STEERING HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THIS TRUCK SINCE 12K AND HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR 5 TIMES SINCE. ISSUE APPEARS ABOUT EVERY 8K-10K MILES. BEARINGS, JOINTS, SEALS, ALL SORTS OF 'CAUSES' HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AND EACH TIME I'M ASSURED IT IS FIXED. ONLY HAVE 54K MILES ON THIS 2005 TRUCK AND I AM AGAIN FACING THE DEALERSHIP WHO IS NOW LESS INTERESTED IN HELPING SINCE MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLET. *TR
THE WIRES LEADING TO A/C BLOWER ARE SHORTING OUT ONE AT A TIME. IT STARTED WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL SET ON HI STOPPED WORKING THEN WENT ON DOWN TO 4. COULD POSSIBLE SHORT OUT AND CAUSE A FIRE. I HAVE NOT YET PURCHASED THE NEW PARTS TO REPLACE LOOKED ONLINE FIRST TO SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
FOR QUITE SOME TIME, OUR 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WOULD HAVE AN ODOR AND THE #5 POSITION ON THE FAN FOR HEATER WOULD STOP WORKING, THEN START AGAIN. RECENTLY IT COMPLETELY STOPPED AT ALL LEVELS. WE CAN NO LONGER CIRCULATE HEAT OR AC IN THE VEHICLE. WE CHECKED THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR UNIT, IT HAD MELTED AND ALSO MELTED THE WIRING HARNESS UP UNDER THE DASH. WE NOW HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH UNITS AT GREAT EXPENSE TO US., NOT TO MENTION THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE...WE USUALLY HAVE SOME GRANDCHILDREN STRAPPED IN CAR SEATS...WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN QUITE DANGEROUS TO THEM, HAD IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME, NOT JUST THE MILEAGE INDICATED. *TR
THE 'SERVICE AIR BAG' STARTED TO BE DISPLAYED FREQUENTLY BEGINNING EARLY SEPTEMBER 2009 ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET 3500. I NOTIFIED MY LOCAL DEALER ON SEPT 10, 2009 AND THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED ON SEPTEMBER 11. THE DIAGNOSE WAS A FAULTY 'FRONTAL SENSOR'. ON OCTOBER 31, 2009 THE 'SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM' DISPLAYED AND THE ABS LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OUT ON THE SAME VEHICLE. THIS WAS ACCOMPANIED ALONG WITH AN ANNOYING REPEATING BEEP SOUND. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AGAIN AND INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM. AFTER SEVERAL STOPPING AND RESTARTING OF THE ENGINE THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. ON NOVEMBER 8, MY 'SERVICE AIR BAG' MESSAGE DISPLAYED MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGH OUT THE DAY. THE TRUCK IS SCHEDULED FOR ANOTHER SERVICE APPOINTMENT. IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM?*TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD FALL TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. AFTER EXAMINING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ROTORS WERE COVERED WITH RUST AND THAT THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED BY THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM ON HIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH OF HIS WHEELS WOULD NOT TURN WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. THE CONTACT WROTE THE GM MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE AND THEY RESPONDED THAT THE CONTACT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 30,226.
