NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Dealer has advised that replacement of airbag will result in damage to interior parts and trim and that replacement parts are not available and that the dealer will not be responsible for replacement and repair of damage. I have refused the warranty replacement until a dealer can be located that will not damage car interior
I have a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. It is one of the thousands of which the plastic dash has cracked into pieces. My concern is that the loose plastic will hurt someone if the airbag is deployed. GM Should have never used such flimsy plastic on the dashes of so many vehicles.
My dashboard has cracked into pieces, material used for dashboard was no good.
my dash is cracked and rattles really bad when driving and sounds like pieces breaking, when i hit bumps in road you can see the dash move and bounce and poses a safety risk if in an accident and airbags go off the pressure can further break dash and send pieces of sharp plastic in the faces of passengers, there is thousands of complaints online and social media about the dashes of chevy and gmc trucks and suvs cracking and in several cases totally breaking apart into pieces due to the faulty cheap materials used to make these dashes. this is a potetial serious and lethal defect if in an a accident and these pieces of plastic go flying into people like shrapnel.
The contact owned a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags). The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, the Air Bag warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that while parked at a rest stop for approximately five minutes, the vehicle was turned on, and the driver's curtain air bag and the passenger side air bags were deployed inadvertently. The contact sustained lower head and scalp injuries and was knocked unconscious. Medical attention was not needed. No police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an unknown third party by the insurance company where it was deemed totalled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,251.
One day I was driving normal and my engine light and two other lights came on. It dropped my speed under 30mph and I couldn't pass the gas. It said reduced engine power, service stabilitrak and service traction. I immediately took it to auto zone then placed it in the shop at the dealership. They had my truck for almost 2 months and finally said they fixed it. It ran ok for a month or so. I was so scared to drive because it does it randomly. Boom it happen again now im frustrated because what is the problem. Called shop they said bring it back they will have a new person look at it. They had it for a month again. Paid more money. Then boom a month later the same thing. So at this point im calling no one is answering they ignored me so I called the customer service on the truck to complain. I had to get rentals and everything with the same problem it is over a year later. No answer and nobody called back nothing. I parked my truck for months and yesterday June 24th the lights came on again. I have heard alot of my friends and family say they have a chevy vehicle and they did/do the same thing.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that upon start of the vehicle, an abnormal ticking sound was coming from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the contact discovered that the oil pressure was low. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the uptake tube O-ring needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.
Transmission, vehicle stops functioning without notice on the road while driving acceleration stops. The problem was confirmed to be a transmission failure by chevrolet. The inspection was done by chevrolet to confirm the transmission has failed. The vehicle started to jump when sitting still and the drive train for 2wheel/4whell did stop working it only allowed the vehicle to be moved in 2whell drive. This happened after the vehicle went over 100k miles and when I took it to chevrolet they said nothing was wrong with it, they said "it's an old car". When the car is driven over 35/40mph the vehicle now shakes along with it stopping to function while driving. Even with chevrolet verifying that the transmission is bad(which is the recall on Tahoe models from the same year of production) they refuse to acknowledge it is all models unless it's on a specific list of vin numbers. They refuse to replace the transmission recall at no cost according to the current recall that was done already for this year make and model. I've had all engine tune up maintenance requirements done and have not missed any vehicle scheduled maintenance this vehicle year make and model is on the recall list and I've attached the copy of it to show proof of the record. The record was provided by chevrolet, along with the record of NHTSA recalls to show this is the same year make and model but the vin isn't included, as well as the recalls they listed to show that zero apply to this vehicle when this is clearly the same exact symptoms listed on the recall but this vin isn't listed when it should be if the same exact symptoms are failing on the vehicle with maintenance kept up.
Cracked dashboard
My dashboard is completely cracked, and the driver side handle on the inside broke off
Dash is cracking
Cracked dashboard
Dash board Cracking
The drivers side door handle has broken on my Tahoe. In the event of having to urgently egress from my vehicle it would be very difficult to do so because of the handle. Now before you think I'm just a disgruntled owner you should look at the rate of occurrence. I've checked online nationally and locally with used auto part sellers and there are none to be found. If a Tahoe comes in that actually does have one intact every auto yard has a waiting list of buyers and the part is immediately gone. Shouldn't the high rate of failure of trigger at least questions from the NHTSA. I did not mention the passenger door but since it is of the same construction it would fail too if under the same use I feel. My claim is easy enough to substantiate, place a call to any used car part dealer of your choice and search for the driver's side door interior. If you do find one available, call that dealer and you'll find that it's already gone. Then ask the person on the phone about how many people they get calling for that same part. I've been searching for over a year for this one part. This complaint isn't made because I'm angry, I've simply just finally paid attention to the fact that this is a high failure part and should be investigated.
