STARTED VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY IN FRONT OF GARAGE, AS I HAD MY FOOT ON BRAKE, WHILE PLACING TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY DOWN TO FLOOR, AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO GARAGE DOOR FRAME, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE ALUMINUM FLASHING ON THE GARAGE DOOR FRAME. ALL ATTEMPTS TO PUMP BRAKE PEDAL YIELDED NO STOPPING EFFECT. FORTUNATELY, THIS EPISODE OCCURRED IN THE DRIVEWAY AS MY INTENDED ROUTE INCLUDED A STEEP HILL ENDING AT A "T" INTERSECTION. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, DIRECTLY BENEATH THE DRIVERS DOOR, THERE IS A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE FLUID APPEARS TO BE ORIGINATING FROM A SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINE THAT SITS ABOVE THE FRAME LEADING INTO THE ABS CONTROLLER. ALL THE BRAKE LINES APPEAR IN THE SAME SEVERELY RUSTED CONDITION.
FIRST TIME BRAKE LINE FAILED MY WIFE WAS AT A FAST FOOD DRIVE THRU AND WHEN LEAVING WINDOW APPLIED BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. TWO BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED GOING TO ABS MODULE/MOTOR PACK. THE NEXT TIME WAS ABOUT A YEAR LATER,HAD MOVED THE TRUCK FROM BOTTOM OF DRIVEWAY TO TOP AND PARKED IT. A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER BRAKE LINE BROKE UNDER DRIVERS SEAT. EACH TIME HAD TO HOLD PEDAL DOWN FOR 5-10 SECONDS TO FIND LEAKING FLUID. THE FLUID WAS APPARENTLY SPRAYING ON THE FRAME AND RUNNING DOWN IT. THE THIRD TIME ANOTHER LINE BUSTED. STOPPED PERFECT AT STOP SIGN IN NEIGHBORHOOD AND WHEN REACHING THE SECOND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NO WARNING AT ALL THREE EVENTS. BRAKE PEDAL WENT FROM NORMAL TO GOING TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO SOFTNESS OR EXTRA TRAVEL PRIOR TO ALL THREE TIMES. THE TRUCK NOW HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT. MY LOCAL DEALERS ANSWER TO WHY THIS KEEPS HAPPENING WAS IT IS 11 YEARS OLD, MAYBE YOU SHOULD TALK TO SALES ABOUT GETTING A NEW ONE. I LOVE THIS TRUCK MINUS THE BRAKE ISSUES
I WAS TOWING MY TRAILER WITH BRAKES ON IT AND AS I WAS STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN THE LINE BETWEEN MASTER CYL AND ABS UNIT BLEW OUT.UPON INSPECTOR ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE I A VERY RUSTED CONDITION MOSTLY AT THE PLASTIC LINE RETAINERS.I AM GOING TO REPLACE ALL LINES TO AVOID A DANGEROUS CONDITION IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *TR
WHILE ON VACATION AND CARRYING A RUCK CAMPER, WITH NO WARNING, BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN LOSING FIRMNESS, GOING NEAR FLOOR. WE WERE ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT BRAKES WOULD NOT HOLD VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE PEDAL DID BECOME A BIT MORE FIRM AND WE DROVE VERY SLOWLY TO A BETTER PLACE TO STOP. THIS TIME THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CAME ON AS WE WERE STOPPING. THERE WAS VERY LITTLE FLUID IN THE BRAKE RESERVOIR AND BRAKE FLUID COULD BE SEEM LEAKING IT UNDER THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK, AND CAMPER, WERE TOWED. DEALER SAYS ALL BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND MUST BE REPLACED. VERY EXPENSIVE - AND DANGEROUS! *TR
TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT STEERING NEEDS TO BE TIGHTENED AND THAT THERE IS POSSIBLY A RECALL ON STEERING COLUMN, EVIDENTLY THERE ARE LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS MECHANISM. FROM SEEING COMPLIANT LISTS. NEED TO KNOW IF THERE WAS A RECALL. WOULD APPRECIATE CORRESPONDENCE ON THIS PROBLEM. FROM GM. *TR
