WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN TOWN ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, WITH THE AC ON AND THE BLOWER IN THE HIGH POSITION, THE BLOWER STARTED TURNING OFF INTERMITTENTLY. A SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC WAS NOTED AND THE BLOWER COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. THE COMPRESSOR FOR THE AC CONTINUED TO CYCLE ON AND OFF. THE OTHER LOWER SETTINGS FOR THE BLOWER DID NOT WORK EITHER. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PLUG THAT GOES TO THE RESISTOR PACK NEXT TO THE BLOWER HAD A BADLY-BURNED CONTACT FOR THE GROUND WIRE GOING TO THE BLOWER. THE PLASTIC AROUND THE PLUG WAS MELTED AND BURNED AND THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR WAS MELTED OFF. A SERIOUS FIRE COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY STARTED UNDER THE DASH DUE TO THE INTENSE HEAT AND ARCING OF THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY IN DANGER. DOING RESEARCH ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCKS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS, BUT I DO NOT FIND ONE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 EQUIPPED WITH BF GOODRICH RUGGED TERRAIN TIRES, SIZE: LT265/75/R16 (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE STARTED TO MAKE AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DISCOUNT TIRE TO BE INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF PLY SEPARATION TO THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 26 DAYS LATER, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY DISCOUNT TIRE AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR, I SET THE CRUISE CONTROL TO MAINTAIN THE 45 MILE PER HOUR SPEED. AFTER LESS THAN 60 SECONDS, THE CRUISE CONTROL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY TO 85 MILES PER HOUR. STEPPING ON THE BRAKE AT FIRST DID NOT CANCEL THE CRUISE CONTROL. WHEN IT DID FINALLY CANCEL, I CONTINUE TO DRIVE MANUALLY. THE CRUISE CONTROL THEN TOOK OVER AGAIN AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY, EXCEEDING THE SPEED LIMIT. ONCE AGAIN, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CANCELLED. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS TURNED OFF AT THE MAIN SWITCH ON THE TURN SIGNAL STEM. LATER ON, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS TURNED BACK ON AND TESTED AGAIN WITH THE SAME RESULTS. AFTER THE THIRD ATTEMPT TO SET THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 45 MPH, THE CRUISE WOULD NOT SET AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY SPECIFIC ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. BUT THEY DID INDICATE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE ITSELF WOULD PROBABLY BE AT FAULT. IF THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH IS LEFT IN THE ON POSITION, BUT THE CRUISE IS NOT SET, IT MAY RANDOMLY TAKE OVER THE THROTTLE AND ACCELERATE OR SOMETIMES HOLD ITS OWN SPEED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AT DIFFERENT RATES OF SPEED. THIS CREATES A HAZARDOUS SITUATION FOR ALL OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE ALONG WITH OTHERS THAT MAY BE IN THE PATH OF THE TRUCK WHEN IT RANDOMLY ACCELERATES. AS OF THE TIME OF THIS WRITING, A SOLUTION HAS NOT BEEN FOUND TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED, GREY SMOKE EMERGED THROUGH THE VENTS AND FLAMES SUDDENLY APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE, BUT THE CAUSE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT WHERE IT WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. *TT
DRIVER SIDE SEAT HEATER TURNS ON BY ITSELF. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THE DRIVER IS DISTRACTED WHILE DRIVING AND MUST LOOK DOWN TO FIND THE OFF SWITCH. OFTEN, THE SEAT HEAT COMES BACK ON AGAIN ALMOST RIGHT AWAY.. THIS SITUATION SEEMED TO OCCUR IN APPROX 2003 TO 2007 MODELS. INTERNET FORUMS SHOW THAT GM HAS SERVICE BULLETINS THAT INSTRUCT TECHNICIANS TO DO A 'FIRMWARE FIX". THE ONLY WAY FOR ME TO STOP THIS CONDITION WAS TO LOCATE AND DISCONNECT A SMALL GREEN CONNECTOR UNDER THE SEAT THAT DISABLES THE SEAT HEATER. CHANGING THE CONTROL MODULE DIDN'T REMEDY THE SITUATION. IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND IS INTERMITTENT. SEEMS LIKE GM HAS REMEDIED THE SITUATION IN NEWER MODELS. SEEMS TO ME THEY SHOULD BE RECALLING OLDER MODELS TO INCORPORATE SOME SORT OF "FIX". THE DISTRACTION OF LOCATING AND TURNING OFF THE HEATER IS AS BAD AS "DRIVING WHILE TEXTING". I ALWAYS HAVE TO PULL OVER TO GET IT SHUT OFF. OFTEN, WHEN I RESUME DRIVING, THE HEATER WILL COME BACK ON. EVENTUALLY IT STOPS TURNING ITSELF ON.
MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD WITH 133,606 MILES EXPERIENCED TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE APRIL 13,2018 AT 9PM EASTERN STANDARD TIME. INCIDENT HAPPENED IN GREENVILLE, OHIO ON GARDENWOOD DR. HEADING WEST. STOPPED AT A 4 WAY STOP WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY KIND OF MUSHY BRAKES ETC. TOOK OFF FROM STOP AND ACCELERATED TO 25MPH THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. WENT APPROXIMATELY 400 FEET, WHEN A RABBIT DARTED IN FRONT OF TRUCK. HIT THE BRAKES WITH MODERATE FIRM PRESSURE, BUT NOT EXTREME AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. HAD ZERO BRAKING FORCE. DUMB FOUNDED, I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO FIND THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL WITH MY LEFT BOOT IN THE DARK. AFTER 40 YARDS OF COASTING AND APPLYING THE PARKING BREAK WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK. THANK GOD FOR THE RABBIT, CAUSE THE ROAD DEAD ENDS INTO STATE ROUTE 118. THE BRAKE LINE FAILED UNDER DRIVERS SIDE DOOR NEAR FRAME AND RUNS TO THE MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. AFTER REMOVING LINES, THE LINES THAT LOOKED GOOD WERE BRITTLE IN SPOTS THAT ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO VISUALLY INSPECT WITHOUT REMOVING. TWO OTHER LINES THAT DIDN'T FAIL COULD BE EASILY SNAPPED IN TWO WITH ALMOST ZERO FORCE. ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM OTHER THAN THE STEEL LINES HAD BEEN REPLACED IN THE PAST 2YRS. POWER WASHED UNDER THE TRUCK AT A MINIMUM OF EVERY 6 MONTHS. SPRAYED WD 40 ON BRAKE LINES EVERY 6 MONTHS PAST 4YRS, DUE TO MECHANIC INFORMING ME THAT THE LINES COULD GO BAD ALONG FRAME AND THAT THEY ARE DIFFICULT TO REPLACE. THOUGHT I HAD DONE A GOOD JOB AT PREVENTING SUCH AN INCIDENT. HAVE EXTENSIVE MECHANICAL SKILLS FROM EXPERIENCE, HENCE I'M REPLACING ALL THE BRAKE LINES MYSELF. WAS A MAC TOOL DISTRIBUTOR IN THE PAST AND RAISED ON A FARM. LUCKY I HAD REPLACED THE REAR DISKS AND PARKING BRAKE SHOES, BECAUSE THEY ARE LESS THAN ADEQUATE TO STOP A FULL SIZED TRUCK IMO. I'M PISSED OFF THIS HAPPENED. THE LINES NEED REPLACED ON ALL THESE VEHICLES, BEFORE THEY FAIL AND HURT OR KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE.
