NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
I started my truck and was driving it started to shake and felt forced. Making a sound vibration . I received a message on dashboard " Reduce acceleration drive with care" it felt like I was going to loose power so I turned into the parking lot and had it towed to chevrolet dealership for service. The safety was good in the sense that I parked the vehicle into a parking lot to prevent accidents in the freeway. The dealership claims it's my engine needs replacement.
on febuary,3,2026 i was traveling down a local highway at 50 mph when i felt a sudden power loss and heard a squeaking noise figuring something was wrong i pulled over at the next safest spot, while pulling into the spot the squeaking noise developed into a "rod knock" the sound a loud metal clattering noise that was consistent with the rpms. i immediately shut the vehicle off and called a local towing service who promptly dropped it at my local chevy dealership the night of febuary,3,2026. further contact was made with dealership the day of febuary,4,2026 regarding the issue , prior to this issue the truck had been in for the recall regarding the L87 6.2 liter engine and it had passed the inspection and was given the oil change and the new oil cap and owners manual.
February 3, 2026 my 2022 Silverado ZR2 with 37,000 miles shut off on me while driving at a speed of 45 mph, i was able to pull over safely, I mentioned this to the dealership and they were unable to figure out why. 2 weeks later, my truck began to start making a loud knocking noise from the engine, I took it to the dealership and they stated that it was a failed engine and they would need to start a claim and most likely need a new engine. I have been waiting for a new engine now without a ship date on when the engine will arrive to the dealership to begin repairing my truck. They did do the recall test, change the oil type and oil cap. However, the engine still failed and I have been left without my truck until who knows when. I’ve started a claim myself with General Motors to get better updates, but they don’t have one either at this time.
As I was speeding from the fast lane to get across to the right lane off ramp when my vehicle suddenly shot off. I knew I couldn’t stop on the off ramp or on the bridge I was on. Luckily I had a green light at the top of the off ramp and coasted to an empty parking lot. Once I came to a complete stop I attempted to restart my truck but no luck. The truck would not even crank over. I tried multiple times and the dash would only go dark for a few seconds and I would try again to start and had no luck. Called AAA and they thought it was a battery so they put a jumper and same thing, no crank. Then they tried jumping it with jumper cables and still no crank at all. I had just installed a new battery no more than 4 months ago and my headlights, interior lights all are working fine, no dimming or anything like that. I just had an inspection on the engine last time the truck was at the dealer and they said everything was fine and they put a new oil cap and thicker oil. I think this is related to the safety recall Chevy just performed. This is a huge safety risk, I’m lucky I was able to pull off the freeway when this occurred. It’s not normal for a vehicle to just shutoff on you at freeway speeds.
Truck went into limp mode. Would not shift. Stayed in one gear and would not back up. The truck basically downshifted from 8th to 2nd gear, causing me to lock up the brakes and almost lose control. Several warning lights on the dash. It's been at a transmission shop for over 3 weeks. They are having issues being able to get parts from GM. They are having problems fixing it. The blind spot lights will turn on for no reason. The lights opposite of the vehicle comes on. I've almost wrecked multiple times.
While driving my 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST, the vehicle has lost power on two to three separate occasions. During these incidents, the truck experienced a sudden loss of engine power and electrical functionality while in motion. The vehicle either significantly reduced power or shut down unexpectedly, creating an immediate safety hazard. The failure appears to involve the electrical system and/or powertrain, as dashboard functions and vehicle response were affected at the same time as the loss of propulsion. In at least one incident, this occurred at driving speed, placing me and other motorists at risk of a collision due to the sudden loss of acceleration and reduced ability to maneuver safely. No prior warning lamps or messages consistently appeared before the failure. The incidents occurred without warning. The problem is intermittent and has happened more than once, increasing concern that the defect may worsen or result in a crash. This issue represents a serious safety risk because loss of power while driving can lead to loss of control, rear-end collisions, or inability to safely move out of traffic. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
A recurring malfunction occurs with the infotainment/radio and rear backup camera display. The rear backup camera view remains stuck ON while driving forward in DRIVE at speeds over 20 mph, including highway speeds. The system also cycles between screens (including switching to the camera view), and the infotainment freezes and becomes unresponsive (loss of screen/control). Audio playback and hands-free calls become staticky/distorted. These events create a serious driver distraction and safety risk while driving. This has occurred multiple times, including during long-distance driving, and has been significant enough that I have had to pull over to the side of the road multiple times. In multiple incidents, the system did not recover until I pulled a fuse to reset/shut down the system so I could continue driving safely. The unit remains powered ON after the vehicle is turned OFF and exited. There is also a history of battery drain/no-start events requiring jump starts. No warning lights or warning messages are displayed before or during the failure; the system becomes unresponsive and behaves unpredictably. The problem is intermittent and has occurred multiple times over the life of the vehicle, including after a head unit replacement. Dealers have documented the concern on repair orders; during the most recent visit the dealer noted no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored.
