FORCEFUL FORWARD MOTION OF SLIDING SEAT HAS ENOUGH MOMENTUM ON DRIVER'S SIDE TO CAUSE HUMAN IMPACT ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN A HARD STOP/BRAKE ENGAGED. PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SLIDES WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO CAUSE HEAD TO IMPACT WINDSHIELD ON SUDDEN/HARD STOP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2002 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER BEING IN A CRASH AT 80 MPH, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UNTIL AFTER THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THERE WAS ONE INJURY AND TWO FATALITIES AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. I TOOK IT TO A DODGE DEALER TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY SAID THAT THE LEFT SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE IS BAD AND MAYBE THE AIRBAG, ALSO THE AIRBAG MODULE ITSELF MAY BE BAD. SAID THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT IS ELECTRICAL. I THOUGHT WHEN IT CAME TO SAFETY ISSUE SUCH AS AIRBAGS, THAT IT WAS A FEDERAL LAW THAT THOSE ITEMS ARE FIXED FOR FREE. *TR

JUNE 26, 2005 - MY SON'S 2002 DODGE DURANGO'S DRIVER'S SEATBELT FAILED AS HE WAS EXITING HIS FATHER'S DRIVEWAY. JUNE 28, 2005 - TOOK DODGE IN FOR FAILED SEATBELT AND WAS TOLD VIA TELEPHONE THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $400.00 TO REPLACE. I CALLED MANUFACTURER AND COMPLAINED, SITING WEBSITES AND CBS (2003) DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. ONE OF THEM BEING THE FAILED SEATBELT. TO QUOTE "APPROXIMATELY 16 MILION DODGE VEHICLES HAVE A SEAT BELT THAT DOES NOT PASS THE STANDARD FOR ACCIDENTAL SAFETY". THEIR RESPONSE: WELL ITS' NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND ITS NOT A RECALL, BUT I'LL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO. THEY ARE CHARGING ME A "CO-PAY" OF $75.00 FOR A NEW COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. YOUR GOVERNMENT BRANCH, THE DODGE MANUFACTURER AND OWNERS OF THIS TYPE VEHICLE ARE WELL AWARE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. COULD DODGE GIVE ME BACK MY SON IF MY SON HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND LOST HIS LIFE BECAUSE HIS DODGE DURANGO DRIVER'S SEAT BELT FAILED!! WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH CONSUMER RAN INTO AN ANIMAL HEAD-ON AND NONE OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
THE SEAT BELT FOR THE MIDDLE ROW SEATS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL NOT PULL OUT. THE MECHANIC KEPT WORKING WITH IT UNTIL HE WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OUT. HE DETERMINED THAT IT WAS NOT TWISTED AND ORDERED A NEW ASSEMBLY. IT IS ON BACK ORDER. IN THE MEANWHILE, THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE MECHANIC COULD NOT PULL IT OUT.