WE TOOK OUR 2005 CHEVY Z71 SILVERADO IN FOR THE INSPECTION AND IT WOULDN'T PASS DUE TO ROTTED FRAME. SO NOW WE HAVE A USELESS TRUCK THAT LOOKS AND DRIVES FINE BUT WON'T PASS INSPECTION. NOW WE'RE HEARING ABOUT SEVERAL SAME MODEL TRUCK ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WE HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN THE BEST CARE OF ALL OUR VEHICLES AND HAVE BEEN LOYAL GM CUSTOMERS. BUT IT SURE SEEMS THE QUALITY OF GM PRODUCTS ARE NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE. ESPECIALLY FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT WE INVEST IN THEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LUCAS CHEVROLET (4323, 101 S JAMES CAMPBELL BLVD, COLUMBIA, TN 38401, (931) 398-5092) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.

THE TRANSFER CASE MODULE IS NOT WORKING IN THIS TRUCK I CHANGED THE BUTTONS UNIT BUT STILL THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE POWER GOES OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DIVING. SEVERAL MECHANICS CHANGE SOME PARTS BUT STILL THE SAME. I CAN WON;T BE ABLE TO GET OUT IN A SITUATION WHERE I NEED THE 4X4 THE DASH DOESN'T SHOW THE CORRECT INFORMATION, ONLY THE FUEL AND RPM

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT TO WORK. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ALSO STOP FUNCTIONING WHEN THE BRAKES EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED, BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT SPEAK WITH A LIVE REPRESENTATIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
I HAVE HAD A "SERVICE AIR BAG" LIGHT ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK SINCE NEW AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD IT IS A DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG CONNECTION ISSUE AND IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT THE AIRBAG WON'T ACTIVATE. AFTER READING ABOUT THE RECALL ON THE 2007 MODELS ON UP I WAS SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED THAT MY YEAR IS NOT INVOLVED IN THAT RECALL AS IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME SAFETY DEFECT. MILEAGE ON MY TRUCK IS ONLY 81,000 MILES. THE TRUCK WAS STATIONARY AND JUST STARTED WHEN THE LIGHT FIRST CAME ON AND IT'S BEEN ON EVER SINCE.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL ABOUT 25 MPH ON A CITY STREET WHEN A WARNING NOTICE APPEARED " SERVICE STEERING SYSTEM" AND " SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM". ALMOST IMMEDIATELY I COULD NOT STEER OR BRAKE. I ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN TRYING TO STEER AND STOP. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO TURN A CORNER AND STOPPED. I SLOWLY DROVE TWO BLOCKS TO MY HOUSE AT ABOUT 5 MPH. I AM A STRONG MAN AND IF MY WIFE OR A LESS STRONG INDIVIDUAL HAD BEEN DRIVING, OR IF I HAD BEEN GOING MORE THAN THE 25 MPH OR IF I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT, I AM SURE I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID HITTING THE PEDESTRIAN AND / OR GOING OFF THE ROAD AND WRECKING. THIS SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE GMC REPAIR SHOP IN BEAVERTON, OREGON AWAITING DIAGNOSIS.
ALL BRAKE LINES RUSTED . BRAKE LINES LEAKING FLUID . LOW BRAKE FLUID. WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY HAD PAY LOAD400 POUNDS.
