THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTIFICATION IN MAY OF 2015. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
IT WAS OBSERVED THAT A GAS SMELL WAS NOTICED WHILE IN MY CAR WHEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND THREW OUT MY VEHICLE CABIN. AFTER A DAY OR SO I CALLED THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND REQUESTED TO BRING IT IN DUE TO A STRONG GAS VAPOR SMELL COMING FROM MY VEHICLE. THEY ACTED VERY UNCONCERNED AND SAID NO APPOINTMENT WAS AVAILABLE UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. SAME DAY I TOOK MY CARE TO A SERVICE SHOP AND ASKED THEM TO RUN A DIAGNOSTICS CHECK TO LOCATE THE SMELL. AFTER A HOUR THE SERVICE REPAIR MAN LOCATED AND FOUND THAT MY RIGHT REAR FUEL MODULE WAS LEAKING GAS UNDERNEATH MY RIGHT PASSENGER REAR BACK SEAT. IMMEDIATELY I CALLED BACK TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE HEALTH HAZARD OF DRIVING AROUND IN A CAR BOMB. AT THAT POINT I WAS REQUESTED TO BRING MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP. COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE FUEL TANK ITSELF. THE NEW PLASTIC GAS TANKS THEY USE SOMETIMES SHIFT FROM OVER EX-POSER TO THE WEATHER ELEMENTS AND BROKE THE SEAL OF THE O - RING TO THE FUEL MODULE THAT IS CONNECTED TO MY GAS TANK. THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE NEW GAS TANKS AND THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY GAS TANK AND FUEL MODULE TO FIX THE DEFECT.

2 DAYS PRIOR TO FAILURE I NOTICED A WHINING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE AFTER WHICH THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN UNTIL 4/2/15. ON 4/2/15, UPON RETURNING HOME AFTER DRIVING THE CAR, I NOTICED THE WINDOWS WERE VERY SLOW TO ROLL UP. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TRIED A RESTART, WOULD NOT START, APPEARED TO BE A DEAD BATTERY. WHEN WIFE ARRIVED HOME WE JUMP STARTED THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER. ON THE WAY THE CAR WAS VERY SLUGGISH, ALMOST STALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND VARIOUS DASH LIGHTS CAME ON; BATTERY, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL. THE CAR FINALLY STALLED ABOUT 1/8TH MILE FROM DEALER AND WAS TOWED THE REST OF THE WAY. ON FRIDAY, 4/3, A SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WERE BAD. IT WAS AT THAT TIME I LEARNED ABOUT A RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR WAS IN PROGRESS FOR 2011 TO 2014 V-6 EQUIPPED CHRYSLER VEHICLES. MY CAR IS A 2010 WITH A 5.7L V-8, HOWEVER AFTER CHECKING POST ON A CHALLENGER FORUM, I DISCOVERED MY CAR HAD THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE V-6 EQUIPPED VEHICLES PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. I SPOKE WITH A SERVICE TECH WHO SAID HE KNOWS OF OTHER V-8 EQUIPPED CHALLENGERS THAT SUFFERED AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE AND WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE RECALL IS EXPANDED. ALSO, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE BATTERY IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY ESP EVEN THOUGH THE ALTERNATOR IS CLEARLY THE CAUSE OF THE BATTERY FAILURE. *TR

WHILE DOING AN OIL CHANGE ON MY CAR, I FOUND THAT THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS LEAKING WHERE THE HOSE IS CRIMPED TO THE HARD LINE. AFTER SOME ONLINE SEARCHING I FOUND RECALL 10V475000 RELATED TO THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, CHRYSLER DOES NOT INCLUDE THE BUILD DATE OF MY VEHICLE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY VEHICLE, WHICH WAS BUILT ONLY A FEW MONTHS PRIOR TO THE RECALL, WOULD NOT BE COVERED WHEN THE ISSUE OCCURRING WITH MY VEHICLE IS IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL. POWER STEERING LINES ON A 3 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD NOT FAIL THIS EARLY. *TR
WHILE DRIVIVG ON MY WAY HOME DOING ABOUT 60MPH IN THE RIGHT LANE ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I COULDN'T EVEN STEER THE CAR, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP NO BREAKING CAPEABILITY, HAD TO LET THE CAR COAST INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, LUCKLY THERE WEREN'T ANY CARS IN FRONT OR BEHAIND ME. WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. WHILE IN THE EMERGENCY LANE PUT THE CAR IN PARK TURNED OFF THER IGNITION, TURNED ON THE IGNITION PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE CAR WOULD MOVE, PUT IT BACK IN PARK TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AGAIN, STARTED IT AGAIN PUT IN DRIVE. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 10V475000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,364.
