REAR BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO HEAVY CORROSION CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND EXTREMELY REDUCED BRAKE PERFORMANCE. *TR
I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I DISCOVERED THAT MY BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND ONE LINE HAS A HOLE IN IT. MY VEHICLE HAS LOW MILES AND THIS SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I OR MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED. *TR
ABS APPLIES FOR NO REASON AT 10 TO 5 MPH. MAKING TRUCK TRAVEL 6 TO 15 FEET BEYOND EXPECTED STOPPING DISTANCE. I THINK THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PARK THE VEHICLE AND UPON EXITING, NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-THEFT ALARM SOUNDED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE ALARM WAS TRIGGERED BY THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYING INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE CAUSED THE RADIO AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO ALSO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER OPERABLE AND WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.
TESTING NEW FRONT BRAKES AND REAR BRAKE LINES RUPTURED. LIMPED HOME, PARKED TRUCK CALLED GM. NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE IN THE PAST. GM SEEMS NOT VERY CONCERNED AND MAY GET BACK TO ME. I FEEL FORTUNATE TO HAVE ESCAPED SERIOUS INJURY TO MY FAMILY AND SELF. I THINK THAT IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE FOR GM TO USE INFERIOR PRODUCTS AND PLAY RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH OUR SAFETY. PLEASE UTILIZE THIS INFORMATION TO RAISE THE SAFETY STANDARDS BY WHICH THESE COMPANIES HAVE COMPROMISED FOR THE SAKE OF THEIR PROFIT MARGINS. SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINES
ANOTHER VEHICLE RAN A RED LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND I HAD TO APPLY BRAKES QUICKLY. THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED , I SWERVED, AND BARELY MISSED THE OTHER CAR. THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF I WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE. LATTER FOUND THAT THE RUPTURE WAS CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE RUST. HAD THAT SECTION REPLACED BUT ITS TOO EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES - WAITING FOR ANOTHER FAILURE. *TR
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. CLUNKING IN STEERING MAKES YOU FEEL SOMETHING IS LOOSE WITH THE FRONT END AND OR STEERING. HAD SHAFT REPLACED WITH NO POSITIVE RESULTS. GM SAYS TO REPLACE WITH THEIR SHAFT. ORIGINAL REPLACED WITH A DORMAN PART NUMBER 425-176 SAID TO BE BETTER THAN GM. *TR
MY TRUCK AT SPEEDS AROUND 35MPH WHILE LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR IT WOULD JUMP OUT OF GEAR. SO THEN, IN 2012, I HAD THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR MOTOR REPLACED AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. THEN JUST YESTERDAY (OCT. 31, 2014) I HAD CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70MPH AND WHEN IT WOULD COAST OR TRY TO SLOW ITSELF DOWN TO MAINTAIN ITS SPEED, I WOULD HERE A CLUNKING NOISE AND IT WOULD JERK. WHEN I LET OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND WOULD LET IT ROLL TO A STOP IT WOULD POP OUT OF GEAR! I MADE IT BACK TO TOWN AND EVEN AT SLOWER SPEEDS IT WOULD JUMP OUT OF GEAR TO THE POINT WHERE I HAD TO PUT IT IN 4WD HIGH TO BE ABLE TO MOVE. I SPOKE WITH A MECHANIC AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HE SAID THEY HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THEM LIKE MINE WHICH IS WHY I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME ATTENTION BROUGHT TO THEM. *TR