transmission is not acting up just light for service transmission now will stop shifting soon
The tailgate on the truck popped open without being triggered to. This continued to happen like every 5-10 seconds. It drained the battery and was a hazard as I drive down the road.
My 2022 Silverado Pickup with 6.2 engine simply died as I was heading down the highway at 65mph. It was dark outside and I barely got it pulled over to side of road safely. Had to have it towed to Chevy dealer. They weren’t sure what problem was— starter and battery indicated ok. However we had them install new ones just in case. We’ve seen on our searches of the internet that this is not a new problem. Just today it died again on me as I was driving in town, but did start again. I travel quite a bit and am worried it will die on me again in this crazy cold weather! Chevy needs to acknowledge this issue with the 6.2 motor! I’ve already spent almost $1500 on this issue and don’t think it’s fixed,
One day my truck drove perfect to, the next day while driving it starting losing power drastically on the highway and shuts off that i had to dead steer it to the shoulder.”engine power reduced/grinding/knocking sound came on. I brought it to my mechanic and he says change the engine he is seeing a common thing with these 2.7 liter from this truck model, i paid 6,500 to change it and it worked on the second hand motor that was put in. 4k miles later while driving from GA, i heard the same noises and the same message on the dash and the truck shuts off again in the lane and i had to steer it off to the shoulder. I towed it this time to tropical Chevrolet and paid diagnostic fee for them to look and tell me i need another engine that will run me over fourteen thousand dollars with parts and labor. I told them hey i just had this motor changed 4k miles ago can you figure out whats going on this is unsafe, best they could offer me is trade in the vehicle, no discount no recall no nothing. So i refused and towed it back to the mechanic who swapped it, he said i have warranty and he changed it to another motor and charged me 1,000 because the company he got the engine from said the truck overheated so they wont honor my warranty and he had to pay for it out of pocket…. Yeah! Any way i went to pick up the truck with now the 3rd motor in it and on the highway 5 minutes and 2.8 miles later(i have video proof of this) THE SAME THING HAPPENED! On the turnpike the message came up and the speed dropped no power, it didn't shut off this time but i pulled over safely, still no overheating, i made some videos and sent it to the guys at tropical Chevrolet and didn't even get a reply, i called the mechanic and he tells me to drive it back to him, i did, they did some test and cleared the codes, i drove to auto-nation chevrolet but talking with them led no where, i left, while at the gas pump i turned off the truck and it won’t turn back on now, so it’s towed back to the mechanic
January 23, 2026, Truck wouldn't start, would crank but not turn over. We lost power steering. We're stranded and had it towed to chevy dealership. System code reported the fuel pump control module had failed. For some reason, GM did not include Chevy Silverado in their list of vehicles in the 2025 fpcm recall. We're lucky we weren't on the freeway when this part failed. We would have been going 60mph with loss of power steering. GM needs to do better. Was repaired under warranty at Sunset Chevrolet 901 Traffic Ave, Sumner WA.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while shifting into park(P), the vehicle indicated that it was not in park(P). The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and then the vehicle began to work as intended. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the automatic shift control and gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
they did the pico test they said the engine was good they upgraded the oil months after that 3 time back to the dealer do to loss of Propulsion its in a GM dealer SHOP waiting for the new long block as of 02-16-2026
My vehicle lost reverse. It can not reverse what so ever. I was in traffic when it happened thankfully someone where there willing to help. I was told I needed a valve body, after spending 3k plus I was then told the transmission has to be replaced. And its a common thing with these vehicle losing your ability to reverse while driving is very very dangerous.
