I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 IN MAY, 2006. I HAD NO TROUBLE WITH THE VEHICLE.. UNTIL OCTOBER 27. I HAD 3800 MILES ON THE TRUCK. I HAD FILLED MY GAS TANK JUST OUT OF SAN FRANCISCO AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES JUST OUT SIDE OF CALISTOGA, CALIFORNIA NORTHBOUND ON HWY 29. A WINDING, UPHILL MOUNTAINOUS ROAD, SINGLE LANE TRAFFIC EXCEPT FOR A FEW PASSING LANES AND TURN-OUTS. I WAS DRIVING UP AN INCLINE. I NOTICED SMOKE WISPING BEHIND THE CAB. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, THE TRUCK DIED... RED INDICATORS ON. FORTUNATELY, IT DIED RIGHT AT A WIDE PASSING LANE LOCATION, AND I VEERED TO THE RIGHT, BLOCKING ONE OF TWO NORTHBOUND LANES. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND SAW SERIOUS SMOKE AND SOME FLAME COMING FROM UNDER THE BED OF THE TRUCK, UP BETWEEN THE CAB AND THE FRONT OF THE BED. A VEHICLE BEHIND ME, EVIDENTLY SAW IT ALREADY AND PULLED OVER TO ASSIST. ANOTHER VEHICLE, DRIVING SOUTHBOUND PULLED OVER, HAD AN EXTINGUISHER WHICH I SHOT UNDERNEATH THE BED, BUT IT DID NOT HELP. AT THAT POINT, I WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BLOW UP . THERE WAS AN EXTREME FIRE DANGER IN THE AREA AND THERE WAS A STRONG POSSIBILITY THAT THIS COULD ALSO TURN INTO A FOREST FIRE. THERE WAS NO STOPPING THE FIRE . THE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE CALISTOGA FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ENROUTE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND DOUSED THE TRUCK FIRE AND A BRUSH FIRE. CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL SHOWED UP. SECURED THE AREA FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO NEUTRALIZE ANY RESIDUAL FIRES AND THE ARRIVAL OF THE TOW TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALLY BURNED. A FULL BLOWN RAGING TRUCK FIRE, ON A SINGLE LANE HIGHWAY IN EXTREMELY DRY CONDITIONS, IN THE MIDDLE OF AN AREA WITH BLIND TURNS IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. *JB
FROM: DAVID ARTHUR COMMENTS: MY EMPLOYER ISSUED ME A 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK THAT I FEEL IS A HAZARD TO DRIVE. THE DESIGN OF THE CAB IS SUCH THAT THERE IS ONLY A 1.5 X 1.5 FT BOX THAT ONE CAN SEE OUT OF. THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IS SO BIG AND MOUNTED SO LOW THAT IT BLOCKS MOST OF THE VISION TO THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE TOP OF THE CAB INHIBITS THE ABILITY TO SEE STOP LIGHTS WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP BAR, TO SEE THE LIGHT ONE MUST STOP A VEHICLE LENGTH SHORT OF THE LIGHT. STOPPING SHORT TO SEE THE LIGHT ISN'T A BIG ISSUE FOR THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK, ITS THE IDIOT WITH ROAD RAGE BEHIND THAT'S THE PROBLEM..I HAVE ASKED THE CHEVY CUSTOMER CARE CENTER TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES AS WELL AS OTHER ISSUES WITH THE SUITABILITY OF THIS TRUCK FOR PERSONS TALLER THAN 5 FT BUT I THINK THEY HAVE JUST WRITTEN OFF THE COMPLAINT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THIS VEHICLE BE RECALLED DO TO THE SEVERELY LIMITED VISION OF THE DRIVER. FROM NHTSA WEB SITE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN HAVING TO AVOID AN OBSTACLE ABOVE 40 MPH, STEERING AND BRAKING MUST OCCUR TO AVOID ROLLOVER. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH THERE WAS A POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC APPLIED LUBRICATION TO THE STEERING SHAFT. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE LUBRICATION WAS APPLIED. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A MANUFACTURE RECALL FOR THE STEERING BUT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
THE VEHICLE MAKES A HIGH PITCH NOISE WHILE LIGHTLY ACCELERATING. IT STRONGLY APPEARS TO BE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALERS TO DATE HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THIS COMPLAINT SINCE THE FIRST WEEK OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. I PRESENTLY HAVE 2200 MILES. *JB

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED IN 2007 BUT THE REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON NORMAL ASPHALT ROADS, PIECES OF THE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM ALL FOUR TIRES. THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF 5 MONTHS. TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING LOW. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP TO BE ADJUSTED ONCE. SINCE THE ADJUSTMENT THE GAS MILEAGE HAS GOTTEN WORST. HE SAID THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AT ABOUT 1000 RPM TO WARM UP.
