I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR ROUTINE ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT AND TIRE ROTATION. AFTER RECEIVING IT BACK I NOTICED A HUMMING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE DASH INFORMATION CENTER TELLING ME THAT THE CAR IS NOW IN BATTERY SAVER MODE.. READING THROUGH THE FORUMS IT SEEMS THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITH PEOPLE DRIVING THE SAME CAR AS ME AND THIS HAS ALWAYS LED TO ENGINE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE FIRE OR ACCIDENT. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, FOR THE PAST 2-3 MONTHS, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY FOR NO REASON, REGARDLESS OF ANYTHING ON ME SEATS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 55 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I NOTICED A MESSAGE APPEAR ON MY CAR STATING "BATTERY ON SAFE MODE". A FEW MINUTES AFTER THAT MESSAGE APPEARED I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHT POPPED UP, ALONG WITH THE BATTERY SIGN, AND FUEL LIGHT. AS I EXITED THE FREEWAY I STARTED SMELLING SMOKE SO I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION. MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. ALL POWER WAS GONE. I TRIED JUMP STARTING THE CAR A FEW TIMES. THE FIRST TIME I NEVER GOT A CHARGE. THE SECOND TIME I LET THE CAR SIT 5 MINS TO CHARGE AND WAS ABLE TO GET POWER BUT THE SAME MESSAGES APPEARED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE 3RD AND FINALLY TIME I TRIED, THE POWER CUT ON BUT ONCE I DISCONNECTED THE CABLES THE POWER SHUT DOWN AGAIN. I ENDED UP GETTING THE CAR TOWED AND LATER FOUND OUT THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED DUE TO THE ALTERNATOR BEING BAD. SO THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT. I'M GLAD I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO THE GAS STATION THAT DAY, INSTEAD OF THE CAR SHUTTING DOWN ON THE FREEWAY. I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVILABLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
MY CAR WAS STALLING OR SLIPPING AS I DROVE, AND I GOT TO A GROCERY CAR AND PARKED IT, I CUT IT OFF AND WHEN I CAME BACK AND TRIED TO RESTART IT. IT WAS DEAD. I CALLED AAA, AND HE SAID MY ALTERNATOR WAS BAD AND IT WAS CAUSING MY BATTERY TO GO DEAD. I GOT IT HOME AND HAVEN'T DROVE IT SINCE. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE PRICE OF THE ALTERNATOR SO I STARTED DRIVING MY OTHER CAR. I THEN CHECKED TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THE ISSUE. I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE A RECALL, WHEN I CALLED MY DEALER THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL IT CAME OUT IF IT WAS REALLY A RECALL. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT AS WELL, WHILE IT WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION. I HAVEN'T DROVE MY CAR IN A MONTH, WAITING ON NOV. 28TH, BUT TODAY I FOUND THIS WEBSITE AND DECIDED TO ADD MY EXPERIENCE. SO GLAD I WASN'T DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT PROVIDE AN INTERIM REPAIR UNTIL THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,502.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING AROUND 20 MPH, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THE ESC, ABS, ETC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ALL AT ONCE AND I HAD TO QUICKLY GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT THE USE OF GAS. THE GEAR SHIFT WAS STUCK AND THE SCREEN ON MY DASHBOARD INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED TO PUSH THE START BUTTON TO PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK. I SAT WITH MY CHILDREN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE CAR STARTED AGAIN. LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD WERE STILL ON BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAULTY TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR AND SOME ISSUE WITH A CYLINDER NOT FUNCTIONING. I PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. A MONTH LATER, I RECEIVE THE P60 RECALL LETTER AND IT SEEMS TO DESCRIBE THE ISSUE I HAD. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS INCOMPETENT. I LEFT THE ISSUE ALONE AND HAD THE RECALL ON THE ALTERNATOR REPAIRED IN APRIL. LAST WEEK, AUGUST 1ST, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIM AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. ESC, ABS, ETC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND HE HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY WHILE HE LOST POWER IN THE CAR. GEAR SHIFT WAS STUCK AND HE HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK BY PRESSING THE START BUTTON. SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR 20 MINUTES BEFORE HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE SAME DODGE DEALERSHIP IS NOW TELLING US TO REPAIR THE LEFT REAR SPEED SENSOR, FOR THE SAME ISSUE WE HAD IN OCTOBER.