AS PREVIOUSLY STATED I OWN A 2005 3500 HD SERIES CHEVY DIESEL TRUCK. THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN RELEIGH, NC. THE TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN IN A HEAVILY NORTHERN ROAD SALTED AREAS. LAST WEEK WHEN I WENT TO RUN AN ERRAND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD. WHEN I INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES THE REAR BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. I FIXED THAT LINE AND WHILE TEST DRIVING THE TRUCK THE OTHER FOUR LINES TO THE ABS AND FRONT BRAKES ALSO RUPTURED. I HAVE VEHICLES THAT ARE UP TO THIRTY YEARS OLD THAT I DRIVE ON A REGULAR BASIS AND THEY STILL HAVE THEIR ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES THAT ARE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. THE BRAKE LINES ON THIS TRUCK HAVE A LATENT DEFECT. THE DEFECT IS THE RESULT OF EITHER POOR DESIGN OR MATERIAL SELECTION OR BOTH. THE BRAKE LINES ARE PROBABLY NOT MANUFACTURED IN THE USA TO OUR STRICT STANDARDS , BUT MANUFACTURED IN EITHER CHINA, MEXICO OR INDIA TO LESS STRICT MANUFACTURING AND OSO STANDARDS. IF THE BRAKES HAD FAILED ON THE ROAD AND NOT IN THE DRIVEWAY IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN TERRIFIC AND UNNECESSARY ACCIDENT. KEEP IN MIND THE TRUCK WEIGHS ALMOST 8000 LBS. AND TRAVELING AT 65 MPH THERE IS NOT MUCH THAT CAN STOP IT EXCEPT A CONCRETE WALL. THE ABOVE DESCRIBE ACCIDENT WHICH COULD ONLY BE CAUSED BY GENERAL MOTORS BASIC LACK OF INTEREST IN PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE. GM SHOULD BE DECLARED RESPONSIBLE FOR MY THE BRAKE FAILURE AND THEREFORE FOUND RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS TO MY TRUCK AND THE COUNTLESS OTHER TRUCKS OUT THAT HAVE YET TO FAIL. THE BRAKES FAILED NOT FROM A LACK OF INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE, BUT RATHER FROM GM'S INTENTIONAL LATENT DEFECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL CAUGHT FIRE AND MELTED. IN ADDITION, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED FUNCTIONING INDEPENDENTLY AND THE RADIO STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND USED HIS SHIRT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT A SPECIALIST WOULD CALL HER BACK. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
THE REAR GAS TANK STRAP HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE FREE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY CAUSING RISK OF DRAGGING WHICH MAY RESULT IN FIRE/EXPLOSION. THIS CAUSED THE GAS TANK TO HANG DOWN ALMOST MAKING CONTACT WITH THE HIGHWAY. THE BROKEN STRAP IS ALSO BANGING AGAINST THE LOWERED TANK CAUSING RISK OF PUNCTURE.
I HAVE A BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND IS IMPACTING MY SMOG CERTIFICATION AND SAFETY.

NO SEPTEMBER 3RD 2016 I WAS AT STUTZ EXCAVATING DRIVING FOR THEM AND WENT I GOT OFF AND WALKED TO MY PICKUP I GOT IN THE TURNED THE KEY AND THE HOUR METER WAS ON 00.0 AND THE MILES HAD 127300 OR SO I HAD JUST CHANGE THE OIL AND HAD OVER 4000 HRS ON MY TRUCK SOMEONE BROKE IN AND HACKED MY PICKUP IN STUTZ EXC LOT AND ON DEC 20TH I WAS LEAVING DR BUGERS LOT AT 5:10 PM AND MY HEAD LIGHT WOULD NOT WORK I GOT HOME AND THE HEADLIGHTS WORKED FINE I SINCE THEY READ ABOUT CAR HACKS AND PULLED THE RADIO FUSE AND AND TRUCK HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS INFILL APRIL 28 MY TRUCK WOULD NOT GO I REVERS AND THE DOOR LOCKS LOCKS THEMSELF AND THE HRS WERE GOING UP WITH DRIVING IT THE DEALER SAID YOU CAN NOT EARESE THE HOUR ON THAT TRUCK THEY ARE BURNED IN THE COMPUTER. SO IF STUTZ CAN REMOVE THE HOUR THEY CAN REMOVE THE MILES FROM THE TRUCK I GOT POLICE REPORTS ON THE VW JETTA BUT NONE ON THE PICKUP THE PICKUP AND CAR WAS MOVING THREW EDWARDSVILLE WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT I GOT HOME WITH MY FOG LIGHTS AND AGAIN THE EDWARDSVILLE POLICE ARE FRIENDS WITH STUTZ AND TOLD ME IT CAN'T HAPPEN SO NOW I LIVE IN FEAR THAT STUTZ CAN SHUT MY LIGHTS OFF ON A RAINY NIGHT ON A DARK ROAD MIKE WEBER AT 3832 RAMOND RD IS CHRIS STUTZ FATHER IN LAW SO MOST OF THE BRACK IN HAVE BEEN HAPPING AT HOME AND AGAIN COPS REFUSE TO BELIEVE ME
THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLICKERS AND GOES DARK RANDOMLY I CANT SEE MY SPEED OR WHAT GEAR I AM IN. ON MY WAY TO WORK AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN BREAK PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD ZERO BRAKES.UPON INSPECTION I FOUND A BREAK LINE HAD CORRODED THROUGH AND RUPTURED. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 100 THOUSAND MILES. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS
I WAS COMING HOME ON A STATE HIGHWAY TRAVELING 45 MPH I TURNED ONTO MY HOME STREET AND I HAD NO BRAKES. LUCKILY I WAS 200 FEET FROM MY DRIVEWAY AND I COASTED AND TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS ABLE TO STOP. I HAD IT TOWED TO A GM DEALER AND FOUND OUT ALL MY BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT GET THE BLEEDER SCREWS OFF THE CALLIPHERS BECAUSE THE SCREWS WERE ALSO RUSTED OUT. THE EXPENSE WAS 1200.00 TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES PLUS THE TOWING FEE. THE MECHANIC TOLD US HE SEEN THIS IN 2002,2003,2004,2005 AND 2006 TRUCKS. 2007 HASN'T COME IN YET.

AFTER GOOGLING "BLOWER MOTOR FAN RELAY SWITCH" I WAS AMAZED AT HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR DECADES. BEFORE I RETIRED, I WORKED FOR AT&T AS A TECHNICIAN. WE DEAL WITH CORRODED WIRES AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT DAMAGED BY WATER ON A DAILY BASIS. AFTER REMOVING THE RESISTER MODULE, IT WAS VERY OBVIOUS IT WAS DAMAGED BY WATER. NOT ONLY THAT, IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE PROTECTED FROM WATER BY HAVING TWO SEALS, ONE FOAM, ONE RUBBER BUILT INTO IT. OF COURSE THESE WERE PROBABLY PLACED INTO THE MODULE BY A MACHINE BECAUSE YOU COULD THEY DIDN'T FIT PROPERLY INTO THE SLOTS THEY WERE DESIGNED TO FIT IT. NOT ONLY THAT, THE WIRES THAT WERE SUPPOSE TO BE SODERED (SP) TO THE RESISTORS MUST HAVE BEEN DONE BY A MACHINE AS WELL, YOU COULD SEE THE TWO COMPONENTS WERE PRESSED TOGETHER BY SOMETHING NOT DONE BY A WORKER, AND NO SODER (SP) WAS VISIBLE. ON TOP OF THAT, AFTER TESTING ONE OF THE RESISTORS, WHICH TESTED GOOD., THE WIRE THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE MAKING CONTACT WITH THE RESISTER WAS TESTING OPEN, MEANING BAD CONNECTION. I WAS GOING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, PULLING A 16 FT STOCK TRAILER AND THE BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL RUPTURED. I WAS ABLE TO STOP, BUT COULD NOT HAVE IF I'D BEEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE ELECTRIC BRAKES ON THE TRAILER HELPED. TOOK TO CHEVY SERVICE AND ALL BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND EATEN THROUGH. PISTONS CORRODED AND STUCK ON BOTH FRONT CALIPERS. TRUCK WAS JUST INSPECTED 6 MONTHS PRIOR AT DEALER. IN MY 45 YEARS OF DRIVING PROFESSIONALLY, I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE FAIL FOR NO REASON, AS IT WAS UNTOUCHED AND SECURED JUST AS IT WAS WHEN IT LEFT FACTORY. ITS OBVIOUS TO ME AND EVERYONE I TALK TO THAT THE BREAK LINE IS MADE OF A LOWER QUALITY STEEL OR NOT AS THICK AS ONES PRODUCED IN THE PAST