IN ATTEMPTING TO PURCHASE A 4X4, LWB, 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO-HD TRUCK FROM BARTOW CHEVROLET, THEY REFUSED TO FURNISH ME WITH WRITTEN PROOF THAT THE RECALLS LISTED FOR THIS VEHICLE WERE NOT IN THE LOT OF RECALLS LISTED ON THE INTERNET. FURTHER, THE GM SUPPLIER DISCOUNT OFFICE AND THE CHEVROLET MARKETING DEPARTMENT ALSO REFUSED TO FURNISH THIS WRITTEN PROOF. BARTOW CHEVROLET TOLD ME THAT SINCE I REQUESTED THIS WRITTEN PROOF, I COULDN'T TRUST THEM AND SINCE I COULDN'T TRUST, THEY WERE NOT GOING TO SELL THE TRUCK TO ME; BECAUSE I, AS THE CONSUMER, WANTED WRITTEN PROOF THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND WOULD NOT CAUSE HARM OR DEATH TO ME OR ANYONE ELSE IN THIS VEHICLE. TO ME, IT WAS A FAIR CONSUMER REQUEST TO ASK BARTOW CHEVROLET TO PROVIDE WRITTEN PROOF THAT THIS WAS A SAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE, THAT ALL OF THE RECALLS HAD BEEN FIXED, AND THAT ANYONE DRIVING OR RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE WOULD ALSO BE REASSURED OF BEING SAFE FROM BODILY HARM AND/OR DEATH. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE GEAR SHIFT IN THE PARK POSITION, AND WITHOUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT. THE POLICE WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED.
2006 CHEVY TRUCK WITH BRAKE SYSTEM AND SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. CUSTOMER STATES HE HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE HE PURCHASED IT. CONSUMER WANTS TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE CHECKED. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES MADE A NOISE AND WOULD SHAKE WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THE CONSUMER REMOVED THE WHEELS AND DISCOVERED THE ROTORS HAD GROOVED OUT PRETTY BADLY FOR A VEHICLE THAT ONLY HAD 20,000 MILES. WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER THE LAST TIME, THEY INFORMED HIM THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKES ONE MORE TIME AND AFTER THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD END. *JB UPDATED 12/12/2007 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED DRIVERS FRONT DOOR HARDER TO CLOSE THAN PASSENGER AND THE CONSUMER FURTHER STATED HEARING NOISE IN LFT WHEEL AREA. WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL NORMALLY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT I HEAR A CLICKING NOISE AS I TURN. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE IS A RING IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT WORKS WITH THE AIRBAG. HE STATED THAT IT CANNOT BE FIX AND THAT IS THE WAY IT IS. WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT OTHER SLIVERADO'S THAT I DROVE DID NOT MAKE THE NOISE HE SAID THAT SOME ARE LOUDER THAN OTHERS BUT THERE'S NOTHING HE CAN DO THE FIX IT. COULD THE RING BE DEFECTIVE? IF SO WILL IT AFFECT THE AIRBAG? *JB
I HAVE A NEW 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500, REGULAR CAB, LONG BED. IT HAS A PRETTY BAD VIBRATION AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, BUT IT IS MOSTLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS, SAY 50 AND UP. THE DEALER HAS BALANCED THE TIRES THREE TIMES AND CONDITION REMAINS. I TOLD THEM SOMETHING IS OUT OF BALANCE. THEY TOLD ME THE TRUCK HAS A KNOWN CONDITION CALLED "BEAM SHAKE." I HAVE HAD TWO OTHER SIMILAR TRUCKS AND THEY DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL A VIBRATION AT HIGH SPEED IS UNSAFE AND CAN LEAD TO A DANGEROUS SITUATION EITHER DIRECTLY, OR INDIRECTLY, BY WAY OF A FAILURE OF A PART, OR LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