VEHICLE HAD WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING. STOPPED AND CHECKED VEHICLE AND IT APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. ALSO HAD A BURNING SMELL. WHEN DRIVING HOME, THE RADIO SHUT OFF AND CAR WENT INTO "BATTERY SAVER MODE". TOOK IT TO DODGE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE ALTERNATOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACING. NOT COVERED UNDER CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 7/100 EXTENDED WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER/DODGE REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN FULL PRICE REPAIR. BARELY OVER 40,000 MILES ON A 2012 AND THE ALTERNATOR IS DEFECTIVE. IT'S UNFORTUNATE THEY DON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES AND WARRANTY A KNOWN ISSUE. INSTEAD, THEY STICK THE CUSTOMER WITH A $650+ REPAIR. *TR

AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED SMOKE COMING FOR THE ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD BURNED OUT WHICH AFFECTED THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AT TIMES AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS APPLIED, THE VEHICLE WAS SLOW TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED MORE THAN ONCE AND WAS INSPECTED AS WELL AS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ALSO PROVIDED REPAIRS AS THE FAILURES PROGRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), 16V352000 (AIR BAGS), 15V467000 (AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS), AND 16V043000 (STRUCTURE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
WAS DRIVING AT 70MPH WHEN EVERYTHING STARTED TO TURN OFF, RADIO, GAUGES, BRAKE SYSTEM. INFORMATION CENTER WAS TELLING CAR WAS IN POWER SAVE MODE. I HAD TO PULL OVER DUE TO NOTHING WORKING. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON AND THAT WAS IT, CAR HAD NO POWER. ALL THIS WHILE MY WIFE WAS IN LABOR. THANK GOD SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE BABY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE COULDN'T EVEN GET ANYONE TO TOW THE CAR BECAUSE IT COULDN'T BE PUT INTO NEUTRAL. ALL THIS DUE TO A FAULTY ALTERNATOR. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V197000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE). THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
STARTED MY CAR THIS MORNING AND IT WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. DROVE MY CAR OUT THE NEIGHBOR TO THE STOP LIGHT. WHILE WAITING FOR THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TO CHANGE GREEN, I NOTICE A BURNING SPELL. MY RADIO THEN TURNED OFF AND TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF. AFTER A MINUTE THE BATTERY LIGHT APPEARED AND I RECEIVED A MESSAGE THAT THE CAR WAS IN BATTERY SAFE MODE. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ERROR MESSAGE IT APPEARS TO BE THAT MY ALTERNATOR IS EITHER DEFECTIVE OR GOING BAD. *TR

DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT CONTINUES TO GO OUT EVEN AFTER CHANGING THE BULB 4 TIMES. LOOKS LIKE A HARNESS MELTING PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME MODEL YEAR EXCEPT ONLY IN POLICE VEHICLES. IT IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM FOR OTHER TYPES THAN JUST POLICE CARS.
I PULLED INTO AN INTERSECTION AND THE ELECTRICAL ON THE VEHICLE STARTED FLASHING OFF AND ON. DASHBOARD, WIPERS, RADIO, TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE STUTTERING AND STALLING. I MADE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, AND ABOUT 20 FEET FROM IT BEFORE THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THERE WAS MINIMAL POWER, SO THE HAZARDS WORKED, BUT THE KEY FOB WAS NOT DETECTED (I JUST BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY FOR IT LAST WEEK), THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CONTINUED TO FLICKER EACH TIME I TRIED TO RESTART IT. THE MIDDLE SCREEN CAME UP BLANK OR WHITE, AND IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE THE BUTTON/START INDICATOR WOULD MOVE FROM THE "RUN" TO THE "OFF" POSITION. THE BATTERY WAS OBVIOUSLY DEAD, BUT WHEN A PASSERBY STOPPED TO HELP ME TRY TO JUMP IT, IT WOULDN'T TAKE A CHARGE. THE ELECTRICAL CAPACITY CONTINUED TO DIMINISH AS I TRIED TO START IT, OR TRY DIFFERENT THINGS TO GET IT TO WORK. THE GREAT SHIFT LOCKED UP SO