NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The vehicle totally turns off while driving. The steering locks and brakes don't work. It has something to do with the key or ignition. It's not an engine stall. It's loss of everything as if the key was turned off. This is very dangerous.
2012 Chrysler Town&Country My 2012 Town and Country has randomly stopped on me three times in April and May of 2022. The car shuts off completely for no apparent reason. The car will not start again until put into park. This was unsafe because I had no control of the car until it rolled to a stop. Fortunately, each time the hazard lights responded and cars behind me went around. The very scary part was not knowing if I would run into the car ahead of me as neither brakes nor steering worked. I took it to my dealership and told them the problem. They said they discovered there was faulty wiring and repaired it at the cost of just nearly $700. I picked up the car. I drove it for under an hour and it stopped in the middle of a busy street. I took the car back to the dealership. They kept it for two weeks and finally said they made it do the event again. They then proceeded to try to diagnose it. After a week or so they called to say they thought they had diagnosed the problem. However they could not get the part that they thought needed to be replaced. None seemed to be available. The dealership then called to say that they had found two parts but only one was available. I was informed that they weren’t sure they could get the part at all. (The cost for parts and labor will be $1000.) My car has now been in the dealership for almost a month. They tell me that they have no idea when the car will be fixed. I was also informed that even if they put this part in the car they cannot guarantee me the car will be safe to drive. I will not have any confidence in this car again. I will find it a financial hardship to purchase a new car right now. This however is the only choice open to me now in order to feel safe in a car again. 2022,dlr
Vehicle cuts off while driving but does not set a code.Been in three different Chrysler dealers but has not cut off with a tech at either dealership and has not set a code.Vehicle was just driven on a 3700 mile trip and did not cut off but this morning it cut off twice in our driveway..This has been happening off and on for over one year.We have spent a ton of money looking for answers.Seems to cut off while slowing down around 30-35 miles per hour..Extremely dangerous.Chrysler opened a Star Case but no answer has come forward. So very DANGEROUS.
The External Fuel Pump Relay has failed causing stalling conditions while driving and starting problems. Along with that, it has drained the battery due to not turning the fuel pump off after the car is turn off. The part was recalled on the Jeep and Durango models with the same 3.6L engine. There have been many reports of this online with Town and Country and Dodge Caravan models with the 3.6L and 5.7L engines.
SEAT BELT FASTNER IS COMING APART ON DRIVERS SIDE. NOT ALLOWING FOR SMOOTH BUCKLING. THE SEAT BELT HOLDER IS COMING APART AND MUST BE SNAPPED BACK TOGETHER IN ORDER FOR SEAT BELT TO SECURELY FIT. IT OFTEN TIMES DOES THIS DAILY.
Bad relay module: 1. Battery drained while parked in garage overnight, multiple occasions. 2. Fuel pump continued to run and make noise when the vehicle is shut off. 3. Chrysler dealer performed diagnosis and confirmed that the TIPM require replacement, replacement part will take additional two months to arrive. 4. Engine stalled while making low speed right turn at high traffic intersection and nearly caused accident with children onboard. Likely caused by shut off fuel pump. 5. The vehicle is absolutely unsafe to drive and require immediate repair.
FUEL PUMP RELAY STICKS AND CAUSES BATTERY TO GO DEAD. FILED COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER IN 2021. THEY EXPLAINED THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE TIPM IN MULTIPLE VEHICLES WITH THE SAME FUSE RELAY BOX WHICH COULD CATCH FIRE. MY 2012 WAS NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS. DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. ORDERED CHRYSLERS RELAY BYPASS KIT FROM MULTIPLE OUTLETS INCLUDING OEM CHRYLER PARTS DEPARTMENTS ONLY TO GET CANCELLED DUE TO AVAILIBILITY FOR ONLY RECALLED VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE SHUTS OUT RANDOMLY AND WILL NOT START . THE FUSE BOX FINALLY DID START SMOKINING AT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE #25. i HAD TO ORDER A COMPLETE TIPM NOW BECAUSE IT DAMAGED THE CIRCUIT BOARD.ALSO,WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON THE FLEXPLATES (FLYWHEEL) IT SHATTERED AT THE CRANKSHAFT BOLTS
Vehicle sometimes simply cuts off while driving.Vehicle has NOT set a code..Vehicle has been in four different Chrysler dealerships but they can not get the cutting off problem to accrue. This is extremely dangerous.Past records of the repair orders have been loss but the vehicle is in the shop today for this problem and the tech can not get the car to cut off.
