WHEN FILLING UP GAS TANK GAS OVERFLOWS CREATING A HUGE MESS, AT-LEAST HALF A GALLON COMES GUSHING OUT. THIS HAS DAMAGED THE PAINT AND HAS DOWSED ME WITH GASOLINE NUMEROUS TIMES. *TR
DURING TIMES OF LOW TEMPERATURES (BELOW 40 DEGREES) THE FOLLOWING OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THE RADIO CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL DO NOT WORK PROPERLY, THE RADIO VOLUME SPONTANEOUSLY GOES DOWN, THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS FLASH OFF AND ON, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL COME ON, THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR THE AIRBAG INDICATE THE AIRBAG IS NOT ACTIVATED. I AM SURE THERE ARE MORE GLITCHES; HOWEVER THESE ARE THE ONES THAT STAND OUT. THIS MORNING, HOWEVER, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT STOP ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS APPROXIMATELY 22 DEGREES. I SET THE CRUISE FOR 75, WHEN I REVIEWED THE SPEED, THE VEHICLE HAD ACCELERATED TO 95 AND THE CRUISE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF EITHER BY THE CRUISE CONTROL CONTROLS OR BY BRAKING. IN FACT THE BRAKES HAD DIFFICULTY SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN TO 75 AND WHEN RELEASED THE VEHICLE WOULD AGAIN ACCELERATE. WHEN PLACED INTO NEUTRAL, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED REVVING AND WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE IT AGAIN ACCELERATED. WHEN I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE BY PLACING IT IN NEUTRAL AND CONTINUE TO PUSH HARD ON THE BRAKES, I MANEUVERED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. IT THEN WOULD NOT RE-START. THE IGNITION WOULDN'T TURN OVER FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO BE WORKING FINE. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING. THEY WERE ALREADY AWARE OF THE PREVIOUS IRREGULARITIES AND ADVISED THEY WOULD BE TALKING TO THE SUPPORT CENTER TODAY. THEY HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE ADVISED THAT THEY ARE AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT LEASES A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY FAILS TO START, ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK. THE DEALER CONTINUES TO STATE THAT THERE ARE NO FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED WITH THE DEALER AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. BOUGHT 06 DURANGO IN 02/07. I NOTICED DURING THE FOLLOWING MONTH HOW THE VEHICLE PULL TO THE LEFT ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER COMING OUT OF A RIGHT TURN I NOTICED HOW THE VEHICLE JERKED TO THE LEFT. WHILE IN PARK, I TURNED THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION THEN LET GO. THE WHEEL SNAPPED BACK MAKING AN UNUSUAL SOUND WHICH CAUSED CONCERN. RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE RACK & PINION STEERING WAS DEFECTIVE. AS OF TODAY 04-04-07, THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN REPAIR AT THE DEALER. IT'S BEEN TWO DAYS. THIS IS MY THIRD BRAND NEW DODGE VEHICLE. I'VE HAD TO TAKE THEM ALL BACK FOR SOME TYPE OF RECALL OR PROBLEM THAT QUALITY CONTROL AND THE DEALER MISSED. I'M UPSET AND WANT TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE REPLACED OR MY MONEY, TRADE IN AND OTHER COST RETURNED. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT LEASES A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL). THE DEALER PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR; HOWEVER, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ONE WEEK LATER. AFTER THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE AUTOMATICALLY AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT ENGAGE. ONE ON OCCASION, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A RECALL WAS AVAILABLE FOR THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET IT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 19,000.*AK
