The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that when she entered the vehicle, she noticed that the front passenger's side headrest and the front driver's side headrest had deployed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
AS I WAS GETTING IN MY CAR I NOTICE THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADREST WAS APART/DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY ACCINDENT. ALSO HAVING ISSUES WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT NOT RETRACTING.
I was driving and the headrest deployed without a collision luckily I didn't have my head against the headrest as that would had made the impact harder maybe causing and actual accident. Upon searching online I found out it hasn't only happened to my Durango apparently this has happened to many other vehicle manufactured by Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler with many of these headrest activations taking place while the vehicle was parked. I haven't contacted Dodge since this accident happened today Sunday August 1 2021. As a first responder I think this is a issue that must be addressed now by you guys since I read online that Dodge said it was not a safety concern. Mixing highway speeds with a defective headrest that is supposed to be a "safety feature" to prevent an whiplash effect can result in a Motor Vehicle Accident with major injuries or including death. As this could be the same as your airbags deploying without a collision. A blow to the head could result in a concussion with or without loss of consciousness.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while parked, the driver's side headrest was deployed without warning or impact. The contact stated that while his wife was driving the driver's side headrest was deployed without warning or impact. The driver sustained injuries to the head and neck. Medical attention was provided. The driver's headrest was replaced with the passenger's side headrest after the first deployment by an independent mechanic. The local dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The active head restraint system deployed on passenger side while sitting at a traffic light with no warning or impact to another vehicle. I was the passenger when the headrest blew out causing my head to jerk forward and straining my neck. I have an appointment scheduled at the Dodge dealership in Thousand Oaks, CA on 11/5/2021 at 9:30am. No warning lamps or systems whatsoever.
Rear seat belt guides plastic is cracked preventing seat belt from retracting
Passenger side headrest exploded open will driving on parking lot, no collision took place it just broke open When plastic part failed internally. It had enough force to injury a persons head or neck.
2014 Dodge Durango Incident date 7/22/21 As my wife and daughter were entering the vehicle, the driver's side headrest exploded. There was no accident/collision. The vehicle was parked in our home's driveway, my wife and daughter were simply entering it to go run an errand. Had my wife already been in the vehicle, she would have been struck in the head by the impact. We are now worried that at any moment, the passenger side headrest may explode. This, I feel, is a serious issue.
Driverside headrest popped or deployed on it's own. No crash happened. Vehicle was parked outside my home and not in use. Had I been in the vehicle at the time, potential head trauma could have occurred such as wound, concussion or whiplash. Had I been driving the vehicle when this happened, this could have caused a crash and even more potential harm to myself, my children, passengers and other motorists. The vehicle has not been inspected but I have contact local dodge dealer who stated that there was no recall on the known issue and that the cost to "assess" the headrest would cost me $140 to diagnose and any replacement costs would be in addition to the $140. There was no warning whatsoever that this could happen. No engine lights or anything. Again, I was not driving the vehicle. It was parked in my driveway.
Out of nowhere, my headrest exploded. Apparently this is some sort of safety feature to avoid whiplash in an accident. My vehicle has never been in an accident and this happened for no reason. It slammed me in the back of the head out of nowhere while driving. I didn't know what happened. I thought I got hit. I see there are many complaints over the years online and yet, Dodge has not taken any responsibly and this isn't listed on the recall list. I'm scared to put my elderly mother in the car in fear that her headrest will explode and cause an injury
While driving I heard a pop behind me. I realized when I got home that the head rest had broken.
I was getting in the driver seat of my parked car. Prior to getting in I heard a loud thud that sounded like a spring released. The headrest safety feature had deployed. Again the car was parked and not in motion.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 mph, the front passenger’s side seat headrest inadvertently deployed, striking the passenger in the back of the head. During the failure, there was no injury. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. The Vin was not available.
A passenger seated in the third row drivers side seat extended the seatbelt to fasten. Once we were in transit, the passenger leaned forward, causing the belt to extend. When they leaned back into seat, the belt did not retract. Upon trying to get the retraction to engage, the seatbelt became fully extended and would not retract, putting passenger safety at risk. We were able to stop the vehicle without further incident to address. Upon inspection, it appears that part of the mechanism behind the interior panel is broken. We were able to move the passenger to the other rear seat position since the vehicle was one seat short of being at passenger capacity. We will have the belt evaluated by the dealership upon returning from our travels. This is the first instance of the issue in this vehicle, however based on consumer feedback research, this seems to be a common issue in this year/make/model of vehicle.
