CAR WENT CRAZY WITH LIGHTS FLASHING, WIPERS GOING AND THEN COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, WOULD NOT START BACK. *TR
VAN WAS PARKED WENT OUT TO RUN TO STORE WOULD NOT START. HAD NO POWER TO ANYTHING, NO WINDOWS, NO RADIO, NO INSTRUMENT PANEL, GAGES DON'T COME ON WHEN KEY IS ON. HAD BETTERY TESTED WAS FINE. CONTACTED DEALER THEY HAD NO IDEA. GOT VAN TO START WITH REMOTE STARTER BUT WHEN I PUT KEY THE KEY IN AND PUT TO ON VAN SHUTS OFF AND REFUSES TO START. CALLED CHRYSLER THEY HAD NO CLUE AND REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALER.PRIOR TO THIS THE VAN WAS RUNNING FINE. HAVE ONLY OWNED IT 4 MONTHS. SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND SEEMS TO BE ONGOING. YOU WOULD THINK THAT CHRYSLER WOULD DO A RECALL ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BUT WHO AM I. THIS IS THE FIRST CHRYSLER THAT I HAVE OWNED AND HAS PUT A BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH ABOUT OWNING ANOTHER SINCE THEY HAVE HAD NUMERIOUS COMPLAINTS AND FAIL TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE NOR DOES THE DEALER WANT TO SO THE NEXT STEP IS CONTACTING THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO INVESTIGATE. *TR
CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP SAID REAR BRAKES WERE AT 3 MILS AFTER ONLY 10000 MILES OF WEAR NOW ON 4/17/13 I AGAIN WAS TOLD THE REAR BRAKES WERE AT 3 MILS AFTER ONLY 12000 MILES OF WEAR THAT TO ME AND MANY BRAKE REPAIR SHOPS IS VERY ODD AND RIDICULOUS. *TR
WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT 20,000 MILES. NOW, AT 33,000 MILES THE REAR PADS AND ROTORS HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN! YET ALL I'VE READ IS THAT CHRYSLER IS ONLY PAYING $100 OF THE COST AND ONLY ON THE FRONT BRAKES. THERE ARE A MYRIAD OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS VERY PROBLEM ALL OVER THE INTERNET. PUSHED THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR KEY ON THE REMOTE. THE HORN STARTED BLOWING NON STOP. THE WINDSHIELD WIPES WERE MOVING WITH WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID SPRAYING NON STOP. THIS DIDN'T STOP BY PUSHING ANY KEY OR MANUALLY UNLOCKING THE VEHICLE OR STARTING THE VAN. WE HAD TO DISCONNECT AND CABLES FROM THE BATTERY TO GET IT TO STOP. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED AN HOUR LATER AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY, THE VAN DIDN'T START. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE DEFLATED AND THE STEM DISINTEGRATED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VALVE STEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000. *TR
WHEN WE USED THE REMOTE KEY TO UNLOCK OUR VAN THE ALARM SOUNDED, THE HORN KEEP BEEPING, THE WIPERS - BOTH FRONT AND BACK, STARTED, WIPER FLUID SPRAYED FROM BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK, THE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK AND THE LIGHTS STAYED ON. ONCE I GOT IN THE CAR ( USING A TRADITIONAL KEY INSIDE THE REMOTE ) I COULD NOT CONTROL ANY OF THE ABOVE. IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED ONLY TO START AGAIN WHEN I USED THE REMOTE TO LOCK THE CAR. THE BATTERY DIED AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A SHOP. A NEW BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND THE CAR COMPUTER RESET. I DROVE IT 5 MILES HOME AND PARKED IT. 3 HOURS LATER I WENT TO UNLOCK THE CAR AND THE ENTIRE PROCESS STARTED AGAIN - BOTH FRONT AND BACK WIPERS, LIGHTS ON, WIPER FLUID SPEWING ON BOTH WINDOWS, CAR ALARM AND LIGHTS FLASHING. AGAIN, I COULD NOT GET IN TO THE CAR AS IT REMAINED LOCKED. THE BATTERY HAD TO BE UNWIRED FOR THIS ALL TO STOP. THE CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO THE SHOP. THIS TIME WE FOUND OUT IT WAS THE TIPM ( TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE ). THE COST OF THIS IS OVER $700. OUR CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I AM FINDING OUT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY 2008 MODEL. IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT COULD BE AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD ON THE ROAD. I WANT CHRYSLER TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS AND ISSUE MINE AND EVERYONE ELSES MONEY BACK - NOT ONLY FOR THE FAULTY PART BUT FOR ALL THE TIME AND INCONVENIENCE THIS CAUSES ON CAR OWNERS. PLEASE DON'T WANT UNTIL A FATALITY HAPPENS. *TR
