GEAR SHIFT STUCK IN PARK POSITION. *TR
WE BOUGHT THIS CAR USED WITH 3 YEAR WARRANTY FROM DRIVE TIME. FROM FIRST TIME ON FREEWAY WE NOTICED AT 70 MPH STARTED DEATH WOBBLE. TOOK IT TO DEALERS MECHANIC AND HE SAID NOTHING WRONG .TO GET THE BALANCE DONE . WE HAVE HAD THE BALANCE DONE , ALL 4 TIRES REPLACED WITH MANUFACTURES SUGGESTED SIZE TIRE, AND STILL GET THE DEATH WOBBLE AT ABOUT 70-74 MPH. *TR

THE WHOLE GEAR SHIFT CONSOLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND IT'S VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH MOST OF THE DODGE AND CHRYSLERS VEHICLES HAVE BEEN HAVING THESE PROBLEMS FOR YEARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT 20 MPH AND OVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALWAYS RESTART AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR PRODUCE A FAILURE CODE FROM THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A TOTAL OF 45 TIMES AND THE DEALER WAS NEVER ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED HE WAS PREVIOUSLY INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHERE THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND HE CRASHED INTO TREES. THERE WERE FRONT END DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE YET THE CONTACT WAS UNINJURED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AS 25,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
I HAVE HAD MY 2008 DODGE AVENGER FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS. CAR HAS NO PROBLEMS WHEN I DROVE IT EARLIER IN THE DAY. THE CAR CRANKED WITH NO PROBLEMS, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO PUT IT IN GEAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAVE A 2008 DODGE AVENGER WITH 40,800 MILES ON IT. I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE GEAR SHIFTER STUCK IN PARK . THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON IN MANY DODGE VEHICLES , IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY CHEAP PLASTIC PART . COULD THERE BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM???? *TR
APRIL 5, 2010 MY 2008 DODGE AVENGER TOTALLY STALLED OUT ON ME AND I HAD TO MANEUVER MY VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT MY VEHICLE INTO PARK. THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT IN WHICH THIS HAS HAPPENED,THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 55 MPH AND STALLED OUT WITH TRAFFIC IN BACK OF ME.I CURRENTLY HAVE MY VEHICLE IN THE SHOP BECAUSE MY CAR SHUT DOWN ONCE AGAIN AND THE RADIO COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. EVERYTIME THIS HAPPEN THERE ARE NO CODES WHICH APPEAR ON THE DIAGNOSTICS. I AM CONFUSED WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS VEHICLE IT IS UNSAFE AND WANT TO KNOW WHAT I CAN DO. *TR
THE GEAR SHIFTER GOT STUCK IN PARK. IT HAD WORKED FINE PREVIOUSLY WITHOUT ANY HITCHES. WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE DEC. 2009 AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE GEAR SHIFT STICKING. THEN ONE NIGHT IT WAS JUST STUCK. WE HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK AND THE GUY HAD TO MANUALLY PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE SO WE COULD GET IT TO THE DEALER. *TR
2008 DODGE AVENGER. WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK INTO ANY GEAR PAST REVERSE. CAN GET IT TO GO INTO REVERSE IF HOLD THE SHIFTER MANUALLY, BUT FEELS SPRING LOADED BACK INTO PARK.
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE CONTACT OBSERVED THE COLUMN SHIFT WAS STUCK IN THE PARK POSITION. THERE WERE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE GEAR SHIFTED FROM THE PARK POSITION INTO ANOTHER POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THAT INFORMED THE GEAR SHIFT FAILURE WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. THERE WAS NOT A RECALL OR SERVICE WARRANTY RELATED ISSUE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE ENTIRE GEAR SHIFTER REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THE OWNER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SERVICE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,500. UPDATED 11/05/10. *LJ
MY DAUGHTER WAS LEAVING HER JOB AT 1130PM WHEN HER CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. WE ATTEMPTED THE SUGGESTIONS IN THE MANUAL WHICH MADE IT SEEM LIKE THIS WAS A SAFETY FEATURE. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT. AND THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME TO REMOVE THE SHIFT CONSOLE AND PULL THE PINK SWITCH AND IT RELEASE PARK AND I WOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT. I DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. THEY KNEW THE EXACT PROBLEM (MUST HAVE HAD BEFORE). THE SHIFTER AND THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED IN TWO DAYS. WAS VERY SATISFIED WITH THE SERVICE DEPT. MANY MORE COMPLAINTS WERE NOTED ON THE INTERNET, BUT STATED NO RECALL. *TR
BOUGHT THE CAR USED. 41,000 MILES. CAR STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT STOP LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS WHEN IT IS RAINING. TALKED WITH DEALER AND STATED NOTHING NOTED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. HE STATED THAT BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS HAD WORN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SANDED DOWN THE BRAKES BUT THE PROCEDURE DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. FURTHERMORE, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMATED ALONG WITH THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT, FOLLOWED BY THE ENGINE OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP IN REGARDS TO THE ENGINE FAILURE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,000.
CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE ON A 2008 DODGE AVENGER ON I 271. *TR
I OWN A 2008 DODGE AVENGER AND IT HAS THE ISSUE OF GETTING STUCK IN THE PARK GEAR. IT'S NEVER HAPPENED UNTIL NOW AND IT CONSTANTLY KEEPS HAPPENING NOW. I'VE READ ON FORUMS WHERE MANY MORE DODGE AVENGER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SOME PROBLEM. IF I CAN'T MOVE MY CAR FROM PARK THEN I CAN'T DRIVE IT ANYWHERE. I'VE CALLED DODGE IN WHICH THEY MENTION THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS, BUT I BELIEVE IT A DEFECT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND SUDDENLY THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WITH A DELAYED RESPONSE. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES FOR THE IDENTICAL DEFECT AND BOTH FRONT BRAKES WERE REPLACED EACH TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE CONTINUOUS MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,900.
I HAVE TAKEN MY 2008 DODGE AVENGER TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS ON 3 OCCASIONS FOR STALLING PROBLEMS. I HAVE THE INVOICES. THEY CONTINUE TO SAY THEY CANNOT VERIFY THE COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE IDLING AND TONIGHT WHEN I PULLED OUT IT ALMOST STALLED. I RESEARCHED IT ONLINE AND THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE REPORTS OF A RECALL FROM 2008 FOR THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM AS WELL AS THE EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE WITH MY GIRLS IN THE CAR. *TR

ON MARCH 5, 2010 (FRIDAY) - APPROXIMATELY 5:30 P.M., WHILE DRIVING ON SUNRISE HIGHWAY IN LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK, AN INDICATOR LIGHT WENT ON INSIDE MY 2008 DODGE AVENGER, IN THE SHAPE OF A LIGHTNING BOLT IN MY CAR. LITERALLY 30 SECONDS LATER, AND BEFORE THERE WAS TIME TO REACT AT ALL, MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO STOP MY VEHICLE. I HAD JUST ABOUT MADE IT TO THE EXIT RAMP WHEN I REALIZED BY LOOKING IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM MY CAR. AS I HAD STEERED ONTO THE EXIT RAMP, I OPENED THE DOOR AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING FROM THE UNDERNEATH PART OF MY CAR. WITHOUT THINKING TWICE I JUMPED FROM THE MOVING VEHICLE (WHICH AT THE TIME STILL WAS GOING AT ABOUT 20 MPH). I WAS NOT HURT PHYSICALLY BUT WAS EXTREMELY SHAKEN UP. ANOTHER TRAVELER WHO HAD PULLED UP ON THE SERVICE ROAD TO HELP ME, INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE FOR AT LEAST 1/4 OF A MILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THAT HE HAD BEEN ATTEMPTING TO FLAG ME DOWN. AFTER I HAD ESCAPED THE VEHICLE, THE CAR CONTINUED IN A DIAGONAL PATH TOWARD ONCOMING RUSH HOUR HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. THE FIRE CONTINUE TO BURN AND HAD BECOME VERY BAD, TO THE POINT WHERE THE ENTIRE FRONT HALF OF THE CAR WAS ABLAZE. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE OUT OF CONTROL VEHICLE WAS A WIRE FENCE IN THE DIVIDER BETWEEN THE SERVICE ROAD AND MAIN HIGHWAY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND MANUFACTURER ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF INVESTIGATING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TOOK AT LEAST 15-20 MINS TO RESPOND WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BECOME SEVERELY DAMAGED TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS NOW EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO ASCERTAIN A CAUSE. MY INSURANCE ONLY COVERED MY CAR LOAN AND NOW I AM OUT MONEY FOR THE DOWN PAYMENT ON A NEW VEHICLE. THIS SITUATION IS VERY SERIOUS. THERE COULD HAVE BEEN CHILDREN OR ELDERLY PERSONS IN THE VEHICLE WHO COULD HAVE DIED. PLEASE HELP ME INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE. I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY TO STILL HAVE MY LIFE AND EVALUATE THE SITUATION AS HAVING INITIATED A DUTY TO KEEP OTHERS SAFE FROM DANGERS OF THE SAME. *TR