I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CHEVY SILVERADOS AND HAVE HAD GOOD EXPERIENCES SO FAR. I NOTICED BACK IN 2013 THAT MY FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT REGISTERING CORRECTLY - NEEDLE GONE CRAZY. ALL THE OTHER GAUGES WERE PERFECT. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A BAD FUEL SENSOR AND THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD CLUSTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. (OVER $500) I JUST CONTINUE TO RESET MY TRIPOMETER WHEN I FUEL UP NOW RATHER THAN SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DASHBOARD CONCERNS. MAYBE SOME DEFECTIVE PARTS????? ANYWAYS, SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES, THE FRONT STRUTS, THE WATER PUMP, AND RECENTLY THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINES AT $1200 DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. STILL HAVE NOT REPLACED THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER AS I AM WAITING FOR THE NEXT FAILURE. MY OTHER TRUCKS DID NOT SEEM TO FAIL AS MUCH AS SOON. MAY BE LOOKING AT THAT NEW ALUMINUM F150 SOON. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED THROUGH AND BRAKE FLUID LEAKED OUT INTO MY DRIVEWAY. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT I HAVE HAD WITH A BRAKE LINE LEAK WITHIN THE PAST YEAR. VERY POOR DESIGN ON THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM IN THIS VEHICLE.. *TR
I NOTICED THAT I HAD FLUID LEAKING FROM THE UNDER CARRIAGE DRIVER SIDE. WHEN I INSPECTED IT, I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED OUT AND A LEAK HAD OCCURRED. I THEN INSPECTED THE REST OF THE BRAKE LINES TO FIND THAT ALL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND SOME OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE FLAKING WHEN I TOUCHED THEM. I THEN DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE MANY ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE LINES RUSTING OUT ON THE 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE IF I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND LOST MY BRAKES DUE TO THESE LINES RUSTING OUT. THE VEHICLE ALSO ONLY HAS 76000 MILES ON IT. *TR
MY WIFE WAS NEARING OUR HOUSE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. SHE ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET K2500 (N/A) EXTENDED CAB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES BECAME SPONGY AND ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED AND CAUSED BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. THE MECHANIC REPAIRED THE BRAKE TUBING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS CONTROLLER AND ALSO, THE TUBING FOR THE TWO FRONT WHEELS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,520.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE INTERSTATE AND TRAFFIC ABRUPTLY STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, I SLOWED DOWN A LITTLE, BUT THEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND I REAR-ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER THE POLICE REPORT WAS FILED, I GOT IT TO A CHEVY DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT ONE OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS RUSTED AND HAD BURST, SPILLING ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID. THE WRECK DAMAGED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BUMPER, AND BROKE THE GRILLE AND THE HEADLIGHT SUPPORT BRACKET. *TR
OCCASIONALLY, THE BRAKE WERE WOULD BECOME SPONGY AND DEPRESS LOWER. THERE WAS NEVER ANY WARNING LIGHTS. ON THE 15TH OF SEPTEMBER 2013, I WENT TO PICK UP MY BOAT FOR A DAY AT A LAKE. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 70MPH ALONG THE STRETCH OF INTERSTATE TO THE LAKE. I STOPPED BY THE STORAGE OFFICE THEN PROCEEDED TO BACK UP TO GO TO THE STORAGE YARDS ENTRANCE GATE. THE BRAKES DID THEIR USUAL RANDOM LOWER THAN USUAL DEPRESSION. JUST AS I ROLLED UP TO THE SECURITY KEYPAD THE BRAKES FAILED. AT THIS POINT ALL THE BRAKE AND THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS CAME ON. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I DO THANK ABOVE I BECAME ILL THAT WEEKEND AND SKIPPED THE BOAT FISHING TOURNAMENT TO LAKE HURON HOURS AWAY. