Had the top of the motor rebuilt twice, first the left side, then the right side. Then GM replaced the motor out of warranty. A year and a half later the rear main seal blew and the seal was all mushroomed and out of shape.
Truck has been burning oil since it was purchased new in 2020. The truck has needed 6 quarts added between every oil change. It has been to the dealer and they insist nothing is wrong. GM customer service has been no help. Motor has a ticking noise. Finally 2 weeks ago check engine lights came on and loud noises came from motor. Brought it into the dealership and they said full lifter failure and engine scoring and has been like this for awhile now. This is something I brought up to them AND GM support over the last 4 years of owning the vehicle and they always told me there was nothing wrong with it. Private extended warranty is going to cover a new engine, but is on national backorder due to all the issues with the 6.2L engine and others having issues GM won’t acknowledge.
Driving vehicle down freeway about 75mph heard noise and truck shut speeds down to about 60mph on a major freeway. Per mechanic lifter has collapsed and it has been a common issue that Chevy knows about. He said that it could have been alot worse by seizing the engine and causing harm to drive or other people around causing a major accident. There is a major safety issue to life and or death caused by this issue that has NOT been a concern and causing people to pay over $5000.00 for repairs. Chevy has known about the faulty lifters for years and doesn't seem to care about safety concerns.
Engine shut off while driving home from work on15 October 2024. Driving home while raining. Engine just stop and wouldn't start again.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the front wheels seized, and the contact was forced to pull over to the side of the road to restart the vehicle. This failure reoccurred a second time and while pulling over the front wheels seized, and the brake pad and rotors were visibly red. No warning lights were illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Check engine light came on at 100,000 and was told I need new engine from John Miles Chevrolet
Purchased not thinking there would be issues as truck was clean and well kept. Month and a half later torque converter went bad. Had it replaced under warranty, however, I have more symptoms from when it originally started. 6 speed transmission.
The rear wheels lock and most of the time its hard shifting/ or it feels like it struggling to shift to the next gear
I bought this truck with 72,000 miles on it I put about 3,000 miles on it and the engine seized. I had my mechanic inspect it and he confirmed the motor is seized. There was absolutely no warning is just stopped running and left me on the side of the road
While driving my truck the engine completely shut down. All the dash lights came on initially but then only the check engine light stayed on. My truck never would start back up after that. It was towed to GM dealership who diagnosed catastrophic engine failure.
about a month ago, began with a shutter or studder at low speeds. Became worse and a vibration on the interstate as it sounded like i was driving over rough ground. have now seen two mechanics in person and talked to another on the phone and all are saying the torque converter needs to be replaced. the check engine light has not come on which is also a concern as this is a major issue. safety concern is getting on the interstate into traffic and difficulty accelerating. experienced a lockup and swerve when accelerating up a hill which is very scary as my children were in the car. this is a 2020 silverado 1500 purchased new from dealership with 105k miles
Driving at the speed limit 65-70 miles ph my truck started to slow in speed the tire sensor came on then the truck began to smoke and the brakes locked up at a high speed, lucky for me there was no one behind me. I was able to limp to a safe spot and park the truck would not MOVE at all..After an hour I tried to move it again it would not go into drive. Had to tow it to the dealership..$$$$ later they say well we can't recreate the problem so it's drivable. I drive 2 blocks and it stops in traffic almost causing a collision. Had it towed home and for 3 moths now it has sat while I have to continue paying payments on a NON running 2020 with only 102 thousand miles on it this is CRIMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was told possible $62k to repair but no guarantee it would stay fixed!!!!!!!!!! Criminal and should not be on me I am paying still. But if something is not done I will let it get repo..I am [XXX] old this was to be my last newer vehicle I have had to borrow money again and bought an older 03 silverado that is running great. While driving down the highway, the ball joints on the front passenger side prematurely failed, causing loss of vehicle control, significant damage to steering and braking components and body damage. Diagnosis is being confirmed by an independent service center. No symptoms of premature wear or imminent failure were noted.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard an abnormal sound emanating from the rear end suspension. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that fuel leak from the fuel delivery system resulted corrosion of the left side leaf spring grummet. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
First incident was when the vehicle had under 7,000 miles. Transmission module went. Vehicle wouldn't move. A few months prior, when we pulled our camping trailer, the integrated brake didn't work and the truck brakes overheated. Took vehicle to dealer, couldn't find a problem. A few months later the truck would not move, and found to be the transmission module. After a month and they finally got the part and repaired, no problems with pulling the camper. Than last week, we pulled out on the road, and we couldn't accelerate. A little over 45,000 miles on it. Had towed to dealer, they have diagnosed Transmission Valve Body. No warning lights. Maybe the transmission was hesitating some before it went. Waiting for the part, which no clue how long it will take.
