When we first purchased our 2023 Tahoe the engine was making a tiking noise we took it back and they told us it was because it was brand new time past engine always needs oil when we drive it u have to press gas pedal it also has electrical problems back camera turns on and off . Brake sensors don’t work . I almost had a bad car accident due to the engine that it had stop because it said reduced power while I was on a highway . I lost my son 3 yrs ago in a car wreck . I don’t want no more accidents so please help me figure some out with my Tahoe . I also went to dealership and they directed me to a manager . Manager never help never called back or nothing we bought truck at friendly Chevrolet
Repeated issues with the infotainment system had to be replaced 3 times to date. The motor blew at 49,000 miles 3 weeks ago. The replacement motor is on back order and it is very difficult to get a loaner vehicle, not to mention having to make a payment on the vehicle that I don’t have to use.
Engine connecting rods and crankshaft have manufacture defects that could cause engine failure resulting in a crash. Driving in a large city with an infant and toddler makes the possibility of sudden engine failure extremely dangerous. It puts everyone in the vehicle at risk but especially the children at a huge safety risk. Engine makes odd sound but multiple Chevy dealerships say they won't look at it because they don't have an answer from GM.
I went to reverse and my brakes didn’t work, the error then came on dash “break system failure max speed 43 mph” I then had to drift into a parking lot to wait for my car to stop. Car dealership said they can’t find anything wrong, I have images showing the error
To whom it may concern, I had purchased Tahoe 2023 few months back . It’s my first suv through carvana, I’m very disappointed since I had the suv. From first day it start giving me issue I even got few things fixed under warranty. But as soon the warranty expired the suv had transmession issue . Looks like who ever carvana got this suv from has issue with it . I believe carvana has not throughly checked the suv . it’s really disappointing. Now my suv is at dealer and already need to replace some part in transmission. And the worse part is they don’t even have parts available from GMC . Now I’m stuck with repair cost and have no car to drive because they can’t give me eta on parts . I need someone to contact me and please try to help me out with this matter . While driving the vehicle, the transmission stopped shifting and the engine shut off. There was no warning.
The vehicle shut off on the expressway causing a very dangerous situation. After several attempts it would not start again. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer and they advised me the engine has seized up. Most likely they told me the engine blew and will need replacing.

Traveling in left lane of [XXX] . Vehicle screen went black and car lost all power. No warning lights. Vehicle towed and inpected by GM dealership and determined that the vehicle needed a new engine. Vehicle maintenance records confirmed proper maintenance was done. Vehicle only 13 months old. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The car presented steering lock column issues with repair lights on at 50 miles. Since then, they have repaired the system numerous times and replaced that system fully twice. They also replaced the manual start system and six other pieces of the car over 18 visits to two different Chevy dealerships. The car still reduces speed and stops acceleration, has electric issues in the windows, lights and gate etc.
At approximately 19.000 miles when the car sits for an extended period of time, at the first start up, blue smoke comes from the exhaust tail pipe. Brought it to the dealer and they said that, that was normal. With the issues they are having with the engines, I wanted this to be noted, because blue smoke is indicative of either bad piston rings or bad valve seals. This should not be happening on a vehicle with 19,000 miles and have oil changes at every 3000 miles.
Engine: Power lost and engine shut down. Yes, it is available for inspection. Warning Lamps: Engine lamp came on: [XXX] [XXX] Engine shut down while driving. While bring my Grandson, home from school. I was on the ramp to exit the interstate, at the stop sign I lightly touched my brakes because I was going very slow, nothing was coming when I accelerated the engine totally shut down in between both lanes on a state highway. All of the warning lamps on the dashboard were lighting up and blinking, all of the alerts were making noises, no power and I had no control of the vehicle, then the “press start signal” came on, I had to quickly place from drive to park, and then press the start button to crank the vehicle. While this was going on my Grandson asked me in a startled voice “what’s happening”. Scary is not the word “I saw my life and his life flash before my eyes” with my Grandson in the vehicle. That’s a [XXX] of a feeling that you never want to experience. Then he said “this is nothing but a tin can ”. All of my family calls this vehicle a “Tin Can”! This was a very dangerous situation that could have been life-threatening or death. The problem has not been reproduced. Dealership sent a GM Field Service Engineer to inspect vehicle on 3/18/25. I have had many problems with this vehicle that cannot be diagnosed. Engineer test drove twice and scanned for codes before and after test drives. His findings: no codes found, was unable to reproduce power loss, and loose negative terminal on battery post tightened. I was driving on Highway and system said engine oil hot. 10 seconds later the engine stopped. Could not get it restarted as I moved over to the shoulder. Had vehicle towed and engine was seized. 28,000 miles on vehicle.
