ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE. DASHBOARD FLICKERS ON AND OFF WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS. HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOR MONTHS AND NO ONE AT CHRYSLER WILL SAY ANYTHING IS WRONG. THEY WON'T EVEN DRIVE IN THE VAN TO SEE IT DO IT. *TR
FIVE DIFFERENT TIMES WE HAVE HAD THE SENSOR FOR THE AIRBAGS NEED TO BE REPLACED. WE WERE PART OF A RECALL ON THE OUTER ONE, BUT THIS IS THE ONE THAT IS AFFECTED BY THE DRIVER'S SEAT BEING MOVED. WE HAVE HAD THIS SAME SENSOR "FIXED" FOUR TIMES. EACH TIME WE PAY AND THEN IT BREAKS AGAIN. IT BEGINS SENDING A SIGNAL THAT IT IS OUT WHEN MOVING THE DRIVER'S SEAT BUT WILL GO BACK OFF IF YOU MOVE THE SEAT AGAIN. THIS GOES ON FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN THE SENSOR GOES BAD PERMANENTLY. WE ARE NOW DRIVING YET AGAIN WITHOUT AIRBAGS. WE HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT WE CAN PAY YET AGAIN TO HAVE IT FIXED AND PERHAPS THEY CAN SEND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO FIX IT PERMANENTLY. OR, WE CAN GET A DEAL ON A NEW CAR. WE HAVE ALREADY PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED MORE THAN ONCE AND WE BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX IT. THUS WE ARE STUCK WITH AN UNSAFE CAR TO DRIVE OUR CHILDREN IN. *TR
MY FAMILY AND I EXPERIENCE A NEAR FATAL ACCIDENT WHEN A DOUGLAS/GOODYEAR XTRA TRAC TIRE LITERALLY EXPLODED OFF OF THE RIM OF OUR CAR. THE RESULT WAS THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT OF THE TIRE EXCEPT FOR A VERY SMALL PIECE OF RUBBER ON EITHER SIDE OF THE RIM. (IHAVE PICTURES OF THE BLOWN TIRE). I RETURNED TO WALMART WHERE I PURCHASED THIS TIRE. AT FIRST THE STORE LOOKED AT WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE TIRE AND SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THEN WHEN I INFORMED THEM THAT I PURCHASED THIS TIRE FROM THEM AT THAT STORE, A SALESPERSON CHUCKLED AND REMARKED WAS IT AN XTRA TRAC TIRE I SAID YES. ANOTHER MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THEY WOULD SELL ME ANOTHER XTRA TRAC TIRE. I DECLINED THE OFFER AND TOOK BY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIRE (DOUGLAS/GOODYEAR TIRE) THAT BLEW. IN EACH PREVIOUS INSTANCE THE TIRE SHREDDED. IN THIS INSTANCE THE TIRE EXPLODED. IN EACH INSTANCE THE TIRE HAD NOT REACHED THE WARRANTED MILEAGE THAT THE TIRE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD FOR. WHAT IS DISTURBING IS THAT WALMART IS STILL SELLING THIS DEFECTIVE TIRE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITH THIS KNOWN DEFECT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN&COUNTRY MINIVAN WITH $32K MILES. I AM LOOKING AT MY SECOND BRAKE JOB. THIS IS MY 3RD MINIVAN - THE TWO I OWNED PREVIOUSLY BRAKES LASTED 50K MILES OR MORE!!!!!!! IS THIS JUST A WAY FOR CHRYSLER REPAIR SHOPS TO MAKE MORE MONEY???? PS I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION IS FOR THE BRAKES MADE BY CHRYSLER - I JUST KNOW THEY STINK!!! *TR
INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF TURN SIGNALS, SOMETIMES WHEN TURN TO LEFT INDICATOR BLINKS TO RIGHT. *TR
SUMMARY: POTENTIAL FAILURE OF EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE ON 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVANS DUE TO INCORRECT ROUTING OF CABLE ALONGSIDE REAR SUSPENSION LINK. DETAIL: I WAS DOING SOME MAINTENANCE ON OUR '05 T&C TOURING THE OTHER DAY WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE IS RUBBING ON ONE OF THE VERTICAL REAR SUSPENSION LINKS. IT HAS WORN THROUGH THE OUTER SHEATH OF THE CABLE, AND THE CABLE ITSELF HAS BEEN EXPOSED. THAT CABLE IS VERY, VERY STIFF, AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS ROUTED THAT WAY AT THE FACTORY. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I WOULD RE-ROUTE IT TO GET IT AWAY FROM THAT SUSPENSION LINK. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT. ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE IN AN INQUIRY AT THE CHRYSLER MINIVAN FAN CLUB WEBSITE'S FORUMS WOULD INDICATE OTHER OWNERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM. WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS ON OUR 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY, THEY SOMETIMES WILL NOT COME ON AT ALL OR THEY WILL NOT TURN OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED JUST ABOUT ON A DAILY BASES. THERE HAS BEEN AT LEAST (2) OCCURRENCES WHEN THEY SHUT OFF SHORTLY AFTER STARTING TO DRIVE. THE ONLY THING THAT SEEMS TO FIX IT IS TURNING THEM ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY UNTIL IT CORRECTS ITS SELF. I HAVE HAD IT LOOKED BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM WHILE IN THE SHOP. *TR
HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT TURN ON, OR WILL NOT TURN OFF. MANY TIMES, YOU MUST TURN SWITCH ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY BEFORE LIGHTS WILL TURN ON. THEY ALSO WILL SOMETIMES NOT FULLY TURN OFF - YOU TURN OFF SWITCH, BUT PARKING LIGHTS WILL REMAIN ON, OR LIGHTS WILL APPEAR TO BE OFF, BUT WARNING CHIME WILL SOUND WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOORS. HAVE ALSO HAD LIGHTS TURN OFF SUDDENLY DURING OPERATION, LUCKILY NEVER AT NIGHT. *TR
HEADLIGHTS FREQUENTLY DON'T COME ON WHEN TURNED ON. SOMETIMES, IF I TURN THE SWITCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN, THEY WILL TURN ON. ALSO, THE HIGH LEVEL HEAD LIGHTS DON'T STAY ON UNLESS I HOLD THE LEVEL TO KEEP THEM ON. *TR
2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY POWER DOOR LOCKS INOPERATIVE. PULLING THE 20A IOD FUSE AND REINSERTING IT FIXES THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 3 OR LOCK/UNLOCKS OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER THAT THE LOCKS ARE BROKEN AGAIN. KIDS CAN OPEN THE DOOR WHILE IN MOTION BECAUSE THE DOOR DOES NOT LOCK AT THIS POINT. *TR
GAS PEDAL IS STICKING. IT SEEMS LIKE YOU HAVE TO PUSH DOWN HARDER ON THE PEDAL TO GET IT UNSTUCK. *TR
FILLED MY 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY WITH GAS AND WHEN I STARTED IT ACTED FUNNY, THEN AS I WAS DRIVING OFF IT ALMOST LOST POWER ON THE ROAD. IT "BOGGED DOWN", STUTTERED AND EVENTUALLY SEEMED AS THOUGH IT WOULD DIE OUT. I CONTINUED DRIVING SLOWLY AND IT SLOWLY SEEMED TO START RUNNING RIGHT. HOWEVER, IT HAS NOT BEEN THE SAME AND HAS PERIODS OF "BOGGING DOWN" AND LIKE IT HAS AN ISSUE TRYING TO GET POWER (OR GAS)WHEN I TRY ACCELERATING EVER SINCE I FILLED THE TANK. IT ALMOST SEEMS TO LOSE THE POWER. NO LIGHTS COME ON AND THE VAN HAS ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT. GLAD NO ONE WAS COMING FAST, I COULD'VE BEEN HIT JUST TRYING TO COME OUT THE GAS STATION!!! NOT SURE IF ITS THE FUEL INJECTORS OR GAS TANK ISSUES! A VERY SCARY SITUATION WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR WITH ME!! NOW IM AFRAID TO FILL IT ALL THE WAY AND TRY TO KEEP IT LOWER THEN 3/4 FILLED WHICH IS DIFFICULT TO DO! *TR
THE SENSORS FOR MY TPMS CORRODE AND BRAKE LETTING THE AIR OUT OF THE TIRES. I WENT TO REMOVE 2 OF THE VALVE STEM CAPS THIS PAST WEEKEND AND THE STEMS BROKE RIGHT OFF LETTING THE PRESSURE OUT OF THE TIRES. IN LOOKING ON LINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NUMEROUS OWNERS. SOME SIMPLY START LEAKING JUST FROM AGE AND CORROSION. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
OUR 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY'S AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON CONSISTENT WITH NHTSA 10V008000 AND CHRYSLER HAS INFORMED US THAT THEY ARE UNWILLING TO HONOR THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE REPAIRS UNDER THE RECALL UNTIL JUNE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THE ELECTRONIC LOCKING SYSTEM FAILED TO WORK ON ALL OF THE DOORS INCLUDING THE REAR SLIDING DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE HEAD LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY WORK. THEY STOPPED WORKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME. *TR