MY BRAKE FAILURE TO STOP TWICE ONCE IN 2008,JANUARY ,15 AND SEPTEMBER 09 2009. *TR
MY 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 Z71 HAS REAR DRUM BRAKES. DUE TO SHIMMY WHEN BREAKING IN APRIL 2008, WE REPLACED REAR BRAKES PADS. WHEN REPLACING THEM, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THEY WERE ORIGINALLY INSTALLED WRONG. THEY WERE THEN PUT TOGETHER CORRECTLY AND HAVE HAD SERIOUS ISSUES EVER SINCE. I HAVE REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND DRUMS TWICE IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. AND STILL, IT NEEDS TO BE DONE AGAIN. I HAVE HAD IT TO TWO DIFFERENT SHOPS. THE BRAKES SEEM TO BE CONSISTENTLY HOT CAUSING THE SHOES TO FALL APART. *TR
INVALID SPEEDOMETER READINGS, ODOMETER WORKS. *TR
I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SYMPTOMS OF RECALL # 05V379000 ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS ACTIVATES RESULTING IN REDUCTION OF BRAKING ABILITY AND MULTIPLE NEAR ACCIDENTS. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DEFECT EXISTED ON PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR OF MY TRUCK. *TR
BLOWER FOR HEAT/AIR WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER SAID RESISTOR HAS PROBABLY GONE BAD. I REMOVED THE RESISTOR WHICH WAS ALL RUSTED FROM WATER (RESISTOR IS LOCATED IN THE AIR SUPPLY CHAMBER INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT) AND REPLACED. PROBLEM RESURFACED 48 HOURS LATER. RETURNED TO DEALER WHO ADVISED THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS, IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE THE WIRE HARNESS/CONNECTOR GOES BAD DUE TO OVERHEATING. GM HAS A PART SPECIFIC TO REPAIR THE WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR. DO NOT HAVE OLD RESISTOR, WIRE HARNESS STILL ATTACHED. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE WIRE HARNESS YET AS I AM TRYING TO GET GM TO REPLACE. GM IS WELL AWARE OF THIS DESIGN DEFECT AND ELECTRICAL HAZARD. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 Z71 WITH THE 5.3 LITER V8 STOPPED WORKING AT ABOUT 93K. THE SPEEDOMETER IN NOW STUCK AT 120MPH AND DOES NOT GIVE ME A CORRECT READING. *TR

THIS CONDITION IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN ENVIRONMENTALLY CORROSIVE AREAS. THIS RECALL WILL BE LAUNCHED IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ONLY. CONSEQUENCE: THIS CAN CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING LOW-SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH THIS IS ACKNOWLEDGED IN VEHICLE MODEL YEAR 1999-2002 CHEVY SILVERADOS, AND WAS ISSUED IN 2005, HOWEVER, MY 2005 SILVERADO WITH 25000 MILES HAS THE SAME ISSUE, AND AN INVESTIGATION HAS DETERMINED THAT THE ISSUE THAT HAD FORCED THIS RECALL IS NOT RESOLVED AND CARRIES THROUGH ADDITIONAL MODEL YEARS, THROUGH AT LEAST 2006. THIS ISSUE RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION, AND CHEVROLET MUST EXTEND THIS RECALL TO INCLUDE LATER MODEL TRUCKS THAT FALL WITHIN THIS RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS WILL ACTIVATE WITHOUT WARRANT. THIS CONDITION CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD BEFORE MAKING A COMPLETE STOP. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY REPAIRED THE LEFT SIDE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE . ONE MONTH LATER THE RIGHT SIDE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AT AN EXPENSE OF $848.00. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31852. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35786.
ROTORS RUSTED, SEPARATED AND CHIPPED, DESTROYING THE ROTORS AND BRAKES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. HE SPOKE WITH TWO DEALERSHIPS AND ADVISED THEM THAT THE ABS DOEST ENGAGE WHEN IT SHOULD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ABS FAILURE WAS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE. THE DEALER ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE ABS ROTOR AND SENSORS WOULD BECOME CORRODED AND THE ABS WOULD RESPOND AS IF THE TIRES WERE SKIDDING AND ENABLE IT AT THE INAPPROPRIATE TIME. THE ABS FUSE WAS CHECKED; HOWEVER, IT INDICATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM TO TAKE HIS VEHICLE TO A DEALER SO THAT THEY COULD PROVIDE THEM WITH THE FINDINGS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,700 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,600.
