WHILE PARKED IN MY ATTACHED GARAGE, SOME FUNCTION OF THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TURNS ON AND DRAINS THE BATTERY. A BOOST/CHARGE IS REQUIRED TO ENABLE THE CAR TO START. THE CAR IS NOW IN FOR THE FIFTH TIME FOR THIS CONDITION (11,097 MILES) AND THE DEALER HAS HAD THE CAR OVERNIGHT FOR A TOTAL OF 22 DAYS SO FAR. I AM UNSURE HOW LONG THEY WILL HAVE IT THIS TIME. MY CONCERN IS A FIRE MAY OCCUR IN THE VEHICLE DUE TO AN OVERLOAD CONDITION THAT MAY CAUSE MY HOUSE TO BURN DOWN AND A POSSIBLE LOSS OF LIFE. *TR
RENTED A MINIVAN FROM AVIS AT SLC AIRPORT LATE JULY 2013. ON THE HIGHWAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE AIRPORT MY KNEE BUMPED THE MASS OF KEYRING OBJECTS AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AS I WAS JUST GETTING UP TO 60MPH. I NOTICED THE VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN AND DETERMINED I HAD ACCIDENTALLY SHUT IT DOWN. IT WOULD NOT START. I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE. ONLY ONE OF THE 5 PASSENGERS EVEN NOTICED THE SLOWDOWN. UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. IF IT IS THE PRACTICE OF RENTAL COMPANIES TO BIND KEYS LIKE THIS THE PROBLEM COULD BE WIDESPREAD AND MAY HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT ALREADY, THUS THIS REPORT. GIVEN MY EXPERIENCE I BELIEVE THE PRACTICE OF BINDING ALL THE KEYS AND OTHER PLASTIC DOO-DAHS WITH A STIFF WIRE CABLE TO BE AN ACCIDENT IN THE WAITING. IN MY CASE THE SEAT WAS A LITTLE FORWARD AND I MOVED IT BACK A COUPLE OF INCHES TO AVOID HAVING THE KEYS DANCE ON MY KNEE AS WE DROVE. AT A STOP I CUT THE WIRE RING AND PUT ALL THE EXTRAS IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND CONTINUED THE TRIP WITH A SINGLE FOB-KEY. THE KEYS: I WAS GIVEN SET OF KEYS BOUND BY A WIRE CABLE. TWO FOBS, TWO SPARE KEYS (NORMALLY INSERTED IN THE FOBS) , THREE PLASTIC ADD-ONS (ONE HELD A PAPER SLIP IDENTIFYING THE VEHICLE, ONE AVIS CALL NUMBER AND ONE MACYS LOYALTY CARD) I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE AS IT WORKED FINE, NOR WITH THE RENTAL COMPANY AS THEIR SERVICE WAS ALSO FINE. I DO TAKE ISSUE WITH THE PRACTICE OF BINDING THE KEYS WITH A WIRE CABLE THAT MUST BE CUT (LEATHER-MAN TOOL IN MY CASE) TO DRIVE SAFELY. I SUSPECT MOST RENTERS WILL NOT HAVE A TOOL HANDY NOR RISK THE WRATH OF THE RENTER IN CUTTING THE WIRE CABLE. NOTE I TOOK A FEW PICTURES OF THE KEY RING AND OBJECTS SHOULD IT BE USEFUL. TO AVIS CREDIT THEY WERE HAPPY TO HAVE ALL THE KEYS RETURNED AND WERE NOT CONCERNED I'D CUT THE CABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN. THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD CONSTANTLY BECOME STUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000.