Dealership attempting to sell a vehicle with an open recall was more than prepared to let me drive and potentially sell a vehicle with a recall open causing the rear tires to randomly lock up. Made problem known to salesman and said they'd take it off the market. Now, they lowered the price by $2600 as it was previously listed at $25,571, now listed at $22,971. Listing still not down.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the brake pad sensor warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
The vehicle was being used in a normal daily driving routine. I was stopped(fortunately) at a traffic light. The light turned green and I went to proceed and began to press the gas pedal and the engine made a loud pop noise and began to barely stay running. I brought the vehicle to the shop(GM dealership) for diagnosis and repair. The motor had to be rebuilt new camshaft, lifters, etc. The vehicle is also having transmission issues, heavy vibration, hard shifts and constant fluctuations in the rpms while maintaining a set speed. The transmission issue still has not been resolved.
My vehicle only has 20k miles on it and I’m already replacing a lifter and camshaft due to the active fuel management system. At the time of taking my truck in there are three other trucks for the same issue. This is known issue at my dealership and this time I’m covered under warranty, but they told me to be prepared to repair this again and next time will be out of warranty and around 5k to repair.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the engine made ticking and knocking sounds while idling. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the year and VIN were not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
The specific issue that is being recalled is malfunctioning on my vehicle. I have taken to the dealership but they won’t help because the solution hasn’t been identified. My truck has suffered repeated failures resulting in excessive wear and tear on the transmission. I’m afraid a catastrophic failure will occur if I have to keep driving, without a solution. The dealer simply cleared the code. They should replace the part that is failing at a minimum. Even if it might happen again down the road. They will have a solution by then.
Engine light came on, service park brake light came on, truck started jumping and misfiring, code says cylinder 5 misfire.
While driving, the vehicle began experiencing hard shifting. When I attempted to accelerate to pull over, the vehicle failed to respond and instead sounded as though it was in neutral. Additionally, when I tried to bring the vehicle to a stop, it took longer than usual, as if the wheels were locked.
Wiring harness defect an on going defect required repair in General Motors products should be a recall. Dealership said a manufacturing error. Now public who buys these vehicles have to pay for General Motors defect. Cylinder cause check engine light to come on. Repairs by Kunes GMC of Beloit WI. invoice [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Brake system lights on dash came on as well as the check engine light. Park light was flashing on the dash. Safety is at risk as parking brake does not work. Took vehicle to dealer and they ran diagnostics. Codes: c0610 05, c0616 5a as per document id: 5709204. They said I need a new Brake System Control Module. Brake System Control Modules are on backorder. Brake System Control Modules have been recalled on Silverados in the past. I'm worried that this is unsafe
Transmission is sputtering when trying to shift. Mostly at low speeds it's extremely jerky like it doesn't want to go. Had Transmission fluid and filter changed, but it did not help.
The truck is only three years old with 123,000 miles and the transmission needs to be replaced. I took the truck to Chevy and they said the transmission is bad and they need to replace it. GM and Chevy will NOT cover the cost to replace the transmission or help with any cost. This truck is fairly new and it's a lot that the transmission is already bad. Chevy quoted me $7,990 for new transmission with install.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
significant loss of power due to engine failure related to DDI while driving.