I WAS TRAVELING ON SR 10 EASBOUND AND AFTER PASSING THE FL STATE LINE COMING FROM ALABAMA, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT THE ENGINE STOPPED. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DODGE DEALERSHIP TO PENSACOLA, FL. THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE BROKEN TIMING BELT CHAIN THAT DODGE HAS A NATIONAL RECALL ON. THE REPAIR COST OF THE DAMAGE IS $4500 (VALVES, CYLINDER-HEAD ETC.) AND DODGE WOULD NOT GIVE AUTHORIZATION TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR IT FREE OF CHARGE TO ME CLAIMING THAT THE CAR HAS A REBUILT TITLE. THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE, IT'S A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT MY CAR WAS IN A SMALL ACCIDENT AND IT'S REAR WAS REPAIRED BY USING ORIGINAL PARTS. IT WAS INSPECTED AND GIVEN NOT A SALVAGE BUT A REBUILT TITLE THAT IS A MARKETABLE TITLE.I BELIEVE THAT BY LAW THEY SHOULD BE OBLIGATED TO REPAIR IT. *TR
WINDOWS ARE SUPPOSE TO GO DOWN JUST A BIT WHEN DOOR HANDLES ARE TOUCHED TO BE ABLE TO OPEN & CLOSE DOOR. MINE DONT WORK ALL THE TIME..IT HAS DONE THIS WHEN ITS COLD & HOT OUT--SO TEMPERATURE IS NOT AFFECTING DOOR. HAVE TAKEN TO 2 DEALERSHIPS WHO HAVE CHECKED THEM BY TRYING THEM 1 TIME AND SAID THEY WORKED FINE-- I GET LOCKED IN AND OUT OF CAR AND HAVE TO FORCIBLY OPEN THE DOOR BY HITTING IT WITH MY FULL WEIGHT & SHOULDER TO GET OUT OF CAR WHILE ITS PARKED.
I HEARD A TERRIBLE WHINE AND THEN SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE HOOD AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY, I WAS A BLOCK AWAY FROM MY HOUSE SO I PULLED IT INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE ALTERNATOR WINDINGS WERE BLACK AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. BATTERY DIED FROM NOT BEING CHARGED. I REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR FROM A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE AND THE CAR RUNS FINE. I WAS ALSO ABLE TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY AND IT STILL IS WORKING. BY THE WAY, THE CAR USED TO DIE ONCE A MONTH OR SO WHEN I WOULD BE TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING LOT. SINCE I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, I DO NOT HAVE THAT PROBLEM ANYMORE. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DRIVING DOWN ROAD ALONE WITH NO OTHER CARS PASSING SUNROOF EXPLODED INTO A MILLION PIECES.
