RECEIVED A RECALL # 49151 LETTER IN JULY 2016 STATING THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG INFLATORS ARE DEFECTIVE AND THAT I WOULD RECEIVED A LETTER WHEN PARTS WERE RECEIVED. I NEVER GOT A LETTER SO I CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE # 1-800-222-1020 ON 8-22-2016 SPOKE WITH LISA AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO PARTS AND VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. IF THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE WHY DID I RECEIVED THE RECALL.

MY GARAGE KEPT SILVERADO DASH IS CRACKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT FORMED OVER NIGHT AND NOW HAS GROWN ABOUT 6 INCHES.
THE DASH BOARD ON MY 2008 SILVERADO LTZ IS CRACKING IN SEVERAL PLACES, MY SAFETY CONCERN IS, THAT IF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WERE TO DEPLOY, THERE IS A GREAT POSSIBILITY THAT SHARP PIECES (SHARDS) OF THE CRACKING, DEFECTIVE DASH, WOULD BE SENT FLYING THROUGH THE CAB. THIS COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE LACERATIONS AND BLINDNESS. THIS DASH CRACKING ON 2007-2014 GM PRODUCTS IS WELL KNOWN AND VERY COMMON. REPLACING THE FACTORY DASH IS VERY COSTLY. I AM CONCERNED THAT AFTERMARKET "COVERS" OR "CAPS" MIGHT INTERFERE WITH THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. ALSO THERE IS A RECALL 49151 ON THE AIR BAGS. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT AN AFTER MARKET "CAP" OR "COVER" MIGHT INTERFERE WITH THE REPLACEMENT OR SERVICE OF THE RECALLED AIR BAG, AS MOST OF THESE AFTERMARKET CAPS ARE DIFFICULT TO "UNINSTALL", IF ACCESS IS NEEDED TO REPAIR OR REPLACE COMPONENTS BELOW THE DASH.
TAKATA RECALL RECEIVED LETTER STATING MY TRUCK IS AFFECTED BY THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. THE LETTER SAYS MY TRUCK IS "CONSIDERED SAFE TO DRIVE" FOLLOWED BY A PARAGRAPH THAT SAYS "THE INFLATOR MAY RUPTURE DURING DEPLOYMENT, CAUSING SERIOUS OR FATAL INJURIES". I GOT A SIMILAR NOTICE FROM LEXUS A FEW DAYS EARLIER, AND LEXUS OFFERED A RENTAL NO QUESTIONS ASKED UNTIL THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED. THE CHEVY DEALER SAID THEY ARE NOT OFFERING RENTALS AT THIS TIME. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID MY TRUCK IS SAFE TO DRIVE SO NO RENTAL WARRANTED. I ASKED THE REP WHY DID I GET A LETTER THEN SAYING THAT MY AIRBAG MAY KILL ME AND WAS TOLD SHE CAN'T ANSWER THAT. I WANT A RENTAL OF A SIMILAR TRUCK UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. I LIVE IN ZONE 1/A OF THE RECALL AS WELL, SO IF ANYONE IS LIKELY TO HAVE A PROBLEM, WE ARE IN THIS AREA.
