TL -THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE REAR LIFT GATE WAS OPENED, IT ABRUPTLY CLOSED ON THE CONTACT INDEPENDENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT BECAME PINNED BETWEEN THE LIFT GATE AND THE VEHICLE AND AS A RESULT, SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000. KMJ UPDATED 01/05/13*LJ
DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE, THE WARNING "DING" WENT OFF AS IF A DOOR WAS OPEN, THEN THE GAUGES STARTED TO SWEEP ERRATICALLY, AT THE SAME TIME SEVERAL DASHBOARD LIGHTS FLASHED ON AND OFF. THE ODOMETER AND PRDNL LIGHTS FLICKER, AS WELL AS THE HEAD LIGHTS. IT CONTINUED TO HAPPEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT IS MORE FREQUENT WHEN RAINING AND WHEN I ACCELERATE, PULLING ON THE ENGINE. THE HEADLIGHTS, ODOMETER, AND PRNDL FLICKER AT AN IDLE. IF IT BEGINS THE HAPPEN, I CAN STOP THE VAN, SHUT IT OFF, THEN RESTART IT AND THIS USUALLY SOLVES THE PROBLEM. I HAVE CHECKED THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS, REPLACED THE BATTERY, NONE OF THESE HAS RESOLVED THIS PROBLEM. AS I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET, I SEE THIS AS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2005 DODGE/CHRYSLER VANS. SOME REPORT STALLING, WHICH CAN BE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. MINE HAS NOT DONE THAT YET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S SIDE TAIL LIGHTS FAILED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WATER HAD ENTERED THE TAIL LIGHTS. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE BULBS AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BULB SOCKETS WERE MELTED AND BURNED. IN ADDITION, THE REAR POWER WINDOWS ALSO FAILED. THE DOME LIGHT ALSO FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS IN LAST 3 WEEKS WHERE ALL INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTING FLICKER OR PULSATE. OVER THE PAST YEAR I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED TOTAL LOSS OF EXTERIOR LIGHTING BUT ONLY NOTICED IT WHEN PARKING OR AT LOWER SPEEDS WITHOUT CAUSING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENTS. ON EACH OF THE INCIDENTS I WAS ABLE TO TOGGLE THE LIGHT SWITCH SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS ABLE TO RE-ACTIVATE THE LIGHTS. THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE SEPARATED BY WEEKS BETWEEN INCIDENTS AND IT HASN'T OCCURRED FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. THE FLICKERING IS A NEW ISSUE AND SOME ON-LINE RESEARCH TO THE FLICKERING LED ME TO THIS. *TR
OVERHEAD LIGHTS IN CONSOLE WENT OUT ONE AT A TIME (ONE HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED WITHIN 1ST YR.). I WENT IN TO BUY REPLACEMENT BULBS AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE DESIGN HAS CHANGED AND PART OF THE PLASTIC HAS TO BE TRIMMED TO MAKE IT FIT. THEY PUT THE BULBS IN AND IT STILL DIDN'T WORK. THEY SAID THE WIRING MUST HAVE MELTED SO YOU NEED TO ORDER THE ENTIRE OVERHEAD CONSOLE. AFTER HEARING THIS I WONDERED WHY THERE HAD NOT BEEN A RECALL - WIRING BURNED? AND, IT SOUNDED AS THOUGH THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM, I WAS NOT THE FIRST. MY HUSBAND LOOKED AT IT TODAY AND HE GOT THE LIGHT TO WORK BUT NOT WITH THE SWITCH. IT IS GETTING POWER BUT IT WON'T OPERATE THE BULB. THEY HAD SAID PART OF THE PLASTIC ON THE BULBS MELT. ONCE AGAIN, MELTING BULB BASE NOT A RECALL ISSUE? CHRYSLER TOLD ME THE DEALERSHIP NEEDS TO TROUBLESHOOT TO FIND THE PROBLEM - WITH ME PAYING $92.50/HR.! THERE ARE SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING WHICH I FOUND ON THE INTERNET - LOTS OF BULBS HAVING TO BE REPLACED AND SINCE THEY "REDESIGNED" THE BULBS THE DO NOT WORK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. UPON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT WAS UNABLE TO BE ADJUSTED. THE CONTACT USED A WHEELCHAIR AND NEEDED THE SEAT TO ADJUST TO ENSURE SAFE DRIVING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SCHUMACHER CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF DELRAY (2102 FEDERAL HWY, SUITE A, DELRAY BEACH, FL 33483, (561) 935-4210) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD ORDER A NEW SEAT AND WOULD NOTIFY THE CONTACT WHEN IT BECAME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO RECEIVE AN UPDATE REGARDING THIS MATTER, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY NO LONGER MADE THE SEATS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS HE NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE FAILURE WAS OF THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE BY REPROGRAMMING THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 99,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY FAMILY TO SCHOOL IN THE MORNING IN MY CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY, MY SON WAS SITTING IN THE BACK RIGHT SIDE SEAT IN HIS HIGH BACK BOOSTER. WHEN I BEGAN TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN HIS SEAT RELEASED FROM THE CLAMPS AT THE BOTTOM AND WENT BACKWARDS, MAKING THE CHAIR GO INTO THE BACK TRUNK SPACE OF THE VAN.. WE HAVE STOW AND GO SEATING SO THE SEATS CAN MOVE TO BE STOWED. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT HIS SEAT WAS PROPERLY LATCHED, I HAD JUST CLEANED THE VAN AND RECHECKED ALL THE SEATS. I WAS ABLE TO RELATCH HIS SEAT BUT I WILL NOT BE USING THAT BACK SEAT IN THE FUTURE. IT SEEMS THAT WHEN I WAS STOPPING HIS LATCH FAILED AND WAS NOT ABLE TO HOLD THE SEAT INTO PLACE. *TR
WHEN DRIVING AN A CONSISTENT CRUISING SPEED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME I WILL START TO BRAKE OR SLOW DOWN AND THE DASHBOARD INCLUDING ALL GAGES, LIGHTS AND RADIO WILL LOOSE POWER AND FLICKER ON AND OFF. SOMETIMES THEY WILL STAY OFF AND OTHER TIMES AFTER FLICKERING FOR 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES THEN THEY WILL START TO OPERATE PROPERLY UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN OR BRAKE. SEVERAL TIME IT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO LOOSE POWER FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND THEN START BACK UP.
THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR MANY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY - POWERLOCKS STOP WORKING, MUST PULL THE IOD FUSE AND RESET TO FIX IT AND IT ONLY FIXES IT FOR A FEW DAYS. DASH LIGHTS FLICKERING, GAUGES JUMPING. HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF DURING DRIVING AT NIGHT. TRANSMISSION SHORTLY DISENGAGED. DANGEROUS SITUATION! CHRYSLER CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. NHTSA CASE EA11010 IS OPEN. NEED URGENT SUPPORT. *TR
HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ALL GO ON, THEN THE GAUGES STOP WORKING, THE TRIP COMPUTER STOPS FAILS, THE LIGHTS FLICKER HIGH TO LOW OR LOW TO HIGH BEAM AND CAN'T BE CHANGED SOMETIMESTHE ENGINE STOPS RUNNING WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AT 25-75 MPH! THE FIRST INDICATOR SEEMS THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AS BEING "OFF". SOMETIMES THE LIGHTS & GAUGES GO BACK TO NORMAL. A GUARANTEED SHORT-TERM FIX IS TO REMOVE THE BATTERY TO RESET THE BATTERY BUTTON UNDER THE BATTERY, OR TAKE THE POSITIVE TERMINAL OFF & GROUND IT AGAINST AN EXPOSED BOLT. MANY SEEM TO HAVE BEEN FOOLED INTO BUYING A NEW BATTERY, ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM RE-ARISE, INADVERTENTLY "FIXED" WHEN THE A NEW BATTERY, BUT JUST LIFTING THE OLD BATTERY A LITTLE WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME SHORT-TERM TRICK. THE SEQUENCE OF FAILURE SEEMS TO BE (RAIN INFLUENCED?): AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON, LIGHTS FLICKER, ALL GAUGES & GEAR POSITION INDICATORS LIGHT UP, SPEEDO & TACH PULSE THEN FAIL, THEN YOU CAN JUST DRIVE WITH ALL WARNING LIGHTS LIT -NO TACH OR SPEEDO...THEN EVERY THING RESETS IN 10 SECONDS TO 10 MINUTES, OR, DASH LIGHTS GO OUT THEN THE ENGINE QUITS, LEAVING YOU DRIVING A POWERLESS ROLLING BRICK IN TRAFFIC, FIGHTING THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT POWER STEERING, HAVING ONLY INERTIA (IF YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO HAVE THROWN THE VAN INTO NEUTRAL) TO COAST OFF THE ROAD, THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, ETC. OUR DEALERSHIP'S DIAGNOSIS WAS A "BAD INSTRUMENT CLUSTER" - HARDLY, AS I DON'T SEE HOW DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY WILL INSTANTLY "FIX" THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR A WHILE, OR HOW THE CLUSTER WILL AFFECT SWITCHING BETWEEN HIGH & LOW BEAMS, OR KILL THE ENGINE AFTER A SEQUENCE OF EVENTS. THIS IS A WELL KNOW PROGRESSIVELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, OF FAILURE LEADING TO SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THERE ARE MANY, MANY ELECTRICAL COMPLAINTS RELATING TO ELECTRICAL FAILURES REGARDING LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY AND ENGINE POWER. *TR
HAD JUST FILLED GAS TANK AND PULLED OUT OF GAS STATION INTO TRAFFIC. VAN BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND STALLED IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. AFTER THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES FIGURED OUT NOT TO FILL THE TANK ALL THE WAY. A COUPLE OF TIMES ALMOST GOT HIT FROM THE REAR. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30PM ON JUNE 29, 2012, OUR 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY THAT WE PURCHASED ON JUNE 11, 2012 FROM A DEALERSHIP WAS PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION OUTSIDE THE HOUSE. UPON INVESTIGATING, WE FOUND THE REAR WINDSHIELD OF THE MINIVAN WAS SHATTERED AND HAD EXPLODED OUT. ASSUMING IT WAS VANDALISM, WE NOTIFIED POLICE TO FILE A REPORT, BUT THE POLICE WOULD NOT FILE A REPORT BECAUSE THEY WERE CERTAIN THE WINDOW BLOWING OUT HAD BEEN CAUSED BY PRESSURE CHANGE DUE TO TEMPERATURE. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE ON JUNE 29 WAS 94 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT IN NORTHEAST OHIO. THE VAN WAS PARKED IN THE SHADE ALL DAY UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 8:30PM, WHEN I DROVE IT WITH THE FRONT WINDOWS DOWN, THEREBY CAUSING THE INTERIOR TEMPERATURE TO COOL TO MATCH THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE, WHICH WAS 75 DEGREES F AT THAT TIME. AT ABOUT 9PM, I PARKED THE MINIVAN IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE WINDOWS UP AND AT AROUND 11:30, THE EXPLOSION HAPPENED WITH THE TEMPERATURE AT 69 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF VANDALISM OR BREAK-IN. WE BEGUN INVESTIGATING IMMEDIATELY AFTER WE HEARD THE EXPLOSION OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE PRIMARY HOLE IN THE WINDOW WAS IN THE UPPER RIGHT REGION, WITH THE ENTIRETY OF THE PANE SHATTERED AND PIECES WERE STILL IN PLACE THOUGH SHATTERED. THE EDGES OF THE ENTIRE WINDOW WERE BULGING, AS IF SOME KIND OF PRESSURE HAD FORCED THE GLASS OUTWARD. THERE WAS SMALL GLASS FRAGMENTS ALL OVER THE DRIVEWAY AND REAR STORAGE, INCLUDING SOME IN THE CHILD SEATS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS WHILE TRAVELING 70MPH. HIGH BEAMS WORKED ONLY IF LEVER WAS HELD DOWN, AND I HAD TO DRIVE LIKE THIS FOR AN HOUR. OVER THE PAST 2-3 YEARS THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FLICKER OR TURN OFF, BUT I COULD USUALLY RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BY TOGGLING THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES. THIS WOULD OCCUR PERIODICALLY, WITH SEVERAL MONTHS IN BETWEEN INCIDENTS. IN MAY AND JUNE OF THIS YEAR, THE PROBLEM BEGAN TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY, WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS FINALLY OCCURRING. MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE FRONT HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE 6-15-12 AND THE HEADLIGHTS OPERATED FINE UNTIL THIS PAST WEEK- 7-11-12, WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO FLICKER AGAIN AND WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ONLY 5MPH IN PARKING GARAGE. TOGGLING THE ON/OFF SWITCH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AND HEADLIGHTS CAME ON.
