TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF THE ENGINE FAN FAILED TO TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THERE WAS A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE KEY WOULD NOT ALWAYS TURN THE VEHICLE ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE CONTACT REFUSED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 118,500.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BROKEN, TWO AT BACK LEFT, DRIVER'S SIDE CLOSEST TO FIREWALL. CAUSING AUDIBLE EXHAUST LEAK. *TR
MY 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN Z71 SWITCHES RANDOMLY AND WITHOUT SPECIFIC CAUSE INTO REDUCED ENGINE POWER WHICH NEARLY GO ME KILLED WHEN MERGING INTO A HIGH-SPEED INTERSTATE PULLING A TRAILER. THE ONLY WAY TO "FIX" IT (MAKE THE ENGINE RUN NORMAL AGAIN) IS TO PULL TO THE SIDE IF THE HIGHWAY (DANGEROUS!) AND SHUT THE TRUCK OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES. THIS HAPPEN RANDOMLY BUT AT LEAST THREE TIMES A DAY. I KNOW OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND GM SAYS I HAVE TO BRING IT TO THEN WHEN THIS IS OCCURRING BUT I CAN'T DO THAT WHEN THE TRUCK IS BARELY LIMPING ALONG! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON GM CHAT SITES ACROSS THE INTERNET. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT HEAD BROKE OFF. 1ST BOLT INITIALLY THEN SECOND BOLT NEXT TO IT BROKE AS WELL. NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE TO MOTOR OR AFTERMARKET PARTS ADDED THAT WOULD AFFECT THIS PART AND CREATE FAILURE. EXHAUST GAS ENTERS THE UNDERHOOD AREA . THE EXHAUST MAKES A BLACK PLUME UP SIDE OF MOTOR. CONCERNED THAT THE LEAK COULD WORSEN LEADING TO EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ESCAPING HOT EXHAUST GAS COULD LEAD TO FIRE. IN ADDITION, I WOULD THINK THE EPA WOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT EFFECTS ON VEHICLE EMISSIONS. THE LEAKING EXHAUST GAS IS NOT PASSED THROUGH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE LEAKING GAS IS ALSO NOT SAMPLED BY THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND COULD EFFECT THE SENSORS INPUT TO THE VEHICLE COMPUTER. I SEE BY DOING SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCHES ON THIS TOPIC THAT THE BOLT FAILURE AND LEAKING EXHAUST MANIFOLD PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE BROKEN BOLTS YET. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOOKED DOWN AND THE SPEEDOMETER SAID 100! CARS WERE PASSING ME AND I KNEW THERE WAS NO WAY I WAS DRIVING 100. ONCE I GOT TO MY DESTINATION, SITTING STILL THE SPEEDOMETER WAS AT EITHER 50 OR 60. WHEN IN MOTION IT USUALLY READS ABOUT 105-115 WHEN GOING BETWEEN 60-70 MPH. MY 2005 K1500 SUBURBAN SUSTAINED A CRACKED HEAD WITH 73,000 ON THE ENGINE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT MY DEALERSHIP HAS NO INFORMATION THAT A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM EXISTS. THE REPAIR COST OVER $2,000. THIS IS NOT A NORMAL OCCURRENCE OR EXPECTED VEHICLE WEAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE RPM'S DECREASED TO 1,000. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WOULD CLUNK FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE REMAINS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,638.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH ON A DRY HIGHWAY IN A PASSING SITUATION, A LIGHT STATING "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" ILLUMINATED IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LOST A MAJORITY OF THE ENGINE POWER, AND THE TACHOMETER WOULD NOT PASS 1200 RPMS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE.
THIS IS A PRE-CAUTIONARY COMPLAINT AS A RESULT OF MY SHOCK REGARDING GM'S 8.1L ENGINE IN THE SUBURBANS. ALSO WOULD APPLY TO SILVERADO HD AS WELL. THE VEHICLE IS USING EXCESSIVE OIL WHICH TO MY SURPRISE GM SAYS IS NORMAL. OIL USAGE IS 1.25 QTS PER 2000 MILES AND GM INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD USE AS MUCH AS 1QT PER 1000 MILES (ASSUMING 10 MILES TO THE GALLON). THE CONCERN IS REGARDING EMISSIONS DURABILITY AND INDIRECT FAILURES AS A RESULT OF THIS OIL LOADING INTO THE EXHAUST AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER. GM WOULD NOT PROVIDE DETAILS TO ME BUT, INDUSTRY NORMS ARE ASSUMING WORST CASE 1/2 OF THIS LEVEL OF EXPECTED OIL USAGE. GM WAS UNCONCERNED AND HAS A BULLETIN FOR THEIR DEALERS STATING THIS. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BOTH FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT FOR POTENTIAL ENGINE FAILURE AND FOR EMISSIONS DURABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE. *JB