I OWN A 2008 DODGE AVENGER R/T. WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF DOES NOT ENGAGE AND THE FUEL ERUPTS OUT OF THE CAR. THE ONLY TWO OPTIONS FOR A FIX ARE TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK OR GUESS THE AMOUNT OF FUEL TO PUT INTO THE CAR. THIS HAPPENS ON ANY AND EVERY PUMP THAT I USE REGARDLESS OF WHAT PUMP OR WHAT STATION I GO TO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER AWD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SEAT, HARNESS AND SENSORS BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,323.
THE CAR WILL AUTOMATICALLY SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND THE SHIFTER THEN THE CAR WILL LOCK UP, AND ONCE YOU PUT THE CAR INTO PARK IT WILL NOT SHIFT FROM PARK. THIS HAPPENED TO ME AND I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. AFTER MUCH FRUSTRATION AND TRYING TO SHIFT THE CAR OUT OF PARK. THE LEVER THAT WAS HOLDING THE CAR IN PARK SLIPPED OUT OF PLACE AND ALLOWED ME TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND ME AND THE OFFICER HELPING ME WERE ABLE TO PUSH THE CAR TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION. THIS OCCURS OFTEN AND HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES SINCE THAT TIME WHICH WAS THE FIRST. TO REPLACE THE PROBLEM IS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER. THIS COST $270.00. THERE HAS BEEN MANY CASES THAT I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS HAPPENING. IT ALSO SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO EVERYBODY AROUND 40,000 TO 50,000 MILES ON THE CAR. *TR
THE LATCH THAT LETS YOU TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK IS MALFUNCTIONING THAT ONLY ALLOWS YOU TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK BY PUSHING A PINK LATCH BUTTON UNDER THE SHIFTER. *TR
GAS TANK DOES NOT STOP FILLING UP UNTIL IT OVERFLOWS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, ALL THE GEAR SHIFTER INDICATORS HAD SQUARES AROUND THEM AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD DIFFICULTY SHIFTING INTO THE CORRECT GEAR. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I PURCHASED THE 2008 DODGE AVENGER LAST YEAR AND I'VE NOTICED NOT EVEN ONCE THE BRAKES WERE NEWLY INSTALLED AT 20,000 MILES YOU CAN FEELING THE BRAKING SYSTEM THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE SHIFTING. WITHOUT WARNING AFTER CLASS THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT MOVE FROM PARK. LEAVING ME STRANDED. THE ENGINE RUNS FINE, AND I FOLLOWED THE MANUAL AND OTHER SUGGESTIONS BY THE DEALER. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE FOR THIS TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY? THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND DODGE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I HAVE BEEN TO MANY SITES REGARDING THIS ISSUE. ACCORDING TO DODGE THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. AND WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER THIS ISSUE! *TR
WHEN I FILL UP MY GAS TANK. I GET A SPLASH BACK OF GAS THAT COMES OUT AND DOWN THE SIDE OF MY CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. THE VEHICLE STALLED CONSTANTLY WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE BRAKE PEDAL AND WHEN SHE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF THE BRAKES WOULD RESET. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT OFFER HER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH TRADING IN THE VEHICLE. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER TOLD HER THAT SHE HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 350 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE SEIZED. ON OTHER OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATED AND THEN DRAGGED. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT DETACHED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE THERMOSTAT, CLOCKSPRING, ECM MANIFOLD, THROTTLE BODY, STARTER, BATTERY, AIR FAN, INTEGRATED POWER MODULE, AIR CONDITIONER, COMPRESSOR, INTAKE RUNNER, STEERING WHEEL, AND ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BROCKTON CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (241020 BELMONT ST, BROCKTON, MA 02301, (781) 961-1550), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