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTROUS AND TAKEN MY LIFE!!! I PUT FLUID IN IT BUT IT DID NOT HELP. I MADE IT 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD TO THE AUTO STORE FOR MORE FLUID. IT DID NOT HELP. I MADE IT ANOTHER 1/2 MILE HOME BY USING THE POORLY ADJUSTED EMERGENCY BRAKE (PREVIOUS OWNERS NEGLECT PROBABLY) AND THE 1 INCH OF BRAKE PRESSURE LEFT IN THE REGULAR BRAKES. I WAS IN UTTER SHOCK TO SEE THE AMOUNT OF RUST. NOT ONLY THE BRAKE LINE BUT THE OTHER LINES, ALSO. THAT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE EVEN FOR A 2004 TRUCK. I HAVE OLDER VEHICLES THAN THIS WITH VERY LITTLE OR NO RUST ON COMPONENT LINES. THIS WAS INTENTIONAL BY GM? MAYBE TO MAKE SURE TO MAKE SERVICE MONEY ON SUCH A DEPENDABLE VEHICLE? I CAN NOT MAKE UP EXCUSES OR THINK OF ONE GOOD REASON TO JEOPARDIZE CONSUMERS LIVES THIS WAY. AN INCH OF BRAKE USE IS NOT GOING TO STOP THE TRUCK AT REGULAR SPEEDS LET ALONE A TRUCK WITH A PAYLOAD OR A TRAILER. I USUALLY THINK PEOPLE WHO SUE OTHERS ARE OUT FOR MONEY. NOW I AM THINKING OF SUING GM FOR ENDANGERING MY LIFE. THAT SHOULD WAKE THEM UP TO THIS SITUATION. THERE ARE SOME REALLY GOOD CLASS ACTION LAWYERS OUT OF TENNESSEE THAT SUCCESSFULLY FILED AGAINST A MAJOR DRUG STORE CHAIN. I AM CALLING THEM.
2004 SILVERADO 1500 Z71: PREVIOUS OWNER LIVED IN PHILIDELPHIA- WHERE I BELIEVE MOST OF THE RUST CAME FROM. WHILE ON MY WAY TO VISIT MY FATHER IN THE HOSPITAL, MY BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR WHEELS BURST. I HAVE A TENDENCY TO BEGIN BRAKING EARLY, WHICH KEPT ME FROM RUNNING A RED LIGHT INTO A BUSY 4-LANE INTERSECTION. REALIZING THAT SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED TO MY BRAKES, I CONTINUED TO THE HOSPITAL DRIVING CAREFULLY SO THAT I HAD EXCESSIVE BRAKING DISTANCES AND/OR AN AVAILABLE RUN OFF AREA. UPON ARRIVING AT THE HOSPITAL I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED ABOUT TEN SECONDS AND RESTARTED IT TO TEST IF THE BRAKES HAD MANAGED TO PRESSURIZE. UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO ROUGHLY AN INCH ABOVE THE FLOOR AND THE DRIVER INFORMATION CONSOLE DISPLAYED A WARNING, ACCOMPANIED BY A CHIME, INDICATING THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. SO I SENT MY MOTHER INSIDE TO VISIT WITH MY FATHER WHILE I CALLED MY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP SHOWED ME WHERE THE BREAK LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND WONDERED ABOUT WHERE ALL OF THE RUST HAD COME FROM (NOT AS MUCH SNOW HERE IN THE DEEP SOUTH). I LATER HAD MY TRUCK TOWED FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO A PEP BOYS DOWN THE ROAD BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS LYING TO ME ABOUT WHAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND INFLATING THE COST OF THE PARTS. HAVING TAKEN SOME TIME TO LOOK AROUND THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THESE LINES, I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY MANY COMPLAINTS OF PRECISELY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. I AM SORELY DISAPPOINTED WITH GENERAL MOTORS UNWILLINGNESS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. THE MAJORITY OF THE REPORTS I HAVE READ THE DRIVER HAD NO WARNING BEFOREHAND AND THE BRAKE LINE THAT HAD RUSTED THROUGH WAS THE ONE GOING TO THE REAR (ROUTED ABOVE THE GAS TANK) THREE QUARTERS OF THE TIME, OR THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE THE REST OF THE TIME. *TR
DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN I CAME TO NEXT RED LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR. TOOK VERY LONG TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. NOTICED LATER BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED AND LEAKING DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. APPEAR TO BE RUSTING ALL ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE TUBE. LUCKILY NO VEHICLES WERE IN FRONT OF ME AND WAS NOT TRAVELING ANY FASTER. *TR
WHILE BACKING OUT AT A LITTLE LEAGUE PARKING LOT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED/RUPTURED. I DO NOT LIVE OR DRIVE IN THE "RUST BELT". THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE TO INCLUDE PEDESTRIAN OR OCCUPANT FATALITIES. *TR