MULTIPLE FAILURES OF CHEVROLET OEM HITCH RECEIVERS, I AM EMPLOYED AS AN AVIATION SAFETY INSPECTOR FOR THE HOUSTON TEXAS FLIGHT STANDARDS DISTRICT OFFICE. MY HITCH IS IN THE PROCESS OF FAILING AFTER TOWING A POP-UP TRAILER LESS THAN 100 MILES, IT WAS USED WELL WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE HITCH AND MY 2006 SILVERADO HAS APPROX. 600 MILES ON IT. THIS FAILURE IS APPLICABLE TO 1998-2006 CHEVROLET SUV'S AND TRUCKS. PLEASE GO TO THIS LINK HTTP://WWW.RV.NET/FORUM/INDEX.CFM AND THEN SEARCH HITCH FAILURE. YOU WILL FIND OVER 200 POSTS ABOUT THESE FAILURES. THIS DEFECT HAS REPORTEDLY CAUSED MULTIPLE FATALITIES AND INJURIES WHEN BEING USED PROPERLY AND GM WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFICIENCY. 2006 DURAMAX LBZ. FROM NEW TRUCK INTERMITTENTLY HAS CODE P003A - TURBOCHARGER BOOST CONTROL POSITION NOT LEARNED, P0087 LOW FUEL PRESSURE AND CHANGE FUEL FILTER DISPLAY ON DASH. TRUCK IS TOTALLY STOCK. FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN AT DEALER THEY WOULD DO DIAGNOSTICS AND CHANGE FUEL FILTER SAYING THAT WAS IT AND THEY WOULD RESET ALL CODES. NO DRIVABILITY ISSUES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. RECENTLY (AUGUST 5, 2014) WHILE TRAVELING PULLING A TRAILER TRUCK WENT INTO DERATE/LIMP MODE (FIRST TIME) ALL CODES RETURNED. TOOK TO DEALER, CHANGED FUEL FILTER AND RESET CODES NOW IT IS HAPPENING ABOUT WEEKLY OCTOBER 1, 2014 TOOK TO DEALER RESET CODES DID NOT CHANGE FILTER AS IT WAS JUST DONE AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH FUEL. (MILES 94000) DEALERSHIP SAID EVERYTHING CHECKS NORMAL AND CHEVROLET DOES NOT SHOW AND BULLETINS FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE SHIMMIED IN THE FRONT AND REAR AT 40-60 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SEE OUT OF THE REAR VIEW AND PASSENGER SIDE MIRRORS DUE TO THE SEVERE VIBRATION. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FRAME ON THE 1999-2006 MODEL YEARS OF THESE VEHICLES AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK THE RIGHT SIDE DOOR WAS HARD TO SHUT. THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ON THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN IS LOOSE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT. THE FRONT END ON THE VEHICLE WILL FEEL LOOSE AND BOUNCE WHILE DRIVING OVER UNEVEN PAVEMENT AND BUMPS AND MORE SO WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAYS. THE VEHICLE FEELS UNSAFE. ALL THE DO IS PUT MORE LUBE IN THE SHAFT AND TELL ME I HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. I AM HAVING AN ARBITRATION HEARING. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING GOOD WILL COME OUT OF IT. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS A BEAM FRAME SHAKE; MEANING THAT THAT THE BED OF THE TRUCK WAS TOO LONG, CAUSING THE FRAME TO FLEX AND VIBRATE WHILE MOVING. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED. UDDATED *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, POOR TRACTION WAS OBSERVED WITH THE TIRES. UPON INSPECTION, TREAD PIECES WERE MISSING ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED ALL TIRES WITH THE SAME BRAND NAME OF TIRES. THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THAT THE DEFECTIVE TIRES WOULD BE RESOLD. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERN BECAUSE THIS BRAND AND TIRE MAY NOT BE RELIABLE. UPDATED 11/21/06. *JB