2005 CHRYSLER--TOWN & COUNTRY MINI-VAN / (3.8L) EVERY TIME THIS VEHICLE IS REFUELED THE ENGINE STUMBLES OR STALLS OUT 2 MINUTES AFTER RESTARTING. THIS IS EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC WHEN ATTEMPTING TO EXIT GAS STATIONS ADJACENT TO BUSY ROADS. THE "STUMBLING" OR STALLING OCCURS QUITE ABRUPTLY AND ALWAYS CAUSES TEMPORARY LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AS THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN. BASED ON NUMEROUS CAR BLOG SITES THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM ON 04 AND 05 CHRYSLER AND DODGE MINI-VANS. SOME CHRYSLER MECHANICS HAVE COMMENTED CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE SEEMS TO INVOLVE THE GAS TANK EMISSIONS PURGE VALVE SYSTEM, WHICH IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE FUEL TANK. THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. GIVEN THE NATURE OF THIS PROBLEM I BELIEVE GOVERNMENT EMISSIONS REGULATIONS AND OTHER SAFETY REGULATIONS SHOULD BE USED TO FORCE A MANUFACTURERS RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES TO REPLACE FAULT FUEL TANKS. *TR
MY 2005 TOWN & COUNTRY VAN BEGAN MAKING A HUMMING NOISE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MOVED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 52,000 MILES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY NUMEROUS PEOPLE THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IN A VEHICLE WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE.
HEADLIGHTS AND CONSOLE LIGHTS ON MY 2005 T&C GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. THEY COME BACK ON WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO. I HAD THE SWITCH CHECKED AND WAS FOUND TO BE WORKING OK. *TR
AFTER MY LAST 3 FILL-UPS, MY 2005 CHRYSLER T&C STALLS WITHIN ABOUT 30 SECONDS OF RE-START, USUALLY IN THE GAS STATIONS DRIVEWAY. THE SERVICE STATION INDICATED THE CAUSE TO BE THE ROLL-OVER VALVE AND THAT THE ENTIRE GAS TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. TYPICALLY GAS FUMES SHOULD BE SENT TO THE EVAPORATOR, BUT NOW LIQUID GAS IS GOING INTO IT. IF THE ROLL-OVER VALVE IS AT FAULT, I ASSUME THAT LIQUID GAS COULD BE SPILLED IF A ROLL-OVER DID OCCUR. WOULDN'T THIS BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULDN'T THE GOVERNMENT FORCE CHRYSLER TO PERFORM A SERVICE RECALL FOR THIS? ESTIMATED REPAIR CHARGE IS GOING TO BE AROUND $800. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) [XXX] I HAVE A CHRYSLER, TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING, 2005 MODEL, I MET WITH AN ACCIDENT ON 02/03/10 WHILE DRIVING TO WASHINGTON DC, MY TOURING IS TOTALLY DAMAGED IN THE FRONT, DAMAGES OVER $7,000.00, HOWEVER THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH CHRYSLER, BUT THEY HAVE BEEN STALLING ME FOR THE PAST MONTH. I STRONGLY URGE THAT THIS DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS BE INVESTIGATED AS IT COULD LEAD TO FATALITIES. *TR
AIR-BAG FAULT LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. DEALER SAYS THAT BOTH FRONT IMPACT SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION, TO THE TUNE OF $300! IT DOESN'T SEEM REASONABLE THAT AFTER 5 YEARS AND 62,000 A REQUIRED SAFETY DEVICE THIS IMPORTANT SHOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE DUE TO CORROSION. *TR
TWO YEARS AGO, FEBRUARY 2008, I HAD THE BODY CONTROL MODULE ON MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY REPLACED. THE VAN WAS A LITTLE OVER THREE YEARS OLD AND OUT OF WARRANTY. THE REPAIR COST $658. IT WAS REPLACED WITH A DEALER PART AT A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THIS PAST SATURDAY IT STARTED WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS IN 2008. IT WON'T START, THE DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK, AND IT DRAINS THE BATTERY. I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF OTHER VAN OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR

I OWN A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN. I NOTICED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FRONT CRASH SENSOR THAT DOESN'T START UNTIL JUNE, BUT MY AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ALREADY ILLUMINATED. IT STARTED LIGHTING UP A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. WHEN I CONTACTED MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, THEY DENIED ANY KNOWLEDGE OF A RECALL. I CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD THAT I COULD GET THE SENSOR FIXED RIGHT NOW, BUT IT WOULD HAVE TO BE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME $130 FOR DIAGNOSTICS, WHEN THEY SHOULD ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL. MY CONCERN IS THIS: IF (GOD FORBID) I HAPPEN TO BE IN A CRASH BETWEEN NOW AND JUNE, WHAT HAPPENS IF MY AIRBAG DOESN'T DEPLOY? CHRYSLER IS AWARE THAT MY SENSOR IS OUT AND IS DOING NOTHING. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR ENSURING THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT THREE MONTHS, BEFORE THE "OFFICIAL" RECALL BEGINS? I TRULY THINK THIS IS A SHAM THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT IS TAKING THEIR SWEET TIME IN COMING UP WITH A SOLUTION AND FIXING OUR DEFECTIVE VEHICLES.
INITIALLY, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY AFTER VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND RUNNING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, AND IT MAY TURN ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES DURING VEHICLE USE. AFTER VEHICLE PARKED AND RESTARTED (USUALLY NEXT DAY), WITHOUT ANY APPARENT REASON THE WARNING LIGHT WOULD THEN WORK CORRECTLY (I.E., DURING ENGINE START AND SYSTEM CHECKS, WARNING LIGHTS WOULD EXTINGUISH). AFTER A FEW MONTHS, THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ALSO STARTED TO MIMIC THE SAME ISSUE (INITIALLY LESS FREQUENT). WE CONTACTED DEALERSHIP TO ASK ABOUT POSSIBLE RECALL OR ISSUE. THEY INSPECTED IT AS PART OF SERVICE/WARRANTY APPT, NO PROBLEMS REPORTED TO BE FOUND. WE DID ASK IF THEY KNEW OF SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT THEY INDICATED NO. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER (EXTENDED WARRANTY) AND THEY ALSO SAID NO KNOWN ISSUES, IT WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE, AND ASKED IF PROBLEM POSSIBLY RELATED TO ANY ACCIDENT (BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT). THIS ISSUE HAS BECOME MORE TROUBLESOME AS THE WARNING LIGHTS NOW ACTIVATE MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY, AND THEN STAY ACTIVE MOST OR ENTIRE TIME VEHICLE IS ON AND EVEN CONTINUE TO LIGHT UP AFTER VEHICLE PARKED OVERNIGHT. WARNING LIGHTS MAY THEN TURN OFF FOR FEW DAYS, BUT WILL INVARIABLY LIGHT UP FOR NO APPARENT REASON. *TR

I CAN TURN THE SWITCH MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY USUALLY COME ON. AND NOW, THE STATE OF OHIO PASSED A LAW THAT IF YOU USE YOUR WIPERS, YOU MUST HAVE YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON. SO WHEN I GET A TICKET BECAUSE THEY SHUT OFF WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE IN DAYLIGHT HOURS, WHO PAYS MY FINE? I AM GOING TO GET IT REPAIRED THIS WEEK, BUT ITS STILL A DANGEROUS SITUATION UNTIL THEN! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED INTO THE DRIVE POSITION WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO RAPID SPEEDS AND CRASHED INTO THE FRONT END OF A VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO THE FRONT END OF A SECOND VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND CRASHED INTO TWO OTHER VEHICLES AND A BUS. THE POLICE WAS NOT AT THE SCENE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT INVESTIGATE THE VEHICLE. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITHIN THE THROTTLE, BRAKING OR ACCELERATOR LINKAGE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 40,000.