Traveling on the interstate late at night in the winter with my family, which includes small children, a clicking noise began but then went away. No diagnostic lamps came on, everything seemed fine, vehicle responded appropriately. Moments later, on a remote stretch of interstate, we lost power and the engine shut down. The vehicle would not turn back on. We were stranded in the dark on a freezing night.
While driving, without warning my brake system failed and vehicle did not stop when I applied my foot on the breaks. In addition to while driving up a steep incline the engine failed as I was actively applying my foot to the gas pedal causing vehicle to roll backwards. Most importantly i do not feel confident using this vehicle any further knowing that the brakes are Not operating as they should, risking my life and my children’s life is nonnegotiable. Someone help please.
On January 21, 2025 while with my family in -15 degrees, the vehicle suddenly went into ABS lock. We were completely immobilized and unable to move the vehicle. The following warning lights illuminated on the dashboard:Antilock Braking System errorService Steering Column LockService Traction ControlBrake System Failure 43 MPH top speed. The vehicle was effectively locked, preventing us from driving or even reversing. This left me and my family stranded in a potentially hazardous situation with the freezing temperatures.
Our engine (v8 6.2 liter) failed with out warning while my wife was driving. She said that while driving all of a sudden the dash started flashing telling her to restart the engine. The car just started shutting down. She had to immediately pull off into the median and barely made it out of the fast lane when the car stopped. She was so close to the fast lane that there wasn’t enough room for a person to stand without being hit. We had our Tahoe towed to the closest dealer thinking maybe it was an alternator. The dealer confirmed it was a failed engine and that our vehicle is the third vehicle on their lot with the same failed engine. All of the failed engine vehicles have right at 40 k miles plus or minus 1k miles. The only problem that we had noticed before the failure, happened that morning when I took the Tahoe to fuel up for my wife prior to her leaving. I noticed the engine cranked slow for a second before it started. I thought maybe the battery is just getting weak and that as she drove it that day, it would charge the battery. The exact failure as I understand it from the technician is “ the 5th cylinder failed in the lower half of the engine.” Apparently this is failing because the bearings weren’t properly seated during manufacturing.
Failure - metal in the oil. Engine replacement at roughly 11,800 miles.
The vehicle’s transmission began slipping at low speeds with less than 40000 miles. I took it to the dealership for diagnostic testing and the requested that I do “maintenance transmission fluid replacement” as well as some additional reprogramming which the dealer also deemed as maintenance. However, the required transmission fluid replacement was not required until 45000 miles and the reprogramming is not listed anywhere in the maintenance plan.
I was driving in the fast lane and all of a sudden my car went into neutral. Thankfully, my children were not in the car and I was able to merge over safely to the side of the freeway. after as I barely pulled off the car completely shut off. I tried to turn back on several times but would not start back up. I had my Tahoe towed to the dealership, and they told me the engine seized up and was a failed engine. Dealership ended up ordering another engine and it was missing some sort of plug that failed and had to replace again!
Engine performance issues, engine hesitation, abnormal shifting, and reduced propulsion. Interior dash and radio illumination goes black. Blinkers fail to work; no sound comes from the radio and speakers. Mirrors fail to tuck after command given to do so.
On several occasions while operating the vehicle during inclement weather the windshield wipers intermittently stopped working. Restarting the vehicle several times did not remedy the problem. Once the vehicle was parked for a while the wipers started working again. This vehicle has been to the dealership regarding this issue numerous times and sent back in service with a message from the technician, could not duplicate the complaint.
