I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO AND ALL THE DASHBOARD GAUGES STOPPED WORKING. WHEN I CALLED GM THEY SAID THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT NEVER SENT OUT ANY NOTICES. THEY WOULD COVER PARTS AND LABOR FOR MILEAGE OF 80,000 AND BELOW. MY TRUCK HAS 102,200 MILES. I FEEL GM SHOULD STAND UP FOR THEIR PRODUCTS NO MATTER THE MILEAGE. IT IS NOTHING THAT I DID TO CAUSE THE GAUGES TO STOP WORKING. *TR
ENGINE MISFIRES AND IS DOWNGRADED TO 25 MPH ON HIGHWAY. ENGINE KNOCKS AND RATTLES. PROBLEM IS A KNOWN FAILURE ON A GOOD SHARE OF 2004.5 THROUGH 2005 DURAMAX DIESEL TRUCKS WHERE #2 AND #7 FUEL INJECTOR HARNESS FAILS. MFG KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM AND WILL NOT FIX THE TRUCK UNTIL THE PROBLEM HAS SURFACED. THIS PROBLEM COULD RESULT IN REAR END COLLISION ON HIGHWAY. HELLO, I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH 76,000 MILES ON IT, THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE GEAR SELECTOR ILLUMINATION IN THE DASH GAUGE CLUSTER I CAN NOT TELL WHAT GEAR IT IS IN UNLESS IT IS VERY CLOUDY OR DARK, I AM WORRIED THAT THE TRUCK COULD PUT IT IN REVERSE INSTEAD OF DRIVE OR VISE VERSA. *TR
2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 DIESEL TRUCK ON FREEWAY ON 01/25/2010 AND THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER WHILE PULLING A TRAILER. VERY DANGEROUS. CONSUMER NEVER MADE AWARE OF TECH BULLETIN OR PROBLEM. PURCHASED A 2005 CHEVROLET K1500 SILVERADO USED IN 10/2009. IN 01/2010 THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING AT APPROXIMATELY 72K MILES. DEALERSHIP ADVISED US THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN SEVERAL GM FULL SIZE TRUCKS AND SUVS 2003-2007 MODEL YEARS. GM WILL NOT FULLY COVER THE COST TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. WE ARGUE THAT A SPEEDOMETER IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM, THAT THE PRESENCE OF MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS BY THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS PROVE THAT THIS PART IS CONSISTENTLY FAILING. WE ARGUE THAT PROPER OPERATION OF A SPEEDOMETER HAS A DIRECT IMPACT ON THE SAFE OPERATION OF A VEHICLE. WE BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FULLY COVER THE COST OF THE REPLACEMENT AT NO EXPENSE TO THE OWNER OF ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. IF A SPEED RELATED CRASH RESULTED AND THE LIABLE PARTY WAS DRIVING AN AFFECTED VEHICLE, GM WOULD SHARE IN THE LIABILITY OF THAT LOSS. THIS AGAIN POINTS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY COMPONENT THAT IS CONSISTENTLY FAILING IN THOUSANDS OF THESE VEHICLES. *TR
THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE BUTTONS FAIL TO WORK EVERY SO OFTEN. I WAS COMING HOME FROM ANN ARBOR, MI. ONE NIGHT AND MY INDICATOR LIGHT SAID I WAS IN NEUTRAL FOR SOME REASON. I PLAYED WITH IT FOR A BIT AND NO LUCK. MY FRIEND WAS WITH ME AND HE OWNS A REPAIR FACILITY IN SOUTH LYON, MI. HE KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG! THE ENCODER MOTOR FOR THE TRANSFER CASE IS BAD. IT IS AN ELECTRIC ITEM AND FAILS. THE ENCODER MOTOR IS WHAT SHIFTS IN TO 4 HI, 4 LOW, AUTO 4 WHEEL AND 2 HI. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TOWARD THE END OF FEB 2010 WHEN MY TRUCK WOULD NOT SHIFT AT ALL, 2 HI WAS MY ONLY OPTION. ANOTHER FRIEND OF MINE HAS A 2004 SILVERADO AND HER ENCODER MOTOR WENT BAD ON THE FREEWAY. HER PROBLEM WAS THAT HER TRUCK THREW HER INTO 4 LOW WHILE SHE WAS AT 70 MPH. OMG IS THAT SAFE???? GM NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING BEFORE PEOPLE START TO CRASH OR WORSE GETTING HURT AND DYEING AS A RESULT. *TR