BY GM. I HAVE HEARD THAT THRU THE GRAPEVINE THAT A CERTAIN SOMEONE WHO DECIDES FAULTS IN THESE CASES SUGGESTED THAT SALT PUT ON THE ROADS IN THE WINTER COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS IF THE TRUCKS UNDERSIDE WERE NOT WASHED OFF AFTER WINTER DRIVING TO REMOVE THE CORROSIVE SALT. HAD TO MAKE A SUDDEN STOP WHEN A PEDESTRIAN WALKED OUT IN FRONT OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. UPON ON INVESTIGATION IT WAS FOUND THAT ONE OF THE FRONT BRAKE LINES RUPTURED DUE TO THE HIGH PRESSURE FROM THE EMERGENCY STOP AND THE RUSTED BRAKE LINE. I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS OR COMMUNICATIONS THAT THE BRAKE LINES WILL PREMATURELY CORRODE AND FAIL. BRAKE LINES ARE NOT A NORMAL SERVICEABLE PART. APPARENTLY, THIS IS TYPICAL OF THIS YEAR VEHICLE FROM GM. PLEASE RECALL OR NOTIFY THE PUBLIC BECAUSE THIS IS A TIME BOMB WAITING TO KILL PEOPLE. BRAKES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR EMPHASIS ON AIR BAGS. THE BRAKE LINES DIDN'T LAST AS LONG AS THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, BALL JOINTS, SHOCKS, ETC WHICH ARE ALL SERVICEABLE ITEMS AND EXPECTED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE STEP UP TO YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AND GET THE VEHICLE OWNERS NOTIFIED AND GET THE VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD UNTIL THE BRAKE LINES ARE REPLACED. HE HVAC BLOWER AND RESISTER WENT OUT CAUSING A WIRING HARNESS TO MELT- A BURNING PLASTIC SMELL AND SMOKE FILLED THE CABIN. THE WIRING HARNESS MELTED. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WITH OCCUPANTS WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
TODAY AT APPROXIMATELY 25MPH I CAME TO RESIDENTIAL STOP SIGN AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT AND WARNING. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO THE CROSS ROAD WITHOUT STOPPING. I WAS FORCED TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET VEHICLE TO FULLY STOP. UPON INSPECTION THERE WAS ALOT OF BRAKES FLUID IN TWO SPOTS. FROM DRIVERS SIDE FRAME RAIL AND ABOVE FUEL TANK. WHEN YOU LOOK UNDER THE FRAME, THE PARTS ALL LOOK VERY CLEAN AND NEW LOOKING. THE ONLY EXCEPTION WAS THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES LOOK HEAVILY RUSTED. I WAS LUCKY IT WAS NOT AT HIGH SPEEDS, BUT FROM WHAT MECHANICS TELL ME, THIS IS GETTING EXTREMELY COMMON. I BELIEVE AT LEAST OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED TO HAVE THEM INSPECTED. RECENTLY I HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES IN THIS TRUCK AS WELL. BRAKES WERE LOST LUCKILY IN THE DRIVEWAY. HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING IN THE REAR AND FOUND THE SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNT HAD ROTTED OFF.
Well, I contacted GM years ago asking why the frames on these vehicles rot out so fast. They told me to send pics. and that’s all that came from that. So, years ago, I heard a banging noise in the right rear side of my truck. My rear shock mount rotted out and driving home later there was even more noise. The left rear shock mount rotted out also. I removed the bed to assess damage, and I couldn’t believe the amount of rust I was looking at. I bought an aftermarket kit and had the shock mounts welded back on. The company selling the kit said that they sell tons of those kits. I would say that’s a safety issue. Especially when the whole from appears to be rotting away. That seems like a mayor issue to me. I probably won’t be buying another Chevy truck seeing how my wife’s Honda is as old as my truck and has no rust under it.