On [XXX] while driving on the highway near Wash DC engine stopped, went to neutral. Would not start again. OnStar towed vehicle to Koons Chevrolet GMC Tyson in Vienna VA. 703 448 7221. On Tuesday Jan 7th, Koons Service Dept. looked at vehicle and determined that it was a thrown bearing and needed a new engine. There are 28,712 miles on vehicle. You can inspect if desired. Our safety was extremely compromised. We were on a 5 lane highway in the left hand lane going 65. Engine quit and we had to coast to the far right lane in heavy traffic. We almost got hit several times on the maneuver and rear ended on the side of the road from oncoming vehicles while waiting for a tow. Dealer has work order to fix the vehicle. Vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer that we know of, nor the police or insurance representatives. Only inspected by the dealership. The only symptom before the incident was a dull sound like a plastic bag being stuck in the grill for a few minutes before incident. The Service Department said the parts are on a "Galactic backorder" which means they do not know when they will come in. GM is extremely uncooperative in assisting us with this issue. They will not repurchase vehicle, will not put in writing why they wont repurchase it. Will not provide any compensation until the issue is resolved, which could be months. It is an extreme financial hardship for me to cover my rental car (taxes and insurance for the rental car are not covered) and continue to pay the car payment and the insurance on a car that is not available to me. My case number with GM is [XXX]. I need my loan payed off or a repurchase for the original value of my car so I can purchase another vehicle. On Sunday January 12, I was driving the vehicle on the highway with my cruise control on. The engine started missing the speed dropped a bit as the cruise control would not hold the speed. A mile or so later the vehicle engine started knocking with a metallic sound. I pulled over at the next exit and stopped at a store to look at the engine. There was nothing loose and a deep metallic knocking coming from the engine block, so I shut off the vehicle and called OnStar. At no time did any warning lights or other indicators come on. The gauges were normal. They/OnStar indicated I should not drive the vehicle, and they will tow to nearest Chevy Dealer for service and give me a $50 credit to take a Lyft to local airport to get a rental car. I was almost 4 hours away from home as I was travelling. After a week of turmoil with the local dealership I was told the vehicle needs a new engine. There is no ETA on the new engine as GM has to build it and has parts shortages. This was 5 weeks ago. I have been driving a rental since and there is still no indicate from the dealership about what happened or why. The vehicle is a 2023 and still under warranty but I am having to pay for the rental and request reimbursement which hasn't happened to date. There is very little information available, and I am in no man's land without a vehicle, so I have an open ended rental situation.
6.2l engine catastrophic engine failure with appt 17,000 miles on odometer. Kendall Chevrolet of marysville Washington has new engine on back order.
After getting gas just outside of Pueblo Colorado on [XXX] I was entering [XXX] and luckily I was in the right lane when all of a sudden no power to the vehicle. I was able to make it by inches in the clear on the shoulder of the road. Being [XXX], I had trouble crawling over the console through the passenger side of the vehicle because I could not safely see the traffic on the interstate to exit the vehicle on the driver side. The state police could not come to assist us with any type of traffic control because of other accidents. The BNSF railroad has a mutual aid pack with them when needed in an emergency situation. They were able to come assist us with the red lights for traffic control, and the tow truck arrived and was able to flatbed the vehicle to a GM Chevy dealership. The tow truck also delivered our 26 foot travel trailer to the nearby campground. If it wouldn’t have been for the BNSF police this could’ve been horrendous accident because of the traffic. I have never been in a more scary situation as with the 2023 Tahoe built by a major corporation and being as unsafe as it is. I have been told the engine needs to be replaced because the bearings failed with metal fragments found in the oil pan. GM has been aware of this problem with the 6.2 engine for many years and has never done anything. Is it gonna take people getting killed on the highway to get something done. The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 15 MPH up an incline, there was an abnormal bumping sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated, and the transmission was slipping. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 17,000.