The vehicle has shut down several times while driving or comi g to a stop. There is enough fuel in the tank and once the vehicle is put in park it starts right up like nothing happened. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic shop and looked at and was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle that everything came out fine and looked fine . Has shut down several more times since that. One of the incidents happened when coming to a stop and other es while driving. Luckily there was no vehicles behind or in front of me.
Hard starting mostly in the mornings sometimes in the hot afternoon I have to turn the key several tries to get it to start the most of the rest of the day it’s OK the Ignition seems loose sometimes the key will not pull out right I’ve heard about the recalls on the other years causing the vehicle to shut off while I’m driving I hope this does not happen.Other years of the Chrysler Town an Country was recalled,Same engine same parts.Win ignition was bad. Please don’t let us get seriously injured if the vehicle ever shuts down on us while driving. Many other owners having the same issues. We got many new parts trying to fix.But no luck. But it is now. Narrow down to this problem with the ignition.
I was driving my 2012 town & country van on the expressway and the van started slowing down and were jerking backwards and forward it was trying to shut off. I became very afraid for my children safety as well as mine. Ignition switch was stalling while I was driving. The car behind me was driving so fast ,that I had to pull off the expressway before me and my family would die. This should be a recall so other family member would not die. Bad ignition switch can cost a family their life's. Please look into this I thank God that me and my kids are still alive. I would like to have a recall on this item( ignition switch) before it cause someone life. Please fix my van. Thank you
The driver-side rear sliding door lock actuator has failed to operate any longer and because of this part failure, the driver-side sliding door will not unlock or open. The safety of my family is being put at risk because should we be in an accident on the passenger side of the car, for example and "t-bone" or a roll-over that does not allow us to use the passenger side doors, everyone in the back (we have a 7-person family, 5 children in the back) will not be able to exit the minivan without climbing over the driver seat or climbing over the rear seat. And assuming the accident is severe enough to not allow us to exit on the passenger side of the car, I believe it is also safe to assume that injuries will have occurred and the children and/or adults will be unable to climb over or around seats and could be at great risk of injury trying to get out of the car by themselves or by emergency support since no access will be available for them to get safety support boards into the car or for them to get into the car and to the children safely. This problem has been confirmed by a local body shop since the door will not open or close they had to completely remove the door to get into the panel to inspect. I have not had the vehicle inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative but it has been inspected by my mechanic and auto body shop. There were no warning lamps or messages warning of this problem or part breakage. It was a situation where we left the house and used both sliding doors and while we were out, the driver side sliding door stopped working. This appears to be a very common problem with chrysler/dodge/jeep/ram products and has been going on for years. There are numerous videos on youtube showing people talking about this problem and recalls have been issued for other model vehicles and need to be put in place for my vehicle as well.
The bearings in the rockers went bad and allowed the rockers to make contact with the camshafts. The camshafts are bad and the rockers are bad. There is metal in the oil system now.
It's the timp the big black box with all the fuses in it I have had so much problems with it it messed up the alternator and the battery and the doors and the fule pump now I have to get a new box and a fused pump because it won't start at all now it have quite on me while I was driving before it broke all the way down I don't know why they ain't a recall on it yet
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled, and the rear brake lights failed to illuminate. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The failure almost caused a collision. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 151,602.
Chrysler recalled Jeep n Durango models due to faulty fuel pump relay. Town and Country vans were added to recall expansion. #R09- 14V-530 My van doesn't start properly and have been stranded with 2 young children n cold weather. I need my van for work as I'm a single mother and just bought the van. I need this repaired immediately.
