ON DECEMBER 7TH, 2015 I TOOK MY 2002 CHEVY TAILBLAZER TO LEE PARTYKA CHEVROLET AFTER RECIEVING A LETTER THAT STATED AFTER 10 YEARS THE GAS TANK ON THESE VEHICLES GO BAD AND GET LEAKS IN THEM. A WEEK LATER THEY CALLED ME AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX MY VEHICLE AND NEITHER DID THEY HAVE A GAS TANK TO REPLACE IT WITH AND THAT I NEEDED TO PICK UP MY TRUCK AND RETURN THE RENTAL CAR. LEE PARTYKA MADE IT CLEAR TO GENERAL MOTORS THAT THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE NECAUSE OF THE GAS LEAK SO TODAY ON FEBRUARY QST THEY TOLD ME THAT CAR WAS OK TOO DRIVE AND LEE PARTYKA SAID AGAIN ITS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND GSVE ME A LOANER FROM THERE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE GOTTEN NO HELP OR UNDERSTANDING FROM GENERAL MOTORS I FEEL THIS OS THERE PROBLEM. NOW THEY SAY THEY CANT FIX THE TANK OR REPLACE IT TIL MAY IF THEY FIND A TANK. AND THEY WONT CONTINUE TO ACCOMODATE ME WITH A RENTAL VEHICLE SO FOR ME TO JUST PUT $5 WORTH OF GAS IN IT ANDDRIVE IT WHEN LEE PARTYKA AGAIN SAID IT IS UNSAFE. STATIONARY.
#1. ON 2 OCCASIONS LAST WEEK, MY TRAILBLAZER SUDDENLY LOST MOST OF ITS POWER, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT REDUCED ENGINE POWER CAME ON! I PULLED OVER, CUT THE CAR OFF, THEN RESTARTED IT, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. #2. THE SEAT BELTS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER AND REAR RIGHT SIDES LOCK UP TIGHTLY THE MOMENT YOU BUCKLE UP. IT LOCKS UP SO TIGHTLY THAT YOU CANNOT MOVE IF YOU WANTED. THESE PROBLEMS SHOWED WHILE DRIVING ON MIAMI STREETS. #3. ON 2 OR 3 OCCASIONS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE CAME INTO THE CAR WHILE DRIVING. THE SMELL SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM INSIDE THE BACK OF THE CAR, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE ANY GASOLINE BACK THERE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, I SMELLED GAS OUTSIDE IN THE AREA OF GAS TANK.
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE AT 60MPH. AS THE VEHICLE SLOWED IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED DESPITE MY APPLYING THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD. FINALLY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL WHILE STILL BRAKING HARD. I STOPPED JUST INCHES FROM THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THIS WAS A HARROWING FEW MOMENTS AND IF I HAD BEEN UNABLE TO STOP OR SLOWDOWN THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. MY GUESS IS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH SOME SORT OF ELECTRONIC ACCELERATOR ASSIST OR SOME COMPUTER PROBLEM WHICH HAS TO DO WITH ENGINE SPEED OR BRAKING.
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON CRASH INTO A TELEPHONE POLE AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER WAS INJURED AND THE DRIVER STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL AND DIED AT THE HOSPITAL FROM INTERNAL INJURIES. WE ARE TRYING TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT AND IT ALSO APPEARS THAT THE DECEASED DRIVER WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED AND TURNED OFF INDEPENDENTLY. WHEN THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE, THE LOCKS INDEPENDENTLY ENGAGED AND LOCKED THE CONTACT OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THAT INCIDENT. LATER, THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, INCLUDING THE SIDE VIEW MIRROR, POWER WINDOW, AND POWER LOCK SWITCHES, FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER'S DOOR MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REBOOTED THE MODULE AS A TEMPORARY REPAIR, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 195,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
NOTICED A STRONG GAS ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN NOVEMBER 2015 WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVY TELLING US THAT "FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE" COULD FRACTURE. WE TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP & WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE CASE WITH OUR TRAILBLAZER. WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE TANK REPLACED. IN DECEMBER THEY SUPPOSEDLY ORDERED THE PART, IT IS NOW ALMOST MAY & STILL NO PART. I HAVE TRIED CONTACTING CHEVY DIRECTLY & NO ONE IS WILLING TO HELP. THEY KEEP PUTTING ME OFF, SAYING THEY CAN'T FIND THE PART ETC. THEN TELLING ME IT WILL BE HERE FOLLOWING MONTH. THEY ARE JUST GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND, AND ALSO THEIR FAMOUS THING IS TO SAY WELL, IT'S A 2002 SO WE DON'T HAVE PARTS. THIS IS COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY. I CALLED CHEVY TODAY & WHEN THE "SENIOR ADVISOR" TOLD ME THE PART WOULD BE THERE IN MAY, I ASKED WHERE HE CAME UP WITH THAT INFORMATION HE HUNG UP ON ME. BEFORE THAT HE TOLD ME I MIGHT NEVER GET IT REPAIRED. IN THAT CASE THEY WOULD EVENTUALLY SEND ME A LETTER TELLING ME WHAT MY NEXT STEP MIGHT BE. I CANNOT BE THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND ESPECIALLY WITH IT NOT BEING RESOLVED PROPERLY.