Have replaced all brakes, rotors, calipers, brake booster, master cylinder, and checked for leaks. Still have no pressure when applying brakes.
Vehicle randomly throws Stabilitrak, Traction control and ABS codes. Engine derates to limp mode. Transmission goes to full line pressure shifts. A cycle of the ignition system will reset the system a majority of the time. There is no "recall" but the general consensus in the mechanical world is two things cause this issue. Throttle body is bad and/or the steering position sensor fails causing the stabilitrak system to be disabled (which in a 2013 Tahoe, stabilitrak cannot be turned off) I have replaced the throttle body with an OEM part and the problem still occurs with our vehicle. It is a big enough of a parts failure/equipment failure that most of my mechanic buddies I've talked to knew exactly what I was talking about and said I replaced these two parts and the problem was solved. May not be enough for a recall but a TSB really should be issued because I've found a lot of information online that a lot of people are having this same issue. Between this website's complaint section and other Chevy/GM forums, I'm estimating 5000-10000 people have had similar issues with the stabilitrak being disabled somehow while driving. Manufacturers need to be held accountable for parts failures like this, as when recalls do finally happen, it is next to impossible to get the vehicle in and repaired in a timely matter (Takata air bag inflator issue is a great example, our local dealer cannot give me an estimated date they can get the vehicle in for repairs because its a mass parts recall and the replacement parts are unavailable) Incident has happened over a dozen times in the past 6 months but the additional details will not let me select multiple dates
Received recall information and have tried to have the vehicle fixed. All the Tampa dealerships in the area do not help. They hang up don't keep appointments and don't return phone calls.
Have a cracked dashboard on the driver side. Started to investigate and noticed panel under steering wheel is broke in multiple places making it not stay secured.
Takata Recall. The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the airbags service light remained illuminated while driving. The contact stated she received notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags) or 21V053000 (Air Bags) at the time the airbag warning light started to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be serviced under the airbag recall however, the airbag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle failure cause was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was advised of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to another dealer for diagnosis. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21V053000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called the local dealer who stated the parts were not available and an appointment may be scheduled in 2022. Additionally, the contact was informed that if the dashboard cracked during the recall repair, the vehicle owner was responsible to repair or replace the dashboard. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
We contacted The recommended dealership and they refused to do the repair unless we as the owners accepted responsibility for the broken dash. This issue is also a know defect and GM is refusing to complete the repair. Due to GM defective parts the air safety bag cannot be replaced and I will be required to pay GM and additional $1500 to $2000 dollars to make the car safe to continue to drive. This type of safety defect should be repaired by GM including any item that is damaged due to the repair or defect that keeps the car from being repaired as this becomes nothing more than a way for GM to escape their responsibility for completing this safety defect If the NTSB Allows this then the government then becomes responsible for the loss of life and is just as big a culprit as General Motors..
Dashboard has two large cracks, one by the steering column and the other one is on the passenger air bag area. Dealer estimated the repair at $1800 which is an unfair amount. The whole dashboard needs to be replaced do to rattling and squeaking noise from the cheap plastic they used.