Car stalls while driving. Looses brakes and steering. Mechanics can not determine cause. No codes stored. Almost caused a collision happened 4 times in a month
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that the vehicle would not immediately start. The contact was able to start the vehicle after several attempts. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump relay had failed and needed to be replaced. The independent mechanic also advised the contact that the manufacturer had made a bypass kit for the failure. The fuel pump relay was bypassed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
Driver side back sliding door lock is stuck in lock position and won’t open. Safety issue! Took it to a mechanic he stated it was the lock actuator. This is very dangerous and frustrating needs to be a recall!
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.
During an accident, the front driver side was impacted. My brother was driving, and hit his head on the windshield after air bags failed to deploy. He rear-ended another vehicle on the highway when he was going somewhere around 40-50 MPH. He is handicapped, and therefore was seat belted into his wheelchair in addition to the car seatbelt. It is believed that his chair seatbelt kept him from hitting his head harder or from permeating the windshield. Pictures included below show his van (white) and the vehicle he hit (grey/silver) with the rear end damages.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO ORIGINALLY DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS A FUEL PUMP RELAY FAILURE. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MAP SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE PART FOR REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. Garden City Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram (283 N Franklin St, Hempstead, NY 11550) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER MONTH. East Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram SRT AND Westbury Jeep Chrysler Dodge RAM Service & Parts (111 Bond St, Westbury, NY 11590) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT PARTS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND REMAINED WITH THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT RELATED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V115000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 225,000.
CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND NO INDICATE ANY ENGINE LIGHT. VERY DANGEROUS ALMOST CRASH W MY 4 KIDS IN CAR. I WANNA NOW IF I CAN SUE THE CHRYSLER COMPANIES
Vehicle will randomly shut off when driving. The first time it happened was as I was pulling out onto a very busy road. It also has a hard time turning over to start sometimes. I will have to readjust the key fob and try again.
Vehicle shuts off with no warning. Doors have opened on their own. Just got out of shop as could not start the vehicle or lock the doors. This has been a dangerous experience. There was a recall for this Wireless Ignition Node Module on 2008-2010. I believe this recall should be extended to the 2012 also.
DRIVER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR BECAME LOCKED AND STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION. IT WILL NOT UNLOCK ELECTRICALLY USING ANY BUTTON INSIDE THE VEHICLE NOR WILL IT UNLOCK USING THE KEY FOB. THE DOOR LOCK CANNOT BE FORCEFULLY DISENGAGED MANUALLY EITHER. THIS CREATES A GREAT SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE REAR PASSENGERS CAN EGRESS ONLY THROUGH THE RIGHT SLIDING DOOR (OR OUT THE BACK HATCH IF THEY ARE MOBILE ENOUGH TO MOVE BY THEMSELVES). THERE IS MUCH DOCUMENTATION OF THIS IN ONLINE USER FORUMS AND ON CHRYSLER'S OWN WEBSITE, THERE IS NO USER-LEVEL REPAIR OR BYPASS INFORMATION AVAILABLE. THE ONLY AVAILABLE FIX IS TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR AN APPROXIMATE $1000 REPAIR CHARGE. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE WITHOUT BOTH SLIDING DOORS OPERATIONAL AND THE DEARTH OF INFORMATION HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE IS WORSE. OCCURRED AT APPROX. 110000 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START-UP THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE STARTER HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LARRY H. MILLER CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM SANDY (10905 AUTO MALL DR, SANDY, UT 84070) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE ENGINE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RELATED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V487000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.*DT
I HAD THE FOLLOWING REPLACED IN JUNE 2020: 6 SPARK PLUGS, 6 BOOTS, AND AN INTAKE GASKET SET. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON AND IT IS STILL READING #2 MISFIRE.
VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING SHUTTING DOWN ALL POWER CONTROLS
WHEN TRYING TO START START BUTTON IS PUSHED, VAN TURNS OVER, STARTS FOR ~2 SECONDS AND SHUTS OFF. TAKES SEVERAL TRIES TO GET IT TO COMPLETELY START AND CONTINUE RUNNING. ALSO WHEN TURNING VAN OFF. PUSH BUTTON, VAN STOPS RUNNING, HOWEVER, IT SWITCHES TO ACCESSORY AND TAKES SEVERAL TIMES PUSHING BUTTON TO SWITCH TO OFF AND STAY THERE. VEHICLE IS ON LEVEL GROUND AND STATIONARY PARKED POSITION. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A MONTH OFF AND ON. RECENTLY THE LAST WEEK.
VEHICLE WAS FAILING TO START. IT WOULD CRANK, BUT NOT START. OR SOMETIMES WOULD START AND DIE IMMEDIATELY. WE TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND SAID NEEDED TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE. TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER SEVERAL DAYS WAS TOLD WE NEEDED A NEW TIPM WHICH WOULD BE $1500. INSTEAD WE ORDERED THE TIPM AND PUT IT IN OURSELVES (VERY EASY AND MUCH CHEAPER) BUT IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT IS DOING THE SAME THING, AND NOW I HAVE PAID THE DEALERSHIP $160 FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND $650 FOR A PART THAT I CANNOT RETURN.
DRIVER'S SEAT BELT THAT IS ANCHORED TO THE SEAT (OR CAR FRAME?) ON THE LEFT SIDE OF DRIVER CAME OUT WHEN DRIVER TURNED TO LOOK OVER SHOULDER. THE SEAT BELT IS INTACT BUT WHATEVER ANCHORS IT TO THE CAR SOMEHOW RELEASED THE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND ON A CITY STREET AT THE TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP RELAY FAILED TO GET POWER FROM THE TIPM AND THAT THE FUEL PUMP RELAY NEEDED TO BE BYPASSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 126,000.*DT*JB
I HAVE PROBLEM WITH MY 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY FUEL PUMP RALY THE FUEL PUMP KEEP RUNNING WHEN THE CAR OFF. SOME COMPANY RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM
THE VAN WOULD NOT CRANK WHEN I GOT READY TO LEAVE WORK. I WAITED A BIT, PUT MY HALO CHARGER ON IT AND IT CRANKED. THE NEXT MORNING IT WOULD NOT CRANK. IT WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO KEPT IT FOR 4 DAYS AND TOLD US WE NEEDED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS THE TIPM, $1600 TO REPLACE, BUT $400 TO DO A BYPASS.
THE FUEL PUMP RELAY IS FAULTY. WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING. ONCE ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. MY MECHANIC SAID THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS THE SAME SET UP AS THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THAT. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND THE PARTS TO REPLACE THE RELAY ARE NOT AVAILABLE. WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANY MORE. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE SAFETY OF OWNERS. MY WIFE WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC WHEN THE VAN COMPLETELY STALLED OUT WHILE ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS APPROACHING. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO MANUVER INTO A TURN LANE TO AVOID A COLLISION. WE'VE ALSO HAD NUMEROUS TIMES THAT IT WOULD GLITCH OUT WHILE DRIVING BUT NOT STALL.
THE VEHICLE DOES NOT CONSISTENTLY START AND HAS A CHANCE OF FAILURE WHEN IN OPERATION. I HAVE THE VEHICLE IN A SHOP AND IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS A FUEL PUMP RELAY THAT IS NOT CONSISTENTLY RECEIVING POWER. THIS HAS BEEN A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITHIN THE TIPM SYSTEM BUT NO RECALLS ARE OPEN ON THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE.
VEHICLE WILL CRANK WITH IGNITION SWITCH IN ON POSITION. HOWEVER, IT WILL KEEP CRANKING AND WONT START. AFTER A COUPLE TRIES IT WILL FINALLY ROLL OVER AND START. VEHICLE HAS TURNED OFF WHILE IDLE FOR NO REASON BUT WILL START AFTER A COUPLE OF CRANKS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN A STATIONARY POSITION. THE IGNITION SWITCH IS OPERATED BY A KEY FOB. THE IGNITION SWITCH IS GETTING WORSE. IT TAKES MORE TRIES TO START.
TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AROUND 30 MILES PER HOUR AFTER JUST STARTING ABOUT 20 MINUTES AFTER SHUT OFF AND LISTENING TO RADIO WITH KEY IN ACCESSORY POSITION LOST BRAKES AND STEERING. TRACTION CONTROL WOULD NOT COME BACK ON TILL I STOPPED 10 MILES AFTER RESTARTING AND TURNED OFF. ONLY CAME BACK ON WITH ENGINE NOT ON.
THE VAN WILL JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE BEEN KEEPING TRACK IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS IT HAS SHUT OFF COMPLETELY 32 TIMES WHILE IN MOTIONS SOMETIMES STARTING RIGHT BACK UP OTHER TIMES TAKES SO CRANKING TO GET IT TO TURN OVER. LAST WEDNESDAY 10/14 THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL IN A 45 MPH ZONE AND THE VAN WENT RIGHT OFF THE ROAD LUCKILY NO DAMAGE AND NO ONE BEING INJURES. IF THAT WAS ON THE HIGHWAY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LOT MORE DANGEROUS. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY OF THIS YEAR HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO THE SLIDING POWER DOORS WILL NOT SHUT AND STAY SHUT WITHOUT HOLDING THEM WITH PRESSURE TO CLOSE THEY ALSO WILL CLOSE RANDOMLY AND ALMOST CLOSED ON MY 4 YEAR OLD IN IT LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PUT MY BODY IN THE DOOR SO SHE DID NOT GET SQUISHED. I CAN GIVE ME DETAIL ON EITHER IF YOU NEED ANY.
THE REAR SLIDING DOORS OF MY 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN HAS ISSUES. WHEN BEGINNING TO DRIVE AND THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY LOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR BUZZES A WARNING. PASSENGERS THINK THE DOOR IS ABOUT TO OPEN. SOMETIMES THE FOB WILL AND WON'T LOCK THE DOOR AS IT SHOULD. NO CONSISTENCY TO THIS FOB PROBLEM BUT THE BUZZING OCCURS EVERY TIME YOU PUT VAN INTO GEAR AND BEGIN DRIVING.
VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 85,000 MILES WAS WORKING FINE THEN FEW DAYS AGO WOULD NOT START. THE STARTER WORKED FINE BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. LET IT SIT FOR HALF AN HOUR AND IT STARTED ON FIRST CRANK SO I LET IS IT RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES. TURNED OFF AND LEFT FOR AN HOUR OR SO TRIED AGAIN AND HAD TO REPEAT ENTIRE PROCESS...VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY BECAUSE WE'RE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYWHERE. ORIGINAL OWNER IS IN A VA HEALTHCARE FACILITY AND HIS DAUGHTER AND ME (HUSBAND ARE HANDLING HIS AFFAIRS. BECAUSE OF THAT IT IS MY CONTACT INFO IMPUTED.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREET, APPROX 25MPH IT LOST TRANSMISSION ENGAGEMENT AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV, THE VEHICLE THEN CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT AND WOULD NOT MOVE. VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND THEN STARTED AGAIN, MOVING FROM PARK, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE. TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO COMPLETE FAILURE
ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND ALL ELECTRICAL GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. TYPICALLY VAN RESTARTS FINE BUT DOES IT AGAIN WHILE DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO CRANK OR START ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ADDITIONALLY, AFTER SWITCHING THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION, THE VEHICLE REMAINED RUNNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILED AND THE TIPM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AUTOLAND CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (170 ROUTE 22 EAST, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ 07081, (800) 288-6526) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V530000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NEITHER THE VIN NOR THE YEAR/MAKE/MODEL WERE INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,750.
IT STARTED WITH MY WIPERS CONTINUEING TO RUN AND WHEN THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE TIPM WAS DIAGNOSED BY TWO MACHANICS AS BEING THE ISSUE. IN WAITING TO HAVE THE FUNDS TO HAVE THE TIPM REPLACED MY CAR IS NOW SHIFTING INTO DRIVE 2 AND DRIVE1 ON ITS OWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT OTHER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE.