WE HAVE TWO ISSUES. FIRST: DURING AN ABRUPT STOP RECENTLY, THE BRAKE PEDAL MASHED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE DIDN'T WANT TO STOP. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ABS KICKING IN, BUT THEY ARE DESIGNED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND KEEP YOU FROM SLIDING THE WHEELS. THIS JUST DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT AND ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME WE NOTICED SOMETHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. OUR VAN WAS MADE FOR TRAVELING, BUT WHEN LOADED DOWN (NOT OVERLOADED EITHER) THE BRAKES START TO ACT UP. FOR INSTANCE WHEN YOU START TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE FRONT END WILL START TO SHAKE. I HAVE NEWER BRAKES ON THE FRONT, NEW TIRES (2-WEEKS OLD) AND BRAND NEW ROTORS (LESS THAN 2 MONTHS OLD) ON THE VEHICLE SO I KNOW NOTHING IS OUT OF BALANCE. I SIMPLY DON'T TRUST MY VAN AND AM SERIOUSLY WORRIED THAT THERE IS A DEFECT. I HAVE A TOW HITCH ON MY VEHICLE, BUT AM AFRAID TO PULL MY MOTORCYCLE ON IT BECAUSE OF THE BRAKES ACTING UP. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I HAD MY TRAILER HITCHED. NO WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON, BUT WE'VE NOTICED THAT DURING A QUICK TURN THE WARNING BELL DINGS AND A LIGHT COMES ON THEN GOES OFF IMMEDIATELY. SECOND: THE POWERTRAIN DOESN'T' SHIFT SMOOTHLY. I MENTIONED THIS TO THE DEALER'S MAINTENANCE SHOP, BUT THE GUY TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING (WARRANTY WISE) UNLESS THERE WAS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WITH THE POWERTRAIN SYSTEM. I HAVE A 100K MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, AND FEEL THE DEALER IS SKIRTING THE ISSUE TO KEEP FROM PAYING FOR COVERED PROBLEMS. *TR
THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND FLUID SPRAYING AND GOING OFF, HORN HONKING AND LOCKS GOING ALL CRAZY. ABOUT A YEAR AGO THIS HAPPENED AND I TOOK MY CAR IN AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CLOCK SPRING, THEN A WEEK LATER SAME THING HAPPENED- HAPPENED FIRST WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND IT WENT CRAZY, THEN ALSO WHEN I USE THE KEY FAUB TO UNLOCK THE CAR IT ACTED UP. THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT IN THEY TOLD ME MY BATTERY WAS BAD, BUT IF I HAD IT IN A WEEK BEFORE THAT WHY IS THAT BAD NOW WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THEN? SO PUT IN AROUND $700 TO FIX THIS ISSUE. NOW YESTERDAY, EXACTLY A YEAR LATER, SAME THING HAPPENED. DRIVING ON MY WAY TO WORK, IT DID IT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES, I PULLED OVER AND SHUT MY CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. THEN WHEN I LEFT WORK I PUSHED MY UNLOCK ON MY KEY FAUB AND DID IT FOR A MINUTE OR SO, THEN WHEN I GOT HOME AND WENT DOWN TO MY CAR TO LEAVE LAST NIGHT, USED KEY FAUB AND IT STARTED GOING AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME WOULD NOT STOP SO THE BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED. I TRY TO HOOK THE BATTERY UP AND IT CONTINUES ON STILL. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR SOMEONE TO DRIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY, ALSO, MY CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT AND MY ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT TURNED ON THIS TIME, AND LAST YEAR IT DID NOT. MY CAR IS POSSESSED!! I COMMUTE TO WORK AND THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND THESE CARS NEED TO BE RECALLED ASAP! *TR