Without warning on several occasions the the gps/radio screen, door locks, lights, gauges, etc start cycling and going crazy and power to the vehicle goes on and off. While the electrical storm is happening I can press the gas pedal which only causes the car to sputter and lurch forward. It has occurred suddenly while pulling into traffic or while traveling on the highway at normal speeds. I have contacted GM and was told there are no recalls open. After researching on my own there are several forums with countless complaints of the same nature. To state the obvious...this is dangerous and the fact that GM is aware and continues to ignore the problem is highly unethical and unsettling.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer and the manufacturer were made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
DASHBOARD IS CRACKING ON DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shut-off without warning. Over time, the contact became unable to restart the vehicle after multiple attempts. On the most recent failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer where they informed her that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer and was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION IN MARCH 2021 OF A GM RECALL N212328800. I PROMPTLY CONTACTED MY GM DEALER. MY GM DEALER ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT PART & WE DROPPED OFF THE CAR. AN HOUR LATER, WE WERE TOLD THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETE & WE ARRIVED TO PICK UP THE CAR. WHEN SIGNING THE PAPERWORK, WE NOTICED A NOTE INDICATING THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED ON ARRIVAL. WE IMMEDIATELY WENT OUT TO THE CAR AND FOUND 2 CRACKS IN THE DASHBOARD. THE DASHBOARD WAS NOT CRACKED ON ARRIVAL. I HAD JUST WIPED OFF THE DASH THAT MORNING PRIOR TO BRINGING THE CAR TO THE DEALER. WE TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO SAID THEY TOOK PICTURES AND HAD VIDEO. WE ASKED TO SEE SAID PICTURES AND VIDEO & ONCE THEY WENT LOOKING FOR THEM, THEY TOLD US THEY DID NOT SAVE FOR SOME REASON. WE PUSHED THE ISSUE FURTHER WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER. THEY REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CRACKED DASH THAT OCCURRED DURING THE AIRBAG REPAIR. THEY REFUSED TO FIX MY DASHBOARD. THEY DID NOT TELL US AT ANY POINT PRIOR TO THE REPAIR THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN. I AM NOT SURE WHAT TYPE OF HAZARD THIS MAY BE TO US IN THE FUTURE BUT THE RESALE VALUE JUST TOOK A HIT.I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR SIMILAR TYPES OF DAMAGE FROM THIS TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. I AM FOLLOWING PROTOCOL BY REPORTING THIS TO YOU.
I RECEIVED RECALL AND I CALL MY GM DEALER AND THEY HAVE NOT YET CALLED ME AS OF TODAY TO GET THIS RECALL DONE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT IN AND IT HAS BEEN ALREADY 3 MONTHS SINCE THEN.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall with several unknown warning lights flashing on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that other electrical features such as the exterior lighting and the power locks would activate on and off independently during the failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that since there were no active warning lights displayed on the instrument panel, a diagnostic test could not be performed. The failure persisted and the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V614000 (Electrical System) which she linked to the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Hello this car have an incomplete recall I need to get fixed can you help me out with this?? Thanks

EXPERIENCED A CLUNKING OR BANGING NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE RIGHT FRONT MOUNTING BRACKET FOR THE SWAY BAR BROKE OFF THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE.
'SERVICE SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT WARNING DISPLAYS ON CONTROL CENTER. I'M HAVING THIS ISSUE NOW IT'S CAUSING OTHER THINGS TO GO BACK AS IF I HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM ALL KIND OF WARNING LIGHTS ARE GOING ON AND THEN OFF
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN ON A RECALL FOR AIR BAG SAFETY CONCERN FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. I HAVE CALLED NUMEROUS TIMES GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMPLAINED THAT MY LOCAL DEALERS REFUSES TO REPLACE THIS ITEM. EVERY TIME I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUNAROUND REGARDING THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I KEEP GETTING NOTICES OF THE RECALL BUT WHAT GOOD IS IT WHEN GM AND THE DEALERSHIPS REFUSE TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG. IF YOU CONTACT THEM, YOU CAN SEE HOW MANY TIMES IV'E CALLED THEM AND COMPLAINED. DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO EXCEPT WAIT UNTIL A PASSENGER GETS INJURED OR DIES.
CRACKED DASH
I HAVE 2013 TAHOE. IT ONLY HAVE 87,500K ITS BLACK. THE DASHBOARD IS CRACKED. IT JUST SHOWED UP 2 WEEKS AGO. THE VEHICLE IS KEPT GARAGE AT ALL TIME AT THE HOUSE. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAPPEN. I KNOW A PERSON ALSO HAS A 2013 TAHOE AND HER DASHBOARD CRACKED. THEY REPLACED IT, BUT THE NEW ONE CRACKED ALSO. I HAVE A 2001 FORD F150 AND THE DASH IS NOT CRACKED. WHY IS GMC/CHEVROLET DASHBOARDS ARE CRACKED. THE DASHBOARD IS PLASTICITY THAT IS WHY IS CRACKING. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A NEW ONE. THANK YOU.
DASH CRACK WITHOIT WARNING ABOVE GAUGE CLUSTER ON DRIVER'S SIDE. VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT A MAJORITY OF THE TIME. VEHICLE SPENDS A FEW DAYS A WEEK OUTSIDE DURING THE DAY. FIRST SIGN OF A CRACK APPEARED WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTSIDE DURING A WORK DAY. HIGH TEMP FOR THE DAY WAS APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREES.