This vehicle, only 4 years old, experienced lifter/engine failure during normal operation, which required unsafe driving conditions and a roadside emergency. The vehicle was towed to the service location, where a complete engine disassembly took place, and required a 3 week repair period. The truck experienced a rough idle/shudder at a stoplight, then proceeded to show a flashing check engine light (P0305), a service emergency brake warning, and a service traction control warning.
transmission make noise
Rear sliding plastic window frame cracks and allows water to seep into the cab. Hardware and metal brackets have rusted, electrical components may be at risk of shorting out. Mold and mildew can be smelled on warm days, which poses a health risk. Complete window has been replaced twice and original and replacements have all been resealed as a "repair" but has failed on all attempts. Headliner has been replaced once and is currently stained again due to another leak. No updated GM part exists to remedy the known issues.
My truck has 75K miles and the transmission has a shudder and it shifts very hard. I have been told I need a new transmission by an AAMCO shop which will cost just under $7k. This is ridiculous for a 2020 pickup.
Transmission continues to lock up while driving
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and driving over a speed bump, the contact noticed that the power steering became inoperable with the Electronic Stability control warning light illuminated and the message that the “Power Steering was Disabled” was displayed. The contact stated the vehicle became difficult to steer. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with power steering control module (PSCM) failure. The contact was informed that the PSCM needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
Rear window leaks water into the cab during rain, snow, car wash, etc. GM refuses to abide by comprehensive warranty to fix the issue, and my dealership wants to charge around $1,000 just to apply sealant. Water goes into and behind the rear seat (where my child sits) and goes to unknown area. Water can cause rust, mold, electrical problems, or any other number of issues. I noticed it around November of 2024 but I don’t know how long it has actually been occurring for. When researching this issue, appears to be relatively commonplace for my year and style of vehicle. Even the GM techs at my dealership acknowledged it is a recurring issue that may require MULTIPLE visits before getting a permanent solution (replacing the entire window).
Transmission shuttering when driving
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the sound later became an engine knock, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and was later towed back to the residence. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 75,718.
Before teuck engine collapse. Ww had concerns about truck sounded off. Misfire in engine, knocking noise. Truck shut down. Had it towed. GMC service department concluded that the 5th cylinder not firing properly. Lifters collapse. Fixed, it was costly $10, 100. Truck went back in shop next day mexhanic was busy. Waiting til after weekend to take truck back in. They had to physicallt look at why truck was vibrating. Engine light not showing issue. Neither did the code reader. Mechanic found provle to be the Torque convertor. Need to change that. Said it was a very common problem in Chevy trucks.
With only 70,000 miles on the truck it started to have a hard shudder and wheels locking up. During the wheel shudder it would shift hard as well. We took it to a shop and they said it was our Transmission control module and that the transmission had metal shavings and would fail soon. They also said doing any service to these transmissions can cause failure. We were informed that the dealership is aware these transmissions are all failing. The cost to replace is over $6,500. The dealership should have to do an official recall for this. After some research i found that the dealership has acknowledged the issue by replacing the TCM and uploading new software to put the transmission into a fail safe instead of putting in a new transmission. The issues that the failure causes has made thousands of people have to get new transmissions before the service is even due. A quick search on Google states that 461,000 vehicles were effected and that a recall has been issued, but it has not been officially issued. We need a new transmission and should not have to pay for it on a truck that is so new and serviced timely.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam shaft, rod bearings, and lifters had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Safety Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 71,773.