1. WHILE DRIVING THE ESP INDICATOR LIGHT AND ENGINE COMES ON AND WHEELS AUTOMATICALLY GO INTO SLOW MODE (AS IF I WERE ON ICE). I MANUALLY SHUT OFF BUTTON. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND SAID THE COIL IN MY STEERING MODULE IS BAD, NEEDS REPLACING. I COMPLAINED OF VAN HAVING HARD SHIFTING IN ACCEL AND DECEL. FAULT CODE C1210-STEERING ANGLE SENSOR 2. THE ENGINE LIGHT REPORTS THAT I HAVE A BAD EGR VALVE, NEEDS REPLACING. FOUND CODE P1404 & CODE P0404. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY AS THE CONTROL PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND THE SMELL OF SMOKE WAS EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FUEL GAUGE THEN ERRONEOUSLY DROPPED TO A READING OF ZERO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE INTEGRATED CONTROL MODULATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 44,000.
CAR STARTED SMOKING FOR FEW MINUTES WHEN CAR FIRST STARTED EACH DAY. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP, WHO CHANGED THE OIL, PUT IN A NEW FILTER, PLUGS, ETC. IT THEN WORKED FINE FOR A COUPLE MONTHS, AND THEN CLIMBING A HILL A LOUD KNOCKING STARTED. TOOK IT TO A CHRYSLER DEALER WHO REFUSED TO FIX OR REPLACE THE ENGINE, BECAUSE I COULD NOT PRODUCE RECEIPTS FOR OIL CHANGES, SINCE THAT WORK WAS TYPICALLY DONE BY ME, OR ONE OF MY WORKERS. I CONTACTED CORPORATE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT HONOR ANY WARRANTY FOR ANY PART OF THE CAR BECAUSE THEY HAD DECIDED THAT I DIDN'T TAKE GOOD ENOUGH CARE OF THE VAN, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION, EXCEPT FOR THE ENGINE. I HAVE SINCE TALKED TO MANY AUTO REPAIR PLACES AND WAS TOLD THAT EVEN IF I HAD NOT DONE ANYTHING TO THE CAR AT ALL, THE ENGINE SHOULD NOT HAVE BLOWN AT ONLY 30,000 MILES. NOW I HAVE HAD A $42,000.00 TOP OF THE LINE LIMITED MINIVAN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH IS TECHNICALLY STILL UNDER WARRANTY. TALKED TO AN ATTORNEY AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN AGAINST AUTO DEALERS ANYMORE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE NEW CEO IS A CRIMINAL WHO FIXED THE FAILING COMPANY BY RIPPING OFF CUSTOMERS. *TR
THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR ALERTED ME TO A TIRE WITH LOW PRESSURE. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IN TWO WEEKS THAT THE SENSOR HAD ALERTED ME TO A LOW PRESSURE SITUATION WITH THIS TIRE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED A LEAKING TIRE VALVE DUE TO CORROSION. THIS IS THE SECOND VALVE ON THIS VAN THAT I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH. CHRYSLER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING AS FAR AS WARRANTY OR DEFECTIVE PART IS CONCERNED. THEIR SERVICE WRITER'S OPINION WAS - "WELL, YOU DO LIVE IN THE NORTHEAST AND WE DO GET POOR WEATHER". THIS IS A LOUSY EXCUSE FOR A KNOW PROBLEM TO CHRYSLER. THIS SITUATION NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE HAS A CATASTROPHIC VALVE FAILURE AT SPEED AND IS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS COLLISION. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE VALVE AND TIRE MONITOR (THANKS CHRYSLER FOR YOUR GREAT DESIGN - $100 FOR A TIRE VALVE). *TR
THE DASH FLASHED, AND THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NO LONGER TURN ON. THIS IS DUE TO THE TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) SHORTING OUT, AND HAS BEEN REPORTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET WITH VARIOUS DODGE, CHRYSLER, JEEP VEHICLES. I WAS MADE TO PAY APPROXIMATELY $250 FOR THE REPAIRS. IN ADDITION, A MONTH LATER, THE WIRELESS IGNITION NODE DIED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL, AND FOR THAT I HAD TO PAY $606. *TR
