Recently replaced o2 Sensor and cleared check engine status. I failed the state emissions test because the Cat indicates inc or not ready,(catalytic converter). The procedure to clear this condition is dangerous and unreasonable. It calls for accelerating to 55MPH or higher for 2-3 minutes then decelerating to 20 MPH, not using brakes, and travel for 2 minutes then accelerating back to 55MPH, repeating this process up to 5 cycles to clear the CAT status. Given the drive speed this procedure would have to be done on a highway and could very likely cause a collision. This is very hazardous and should not be a requirement to complete vehicle inspection.

WELL I HAVE BEEN NOTICING A LOSS OF COOLANT HAVE ADDED DYE TO COOLANT TO DETECT LEAK NOTHING WAS FOUND. I JUST CHANGED MY OIL TODAY AND NOTICED ALOT OF GUNK(FIRST TIME EVER) I KNEW ABOUT CASTECH HEAD ISSUE REMOVED MY VALVE COVERS AND FOUND WHAT WAS ALMOST LIKE CARAMEL ORANGE IN COLOR. CHECKED FOR CASTING MARK AND THE HEADS ARE INDEED CASTECH. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WHAT ARE MY COURSE OF ACTIONS TO TAKE?
LIKE SO MANY OTHERS, I STARTED TO HEAR A TICKING AT STARTUP AND SOMETIME AN EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CAB. I FOUND 2 EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKEN ON EACH SIDE. IT CAN GET BAD ENOUGH TO OPEN A WINDOW AT TIMES. DEALER SAID IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON A EMISSIONS AND SAFETY ISSUE. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY TRUCK AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. I SEE IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE 1999.WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPAIR? IF I HAVE AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR WOULD GM EVER COVER IT OR DOES IT HAVE TO BE DONE BY A HIGH COST DEALERSHIP? THEY GOT VW FOR EMISSIONS WHAT ABOUT GM?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THERE WAS A ENGINE LEAK AND NOTICED THAT A FEW BOLTS THAT HOLD THE EXHAUST PIPE WERE MISSING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 SUDDENLY WOULD NOT START. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE STARTER AND THE RELAY WERE BAD. IT COST ME OVER $700. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 53,000 MILES ON IT.
I WENT TO START MY TRUCK IN MORNING TO GET TO WORK AND THIS LOUD TICKING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD, I SHUT ENGINE OFF PANICKING AND OPENED THE HOOD. WENT BACK AND STARTED TRUCK AGAIN AND LOOKED AROUND, I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING BUT HEARD IT. CHECKED OIL SINCE IT SOUNDED LIKE THE LIFTERS BUT HAD PLENTY OF OIL. STOPPED ON WAY TO WORK AND GOT SOME SLICK50 SUPERCHARGE ENGINE TREATMENT. AT BREAKTIME CHECKED OIL AGAIN AND ADDED THE SLICK50, STARTED ENGINE AND HAD LIFTER NOISE AGAIN BUT QUIETED DOWN WITHIN 30 SECS. AT THE END OF MY WORK DAY STARTED IT UP AND AGAIN LIFTER NOISE BUT QUIETED DOWN AGAIN WITHIN 30 SEC. BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS WERE FOUND. *TR
HAD TO ADD COOLANT OVER A TIME.....NO EVIDENCE OF A LEAK ON MY DRIVEWAY OR ANY OTHER PLACE. STARTED TRUCK ONE MORNING AND HEARD CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE. I OBSERVED WATER COMING FROM THE MUFFLER. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER ON APRIL 22, 2014. ( MILEAGE 84241) DEALER FOUND BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND SEALS, ONE CRACKED HEAD AND WATER IN OIL. REPAIRS DONE: COMPLETE VALVE JOB (REPLACE HEAD GASKET, SEALS & OTHER ASSOCIATED PARTS), REPLACE BROKEN BOLTS, REPLACE COOLANT HOSES, RADIATOR & HEATER HOSES AND THERMOSTAT ETC.. WAS NOT ADVISED BY SERVICE CONSULTANT OF ANY RECALLS OR BULLETINS FOR 2005 SILVERADO. THIS IS LOW MILEAGE FOR THIS KIND OF ENGINE PROBLEM. RIGHT SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS BOLTS