I PURCHASED 2006 SILVERADO NEW AND AFTER THE 1ST YEAR NOTICED RUSTING. JUST BEFORE IT CAME OFF WARRANTY (2009) THE COOLANT LINE FROM THE RADIATOR AND THE BRAKE ROTORS (FRONT AND REAR) HAD RUSTED THROUGH. HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE ROTORS AGAIN AND NOW MY BRAKE LINE BURST OPEN AS I WAS DRIVING HOME. ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE IS RUSTED (FRAME IS PEELING UP IN LAYERS), THERE IS RUST COMING THROUGH THE BUMPERS, ON THE WHEELS, IN THE BED, INSIDE THE DRIVER'S DOOR - BASICALLY EVERYWHERE I LOOK (I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHEVROLET IN 2010 ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE RUSTING AND WAS TOLD, AFTER INSPECTION BY LOCAL DEALER, THAT THERE WAS "NO ABNORMAL RUSTING FOUND"). I BABY THIS TRUCK (IT ONLY HAS 26,000 MILES AND IS NOT DRIVEN ON THE ROADS WHEN THEY ARE SALTED) AND KEEP IT VERY CLEAN. I AM AFRAID FOR MY SAFETY AS I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO FAIL NEXT. TODAY I SPOKE WITH CHEVROLET AGAIN ABOUT THE BRAKE LINES, AGAIN INSPECTED AT THE LOCAL DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" AND CAUSED BY ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS. IN ADDITION, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS ARE RUSTED THROUGH AND MUST BE REPLACED. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE CORROSION IS DUE SOLELY TO ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND NOT AT ALL DUE TO MATERIAL CHOICE AND LACK OF APPROPRIATE COATING? I AM ONLY ASKING THAT THEY COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE LINES AND THEY DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED TO DO SO. THEY DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS POOR DESIGN OR SUBPAR MATERIALS. (NEITHER OF MY OTHER TWO VEHICLES, 1993 TOYOTA PICKUP AND 2004 VOLVO, SHOW RUSTING OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE TO THE SAME DEGREE AS THE SILVERADO AND THE BRAKE LINES OF BOTH OTHER VEHICLES ARE COMPLETELY INTACT. ALL THREE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN SUBJECTED TO THE SAME ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS.) *TR

DAMAGE TO FRONT & REAR UTILITY TOOL BOXES; LEFT REAR MUD FLAP & FUEL FILTER ASSEMBLY RIPPED AWAY. 07/28/2010: 79,965 MILES. REPLACED TIRE DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION 08/31/2010: MICHELIN SENT LETTER STATING COMPLETION OF 07/15/2010 CLAIM FINDING NO DEFECT IN DESIGN OF TIRE OR REASON FOR INCIDENT; PAID PARTIAL REPAIR DAMAGES. 11/05/2010: REPLACED TIRE DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. 02/01/2011: 90,101 MILES. REPLACED TIRE DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. 06/18/2012: 112,000 MILES. NOTICED BUBBLE (APPROX. 1 INCH IN SIZE) ON FRONT PASSENGER TIRE; PARKED VEHICLE IN SHADE; APPROX. 1 1/2 HRS LATER REMOVED BAD TIRE; NOTICED BUBBLE GREW BIGGER IN SIZE (APPROX. 3 IN.); LEANED BAD TIRE UPRIGHT AGAINST VEHICLE; INSTALLED SPARE TIRE (APPROX. 15-20 MIN), TURNED TO RETRIEVE BAD TIRE; TIRE EXPLODED LITERALLY IN FACE; NO INJURY DUE TO SAFETY GLASSES. OTHER PERSON HAD JUST TURNED AWAY AT EXPLOSION WITH TIRE PARTS HIT HIM IN BACK; NO INJURY. *JS
TL* CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE BRAKE LINE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES. APPROXIMATELY 34,000 MILES LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY SALT AND RUST ON THE BRAKE LINES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
FIRST TIME BRAKE LINE BROKE AT DEALERS PARKING LOT. LINE REPAIRED TWO WEEKS LATER WHILE STOPPING FOR RED LIGHT ANOTHER BRAKE LINE RUPTURED MONTH LATER WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP FOR VEHICLE STOPPED IN FRONT ANOTHER BRAKE LINE BURST MINOR COLLISION NO DAMAGE. DEALER AT THIS TIME REPLACED ALL BRAKE LINES IN VEHICLE AS I REFUSED TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT EVERY LINE REPLACED PERIOD. *TR
