TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY; HOWEVER, SINCE DECEMBER 2009, IT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSORS WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. SHE HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,500.
THE RACK AND PINION ARE SEVERELY LEAKING AND ALSO GETTING REALLY HOT AND CAUSING THE LEAKING FLUID TO FUME INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR...THIS HAS CAUSED WORRY FOR INABILITY TO STEER AT HIGH SPEEDS AND ALSO LIGHT HEADEDNESS IN CAR FROM COLLECTING FUMES INTO CABIN AT STOPS...SO MANY HAVE REPORTED THIS AND I AM REGRETTABLY NOW ONE OF THEM... *TR
DOOR LOCKS ON 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN QUIT WORKING, HAVE SPOKE W/MANY ON INTERNET AND IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM. THERE IS A TSB ABOUT THIS BUT DODGE WILL NOT REPAIR WITHOUT CHARGING $100-$250.00 YOUR DOOR LOCKS ARE CONTROLLED BY THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM). THE BCM MONITORS THE CURRENT DRAW ON THE LOCK AND UNLOCK CIRCUITS, AND WHEN IT GOES ACROSS A THRESHOLD IT WILL DISABLE THE LOCKS TO PRESERVE ITSELF FROM DAMAGE. IF A CIRCUIT WAS SHORTED TO GROUND AND THE BCM KEPT TRYING TO DRIVE THE LOCKS IT WOULD DAMAGE ITSELF. THE ORIGINAL BCM SOFTWARE ON THE 2005 VANS WAS A LITTLE SENSITIVE TO THIS, AND OVER TIME WHEN THE LOCK SOLENOIDS IN EACH DOOR START TO NATURALLY USE A LITTLE MORE CURRENT, THE BCM CAN SET A FAULT CODE AND DISABLE THE LOCKS A LITTLE PREMATURELY. THE BCM SOFTWARE WAS REVISED TO MAKE IT MORE FAULT TOLERANT TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING PREMATURELY. THE FIX IS TO REPROGRAM THE BCM SOFTWARE. THIS IS DONE WITH A DEALER SCAN TOOL, AND TAKES ABOUT A HALF HOUR OF LABOR TO PERFORM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DOORS CAN NOT BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED BY EITHER BUTTON IN VEHICLE OR KEY FOB. PROBLEM HAS BEEN TEMPORARY FIXED BY PULLING IOD FUSE AND RE SETTING COMPUTER. *TR

FILLING VAN UP WITH GAS. ABOUT A MILE AFTER LEAVING THE STATION CAR STALLS. IT NOW OCCURS EACH TIME WE FILL UP WITH GAS. IF WE NEED TO GET ONTO THE INTERSTATE WE DRIVE AROUND FOR ABOUT A MILE FOR THE CAR TO STALL AND DIE BEFORE WE TRY TO GET ONTO THE INTERSTATE. APPARENTLY THIS IS BECOMING A PROBLEM WITH THE DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. DEALERSHIP SAID THIS IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE. DEALERSHIP SAID WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE GAS TANK. APPROXIMATE COST IS $800. WE ARE HANDLING THE STALLING UNTIL WE CAN AFFORD THE $800 TO FIX A DESIGN PROBLEM. THE FUEL FILTER IS IN THE GAS TANK AND SINCE WE NEVER HAVE TO REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER DODGE THOUGHT THAT WOULD BE THE BEST PLACE FOR IT. BRILLIANT DESIGN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT NIGHT AND THE HEAD LIGHTS JUST TURNED OFF. I PLAYED WITH THE SWITCH AND THEY CAME BACK ON IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET THEM TO COME BACK ON SO FAR. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS PROBLEM DOES SERIOUS DAMAGE. *DT

