VEHICLE RECALLED NOV 2009 TO REPLACE GROMMET FOR A/C DRAIN WHICH COULD CAUSE AIR BAG MALFUNCTION K-25 COMPLETED 2/2010. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON IN JULY 2010 WHEN VEHICLE IS RUNNING. CHRYSLER RECALL L-01 TO REPLACE MODULE CAUSED BY LEAKING A/C ONLY FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AFTER JULY 30, 2008. IF RECALL IS FOR SOME 300,000 VEHICLES, WHEN DID THEY START MANUFACTURING 2009 VEHICLES? DID THEY BUILD THIS MANY VEHICLES BEFORE THE 09 MODELS CAME OUT? THEY SAY I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT COST!!!
THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE THE MOMENT I BOUGHT IT. IT IS SO AGGRAVATING THAT CHRYSLER WON'T OWN UP TO THE ISSUES WITH THESE CARS. ASIDE FROM THE MULTIPLE RECALLS THIS CAR HAS HAD IN THREE YEARS, THE BREAK SYSTEM IS AWFUL. I HAD REPLACED THE FRONT BREAKS AND ROTORS AROUND 28000 MILES (MAYBE EARLIER I CAN'T REMEMBER). NOW THE BACK BREAKS ARE SHOT AND ONCE AGAIN, I WILL NEED BREAKS AND ROTORS THAT WILL COST ME $375 ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. MY CAR HAS 38,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE OWNED MINI VANS IN THE PAST AND MANY CARS AND NEVER HAVE I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT AND REAR BREAK PADS/ROTORS THIS SOON. MY TIRES ARE SO BALD THAT ALL FOUR NEED REPLACING. AGAIN, I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE TIRES THIS SOON ON ANY OF MY VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS. THE RADIO SOMETIMES WILL NOT COME ON OR WILL GO BLACK. THE FACTORY BATTERY NEEDED REPLACING AT 30,000 MILES WHICH WAS EXTREMELY UNUSUAL AS WELL. THE SIDE DOORS NEED TO MANUALLY BE CLOSED WHEN EXITING VEHICLE BECAUSE IF I USE THE AUTOMATIC SWITCH, THEY BOUNCE BACK. I HAVE COME OUT OF STORES WITH MY DOORS WIDE OPEN. WHEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WITH SUDDENLY ACCELERATE WITH RPMS GOING INTO THE RED ZONE. ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL. THIS MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK PULLING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD I HEARD A GRINDING SOUND AS THE CAR BEGAN BREAKING ON ITS OWN. MEANWHILE THE EBS AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON. I PULLED OVER, SHUT OFF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON. DROVE UP THE ROAD AND LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. THIS CAR IS JUNK ALL AROUND. I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR THREE YEARS, STILL HAVE A CAR PAYMENT. RIDICULOUS. I MAY JUST LEASE NEXT TIME. THAT WAY CHRYSLER CAN PAY FOR REPAIRS. *TR
BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED EVERY 8K TO 14K MILES, RECALL J29 RADIATOR CAPAND K04 DISCHARGE HOSE - PARTS ORDERED JULY 26,2010. VEHICLE BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE AGAIN ON SEPT 27 2010 DEALERSHIP "ORDERED THE PARTS AGAIN BECAUSE THEY NEVER REPLACED THEM. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP ON NOV 18 2010 AND THESE RECALLED WERE CORRECTED ALONG WITH K14 FOR POWER DOOR POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE FROM THE FRONT END. THE FAILURE HAD BEEN OCCURRING SINCE MAY 2010 AND WAS BECOMING LOUDER WITH TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET THE AIRBAG ON MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN DEPLOYED. THERE WERE THREE OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE. MY ARM WAS BRUISED AND CUT DURING THE ACCIDENT. MY DAUGHTER HAD HER HEAD SHOVED THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW BY HER AIRBAG. MY GRANDSON WAS COUGHING AND CHOKING ON THE POWDER FROM THE AIRBAG. UNABLE TO SEE, I MANAGED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WITHOUT CAUSING ANY FURTHER DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE OR ANY OTHERS. THE POLICE AND INSURANCE ADJUSTERS LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND COULD FIND NO PHYSICAL REASON FOR THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. *TR