THE POWER LIFT GATE OPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE, AND ABS SENSORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER MORE THAN FIVE TIMES, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO GET A SPECIFIC DIAGNOSIS IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER INDICATED THAT EITHER THE ECU OR THE HCU NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
OUR 2008 TOWN AND COUNTRY LX IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, HORN, DASH BOARD LIGHTS AND RADIO. WHEN THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR IS OPENED, ALL OF THE ABOVE ITEMS ARE HAPPENING. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT IT (NOT A CHRYSLER DEALER) SUGGESTED WE TAKE IT TO A CHRYSLER DEALER TO HAVE THE TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) REPLACED AS ONLY THE CHRYSLER DEALERS CAN DO THIS. AFTER READING SO MANY POSTS, IT APPEARS THERE ARE CLOSE TO 3,000 PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I WANTED TO OFFICIALLY FILE THE COMPLAINT BUT WILL CONDUCT FURTHER RESEARCH BEFORE SHELLING OUT $500-1000 TO THE DEALERSHIP AS THOUSANDS OF OTHERS HAVE. 50% OF THE PROBLEMS I READ ABOUT STATED THAT THE TIPM DIDN'T TOTALLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM. YES I HAVING AND ISSUE WITH MY WIFE'S 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN, ABOUT A WEEK AGO THE IGNITION MODULE WHERE THE KEY FOB SITS WHILE DRIVING, HAS BEEN SHIFTING TO THE OFF POSITION ON ITS OWN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, THUS TAKING POWER AWAY FROM THE STEERING AND BRAKING SYSTEM. IT HAS CREATED TWO INCIDENTS WHERE MY WIFE RAN OFF THE ROAD DENTED THE LEFT SLIDING DOOR AND SCRATCHED THE VAN UP, AND THE OTHER INCIDENT WAS WHEN SHE WAS BACK UP IT SHUT DOWN AND SHE SLAMMED INTO THE PARK VEHICLE AND DENTED THE REAR TAIL GATE CAUSE SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO BRING IT TO A STOP, NO DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLE WAS MADE. SO WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, AND FOUND OUT THAT SEVERAL THOUSAND OF THESE VEHICLES ARE UNDER RECALL, EXCEPT MY YEAR/MODEL THEY START THE RECALL ONE YEAR NEWER THAN MY MODEL WHICH HAS THE SAME TYPE OF IGNITION MODULE, INWHICH I AM HAVING THE SAME EXACT SAFETY ISSUE AS THE NEWER MODEL. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT TO REPAIR IT BACK TO WHOLE, THAT IS A NEW MODULE, AND 2 NEW KEYS ARE THEY OLD KEYS WONT WORK THAT IT WILL COST ME $800... THIS IS ABSURD, THIS IS SAFETY ISSUE, AND THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE WIDENED TO ALLOW ALL MODELS WITH THESE JUNK IGNITION MODULES TO BE REPLACED FOR THE SAFETY OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THIS, WHEN MY MODEL OF VEHICLE CERTAINLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED, AS IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER HEADQUARTERS AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT, NOW I AM WAITING TO SEE HOW THEY HANDLE THIS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 55 AND THE REAR 3RD LIGHT BRAKE ASSEMBLY BROKE OFF AND CRASHED ON THE ROAD. *TR
BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM CAR MAX 4 MONTHS AGO AND 4 WEEKS AGO HAD THE FRONT PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS REPLACED. THE CAR WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN BREAKING. AS IT TURNED OUT, THE INNER RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PAD WARPED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. IT WARPED IN ITS SLOT IN THE CALIPER...BENDING BACKWARD TOWARD THE CALIPER PISTON. AFTER IT COOLED IT WAS NOT APPLYING FORCE EVENLY TO THE ROTOR AND THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THE SHAKING. OK SO I HAVE IT ALL REPLACED AND RUNS OK EXCEPT FOR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE WE NOTICED WHAT I WOULD CALL EXCESSIVE HEAT BY THE TIRES. TODAY MY WIFE DRIVES HOME FROM WORK AND A FEW ERRANDS AND UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE SHE NOTICES FLAMES COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT TIRE AREA. I DOUSE THEM WITH A HOSE AND THEN DO A GOOGLE SEARCH TO SEE IF OTHER 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY OWNERS HAVE HAD ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. I AM BLOWN AWAY BY THE INORDINATE LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS BEING FILED REGULARLY SINCE 2008. ALMOST ALL OF THEM ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THIS VEHICLE. IT IS UNDERSIZED FOR THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF THIS VEHICLE. MANY OWNERS HAD TO REPLACE EVERYTHING I HAD TOO AND SOME SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR. CHRYSLER SEEMS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING AND THIS IS SERIOUS MY WHOLE HOUSE COULD HAVE BURNED DOWN. *TR
ALONG WITH THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS, I TOO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HORN, LIGHTING, WIPERS AND FLUID, CAR RUNNING WITH NO KEY IN IGNITION ETC. WHILE OUT OF TOWN THE CAR HAD THESE HAPPEN AND BROUGHT TO A CERTIFIED CHRYSLER SHOP. THEY DIAGNOSED AS A BAD BATTERY CONNECTION AFTER A MECHANIC DRIVING TO HIS HOME AND BACK. WE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE WITH OUR CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WE PURCHASED IT WITH 12,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAVE HAD TO HAD THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS CHANGED OUT TWICE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE VEHICLE WILL NEVER STOP SQUEAKING. WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR PADS TO BE REPLACED, AND YET IT STILL CONTINUES TO SQUEAK. AT THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER, MY HUSBAND HAD THE OIL CHANGED, AND ASKED FOR THE GUY TO LOOK AT THE BRAKES, HE SAID WE HAD PLENTY OF 'THICKNESS' ON THEM. I WAS OUT WITH MY CHILDREN JUST A FEW MONTHS LATER, AND VERY FEW MILES LATER, TO FIND MY BRAKES HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I WASN'T ABLE TO FULLY STOP AT A STREET LIGHT AND ENDED UP RUNNING THE RED WITH MY CAR HANGING COMPLETELY OVER THE LINE. I HAD 3 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE AND WAS LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION MONTHS PRIOR, I WAS AGAIN WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE, AND FOUND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING 65 MILES PER HOUR ON A BUSY STREET IN MID COMMUTER TRAFFIC. THE CAR COMPLETELY JUST SHUT OFF. I WAS THANKFULLY IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE WITH THE AID OF THE BRAKES. AFTER PULLING OUT THE KEY AND PUTTING IT BACK IN, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT IN AND THE MECHANIC SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. LOOKING ON BLOGS, IT APPEARS THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OTHER OCCASIONS FOR OTHER PEOPLE. THIS CAR HAS PROVEN ON TWO OCCASIONS THAT IT CAN HAVE FATAL CONSEQUENCES IF LEFT UNTREATED. FIXING THE BRAKES AND STALLING ISSUES ISN'T GOING TO HELP, BECAUSE THE PROBLEMS COME WITH NO WARNING. I HAD NO IDEA THAT MY BRAKES EVEN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE OKAY ONLY SOON TO FIND OUT THEY WEREN'T. THIS ALL HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE PERMANENT SQUEAK. FAN/AC SYSTEM NOT WORKING AS WELL. DROVE A BIT MORE STOPPED CAR AND WHILE OUT OF CAR ALL PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED THINGS OCCURRED AGAIN. IN ADDITION THE CAR UNLOCKED AND LOCKED SPONTANEOUSLY. TURNED CAR ON AND OFF BUT CAR DID NOT TURN OFF WHEN KEY WAS REMOVED. THE CAR REMAINED ON FOR SEVERAL MINUTES MORE BEFORE STOPPING. WE REMOVED THE FUSE FOR THE HORN AND CONTINUED DRIVING. WITH THE CAR PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY THE WIPERS CONTINUED TURNING ON AND OFF. WE DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH CHRYSLER. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WILL HAVE TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WILL CHARGE UP TO $120 TO EVALUATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
2ND SET OF BRAKES PREMATURELY FAILING. FIRST SET OF FRONT AND REAR BRAKES FAILED AT 21,811 MILES AND WERE COVERED UNDER CHRYSLER RECALL IN 2010. THE BRAKES INSTALLED AT THAT TIME HAVE FAILED WITH 45,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WITH 23,189 MILES ON THE BRAKES. INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME THAT 1MIL WAS LEFT ON THE BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE WITH SUCH LOW MILES AND BRAKES COMPLETELY SHREDDED!!! HE SAID THAT I WAS VERY CLOSE TO COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS ARE $379 NOT INCLUDING TAX. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER TOWN AND COUNTRY OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS - WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT!!! THESE VANS ARE DANGEROUS. ADDITIONALLY NOW AT 54,000 MILES THE FRONT ROTORS ARE WARPED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED @ $409. THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED @ 25,834 AND 35,272. WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE FRONT END AND STEERING VIBRATE UNCONTROLLABLY. BOTH CONDITIONS ARE SAFETY ISSUES, HAVE BEEN WELL DOCUMENT BY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE, AND ARE OBVIOUS INHERENT DEFECTS IN THE VEHICLE, AND SHOULD BE ISSUES THAT RESULT IN A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES AND REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS MADE AT CHRYSLER'S EXPENSE, YET THEY CONTINUE TO DENY THERE IS AN INHERENT PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE DROVE STRAIGHT INTO A STOPPED VEHICLE RESULTING IN $8990 IN DAMAGES TO THE FRONT INCLUDING DESTRUCTION OF THE BUMPER, REPLACEMENT OF THE HOOD, ETC. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY; SOMETHING THE MANAGER AT THE REPAIR FACILITY COULDN'T BELIEVE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A SECONDARY ROAD AT APPRIXIMATELY 25 MPH THE MOTOR SHUT DOWN AS WELL AS POWER TO THE STEERING AND BRAKES. PROCEEDED TO COAST DOWN THE ROAD UNTIL A SAFE PLACE WAS IDENTIFIED TO TURN OFF THE ROAD. SINCE POWER HAD CUTOFF STEERING AND BRAKING THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULTY. I INITIALLY BELIEVED THE ALARM SYSTEM WAS GOING OFF, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT UNLOCK WITH THE USE OF THE KEY. AFTER ABOUT FIVE MINUTES, IT APPEARED THAT POWER WAS FAILING AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN LEAKING OUT ALL OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID IN FRONT/BACK. SOON AFTER, THE POWER SEEMED TO DIE, BUT THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE (UNDER THE BATTERY) CONTINUED TO MAKE A CLICKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT POWER ON WITH THE USE OF THE KEY, AND THE CAR HAD TO BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I DROVE IT LESS THAN A HALF MILE FROM THE DAYCARE TO MY OFFICE, WHERE I SHUT IT OFF, GOT OUT AND CALLED MY DEALERSHIP WHO SUGGESTED I SHOULD BRING IT IN IMMEDIATELY. AFTER SETTING UP THE SERVICE CALL, I GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE AFTER LESS THAN 30 MINUTES AND EVERYTHING APPEARED