I COULDN'T PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO ROLL THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY. SINCE IT WAS 4:30 ON A BUSY, DIVIDED HIGHWAY DURING A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR, I WAS TERRIFIED SOMEONE WAS GOING TO HIT ME FROM BEHIND. FORTUNATELY OCSO ARRIVED TO HELP DIVERT TRAFFIC, AND HE HELPED ME FIGURE OUT WHERE THE EMERGENCY DISCONNECT WAS FOR THE TRANSMISSION SO WE COULD PUSH IT OFF THE ROAD. AAA CAME BUT IT WOULDN'T STAY CHARGED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME WITH THE TRAVEL CHARGER ON IT. I TRIED TO JUMP IT AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES, WITH NO LUCK, IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. SO, $800 LATER, I HAVE A NEW BATTERY, NEW ALTERNATOR, AND FEEL LUCKY THAT I DIDN'T GET STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION, GET REAR-ENDED, OR HADN'T LEFT ON MY TRIP TO NORTH CAROLINA YET. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION, THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE, AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING OR INDICATION THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD GONE BAD. I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS EXPERIENCED THIS BASED ON A GOOGLE SEARCH, AND APPRECIATE THAT THE NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN RUSH HOUR, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I CAME TO A STOP BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND MY ABS AND OTHER WARNING LIGHTS BECAME ILLUMINATED. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS WARNING. THE CAR CEASED TO FUNCTION. ELECTRIC SYSTEMS WERE LOCKED AND I WAS LEFT IMMOBILE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I CALLED A LOCAL TOW TRUCK FROM MY CELL PHONE AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE IN THE DAYS/WEEKS LEADING UP TO THIS INCIDENT. *TR

DRIVING TO WORK, AT ABOUT 45 MPH, I SAW A MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD READ BATTERY SAVER MODE FOLLOWED BY A HUMMING NOISE THROUGHOUT THE CAR. I THEN STARTED TO PULL OUT OF THE FREEWAY AND MY ANTI-SKID LIGHTS FLASHED ON AND OFF, ALONG WITH OTHER UNIDENTIFIABLE DASHBOARD LIGHTS. I MANAGED TO GET INTO A GAS STATION RIGHT BEFORE MY CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. PER THE DEALER, ALTERNATOR FAILURE CAUSED BATTERY TO SHUT DOWN. HOW DOES AN ALTERNATOR FAIL ON A CAR 2 1/2 YEARS OLD? I HAVE READ SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE YET NOT RECALLS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I AM STILL WAITING TO SEE IF MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL COVER COSTS, AS I AM 1000 MILES OUT OF MY MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. *TR

HE WENT TO AUTO ZONE TO GET IT CHECK AND UPON GETTING THIS DONE HE STATED "THE CAR IS GOING CRAZY" EVERY LIGHT IMAGINABLE WAS APPEARING. A MESSAGE APPEARED AND INDICATED BATTERY SAVER MODE. I DECIDED TO GO AND GET A PICTURE OF THE MESSAGE TO SHOW THE DEALERSHIP BUT WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALSO TURNED ON. THE CAR WAS ALSO MAKING A SCREECHING NOISE. I WENT TO GET IT REPAIRED AND THEY SAID THE PART I NEEDED WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. MY ONLY WAY WAS TO GO TO A DEALERSHIP TO BUY A NEW ONE. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON THE TURNPIKE, BUT IT WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD HAVE TURNED OUT VERY BAD FOR ME AND MY 2 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACKSEAT. THIS IS A PROBLEM DODGE NEEDS TO RECALL OR COVER THE COST FOR IT BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. APPARENTLY THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THIS PART IT IS COMMONPLACE FOR THIS VEHICLE. I WASN'T GOING VERY FAST AND WAS ABLE TO BEGIN PULLING OVER AND SLOWING DOWN. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY SPEEDOMETER AND EVERYTHING ON MY DASHBOARD STARTED GOING CRAZY, AND THEN IT WENT OUT. THANKFULLY I WAS BY HEEL AND I RODE DOWN INTO THE GAS STATION. I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF BUT I COULDN'T BECAUSE ALL THE POWER IN THE DASHBOARD HAD GOING OUT ALL THE POWER WAS GONE. SO THE CAR LITERALLY DRAINED ITSELF OF POWER FOR THE NEXT TWO MINUTES AND THEN IT DRAINED OUT COMPLETELY OF POWER. SO I SET A FEW MINUTES AND THE BATTERY DID RECHARGE ENOUGH FOR ME TO MAKE IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO ADVANCED AUTO MAYBE A QUARTER-MILE FROM MY HOUSE AND I HAD THEM DO A BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR CHECK. WHAT CAME UP WAS THE ALTERNATOR WAS BAD IT WAS NOT SENDING ENOUGH CURRENT TO THE BATTERY AND THAT THE BATTERY WAS BEING DRAINED. THIS IS A 2012 CAR WITH 61,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NOT DONE ANY ALTERATIONS ON THIS CAR EVERYTHING IS FACTORY, AND I'VE GOT IT MAINTENANCE WHEN IT NEEDED MAINTENANCE LIKE MY OIL CHANGE AND CHANGING THE DIFFERENTIAL FLUIDS NOTHING MAJOR THOUGH. WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING... JUST DIED.. AFTER PURCHASING AN ALTERNATOR THROUGH DODGE 585.00 NOTE FOR A 2012 MODEL IS INSANE. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED ANOTHER 65.00 THE CAR IS EXTREMELY LOUD WHICH I WAS TOLD WAS WHEN ALTERNATOR WENT OUT IT OVER STRESSED THE FAN. THE HEATER WENT OUT LAST WEEK WHICH ENDED UP BEING A REGULATOR OR SOMETHING PART THIS CAR IS A LEMON NOTHING BUT ISSUES SINCE I BOUGHT IT.. *TR
I HAVE A 2012 DODGE CHARGER SXT 3.6 LITRE, ON THE 13 OF AUG 2014 I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON I WAS ONLY 5 MILES FROM MY HOUSE RIGHT AFTER LIGHT CAME ON CAR SAID IT WENT INTO BATTERY SAVER MODE RADIO SHUT OFF I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OK TO DRIVE IT HOME SINCE I WAS CLOSE TO MY HOUSE AND IT WAS IN BATTERY SAVER MODE THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL WARNING LIGHTS IN VEHICLE WENT OFF TRIP INFO SCREEN WENT BLANK AND WIPERS CAME ON AND MY POWER STEERING SHUT OFF THEN CAME BACK ON THEN OFF AGAIN I ALMOST CRASHED I WAS GOING AROUND A CORNER AT THE TIME NOW MIND YOU I WAS ON A ROAD WHERE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER TO PULL ONTO CAR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT IF YOU TRIED TO ACCELERATE IT WOULDN'T GO, I ALSO TRIED TO SHUT CAR OFF AT ONE POINT AND IT WOULD NOT EVEN SHUT OFF I KEPT HITTING OFF BUTTON AT THIS POINT SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD AND I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING I WAS FREAKING OUT BECAUSE CAR WOULDN'T SHUT OFF SMOKE COMING OUT AND I COULDN'T EVEN UNROLL WINDOW OR OPEN DOOR WHILE IT WAS RUNNING BECAUSE DOOR LOCK ENGAGED CAR WAS MAKING SOME WEIRD NOISES FINALLY SHUT OFF GOT OUT OF CAR OPENED HOOD ALTERNATOR WAS SMOKING HOT. CURRENTLY HAD CAR TOWED TO LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP TWO DAYS LATER I'M STILL WAITING TO SEE IF THIS WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WILL TELL YOU THIS THE SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS A HUGE ISSUE WITH CHRYSLER 300'S DODGE CHARGERS AND JEEP CHEROKEE'S AND NORMALLY IT'S NOT COVERED RIGHT NOW AT MY DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE 2 CHRYSLER 300 1 CHARGER AND 1 JEEP CHEROKEE PLUS MY CHARGER MAKES 5 CARS IN THERE DEALERSHIP WITH SAME ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY SEVERAL OF MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS FLICKERED WHILE DRIVING OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR (NOTE: ALTHOUGH I SELECTED 50 MPH, I DROVE AT VARYING SPEEDS DUE TO START/STOP TRAFFIC - THE INITIAL ISSUES HAPPENED AT ABOVE 50 MPH), I STARTED SMELLING BURNING SMELL - LIKELY WIRES AND BECAME CONCERNED, I ALSO HEARD A STRANGE WHIZZING SOUND. I KEPT DRIVING WHEN GRADUALLY MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER, THE DASHBOARD NOTIFIED ME THAT IT WAS GOING INTO BATTERY SAVING MODE AND THEN LESS THAN A MINUTE OR TWO LATER, MY POWER STEERING WAS GONE INSTANTLY, THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AS I WAS COMING AROUND A TURN, HOPING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE HILL AHEAD AND LET GRAVITY PULL ME INTO A SAFER PLACE. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAD NO POWER LEFT, NOT EVEN ENOUGH TO TURN ON THE FLASHERS. THE CAR DID NOT RESTART. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO SEARS FOR A CHARGING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC AND TURNED OUT THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS DEAD. THE BATTERY WAS ALSO DEAD. I PAID FOR A NEW BATTERY AND CONFIRMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT CHARGING THE NEW DIE-HARD ADVANCED GOLD BATTERY I JUST PURCHASED. I HAD IT TOWED A SECOND TIME TO TAKE IT TO THE DODGE DEALER BECAUSE I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IT, EVEN THOUGH THE DEALER WAS ONLY 16 MINS AWAY THAT SAME DAY. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS DEAD. WE WILL CONFIRM MAIN CAUSE TODAY. THIS CAR IS A 2012 AND I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND HOW A CAR THAT NEW EVEN WITH 101,000 (A LARGE % ARE HIGHWAY MILES) COULD HAVE A BAD ALTERNATOR GO THAT SOON. SO FAR, MY BILL WILL BE OVER $1000 JUST TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR IN ADDITION TO THE $233 I HAD TO PAY FOR THE BATTERY AT SEARS. MORE DIAGNOSTICS ARE BEING DONE AT THIS TIME. THEY MENTIONED THAT IT WAS UNRELATED TO ANY PRIOR RECALLS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BATTERY SAVER MODE LIGHT CAME ON, THEN ABOUT 5 MIN LATER THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. THERE WAS A WINE COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR, AND THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL BUT I MANAGED TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TESTED THE ALTERNATOR AND SURE ENOUGH THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 40,500 MILES ON IT. I WAS OUT OF A VEHICLE BECAUSE THE PART ($400) HAD TO BE ORDERED BECAUSE IT WAS TO NEW FOR THE DEALER TO HAVE ONE IN STOCK. I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE ALTERNATOR MYSELF BECAUSE OF MY MECHANIC BACKGROUND. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. *TR
MY 2012 DODGE CHARGER WAS DOING JUST FINE, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION THAT WOULD HAVE LED ME TO BELIEVE IT WAS GOING TO DIE ON ME SOON. I BOUGHT IT IN MAY (USED), AND IT IS NOW AUGUST. IT HAS JUST OVER 41K MILES. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60MPH AND THIS MESSAGE CAME ON "BATTERY SAVING MODE", I GOT TO THE STORE AND PUMPED GAS, TURNED IT BACK ON JUST FINE AND THE MESSAGE WAS STILL SHOWING, THEN DROVE IT LESS THAN A MILE WHILE HEARING THIS SLIGHT HIGH PITCH NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I REACHED MY DESTINATION AND WHEN I TURNED OFF THERE WAS THIS BURNING SMELL AND SOME CLEAR SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WE OPENED IT AND SAW AND SMELLED MORE SMOKE ALONG WITH A BURNED RUBBER SMELL COMING FROM UNDER THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PANEL COVERING THE ENGINE. NOW MY CAR WON'T START AT ALL AND I KEEP HEARING THAT IT COULD BE THE ALTERNATOR, AND THAT IT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL. I DON'T KNOW IF I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND PAY FOR IT TO GET FIXED IF THERE'S NO OFFICIAL RECALL ON IT YET OR WHAT. I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT IT HAS ACTUALLY CAUGHT FIRE FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN THE FORUMS I'VE READ, SO NOW I HAVE TO ALSO HAVE IT TOWED. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. *TR
ALTERNATOR GOING OUT!!!!! CHARGER JUST GAVE ME THE "BATTERY SAVER MODE". ABS LIGHT CAME ON, BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEREO SHUT OFF. 2 HOURS AFTER ITS BACK TO NORMAL. CALLED DEALERSHIP, THEY WILL CHARGE ME $95 JUST TO TEST IT, NOT ACKNOWLEDGING ANY ISSUES WITH CAR, AND WILL LIKELY COST ME $500 PLUS TO FIX. TAKING IT TO AUTOPARTS STORE TO HAVE ALTERNATOR TESTED FOR FREE, THEN HAVING IT TOWED HOME. "BATTERY SAVER MODE" IS A SIGN THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS DEFECTIVE WHICH IN TURN DAMAGES THE BATTERY, IF YOU SEARCH THE DODGE/CHRYSLER FORUMS YOU WILL FIND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE WHICH RESULTS IN CAR BECOMING COMPLETELY UNDRIVABLE. IT STARTS WITH THE ERROR , THEN THE CAR SHUTS DOWN THE STEREO AND OTHER ELECTRONICS SO IT CAN HAVE ENOUGH VOLTAGE TO RUN THE ENGINE AND THEN THE ENGINE DIES. *TR
WE WENT TO CHURCH ON THE 5TH OF AUGUST OUT OF TOWN. AND WHEN I GOT HOME THE CAR STARTED TO MAKE A NOISE AND WHEN PARK INTO THE GARAGE IT HAS A SMILE THAT SOMETHING WERE BURNING SO I HAD TO REMOVE IT FROM THE GARAGE OVERNIGHT. AND GOT UP ON THE 6TH OF AUGUST AND IT WOULD NOT START. SO NOW IT'S AT THE DODGE DEALERSHIP IN WARNER ROBINS, GA ONE WASTON BLVD. *TR