WE BOUGHT THIS VAN USED IN MARCH 2010. IT HAS BEEN THE WORST VEHICLE WE HAVE EVER PURCHASED. PRIOR TO THIS 2008 MODEL, WE HAD A 2005. WE REALLY LIKED IT SO WE FIGURED WE'D UPGRADE SO TO SPEAK. THAT WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE MISTAKE EVER. SINCE THEN WE HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES AND ROTORS TWICE AND NOW IT NEEDS REAR BRAKE ROTORS. WHEN I AM BRAKING AT ANY SPEED THE VAN SHAKES. THE VAN FEELS COMPLETELY UNBALANCED FOR SOME REASON. WE HAD AN ALIGNMENT DONE ON IT, NEW TIRES, A/C LINE BROKE, RADIO WOULD STOP WORKING, AND ONCE WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VAN HAD THIS WEIRD WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE VENTS. THE STEERING IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND IT EITHER PULLS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. WHEN I BRAKE, I HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN BEFORE IT FINALLY STARTS TO SLOW. I HAVE 5 YOUNG CHILDREN AND I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE IN THIS VAN. UNFORTUNATELY NOT ONLY ARE WE WASTING MONEY ON REPAIRS, BUT WE'RE WASTING PRECIOUS TIME IN DEALERSHIPS/MECHANICS THAT COULD BE SPENT TOGETHER AS A FAMILY. I REFUSE TO DRIVE HIGHER SPEEDS IN FEAR THAT THE BRAKES WILL FAIL. IN NO WAY DO I HANDLE THIS VEHICLE IN AN AGGRESSIVE MANNER. I FOLLOW ALL SPEED LIMITS AND DO NOT RIDE THE BRAKES. THIS IS NOT I REPEAT NOT NORMAL WEAR ON TEAR FOR ANY KIND OF VEHICLE! THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN NO HELP TO US. WE HAVE A BUMPER TO BUMPER EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IT'S DOING NO GOOD SINCE IT'S NOT EVEN COVERED. WE WILL NEVER EVER PURCHASE A CHRYSLER VEHICLE AGAIN AND GO OUT OF OUR WAY TO DISCOURAGE OTHERS FROM BUYING THEM AS WELL. I FIND IT VERY DISGUSTING THAT CHRYSLER IS NOT DOING ANYTHING TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE VERY PRECIOUS CARGO AS I'M SURE MANY OTHERS DO AS WELL. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE INJURED OR PERISH BEFORE THEY TAKE ACTION???? ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!
2008 CHRYSLER TOWN&COUNTRY, LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT AND DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND COASTED TO THE SHOULDER. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE IN PARK, THE VEHICLE STARTED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FOBIK AND TRANSMITTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,448.
I HAD TO INSTALL NEW BRAKES AT 24,000 AFTER TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A RECALL AND THE DEALER TOLD ME IT HAD EXPIRED . I JUST HAD TO REPLACE MY BRAKE PADS AND INSTALL NEW ROTORS AT 53,000 MILES. I HAVE MY RECEIPTS AND WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED AND INVESTIGATE WHY THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED, FOLLOWED BY A STUTTER. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE FOUR BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A MANUFACTURER NOTICE PERTAINING TO THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT BRAKE COMPONENTS. HOWEVER, THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WOULD NOT HONOR THE REMEDY REPAIR DUE TO THE BRAKE PADS SPECS NOT MEETING THE MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,800.
AT APPROX 30,000 MILES, I ROTATED THE TIRES, THE FRONT/REAR BRAKES WERE SHOT. I REPLACED EVERYTHING. I LATER LEARNED ABOUT THE RECALL. BREWBAKER CHRYSLER TOLD ME "TOO BAD, I GUESS YOU LEARNED A LESSON" WHEN I BROUGHT THEM MY RECEIPTS FOR THE BRAKE PARTS. AROUND THE SAME TIME, I WAS REPLACING THE WIPER BLADES WHEN I NOTICE THE DRIVERSIDE FRONT STRUT TOWER WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. WATER IS TRAPPED IN THE "CUP" OF THE STRUT TOWER AND HAD EATEN QUITE A BIT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I TRADED THE VEHICLE. I HAD ISSUES WITH THE SLIDING REAR DOORS(REOPENING WITH NOTHING IN THE WAY AND CLOSING TOO HARD, IE SAFETY FEATURE INOP), THE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR(BROKEN LINKAGE), THE "Y" COOLING HOSE BROKE/SPLIT, USING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES AND LOCKING WITH THE KEYS INSIDE. UPON TRADE-IN, THE VAN HAD APPROX 58,000 MILES. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT AGAIN! I'VE NEVER HAD ONE VEHICLE WITH SO MANY PROBLEMS IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. MY CURRENT VEHICLE, 02 CHEVY S10 4.3L V6 (OWNED SINCE NEW, .2 MILES) HAS 119,000+ MILES AND THE ONLY PROBLEM I'VE HAD WAS A BAD TPS, AT AROUND 100,000 MILES. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO STEP UP THEIR GAME AND FIX THERE VEHICLES. *TR

THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED IN OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WERE TWO OCCASIONS WHEN THE LOW AND HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO FUNCTION UPON ACTIVATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000.
