The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering assist. The contact stated that the failure was only experienced whenever the vehicle was slowed to approximately 5 MPH. During the failure, the steering wheel locked up. The contact stated that after shifting into REVERSE the vehicle would return to normal operation. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 250,000.
Customer has a 2007 Suburban, the steering angle sensor is faulty causing diagnostic trouble code C0455 and traction control inoperative , tested sensor directly to verify fault, the part is no longer available from GM nor aftermarket, it is my professional opinion that there should be a viable part number available from the vehicle manufacturer as this is causing a safety hazard. I HAVE THIS VEHICLE FOR ONLY A YEAR I WENT TO GET MY BRAKES DONE TO BE TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT IT NEEDS WORK ON THE SUSPENSION FROM RUST ALMOST MY WHOLE ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM AND A AUTO SHOP TOLD MY FINANCE COMPANY THAT THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS BUT CLEARLY THERE IS
I STARTED MY CAR AND THE BRAKES WERE GONE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP. I TURNED IT OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN, THEN THE BRAKES WOULD LOCK UP AND THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. I WAITED A WHILE AND TRIED A THIRD TIME, IT MADE A POWER STEERING MACHINE NOISE AND WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE COULD NOT USE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO FIX IT. I PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR A NEW POWER STEERING PUMP, BECAUSE I WILL NOT DRIVE IT IF THERE IS EVEN A CHANCE OF THAT HAPPENING AGAIN. IT'S TOO MUCH OF A LIABILITY.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THIS MORNING AND SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THANK GOD SHE WAS DRIVING IN SLOW SPEED AND COULD STOP THE VEHICLE AND AVOIDED A CRASH. IT HAPPENED RIGHT BEFORE SHE HAD TO TURN LEFT BUT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND SHE WENT STRAIGHT. SHE WAS SCARED A LOT AND WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY. YESTERDAY WE HAVE SERVICED THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS SOME RECALL AND THEY UPDATED THE ECU ON THE VEHICLE. *JB
LOOSE STEERING CAUSED BY OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL TO ADDRESS A PERMEATE REMEDY. WHILE THE FACTORY WARRANTY PAID FOR THE FIRST TWO REPLACEMENTS, AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PAID FOR ALL BUT THE $50 DEDUCTIBLE ON THE THIS THIRD REPLACEMENT THIS WAS BY ALL ACCOUNTS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 CHEVROLET SUBURBANS. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SPONTANEOUSLY FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS FAILURE COULD CAUSE A CRASH. THE DEALER INSTALLED A RUBBER BOOT ON THE STEERING COLUMN, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND PROVIDE A SUFFICIENT REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