ISSUE I: STALL VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN DOWN A SLOPING ROAD THAT CURVED TO THE RIGHT APPROX 35-45 MPH. STEERING BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND I REALIZED MOMENTS LATER THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE WAS NO LONGER RUNNING. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. I RECENTLY WENT ONLINE TO DISCOVER TO MY HORROR THAT I AM NOT ALONE. IN FACT, ON ONE DISCUSSION GROUP OVER A HUNDRED PEOPLE REPORTED EXPERIENCING STALLS. I HAVE A PREGNANT WIFE. I AM CONCERNED THAT WERE THIS TO HAPPEN TO HER SHE WOULD NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO CONTROL SUCH A LARGE VEHICLE WITHOUT POWER STEERING. ISSUE II: REPEATED WARPING OF BRAKES. HAD VEHICLE FOR APPROX. 6,000 MILES WHEN NOTED PULSATION OF BRAKES. AT NEXT SERVICE I INQUIRED ABOUT IT AND WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE GROUND DOWN. I FELT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER DECLINED. APPROX. 4,000 MILES LATER THE PROBLEM BEGAN TO RE-OCCUR. I NOTED PROBLEM TO DEALERSHIP AT NEXT SERVICE. THEY EXPRESSED THE ROTORS ARE WARPED. DEALERSHIP ACCUSED ME OF DRIVING TO AGGRESSIVELY AS BEING THE ONLY CAUSE. I DO NOT ACCEPT THIS AS VALID. I AM NOT AN AGGRESSIVE DRIVER. I HAVE SEEN THAT NUMEROUS OTHERS HAVE REPORTED SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I HAVE SINCE READ THAT IMPROPERLY TORQUING THE LUG NUTS MAY BE A CAUSE FOR THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT THINK IT UNREASONABLE TO EXPECT BREAKS ON A NEW VEHICLE TO LAST MORE THAN 4K-6K MILES BEFORE NEEDING MAINTENANCE. MY LAST SUV REQUIRED ONE SIGNIFICANT BREAK SERVICE DURING THE 115,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP. I FEEL THAT BOTH OF THESE ISSUES ENDANGER THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. I FEEL THAT NEITHER ISSUE HAS BEEN SATISFACTORY ADDRESSED BY DODGE. *JB
EVERY TIME FILL UP GAS TANK IT SPILLS OVER. NOT ON RECALL LIST. *TR
MY 2006 DODGE DURANGO MAY NOT STOP CORRECTLY AT ONE SPECIFIC INTERSECTION. THE DURANGO TRAVELS TO THE INTERSECTION TO TAKE KIDS TO SCHOOL OR PICK UP FROM SCHOOL. THE ROUTE IS TRAVELED ALMOST DAILY SINCE JANUARY 3, 2007. ON FIVE OCCASIONS, THE BRAKES DID NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY. THE ROAD CONDITIONS ARE DRY. THE SPEED LEADING UP TO THE INTERSECTION IS 35 MPH OR LESS. THE FORCE PRESSED ON THE BRAKES IS MODERATE FOR A SIMPLE, CONTROLLED STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. INSTEAD OF STOPPING NORMALLY, WE HEAR THE NOISE OF A SMALL MOTOR. THE BRAKES DON'T FEEL RIGHT AND THE CAR DOESN'T STOP QUICKLY. THEN, THE BRAKES APPEAR TO FAIL AND THE CAR PROCEEDS FORWARD WITH NO BRAKE RESISTANCE. THE REACTION OF THE DRIVER IS TO RELEASE THE BRAKES AND THEN PRESS VERY HARD. THE CAR DOES STOP WITH A JERK. AFTER 3800 MILES, THE BEHAVIOR ONLY HAPPENS AT THE ONE INTERSECTION. THE LAST THREE OCCURRENCES HAPPENED ON THE SAME DAY. WE CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON DEMAND AT THE INTERSECTION OR ON ANY OTHER ROAD. WITH DRY ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CAR STOPS JUST FINE WITH MODERATE OR EVEN HEAVY BRAKE PRESSURE. ON AN ASPHALT ROAD WITH LOOSE GRAVEL, I APPLIED HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. I HEARD A MOTOR; THE BRAKES FELT WEIRD; THE BRAKES NEVER GAVE UP; THE CAR STOPPED QUICKLY AS EXPECTED. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. WE, THE DRIVERS, ARE TOO AFRAID TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DON'T RELEASE THE BRAKES. IN EACH OCCURRENCE, FAILURE OF THE BRAKES WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE FIRST, UNEXPECTED OCCURRENCE ALMOST DID. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT ATTEMPT ANY ACTION ON MY CAR SINCE THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AT THE INTERSECTION OR ANYWHERE ELSE. *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE CONTACT OBSERVED A FUEL SPILL WHEN DISPENSING OVER A QUART OF GASOLINE INTO THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL SPRAYED OUT WHENEVER DISPENSING FUEL INTO THE TANK. THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED SINCE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURES WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE RECALL DEFECT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V034000 (FUEL SYSTEM GASOLINE TANK ASSEMBLY). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 7,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DISPENSING FUEL INTO THE FUEL TANK TO ITS CAPACITY, THE FUEL BEGAN TO SPRAY OUT CONTINUOUSLY. THE DRIVER STATED THAT THE FUEL SPILLED ONTO HIS SHIRT SLEEVE. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM WHICH THERE WAS NO RESOLUTIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED EDITION SUV WITH BLEND AIR HEAER SYSTEM. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER OF 2006. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN SHOP APPROX FIVE TIMES FOR DEFROSTER NOT WORKING AND STILL IS NOT FIXED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION IN WINTER TIME AS WINDSHIELD FOGS AND YOU HAVE TO SCRAPE INSIDE OF W/S TO SEE. THIS HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES AND STILL IS NOT REPAIRED. DEFROSTER WILL WORK ONCE IN A WHILE BUT MOST TIMES NOT. I DON'T KNOW IF DEALER KNOWS HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THEY SEEM TO BE AT A LOSS AS FAR AS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?? ARE THERE OTHER DURANGOS WITH THIS SAME COMPLAINT THAT HAS OR HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED?? THIS OBVIOUSLY HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT PANEL'S SEAT MOTOR CAP WAS SUPER GLUED ON AFTER PRONGS HAD BROKEN BY EITHER SELLING DEALER OR MANUFACTURER. THIS WAS FOUND TO HAVE HAPPENED WHEN VEHICLE WAS 8 MONTHS OLD AND THE CAP FELL OFF. AT 10 MONTHS OLD, THE SAME SEAT PANEL BUSTED WITH NORMAL ENTRY OF THE VEHICLE. I WEIGH 115 LBS. AT MY WEIGHT, THIS PIECE SHOULD NOT BREAK FROM NORMAL ENTRY. CAN YOU IMAGINE IF IT WAS A LARGER PERSON? WOULD THE WHOLE SEAT COME APART? THE LEATHER FORMS A U-SHAPE WHICH IS A NICE CUSHION WHEN SITTING IN THE SEAT, BUT WHEN ENTERING THE SEAT, THE DURANGO IS HIGH OFF THE GROUND AND THE SEAT/STEERING WHEEL DESIGN IS DESIGNED SO ONE HAS TO "SLIDE" INTO THE SEAT. WHEN YOU "SLIDE" INTO THE SEAT, THE SEAT PUSHES DOWN ON THE EDGES WHICH IN TURN PUSHES DOWN ON THE THIN, CHEAP PLASTIC AND THE PLASTIC CRACKS. THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM ONLY THIS ONCE UNDER WARRANTY. THEY STATED THEY FIX APPROXIMATELY 20 VEHICLES A MONTH THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY HAVE CONTACTED DODGE ABOUT REPLACING THE PLASTIC PIECE WITH MORE DURABLE MATERIAL TO NO AVAIL. IF THIS PLASTIC PIECE CONTINUES TO BREAK (AND IT WILL AS THEY ARE REPLACING WITH SAME QUALITY OF PLASTIC), THE MECHANISMS OF THE SEAT WILL BE OPEN TO THE TOUCH WHICH IS A DANGER TO THE SMALL HANDS OF CHILDREN WHO MAY REACH IN THE VEHICLE. THESE DURANGO'S HAVE ELECTRONIC BUTTONS ON THE SIDE OF THIS PANEL WHICH IF MOVED COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE AND DISFIGURE A CHILD'S HANDS OR FEET IF CAUGHT WHERE THE SEAT PANEL SHOULD BE. I DON'T WANT IT TO BE MY CHILD'S FEET. I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE A FAULTY PART EVER 10 MONTHS THAT I OWN THE VEHICLE DUE TO A CHEAP, FAULTY PART. FOR A $39,000 VEHICLE, I EXPECT BETTER QUALITY. I WONDER HOW SAFE I AM IN THE DURANGO IF I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT SINCE THE SEAT CAN'T HOLD UP AFTER ONLY 10 MONTHS OF NORMAL USE. MY HUSBAND'S SUPERVISOR'S 05 DURANGO HAD THE SAME PLASTIC SEAT PANEL BUST DURING NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ALSO AT LESS THAN 6 MONTHS! *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT BOUGHT A NEW 2006 DURANGO ON 11/18/06 FROM TOWBIN DODGE AND SHE HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS SINCE THE PURCHASE DATE. SHE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES FOR A SHUTTER IN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AT 10-15 MPH. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED FOUR TIMES. THE DEALER HAS HAD POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE FOR 50 DAYS AND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY KEPT TELLING HER TO CALL THE DEALER, AND THE DEALER TOLD HER TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. SHE REQUESTED A DIFFERENT DODGE DURANGO AND THEY WILL NOT COMPLY. *AK UPDATED 2/27/2007 - *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK AND THE ABS MODULES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,920.