TERRIBLE SMELL AND SMOKE NOTICED FROM UNDER DASH WHILE USING THE AC ON HIGH. THE AIR WAS STILL BLOWING BUT SMOKE STOPPED AFTER I TURNED IT OFF. I HAD TO ROLE DOWN THE WINDOWS QUICKLY AND PULL OVER. I WAS NERVOUS THAT THE DASH WAS ON FIRE, BUT IT SEEMED OK TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER. DEALER REPORTED THAT IT WAS THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR. SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB, AND ON HERE, SHOWS THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON AND EXPENSIVE REPAIR. OPINION OF SEVERAL, INCLUDING ME, IS THAT THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT COULD RESULT IN A SAFETY ISSUE. THE INHALED SMOKE DEFINITELY WAS NOT HEALTHY EITHER. *TR
VALVE STEM ON TIRE BROKE, IMMEDIATE LOSS OF AIR, IT WAS AN INSIDE DUALLY TIRE WHICH SAVED ME FROM GETTING IN A WRECK. IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A FRONT TIRE I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL, AT THE TIME I WAS GOING 50 MPH. COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. *JB
IN NOV. OF 2005 I PURCHASED A CHEVROLET SILVERADO, I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT. I HAVE HAD THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED 3 TIMES AND THE FRONT ONCE, ALSO THE FUEL SYSTEM HAD A PROBLEM, NOW THEY TELL ME THAT I NEED ALL TIRES REPLACED BECAUSE THE COMPOUND IS BAD. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 7,000 MILES ON IT!*JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TURNING THE KEY TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE TAKEN OUT OF PARK WITHOUT APPLYING THE FOOT BRAKE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONSULTED, WHO DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS PURPOSELY DESIGNED IN THAT MANNER. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THAT WHILE THE IGNITION WAS IN ACCESSORY POSITION A CHILD WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK WITHOUT APPLYING THE FOOT BRAKE. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE VEHICLE ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY AND ACROSS THE STREET.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED, THE DIRECTIONS FOR CHANGING A TIRE INDICATED THERE WAS A PAD ON THE AXLE, FOR THE POSITIONING OF THE TIRE JACK. THERE WAS NOT A PAD ON THE AXLE AS INDICATED, LEAVING NO SAFE LOCATION TO POSITION THE TIRE JACK. *AK UPDATED 09/13/06. *JB
STARTING 4 DAYS AFTER DELIVERY OF THIS NEW LIGHT DUTY TRUCK WITH DIESEL ENGINE AND 6 SPEED HEAVY DUTY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, THE TRANSMISSION HAS ALMOST CONTINUALLY MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING WHAT I BELIEVE ARE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS PUTTING MYSELF, MY PASSENGERS, OTHER DRIVERS, AND PEDESTRIANS AT RISK. THE MALFUNCTIONS INCLUDE ACTING LIKE IN NEUTRAL WHEN STARTING FROM A FULL STOP, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV, AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY ENGAGES CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LURCH, SIMILAR PROBLEMS AT THE TRANSMISSION SEARCHES FOR HIGHER GEARS, EVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS; THE ENGAGEMENTS ARE SO HARD I BELIEVE I AM AT RISK SHOULD THIS OCCUR ON LOW TRACTION ROADS, OR ON CURVES. MOST DISTURBING IS THAT MOMENTS AFTER COMING TO A FULL STOP (FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR), THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY (ON NO FEWER THAN 10 OCCASIONS) SENDS A SURGE OF POWER TO THE DRIVE WHEELS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LURCH. I AM FEARFUL THAT THIS MALFUNCTION MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO BE PROPELLED INTO A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF MY, OR WORSE, PINNING A PEDESTRIAN BETWEEN THIS VEHICLE AND A FIXED OBJECT. ALSO SHOCKING IS THAT UPON THE VEHICLE BEING RETURNED TO ME FOR THE 3RD TIME ON AUGUST 11TH, WITHIN AN 1/8 OF A MILE FORM THE DEALERSHIP, AS I APPROACHED A STOP THE VEHICLE WHEELS SUDDENLY LOCKED UP FOR A MOMENT. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE MANAGER DROVE THE VEHICLE. HE REPEATEDLY DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM AND EXPERIMENTED BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL, SHOCKINGLY, WHILE IN NEUTRAL, THE TRANSMISSION STILL SEEMED TO ENGAGE THE DRIVE WHEELS AS WE APPROACHED A STOP. ONLY 42 DAYS SINCE DELIVERY, AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR SERVICE FOR 13 DAYS, AND HAS ALSO CONTINUED TO MALFUNCTION WHILE UNDER MY CONTROL ANOTHER 12 DAYS. I BELIEVE THE DEALER, AUTO MANUFACTURER, AND THE TRANSMISSION MANUFACTURER (WHO IS SAID TO BE PROVIDING DIRECT INSTRUCTION TO THE DEALER ON DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR) ARE PLACING ME AND OTHERS AT SERIOUS RISK OF INJURY. *NM
THE 2006 SILVERADO ONLY PROVIDES TWO OPTIONS FOR AUTO DOOR LOCKS (1. IN GEAR 2. AT SPEED). PRIOR TO 2005 THERE WAS A THIRD OPTION FOR "NO AUTO DOOR LOCK OR DISABLE". BESIDES BEING A HUGE INCONVENIENCE TO MANY OWNERS IT IS POTENTIALLY A SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU NEED TO EXIT THE TRUCK IN AN EMERGENCY AND THE VEHICLE HAS LOCKED ALL OF THE DOORS FOR YOU. LET THE OWNER DECIDE WHICH PROGRAM TO USE BASED ON THEIR OWN NEEDS AND PREFERENCES. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT TIRES ARE RUBBING AGAINST THE SUSPENSION, CAUSING UNEVEN TREAD WEAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THE FAILURE HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. HOWEVER, THE CHEVROLET MECHANICS ARE JUST ACKNOWLEDGING THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 20,900 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
FRONT END OUT OF ALIGNMENT CONSTANTLY, TIRES WEAR OUT, DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED OR REFINISHED ROTORS THREE OR MORE TIMES AND THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES, THE ENGINE WHILE LIGHTLY ACCELERATING MAKE A NOISE, DEALER SAID HE COULD NOT HEAR THIS NOISE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE THAT WAS PURCHASED ON 06/16/06 WAS EQUIPPED WITH POOR QUALITY BRAKES IN THE REAR. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO EQUIPPED WITH DISC BRAKES IN THE FRONT AND DRUM BRAKES IN THE REAR. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THAT THE SAME MODEL FROM YEARS 2000-2004 WAS EQUIPPED WITH STANDARD DISC BRAKES IN THE FRONT AND REAR, WHICH PROVIDE BETTER BRAKING POWER THAN DRUM BRAKES. THE CONTACT SUGGESTED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN EQUIPPED WITH THE STANDARD 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES SINCE THE VEHICLE IS A NEWER MODEL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ENTERING INTO A DRIVEWAY AT A SPEED OF 5 MPH THE VEHICLE HIT A POTHOLE DETACHING THE CENTER BOLT ON THE REAR AXLE. THIS CAUSED THE AXLE TO SLIDE BACK 8 INCHES FROM THE SPRING. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO DETERMINED THERE WAS NO RECOURSE OF ACTION. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SUNROOF HAS A SCREEN RATHER THAN A SHADE TO FILTER THE SUN SHINING THROUGH. THIS HAS CAUSED A VISIBILITY PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THERE IS NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE FOR THE SUNROOF.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND CAUSED EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT TIRE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE VEHICLE HAD A PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE WEAR ON THE TIRES BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT.