DASHBOARD HAS BECOME CRACKED AROUND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND THE DASHBOARD ALSO HAS NUMEROUS OTHER CRACKS. THE CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED OVER THE TIME SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 2015. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PICTURES RELATING TO THIS ISSUE CIRCULATING ONLINE. I ALSO PURCHASED THE BEST WARRANTY GM OFFERS, INCLUDING THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY, BUT THAT DIDN'T INCLUDE THE DASHBOARD AS I WAS TOLD.
Dash board is falling apart around air bag and instrument cluster.
CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED AT THE CENTER AND PASSENGER SIDE AREAS OF THE DASHBOARD AND APPEAR TO BE GROWING AS THE DASH COOLS AND WARMS. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY FOR SEVERAL DAYS PRIOR TO NOTICING THE CRACKS. THE PASSENGER SIDE CRACK, LIKE MANY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED, IS AT THE RIGHT REAR CORNER OF THE AIRBAG CONTAINMENT AREA ON THE DASH. THIS CRACK IS ESPECIALLY CONCERNING AS IT LOOKS TO BE UNDER PRESSURE AND BULGING. MY BIGGEST CONCERN AT THIS POINT IS THE AIRBAG GOING OFF PREMATURELY WHILE WE ARE DRIVING. *TR
DASH SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS, WHICH CAUSES DISTRACTING SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN DRIVING. I FIND MYSELF TAKING MY EYES OFF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO PUT MY HAND ON THE SOURCE OF HE SQUEAKING CRACK IN THE PLASTIC.
I TOOK MY TAHOE IN FOR REPAIRS AT AL SIERRA CHEVROLET TO GET AN 02 OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACED. UPON RECEIVING MY TAHOE BACK FROM REPAIRS I NOTICED THAT MY DASH BOARD HAD CRACKED NEAR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. *TR
THE DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS INCLUDING 3 CRACKS AROUND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WHICH I BELIEVE LEADS TO A SAFETY HAZARD SHOULD THE BAG DEPLOY. IF DEPLOYED, THE SHATTERED PLASTIC WOULD BE SENT AS PROJECTILES THROUGH THE CAR RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. ALSO, IF THE AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED, THE PLASTIC SHARDS COULD CUT THE AIRBAGS RENDERING THEM INEFFECTIVE. I'M ASKING FOR THIS TO BE REPORTED TO GENERAL MOTORS AS A SEVER SAFETY CONCERN AND ISSUE A RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BEFORE THERE IS SERIOUS INJURY. THANK YOU. *TR
MY DASH IS CRACKED IN 3 PLACES AS OF THE LAST 2 WEEKS. IN GOOGLING THE ISSUE, IT APPEARS THERE WAS A LAW SUIT AGAINST GM ABOUT THIS DEFECTIVE PART IN THE VEHICLE. HTTPS://WWW.CARPARTS.COM/BLOG/THE-LATEST-ON-THE-GM-CRACKED-DASH-ISSUE/ I WOULD LIKE HELP WITH RECTIFYING THE REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR OF THE DEFECTIVE PART.
3 OUT OF 4 DOOR ACTUATORS HAVE QUIT WORKING, ALL WITHIN A TWO WEEK PERIOD.
DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED ABOVE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND ABOVE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OR MOVING AT THE MOMENT THE CRACKS OCCURRED. NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN PLACED ON THE DASHBOARD THAT COULD CAUSE THE CRACKS.
THE DASHBOARD COVER IS CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES. THE VEHICLE IS WELL MAINTAINED, GARAGED AND HAS NOT BEEN USED OFF PAVED ROADS. THE CRACKS ARE A SAFETY HAZARD IN THE EVENT OF EVEN SMALL COLLISIONS SINCE THEY CREATE SHARP CORNERS AND POINTED ENDS. IN THE EVENT OF A MAJOR COLLISION, PIECES WOULD LIKELY BECOME HAZARDOUS FLYING OBJECTS PROPELLED BY THE AIRBAGS.
REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ON DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE WHILE OPENING GLASS HATCH. SOLDERED JOINT BROKE AWAY FROM GLASS. SEEMS AS IF THE ELECTRICAL WIRE IS TOO SHORT OR UNDER TOO MUCH TENSION. BACK GLASS WILL NO LONGER DEFROST LIMITING VISIBILITY. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN PROBLEM OCCURRED. *TR
I JUST NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD IN MY 2013 CHEVROLET TAHOE LTZ IS CRACKING!!