While sitting at an intersection of a busy 4 lane road the engine stoped without warning and could not be restarted. Due to a poor design by GM, the Tahoe has no ability to be put in neutral when the engine isn’t running. We were stuck at a busy intersection an almost hit multiple times, until a tow truck could come since it cannot be put in neutral and pushed. Dealer inspected engine and found it had been burning oil. The car never gave any warning lights that it was low on oil or that there were any engine issues. They did an oil change and gave the car back. The car was running, but within less than 5 miles of driving it it started to shake and make horrible noises. At this point, I was driving on the interstate. I was able to limp the vehicle back to the dealer. It was diagnosed by a dealer with spun engine bearing. I was told they were very close to seizing up and I would’ve been stranded on the interstate with no shoulder. This could’ve caused a major issue as I was on a busy interstate and the vehicle would’ve locked up. There was no shoulder at this point due to construction. Through both of these issues the vehicle never gave any dashboard warning lights. There are two major design flaws. The engine has an issue with its bearings. Also, there needs to be a way to put the vehicle into neutral while the engine is not running. It is not safe to not be able to put these vehicles into neutral.
Vehicle broke down on 12/1/2024. Had it towed to the nearest dealership. Dealership claimed that gasoline was pumped into the tank. We knew that wasn't the case. I called the store we last used for fuel and spoke to the manager. She was able to pull my wife up on surveillance and verified that she pumped diesel fuel from a "diesel fuel only" pump on 11/21/24. We also verified that the fuel in the holding tank at the store was actual diesel fuel. My wife purchased 23.45 gallons of diesel fuel. The tank size on this Tahoe is a 24 gallon tank. We had burned half of this fuel before the vehicle broke down. We also verified that no one else had complained about the fuel from the store. Dealership said it needed a new engine. We had it towed to another dealership for a second opinion, but they couldn't verify what happened because the 1st dealership had cleaned out the fuel system. I called GM but they won't help because they are going off what the 1st dealership claimed. Vehicle is still under power train warranty, but they won't fix it. This vehicle left us stranded on the side of the road. Insurance was called and a representative did go and look at the Tahoe. He called back and said that the issue does not fall within our policy.
Onstar Telematics Module failure. Part is on backorder with no ETA. This module failure removes the navigation, Onstar services including safety notifications, clocks can stop working, Android auto/Apple Carplay services are not functional or intermittently working. My vehicle has stalled out at a red light. GM is refusing to cover the replacement saying it is out of the bumper to bumper to warranty but they have so many of these needing replaced they can't say when they will get the parts. Module has been confirmed dead by a mechanic at a private shop and by the dealership. GM states this is under the bumper to bumper to warranty even though it controls parts of the power train and should be covered under powertrain warranty as well.
With 63,000 miles the vehicle experienced catastrophic engine failure on a freeway. This resulted in loss of power with no ability to get the vehicle to a safe location. It was determined that the #7 crankshaft bearing was the cause of failure and the compete engine was replaced as a result.
Vehicle 1 pulled out into Vehicle 2s lane and cut them off causing Vehicle 2 to slam on the breaks causing My vehicle ( Vehicle 3 ) to collide into the back of vehicle 2. No emergency breaking a-curd and no airbags deployed durring contact at rate of speed of 45-60MPH. Total damage to Vehicle 2 rear end and total damage to vehicle 3 front end.
The vehicle made a ding sound and the air bag light came on for a few seconds and then went off.
1st incident- Engine had a bad lifter and cam shaft with 46,000miles. When this happened I was going through a railroad crossing, if the failure was bad enough and locked the engine up I would have been stuck on the tracks with my family. This issue could cause the motor to lock up if the lifter or cam shaft had a more serious failure. Dealer confirmed the lifter and cam shaft were bad and replaced. the engine had a vibration 2 weeks before the failure but the dealership could not identify or duplicate the issue. Vehicle was in the shop for 35 days to repair. 2nd incident- Parking brake and brake system locked up and would not release until the vehicle was reset. Scheduled vehicle to be towed in and the brakes locked up again while loading the vehicle to tow. Dealer is still troubleshooting the issue after 5 days. Errors on screen "Forward Collision System unavailable, Brake system failure 43mph top speed, Service steering column lock, service traction control, Service ESC, Service Brake Pad Monitor" If this happened while on the highway it had the chance to cause a serious wreck.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 39,144.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while the dealer was performing an oil change on the vehicle, the dealer informed the contact that the engine was making an abnormal knocking sound. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to GM Campaign Number: N232413430. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to partially cover the repair. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Feels like the transmission is slipping. When I step on the gas it makes a jerking/ tugging motion like its pulling backwards and feels as though it has no power. It’s gotten progressively worse now over 10k miles and I should not have any engine problems with a new car. This happens every time I drive it. The problem is not fixing itself it’s getting worse by the day.
