TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES WHILE PARKED IN HER EMPLOYER'S PARKING LOT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT OUT THE FLAMES. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT FILED AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD IT WAS HER RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE FRONT END WAS CHARRED AND BURNED OUT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 253,000.
COMMON PROBLEM PERSISTS WITH THIS MODEL EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE FAULTY AND CAUSE A EXHAUST LEAK ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE COSTING AROUND 1,000 TO FIX. MINE HAS THE SAME ISSUE WHEN YOU HAVE A COLD ENGINE YOU HEAR A TICKING NOISE AND IT IS CAUSED BY BAD PARTS FROM THE FACTORY. THIS REPAIR IS VERY COMMON ON THESE MODELS. THIS ISSUE IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH CHANGING THEM DUE TO BREAKAGE OF THE MANIFOLD BOLTS THAT COST EXTREME AMOUNTS TO FIX AND SOMETIMES IF REPAIRED WRONG COSTING A ENGINE REPLACEMENT.
MY DURANGO SHUT OFF ON ME THIS MORNING WHILE CRUISING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I WAS JUST DRIVING ALONG MAINTAINING 65MPH AND OUT OF NOWHERE THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF AS IF THE KEY HAD BEEN TURNED OFF, NO SPUTTERING OR ANYTHING.

MECHANIC IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. ALL MAJOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS HAVE BEEN AT THIS DEALERSHIP. VEHICLE HAS 214,000 MILES, BUT HAS ALWAYS BEEN RELIABLE. CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAS TAKEN A WEEK TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. HAD VEHICLE TOWED BY AAA TO DEALERSHIP.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BROKEN ON PASSENGER SIDE, WITH HEAT SHIELD DETACHED. DEALER REPORTS THAT DRIVERS SIDE ARE DETERIORATED AND MAY FAIL IN THE NEAR FUTURE. RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF ALL BOLTS/STUDS THAT WILL MOST LIKELY BREAK OFF DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE MATERIAL USED BY CHRYSLER. WILL REQUIRE DRILLING OUT BOLTS FROM HEADS AT A MINIMUM COST OF OVER $1400 PER THE EXPERIENCE OF THE DEALER. CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY CONSIDER THIS NORMAL WEAR... EVEN WHEN THE OWNER IS REQUIRED TO DRILL THE BOLTS OUT. THIS IS A FAILURE IN THE ENGINEERING AND DESIGN OF A VEHICLE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS IT CREATES DANGERS DUE TO EXTREME EXHAUST TEMPERATURE, EXHAUST GASES AND THE POTENTIAL FAILURE OF AN ENGINE ... ALL DUE TO THE DETERIORATION OF INEXPENSIVE BOLTS. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF CUTTING CORNERS TO SAVE A DOLLAR WHILE COSTING THE OWNERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. 1996 DODGE DURANGO. I HAVE 2006 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED 5.7 LITER HEMI - I BOUGHT USED CAR SALESMAN IT IN DECEMBER 2012. IN FEBRUARY OF 214 WE STARTED HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AFTER READING SEVERAL DIFFERENT INTERNET FORUMS I DISCOVERED THE ENGINE FAILURE WITH MY DODGE DURANGO WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. LIKE OTHERS I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO OUR MECHANIC'S BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON. WE ALWAYS GOT OIL CHANGES AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE DONE AT OUR MECHANIC'S BECAUSE WE THOUGHT THEY WOULD KNOW THE CAR BEST AND BE ABLE TO INFORM US OF ANY IMPORTANT RECALLS OR POSSIBLE PROBLEMS. I ASKED HIM ABOUT THE PROBLEM, HE IN TURNED TOLD ME THAT HE KNEW ABOUT THE DODGE DURANGO ENGINE FAILURE PROBLEM. HE ALSO SAID DODGE KNOWS ABOUT IT, BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I AM AFRAID THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED ON THE ROAD BECAUSE THE ENGINE TURNS OFF AT ANY TIME. IT IS A SAME THAT DODGE IS PULLING THE SAME THING AS GENERAL MOTORS HAS DONE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THERE WAS SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE AND A ROD HAD BEEN THROWN. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
WHEN WE UNLOCK/LOCK THE DOORS WE CAN HEAR A CLICKING NOISE UNDER THE TRUCK. SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING OR TAKING A TIGHT TURN I CAN FEEL THE 4X4 KICK IN AND THE TIRES LOCK UP. SOMETIMES THE 4X4 DASH INDICATOR WILL FLICKER ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY AND SOMETIMES THE RED NEUTRAL LIGHT INDICATOR BY THE 4X4 SWITCH COMES ON. USUALLY SHUTTING THE TRUCK OFF AND ON AGAIN MAKES THAT GO AWAY. *JS
MY VEHICLE STALLS WITH NO NOTICE. NO RPM LOSS. NO WARNING LIGHTS. JUST STALLS. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN INTO MY DRIVE WAY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN CONTINUALLY STALLING AT LOWER RPM. HE COORDINATED W/ THE LOCAL DODGE GARAGE AND RE-FLASHED THE ECM. 2 HOURS OUT OF THE MECHANICS GARAGE, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN A BUSY INTERSECTION AND CONTINUES TO STALL AND RUN HORRIBLY AT LOW RPM. *TR