TL* - WHILE DRIVING A 2006 DODGE DURANGO AT 12 MPH THE DRIVER 'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE/CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY. THE DRIVER HAD A BRUISED SHOULDER, SCRATCHES AND A BRUISE ON HER NECK. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR, AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DODGE FACILITY. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE WAS 14,800. DAIMLER CHRYSLER ASSUMED ALL RESPONSIBILITY AND PAID IN FULL FOR THE REPAIRS. *AK

FROM THE TIME MY VEHICLE WAS NEW I HAD ISSUES WITH THE GAS NOZZLE CLICKING OFF BUT THE GAS COMING BACK OUT OF THE TANK. IN THE BEGINNING IT WAS A VERY LITTLE BIT AND I COULD STAND THERE AND MONITOR IT AND PUMP IN SLOWLY AND IT WOULDN?T DO IT. IT HAS STEADILY PROGRESSED TO WHERE EVERY TIME I TRY AND FILL MY TANK THE GAS PUMP WOULD CLICK OFF BUT THE GAS GUSHES OUT ONTO ME AND THE CAR AND THE PAVEMENT ? ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 5 CUPS OF GAS. THE TANK ISN'T EVEN FULL WHEN IT DOES THIS. I HAVE HAD IT DO IT WHEN I HAVE ONLY PUMPED 1 GALLON INTO THE TANK AND CONTINUE TO CLICK OFF EVERY COUPLE OF CENTS. IT TAKES AT LEAST 10 MINUTES TO PUT GAS IN MY TANK AND THEN IT ISN'T FULL. IT DOES THIS NO MATTER WHAT GAS STATION I GO TO. I HAVE HAD THE TPS REPLACED 3 TIMES, THE FUEL PUMP TWICE......I CAN'T HELP BUT FEEL THAT ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE INTER-RELATED. MY MINOR CONCERN IS THAT THIS WILL CAUSE A MEDICAL EMERGENCY FOR ME AS I HAVE ACUTE ASTHMA/BREATHING ISSUES. PROGRESSIVELY WORSE ENGINE IDLE AT STOPS ON '06 DURANGO W/ 5.7 HEMI. WHEN STOPPING AT LIGHT/SIGN, ENGINE WILL DROP FROM (NORMAL) AROUND 700RPM TO BELOW 500 RPM AND FEELS LIKE ITS ABOUT TO STALL. IT WILL THEN COME UP TO 500RPM (ROUGH IDLE) AND FLUCTUATE BETWEEN 450 AND 550. IF I GIVE AT A LITTLE GAS, IT WILL COME UP TO NORMAL RPM AND STAY. DEALER SAYS THEY COULDN'T GET ANY CODES OR FIND PROBLEMS, HOWEVER THEY SAW SAME SYMPTOMS WHEN TURNING WHEEL. AFTER RESEARCHING, I FOUND THAT THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED FOR '04 & '05 5.7 HEMI'S AND HAS SOME VEHICLES STALLING DURING A TURN IN INTERSECTION (THIS IS A POTENTIALLY FATAL DEFECT). THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT. MY 2006 DURANGO SEEMS TO NOT WANT TO CHANGE GEARS. IT SEEMS TO DO IT MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN THE AIR IS ON. HOWEVER, IT DOES IT WAY TOO OFTEN WHEN THE AIR ISN'T ON. BOTH INNER BRAKE DRUMS OF THE REAR TIRES OF A 2005 DODGE DURANGO WITH APPROXIMATELY 13500 MILES ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT SURFACES ARE TOTALLY CORRODED AND SHOW NO SIGNS OF WEAR. AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES, THE REAR BRAKES SEEM TO SQUEAL AND GRIND WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE. USED 1997 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER IN TEST WITH MY NEW 2006 DODGE DURANGO. TESTED INITIAL LEFT CENTER VENT TEMP AND THE TEMP AFTER 1, 2, 3, 4 AND 5 MINUTES USING THE DASH VENTS ONLY AND MAX COOL AND MAX FAN. THE NINE YEAR OLD MOUNTAINEER VENT TEMP WAS 9 OR 10 DEGREES COOLER AFTER 5 MINUTES. THE OLDER VEHICLE COOLED FASTER AND PROVIDED COLDER AIR TEMPS. ALTHOUGH NOT MENTIONED ON REPAIR LOG THEY AGAIN TRIED TO REPAIR THE AIR BAGS, ON AUGUST 2, 2006. AGAIN THEY SHUT DOWN. ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2007 I AGAIN TOOK THE CAR TO JACK OF DIAMONDS IN LONGVIEW, TX AS I HAVE MOVED TO TEXAS SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR. THEY AGAIN ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE AIR BAGS TO NO AVAIL. SO I TOOK IT BACK TO JACK OF DIAMONDS WHERE THEY AGAIN ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE AIR BAGS ON OCTOBER 16, 2006. TO DATE I STILL HAVE AIRBAGS THAT ARE SHUTTING DOWN WHENEVER THEY WANT. COMPLETE FAILURE OF WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM IN A NATIONAL RENT A CAR 2006 DODGE DURANGO DURING A TORRENTIAL RAINSTORM WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH IN THE HOV LANE OF I-5 IN HEAVY TRAFFIC FROM LOS ANGELES TO SAN DIEGO. WE SUDDENLY COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING IN FRONT OF US, AND HAD TO CROSS 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC COMING FROM BEHIND AND BESIDE US TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (THERE WAS NO CURB ON THE INNER HOV LANE). I WAS TOLD TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE DEFECT CORRECTED. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20TH AT 10 A.M. AFTER SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 HOURS, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THE PROCEDURE BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT SOFTWARE THAT WOULD ENABLE THEM TO CORRECT THE CONDITION. IT IS QUITE TROUBLING TO ME THAT I WASTED TIME ON MY HOLIDAY TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED. ADDITIONALLY, THE DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH AN ESTIMATE OF WHEN THEY WILL BE READY TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. 2006 DODGE DURANGO HAD REAR BRAKE FAILURE. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED HE HEARD A RUBBING SOUND THAT HE RECOGNIZED AS A SIGN THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE PISTON IN THE REAR BRAKE CALIPER WAS FROZEN WHICH RESULTED IN A METAL ON METAL CONDITION WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE CONDITION HAD COMPLETELY DESTROYED THE REAR BRAKE ROTOR. THE CONSUMER FOUND THERE WAS RECALL ON THE ANTI-LOCK CONTROL UNIT/MODULE. THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS TOLD THE RECALL WAS FOR SPECIFIC VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS AND HIS WAS NOT INCLUDED. I WAS DRIVING DURING A RAINSTORM AND MY 2006 DODGE DURANGO STARTED SPUTTERING AND STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY. WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER MY CAR WAS TOWED & LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC I WAS TOLD THAT WATER WAS RUNNING DOWN THE WINDSHIELD & DRIPPING DIRECTLY ON TOP OF THE AIR INTAKE. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2004 THROUGH 2006 MODELS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THIS TO BE TRUE. I SPOKE WITH DODGE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND I COULD PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT UPDATED COWL PART # 55362453AK THIS PART IS SUPPOSED TO DIVERT THE WATER AWAY FROM THE INTAKE. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT NO BULLETIN HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE PUBLIC. IN MY OPINION A VEHICLE THAT STALLS BECAUSE OF THE RAIN IS AN ISSUE. IT TYPICALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE HITS A 100000 MILES DUE TO THE WEATHER STRIPPING FAILING. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE ENGINES CAN BECOME WATERLOGGED AND THE ENGINE CAN BLOW A ROD THROUGH THE MOTOR WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR AFTER THE RAIN. ANY RESEARCH INTO THE SECOND GENERATION DODGE DURANGOS SHOULD PRODUCE MORE INFORMATION INCLUDING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AS I WOULD HATE FOR SOMEONE TO LOSE A LIFE BECAUSE THEIR VEHICLE STALLED.
