The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Crossfire. The contact received a recall notice from the manufacturer for NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V081000(Air Bags). The contact had taken the vehicle to several local dealers, where the contact was informed that the special tool needed to complete the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the air bag warning had illuminated recently. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was contacted, but the contact had not received a call back. The failure mileage was 17,726.
The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Crossfire. The contact was advised of NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V081000 (AIR BAGS). The vehicle was taken to several dealers; however, the dealers refused to complete the recall repair. The contact was informed that since the vehicle was an older model, the dealers did not have the appropriate equipment to code the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and advised the contact that a Takata field inspector would reach out. The contact was informed that the air bag sensor had failed; however, due to the age of the vehicle and the equipment not being available, the air bag sensor would fail. The failure persisted, and the vehicle remained at the residence unrepaired. The vehicle was no longer driven out of safety concerns. The failure mileage was approximately 13,400.
My car has 47,800 miles on it and is a convertible. Its a known problem among crossfire owners and it hasn't been resolved. The problem is the rear window is coming undone and just falls out. The dealerships won't fix it and auto repair shops want thousands of dollars. It's not only a quality issue but a HUGE safety issue as well. If that window was to fall while someone is driving the car it could injure them while they are driving or possibly fall onto the road and causing countless problems and injuries to the other motorists driving behind the car. Its not an issue of the owner of the car being negligent or miss using the vehicle, its a quality and safety issue.
Hello, I have installed Ground Control adjustable camber arms on my vehicle to permit camber adjustment to within factory recommendations. These same model camber arms are failing on a number of vehicles which are identical to mine (Chrysler Crossfire). My vehicle has not yet failed. A photo is attached. They pose an extreme safety hazard, as they can cause complete loss of vehicle control. There have been no injuries yet, but it is only a matter of time. Thank you for considering my report.

ON MAY 18, 2020 AS I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 25 MPH, I HEARD A SCRAPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR GLASS AREA. I PULLED OVER TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I THEN NOTICED THE REAR GLASS WINDOW HAD FALLEN INTO THE CAR, HELD INTACT BY THE REAR DEFROSTER CORD CATCHING IT AND LOOSELY DANGLING IN THE BREEZE. I INFORMED CHRYSLER OF THIS PROBLEM (CHRYSLER CUSTOMER HOTLINE 1-800-992-1997, CASE NUMBER 76293394), BUT THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS THROUGH GOOGLE AND YOUR OWN WEBSITE, NHTSA.GOV. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING AT AN INTERSTATE SPEED OF 65 MPH, THE GLASS COULD HAVE ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND KILLED ME! I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT CHRYSLER GAVE A 10 YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY TO OWNERS OF 2005 CROSSFIRES WITH THE SAME ISSUE! I DEMAND NOT ONLY AN APOLOGY FROM CHRYSLER ALONG WITH A NO CHARGE REPAIR OF THIS CONDITION, BUT ALSO THE SAME TREATMENT 2005 OWNERS RECEIVED, THE 10 YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
REAR WINDSHEILD BECAME UNGLUED FROM MY CONVERTABLE TOP. CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE. THEY SET AN APPOINTMENT WITH A LOCAL DEALER TO CHECK OUT. THEY TOLD ME NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME TO COVER MY PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT IN 2005 THEY COVERED THEM BUT ONLY THAT YEAR. ALL TOPS ARE MADE THE SAME REGUARDLESS OF YEAR. THEY TOLD ME ONLY SOME STATES IT WAS COVERED FOR 2005. I AM NOW LIVING IN FLORIDA, WHICH IS ONE OF THOSE STATES. I FOUND FORAMS ONLINE WITH PLENTY OF COMPLANTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER WAS IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED.

REAR GLASS OF SOFTOP HAS COME LOOSE FROM MATERIAL. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE SINCE THE CAR ABLE TO BE DRIVEN SAFELY. 2005 CARS OF SAME MAKE AND MODEL HAS HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTEE PROVIDE TO IT, WITH MANY OWNERS RECEIVING FULL REPLACEMENT OF SOFT TOP AT NO COST TO THEM. THIS HAPPENDED WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, SITTING IN MY GARAGE, IN JACKSONVILLE FL. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR AND THIS CAR WAS DELIVERED IN WHAT 'CHRYSLER' HAS DEEEMED TO BE 'HOT WEATHER STATES' (FL) FROM THEIR 2005 REPLACEMENTS OF THE SAME EXACT ISSUE.

TAKATA RECALL - I HAVE CONTACTED NHTSA SEVERAL TIMES REGARDING A FIX OR EVEN A TEMPORARY FIX FOR MY VEHICLE YET I STILL CANNOT GET A RESPONSE. TAKATA AIRBAG: THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG CAN RUPTURE, RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER INDICATES THAT A REMEDY IS NOT AVAILABLE, AND HAS DISABLED THE AIRBAG, RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNDRIVEABLE WITHOUT PUTTING THE DRIVER AT UNACCEPTABLE RISK. DEALERSHIP INDICATES THAT THEY HAVE NO TIME FRAME FOR REPAIR, AS A SUITABLE REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE RESOLVED.
WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A BANG IN THE BACK AND SUDDEN CHANGE OF AIR IN THE CABIN - REAR WINDOW IN MY 2007 ROADSTER SEPARATED FROM THE TOP AND FELL INSIDE - THE ONLY THING THAT PREVENTED IT FROM HITTING ME IN THE HEAD WAS THE ELECTRIC WIRE (DEFROSTER) THAT WINDOW IS ATTACHED TO. I HAD TO GO BELOW SPEED LIMIT TO MAKE IT HOME SAFELY. CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AND IT WOULD COST OVER $1,500 TO GET IT REPLACED, BUT TOPS ARE ON BACK ORDER RIGHT NOW AND IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS TO GET IT IN. AFTER RESEARCH - SEEMS UNFAIR THAT A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT ALL OWNERS OF THIS CAR FACE WAS NOT ADDRESSED BY THE COMPANY.