We were driving down the road and the back of the passenger head rest exploded open for no apparent reason. I have contacted Chrysler about this but we have a restrictions on vehicle which I need to clear up with State of Tennessee but I have notice others complain about their head rest exploding.
Passenger headrest deployed without notice or warning signs as I was parked in a parking lot today 6/27/2021. My son got into the backseat and reached forward to get phone charger and the passenger seat headrest deployed.
The shift lock mechanism failed to function allowing my vehicle to randomly shift from park to drive causing the vehicle to roll forward into another vehicle
We had problems with the driver seat belt we had dealership look at it and there were no recalls. We had it replaced . NOW the passenger seatbelt will not retract - there should be recalls for my vehicle as I have seen where other Dodge Durango’s had recalls for the same issue. I cannot transport anyone in my passenger seat until it is fixed. Highly disappointed - we have a Dodge Durango - Chrysler Van and Dodge Ram - we give our business to these brands and the seatbelts are not under recall when they are failing to restrain people. This should be covered under recall!
Drivers seat head rest activated for no reason. Popped out and forward. Needs to be repaired.
Passenger headrest deployed randomly and unexpectedly without warning during normal forward vehicle operation striking the passenger in the head. Vehicle was not in traffic or in contact with any other vehicle or object. Vehicle has no accident history or air bag deployment history. No warning lights and no warning prior to deployment. Owner is on summer holiday in Colorado. Owner contacted local Colorado dealer and was advised the headrest is not a repairable item and as such will require replacement. Dealer estimated repairs to be approximately $1,100. Part will need to be ordered and dealer could not estimate ETA for the part.
The third row seat belts no longer retract and have the same issue that my front driver and passenger seat belts had. Those were both fixed under an extended warranty, but the rear belts which appear to have the same mechanism and same fault (crack in the plastic) were not included.
1st ALL of the interior lights won’t turn off no matter what you do. Doors all closed locked still stay on while driving can’t manually switch them off 2nd yesterday I went to pick up my daughter at school and the car all of a sudden just stopped running. It won’t start. Before it would do that and I had to exit the vehicle and use the remote start. Tried it this time and it said fob deactivated and just beeped. Then the alarm went off and wouldn’t turn off. When the alarm finally stopped the radio turned on for no reason but the car still won’t start. Fob has a new battery still won’t start. This car isn’t even old and only has 60,000 miles on it. Lucky I was pulling over and parking I could have died. Apparently this is a known issue it had to happen to me for me to find out about it. You’ll do a recall for cruise control but not this!!!’ Crazy this car is a defective death trap. It’s sitting on the curb in front of the house now since I had to have it towed home. I’m NOT driving it ever again.
The long rear tailgate lamp (called the CHMSL) suffers from water intrusion which results in LED failure. This is a reoccurring issue. I am now trying to get this lamp replaced for the 4th or 5th time (yes, I've lost track because it's ridiculous!) Dodge should do a recall and hold the lighting manufacturer accountable as it is a common problem over many years of vehicles. Why should the consumer be burdened with having to replace this lamp every 1-2 years?? Lighting is a safety feature! Failure of LED's is a safety failure. This is an automatic recall so why hasn't a recall been issued?? Nothing on the vehicle system tells you the LED's are out. This affects visibility and can lead to accident, injury or death.
SYSTEM STATES SERVICE AIR BAG SYSTEM AND AIR BAG LIGHT IS LIGHT UP ON DASH. IS ON FROM START UP TO RUNNING AND TRUN ENGINE OFF.
DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST EXPLODED INTO THE BACK OF MY HEAD WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD SPEED WAS 30MPH. NO BUMPS OR ACCIDENTS. HIT ME HARD ENOUGH IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD THAT I BECAME LIGHTHEADED.
Fuel pump relay not working
WHILE TRAVELING ON FREEWAY DRIVER SEAT HEADREST DEPLOYED STRIKING BACK OF MY HEAD.
PASSENGER SEAT HEAD REST SUDDENLY POPPED OUT WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY
THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT IN THE HEAD REST DEPLOYED STRIKING ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN A HEADACHE.*DT
HEADREST DEPLOYED WITHOUT REASON WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS NO FORWARD OR REAR IMPACT TO VEHICLE.