HEADLAMPS GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY. MOVEMENT OF HEADLAMP SWITCH WILL TURN THEM BACK ON, BUT, INTERIOR LIGHTS ARE DEAD WHEN OPENING DOOR AND OVERHEAD COMPUTER IS DEAD WHEN LIGHTS ARE ON. DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE HEADLAMPS AS IT COULD CAUSE A WRECK. READING ONLINE BLOGS THIS SEEMS TO BE A BAD PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 MODEL YEAR CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY'S AND DODGE CARAVAN'S. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GET KILLED FIRST TO WARRANT AN NHTSA INVESTIGATION? I DID A SEARCH ON INVESTIGATIONS FOR MY VEHICLE YEAR AND TYPE AND ONLY FOUND THE AIR BAG INVESTIGATIONS. THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH NOT ONLY MY YEAR BUT OTHER YEARS OF CHRYSLER MINI-VANS. IT NEEDS ATTENTION! *TR
THE AUTO LOCKS DON'T WORK ON MY 2005 CHRYSLER T&C. I HAVE HAD CONTINUAL PROBLEMS WITH THE AUTO-LOCKS NOT WORKING. I HAVE PULLED THE FUSE AND HAVE ALSO DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR SEVERAL HOURS AT A TIME TO "CORRECT". SOMETIMES THIS FIXES FOR SEVERAL DAYS, AND SOMETIMES FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. CURRENTLY EVEN AFTER "RESETTING" BY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY, THE DRIVERS SIDE SLIDING DOOR STILL WON'T AUTO LOCK/UNLOCK WHEN THE OTHER DOORS DO. ALSO, THE LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH ON THE PASSENGER DOOR DOES NOT LOCK/UNLOCK THE DOORS. I HAVE HEARD THERE IS A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE BCM THAT ADDRESSES THIS, BUT EVEN THAT IS NOT GUARANTEED TO TOTALLY FIX THE ISSUE. ALSO, I DON'T FEEL THAT AS IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE, THAT WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE SYSTEM UPDATED. *TR
WHEN VEHICLE IS IDLING OR BEING DRIVEN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, AND ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WILL BEGIN TO FLUCTUATE. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PROBLEM ONE CAN HEAR A SHORT BELL TONE COMING FROM THE DASH AREA. THE GAUGE NEEDLES MOVE FROM ONE EXTREME TO ANOTHER, AT IDLE OR LOW SPEED THE ENGINE WILL DIE LOOSING ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. AFTER APPROX 1-2 MINUTES THE VAN WILL RESET AND IT CAN BE RESTARTED. WHILE THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURRING THERE IS A STEADY CLICKING COMING FROM THE DASH AND IN THE FUSE PANEL. AT SPEEDS ABOVE APPROX 15 MPH AND ENGINE RPMS ABOVE 1750 THE ENGINE WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE BUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONTINUES TO FLUCTUATE. THIS VAN IS USED TO TRANSPORT A DISABLED PERSON. SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE SAFE TRANSPORTATION. THIS VAN IS NOT SAFE AND CANNOT BE RELIED UPON TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THE DEALERSHIP AND INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITIES SAY THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG EVEN WHEN THE DASH CLUSTER AND ALL OTHER COMPONENTS ARE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. AT THE REQUEST OF THE DEALER AND A REPAIR FACILITY I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR BUT NO CHANGE IN VANS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE.