I OWN TWO CROSSFIRE CONVERTIBLES; A 2005 AND 2007. IN 2010 MY GLASS FELL OUT OF MY REAR TOP IN THE 2005 CROSSFIRE AT THE AIRPORT . WHEN I GOT BACK IT HAD FALLEN COMPLETELY OUT EXCEPT FOR THE CORD CONNECTING THE DEFOGGER. THIS DAMAGED A COMPUTER PART WHICH COST OVER $1000 IN THE TRUCK FROM WATER. ANYWAY IN JULY OF 2014 THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY 2007 CROSSFIRE CONVERTIBLE. OVER A PERIOD OF A FEW DAYS THE REAR GLASS JUST FELL COMPLETELY OUT. THE GLUE JUST GAVE WAY. ( WHAT EINSTEIN THOUGHT ANY GLUE WOULD HOLD A HEAVY PLATE GLASS WINDOW TO CANVAS ANYWAY). BOTH OF THESES CARS HAVE BEEN ONLY GARAGE KEPT. ANYHOW I TOOK THE CAR TO CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $2540 TO GET A NEW TOP EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER INSURANCE PROTECTION. THE PLAN APPARENTLY DID NOT COVER THE TOP BECAUSE IT WAS CONSIDERED UPHOLSTERY. I PROCEEDED TO TELL THEM THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE 2005. WELL BEHOLD TO MY DELIGHT THERE WAS SO MANY COMPLAINS ON THE 2005 TOP CHRYSLER HAD PUT AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 OR 10 YEARS. THE 2005 HAD ONLY 40,000 MILES PUT I HAD PURCHASED IN JULY OF 2004 SO I HAD JUST UNDER A MONTH LEFT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SO BY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE 2007 I GOT A NEW TOP ON THE 2005. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD I NOTICED A LOT OF ROAD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR AREA AND FOUND THAT THE REAR WINDOW GLASS WAS COMING DETACHED FROM THE TOP FABRICK. OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS THE WINDOW AND ALMOST COMPLETELY COME APART FROM THE TOP. I HAVE FOUND THAT CHRYSLER HAS OFFERED THROUGH THEIR TSB-23035-11 REVA SERVICE BULLETIN TO COVER THIS PROBLEM ON 2005 MODELS UP TO TEN YEARS OR 100,000 MILES. MY PROBLEM IS IDENTICAL TO THE 2005 AND I ONLY HAVE ABOUT 57,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE BUT THEIR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CENTER ONLY REFERED ME TO THE DEALER WHO HAS STATED THAT THE TOP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1650 TO ME WITH NO ASSISTANCE FROM CHRYSLER. ONE DAY, WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED, I NOTICED THE REAR WINDOW GLASS WAS FALLING OFF OF THE CONVERTIBLE TOP.THE GLUE THAT HELD THE GLASS WINDOW IN PLACE HAD COMPLETELY FAILED. *TR
WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 05/20/13. THE LIGHT THAT WARNS OF AN AIR BAG PROBLEM WAS ON. WE TOOK IT TO FEENY CHRYSLER,DODGE JEEP IN GAYLORD MICHIGAN ON 06/10/13. THEY FOUND THAT MICE HAD CHEWED SOME OF THE WIRES. THEY REPAIRED THE WIRES AND REMOVED SOME MOUSE NESTS THAT THEY FOUND. HOWEVER THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND THEY SAID WE NEEDED A NEW AIR BAG MODULE. WE DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF AGAIN ON 06/26/14 TO HAVE THEM CHECK THE AIR BAG LIGHT AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY PUT A NEW MODULE IN AND THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON, INDICATING THAT THERE WAS NO COMMUNICATION TO THE MODULE. SO, THEY ORDERED ANOTHER MODULE AND INSTALLED IT. WHEN THAT ONE HAD THE SAME RESULT,(THE MODULE NOT COMMUNICATING), THEY CALLED CHRYSLER FOR HELP. THEY THEN WENT INTO THE DASHBOARD AND FOUND A PINCHED WIRE, FIXED THAT AND NOW EVERYTHING WORKS. MY POINT IS, IT WAS A MANUFACTURING ERROR ( A PINCHED WIRE) CREATING A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM FOR THE OWNER. THE PREVIOUS OWNER TOLD US THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON WHEN SHE BOUGHT IT IN 2011. AT THAT TIME IT WAS STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY AND I THINK IT SHOULD STILL BE COVERED NOW BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN SPITE OF THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE FACT THAT IT ONLY HAS 38333 MILES ON IT NOW. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

CHRYSLER TOLD ME I HAD TO TAKE IT TO AN UPHOLSTERY SHOP WITH WOULD COST ME $750 - $1400 FOR A NEW TOP. I USED 3M WINDOW WELD AND IT HELD FOR A WHILE BUT THEN BEGAN TO SEPARATE AGAIN. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAS STARTED TO SEPARATE. I WAS TOLD THAT A NEW TOP WOULD LAST 1-2 YEARS FOR OF COURSE $1400. I STILL SEE NO RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT. THE PROBLEM STARTED IN 2012.