TODAY ON MY WAY HOME FROM A DOCTORS VISIT I WAS LEAVING ROUTE 509 OFF RAMP FROM HEADING NORTH BOUND IN SEATTLE WASHINGTON. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND AS I APPROACHED THE STOP LIGHT SUDDENLY THE BRAKE PEDAL COLLAPSED TO THE FLOOR CORRESPONDING WITH THE SERVICE BRAKE LIGHT TURNING ON. LUCKILY THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN SO I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. AFTER MAKING THE TURN I DROVE SLOWLY UNTIL IT WAS SAFE TO STOP AS THIS IS A VERY INDUSTRIAL AREA WITH NO PLACE TO STOP. I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, ONCE I WAS SAFE I EXAMINED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND SAW FLUID DROPPING BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER ONTO THE GROUND. WHEN I LOOKED CLOSER I FOUND A RUSTED BRAKE LINE RUPTURE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER BRAKE LINE DEPRESSURIZING THE SYSTEM. I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY ADDITIONAL COMPLAINTS AND HAVE FOUND A VERY COMMON ISSUE HERE AND REALIZED I SHOULD SHARE MY STORY. THE TRUCK IS NOT THAT OLD AND HAVING BEEN AN AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR BRAKE LINES TO FAIL LIKE THIS REGARDLESS OF THE REGIONAL CLIMATES. THIS TRUCK RESIDED PROMINENTLY IN FLORIDA AND TEXAS AND ONLY RECENTLY HAS ARRIVED IN WASHINGTON. I HOPE THIS HELPS AND CHEVY REALLY DOES NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM LIKE THIS. I CANT TRUST ANY OF THE LINES IN THE TRUCK AFTER THIS AND INTEND TO REPLACE ALL OF THEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FUEL GAUGE, TACHOMETER AND THE BATTERY CHARGE INDICATOR FAILED. ALSO, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD ONLY OPERATE SPORADICALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 141,000.
I WAS GOING UP A HILL IN VERMONT AND THE BRAKES LET GO, PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. MY TRUCK SLID BACKWARDS, JACK KNIFED MY TRAILER WHICH SWUNG AROUND AND SMASHED INTO THE SIDE OF MY TRUCK. TOOK MY TRUCK TO HAVE THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE TOTALLY RUSTED WHICH CAUSED THEM TO BREAK. MY GAS LINE IS IN THE SAME CONDITION NOW. IT IS SO RUSTED MY MECHANIC WAS AFRAID TO TOUCH IT FOR IT WOULD BREAK. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND STEPPED ON MY BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR I WAS TOLD THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. I HAD IT REPAIRED AND THEN HAPPENED TWICE MORE. KNOW I HAD TO ORDER SS. BRAKE LINES BEFORE MY WIFE OR SOMEONE ELSE GOT KILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DECELERATE BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FRONT BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED AND CAUSED THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND CAUSED THE BRAKES TO FAIL. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CRUISE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE COMPLETE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS CORRODED. THE CONTACT TRADED IN THE VEHICLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BLOWING COLD AIR AND THE DEFROSTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THE CYLINDER HEAD HAD CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER PROVIDED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
SPEEDOMETER STUCK AT 70MPH AND STAYED THAT WAY FOR A FEW DAYS. AFTER MULTIPLE STARTS OF THE VEHICLE, THE SPEEDOMETER EVENTUALLY WORKED ITS WAY BACK TO ZERO. IT'S NOW HAPPENED AGAIN. AFTER CONTACTING GM, THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSIS, WHICH I DID AND THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE ISSUE THAT GM ISSUED THE CONTRACT ADJUSTMENT FOR, BUT SINCE IT HAS NOW EXPIRED, THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. SO WHY DID THEY ASK TO HAVE THE TRUCK TAKEN IN FOR AN INSPECTION? THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 66,000 MILES ON IT AND I'M VERY DISPLEASED WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. *TR

MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD HAS HAD MULTIPLE BRAKE ISSUES. THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINE HAVE RUSTED OUT. APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AGO I HAD BREAK LINE RUST OUT AND THEY WHERE REPLACED. THEY HAVE RUSTED OUT AGAIN.MY TRUCK IS VERY WELL CARED FOR AND IS CLEAN AND NOT DRIVEN OFTEN. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLY CONVERSATIONS WITH GENERAL MOTORS HOTLINE AND HAVE NOT GOT ANYWHERE. I WAS TRAVELING AT SLIGHTLY LESS THAN THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT WHEN I NOTICED THAT CARS AHEAD OF ME HAD STOPPED. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FLOOR, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AS DID A "SERVICE BRAKES" WHERE MY ODOMETER IS. THE BELL INSIDE THE CAB STARTED TO DING. I HAD TO SWERVE INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET TOWARD THE CENTERLINE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I PUSHED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR HARD AND EVENTUALLY ROLLED TO A STOP. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND MY HUSBAND (WHO WAS IN THE TRUCK WITH ME) HAD ME PUMP THE BRAKES AND BRAKE FLUID POURED DOWN FROM UNDER THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE TRUCK. I CALLED A TOW COMPANY AND THEY TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE NEAREST CHEVY DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WHERE RUSTED AND SOME WERE LEAKING AND OTHERS WOULD SOON BE. THEY SAID ALL THE BRAKES LINES FROM FRONT TO REAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A VERY WELL CARED FOR TRUCK. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT HAD BRAKE LINES CORRODE AND I HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN NEW ENGLAND. *TR

THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AND THE SECURITY LIGHT FLASHES SHOWING THAT THERE IS A PASSLOCK SYSTEM PROBLEM. THE SYSTEM SENSOR THINKS THAT IT HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH AND SHUTS DOWN THE STARTER. AFTER SOME PERIOD OF TIME USUALLY ABOUT 30 MINUTES IT WILL RESET AND THE VEHICLE WILL START AGAIN. AS TIME GOES BY THE PROBLEM BECOMES MORE FREQUENT AND THE TIME OF RESET TAKES LONGER, UNTIL AT SOME POINT IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. CHEVY REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR PASSLOCK SYSTEM, BUT A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER SHOWS THAT IT HAS BECOME A COMMON PROBLEM. BEING STRANDED MAY NOT SEEM LIKE A BIG DEAL, BUT IN SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS, OR MEDICAL EMERGENCY IT CAN BE LIFE OR DEATH. SINCE CHEVY REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM THEY DON'T SEND OUT INFORMATION TO THEIR SHOPS ABOUT HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM SO CONSUMERS ARE SPENDING HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY ON UNNECESSARY PARTS AND LABOR. A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AS I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY (I WAS TRAVELING DOWNHILL) ON 1/3/2013. I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF BRAKES WITHOUT WARNING (NO DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT). I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAD THE LINE REPLACED AT THIS TIME. ON 8/15/2013 I AGAIN EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES WHEN A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED. AGAIN, I WAS TRAVELING DOWNHILL ON A DRIVEWAY/FARM LANE AND WAS ABLE TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO WARNING FROM DASHBOARD LIGHTS. I HAVE HAD THAT LINE REPLACED ALSO. DRIVING DOWN A BUSY 4 LANE ROAD. APPROACHED A RED LIGHT AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP, WHEN PUSHING THE PEDAL IT GAVE FREE AND DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO SWITCH LANES QUICKLY TO AVOID A CAR AND BLEW THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. WHILE I WAS ABLE TO AVOID THE ACCIDENT IT WAS VERY SCARY. UPON INSPECTION OF MY BRAKE LINES 1 HAD BURST AND THE REST WERE SO RUSTED IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME TILL THE REST BLEW. *TR ## VIN FAILED ##