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS HE STARTED HIS VEHICLE AND STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL,THERE WAS RESISTANCE. WITHIN MINUTES, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WON'T COME ON SOMETIMES WHEN I TURN THE SWITCH AND ONCE THEY HAVE EVEN GONE OUT ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. BY DOING AN ONLINE SEARCH IT SEAMS LIKE A LARGE NUMBER OF DODGE GRAND CARAVAN OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN-LOCKED VAN PRIOR TO GOING TO DINNER . NOTED IT DID NOT LOCK ALL THE DOORS. HAD TO GO IN AND MANUALLY LOCK ALL DOORS. NOT SURE HOW TO LOCK THE TRUNK. WHEN WE CAME OUT COULD NOT UNLOCK DOORS HAD TO GO TO ONLY KEYED LOCK AND THEN SEND MY SON IN TO UNLOCK THE REST. WENT TO INTERNET AND FOUND RESEARCHED PROBLEM. FOUND I AM NOT ALONE. PULLED FUSE AND REINSTALLED. THIS WORKS FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE IT HAS TO BE DONE AGAIN. NO WARNING WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. WIFE IS NOT BIG ON DOING THIS AND I CAN'T BLAME HER. HEADLIGHTS ON MY DODGE GRAND CARAVAN INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO TURN ON. FAILURE OCCURS 60 - 75% OF THE TIME. AFTER WIGGLING THE KNOB FOR 5 - 10 MINUTES, LIGHTS USUALLY WILL FINALLY TURN ON. LIGHTS HAVE TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING SEVERAL TIMES. *TR

HAVE DISCONNECTED BATTERY CABLE AND LOCKS WORK AGAIN FOR ANYWHERE FROM 1 DAY TO 3 WEEKS. HAS HAPPENED APROX 25 TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT IN OCT 2009. HAS SOMEWHERE AROUND 55,000 MILES ON IT. THE FACT THAT THERE IS ONLY 1 KEYHOLE ON THE VEHICLE ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR MAKES FOR LOADING AND UNLOADING CHILDREN FROM THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR NEEDS TO BE UNLOCKED AND THE DRIVER NEEDS TO REACH THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE TO PULL UP THE LOCK KNOBS TO OPEN THE OTHER DOORS. SLIDING POWER DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE. SOUNDS LIKE THE MOTOR IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WILL OPEN TO CLOSE PARTLY BUT WILL NOT CLOSE TO LOCK. I HAD TO TIE A CORD THROUGH THAT DOOR THEN LOOP IT AROUND THE PASSENGER'S DOOR TO KEEP IT SHUT UNTIL I GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS HAPPENED LATE AT NIGHT SO THE VAN SAT I THE DRIVE UNLOCKED. *TR
MY AUTOMATIC LOCKS ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARVEN HAVE STOPPED WORKING. THEY DO NOT WORK FROM THE AUTOMATIC LOCK SWITCHES INSIDE THE CAR, NOR DOOR THEY WORK FROM MY KEYCHAIN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A BODY SHOP ASSOCIATED WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FOAM USED BY THE MANUFACTURER WHICH CAUSED THE METAL TO RUST ONCE SUSTAINED WITH WATER. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS REPEATEDLY STOP WORKING. *TR
DRIVING AT NIGHT, WHEN DIMMING LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIME IN LESS THAN 100,000 MILES. BY HOLDING DIMMER SWITCH CONTROL IN "UP" (BRIGHT LIGHTS) LIGHTS STAYED ON. AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME THE LIGHTS AGAIN WORKED PROPERLY. WHEN TAKEN TO A DEALER, TECHNICIANS COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR

I WAS DRIVING TO GET LUNCH BEFORE PICKING UP MY SON FROM SCHOOL. I PULLED INTO A BURGERKING PARKING LOT AS I WENT TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED THE MINI VAN I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A TRAIL OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE LINE HAD EXPLODED. *TR
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN DOOR LOCKS NO LONGER WORK USING THE REMOTE OR THE BUTTONS INSIDE THE VAN. NOT SURE WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS 56,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. THE LOCKS DO NOT ENGAGE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, WHICH IT NORMALLY WOULD DO. I SEE THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE. ONLY TWO OF FIVE DOORS HAVE KEYED LOCKS WHICH CAN BE MANUALLY LOCKED/UNLOCKED WITH THE KEY, BUT WHEN YOU HAVE CHILDREN AND A STROLLER, CRAWLING THROUGH THE VEHICLE WHILE CHILDREN ARE UNATTENDED CREATES ANOTHER SAFETY CONCERN IN MY MIND. I BELIEVE THE REMAINING DODGE DEALERSHIPS SHOULD FIX THIS DEFECT AT NO CHARGE TO DISSATISFIED OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. *TR