My 2020 Chevy truck falls under the recall out right now. I drive my family around in it and feel a bit unsafe. How long does General motors have a remedy for this recall? And what are the next steps if a remedy isn’t made in the timeframe allowed? I’ve contacted General Motors and cannot get an answer. Thanks
Engine misfiring multiple times over a period of 2 or 3 years. Took it to the dealership in Andrews Tx, could not duplicate misfire but saw over 600 misfires on a single cylinder, they said it was fuel pump failure. Replaced fuel pump. After a month misfiring started again. October of 2024 took it to dealership in San Angelo Tx, they were able to duplicate misfire, lifter failure. Replaced lifters and cam as it was beat up. One month after repair, vehicle started shuddering. Took it back to San Angelo service center, transmission issue, torque converter needs to be replaced. I refused the service as I would not spend $5,000 more after spending $10,000 to repair engine.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the rear end locked-up, and the check engine warning light immediately illuminated. The vehicle went into LIMP Mode and failed to exceed 50 MPH. The failure had occurred three times. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Brake failure. I took the Truck to the dealer and was told not to drive it. The dealer ran two checks and then said brake failure. The rep had to leave, so another rep put my car in the shop overnight. The next day, I was told in writing that they could not find any problem. The code clearly showed brake failure. Date: [XXX]. Cost: $125.69. Mileage was 53,531. On [XXX], another brake failure. I went to an auto parts dealer (O Riley) in Topeka, KS, and they found a brake failure code(I have a copy). They told me to go to the dealer. I went to the dealer with a stiff pedal, which means driving is very unsafe. The dealer said too busy with oil changes and told me to return another day. I said no breaks INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving home truck began to misfire and drop in RPM’s. Service ESC and Service Parking Brake popped up on my notification system. My Engine light was blinking and my Traction light was on. While i was turning into my street to get home, my engine shut off. The steering wheel and brakes became hard as the motor wasn't powering them. I was able to turn it on and get it into my drive way. Afterwards when trying to turn it on, it would turn on and shut off immediately. Chevy replaces a fuel pump module for a second time(recall), added a new starter and battery. After Three months they then told me I need a new engine because it has locked itself up. I purchased the vehicle with 32,000 miles and It currently has 49,000 miles. Chevrolet are not going to warranty me a new engine because i do my own oil changes (which were 2). Had this happened on the highway or in traffic, i would've been at a high risk of causing an accident considering power steering and brake system was not working properly.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine failed and shut off independently. An independent mechanic and dealer were contacted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the crankshaft had melted. The vehicle was then towed to dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the crankshaft had melted and there was a rod bearing failure. The engine was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000.
ESC error code come on with a traction control off symbol and the drive Steering Assist Reduced Drive with care. I lost my power steering out of now here when driving on roads that are not very smooth or if I turn my wheel all the way to one side. I was able to muscle the truck home safely.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, she noticed in the rearview mirror that her steel chainsaw was hanging from the vehicle and pulled over to the right side of the road. Once outside the vehicle, she noticed the tailgate opened independently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.
Component/system that failed: The transmission control module in my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has malfunctioned. The vehicle has issues with slipping between gears, rough shifting, and hesitation when accelerating. This component has already been inspected and diagnosed by a certified Chevrolet dealership, and the part is currently on backorder. The vehicle is available for further inspection upon request. Safety risk: This issue poses a serious safety risk to myself and others. The gear slipping and delayed response when driving—especially when merging onto highways or changing lanes—creates unpredictable behavior that can lead to an accident. The truck sometimes fails to engage gears properly, which makes it dangerous in traffic situations. Diagnosis confirmation: Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a Chevy dealership service advisor (Jose Diaz), who provided a formal quote and diagnosis for the replacement of the transmission control module. Inspection by others: The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives, but Chevrolet Customer Assistance is currently reviewing the case, and I was advised to submit this documentation. Warning lamps or symptoms: There were no warning lamps initially, Symptoms include slipping gears, hesitation when pressing the gas pedal, jerky shifting, and difficulty accelerating smoothly. These symptoms have progressively worsened over time. Additional context: I have learned that many 2020 Chevrolet Silverado trucks have been recalled for the exact same issue, but my VIN is currently not included. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and that my vehicle should be considered for inclusion in the recall or further investigation.