WE HAD A FLAT ON OUR 2004 SILVERADO TRUCK AND WE WERE UNABLE TO DETACH THE SPARE TIRE TO REPLACE THE FLAT TIRE ON THE TRUCK. IT IS WAY TOO COMPLICATED TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE AND FORTUNATELY FOR US IT HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE AT WORK IN THE MIDDLE OF A SNOW STORM SO WE WERE ABLE TO PULL IT INTO OUR HEATED GARAGE TO ATTEMPT THE REPAIR. WE LET IT WARM UP OVERNIGHT AND ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE THE NEXT DAY. EVEN IN A 70 DEGREE HEATED GARAGE IN DRY CONDITIONS WE COULD NOT REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE. I THINK THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE OR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RURAL COUNTRYSIDE IN WINTER OR RAINY WEATHER IF SOMEONE ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE. THE PARTS RUST FROM EXPOSURE AND THE MECHANISM TO RELEASE THE TIRE FAILS TO WORK. FROM TALKING TO TWO TIRE DEALERS EACH SAID THAT THEY HAD TO CUT THE WIRES HOLDING THE TIRE IN PLACE WITH A BLOW TORCH TO EVEN REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE. I ALSO BELIEVE THERE IS A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY THAT YOU HAVE A SPARE TIRE ON THIS VEHICLE IF THERE IS A FLAT TIRE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR YEARS EACH TIRE DEALER SAID AND CHEVROLET HAS NEVER ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. I JUST IMAGINE A 16-18 YEAR OLD YOUNG MAN WHO IS STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD STRUGGLING TO FIX THIS ISSUE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED FIGHTING TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE. THIS IS 2012 AND THEY CAN'T FIND A BETTER WAY TO SECURE A SPARE TIRE ON A PICK UP? *TR
LEAVING A PARKING LOT, I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AT THE STOP SIGN. THE BRAKES INITIALLY WORKED, THEN THE PEDAL QUICKLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. I BEGAN PUMPING THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT INTO THE STREET. I SWERVED TO THE RIGHT, AND ANOTHER VEHICLE COMING FROM THE LEFT SWERVED LEFT TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I BACKED INTO THE PARKING LOT AND TESTED THE BRAKES. EACH TIME I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES WOULD ENGAGE A MINIMAL AMOUNT, BUT THE PEDAL WOULD VERY QUICKLY GO TO THE FLOOR. WITHOUT CONSTANT PUMPING, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE AT ALL. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FOUND THE BRAKE LINES UNDER THE HOOD SEVERELY CORRODED, AND A SIGNIFICANT LEAK FROM A LINE DIRECTLY BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER. MY MECHANIC REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES EXCEPT THE TWO RUNNING TO THE BACK BRAKES. CONTRARY TO WHAT GM ADVERTISES, THIS BRAKELINE RUPTURE RESULTED IN A COMPLETE FAILURE OF BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. IN OLDER SYSTEMS, THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WERE OPERATED FROM TWO COMPLETELY SEPARATE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS. I UNDERSTAND THAT NEWER BRAKING SYSTEMS USE SOME TYPE OF METERING VALVE BETWEEN FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. IT IS CLEAR TO ME THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK AS EXPECTED. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE, AND I AM FORTUNATE THAT THIS DID NOT RESULT IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT. THREE FACTORS PREVENTED AN ACCIDENT. MY SLOW SPEED, MY ABILITY TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT, THE OTHER DRIVERS ABILITY TO SWERVE TO THE LEFT. WITHOUT ALL THREE, A SEVERE ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