I WAS DRIVING ON AN AIR FORCE BASE, HEADING HOME AFTER I PICKED UP MY CHILDREN FROM THEIR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM. THE ACTIVE HEADREST SUDDENLY BURST OPEN, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, HITTING ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD AND NECK. IT WAS SO SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED THAT I SWERVED OUT OF MY LANE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, IT DISTRESSED MY CHILDREN, PUT US ALL IN DANGER, NOT TO MENTION THE OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD. MY NECK FELT LIKE I HAD WHIPLASH SO I WENT HOME, ICED IT AND MADE A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT. I WISH THE MANUFACTURER HAD CONTACTED US ABOUT THERE BEING A RECALL, SO THAT IT DIDN'T CREATE THIS UNSAFE SITUATION.
WHILE SITTING IN THE CAR WITH MY FAMILY AT WALMART WAITING FOR FROCK PICK UP THE PASSENGER SEAT HEADREST AIR BAG BURST OPEN. WE WERE NOT IN ACCIDENT OR HAD WE WENT OVER ANY LARGE SPEED BUMPS. ACTUALLY THE CAR WAS IN PARK.
THE VEHICLE WAS OCCUPIED BY MY WIFE AND TWO SMALL CHILDREN. THEY WERE STATIONARY SITTING AT IDLE IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT SYSTEM IN THE DRIVER SEAT DEPLOYED NARROWLY MISSING MY WIFE'S FACE AS SHE WAS TURNED AROUND LOOKING AT THE CHILDREN IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO FORCE OR INADVERTENT CONTACT MADE TO THE SEAT OR IN THE VICINITY OF THE HEADREST THAT WOULD CAUSE ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AT THE TIME OF OCCURRENCE. THE HEADREST IS NOW UNSERVICABLE AND UNABLE TO BE RESET AS THE PLASTIC HARDWARE IN THE TRIGGER MECHANISM FAILED.
CAR IS HAVING ISSUES PERIODICALLY WHEN CRANKING, IT WILL SOMETIMES TAKE 2-3 SECONDS FROM PUSH THE "START" BUTTON UNTIL THE CAR CRANKS OVER. FROM TALKING TO MY GARAGE AND DOING ADDITIONAL RESEARCH ON NHTSA, I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM THAT THE 2011-2013 MY DURANGOS WERE RECALLED UNDER, HOWEVER IT APPEARS THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MY 2014 AT LEAST ALSO. I CALLED THE DEALER WHO ALMOST IMMEDIATELY ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE BUT ON A LOOK-UP ON MY VIN DID STATE THAT THIS HAD NOT BEEN RECALLED YET FOR THE 2014S. I WOULD NOTE THE ISSUE MORE FREQUENTLY OCCURS WHEN COLD BUT IT'S NOT CONSISTENT. GIVEN THAT THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA.GOV WEBSITE AND DODGE ENTHUSIAST SITES FOR THIS ALSO, I'D STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT NHTSA GET CHRYSLER/DODGE/STELLANTIS TO ISSUE A FORMAL RECALL FOR THIS ASAP!
2014 DODGE DURANGO, WITH 125,000. HAS RECENTLY REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE OIL/COOLAND HOUSING, WHICH HAS A KNOWN DEFECT AND COST $1800 (MEINEKE). NOW REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF ROCKER/LIFTERS/CAM AT A COST OF $4,200 (RAMSEY DODGE, CHRYSLER JEEP). BOTH REPAIRS ARE KNOWN DEFECTS, BUT NOT WARRANTIED OR SUBJECT TO RECALL BY CHRYSLER DESPITE THESE WELL KNOWN ISSUES AND A RECENT LAWSUIT.
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND HAD NOT BEEN USED SINCE 10PM THE NIGHT BEFORE. AT 7AM I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE AS I LOOKED OUT MY WINDOW. I WENT OUT AND THERE WAS A SMALL FLAME UNDER THE BUMPER NEAR THE EXHAUST PIPE ALSO SOME WIRES SEEMED TO BE ON FIRE. I WENT TO GET A HOSE, AND WHEN I RETURNED THERE WERE FLAMES ERUPTING UP NEAR THE TAIL LIGHT. A NEIGHBOR PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A DRY CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHER. I CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT COULD'VE HAPPENED, BUT SUSPECTED AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. I AM TAKING TO THE DEALER TO UNDERSTAND.