I BOUGHT A 06 CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUP IN JUNE 06. THE TRUCK HAS 1800 MILES ON IT AND IT HAS A BAD VIBRATION AT ANY SPEED OVER 30 MPH. I HAVE BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY REBALANCE THE TIRES. THE LAST TIME I WAS THERE THEY LET 5 LBS OF AIR OUT OF EACH TIRE. THEY ARE NOW TELLING ME THAT IT IS "THE NATURE OF THE BEAST" AND THE TIRES HAVE TO GET BROKE IT BEFORE THE VIBRATION WILL STOP. THE TRUCK HAS GENERAL AMERITRAC P245/70/R17 TIRES ON IT. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL TIRE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES ARE OUT OF ROUND AND LOPING CAUSING THE VIBRATION IN THE TRUCK. THE DEALER KEEPS GIVING ME THE SAYING THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE CHEVROLET FACTORY REP TO COME THERE. I AN AFRAID TO DRIVE THE TRUCK WITH THIS VIBRATION AS I AM UNABLE TO WALK AND USE A WHEELCHAIR AND I DON'T WANT TO BE BROKE DOWN SOMEPLACE WITH THIS TRUCK. THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION ON MY 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HAS A PROBLEM. WHEN THE CLUTCH IS PRESSED YOU CAN NOT SHIFT, OR IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT GEARS. AND THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS CHEVROLET DESIGNED ALL STANDARD TRANSMISSION VEHICLES TO WORK THIS WAY. THEY SAY THERE IS NOT ANYTHING TO FIX. I BELIEVE THAT SINCE THE TRANSMISSION IS HARD TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION COULD WEAR OUT TOO FAST, OR AND THIS IS MY BIG FEAR, THE TRANSMISSION COULD FAIL WHILE THE TRUCK IS BEING DRIVEN AND A ACCIDENT COULD HAPPEN, OR THE TRUCK COULD BREAK DOWN IN AN UNSAFE PLACE OR TIME. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALER MANY, MANY TIMES. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AGREES THAT THE TRUCK DOESN'T SHIFT LIKE ANY STANDARD TRANSMISSION HE HAS DRIVEN EITHER. YET, THE OFFICIAL WORD IS THAT THIS IS NORMAL, AND THERE IS NOTHING TO FIX. HE SAYS ALL THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION SILVERADO TRUCKS SHIFT THIS WAY. HOW DANGEROUS!!! IF SOMEONE IS DRIVING AND NEEDS TO SHIFT, YET THE ENGINE WILL NOT SHIFT, THERE COULD BE A WRECK, THE TRUCKS TRANSMISSION COULD FAIL, AND LEAVE A PERSON STRANDED IN A VERY DANGEROUS PART OF TOWN. I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, HOWEVER, WHAT COMFORT IS THAT, IF THE TRICK HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR FAILURE. THIS PROBLEM SHORTENS THE LIFE OF THE TRUCK. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING A U-TURN AT 40MPH, THERE WAS A LOSS OF CONTROL, THE VEHICLE STRUCK A TREE AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEATBELT HOWEVER, MINOR INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A CRASH, THE POLICE WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT BODY REPAIR SHOP, BUT THE AIRBAGS WERE NOT INSPECTED.
CONSUMER WAS SOLD A 2006 SILVERADO WITH ENGINE DAMAGES. *TS ***NAR*** WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM WHAT HE HAD DISCOVERED WIT THE ENGINE COWLING, THEY HAD ADVISED HIM IT WAS SQUIRREL DAMAGE. EVEN THOUGH THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM, THEY REFUSED TO GIVE THE CONSUMER ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER AND HIS FAMILY HAD BECOME SICK. THEY BELIEVED IT WAS FROM THE BACTERIA COMING FROM THE VENTING SYSTEM. THE FRONT TIRES WERE OUT OF ROUND AND THE RIMS WERE BENT. *JB