HAD SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. NO WARNING LIGHT. PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD. FOUND ROTTEN BRAKE LINES AT FRAME RAIL WHERE LINES CROSS OVER AT PLASTIC BLOCK THAT HOLDS LINES TO FRAME. FLUID LEAKED OUT. *TR
I WAS LEAVING THE DOWNTOWN AREA OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, AND I WAS IN THE LANE TO GET ONTO 77 SOUTH. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE 4-5 VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME STARTED GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, THE FIRST ACCELERATED INTO THE ADJACENT LANE TO REVEAL CONSTRUCTION CONES IN OUR LANE. THE REMAINING VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES AND I SLAMMED ON MINE. AT THAT INSTANT, MY BRAKE PEDAL SUNK TO THE FLOOR. I REACTED QUICKLY (THANK GOD) AND SWERVED LEFT TO AVOID THE COLLISION. MY TRUCK CAME TO REST ABOUT 10 FEET PAST THE SMALL SEDAN IN FRONT OF ME. I WOULD HAVE WRECKED THE BACK OF THAT CAR AND CAUSED A CHAIN REACTION IN FRONT AND BACK OF ME HAD I NOT BEEN ABLE TO REACT AS QUICKLY AS I HAD. THE REPLACEMENT OF ALL THE BRAKE LINES (THE ONE LEAKING IS AS CORRODED AS THE OTHERS) PLUS FRONT BRAKE WORK IS GOING TO COST ME AROUND $3800. NOT SOMETHING I WAS EXPECTING FROM A 6 YEAR OLD TRUCK, NOR ANYTHING I CAN AFFORD RIGHT NOW. IT IS MY WORK TRUCK, I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE, AND IT'S MORE OF A REPAIR THAN I FEEL COMFORTABLE TACKLING ON MY OWN. CHEVY NEEDS TO STEP UP AND SHOULDER SOME RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE HAD TWO OTHER TRUCKS IN THIS CLIMATE AND NEVER SAW THE LINES CORRODE LIKE THIS. *TT
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ON MY TRUCK HAS GONE BAD. THE AMPERES ARE POINTING STRAIGHT DOWN. THE TEMPERATURE REGISTER HAS GONE COMPLETELY AROUND, THE OIL PRESSURE GAGE IS PEGGED ALL THE WAY. THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS FOR 20 MINUTES AND THEN LOCKS UP. I HAVE TALKED WITH OTHERS WHO HAVE SILVERADOS AND THEY STATE THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN GREAT BESIDE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE AC BLOWING HOT ON ONE SIDE AND COLD ON THE OTHER. WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN ON THESE TWO ITEMS, IT SHOWS WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. MY FAMILY BELIEVES IN CHEVY TRUCKS BUT THEY SHOULD KEEP OUR LOYALTY BUT CORRECTING THE SMALL MANUFACTURER DEFECT TO PROVE THEY ARE THE BETTER PRODUCT INSTEAD OF LEAVING THEIR LOYAL PATRONS TO FIX SUBSTANDARD ITEMS PLACED IN A GREAT TRUCK. *TR
DRIVING HOME FROM STORE ONLY TO HAVE A VEHICLE STOP SHORT IN FRONT OF ME. APPLIED BRAKES AND TO MY SURPRISE THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I HAD ROOM TO MANEUVER AROUND TRAFFIC AND AVOID AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP AND I WAS TOLD LEFT FRONT BREAK LINE RUSTED OUT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND I CAN ATTEST THAT NO UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES OCCURRED TO WARRANT BRAKE LINE RUSTING OUT. MOVING FORWARD 16 MONTHS I WAS LEAVING THE HOUSE ONLY TO HAVE BRAKES GO TO THE FLOOR. VEHICLE TOWED TO CHEVY DEALER. DEALER TELLS ME ALL BRAKE LINES RUSTED BADLY (EXCEPT ONE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED) AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT TO THE TUNE OF $2700.00. GOOD THING I WAS NOT DRIVING OR WORSE YET PULLING MY 8000 POUND CAMPER. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOME ONE GETTING KILLED BEFORE CHEVY IS MADE TO ADMIT THEY HAVE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE BRAKE LINES. *JS