ABS BRAKES ON 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO KICKED IN AT LOW SPEEDS WITHOUT THE NEED FOR THEM. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE SITUATION ON THE RECALL FOR 1999-2002 SILVERADOS. THIS OLD RECALL IS NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000. *TR
ODOMETER STOPPED WORKING AS WELL AS THE BLOWER MOTOR CONTROL SWITCH ON MY 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO, 4.3L V6 4WD TRUCK. *TR
CHEVY 2005 SILVERADO 68,000 MILES. BEARING ASSEMBLY WENT OUT ON LEFT SIDE. WHEN I HEARD A LOUD "CLUNK" NOISE I TOWED IT TO THE DEALER. MECHANIC SAID WHEEL WAS ABOUT TO FALL OFF AND CALLED IT "CATASTROPHIC" FAILURE. NOW 4 WEEKS LATER OTHER SIDE IS GOING OUT. THIS COULD HAVE KILLED ME. I DO A LOT OF HIGHWAY DRIVING, ONLY REASON I DISCOVERED IT WAS BECAUSE I DROVE WITH WINDOWS DOWN AND HEARD THE NOISE. THIS COULD HAVE KILLED ME IF I HAD THE AIR ON AND WINDOWS UP! *TR
2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4WD. WHEN COMING TO A STOP, ABS ENGAGES EVERY TIME. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STOP ERRATICALLY AND SOMETIMES INCREASES THE STOPPING DISTANCE. ABS SYSTEM ONLY ENGAGES WHEN ALMOST TO A STOP, LESS THEN 5 MPH. I WILL BE REPLACING BOTH WHEEL HUBS/ABS SENSORS TO TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THAT HAS 2 MAIN ISSUES WITH TRUCK. THE FIRST ON IS DEALING WITH THE AIR CONDITION SYSTEM. THE RELAY FOR THE FAN MOTOR DIRECTLY UNDER THE DASH BURNT, AND AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER I FOUND THAT THIS WAS COMMON WITH THIS YEAR MODEL CHEVY. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET HOT LINE NUMBER AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THIS PART. I THEN WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAD REPLACEMENT PARTS IN STOCK DUE TO THE FREQUENCY OF THE PART BEING PURCHASED. THIS PART WAS REPLACED AND 2 MONTHS AFTERWARDS THE AIR CONDITIONING AND HEAT WENT OUT AGAIN, BUT WAS NOT THE SAME PART. THIS TIME THE FAN MOTOR WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT FIXED THIS PART DUE TO MYSELF NOT FEELING IT IS MY OBLIGATION TO SPEND SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS FIXING STUFF THAT IS COMMON THROUGHOUT TRUCK OF THE SAME YEAR AND MAKE. THIS PART THAT WAS REPLACED GOT VERY HOT AND SMOKED WHEN GOING OUT. THERE IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS PART CATCHING ON FIRE AND MY CHILD NOT ABLE TO RIDE IN MY VEHICLE DURING HOT SUMMER MONTHS DUE TO PARTS MESSING UP CONSTANTLY. BY THE WAY NO FUSE EVERY BURN UP IN THIS PROCESS UNTIL AFTER FAN MOTOR WENT OUT. THE SECOND ISSUE I HAVE IS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON MY TRUCK. THE ENGINE HOURS METER HAS RESET TWICE NOW WHICH WASN'T A BIG DEAL, BUT THE GEAR SELECTION ON THE DASH IS NOW STARTING TO NOT WORK PROPERLY. I RECENTLY WENT TO LEAVE FROM WORK AND WENT PUTTING THE TRUCK IN DRIVE THE INDICATION ON THE DASH STAYED IN PARK. THE TRUCK WAS IN GEAR THOUGH BECAUSE I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED UNTIL AFTER GETTING ON THE ROAD. I PULLED OVER AND WENT BACK TO PARK WITH THE SHIFTER. AFTER DOING SO THE INDICATION WORKED. I AM AFRAID THAT THIS WILL START HAPPENING MORE FREQUENT ALONG WITH THE ENGINE HOURS CLEARING. I AM SURE SOMETHING ELSE IS TO FOLLOW THAT COULD BE MAJOR TO THE DRIVE TRAIN DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGIES ON VEHICLES NOW. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
SPEEDOMETER INOPERATIVE. EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN I HAVE NO WAY OF TELLING HOW FAST I AM TRAVELING. *TR
WHILE PARKED THE BLOWER MOTOR FOR THE CLIMATE SYSTEM CONTINUED TO RUN. THE KEYS WERE REMOVED, ENGINE OFF. UPON DISCOVERY I COULD NOT TURN OFF THE BLOWER. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO A SHOP. BEFORE I COULD LEAVE THE PARKING LOT THE CAB WAS FULL OF A THICK WHITE SMOKE. I WAS ABLE TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE A FIRE STARTED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT THOUGH AS THE DEALER IS NOT REPORTING THE OCCURRENCES TO GM SO NOBODY IS AWARE OF THE FREQUENCY. AN EASY INTERNET SEARCH RETURNS MANY OCCURRENCES OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *TR