THE COOLING LINES FROM THE TRANSMISSION OF THE 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER EXIT THE TRANSMISSION NEXT TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. A PORTION OF THE LINES ARE COVERED WITH A PROTECTIVE AND LOOSE FITTING COVER WHICH APPEARS TO BE ALUMINUM ALMOST LIKE A TIN FOIL. THIS COVERING CREATES AN AREA WHERE MOISTURE COLLECTS CAUSING THE LINES TO RUST. EVENTUALLY THE LINES START TO LEAK TRANSMISSION FLUID. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THE FLUID IS BLOWN ONTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND COULD START A FIRE UNDER THE VEHICLE EXPOSING THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS TO EXTREME DANGER. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE LEAK WAS OIL FROM THE ENGINE, BUT UPON CHECKING CLOSER, I FOUND THE TRANSMISSION LINES LEAKING. THE PLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE CONVERTER AND IF EXCESSIVE FLUID IS SPLATTERED ON THE CONVERTER, A FIRE COULD RESULT. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE LEAK WAS NOTICED. HOWEVER, THE FLUID WAS FOUND AFTER BEING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH SPLATTERED ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND SURROUNDING AREA OF THE VEHICLE. SPEAKING WITH AAMCO MECHANICS WHO REPLACED THE LINES, THEY FELT IT IS A REAL FIRE HAZARD. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT. WHAT BROUGHT MY ATTENTION TO THIS IS THE FACT I HAD A 1995 JIMMY AND HAD NOTICED A SIMILAR LEAK WHEN IT WAS 8 YEARS OLD. I HAD GIVEN THE TRUCK TO MY SON. AFTER HE HAD DRIVEN IT ON AN INTERSTATE, ANOTHER DRIVER YELLED AT HIM THAT HIS CAR WAS ON FIRE. THE ENTIRE UNDERSIDE WAS ON FIRE. FORTUNATELY HE WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE AND GET HIS FAMILY OUT BEFORE THE ENTIRE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE MARSHAL AT THE TIME THOUGHT A LINE OF SOME TYPE HAD BURST. I SUSPECT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION LINE SIMILAR TO THE TRAILBLAZER TRANSMISSION LINE.
GM RECALL: GM SPECIAL COVERAGE PROGRAM 14423: NOVEMBER 2015. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO VANDERGRIFF CHEVROLET TO CHECK MY FUEL TANK AS I WAS EXPERIENCING THE ISSUES OUTLINED IN THE RECALL LETTER. THEY CONCURRED THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. THEY LET ME HAVE A RENTAL FOR TWO WEEKS WHILE THE ORDERED THE PART. ONCE THEY FOUND OUT THAT GM OR AFFILIATE NO LONGER MANUFACTURES THE PART, THEY TOLD ME THAT GM WOULD NO LONGER PAY FOR THE RENTAL. THE ADVISED ME AS THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO FIND A MANUFACTURER TO BUILD A NEW FUEL TANK, THAT IN ORDER TO AVOID THE GAS FUMES, IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE AS LONG AS I DO NOT COMPLETELY FILL UP THE TANK WHEN I GAS UP. HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON OF COURSE, AND THAT WOULD PREVENT ME FROM PASSING THE STATE INSPECTION WHICH IS DUE IN TWO WEEKS. THEY OFFERED NO SOLUTION FOR ME ON THAT, AND STILL NO EXPECTATION AS TO WHEN THE FUEL TANK WOULD BE RECEIVED .IT HAS BEEN 6 MONTHS NOW. I TOOK MY TRUCK IN ORIGINALLY IN EARLY DECEMBER OF 2015.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECREASED IN SPEED INDEPENDENTLY AND SUDDENLY ACCELERATES. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OXYGEN SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FRAME IN MY TRAILBLAZER HAS BIG HOLES RUSTING THROUGH IT. A FRAME 100 YEARS OLD WILL NEVER RUST THROUGH. THE USE OF VERY CHEAP THIN STEEL MAY RESULT IN A ACCIDENT WHEN THE FRAME BREAKS IN HALF. I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE REGARDLESS OF HOW OLD THE CAR IS THE FRAME SHOULD NEVER RUST THROUGH

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY VEERED TO THE LEFT WHICH RESULTED IN BRIEF CONTROL LOSS OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A BARRIER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WAS ONE INJURY WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CAUGHT FIRE. A POLICE AND A FIRE REPORT WERE FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE LANES AND ANOTHER VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A U-TURN RESULTING IN THE CONTACT CRASHING INTO THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE HOOD CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY AN INDIVIDUAL. A POLICE AND A FIRE REPORT WERE FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
RECEIVED SPECIAL COVERAGE PROGRAM 14423 THAT STATED PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE COULD OCCUR. I HAVE FUEL ODORS, FUEL LEAKS, SERVICE ENGINE SOON AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHTS COMING ON WHILE DRIVING. MILEAGE IS 180,000 MILES AND A FUEL TANK SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM AT ANY TIME, BUT GM WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY COMPENSATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, ALL THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS RANDOMLY SHUT ON AND OFF. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SUDDENLY SWITCH TO FIRST GEAR AND CAUSED THE SPEED TO SUDDENLY REDUCE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT OPERATE IN REVERSE. AFTER SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,000.