WE BROUGHT OUR 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH AROUND 73,000 MILES ON IT TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR A TUNE UP AND WE WERE TOLD THE FOLLOWING: 'THE FUEL LINES ARE VERY RUSTED (STARTING TO SEEP BACK BY THE TANK AREA) THE BRAKE LINES ARE VERY RUSTED, THE TRUCK WILL NEED REAR BRAKES VERY SOON, ALL BRAKE HOSES WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, THE BLEEDERS ON CALIPERS ARE RUSTED OUT, THE SHIMMY SHOCK IN THE FRONT END IS BLOWN APART, HAS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE IDLER ARM, FRONT SHOCKS RUSTED & LEAKING, REAR SHOCKS RUSTED, REAR END COVER RUSTED, THE TRANSFER CASE TAIL SHAFT IS LEAKING, THE FRAME IS RUSTED & GETTING THIN IN SPOTS, HAS AT LEAST THREE BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD STUDS' WE UNDERSTAND THAT BRAKE PADS AND CALIPERS ARE USUAL REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IS ONLY SIX YEARS OLD AND THE TRUCK SHOULD NOT BE VERY RUSTED. WE CALLED CHEVROLET AND OPENED A CASE TO REVIEW THE RUST ISSUES. WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A DEALERSHIP AS REQUESTED BY CHEVROLET FOR A VISUAL INSPECTION. USING DOCUMENT ID #2758961, THE TECHNICIANS DETERMINED 'NO REPAIR OR CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN FOR THIS CONCERN - SURFACE CORROSION ON UNPROTECTED COMPONENTS WILL VARY WITH AGE AND EXPOSURE. CORROSION ON THESE COMPONENTS WILL VARY WITH AGE AND EXPOSURE. CORROSION ON THESE COMPONENTS HAS NO DETRIMENTAL IMPACTS, EITHER IN SHORT OR LONG TERM DURABILITY." HOWEVER, THEY EXPLAINED THAT IF THEY WERE US, THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES. THE CHEVROLET CASE WORKER CALLED THE DEALER AND CONFIRMED THE FINDINGS. HE EXPLAINED TO US THAT THE RUST WAS DUE TO ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. WE TRIED TO GET A DEFINITION OF ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, HOWEVER THE WORKER WOULD NOT EXPLAIN FURTHER. . THE TRUCK RESIDES IN THE NORTH EAST; IT IS SUBJECTED, AS ALL VEHICLES ARE, TO MANY ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS EVERY DAY. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIGHT AND LEFT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ALL BRAKE LINES CORRODED ALSO HAD 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO SAME PROBLEM THIS IS A COMMON GM PROBLEM. *JS
THE RANGE INDICATOR STATED 54 MILES, YET RAN OUT OF FUEL. GAUGE READ 1/4 TANK. THE NEXT TIME RANGE WAS 89 MILES AND RAN OUT. *TR
EXPERIENCED BRAKING FAILURE AND ACTIVATION OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WHEN BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS CAUSES LONGER BRAKING TIMES AND DISTANCES AND I HAVE NARROWLY AVOIDED HITTING CARS IN FRONT OF ME, RUNNING STOP SIGNS, ETC. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PHENOMENON, IT IS KNOWN AS UNINTENDED LOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION - A COMMON PROBLEM FOR OLDER MODEL GM TRUCKS. ADDITIONAL RESEARCH HAS REVEALED THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2006 SILVERADOS, YET IT HAS YET TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. IT IS COMMONLY THE RESULT OF AN INCREASED AIR GAP BETWEEN THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND HUB RELUCTOR RING DUE TO RUST AND DEBRIS BUILD UP ON THE SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE. THIS IS A SERIOUS HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED FOR SILVERADO TRUCKS FROM RUST-BELT STATES. *TR
