THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCKSPRING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

THIS VEHICLE HAS FLAWED SEATBELTS. IT UNHOOKED DURING THE CRASH AND FLEW IN THE AIR, LANDED IN THE SQUAREPANTS FAMILY YARD THEN CAME BACK UP AND LANDED ON A 1995 PLYMOUTH MAGIC WAGON THAT ROLLED AWAY AT PRINCIPAL BROWN'S HOUSE. *TR
2000 CHRYSLER MINIVAN " CLOCK SPRING RECALL #D17 " I WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO KNOW THAT CHRYSLER CORPORATION IS NOT FOLLOWING THROUGH THIS SAFETY RECALL PROPERLY I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HAVE MY VAN 'S CLOCK SPRING RECALL DONE FOR THE LAST 5 MONTHS AND THE DEALERSHIP KEES TELLING ME THAT THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER I CONTACTED A FEW DEALERSHIPS AND THEY ALL TELL ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER ,NOW MY SELF AND 100'S OF THOUSANDS OF OTHER CHRYSLER MINIVAN OWNERS ARE DRIVING AROUND WITH "NO HORN AND A INOPERATIVE AIR BAG" WHICH IS NOT SAFE AT ALL MY VEHICLE WILL NOT EVEN PASS THE STATE INSPECTION DUE TO THIS CONDITION PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS. *TR
1) DRIVING, AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IS WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE 2)SOMETHING BROKE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. NOW NOTHING WORKS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE INDICATOR REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V480000 (AIR BAGS) WAS RELATED TO THE AIR BAG CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT A DIAGNOSTIC MUST BE PERFORMED TO WARRANT THE RECALL DEFECT REPAIR. THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST COST $90. THE CONTACT WAS DISPLEASED TO KNOW THAT THERE WAS A COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL DEFECT REMEDY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHENEVER THE CONTACT DEPRESSES THE BRAKE PEDAL, HER CHILD'S SEAT BELT UNBUCKLES. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED BECAUSE HER CHILD DID NOT WEIGH ENOUGH. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT AFTER 50 MPH, THE SEAT BELT WOULD LOCK AUTOMATICALLY. IF SHE TRAVELS BELOW 40 MPH, THE SEAT BELTS WOULD UNLOCK DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE CHILD. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO INSTALL A TETHER STRAP, BUT SHE ALREADY HAD ONE IN THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 85,000.
WE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OF THE SEAT BELTS COMING UNLATCHED FOR NO APPARENT REASON, OR SEEMING TO BE LATCHED CORRECTLY AND THEN FINDING OUT MILES LATER THAT IT POPS OUT AND MAYBE WASN'T LATCHED CORRECTLY IN THE FIRST PLACE. I HAVE 4 CHILDREN, RANGING IN AGE 2-11, AND WE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ALL OF THE SEATS. I HAVE ALSO READ ONLINE WHILE INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE, THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND THAT DEATH HAS OCCURRED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL OF THESE SEAT BELTS WHEN THEY ARE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE? I AM REQUESTING THAT YOU, DAIMLER CHRYSLER, REPLACE ALL OF THE SEAT BELTS IN THE CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY OWNED BY US, LISTED ABOVE, FREE OF CHARGE, TO SHOW YOUR GOOD WILL IN THIS SITUATION. IT WOULD BE DISASTROUS FOR THIS ISSUE OF THE SEAT BELT UNLATCHING ITSELF IN A WRECK TO HAPPEN AGAIN AND LEAVE US WITH AN INJURED OR DEAD CHILD OR ADULT. I TOOK MY 2000 CHRYSLER MINI VAN TO THE CONYER, GA DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHY MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND MY HORN STOPPED WORKING AND I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MAN THAT I WOULD BE CHARGE $89.00 JUST FOR THEM TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. I JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH ALL MINI VANS DATING BACK SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE MY HORN IN MY VAN WASN'T WORKING. TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE PURCHASE A 2000 CHRYSLER LH MARCH IN 2006. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A SPLIT IN THE DASH BOARD OVER THE AIRBAG DOOR ON PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO OWNER OF DEALERSHIP ONE MONTH LATER BECAUSE THE REPAIR ON DASH BOARD SPLIT OPEN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD ONLY REPAIR AND NOT REPLACE THE DASH BOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON 11/30/06 HIS VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT HIS VEHICLE ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. CONTACT HAD HIS INSURANCE ADJUSTER LOOK AT VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD BY THE ADJUSTER THAT THE DASH BOARD IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE ADJUSTER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE DASHBOARD COULD NOT BE PATCH OVER THE AIRBAG DOORS. THE CONTACT SAID THAT INSURANCE THE ADJUSTER SAID THAT PIECES OF PAINT AND PUTTING COULD COME OFF INTO PASSENGERS FACE AND EYES.

APRIL 10, 2005 I WAS DRIVE MY CAR WITH MY DAUGHTER AND GIRL FRIEND IN THE CAR AND WE START TO SMELL SOME SMOKE FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. WHERE MY DAUGHTER WAS AT . THE CAR STARTED TO CATCH ON FIRE. WHEN ME AND MY GIRLFRIEND GOT OUT OF THE CAR THE FLAMES FLEW PASS MY DAUGHTER EAR. SO I RUSH TO GET HER OUT OF THE BACK SET. SHE WAS NOT HE HEART. BUT I WAS VERY UPSET ABOUT A CAR THAT JUST CATCHES ON FIRE FOR NO REASON . MY INSURE ADJUSTER SAID IT WAS CAUSE BY MY REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELT. THINK THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT MATTER . THE AIR BAG LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. THE DRIVER NOTICED WHILE PRESSING THE HORN IT HAD NO SOUND. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB

WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. IT WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH WAS MOVING AT 60 MPH. HOWEVER, UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER HAD RECEIVED A LETTER OF RECALL FOR THE CLOCK SPRING THE VERY SAME DAY. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. ON THE SAME DAY, CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL FOR CLOCK SPRING. *AK
THE CLOCK SPRING LOST THE CONNECTION TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, HORN, AIR BAGS, AND CRUISE CONTROL BECOME INOPERABLE.*AK