My wife and I were driving at highway speed around 70mph and truck shut off. There were no dash indicators or warning lights that signaled any engine/diagnostic issues prior to engine shutting off. Lost all power but still had brakes and steering. Coasted to safe stopping point and truck would not turn over or restart. The truck had to be towed to dealer for repair. The assessment was the engine had seized while driving and would be replaced under the GM 6.2L engine recall.
On October 6th I took my truck in for the 6.2L recall and it failed. GM replaced the engine as. On Jan 15th 10 days after my first oil change just before 5000 miles the engine began to knock. After being towed 100 miles to the original dealer the replacement engine has blown and now I am waiting for another replacement.
Vehicle has experienced repeated internal engine failures related to the exhaust valve lash adjusters and valvetrain. The engine developed abnormal valvetrain noise, misfires under load, and loss of power. The check engine light would only flash during hard acceleration or when passing another vehicle (wide-open throttle), then turn off after approximately 10–15 seconds and never remain illuminated. Because the warning light would not stay on, the vehicle continued to be operated without clear indication of an active or worsening engine failure. Dealer inspection confirmed exhaust valve lash adjuster failure, which led to camshaft and valvetrain damage. This failure has occurred more than once, including after prior dealer repairs. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle was driven at highway speeds and during passing maneuvers while experiencing internal engine damage and misfires, without persistent warning to the driver. Sudden power loss, stalling, or catastrophic engine failure during acceleration or passing presents a risk of crash or injury. This appears to be a systemic engine defect rather than normal wear, as the failure recurred and was not reliably detected by the vehicle’s monitoring system.
My truck has the 6.2l engine that is in recall. I received my letter and took it in for inspection and oil change as recommended (Dec 15, 2025). Less than a month later (Jan 26, 2026) my engine started making loud noises. Got it to the dealership. The claim found metal in oil, spun rod bearings. They did replace engine under recall at no charge but then a week later my check engine light came on. Bad battery control module. not sure if this was due to engine swap, etc.
The engine started knocking. The Dealer confirmed the Thrust Bearing was the culprit. Engine replacement recommended. 41k. 6.2
onstar telematics module went out and took away my way to call in a car problems and if stolen wont be able to find and the forward Collision don't work my high beam turn on and off by themselves and don't have there wifi or severs without it or emergency button
Vehicle has a 10-speed electronic controlled transmission that has been identified having issues in other models. The vehicle is experiencing jerking, hard shifting, and shifting delays. I want my model of vehicle to be included in the recall. Recently had the engine replaced due to another recall.
Tailgate opens automatically on its own while parked and while driving. This also causes the battery to drain down to being dead as it continues to operate the actuator I had to unplug the electronic tailgate switch to stop the battery from graining. Besides the battery draining, the tailgate opened when I had a load in the bed of the pick up truck as I drove causing a possible unsafe load and spillage onto the road way. Dealership notified. Appt scheduled for Jan7 2026. No warning lamps came on.
My truck has the 6.2l engine, prior to me buying it in September 2025 with 27,000 miles it had its engine replaced due to the recall/engine failure, then after 6,000 miles on 12-30-25 the 2nd engine it has had failed and had to be replaced. This truck that only has 34,000 miles is now on its 3rd motor and leaves me worried to really travel with it due to wondering if I am going to be stranded again.
Vehicle lost power while driving on highway 2days in a row dealer Syed they could not find any problems
2022 ZR2 Silverado with the L87 6.2L. Have been complaining of shuttering starting at 22,500 miles and a few times after that. Vehicle passed PICO recall test and engine failed within 2,000 miles with zero warning. I was merging into traffic accelerating.
Going down highway in winter conditions and vehicle had a shudder and was shifting funny and blew up total loss of power..this happend a week after getting recall done and engine oil changed..that was a very dangerous position to put me and my passenger in. Toal failure of bottom end..