RAILROAD HYRAIL VEHICLE EQUIPPED, AFTER MARKET, WITH HYRAIL WHEEL ASSEMBLIES WHICH ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE ON RAILROAD TRACKS. ONCE HYRAIL (FLANGED) WHEELS ARE RETRACTED, THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED OVER THE HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC ROADS LIKE ANY OTHER VEHICLE. ON 3/16/12 A BNSF EMPLOYEE WAS OPERATING THE HYRAIL VEHICLE ON HWY 34 NEAR TRENTON, NE. A SEMI PULLED OUT IN FROM OF HIM, CAUSING HIM TO REAR END THE SEMI AT ABOUT 65 MPH. DELAYED AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT LED TO HIM HAVING EXTENSIVE INJURIES, INCLUDING LACERATIONS TO HIS FOREHEAD, COLLAPSED LUNGS, SPINE FRACTURES AND RIB FRACTURES. CONCERN IS THAT THE INSTALLATION OF HYRAIL WHEEL ASSEMBLIES MIGHT BE IMPACTING THE AIRBAG SENSOR. THE HYRAIL WHEEL ASSEMBLIES EXTEND APPROX. ONE FOOT OF STEEL FRAMEWORK AHEAD OF THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS. THE PLACEMENT OF THESE ASSEMBLIES MIGHT INADVERTENTLY BE AFFECTING AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT IN CRASHES ON THE RAILROAD TRACK AND ON PUBLIC ROADS.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A DEALER WITH A ONE YEAR CERTIFIED USED WARRANTY AT 49K MILES. WITHIN A MONTH OF PURCHASE I NOTICED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FREE-PLAY IN THE STEERING AND NOTICED A LOOSE PITMAN ARM WHEN ROTATING THE STEERING WHEEL AND OBSERVING THIS PART. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS IN THE INDIANAPOLIS AREA. AFTER THEIR INSPECTION AND CONSULTING GM CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, I WAS TOLD FREE-PLAY WAS NORMAL OR WITHIN PARAMETERS. ONE YEAR LATER AND 69K MILES, I TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE (OIL & FILTER CHANGES ETC) AND TO HAVE THEM PLEASE LOOK AT THE BRAKES AS I COULD FEEL A VIBRATION. THE VEHICLE IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY... THEY TELL ME NOW THAT THESE PARTS (PITMAN ARM / STEERING BOX) WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS TO THE TUNE OF JUST UNDER $2,000. I HAVE DONE MY OWN RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS IN REGARDS TO STEERING ASSEMBLY / PARTS ON THESE TRUCKS. NOTHING I HAVE FOUND SAYS THAT THIS MUCH FREE-PLAY IS "NORMAL" IN REGARDS TO THIS VEHICLE AND IN FACT, SOME FRONT WHEEL AXLES AND WHEEL ASSEMBLIES HAVE ACTUALLY SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. MY WHEELS OR BEARINGS (I SAW FOR MYSELF WHEN IT WAS ON THE LIFT AND I HAVE THE OLD PARTS) HAD A DANGEROUS AMOUNT OF WOBBLE IN THEM, WITH THE RIGHT WHEEL HAVING IN EXCESS OF 1" OF TILT OR LOOSENESS. THIS IN MY OPINION DOES NOT CONSTITUTE "NORMAL" PLAY AND I QUESTION GM'S HONESTY CONCERNING THIS ISSUE... WHY IS THIS ACCEPTABLE WHEN UNDER WARRANTY BUT NEEDS EXPENSIVE REPAIR WHEN ITS ON MY DIME? I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500, 4-DOOR. I HAD MY WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN IN THE TRUCK. WHEN WE GOT TO OUR DESTINATION, MY DAUGHTER COULD NOT OPEN HER DOOR (REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR). I CONFIRMED THE DOORS WERE UNLOCKED BY USING THE AUTOMATIC LOCK/UNLOCK FEATURE I HAVE ON THE DRIVERS DOOR. I TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE, BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK. I TRIED TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE, BUT THE DOOR WOULD STILL NOT OPEN. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE ELECTRONIC LATCH HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO TOLD ME THEY HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH THE LATCHES WHICH PREVENTED THE DOOR FROM OPENING. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

VEHICLE ALMOST HIT GARAGE DUE TO PULSING OF BRAKES DURING DRY STOP. AN INSPECTION REVEALED FLUID LEAKAGE AT THE ABS MODULE UNDER THE CAB. BRAKE LINES APPEAR SEVERELY PITTED AND CORRODED. *KB