I HAVE A 2008 DODGE AVENGER AND THE VEHICLE IS STUCK IN PARK AND NO MANUAL OVERRIDE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AS WELL AS SPOKE WITH SOMEONE WITH DODGE/CHRYSLER AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAVE NOT PLACED A RECALL OR TSB ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR ME. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND THEIR ARE AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *TR THANK YOU
I HAVE BEEN VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY 2008 AVENGER.. SEEMS LIKE I'VE EXPERIENCED ONE PROBLEM AFTER THE OTHER.. THE FIRST WAS THE TPMS, WHICH A RECALL WAS MADE AND THAT WAS FIXED. 2ND I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE GEAR SHIFT BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T COME OUT OF PARK... I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THEY SAW A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE ON THOSE PARTS AND ALOT OF THE AVENGERS WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. 3RD, NOW THE BEARINGS INSIDE THE ALTERNATOR HAVE BROKE.. AND I HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ALTERNATOR ITSELF. WE AGAIN CALLED THE DODGE HOUSE AND THEY ALSO EXPLAINED HOW MANY REQUEST THEY ARE GETTING REF THIS PART AND HAVING TO KEEP THEM IN STOCK CONTINUOUSLY. EVERYONE I KNOW THAT HAS AN AVENGER HAVE ALL EXPERIENCED ALL OF THESE SAME PROBLEMS.. AND MY QUESTION IS AT WHAT POINT DOES DODGE START ISSUING A RECALL?? IF DODGE CAN CALL THE DEALERSHIPS AND GET A TALLY ON ALL AMOUNT OF REPLACEMENT PARTS THEY WOULD BE SURPRISED AND REALIZE THAT A RECALL DOES NEED TO BE IN EFFECT. *TR

I HAVE WAITED THERE FOR 5 HOURS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABOUT TO FIX THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY FIXED THE RECALL PROBLEM. TODAY (01/01/10) I HAVE CHECKED THE DODGE HOMEPAGE AGAIN AND TYPED MY VIN TO SEE IF THEY REALLY FIXED THE RECALL AND I SAW THAT THE STATUS IS STILL INCOMPLETE. SHOULD I FIND ANOTHER DEALER AND GET THAT CAR FIXED? ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE ALIGNMENT OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE DEALER ALSO TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. A LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE MOTOR. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V152000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR WOULD BE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER TO VERIFY THE VIN IN REGARDS TO THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND SECOND GEAR. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL UNTIL THE FAILURE BEGAN TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT ICE WAS BUILDING UP INSIDE OF THE THROTTLE BODY AIR HORN AND CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED YET THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE HAD NOT RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
I PURCHASED A 2008 DODGE AVENGER DEC. 31, 2008. IT WAS A USED VEHICLE, THE FIRST PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN 5-6 MONTHS OF HAVING THE CAR, IT WOULD STALL WHEN CRANKING AND HAD CUT OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLAIM THEY COULDN'T FIND WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING. THEY FIX THAT. NOW 10 MONTHS AFTER HAVING THE CAR I'M IN THE CAR AND TRYING TO REVERSE AND CAN'T. THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT MY WARRANTY JUST RAN OUT. THE PART COSTS 200.00. I CAN'T AFFORD THAT AND I DON'T THINK I SHOULD BECAUSE I HADN'T EVEN HAD THE CAR FOR A YEAR. THEY TOLD ME I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS I HAD A WARRANTY. MY 2008 DODGE AVENGER IS HAVING A MAJOR SHIFTING ISSUE. WHEN YOU SHIFT THE CAR INTO DRIVE IT WILL POP OUT AND LAND INTO NUTURAL. THERE IS ALSO TIMES THAT THIS WILL BE VERY HARD TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THERE IS SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET THAT SHOWS THE SAME ISSUES. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE HEARD COMPLAINTS BUT HAS NOT HEARD OF A RECALL. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WILL COST ME TO BRING IT IN TO GET IT LOOKED AT.