INCIDENT #1: REAR WHEEL NOISY, SOUNDED LIKE A BAD WHEEL BEARING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. TOOK IT TO A CHRYSLER 5 STAR DEALER, THEY SAID THE BRAKE WAS STUCK, NEEDED 2 NEW REAR CALIPERS, PADS, ROTORS, $750. VAN HAD ABOUT 30K MILES. INCIDENT #2: REAR WHEEL NOISY, SOUNDED LIKE A BAD WHEEL BEARING. CHECKED THE BRAKES MYSELF, DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE IS STUCK. ROTOR IS WORN DOWN, PADS WORN DOWN TO NOTHING. FITTED NEW PADS, ROTORS. VAN HAD ABOUT 50K MILES. INCIDENT #3: REAR WHEEL NOISY, SOUNDED LIKE A BAD WHEEL BEARING. DRIVERS SIDE REAR BRAKE STUCK ON, WHEEL WAS NUCLEAR HOT. PROBABLY NEEDS NEW PADS AND ROTORS AGAIN! VAN HAS ABOUT 70K MILES. THE DEALER STIFFED ME FOR EXPENSIVE NEW CALIPERS THAT WEREN'T NECESSARY. THIS IS A PAD/FRAME DESIGN PROBLEM. THE PADS STICK IN THE FRAME AND DON'T RETRACT FROM THE ROTOR. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH OF COURSE THE DEALER WILL DENY IT AND UPSELL YOU NEW CALIPERS. NEW VANS HAVE REDESIGNED BRAKES. THIS VAN NEEDS EXPENSIVE NEW REAR BRAKES EVERY 20-30K MILES DUE TO A DANGEROUS DESIGN ERROR. THE REAR BRAKES CAN QUICKLY WEAR OUT OR GET STUCK ON. *TR
2008 TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN. REAR BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED AT 12,000 MILES. LEFT REAR CALIPER FROZE SHORTLY AFTER, SMOKING AND VERY HOT. FIRE HAZARD. FRONT BRAKE PADS REPLACED AT 14,000 MILES. BRAKES HAVE MAJOR ISSUES, UNDERSIZED FOR THIS VEHICLE? REPORTS ONLINE INDICATE THEY NEED REPLACING AS SOON AS EVERY 10,000 MILES. NO LONGER THINK THAT MY WIFE WAS THE PROBLEM. CAN SOMEONE FORCE CHRYSLER INTO RECALLING THIS VEHICLE AND REPLACING WITH LARGER BRAKING SYSTEM? MUST AN ENTIRE FAMILY WITH KIDS PERISH? IT STARTED BY ENGINE CUTTING OFF WHILE RUNNING DOWN THE ROAD 20 - 50 MPH WE SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND RESTART IT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVER SINCE WE PURCHASED IT FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN MYRTLE BEACH. THEY WORKED ON IT AND SAID IT SOMETHING ABOUT THE VALVES WERE DIRTY AND CHARGES US $300. AND IT CONTINUED CUTTING OFF ON US ON THE WAY BACK HOME. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE DRIVE IT. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN CONWAY, SC AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I LEFT THERE, DRIVE AWAY ON THE BUSY HIGHWAY AND IT CUTS OFF A NUMBER OF TIMES. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO BOTH DEALERSHIPS A NUMBER OF TIMES AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE IS ALSO PUZZLED. WE HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, WATER PUMP AND TIMING BELT, BATTERY. YESTERDAY, NOVEMBER 30TH WE CAME FROM LONG AVE. TO 701 APPROXIMATELY 3-5 MILES AND IT CUT OFF 5 TIMES WHILE DOING APPROXIMATELY 45 - 50 MPH. WE TURNED ONTO 701 AND IT CUT OFF 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN A MILE. THE LAST TIME IT CUT OFF WE MAKING A LEFT TURN, LUCKILY THE LIGHT WAS GREEN (BUSY INTERSECTION - 4 WAY TRAFFIC/SHOPPING CENTER. WE GOT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND PULLED OFF ROAD BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT START. WHEN WE TURNED THE IGNITION ON IT WOULD JUST CLICK ONE TIME. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES IT STARTED AND WE WENT THE LAST HALF MILE HOME WITH THE VEHICLE JUMPING AND SKIPPING ALL THE WAY. WE ARE AFRAID TO LEAVE HOME ON IT FOR FEAR OF AN ACCIDENT OR GETTING STRANDED. WE FEEL THIS IS A FACTORY PROBLEM AND SHOULD NOT BE A BURDEN ON US. SINCE 1995 WE HAVE PURCHASED 10 CHRYSLER PRODUCTS AND THIS IS THE WORSE.WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WE STARTED HEARING SQUEAKING NOISES IN OUR WHEELS APPROXIMATELY 9 MONTHS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE NEW VEHICLE AND BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT ONLY 10,000 MILES. THIS WAS DUE TO SEVERE