CAR SHUT DOWN/POWERED OFF/TURNED OFF ON IT'S OWN, WHILE DRIVING. RAPID AUTOMATIC DOWN SHIFT OF GEARS BRAKING FROM ABOUT 65 TO TURN/WHILE TURNING LEFT ONTO SIDE STREET ON ROAD. CAR DIED AFTER STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TURNING TO LEFT AND CAR WAS TURNING. LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. NEARLY SLAMMED INTO EMBANKMENT AND BLOCKED INTERSECTION AREA. VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL/HARD TO SAFE VEHICLE: HARD TO TURN, STOP, AND RESTART. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON/NO ODB CODES STORED. THIS WAS SPECIFICALLY SCARY AS PEOPLE DRIVE THROUGH HERE FAST AND VISIBILITY IS VERY SHORT. AFTER THIS EVENT AND THE EVENT IN JULY, I BECAME AFRAID I COULD DIE IN THIS CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID A FEW ERROR CODES WERE SAVED IN OUTER CAR SYSTEMS THAT SHOWED COMMUNICATION WITH PCM HAD BEEN LOST. THEY WERE REPLACING THE PCM. HOWEVER, REPLACING THE PCM DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT HAS DIED 3 TIMES SINCE I STARTED DRIVING IT IN THE SPRING THIS YEAR. THIS IS DANGEROUS!!! THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. PLEASE HELP.
CAR SHUT DOWN/POWERED OFF/TURNED OFF ON IT'S OWN, WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH ON A STATE HIGHWAY. CAR DIED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AT RUSH HOUR. LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL/HARD TO SAFE VEHICLE: HARD TO TURN, STOP, AND RESTART. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON/NO ODB CODES STORED. SCARY DANGEROUS. THIS NEARLY CAUSED A MULTI CAR ACCIDENT. THE RISK ASSOCIATED WITH THESE SHUT DOWN EVENTS WAS INCREASING DRASTICALLY.
HAVE A 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER WITH LESS THAN 40,000 MILES. TOOK CAR TO SHOP AT DODGE DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON (AT 38,000 MILES). AFTER NOT DIAGNOSING MY CAR CORRECTLY ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THEY FINALLY "DETERMINED" THAT THE CAR NEEDED A NEW POWER MODULE, AND SEVERAL ENGINE SENSORS WERE FAULTY AND NOT WORKING. *TR
HARD SHIFTING SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WHEN STOPPED THE CAR FAILS TO ENGAGE FIRST GEAR AND IS ALSO EXTREMELY HARD TO GET INTO REVERSE. BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR A FEW DAYS NOW AND IS GETTING HARDER TO SHIFT WHILE DRIVING.DODGE HAS A STAR CASE NOTICE (STAR CASE # [XXX]-BAD GREASE IN THE 2009 TREMECS) ABOUT GREASE ON THE INPUT SHAFT SPLINE THAT THE CLUTCH SLIDES ON GETTING DIRTY FROM TOO MUCH GREASE AND DIRT WHICH MAKES THE DISC STICK AND NOT FULLY DISENGAGING.THIS TRANSMISSION IS ALSO IN THE NEW CHEVY CAMARO AND FORD MUSTANG SO IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION MANUFACTURER TREMEC. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT OR ASSEMBLY LINE DEFECT AND SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH INJURY OCCUR. 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THERE APPEARED TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION STICKING BETWEEN SHIFTS AS WELL AS BECOMING STUCK AFTER PARK. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE GREASE ON THE INPUT SHAFT SPLINES COLLECTING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF DIRT, WHICH DID NOT ALLOW SMOOTH MOVEMENT OF THE CLUTCH DISC ON THE INPUT SHAFT. *JB