WHILE APPROACHING A ONE LANE BRIDGE ON DRY, CLEAN PAVEMENT AT APPROX 10 MPH I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE TO LINE UP WITH THE BRIDGE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO BRAKE, WITH THE ABS LIGHT COMING ON AND STAYED ON AND A LOUD NOISE CAME FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL WELL. I CLOSELY MISSED HITTING THE RAIL OF THE BRIDGE (WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN A 20FT PLUNGE OFF THE BRIDGE) AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED FOR ANOTHER 20 TO 25 FT WHILE ON THE SLIGHT DOWN HILL GRADED SLOPE. NO MATTER HOW I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND AND I UTILIZED MY TRAINING AS AN EMERGENCY APPARATUS DRIVER AND PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO A LOWER GEAR AND DRIFTED IT INTO AN EMBANKMENT TO STOP. I THEN BACKED THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE EMBANKMENT AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED FINE BUT THE ABS LIGHT REMAINS ON. AS I SEE WITH OTHER POSTS THIS IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE SILVERADO THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
FRONT BRAKE LINES RUSTED BADLY ON FRAME RAIL ON TWO CHEVYS WE OWN. *TR
THE LEFT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNT TORE COMPLETELY THROUGH AND SEPARATED FROM THE MAIN AXLE HOUSING. BECAUSE THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE WAS MOUNTED TO THE SHOCK MOUNT, WHEN THE MOUNT FAILED, THE SHOCK ABSORBER EXTENDED FULLY AND RUPTURED THE BRAKE LINE TO THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. THIS RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 40 AT 65 MPH. AT NO TIME DID THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER ON THE DASH INDICATE A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. AFTER USING ELECTRIC TRAILER BRAKES TO SLOW AND STOP THE VEHICLE COMBINATION, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE MOVED TO A PARKING AREA. UPON SHUTTING OFF THE IGNITION, A NOTICE CAME ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER STATING, "SERVICE BRAKES SOON". UPON EXAMINATION, THE MASTER BRAKE RESERVOIR WAS DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 50%. THE LEFT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER, THE BRAKE LINE AND THE SHOCK MOUNTING BRACKET WERE ALL HANGING APPROXIMATELY 4" ABOVE THE PAVEMENT. THE TRAILER BEING HAULED WAS LESS THAN 1/2 OF THE RATED TOW WEIGHT AND THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN OPERATED ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM FOR ALMOST 5 WEEKS WITH NO OFFROAD OR HEAVY HAULING. WHEN TEMPORARY REPAIRS WERE MADE AT A WINGFOOT TRUCK CENTER, THE MECHANIC WHO WELDED THE SHOCKMOUNT BACK TO THE AXLE HOUSING INDICATED THAT HE HAD SEEN TWO FAILURES AT THE SAME POINT IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. HE THOUGHT THAT ONE WAS A 2007 GMC 2500 HD AND MY 2500 HD CHEVROLET DIESEL. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT LENLYALL CHEVROLET IN AURORA, CO THERE WAS NO FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM PROPORTIONING VALVE BECAUSE NONE WAS PRESENT IN THE HYDRO BRAKE SYSTEM INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. ALL OTHER SHOCK MOUNTS WERE EXAMINED AND FOUND TO BE OK. . AT THIS TIME GM IS REFUSING TO TAKE ANY FURTHER ACTION DUE TO THE FACT THAT REPAIRS WERE ALREADY TEMPORARILY MADE. *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT AND TWO PASSENGERS IN THE SECOND VEHICLE WERE TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT OF INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

AT A COST OF $400. EVENTUALLY, ALL HUB SENSORS BEGAN GIVING FALSE INDICATIONS. WAS TOLD BY DEALER IT WAS ATTRIBUTED TO A DEFECTIVE DESIGN, BUT THERE WAS NO BULLETIN OR RECALL TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE ALL HUBS IF IT IS ONLY GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. GM SHOULD MAKE GOOD ON THESE REPAIRS.