MY TRUCKS BRAKES CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED FOR THE THIRD TIME TWO WEEKS AGO. LUCKILY THESE FAILURES HAPPENED IN A DRIVEWAY OR LOW SPEED WITH NO ACCIDENT RESULTS. THE LATEST BRAKE FAILURE HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING, JUST A WEEK AFTER HAULING MY LOADED HORSE TRAILER THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR KILLED SOMEONE IF THIS BRAKE FAILURE HAPPENED A WEEK EARLIER. WHILE BACKING UP, ABOUT 6 INCHES FROM HITCHING THE TRAILER, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKE FLUID POURED OUT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AUG. 2014. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN THE PAST FIXING ISSUES WITH THE ABS SENSORS, BRAKE LINES, ET AL. THIS TRUCK JUST TURNED 100,000 MILES. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN, EVER! I LIVE IN THE NORTHEAST, LOTS OF SALTED ROADS BUT THESE PARTS MUST BE JUNK. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND GM HAS TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM ASAP. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A LONG TIME AND THEY ARE DRAGGING THEIR FEET IN RECALLING THE '05 AND NEWER TRUCKS. *TR
SPEEDOMETER FAILS TO REGISTER ACTUAL SPEED OF DRIVING -- WILL SHOW 120 WHEN DRIVING 70, 90 MPH WHEN DRIVING 30MPH, 15 MPH WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT. MAKES HIGHWAY DRIVING HAZARDOUS BECAUSE I AM PRONE TO DRIVING SLOWER THAN TRAFFIC. ALSO CONCERNS ABOUT ACCURACY OF THE ODOMETER BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT READ ACCURATE. IT EITHER READS 15 MPH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, OR GOES WAY HIGH SUCH AS 120 MPH AT 55 TO 60 MPH. SOMETIMES AT THE HIGHER READING, IT WILL READ 60 MPH WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED, IN PARK, AND IGNITION OFF. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A STEPPING MOTOR BUT HARD TO CHANGE AND EXPENSIVE TO CHANGE. I HAVE READ THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT THAT WAS NEVER BROUGHT UP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO DIESEL ENGINE . WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE SPEEDOMOTER WOULD INDICATE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 120 MPH AND WOULD STICK AT THIS MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, HOWEVER NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT PRESENT AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND WAS UNSURE AS TO WHAT WAS ADVISED IN REFERENCE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. I HAVE HAD MY BLOWER FAN MOTOR REPLACED THE DEALER JUST REPLACED MY CIGARETTE LIGHTER WHEN THEY WERE REPLACING MY RECALLED SPEEDOMETER THEY SAID THE WIRES WERE MELTED TO CIG ASSEMBLY, DAYS LATER MY TRUCK BURNT TO THE GROUND. THE CAUSE WAS THE HEATER RESISTER AND FAN MOTOR STARTED THIS FIRE. I AM OUT A TRUCK THE DEALER SAYS THAT'S WHAT INSURANCE IS FOR. BIG DEAL I GET 75% OF MY TRUCK'S VALUE. THIS WAS A 2005 2500HD EXTENDED CAB TRUCK IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. WHY DO WE AS CUSTOMERS HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THESE DEFECTS AND TAKE THE LOSS. WE SUFFER. THE QUESTION IS HOW MANY FIRES HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THIS YEAR TRUCK AND THE FACTORIES PROBLEMS. AROUND DECEMBER 2009 I NOTICED THAT MY TACHOMETER WAS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. THE PROBLEM HAS NOW MOVED OVER TO MY SPEEDOMETER WHICH IS REGISTERING MY SPEED +/- 25 MPH OFF THE ACTUAL SPEED. THIS IS WORSE THAN ME TEXTING WHILE DRIVING AS I AM ALWAYS HAVING TO PACE MY SPEED WITH OVER VEHICLES OR TRYING TO MENTALLY GAUGE MY ACTUAL SPEED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE ENGINE EXHIBITED A LEAKAGE OF POWER STEERING FLUID. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND POWER STEERING PUMP. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY RISK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,227.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 CHEVROLET PICKUP. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AROUND A CURVE HE HEARD A NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A MANUFACTURER DESIGN OF THE WHEEL BEARING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 87,000.
ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED AT WHEN 1) VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED, 2) VEHICLE IS TRAVELING LESS THAN 6 MPH, 3) TIRE TRACTION TO ROAD IS EXCELLENT AND ANTILOCK BRAKING ACTIVATION IS NOT NECESSARY. DECELERATION IS GREATLY REDUCED BY ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATION UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. *TR
ABS BRAKE PROBLEM 2005 CHEVY TRUCK DOSE NOT ALWAYS STOP. SOMETIMES ROLLS UP TO 15 FEET PAST STOP SIGNS AND CROSSWALKS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 1999 TO 2002 TRUCKS. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM. MY TUCK IS NOW IN THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS. IT'S GOING TO COST BIG BUCKS. HAS ONLY 37,000 MILES ON IT AND I AM UNEMPLOYED. JUST GLAD I DID NOT HURT ANYONE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET K2500 PICKUP TRUCK. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR WHILE IT WAS IN DRIVE. HE THEN TRIED TO SHIFT GEARS AND WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING AFTER HE TRIED TO CHANGE GEARS AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES, HE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND MADE NO REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY ANOTHER MECHANIC AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000. UPDATED 04/01/10. *LJ

I OWN A CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 Z71 EXTENDED CAB AND THE SPEEDOMETER STICKS AND SAYS IM GOING 100MPH WHEN IM BARELY EVEN ROLLING IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMP GOT BELOW 30 DEGREES F THAT MY SPEEDOMETER WOULD STOP WORKING. THE MANUFACTURER SENT A NOTICE INFORMING THE CONTACT OF A SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT FOR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO REFUSED TO HONOR THE POLICY AS THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT HEAD BROKE OFF. 1ST BOLT INITIALLY THEN SECOND BOLT NEXT TO IT BROKE AS WELL. NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE TO MOTOR OR AFTERMARKET PARTS ADDED THAT WOULD AFFECT THIS PART AND CREATE FAILURE. EXHAUST GAS ENTERS THE UNDERHOOD AREA SOMETIME CAN BE SMELLED INSIDE CAB. THE EXHAUST MAKES A BLACK PLUME UP SIDE OF MOTOR. *TR
SPEEDOMETER GIVES FALSE READINGS. THIS PROBLEM IS SO COMMON WITH THIS MODEL YEAR (2005) CHEVY/GMC TRUCKS PEOPLE ARE SELLING REPAIR COMPONENTS ON EBAY, YAHOO AND OTHER SPOTS ON LINE. INSTRUCTION ARE SHARED ONLINE ALSO. SOME 2005S ARE BEING REPAIRED BY THE MANUFACTURE DEPENDING ON THE VIN OTHER NOT, YET THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME PARTS THAT ARE KNOWN TO BE BAD. 2003 & 2004S HAVE THEIR WARRANTY EXTENDED TO 7 YRS. 70,000 MILE TO COVER THIS PROBLEM. I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SYMPTOMS OF RECALL # 05V379000 ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS ACTIVATES RESULTING IN REDUCTION OF BRAKING ABILITY AND MULTIPLE NEAR ACCIDENTS. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DEFECT EXISTED ON PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR OF MY TRUCK. THIS A SERIOUS DEFECT GM USES THE SAME BEARINGS ON 1999-2009 SILVERADOS. ABS SHOULDN'T ACTIVATE ON DRY PAVEMENT AT LOW SPEEDS. HELP GET THIS FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED! *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A SIDE STREET ON TO A BUSY HIGHWAY HAD TO MERGE QUICKLY THE TRUCK WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ENGINE WAS SKIPPING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON HAD TO PULL OVER ALL MOST GOT HIT BY TRAFFIC DUE TO THE LACK OF POWER AND NOT ABLE ACCELERATE I TAKE THE TRUCK TO DEALER THEY HAVE IT 3 DAYS WORKING ON WIRING HARNESS SHORTS TO INJECTOR 6 CAUSED BY IMPROPER WIRING HARNESS ROUTING I HAD TO INFORM THEM OF GM TSB ON THIS THEY FIX IT AND SAID NOT COVERED UNDER ENGINE WARRANTY COSTS $370 THIS TRUCK WAS IN MAY 09 FOR SKIP AND P1238 OPEN CIRCUIT INJECTOR 6 AND PROBLEM WAS NOT FOUND COST $100 THE TSB HAD BEEN OUT SINCE 07 THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN CROSSING BUSY HIGHWAYS AND LOSS OF POWER OCCURS. *TR