2005 LS 2WD CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER STICKS AT ONE SPEED OR SHOWS INCORRECT SPEED. THIS IS A DAILY ISSUE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED RATE BEING DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION AT THIS TIME. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHEN ROTATING MY TIRES AT 29,000 MILES, I INSPECTED THE FRONT DISC BRAKES ON MY TRUCK. I NOTICED THAT TON BOTH FRONT WHEELS. THE DISC BRAKE PADS WERE ONLY TOUCHING THE ROTORS IN AN AREA OF 1/2" ON THE INSIDE OF THE ROTORS. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERED BY THE WARRANTY BECAUSE IT HAD MORE THAN 25000 MILES. I HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS AT MY OWN EXPENSE OF $400. *TR
I HAD A WHEEL BEARING GO OUT OF A CHEVY TRUCK. THE WHEEL WAS READY TO FALL OF. IT'S A 2005 HALF TON. *TR
MY SPEEDOMETER HAS FAILED. 2005 CHEVROLET 2500HD 4X4. SOMETIMES SAYS I'M DOING 50 AT A STOP SIGN. IT MIGHT READ 25 WHEN I'M DOING 35 (LIKE THE TICKET I JUST GOT). CHEVY SAYS I NEED A NEW IPC AT $1100 WITH PARTS AND LABOR. I READ ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF LATE MODEL CHEVY TRUCK OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS OR DOES THAT NEED TO HAPPEN BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED..? THE SPEEDOMETER IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF SAFE DRIVING AND READING THE NUMBER OF FAILURES SHOWS THAT HIS IS NOT A RANDOM OCCURRENCE. DO AN INTERNET SEARCH OF "ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER ON CHEVROLET" AND YOU WILL FIND HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS. GOT A SPARE $1100 TO FIX AN ENGINEERING PROBLEM ON YOUR VEHICLE..? *TR
JUST PURCHASED A GSA PICKUP JUNE 26. JUNE 27 WAS HIGHWAY DRIVING IT AND THOUGHT I WAS GOING ABOUT 60 MPH AND THE SPEEDOMETER SAID I WAS GOING 30 MPH. WENT THROUGH TOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND THE SPEEDOMETER READ LESS THAN 0. *TR
THE BLOWER MOTOR (FOR HEAT & AIR CONDITIONING) STOPPED WORKING AND WAS REPLACED ON OUR 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500. WITH IN A YEAR IT STOPPED WORKING AGAIN AND UPON INSPECTION WE ALONG WITH RAYMOND CHEVROLET IN ANTIOCH, ILLINOIS NOTICED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS BURNED OUT AND THE RESISTER HARNESS WAS BURNT. AS IF IT WAS ON FIRE. THANKFULLY NO FURTHER DAMAGE WAS DONE BESIDES THE BURNING OF THE MOTOR, WIRES AND HARNESS. THIS WAS REPLACED AGAIN ON 10-30-08 AND NOW ON 06-23-09 AGAIN THE MOTOR HAS BURNT OUT AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD NO EXPLANATION WHY THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AND BEING AWARE OF THIS WE MAKE SURE NOTHING IS CLOSE TO THE DASH PREVENTING A SPREAD OF FIRE IN CASE IT WERE TO HAPPEN AGAIN, WHICH IT HAS. *TR
2005 C/K 2500 CHEVY ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION OF SENSORS, IDENTICAL TO RECALL OF 2002 VEHICLES LOSS OF BRAKES AT SLOW SPEED BRAKING. DEALER SERVICE REPLACES AT OVER $200 AND STATE THAT THEY ARE REPLACING 4-5 UNITS A WEEK AND IS A COMMON DEFECTIVE DESIGN. *TR
MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD HAD BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. REPAIRED AT 87,000 MILES. WENT TO DEALERSHIP TODAY BECAUSE OF EXHAUST LEAK AND WAS TOLD THERE ARE MORE BROKEN BOLTS AT 136,000. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A DEFECT. UNSAFE/RAW EXHAUST LEAKING INTO AIR AND CAB. *TT
FAN MOTOR RESISTOR MELTED CAUSING PLASTIC TO BURN AND SMOKE BADLY PART COST $100 FOR THE WIRING $80 FOR THE RESISTOR $160 LABOR. WITH ALL THE TAX DOLLARS GIVEN TO GM THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO HELP WITH THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY CHANGE THESE EVERYDAY. THERE WAS ACTUALLY TWO OF THEM SITTING ON THE PARTS COUNTER READY TO BE REPLACED FOR SOMEONE ELSE WHEN I WALKED IN. THIS IS A TRUE SAFETY PROBLEM AND WE WOULD LIKE SOME HELP. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXHAUST FUMES WERE EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE IN AN UNUSUAL FASHION AND ENTERED INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE MANIFOLD WAS WARPED BECAUSE THE BOLTS WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS REPAIRED A SECOND TIME FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY 1500HD QUADRASTEER PICKUP TRUCK. THE REAR END STARTED MAKING A GRINDING SOUND IN THE REAR AXLE HOUSING AT 63000 MILES. I HAD A REPAIR OF $2178.1. I MAKE A LIVING AS A MECHANIC AND DO NOT BELIEVE THIS TO BE A WEARABLE DEFECT AFTER 4 YEARS AS I WAS TOLD IT TO BE THE LEFT REAR CV JOINT AXLE SHAFT. WHEN I CALLED CHEVY THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE FOR THE REPAIR. THIS IS UNSAFE DO TO IT CA CAUSE THE AXLE TO LOCK UP AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, HAD LOWER AND HEAT ON. FIRST I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING, THEN I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM BEHIND GLOVE BOX AND THROUGH THE PASSENGER DASH VENTS. I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALER. I STARTED THE TRUCK AGAIN WHILE THERE AND NOTED SAME PROBLEM. I TURNED MY TRUCK OFF AND THE BLOWER AND TOOK MY KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION, BUT THE BLOWER CONTINUED TO SMOKE. I HAD TO CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO CAME OUT, DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND FOUND BURNED WIRES BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX. THE DEALER BLAMED IT ON A RESISTOR AND A WIRING HARNESS CONNECTED TO THE BLOWER MOTOR WHICH BURNED OUT. THEY REPLACED THE BLOWER CONNECTOR AND RESISTOR. I ASKED TWICE FOR THE DEFECTIVE PARTS TO BE RETURNED TO ME BUT THE DEALER DID NOT COMPLY WITH MY REQUEST. THE TRUCK HAS A STRONG SMELL OF SMOKE IN IT UPON ITS RETURN TO ME. *TR
MY BLOWER MOTOR WIRING MELTED AND ALMOST CAUGHT FIRE. I HAD IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY ONCE. 15 MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I AM SMART ENOUGH TO DISCONNECT IT BEFORE IT CAUSED A FIRE BUT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED IT WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AFTER I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND PULLED THE KEY. GM APPARENTLY KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS IT IS A VERY COMMON DEFECT. YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP IS REQUESTED. I AM THE OWNER OF 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 TRUCK. ABOUT A MONTH OR LESS AGO MY SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING STAYS ON 120 OR 0 WHETHER IT IS PARKED OR WHILE DRIVING IT. WE CALLED THE DEALER THAT WE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW FROM AND THE MAINTENANCE MAN SAID IT WAS UNDER WARR UP TO 70,000 MILES WHICH MY MILEAGE IS 46711. THE NEXT DAY WE RECV A CALL SAYING IT IS NOT UNDER WARR BECAUSE OF OUR VIN # IS NOT COVERED. THE DEALER GAVE ME A # TO CALL GM MOTORS AND I HAVE TALKED WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE THERE AND ALL ARE SAYING THE VIN# IS NOT GOOD ONLY SOME VIN#'S ARE UNDER THE 7 YEAR OR 70,000. I DRIVE MY TRUCK TO WORK ONLY,DO MONTHLY MAINT ON IT THROUGH WALMART, I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME SINCE I FEEL IT A DEFECT ON THE TRUCK AND EITHER GM OR THE DEALER NEEDS TO REPLACE THIS PART@ THEIR COST NOT MINE. THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR IN MY 2005 CHEVROLET STARTED SMOKING, FROM EXCESS HEAT WITHIN THE WIRING TO THE HARNESS OR RESISTOR. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT OVER TIME THE FAILURE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

CLUNKING NOISE AND VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL ON 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU TURN OR HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. GM STATES THAT THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE, HOWEVER I DISAGREE. ANY UNEXPECTED VIBRATION OR CLUNK IN THE STEERING MECHANISM WHILE DRIVING PRESENTS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. GM KNOWS THIS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM ON A NUMBER OF VEHICLES, HOWEVER THEY CONTINUE TO TURN A BLIND EYE. APPARENTLY THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT IS THE CENTER OF THE PROBLEM AND GM NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PART AT ONCE. SO FAR NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE ON MY VEHICLE AND GM SEEMS TO BE UNWILLING TO WORK WITH ME TO ATTAIN CORRECTIVE ACTION. I SINCERELY HOPE THAT THE NHTSA WILL REQUIRE GENERAL MOTORS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