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 35 MPH. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER RT TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED MY THERE WAS ISSUES WITH THE TIMING CHAIN AND THAT WAS THE REASON FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THAT THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE TO ME FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN. WHEN I PICKED UP MY 2010 CHALLENGER RT A WEEK LATER THE CHECK ENGINE WAS STILL ON AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO DIAGNOSE IT FURTHER. THE NEXT DAY THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THE MDS SOLENOID WIRING TO THE MAIN HARNESS HAD MELTED AND THAT THE ENGINE HARNESS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY OR MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT IT WOULD BE $2000 OUT OF POCKET TO ME. THE DEALERSHIP NEVER GAVE ANY EXPLANATION WHY THE WIRING MELTED AT THE MDS SOLENOID TO THE MAIN HARNESS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME I ONLY HAD 38,000 MILES ON MY CAR. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE MADE A GRINDING SOUND AND FAILED TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR CAUSING THE BRAKES TO SEIZE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V444000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE AIR BAG INDEPENDENTLY DEPLOYED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. STILL DOESN'T COOL. FREON HAS BEEN DRAINED AN REFILLED NOW 5 TIMES DURING TROUBLE SHOOTING. COME TO THINK ABOUT IT. THE CAR HAS STALLED TWICE ON ME TURNING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AT MY LODGE. COMPUTER INDICATED "CAM SHAFT SENSOR FAILURE". REP ADVISED REMOVE SENSOR, LOOK TO SEE IF "GEAR" TURNS WHEN ENGINE IS CRANKED. IF GEAR TURNED THEN TIMING CHAIN OK, AND IT WAS JUST A BAD SENSOR. IF GEAR DIDN'T TURN THEN THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE. VEHICLE TOWED HOME AND SENSOR REMOVED. GEAR DIDN'T TURN WHEN ENGINE CRANKED, SO THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO DEALER. WAS DRIVING ON 4TH OF JULY FOR A HOLIDAY CELEBRATION. SHIFTED FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR AT 35 MPH AND THE SHIFTER HANDLE BROKE OFF. I HAD TO VERY CAREFULLY TURN AROUND AND DRIVE HOME WITH THIS BROKEN SHIFTER HANDLE. AT ONE POINT THE HANDLE CAME OUT OF THE MOUNT AND I HAD TO FIND THE HOLE AGAIN FOR THE SHIFT HANDLE WITH THE DUST BOOT OBSCURING MY VIEW WHILE DRIVING. SINCE IT WAS A HOLIDAY WEEKEND I DECIDED THIS WAS A TIME TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER HANDLE WITH THE HURST SHIFTER HANDLE SUPPLIED BY DODGE AS A PART OF MY AUTO PURCHASE USING MOPAR BUCKS. AFTER I INSTALLED THIS STRONGER SHIFTER/HANDLE I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE DEALER TO SHOW THEM THE OBVIOUS SAFELY HAZARD FROM THE BROKEN SHIFTER HANDLE. THE DEALER TOOK THIS OPPORTUNITY TO RIDICULE ME AND MAKE IT APPEAR THAT I MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG TO BREAK A PART LIKE THIS. I ASKED THEM TO CONTACT DODGE TO NOTIFY THEM OF A SAFETY HAZARD AND THEY WOULD NOT DO THIS. THEY TOLD ME MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I BELIEVE THE WEAK ALLOY IN DODGE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER SHIFT HANDLES SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM PRODUCTION AND REPLACED WITH STRONGER STEEL LIKE THE SHIFT HANDLE SUPPLIED WITH HURST SHIFTERS. I BELIEVE THE ENGINEERS AT DODGE NEED TO KNOW THESE PARTS ARE BREAKING FROM REGULAR USE. THIS IS A SAFELY HAZARD. I HAVE THE BROKEN SHIFT HANDLE FOR INSPECTION IF ANYBODY IN INTERESTED. *TR

AFTER 4 DAYS IN THE SHOP IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE WHICH IN TURN CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE, BENT VALVES, DAMAGED PISTONS ETC. UPON SEARCHING THE WEB I FOUND 39 INSTANCES OF THIS FAILURE ON ONE FORUM. PARTICULARLY MODEL YEARS 2009 TO 2011 AND CARS WITH 35 TO 40,000 MILES AND MDS. MINE HAS 44,000 AND ALL FACTORY MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN FOLLOWED. THIS IS PARTICULARLY TROUBLESOME AS SHOULD THIS EVENT HAPPEN IN A HEAVY TRAFFIC OR PASSING SITUATION THERE COULD BE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AS ONE HAS NO POWER TO DO ANYTHING. IT IS CLEAR FROM THE NUMBER OF INSTANCES AND WARRANTY CLAIMS THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE WHICH I FIND TROUBLING.