RUSTED OFF CAUSING EXHAUST GASES TO ESCAPE AND CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON.CANNOT GET THE VEHICLE STATE INSPECTED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. MECHANIC SAYS IT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED TO GET VEHICLE INSPECTED.THE OTHERS LOOK LIKE THEY MAY BE FAILING ALSO. THIS IS A BIG OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE SINCE IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD AND ENGINE. THIS ALLOWS ANTIFREEZE COOLANT TO MIX IN WITH THE OIL IN THE ENGINE AND GOES THROUGH THE EXHAUST, THIS ALSO GUMS UP THE OIL PARTS IN THE ENGINE AND REQUIRES NEW CYLINDER HEADS TO BE INSTALLED OR ENGINE REPLACED. I JUST RECENTLY WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE GENERAL MOTORS IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THERE ENGINES. AND ALSO WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE GENERAL MOTORS HAS SINCE FIXED THIS PROBLEM AFTER 2007, BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE DEATH IT IS NOT LISTED AS A RECALL. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT MADE AWARE TO THE CONSUMER BUT IS PUBLISHED IN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS. THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM BY GENERAL MOTORS. IT IS GOING TO COST BETWEEN $2500 TO $5000 TO REPAIR. *TR

THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT WENT ON. THE ONLY WAY TO FILL THE SYSTEM IS TO OPEN THE RESERVOIR CAP. UNFORTUNATELY BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAD A HEAD GASKET FAILURE THE COOLING SYSTEM WOULD NOT DEPRESSURIZE, EVEN WHEN COLD. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE SHOULD BE A PRESSURE CAP THAT WHEN THE ENGINE OVERHEATS IT ALLOWS THE COOLING SYSTEM TO DEPRESSURIZE. THIS CLOSED SYSTEM IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN SOMEONE WHO IS USED TO FILLING THE OVERFLOW TANK WHEN THE COOLANT IS LOW. BECAUSE THE LACK OF AN OVER FLOW TANK ANYONE THAT OPENS THE PLASTIC RESERVOIR COULD BECAME BURNED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INCREASED AND THE COOLANT FAN ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP AND THE THERMOSTAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE RESERVOIR AND THE LOWER WATER HOSE WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING COOLANT, WHICH WAS CAUSING THE HEADS TO CRACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
THIS TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH THE 6.0L VORTEC V8 ENGINE AND HAS DEVELOPED AN EXHAUST LEAK ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ENGINE AT THE MANIFOLD GASKETS! THE LEAK IS FROM THE PORTS WHERE THE BOLTS SECURING MANIFOLD TO CYLINDER HEAD ARE BROKEN! GM IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, DOES NOT WANT TO RECALL THE ISSUE OR WARRANTY THE REPAIRS. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM OWNERS OF GM VEHICLES WITH V8 ENGINES INCLUDING THE 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L ENGINES. THIS IS A PROBLEM IN MANY OF WAYS, MOST IMPORTANTLY THAT TOXIC EXHAUST FUMES ARE EMITTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND CAN ENTER THE CAB OF THE VEHICLES! INSPECTION LAWS REQUIRE THAT EXHAUST FUMES EXIT THE VEHICLE BEHIND THE REAR WHEEL! THE OTHER PROBLEMS INCLUDE THE FACT THAT THIS LEAK WILL AFFECT READINGS TAKEN FROM THE UPSTREAM OXYGEN SENSORS AND CAN THEREFORE CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER DEFICIENCIES TO SYSTEM LEAN CONDITIONS. ALSO HAVING AN EXHAUST LEAK WILL FAIL SAFETY INSPECTIONS AND EMISSIONS TESTING. GM IS VIOLATING EPA LAWS BY ALLOWING THIS TO GO ON! THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE IS PAST DUE FOR INSPECTION AND EMISSIONS AS WE ARE A PENNSYLVANIA RESIDENT AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE THIS FIXED AT A DEALER! *TR