MORE THAN SIX MONTHS AGO, I RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE NUMBER: P25/NHTSA 14V-234. THIS NOTICE ADDRESSES THE POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE REAR QUARTER VENT WINDOW SWITCHES. I HAVE REQUESTED THAT THE DEALER REPAIR OR REPLACE THE SWITCH ON FOUR OCCASIONS. THE RESPONSE HAS ALWAYS BEEN "WE CANNOT GET THE REPAIR PARTS TO FIX THE CONDITION". THE DEALER ALSO SAID THAT THEY USUALLY JUST DISCONNECT THE SWITCH INSTEAD OF REPAIRING THE SAFETY DEFECT. I FIND THIS ANSWER TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, AND WANT MY VEHICLE REPAIRED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. PLEASE ADVISE ME WHAT THE NEXT STEP SHOULD FOR CORRECTION OF THE SAFETY RECALL ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT NOTICED A BURNING SMELL FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND NOTICED THAT THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET THAT WAS LOCATED ON THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WAS MELTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE WIPERS WOULD TURN ON WITHOUT BEING PROMPTED. THE WIPER SELECTION WAS TURNED TO AUTOMATIC, AND ON ALL OCCASIONS IT WAS CLEAR SUNNY DAYS. *TR
WE RENTED THE CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN TO TRANSPORT OUR FAMILY WHILE ON VACATION. A COUPLE OF DAYS INTO OUR VACATION, I PLACED MY RIGHT HAND AT THE TOP OF THE CAPTAIN SEAT IN THE MIDDLE ROW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VAN. I THEN USED MY LEFT HAND TO TRIGGER THE LEVER ON THE SEAT TO LEAN IT FORWARD SO ONE OF MY CHILDREN COULD GET OUT OF THE BACKSEAT MORE EASILY. THE HEADREST SNAPPED DOWN HITTING BOTH MY RIGHT MIDDLE FINGER AND MY RIGHT RING FINGER. THE POST OF THE HEAD REST BRUISED MY MIDDLE FINGER FROM THE TIP OF MY FINGER TO THE MIDDLE KNUCKLE. MY RING FINGER WAS PINCHED IN THE SLIT ON THE TOP OF THE SEAT WHERE THE POST ON THE HEADREST GOES WHEN THE SEAT FOLDS UP. WHEN MY FINGER WAS CRUSHED IN THE SLIT ON THE BACK OF THE SEAT, THE PAD OF MY RIGHT RING FINGER WAS CUT IN A SEMI-CIRCULAR SHAPE AND THE SKIN WAS PEELED BACK FROM THE FLESH. THE INJURY ON MY FINGER REQUIRED A TRIP TO URGENT CARE AND 4 STITCHES. IT TOOK ABOUT ONE AND A HALF MONTHS FOR THE INJURY TO HEAL. NOW, THE TIP OF MY FINGER IS SCAR TISSUE, WITH NO FEELING EXCEPT UNDERNEATH THE SCAR TISSUE WHERE THERE ARE STILL NERVES. I AM CURRENTLY UNABLE TO USE THE FINGER FOR TYPING OR OTHER ACTIVITIES THAT REQUIRE PRESSURE. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE IS A PRODUCT DEFECT AND A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE SEATS. THERE IS ONLY ONE LEVER ON THE SEAT TO PROVIDE FOR LEANING IT FORWARD, BACKWARD OR FOLDING IT COMPLETELY SO IT MAY BE STOWED. THE SPEED WITH WHICH THE SEAT FOLDS MAKES IT DANGEROUS. AS A RESULT, THERE SHOULD BE OTHER LEVERS AVAILABLE FOR ADJUSTING THE SEAT THAT DO NOT FORCE IT TO FOLD UP COMPLETELY. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS A FAILURE TO WARN OF THE DANGERS OF THE QUICKLY FOLDING SEAT, EITHER FROM THE MANUFACTURER OR THE RENTAL CAR COMPANY. THERE IS NO VISUAL WARNING LABEL ANYWHERE IN THE VEHICLE, WHICH WARNS THE USER TO KEEP THEIR HANDS AND BODY OUT OF THE WAY OF THE SEAT WHEN TRIGGERING THE LEVER.