IN OCTOBER 2008 MY LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN CUT AND WAS REPORTED TO POLICE. HOWEVER THEY WERE UNCERTAIN IF THAT WAS THE CASE AND I HAVE PICTURES OF THIS INCIDENT. IT WAS REPLACED AT THAT TIME AND AGAIN TODAY - ALMOST 14 MONTHS TO THE DAY LATER AND ABOUT 12,000 MILES LATER, THE VERY SAME BRAKE LINE BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND I CAME WITHIN INCHES OF REAR-ENDING SOMEONE. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE PROVIDER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IN HIS MIND IT IS A VERY BAD DESIGN AND A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. I AGAIN HAVE PICTURES AND THE PART IN QUESTION WITH ME. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VAN IT BEGAN SURGING, AS IF A FUEL LINE PROBLEM, AND THEN WOULD DIE AND EACH EVENT THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL. I HAD TO PARK THE VEHICLE IN A HOSPITAL PARKING LOT AND GET IT TOWED IN MORNING. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT MADE A VERY LOUD "CLANK" NOISE AS IF A ROD BROKE. RESULT IS A $5000.00 ENGINE REPLACEMENT DUE TO A FAULTY COMPUTER WHICH SENT ERRATIC SIGNALS TO CAM SENSOR. VEHICLE HAS 120,000 MILES....ALL COMMUTING AT GENTLE SPEEDS (WE HAVE AVERAGED 23-25 MPG SO IT IS OBVIOUS WE DRIVE SENSIBLY). WE HAVE BEEN RELIGIOUS ABOUT SERVICE.....AND CAN PROVE IT. LOSS OF POWER STEERING DEFINITELY SAFETY HAZARD. OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW. STEERING RACK SHOULD OUTLAST THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE AIR TEMPERATURE COMPLETELY DRIED OUT THE MOISTURE THAT ACCUMULATED INTERNALLY FROM THE RAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V192000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL: SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). A FEW DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR, WHILE DRIVING IN SEVERE RAINY CONDITIONS THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE RECALL REMEDY WAS INSUFFICIENT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY REFUSED TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A CHARGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED REGARDING THE FAILURE AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
WE HAVE A 2005 TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN WITH LOCKS THAT QUIT WORKING OFTEN. WE DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEY WORK AGAIN FOR A DAY OR TWO. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE FOR MANY REASONS. SOMETIMES THEY STOP WORKING AND YOU DON'T KNOW IT UNTIL YOU GET BACK IN YOUR CAR, THINKING THE WHOLE TIME YOUR CAR IS LOCKED AND IT IS NOT. ALSO, HAVING 3 CHILDREN RIDING IN A CAR WITH LOCKS THAT DON'T WORK IS VERY UNSAFE. I HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER WITH THE SAME MINIVAN AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, HOW IRONIC. AT 39,000 MILES, THE 2005 TOWN AND COUNTRY BEGAN STALLING FOLLOWING A FUEL FILLING. THIS STALLING OCCURRED AND STILL OCCURS FOLLOWING FUEL FILLING. THE VAN WAS TAKEN TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THAT THE ROLL-OVER VALVE ON THE FUEL TANK WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE REMEDY GIVEN WAS A FUEL TANK AND EVAPORATOR CANISTER REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $900. EVIDENTLY THE FAULTY VALVE CANNOT BE REPLACED INDEPENDENT OF THE FUEL TANK. INTERNET RESEARCH OF THIS ISSUE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMONLY REPORTED PROBLEM BY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY OWNERS. AS THE STALLING CAN OCCUR AS THE VEHICLE ENTERS A HIGHWAY, THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES. CHRYSLER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO REPAIR THE FAULTY VALVE ON THE TANKS. *KB