TO WORK. UPON ARRIVING AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, I LEFT IT WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO REVIEW. ABOUT 1 DAY LATER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) WAS FAULTY AND A NEW ONE WOULD NEED TO BE PUT IN. NOW 9 DAYS LATER, IT IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE, THERE APPEARS TO BE A BACK ORDER WITH THE SUPPLIER AND NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP OR SO FAR THE MFG. CAN GET ME ANSWERS. I DID FILE A COMPLAINT/CASE WITH CHRYSLER ON 6/12/12 TO DOCUMENT MY CONCERNS AS I HAVE NO BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 9 DAYS AND NEED A VEHICLE IN ORDER TO FUNCTION WITH MY DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES INCLUDING WORK WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY A 25 MILE COMMUTE ONE WAY. IT WAS SUGGESTED I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA FOR IT TO BE ON RECORD. *TR
TWO YEARS AGO, WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, HORN, WIPERS, WIPER FLUID AND LIGHTS BEGAN GOING OFF AND ON BY THEMSELVES. STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED OFF THE CAR, BUT IT KEPT ON GOING ON. I WAS IN THE CAR WITH MY 5 CHILDREN AND MY HUSBAND WAS NOT WITH US. IT TOTALLY FREAKED OUT MY CHILDREN AND ME. MY HUSBAND CAME AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND IT STOPPED. ON THE WAY HOME IT HAD STOPPED. CALL OUR CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING, BUT THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT AND SAID TO BRING IT IN. NOT BEING UNDER WARRANTY (68,000 MILES) WE DECIDED TO DO OUR OWN RESEARCH (HUSBAND WORKS ON CARS ON A REGULAR BASIS). WE ONLY FOUND THAT OTHERS IN THIS SITUATION WERE NOT HAVING ANY LUCK AT DEALERSHIP. WE HAVE LEARNED HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS FOR 2 YEARS NOW. WE HAVE TAKEN OUT THE FUSE FOR THE HORN AND WIPERS (AS BOTH WILL NOT TURN OFF ANYMORE) AND INSERT WIPERS WHEN RAINING. WE DON'T FEEL SAFE WITH THIS SITUATION, BUT NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE. HAPPENS OFTEN WITHOUT PATTERN. WAITING FOR A RECALL SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A HUGE PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE PRODUCT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HORN OF THE VEHICLE WILL SOUND INDEPENDENTLY AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER WOULD ACTIVATE WITHOUT COMMAND. IN ADDITION, WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID WOULD SPRAY OUT SPORADICALLY ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO LOCK AND COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO RESET THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT YET DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 08/28/12*LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE POWER STEERING WOULD ALSO FAIL. THE DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS THE TIPM. IT WAS REPLACED. CHRYSLER DID ASSIST WITH A PORTION OF THE REPAIR COST. THE CONSUMER PAID AN 150.00 DEDUCTIBLE AND A 97.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. UPDATED 09/04/2012 *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
BRAKES WEAR OUT AND STOP WORKING EVERY 10K MILES. ENGINE CONSUMES 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 800 MILES WITH NO VISIBLE LEAKING OR DRIPPING. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. HAD VEHICLE DIAGNOSTICS TEST DONE AT LOCAL CHRYSLER/DODGE/JEEP DEALER. BAD EGR VALVE TO BLAME. FOUND OUT THROUGH MECHANIC AND ONLINE FORUMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. ALSO, THE EGR VALVE REPLACEMENT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER BY OVER 6000!!! DEFINITELY SHOULD BE RECALLED!!!!! *TR
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