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The stated that while the vehicle was parked, the tailgate opened independently, and the tailgate was manually closed. The contact stated that the next time after stepping out the vehicle, the tailgate opened independently. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started the tailgate was down, and the hazard light flashed. Most recently, the vehicle failed to start. The contact realized that the battery had failed to function as intended. The contact associated that the failure was a possible short circuit from the tailgate. The contact disconnected the battery. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the tailgate switch had failed and caused the battery to drain. The vehicle remained at the dealer pending the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
Was taking an exit car felt like lose control and got hit with the sign pole on the exit. I have been complaining for the safety reasons and the location and other issues in car to onstar and Chevy for months. Went to Freeport Chevy dealer and changed oil, when I bought the car pre-approved but the when I went for the service they said no oil was changed since the car was new. And I have been paying for all the warranty and extended service but they said all oil change and others will cost approx $3200. They changed the oil but I have been seeing on the Chevy app filter was never changed and the car didn’t feel same after the service.
The drivers side window regulator cable completely rusted through and broke. There should be a recall as there is a ton of videos on YouTube on how to fix this. Every single one of us the bottom cable completely rusted through and broke on the regulator. First picture is old rusted broke one, 2nd is the new gm part, You can see it was sitting in water, my truck is less than 3 years old. Oh it’s always the driver side
4x4 automatically engages and disengages after the 6.2 engine recall replacement. Dealerships has no solution to the matter. This makes the truck stop operating at normal 2wd speed and limits the turning radius of the truck since it changes to 4wd
On 09/25/25 at 59,502 miles recall work was completed per NHTSA Recall No. 25V-274, L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. Dealer paperwork shows that my truck passed the PicoScope inspection and was given the higher viscosity 0W-40 oil. On 12/10/25 at 63,904 miles, with the oil that was changed during the inspection; while traveling on highway NM-52 towing my travel trailer, I experienced a sudden loss of propulsion resulting in my truck stopping in the middle of the roadway. No prior indications of any issues were noted, no check engine lights, no loss of oil pressure, when loss of propulsion occurred. While in the middle of the road I attempted to restart the truck with no start-up. Using gravity, the truck was slowly moved off of the highway backwards. Upon opening the engine hood, a strong odor of burnt engine oil was present. No oil was noted coming out from the engine. When removing the engine oil dip stick it was noted to be steaming and extremely hot to the touch. Due to the location the vehicle it took 2 days to be taken to the dealer. No local vendors were able to pick up the truck to take to the dealer resulting in it having to be personally trailered to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to Bravo Chevrolet and Cadillac in Las Cruces NM. The dealer evaluation of the truck determine that the engine had seized and was replaced under the extended warranty per the same listed recall. This engine failed after passing the required inspections and while utilizing the newly recommended engine oil. This failure could have resulted in an accident due to the nature of the failure, after being led to believe that there were no longer any issues or concerns after passing inspection. Why would there be a failure at that time if the engine passed inspection per the recall? Only cause would be that the remedy action is not properly addressing or correcting the root cause of the failures in these L87 engines.
My 2022 Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L V8 engine has had continuous problems since purchase. The original engine was replaced under warranty at approx. 24k miles and has now had the lifters and camshaft replaced, as well as the knock sensors. All of this had to be negotiated with GM and my poor service manager, despite numerous recalls and class action lawsuits with GM regarding these known issues. I would like to trade this truck off for something safe and reliable, however the used value is tanking as quickly as their new vehicles. Dealerships are offering over $11k off of new 2026 trucks, damaging the resale value of all 2021-2025 units. At this point I just want GM to purchase the vehicle back and let me find something safe for my family.