The windshield wipers stop working. This is the third time it has occurred in the last 8,000 miles. While driving they quit working and will start back after.20-25 minutes. I took it to the dealer and they did a software update however it has done this again. This is a major safety issue.
I was driving down the interstate and with the no warning the vehicle would not accelerate any longer and tried to coast onto the exit. Totally stopped blocking all traffic on the exit. Could not crank the engine or at least put in to neutral to push out of the road. Had it towed to dealership and they said motor had seized up, connecting rod bearing seized on crankshaft causing extensive metal contamination throughout engine. Wanted GM to buy back the vehicle but would not. Only replaced the engine.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that soon after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle's lane assist feature would be active with no other vehicles in the contact vehicle's vicinity. The contact also stated that multiple other electrical defects would occur such as the backup camera activating while in drive(D), the instrument panel intermittently going blank, and various other defects. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions where they failed to duplicate the failure. The contact then stated that while driving at 80 MPH, the instrument panel went blank. The contact attempted to pull the vehicle over; however, an unknown turn-off of the vehicle warning message appeared on the instrument panel as a warning chime was also emitted from the vehicle. The contact then stated that the vehicle then came to an abrupt stop where the engine and brakes seized, while traveling at 34 MPH. Due to the failure, the contact was taken to the hospital where they were treated for whiplash, inflammation in the neck and spine, 7 bulging discs in the spine, and pain in various parts of the body. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure; the vehicle's engine was replaced under warranty. Despite the repair, the contact refused to take possession of the vehicle as they did not feel safe driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; the contact had yet to receive any assistance from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH in rainy weather, the windshield wipers became inoperable. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the windshield wipers became functional. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 65 MPH in a rainstorm, the windshield wipers became inoperable. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact activated the windshield washer fluid to clear the windshield; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal tapping sound coming from the engine compartment, which became extremely loud while accelerating. Upon arriving at the intended destination, the vehicle stalled and was unable to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the crankshaft, resulting in damage to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that a similar failure occurred in July 2024, and the engine was replaced. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); the VIN was included, but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.
The infotainment screed goes black. To get it to go on you have to turn the car off, get out of the car with the key fob so the vehicle is completely disconnected and wait 10 to 15 minutes. After it starts working the infotainment systems "crashes" in about 30 to 45 minutes. It is a constant problem. The infotainment system includes all vehicle safety systems settings and speaker. The warnings will not work because the speaker is not working. Also the On Star system will not work in case of an emergency. On Star uses the infotainment system to work. I can not stop all the time so it dangerous while driving. I took it to the dealer and they said GM knows about the problem but does not have a fix. The problem started near the end of June, 2024. The issue was reproduced by the dealer.
On 5/27/23 I purchased a new 2023 Chevy Tahoe RST with a 6.2L V8 engine. On 5/28/2024, between 5 and 6pm (rush hour) I merged onto State Highway 32 in Maryland. I accelerated to match the speed of traffic and moved to the far-left lane. I was traveling between 60 and 65 MPH when my vehicle shifted into neutral by itself. I was unable to shift the vehicle back into drive. There was no shoulder on the left, so I had to coast through 2 lanes of traffic moving at a similar speed to reach the far-right lane. I could have very easily caused an accident, injuring myself or others. After successfully pulling off onto the shoulder I was still unable to move out of neutral. I had to shut off my engine and restart the vehicle to shift it into drive. I was unable to recreate the failure and safely made it home. In the days following the incident, I began to hear a clicking sound when I accelerated. At no time did a check engine light turn on and my OnStar vehicle report showed my Tahoe was in good health, including the engine. I brought the vehicle to Criswell Chevrolet on 6/14/24 to service the vehicle. I was told later that afternoon that my vehicle required a brand new engine. The vehicle and engine are available for inspection upon request. I was awestruck that a brand new vehicle with 19,000 miles could possibly need to have the engine replaced. While conducting online research, I see that other 2023 Tahoe owners have had a similar experience.