2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 EXTENDED 0.5 TON: SPEAR-TIRE LOWERING DEVICE. THE PLASTIC TUBE FROM BUMPER TO SQUARE LOWERING NIPPLE DOES NOT ALIGN. WHEN INSERTING RODE INTO TUBE YOU CANNOT CONNECT WITH NIPPLE. AFTER 25 MIN. IF FISHING AROUND FOR CONNECTION ONE PERSON MUST CRAWL UNDER THE VEHICLE, LOOK THROUGH SMALL HOLE IN RIM OF THE SPARE-TIRE AND WITH THE THIRD LINK OF CRANK RODE PUSH THE TUBE UP AND HAVE THE OTHER PERSON MAKE THE CRANK TO NIPPLE CONNECTION. THE TUBE WAS NOT BROKEN JUST TOO FLEXIBLE AND WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT BY AT LEAST 2 INCHES. ONE PERSON FAR FROM ANY HELP LIKE WE WERE WOULD BE IN TROUBLE. ALSO, THERE NEEDS TO BE A FLAT METAL CONTACT PAD ON THE REAR AXLE THAT THE JACK TOP CAN REST ON. THE JACK TOP IS ALMOST FLAT AND SEEING IT RESTING ON A ROUND AXLE IS UNSETTLING. THE JACK NEED TO ALSO EXTEND AT LEAST 1 INCH MORE THEN IT DOES BECAUSE AT FULL HEIGHT THE TIRE BARELY WENT ON. WE COULD HAVE REPOSITIONED THE JACK FURTHER DOWN THE AXLE TO GET MORE HEIGHT. *NM
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 IN MAY 2006. I HAVE HAD 9 TIRES REPLACED DUE TO BEING OUT OF ROUND (GENERAL TIRES P245/70R17) THE VIBRATION IS SO BAD . I HAVE ALSO HAD THE ROTORS SHIMMIED AT 16,000 MILES. I WAS JUST TOLD TODAY 4-17-07 THAT MY TRUCK HAS A FRAME BEAMING PROBLEM AND NO ONE KNOWS WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX IT. OUR NEW 2006 CHEVROLET CK1500 4X4 EXTENDED CAB PICK UP TRUCK HAS A CRUISE CONTROL DEFECT THAT CHEVROLET DISMISSES AS NORMAL. WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND START UP A HILL THE TRUCK SLOWS DOWN AT LEAST 10 MILES AN HOUR THEN SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM JOLTS THE TRUCK FORWARD TRYING TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LOSS OF SPEED. THIS IS STARTLING TO SAY THE LEAST. IT HAS HAPPENED TO US GOING UP HILLS AND AROUND HILLY CURVES. IF I DID NOT KEEP BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL I VERY WELL COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED. I HAVE MET ONE OTHER PERSON WHO OWNS A CHEVROLET SUV AND HE TOLD ME HE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. HE SIMPLY STATED THAT HE "JUST DOESN'T USE THE CRUISE CONTROL". I THINK CHEVROLET IS FUDGING THE TRUTH TO TELL ME IT IS NORMAL AND HAS TO DO WITH GEAR RATIOS WHEN I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS VEHICLES WHICH DO NOT COMMIT THIS ACTIVITY. THE DEALER HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL CONCERNING THIS MATTER AND I DO NOT HOLD HIM TO FAULT. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD A DEFECT IN THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE DEALERSHIP MADE THE REPAIRS ACCORDING TO THE GENERAL MOTORS BULLETIN. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE BRACKETS WERE OBSERVED EXTENDED 3.5 TO 4 INCHES FROM THE VEHICLES FRAME. THIS REPAIR CREATED A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE THE BRACKET COULD EASILY COLLIDE WITH ROAD BUMPS. WHEN THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALERSHIP WERE CONTACTED BOTH OFFERED TO RETURN THE EXHAUST PIPE TO ITS ORIGINAL STATUS, WHICH THE CONTACT CONSIDERED UNACCEPTABLE.
DRIVING AT LOW SPEED IN DOWNTOWN MACON, RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. SIDEWALL HAD 0.5 INCH SLIT AND OBVIOUSLY WAS BEGINNING TO "SEPARATE" (I COULD SEE WHAT LOOKED LIKE A THREAD). TIRES WERE JUST BALANCED/ROTATED WEEK OF APRIL 10, 2006. TREAD LOOKS OK. COULD SEE "DETERIORATION" AROUND ENTIRE TIRE SIDEWALL ABOVE LETTERING AND BELOW TREAD. INSPECTED THE INNER SIDE OF THE TIRE WALL AND NOTICED SAME DETERIORATION IN SAME AREA (RUBBER WAS CRACKED IN DEFINED AREA COMPLETELY AROUND THE TIRE). *NM