My check engine light came on and the diagnostic code was p1098. I noticed there was a special warranty for my make and model and engine but for some reason mine does not have this special warranty. I have researched and found out this is a common problem with these trucks. I think there should be a recall for this as it poses safety problems and concerns when it enters limp mode
See attached document for complaint
The Telematics module on my car stopped working. It caused all of my warning tones to go out and are not audible. Furthermore the OnStar system is not working. I have read a lot of post and it seems like the module is a high fail item and if it fails after the manufactures warranty then we are left with a pretty hefty bill just to get one of the safety features to work. GM needs to fix this at their expense given the amount of modules that have failed in the past few years on newer vehicles.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle vibrated and failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the vehicle failed to exceed 40 MPH. The contact was able to pull over into a rest area. The power tailgate and power windows failed to function as intended, and the vehicle failed to restart. The message low battery power was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact attempted to jumpstart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where metal shavings were found in the oil pan and oil filter, which caused the engine to fail. The contact was informed that there was a hole in the radiator. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and paid for the engine replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that days after retrieving the vehicle, the radio became inoperable. The contact stated that while the turn signal was activated, there was no sound, and the light on the OnStar button failed to illuminate as intended, and the Wi-Fi intermittently failed to operate as intended. Most recently, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the telematic module had failed. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH and attempting to make a left turn while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle unexpectedly lost motive power. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact attempted to activate the hazard lights however, the hazard lights were inoperable. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while his wife was driving the vehicle. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated during the failure. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000.
The engine started knocking and squeaking. Mileage is 42,142
The problem that happened on my truck was the telecommunication module went out at 45k miles. That controls several features on my truck such as compass, navigation, remote start from cell phone, clock and several others. The biggest problem is that a check engine light pops up and you cant use your key fob to remote start your truck since the check engine light is on. I took it to the GM dealer to get fixed and they had to replace the module. According to my service advisor this is a common problem and I am looking for a recall or more information into why it failed.
Since brand new engine has had oil consumption issues. Countless times I have been told it is ok and there is no problems with it. I took it to a different dealer and I am now being told I need to replace pistons and rings.
I took my truck in for the recall on the L87 6.2 engine PCOED test and they said it passed. They changed to the 0-40 oil. I noticed a significant fuel mileage drop from mid 20 to low 14 on long highway drives. I had an oil change done and drove 500 miles the next day and there was just a trace of oil on the dipstick. I called my chevy dealership and they said that is normal for oil consumption. I topped off the oil before heading back home and used 3/4 of a quart. I am watching my oil consumption and looking to do an oil consumption test done by the dealership. They did not recommend this test I researched it. I am concerned my engine will blow up.
Recently hit a deer running between 75-80 mph. Air bags fired but failed to deploy.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed highway speeds, the transmission unintendedly shifted in and out of gear. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure had not been diagnosed, but the contact was informed that the transmission failure was a well-known failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 47,120. The VIN was unavailable.
Engine light is on with DTC P1098 due to a faulty engine coolant control valve requiring replacement. Vehicle displays warning message “service transmission, unable to shift soon” due to faulty component in electronic shifter requiring replacement.
BACK ROAD - 25-30 MPH, TRUCK "SLOWED" WENT TO ACCELERATE WITH NO RESPONSE, TRUCK WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND "PRESS START". SLOWED AND STOPPED NEAR SIDE OF ROAD. WOULD NOT RESTART. ENGINE SEIZED. TWO HOURS PLUS LATER, ABLE TO GET TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL TO TOW TO STEPSONS HOME. SERVICE CONTACTED AND TOW TRUCK DRIVER (ALSO UNKNOWN TO HOW TO GET TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL TO GET ONTO FLATBED) TOWED THE TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP TO AWAIT INSPECTION AND REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE. BATTERY DISCONNECTED CURRENTLY. HOWEVER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED AFTER EPISODE.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after driving home and parking the vehicle in the driveway, the contact later discovered that the rear tailgate had erroneously opened. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the exterior touchpad switch assembly on the rear tailgate was damaged due to water intrusion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES); only the 2500 and 3500 models were included. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to turn on the high beam, the Intell Beam high beam headlight failed to illuminate as intended. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer, who confirmed that the feature was not included in the software. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that after researching, the contact learned that vehicles of the same year, make, and model might have the system included in the software. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the feature was not meant to come with the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
Torque converter needs to be replaced at about 35000 miles. Power steering rack needs replacing at 36000 miles. Both of which would be considered major repairs for a vehicle with such low mileage.
Engine seized up at 70 mph on highway. Loss of all power and was lucky to coast off road in heavy traffic. Vehicle had just passed safety recall inspection two weeks earlier. Replacement engine installed at dealership, but it failed and second replacement engine currently being installed.