TOOK DELIVERY OF A BRAND NEW 2013 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING VAN WITH 4 MILES ON IT ON THURSDAY, JUNE 20, 2013. DROVE IT HOME APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES. TOOK IT OUT FOR THE FIRST RIDE ON SATURDAY JUNE 22, 2013 AND WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND I LOST ALL POWER TO VEHICLE. STARTED IT BACK UP AND VEHICLE DID THIS AGAIN. CONTINUED TO START UP AND SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING ABOUT FOUR TIMES. CALLED ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP. SERVICE DEPARTMENT CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. CORPORATE OFFICE IS OF NO HELP. WITHOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM, THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT AND CHRYSLER HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM. THEY DID RECALL THEIR PRIOR MODELS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM - RECALL #72674.THE PROBLEM IS CONTINUING WITH THEIR NEWER MODELS BUT CHRYSLER DOES NOT SEEM INTERESTED. MEANWHILE, I HAVE A BRAND NEW VEHICLE SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP LESS THAN A WEEK OLD THAT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY FAMILY IN. THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 57 REPORTS IN THE CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY FORUM OF THIS EXACT PROBLEM - SOME INVOLVING ACCIDENTS WITH CHILDREN AS PASSENGERS. CHRYSLER IS SELLING UNSAFE VEHICLES PUTTING CHILDREN AT RISK OF SERIOUS HARM. I CAN PROVIDE THE NAMES OF ALL THE PEOPLE I SPOKE WITH AT CHRYSLER - THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE UNIT, AND THEIR TOP CARE UNIT - ALONG WITH ALL THOSE I AM DEALING WITH AT THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE A MEETING WITH THE DEALERSHIP MONDAY, JULY 1ST. HOWEVER, UNLESS THE PROBLEM IS FIXED, THIS VEHICLE REMAINS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE PUT CHRYSLER ON NOTICE, THE DEALERSHIP AND NOW YOU, THAT THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO THE PASSENGERS AND OTHER INNOCENT DRIVERS. RECALL NOTICE SENT TO US, DEALER CONTACT MADE, TEMPORARY DISCONNECT OF REAR WINDOW SWITCH DONE. PART IS UNAVAILABLE FOR CORRECT REPAIR . MONTHLY CALL TO DEALER SINCE JUNE 2014 AND 2 CALLS TO CHRYSLER INDICATE STILL NO PART AVAILABLE. WE CONTINUE WITHOUT OPERABLE REAR WINDOW VENTS AS WE LEAVE FOR STAY IN WARMER CLIMATES. *TR
THE VEHICLE DRIFTS TO THE RIGHT AT ANY SPEED BUT THE DRIFT IS GREATER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS TO BE HELD 8-10 DEGREES TO THE LEFT TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES AND STILL HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. *TR
(THE FOLLOWING IS QUOTED FROM THE DEALER WORK SHEET): "C/S WHILE DRIVING WAS PULLED OVER BY ANOTHER MOTORIST AND WAS TOLD THAT SMOKE WAS COMING FROM RIGHT REAR WHEEL AREA. HAS HEARD RUBBING NOISE FROM THIS AREA PREVIOUS TO THIS EVENT. (NOTE THAT NO ACTION WAS TAKEN THIS FIRST TIME. VEHICLE HAD APPROX. 1,000 MILES) CHECK AND ADVISE. TEST DROVE CHECK FOR TSB AND RACK AND INSPECTED: FOUND BOTH REAR BRAKES GOT HOT. CALIPER(S) ARE STICKING. (HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ON A FREEWAY AT 60 - 70 MPH IT COULD WELL HAVE BEEN A VERY DIFFERENT OUTCOME.) REPLACE REAR BRAKES, PADS, ROTORS AND CALIPERS." AN IRONIC SIDE ;NOTE: WE WERE PROVIDED WITH A 2011 CHRYSLER 200 VIN: [XXX] WITH 34,972 MILES. AS WE WERE RETURNING THIS VEHICLE I HAD TO MAKE A FAST STOP. AND THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE MADE GRINDING NOISE AND LOCKED UP MOMENTARILY. I REPORTED THIS TO THE SAME DEALER.... THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR MAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000.
AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, I LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. STEERING WAS VERY STIFF AND BRAKES WERE HARD. IT WAS SIMILAR TO WHEN THE CAR STALLS, BUT THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND ATTEMPTED TO PULL FORWARD. STILL NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND NO CHANGE. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO AND THEN RESTARTED IT. CAR WAS FINE THEN. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, NO INDICATORS LIT ON THE DASH. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR DETERMINE ANY CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY DID NOT TEST DRIVE THE CAR, AS IT STILL HAD THE SAME MILEAGE AS WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. *TR
RECEIVED AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM CHRYSLER ABOUT REAR QUARTER VENT WINDOW SWITCH. MANY MONTHS AGO I ALLOWED MY SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT SERVICES MY VAN TO DISCONNECT THIS SWITCH, BUT CHRYSLER DOES NOT SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THIS VAN FOR A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY AND WOULD THINK THEY COULD GET THIS SWITCH AND REPLACE AS THEIR FIRST NOTICE SAID THEY WOULD. WHILE I AM SENDING THIS COMPLAINT I HAVE BEEN ON HOLD WITH CHRYSLER FOR OVER TWENTY MINUTES NOW. *TR
IT'S BEEN IN EXCESS OF 2 YEARS TRYING TO GET CHRYSLER RECALL P25 FIXED...NO CONTACT TO DATE.