SPEEDOMETER FAILURE--SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ INCORRECTLY AND NOW HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. NOTHING TO DATE HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE IT IS NEVER ACCURATE, I CAN NOT TRUST WHAT IT SAYS IT EVEN GOES TO 130 MPH WHILE PARKED. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER SHOWS A LOWER SPEED THAN WHAT I AM ACTUALLY TRAVELING. I WAS TICKETED FOR GOING 31 MPH OVER THE SPEED LIMIT WHEN THE GAUGE SHOWED I WAS GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 60MPH THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD INCREASE TO AROUND 100MPH. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE SPEEDOMETER STILL REGISTERED 35MPH. I WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SPEEDOMETER BY CYCLING THE KEY ON AND OFF 5 TIMES. I'VE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AT LEAST 3 TIMES NOW. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED, NOT TO MENTION ALL THE SPEEDING TICKETS BEING ISSUED FOR THIS DEFECT. *TR

THERE IS A WELL DOCUMENTED RECALL ON CHEVY TRUCKS BUILT IN 2000 - 2004, BUT GM SAYS THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE AN ACTIVE RECALL ON LATER MODELS (MINE'S A 2005). THIS IS NOT A RARE COMPLAINT. FACTUALLY, SEVERAL RETAILERS ON EBAY SELL DISCUSSED REPLACEMENT PARTS; AND THEY REVEAL THE BURNT, BURNING, AND OR MELTED PARTS IN THE PARTS AUCTIONS DESCRIPTIONS! THIS SHOULD BE A RECALLED ITEM! 1. WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE, DRIVER & THREE PASSENGERS SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING OR FIRE WITHIN THE PASSENGER/CAB COMPARTMENT OF OUR 2005 SILVERADO, FOLLOWED SHORTLY, WITHIN 2 MINUTES OF AIR CONDITIONING BLOWER ASSEMBLY FAILURE. THAT IS, WE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING AND THE AIR CONDITIONING QUIT WORKING. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, REMOVAL OF THE AIR CONDITIONING "RESISTOR" (P/N "52408586, 42/04 SLOVANIA") REVEALED A SEVERELY BURNT AND MELTED [MALE] "RESISTOR" CONNECTOR AND [FEMALE] WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR (REFER TO (3) FOR RESISTOR AND HARNESS REPLACEMENT PART NUMBERS). (2) THE FAILURE OCCURRED ONCE, CATASTROPHICALLY; CONSEQUENTLY, A VEHICLE FIRE ENSUES; AND, AT A MINIMUM, VEHICLE COMPONENTS REMAIN DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, HOWEVER, FUSES FAIL TO PREVENT SAID FIRE OR DAMAGE. THE SPEEDOMETER JUST WENT TO 80 ONE DAY AND STUCK THERE SOMETIMES IT FIXES IT SELF THEN ITS BREAKS AGAIN AND IS RIGHT BACK TO 80 MILES AND UP. *TR
EXCESSIVE FREE PLAY IN STEERING ALONG WITH CLUNKING SOUND, ESPECIALLY ERRATIC WHILE PULLING TRAILER. AT LOW SPEEDS THE PRIMARY SYMPTOM IS THE CLUNKING, RATTLING SOUND ALONG WITH THE FREE PLAY. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE ERRATIC STEERING BECOMES THE PREDOMINATE SYMPTOM ALTHOUGH THE CLUNKING AND RATTLING SOUNDS REMAIN. *TR
TAIL LIGHT HOUSING LEAKS WATER INTO TAIL LIGHT AREA WHICH CAUSES TAIL AND BRAKE LIGHT BULB BASES TO CORRODE , LOSE CONTACT AND FAIL TO OPERATE. I REPLACE TAIL LAMPS EVERY 3 TO 6 MONTHS. INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED AT 65000 MILES AND DESPITE EXTENDED WARRANTY GM WOULD NOT REPAIR. I WAS NEVER CONTACTED ABOUT GM SETTLEMENT CONCERNING THIS FACTORY DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP GEARS. THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TUNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY DETECTED THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE ENCODER MOTOR FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE PART HAD BEEN REPLACED LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET K1500 SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON ROUTINE INSPECTION, A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE FRAME HAD FRACTURED DUE TO STRESS FROM THE LIFT KIT INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. HE THEN ADDED THAT THE PREVIOUS DEALER( SOUTHERN COMFORT CONVERSIONS) INSTALLED THE LIFT KIT AND THAT IT WOULD COST $11,000 FOR REPAIRS.THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 103.000.