THIS 2002 TRAILBLAZER IS VERY VERY HARD ON GAS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER 360. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE FAILURE HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V755000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 193,000.
2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER WITH 175,500 MILES HAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE ON PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE NEAR AIR FILTER BOX AND WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR. OF THE TWO LINES IN THIS AREA, ONE IS HEAVILY CORRODED WHILE THE OTHER APPEARS FINE. ONLY NOTICED AFTER TRANSMISSION HAD LEAKED >3 QUARTS OF ATF AND WAS SHIFTING ROUGH.
CAR WAS PARKED, UNATTENDED, IN PARKING LOT. I STARTED VEH WITH A AFTERMARKET INSTALLED, PROFESSIONALLY, REMOTE START. AS I APPROACHED MY VEH, ABOUT TEN-15 FEET AWAY, I HEARD A LOUD POP, AND LOOKED AROUND SAW NOTHING. I OPENED MY DRIVER DOOR AND DISCOVERED MY DRIVER AIR BAG HAD EXPLODED, SMOKE STILL IN THE INTERIOR. NO ACCIDENT, CAR WAS PARKED, UNATTENDED. NO INJURIES, NO OTHER DAMAGE.
OIL PRESSURE GAUGE DROPS TO 0 WHEN MOTOR IS IDLED UP OIL PRESSURE RETURNS TO NORMAL. THIS HAS BEEN AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND DOES NOT OCCUR ALL THE TIME. IT HAS HAPPENED OVER THE LAST 2 TO 3 WEEKS AND ONLY WHEN I COME TO A STOP. TRUCK IDLES FINE AND SHOWS NO OTHER PROBLEMS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH PASSENGERS INSIDE, THE SMELL OF FUEL VAPORS WERE SO OVERWHELMING THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE STOPPED AND THE PASSENGER HAD TO BE ESCORTED IN A NEW VEHICLE TO THE DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CHEVROLET DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION OF THE RETURN AND SENDER LINES OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE AND THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. UPDATED 8/21/15*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PART IN 2012, BUT IT EXPIRED. THEREFORE, THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT COVER ANY EXPENSES FOR THE REPAIR. UPDATED 12/1/2015*JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MERGED OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND COMING TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE TRAVELED FROM ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE OTHER SIDE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO MANUEVER. ALSO, WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, CROSSED OVER A RAILROAD TRACK, AND CRASHED INTO AN IRON FENCE AND A TELEPHONE POLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT KNEE AND WHIPLASH THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED BRUISES, WHIPLASH, AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES THAT RUN NEXT TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER/EXHAUST PIPE ARE PRONE TO 'RUST-THROUGH' DUE TO THE INSULATION WRAP THAT HAS BEEN ADDED BECAUSE OF BEING SO CLOSE TO THE HIGH HEAT SOURCE. THIS INSULATION TRAPS MOISTURE AND SALT IN NORTHERN AREAS AND CAUSES THE LINES TO CORRODE AND LEAK TRANSMISSION FLUID. I FEEL THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD AS THE FLUID CAN DRIP DIRECTLY ONTO THE EXHAUST COMPONENTS. FORTUNATELY I COULD SMELL THIS AFTER I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE OTHERWISE I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOW OF THE LEAK. DEPENDING ON WHEN THE LEAK ACTUALLY TAKES PLACE AND THE RATE OF LEAKAGE THIS COULD ALSO RESULT IN TRANSMISSION FAILURE IF THE DRIVER IS UNAWARE THAT THE VEHICLE IS LOSING FLUID, IE: EXTENDED HIGHWAY DRIVING. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING THIS CORROSION AND RESULTANT LEAKAGE IS VERY COMMON AND SHOULD BE LISTED AS A SAFETY RECALL. THANK YOU *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, A SMOKE ODOR EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE RESIDENCE AND PARKED WHEN THE CONTACT DISCOVERED BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND FILED A REPORT. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WITH THE BRAKES ENGAGED, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED AND THE VEHICLE JERKED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 192,000.

I WAS SLOWING DOWN AS I WAS ENTERING AN INTERSECTION AND THERE WAS TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME. I SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES AND STRUCK THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NONE OF THE OCCUPANTS OF EITHER VEHICLE WAS HURT, PER POLICE REPORT.