ON THE WAY HOME FROM PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I STOPPED TO WALK THE DOGS. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND WALKED OVER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. I OPENED THE DOOR WITH THE DOOR HANDLE. THE DOOR WAS ABOUT 3/4 OPEN WHEN I REACHED IN TO GET THE DOG'S LEASHES. EVEN THOUGH THE DOOR HADN'T COMPLETELY OPENED IT SUDDENLY STARTED CLOSING RAPIDLY. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY HEAD OUT BUT NOT MY ARM. THE DOOR CLOSED ON MY ARM AND TRAPPED ME. IN ORDER TO STOP THE CLOSING DOOR I GRABBED THE DOOR AND PULLED ON THE DOOR WITH MY LEFT HAND AND IT STOPPED. IF I HAD NOT REACTED THIS WAY THE DOOR WOULD HAVE CRUSHED MY ARM. I THEN HAD TO REACH OVER WITH MY LEFT HAND AND USE THE DOOR HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AND FREE MYSELF. I HAVE A COUPLE OF SCRAPES ON MY ARM, IT IS SLIGHTLY SWOLLEN AND SORE BUT LUCKILY IT DIDN'T BREAK. IF I HADN'T SEEN THE DOOR START TO CLOSE IT COULD HAVE TRAPPED MY HEAD. IF MY DOGS WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE DOORWAY THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THIS VEHICLE IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A SAFETY STOP IF ANYTHING IS IN THE DOORWAY. *TR

UCONNECT DROPS CALLS IN COLD WEATHER. RADIO MODULE FAILS TO TURN ON IN COLD WEATHER. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ON 7 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS DESPITE RADIO MODULE BEING REPLACED THREE TIMES SO FAR. CURRENTLY VEHICLE HAS WHITE MODULE SCREEN WITH SPIDER WEBBING, INTERMITTENT RADIO, NO BACK UP CAMERA WORKING, VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE PINCH SENSORS SLIDING AND REAR DOORS IN VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HER DOG WAS ALMOST CRUSHED BY THE SLIDING DOOR, THE DAY AFTER SHE LEASED THE VEHICLE. THE SALESPERSON STATED THE DOOR WOULD STOP, BUT THAT WAS NOT TRUE AS SHE LATER LEARNED WHEN THE SERVICE MANAGER TESTED IT. THOUGH IT WILL STOP WITH PUSH BACK FORCE, A LIMB OR SMALL PERSON WOULD BE CRUSHED. THE SERVICE MANAGER DETERMINED ALL THE OTHER VEHICLES ON THE LOT FUNCTIONED IN THE SAME MANNER. SO IT APPEARED THAT IT WAS NOT AN ISOLATED DEFECT. THE LIFTGATE ALSO REQUIRED INCREASING FORCE TO STOP. AS IT LOWERED, THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO STOP IT, WHEN IT WAS WITHIN A FOOT OR SO OF CLOSING.
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE WHEN 5 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER STARTED TO SCREAM. TURNED AND FOUND THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SECOND ROW SEAT HAD FOLDED ON HER AS THOUGH TO "STOW & GO". WAS SHOCKED THAT A) THE SEAT ALLOWS ITSELF TO FOLD WHEN OCCUPIED B) THERE IS NOT A SAFETY BUTTON ON IT THAT ENGAGES PREVENTING SEAT HANDLE FROM OPERATING AND FOLDING. CHILD HAD FALLEN ASLEEP AND STARTED TO SLIDE OFF SEAT. IN ORDER TO CORRECT HERSELF SHE PUSHED ON THE EDGE OF HER SEAT. THE SEAT APPEARED TO INTERPRET THIS AS A NEED TO "STOW & GO". CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THIS HANDLE AND BE FORCED TO REPLACE WITH A HANDLE WITH A SAFETY BUTTON OR REPLACE ALL THE SEATS WITH SEATS THAT ONLY FOLD WHEN NO WEIGHT ON THEM IS PRESENT. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SUNROOF COULD NOT BE OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF EITHER FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500.