OVERHEATING CAUSING THE BRAKES TO PREMATURELY WEAR. ONE YEAR LATER WE STARTED HEARING THE SAME SQUEAKING NOISE AGAIN AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED AGAIN CAUSING SEVERE OVERHEATING AND PREMATURE WEARING. IT WAS ONLY 6,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST BRAKES WERE REPLACED. OUR VAN ONLY HAS 18,000 MILES ON IT TOTAL AND THE BRAKES AND ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. CHRYSLER CORP KNOWS OF THIS DEFECT AND IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. UNLESS THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM IS REPLACED THE PADS AND ROTORS WILL CONTINUE TO WEAR PREMATURELY. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD FOR ANYONE OWNING A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY AND ANYONE DRIVING ON THE ROAD WITH A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. IF A RECALL IS NOT INITIATED SOMEONE WILL DIE. *TR
PROBLEM 1 - THE VAN VIBRATES VIOLENTLY WHEN BRAKING DOWNHILL. CHANGING BRAKE PADS, ROTORS AND CALIPERS DOES NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM 2 - DURING WARM WEATHER (80 DEGREES AND ABOVE) THE WIPERS RUN CONTINUALLY, THE POWERED DRIVERS SEAT GOES BACK AND FORTH, THE GAUGES DO NOT WORK, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON, THE STEREO/NAV WILL NOT WORK, THE A/C QUITS COOLING BUT THE FAN CONTINUES TO BLOW, THE POWER WINDOW WILL NOT WORK AND THE LIFT GATE WILL NOT OPEN.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT RIGHT BEFORE THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, THE AIR CONDITIONER AND RADIO WOULD FAIL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER EACH FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
BEGINNING IN 2010, BOTH REAR SLIDING DOORS BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN OPENED EITHER WITH THE REMOTE OR INSIDE BUTTON, THEY BEGIN TO OPEN AND WHEN MOST OF THE WAY OPEN, CLOSE ON ITS OWN. IT STARTED OUT DOING IT INFREQUENTLY, ABOUT ONCE EVERY 50 TIMES THE DOOR WAS OPENED. OVER THE LAST YEAR IT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT, DOING IT ABOUT ONCE EVERY FEW DAYS OR SO. ONCE IN 2010, MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS GETTING OUT AND THE DOOR MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUGHT HER IN BETWEEN, CAUSING A BRUISE ON HER FACE. FOR SOME REASON THE DOOR DID NOT "BOUNCE BACK" WHEN IT MADE CONTACT WITH HER, BUT THANKFULLY I WAS STANDING THERE AND WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY FORCE THE DOOR BACK OPEN.THIS YEAR, THE DOOR AGAIN MALFUNCTIONED AND ALMOST CAUGHT MY 8 YR OLD, BUT HE MANAGED TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THIS AND BOTH TIMES THEY TOLD ME IT IS FUNCTIONING FINE.THE FIRST TIME I PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALER I TESTED THE DOOR. I OPENED AND SHUT IT ABOUT 15 TIMES AND IT MALFUNCTIONED. I WENT INSIDE TO GET THE REPAIR TECH TO SHOW HIM AND WHEN IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN HE TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. WHEN I BROUGHT THE VAN IN AGAIN TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT THE SECOND TIME, THEY AGAIN TOLD ME IT WAS FUNCTIONING FINE AND THAT SINCE MY VAN NEEDED A NEW BATTERY THAT THEY THOUGHT THE BATTERY WAS THE PROBLEM. THE DOOR DID IT AGAIN THAT NIGHT AND AGAIN AFTER THAT THREE DAYS LATER. I CONTACTED THEM TWICE ABOUT IT AGAIN, ASKING THEM IF I VIDEO TAPED IT IF THEY WOULD BELIEVE ME AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULDN'T MATTER AND THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP IT UNTIL THEY SAW IT. THEY HAD MY VAN THIS LAST TIME FOR 5 DAYS! I HAD TO PAY $217 FOR A RENTAL BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THIS IS DANGEROUS! I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN GETTING IN AND OUT EVERYDAY. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR RENTALS FOR AN UNSPECIFIED AMOUNT OF TIME, BUT THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO GET FIXED! *TR
