ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. *JS

ENGINE LOST POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEED DUE PREMATURE FAILURE OF DIESEL FUEL INJECTOR. COME TO FIND OUT INJECTOR HAVE KNOWN DEFECT AND HIGH FAILURE RATE. *TR
LAST MONTH AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 1 HOUR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS; MY SPEEDOMETER STARTED DROPPING. IT WOULD SHOW I WAS GOING 35 ON THE FREEWAY. THIS WAS CLEARLY NOT ACCURATE. THE NEEDLE STARTED JUMPING THEN DROPPED TO 0. THE NEXT DAY, IT WAS WORKING FINE. THE NEXT 2 LONG DISTANCE TRIPS I TOOK, THE SPEEDOMETER DID THE SAME THING ON THE WAY HOME; NOT ON THE TRIP DOWN. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS SOME SORT OF CABLE TO THE TRANSMISSION; THAT THERE HAD BEEN A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH THE SPEEDOMETER AND THAT THERE HAD BEEN A PREVIOUS RECALL BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. BOTTOM LINE THE CHARGE TO REPAIR IS 440.00. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND IT CURRENTLY HAS 130,000 MILES. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY TYPE OF RECALL NOTICE, I LIVE IN THE SAME PLACE I DID WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAS CHANGED. HOW IS IT TOO LATE? IF THE PART IS DEFECTIVE, IT IS DEFECTIVE.
