Open the full vehicle complaint log (all categories)I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED GOING ABOUT 50MPH AND HIT A TREE IN MY YARD, THEN THE FRONT END LIFTED OFF THE GROUND AND THE CAR RACED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO MY FRIEND'S CAR. THEY BOTH HIT MY PICKUP TRUCK ALSO. ALL 3 VEHICLES ARE A TOTAL LOSS. FROM THE NEIGHBORS WHO OBSERVED THIS, IT'S A MIRACLE I WASN'T BADLY INJURED. ALSO I HAVE A TEAR IN MY ACHILLES TENDON ON RIGHT FOOT SO IN NO WAY COULD I HAVE MASHED ON ACCELERATOR
I OPENED MY POWER LIFT GATE USING MY KEY FAB. AFTER PUTTING ITEMS IN THE BACK, I PUSHED THE CLOSE BUTTON LOCATED ON THE LIFT GATE. I THOUGHT I HAD LEFT MY KEYS LAYING INSIDE WITH THE ITEMS I HAD JUST PLACED IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. KNOWING THAT THE SENSORS WOULD READ THAT MY ARM WOULD BLOCK THE DOOR FROM CLOSING, I COULD RETRIEVE MY KEYS. AS IT CONTINUED TO CLOSE, I REALIZED THAT IT WAS NOT RECOGNIZING MY ARM. AS I TRIED TO PULL MY ARM AWAY FROM THE DOOR, IT CAUGHT MY THUMB AND CRUSHED IT. IT REMAINED CLOSED IN THE BACK HATCH UNTIL HELP ARRIVED TO OPEN IT WITH THE KEYS. I WENT TO MY DR AND RECEIVED XRAYS. I FRACTURED MY THUMB AND AM CURRENTLY RECEIVING PHYSICAL THERAPY TREATMENT. I AM CONSTANTLY IN PAIN. WHEN I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS, I WAS BRUSHED OFF.
THE LIFTGATE IS CLOSING AUTONOMOUSLY, WITHOUT ANY OF THE BUTTONS ON THE LIFTGATE, KEY FOB, OR CONSOLE BEING PUSHED. IT HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES NOW, STARTING THIS MORNING, FEB 14, 2018. TWICE IT ALMOST HIT SOMEONE ON THE HEAD WHEN PLACING ITEMS INTO OR REMOVING ITEMS FROM THE REAR STORAGE AREA. THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND STATIONARY.
Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA. A high complaint count may reflect vehicle popularity, not defect severity. Data sourced from NHTSA public records.