DRIVING HOME AND HEADREST FORCEFULLY DEPLOYED STRIKING BACK OF MY HEAD. I WAS IN FAIRLY HEAVY TRAFFIC AND, AT FIRST, THOUGHT I HAD BEEN REAR ENDED. I DISCOVERED WHAT HAD HAPPENED ONCE I GOT HOME AND SAW THAT THE HEADREST WAS NOT INTACT.
HEADREST DEPLOYED WITHOUT A REAR COLLISION OR HARD BRAKING. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE HEADREST SAFETY MECHANISM DEPLOYED.
DRIVER SIDE HEADREST ASSEMBLY EXPLODED.
THE OIL FILTER ADAPTER HOUSING IS LEAKING OIL. I WAS MADE AWARE THAT IT IS A PROBLEM ON ALL DODGE DURANGO MODELS. THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING OVER $1K FOR THE REPAIR. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH THE COMPANY SHOULD COVER.
THE TAIL LIGHT TRACK ACROSS THE TAILGATE CONTINUES TO TAKE ON WATER. I FIRST HAD IT REPLACED IN APRIL 2018 AT WHICH POINT I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S ABOUT $1300 FIX BUT WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. FAST FORWARD AND EARLY 2020, REPLACEMENT HAS SAME ISSUE WITH CONDENSATION. IT WAS REPLACED AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD IF THERE WERE ANY ISSUES THAT I WOULD BE PAYING OUT OF POCKET AS I WAS PAST THE ORIGINAL 2 YEAR WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. IT IS NOW A YEAR LATER AND THE 2ND REPLACEMENT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS THREE TAILLIGHT FIXTURES HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. DODGE NEEDS TO PAY FOR THIS. ESSENTIALLY I'D BE PAYING $1300 EVERY TWO YEARS TO REPLACE AT THIS POINT OR HAVE BURNT OUT ELECTRIC COMPONENTS BECAUSE OF THE WATER. A $40K VEHICLE WITH 64,000 MILES ON IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A TICKING NOISE OCCURRED COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLICKERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHERE THE TICKING NOISE WAS COMING FROM. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IT COULD BE THE LIFTER OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OXYGEN SENSOR, SPARK PLUGS, AND COIL PACKS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED JIMMY BRITT CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (12114 US-301 S, STATESBORO, GA 30458) AND INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WOULD BE A FEE FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT CHRYSLER HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE TICKING FAILURE HOWEVER, HER VEHICLE YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000.
DRIVERS SIDE SEATBELT WILL NOT RETRACT
My 2014 dodge durango brake lights stay on while in park, can shift into park without pressing the break in, and can start without pressing break.
THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT WON'T RETRACT.
I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT OF MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AND AS I STOPED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN TO THE STREET. THE DRIVER SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED AND HIT ME IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD AND NECK
WATER FILLS UP IN THE LIFTGATE SECTION OF THE TAIL LIGHT ON BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE.
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT 60 MPH MY LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER ON AND OFF. EVENTUALLY THEY STOPPED BUT THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT HAD NEVER CAME BACK ON. I REPLACED THE BULB AND STILL NOTHING. BEING ON THE HIGHWAYS I FELT I WAS CAUSING DISTRACTIONS TO OTHER DRIVERS FROM MY HEADLIGHTS MALFUNCTIONING AND PUTTING MYSELF IN DANGER WITHOUT HAVING THE PROPER LIGHTING TO DRIVE SAFELY.
FRONT SEAT BELT RETRACTORS HAVE LOCKED MAKING THEM UNUSABLE. I AM THE ONLY OWNER, NO ACCIDENTS AND 81000 MILES. DEALER SAYS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND COST TO REPAIR IS OVER $600 EACH. THIS IS A NOTED ISSUE ON THE SAME YEAR JEEP TOO. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM. MY CAR IS CHILD FREE ALSO. THIS IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD NOT BE OCCURRING,
SEAT BELTS WONT RETRACT, FORWARD COLLISION SYSTEM WORKS ONLY HALF THE TOME OR LESS.