IN THE RAIN OR WHEN THERE IS STANDING WATER ON THE ROAD, THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AT LOWER SPEEDS, AND OFTEN WHILE LOWING DOWN OR TURNING. THE POWER STEERING WILL STOP TEMPORARILY AND YOU LOSE ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE AS WELL WHILE SHE WAS TURNING IN TRAFFIC. THE POWER STEERING WILL START WORKING AGAIN USUALLY IN LESS THAN A MINUTE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS, AS YOU HAVE NO CONTROL. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS STANDING WATER IN THE ROAD DURING OR JUST AFTER MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE CHRYSLER FORUMS. PLEASE ADVISE IS ANYTHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS DEFECT? *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT AND NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT TURN ON WHEN THE SWITCH WAS ACTIVATED. TOGGLING THE SWITCH BACK AND FORTH A FEW TIMES, TURNED THEM ON. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT, THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 2 TIMES PER WEEK. THE LIGHTS WILL USUALLY TURN ON WHEN SWITCHING THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF, BUT THE PAST TWO DAYS THEY HAVE NOT TURNED ON AT ALL. THE PARKING LIGHTS AND HIGHBEAMS STILL WORK, BUT NOT THE MAIN DRIVING LIGHTS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT APPEAR TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. *TR
MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN GAUGES HAVE BEEN ERRATIC WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. MY RADIO TURNS ON AND OFF, MY DASH GAUGES ARE JUMPING ALL OVER THE PLACE, MY ENGINE LIGHT IT ON AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. I EVEN TOOK A VIDEO OF WHAT IT WAS DOING, BECAUSE THEY DEALER NEVER WANTS TO FIX IT. THEY STILL SAY IT IS FINE. NOW IT IS STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I AM DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WITH MY 2 CHILDREN AND THE DEALER SAYS IT IS FINE!!! WHEN I GET IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THEY SAY MY CAR IS FINE, CHRYSLER IS GONG TO HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM. *TR
SINCE THIS PAST SUMMER OUR VAN HAS DEMONSTRATED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS FLICKERING OF LIGHT, CLUSTER GAUGES, AND THE RADIO TURNS ON AND OFF; DANGEROUS AS SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE BECOME UNREADABLE; RESEARCHED ONLINE AND MANY PEOPLE HAVING SAME ISSUE; SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE PAYING A LOT OF MONEY TO HAVE FIXED BUT PROBLEMS STILL PERSIST; THIS IS AN ISSUE CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL LIKE THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL WAS ENGAGED, THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WOULD ACTIVATE INSTEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,000. *TR
MY HEADLIGHTS STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS IN THE WINTER. FIRST, I NOTICED THAT THEY FLICKERED WHEN I HIT A BUMP, AND THEN WENT COMPLETELY OFF. IF I PUT ON THE BRIGHTS THEY WOULD WORK. IT NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN UNTIL RECENTLY. THEY WENT COMPLETELY OFF FOR THE ENTIRE 2 HOUR DRIVE. I HAD TO HOLD THE BRIGHTS ON TO SEE. NOW THEY DON'T EVEN COME ON AT ALL EXCEPT FOR THE BRIGHTS. I STOPPED AT CHRYSLER AND HE SEEMED TO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AFTER SO MANY COMPLAINTS. ITS DANGEROUS. *TR
HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT TURN ON. REPEATED TURNING OFF & ON OF HEADLIGHT SWITCH (5 TO 10 ITMES) EVENTUALLY WORKS. HOWEVER, USING THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER ON THE COLUMN TO HOLD THE BRIGHTS ON DOES RESULT IN BRIGHTS ONLY - IF YOU HOLD THE LEVER CONTINUOUSLY. NHTSA EA11010 FROM SEPTEMBER OF 2011 SAYS DEFECT IS BEING INVESTIGATED. HOW MUCH TIME IS NEEDED FOR A DIAGNOSIS? *TR

CALLED DEALER AND HE TELLS ME THAT THERE ARE NO PARTS NOW TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OF THE PRIOR 2-3 YEARS. WE BOUGHT THE VAN USED AND THE PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE PURCHASED. IN THE RAIN OR WHEN THERE IS STANDING WATER ON THE ROAD, THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AT LOWER SPEEDS, AND OFTEN WHILE LOWING DOWN OR TURNING. THE POWER STEERING WILL STOP TEMPORARILY AND YOU LOSE ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE TWICE WHILE SHE WAS TURNING IN TRAFFIC.