TWO PROBLEMS: 1. WHILE DRIVING VERY SLOWLY AROUND A CURVY ROAD, THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED ( 2 TIMES) MAKING ME HIT THE CURB. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE ON ANY VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 20 YEARS, HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES AND AM NOT DRIVING ANY DIFFERENTLY THAN I HAVE DRIVEN IN THE PAST. THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS PUT ON THIS VEHICLE AT ASSEMBLY WERE SUB-PAR. CHRYSLER HAS RECEIVED THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM FROM 2008 T&C OWNERS AND REFUSES TO COVER THE ROTOR REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR AND ROUNTINELY PUTS THE BLAME ON THE OWNER.

ALSO AT 30K MILES, THE FRONT PADS HAD 40% LEFT, BUT THE FRONT ROTORS WHERE DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. REPLACED FRONT ROTORS AND FRONT/REAR PADS AT AN EXPENSE OF $500. MECHANIC AND CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS (TWO CSRS SO FAR) ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A REPEATING AND KNOWN ISSUE. NO RECALLS OR RESOLUTION FROM CHRYSLER TO DATE. *TR

HE SAID THEY WERE HAVING A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH T&C'S HAVING FAULTY CALIPERS, WHICH IN TURN CAUSED THE BRAKES TO WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. 2. MECHANIC'S WRITE-UP SAID "VERIFIED CUSTOMER COMPLAINT AND FOUND THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS TO BE SEIZED AND NOT WORKING PROPERLY. REPLACED CALIPERS AND EVERYTHING IS OK." THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERS THE CALIPERS. MY VAN HAS 30,000 MILES WHEN THIS CAME TO OUR ATTENTION, AND THE BRAKES ARE WORN WELL BEYOND A SAFE AMOUNT. THE MECHANIC HAS SEEN MULTIPLE IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. 3. CALIPERS WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, NEW ROTORS AND PADS INSTALLED AT A COST TO THE OWNER OF $500. *TR

THE TIE BETWEEN THE OIL CHANGE AND THE BRAKES WAS LESS THAN THE TIME WE NEEDED TO GO BACK FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE. THE VAN IS A CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. OUR VAN HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER 17,000 MILES THE BRAKES ARE DOWN TO LESS THEN 5 % OF USEFUL LIFE, ACCORDING TO MANY INTERNET POSTS THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR MANY OWNERS. THE CURRENT REPAIR IS ESTIMATED TO BE AROUND $400 US. THE FEAR IS THAT THIS FAILURE WILL RE-OCCUR SINCE THE BRAKES SEEM TO BE UNDERSIZED FRO THE VEHICLE WEIGHT AND SIZE. THE VAN NEEDED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THESE VEHICLES DON'T GO VERY LONG WITHOUT NEEDING BRAKES AND THAT THE PADS ON THIS VAN DO NOT SQUEAL. I ASKED HOW I WAS SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT I WOULD NEED NEW BRAKES AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE IF THEY DON'T SQUEAL, AND THE DEALER SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE KNOWN IF I HAD MY TIRES ROTATED EVERY 6K MILES. I HAD HIM CHECK MY HISTORY AND IT WAS LESS THAN 6K SINCE LAST ROTATION SO HE TOLD ME TO COMPLAIN TO CHRYSLER. I DID, THEY OPENED A CASE AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE VAN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VAN AND TOLD ME THAT IT NEEDED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND BOTH ROTORS REPLACED AND THAT BECAUSE OF THE CONDITION OF THE BRAKES, IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE AND THEY COULD NOT LET ME LEAVE IN THAT CONDITION. THEY REPORTED THIS BACK TO THE CASE MANAGER AT CHRYSLER. AFTER 4 DAYS AND NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS FROM BOTH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND MYSELF, CHRYSLER AGREED TO DO A "ONE-TIME GOODWILL" REPAIR FOR ME, AND I WAS TO ASKED TO PAY $50.

WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS LOCKED ON, AND MADE A LOUD NOISE. I EXITED THE FREEWAY, STOPPED THE CAR AND NOTICED THE REAR WHEEL WAS VERY HOT AND HAD A STRONG BURNING SMELL. THE FENTON, MI CHRYSLER DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND ACCURATELY GUESSED THAT MY CAR WAS A 2008 TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN, AND HE EVEN KNEW IT AFFECTED THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL. HE HAD SEEN THIS MANY TIMES WITH EARLY 2008 T& C'S. WHY HAS CHRYSLER NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL? THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. THE DEALER FIXED THE PROBLEM AT NO CHARGE, SINCE, AT 31,000 MILES, MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, MY CONCERN IS FOR OTHER DRIVERS OF THIS VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE IF A RECALL WOULD BE APPROPRIATE. *TR

WE WERE TOLD THAT THE BRAKES ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO NORMAL WEAR & TEAR AND THAT WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL THE BRAKES GO EVERY 12,000-20,000 MILES, AND THAT THIS WILL BE A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR THE LIFE OF THE VAN. OUR VAN HAS LESS THAN 18,000 MILES ON IT, AND IS A LEASE THAT WE ARE THINKING OF TURNING IN NOVEMBER. WHEN WE LEASED THE BRAND NEW VAN, WE FELT CONFIDENT THAT ISSUES SUCH AS BRAKES GOING DURING THE LEASE PERIOD WOULD NOT BE A CONCERN (KNOWING THAT WE ONLY WERE ABLE TO USE 31,500 TOTAL MILES OVER THE 3 YR LEASE.) I FEEL THAT BASED ON THE EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR & MODEL OF VAN THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED TO OWNERS OF THIS VAN. THERE DO NOT SEEM TO BE SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE 2007 & 2009 MODELS. IT IS UNFAIR TO 2008 BUYERS TO HAVE TO 'DEAL' WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR THE LIFE OF THE VAN. CLEARLY, THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF BRAKES ON A BRAND NEW VAN SHOULD EXCEED 18,000 MILES BY AT LEAST DOUBLE, IF NOT TRIPLE OR QUADRUPLE THAT MILEAGE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SEQUEL ABNORMALLY. THE NOISE WOULD CEASE ONCE THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE DESTROYED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. ON ONE OCCASION, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITHIN THE CALIPERS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

AFTER TAKING MY FAMILY ON A 3,000 + MILE TRIP TO FLORIDA AND BACK TO MICHIGAN THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS, I TOOK MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI-VAN INTO MEADE DODGE IN GROSSE POINTE, MI IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE, TIRE ROTATION AND WARRANTY WORK TO ADDRESS ISSUES THAT AROSE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING AND AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR DURING THE TRIP. DURING THE 23 POINT INSPECTION THAT THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMS WITH THE OIL CHANGE, THE SERVICE REP CONTACTED ME ABOUT A KNOWN FREQUENT ISSUE WITH PRE-MATURE WEAR OF THE ROTORS AND BREAKING PADS ON THE TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI-VANS. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE MENTIONED IT BEING A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THEY SEE FREQUENTLY ON THESE VEHICLES AND THAT CHRYSLER AUTHORIZED THE WORK BEING COMPLETED WITH A $100 CONSUMER CO-PAY TO HAVE THE WORK COMPLETED. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE PUBLIC OR OWNERS OF THE VANS WERE NOT NOTIFIED. I TOOK A LONG TRIP WITH MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE THAT CONTAINED PARTS WITH A KNOWN DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT IF THE BREAKING SYSTEM FAILED. MY VAN CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 21,000 MILES ON IT. I WANT TO MAKE YOUR DEPARTMENT AWARE THAT THIS MAY BE AN ISSUE AFFECTING ALL NEW TOWN AND COUNTRY VANS SOLD. IN DISCUSSING THIS INCIDENT WITH A CO-WORKER, HE MENTIONED A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH HIS 1998 TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN. *TR