THE TRUCK'S BRAKES UNEXPECTEDLY FAILED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TAKE AN EXIT RAMP FROM A MAJOR HIGHWAY ONTO CITY STREETS. THE BRAKE LINES FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO THE REAR AND FRONT BRAKES WERE ALL CORRODED WITH BRAKE FLUID GUSHING FROM THE SYSTEM WITH EACH PEDAL DEPRESSION. THIS WAS A SERIOUS LIFE-THREATENING EVENT. WE WERE TRAVELING WITH OUR FAMILY IN THE TRUCK AT THE HIGHWAY SPEED OF 65 MPH WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. IF IT HAD BEEN DAYLIGHT HOURS WITH MORE TRAFFIC, WE COULD QUITE EASILY HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AS THE TRUCK'S STOPPING CAPABILITY BECAME NON-EXISTENT. WE'VE PAID MORE THAN $2000.00 TO HAVE ALL THE LINES, HOSES, BLEEDERS, FITTINGS REPLACED. EVERY PIECE OF TUBING WAS CORRODED. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED IN A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 53K MILES ON IT. I HAD PARKED MY TRUCK AT A CHRISTMAS TREE FARM. UPON RETURNING TO MY TRUCK, I RESTARTED IT, SHIFTED INTO REVERSE TO BACK UP IN THE FIELD WHEN IT APPEARED TO HAVE SLID IN THE MUD WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES. I CONTINUED UP THE HILL AND HAD ROUNDED THE TOP OF THE FARM CONTINUING BACK DOWN A MODERATE SLOPE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT PROVIDED VERY LITTLE STOPPING POWER. THE BRAKE LIGHT IN THE DASH ILLUMINATED AND A NOTE IN THE DASH INDICATED TO HAVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM SERVICED. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO A GMC DEALER FOR REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT AND REPAIRS WOULD COST BETWEEN $1200.00 AND $1300.00. I WILL CONTACT THE DEALER TOMORROW TO SAVE ALL OF THE OLD BRAKE LINES FOR INSPECTION. *TR
ON 12/14/2012, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71 WHEN I BEGAN TO HIT THE BRAKE TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSH ENTIRELY TO THE FLOOR. WHILE DRIVING MY CHEVY SILVERADO 3500 DUALLY AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, I HAD SO MAKE A SUDDEN EMERGENCY STOP. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH VIRTUALLY NO STOPPING POWER FOR THE VEHICLE. I SWERVED OUT OF THE WAY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND WAS VERY LUCKY. THE TRUCK WENT DIRECTLY TO THE REPAIR SHOP WHICH HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED THROUGH AND ALL NEED TO BE CHANGED. I CALLED THE CHEVY SUPPORT NUMBER TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM AND ASK ABOUT A RECALL. THE REP TOOK THE LAST EIGHT OF MY VIN NUMBER AND SAID THERE IS NO KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE. I TOW HEAVY EQUIPMENT WITH THIS TRUCK FOR WORK, SO IT IS AN ALARMING SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME FOR THE BRAKES TO SUDDENLY NOT WORK WITHOUT WARNING. I AM LUCKY THAT NOBODY GOT KILLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN RTE 3 NEAR MY HOUSE GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR IN MID AFTERNOON. WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY MY BRAKES THE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP. I IMMEDIATELY DEPRESSED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A SAFE STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL MIDAS SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF NEARLY $1,400. I FEEL EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT AT EXCESSIVE SPEED OR THAT ANYBODY WAS IN FRONT OF ME AS THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY OR A FATALITY. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH DRIVER STEPPED ON BRAKE TO STOP VEHICLE FOR STOP SIGN AND BRAKE LINE BLEW A HOLE OUT RESULTING IN BRAKE FLUID DRAINING FROM LINES AND LEAVING TRUCK UNABLE TO DRIVE DUE TO NO BRAKES. GM DEALERSHIP SAID BRAKES LINES WERE RUSTED AND ROTTED IN VARIOUS PLACES. DEALERSHIP COMMENTED THAT THEY ARE SEEING THIS HAPPEN IN MULTIPLE GM PICK MODELS FROM 1999-2006. DEALERSHIP REPLACED LINES WITH NEW LINES MADE OF ALLOY COMPONENT. GM SHOULD HAVE USED THIS COMPONENT IN THE BRAKE LINE IN THE FIRST PLACE AS THERE ARE MANY DRIVERS OUT THERE NOT KNOWING WHEN THEIR BRAKE LINE COULD BURST. *TR