I OWN A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. AT APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES, THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS QUIT WORKING. WHEN YOU USE THE KEY FOB OR LOCK SWITCH, THE ACTUATOR MAKES A SOUND BUT THE LOCKS (ON ALL DOORS) WILL NOT LOCK/UNLOCK. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON ISSUE ON THIS YEAR OF CARAVAN AND THERE IS NO KNOWN FIX. CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN MY CHILDREN ARE RIDING IN THE CAR AND THE DOORS ARE UNLOCKED AND/OR WHEN WE CAN'T GET INTO THE CAR AS ONLY THE DRIVERS DOOR CAN BE UNLOCKED USING THE KEY. *TR
I WENT ON LINE TO SEE HOW MANY CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS THERE IS REGARDING MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT. THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THE SAFETY ISSUE IS BY TURN SIGNAL DON'T FUNCTION CORRECTLY. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN I TURN THE SIGNAL FOR LEFT IT GOES RIGHT AND VISE VERSA. SOMETIMES THE SIGNALS DON'T COME ON AT ALL. MY CARAVAN HAS HAD NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND IS NOW SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN OR TO SELL. POWER WINDOW AND DOOR FAILURE,GAUGES JUMPING, RADIO DISCONNECTING ITSELF, LIGHTS TURNING ON AND OFF WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE CAR, AND FINALLY THE END RESULT IS TOTAL POWER FAILURE (SOMETIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION). SCARED FOR MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF MY CHILDREN I HAVE STOPPED DRIVING IT. I HAVE SPENT 1600.00 AT THE DODGE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO FINALLY BE TOLD THEY CAN NO LONGER HELP ME. I HAVE TALKED TO CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND THEY STOPPED CALLING ME BACK. THERE IS CLEARLY THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I AM SICK OVER THE JUNK PILE I CAN'T REMOVE OR REPLACE IN THIS ECONOMY. WHEN WILL CHRYSLER BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE? *TR
I HAVE A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SX. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE SINCE ONE MONTH OF BUYING IT. I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. SINCE THEN, I'VE TAKEN IT BACK NUMEROUS TIMES. THEY EVEN KEPT IT FOR A WEEK AND SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT BACK TO THEM WHEN IT HAD STOPPED. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I'M DRIVING ALL THE INSTRUMENT NEEDLES GO TO NULL. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, IT STARTS TO LOSE POWER. I ONCE WAS IN THE FAST LANE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN I HAPPENED TO LOOK DOWN AND EVERY NEEDLE HAD GONE DOWN. I GOT IN THE LOW LANE AND PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY FOR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN IT WENT DEAD IMMEDIATELY! I CALLED ROADSIDE SERVICE. WHEN I TURNED THE KEY TO CHECK MY MILEAGE IT STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY. THAT WAS SCARY, BECAUSE IF I HADN'T LOOKED DOWN WHEN I DID AND IT LOST POWER BEFORE I COULD GET IT OFF THE HIGHWAY, I BELIEVE THE OUTCOME WOULD'VE BEEN TRAGIC. THIS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE A YEAR OR ONCE EVERY SIX MONTHS. HOWEVER, ONE NEVER KNEW WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN NEXT! THE LAST TIME I DROVE IT FOR SOME DISTANCE I HAD ALMOST GOTTEN HOME (WITHIN TWO MILES) IT DID IT AGAIN, THIS TIME THREE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET HOME. I FEEL BLESSED. TO SAY THE LEASE, I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT AND I'M STILL PAYING FOR THIS TRAP. I WAS CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS WHEN I FOUND A DAIMLER CHRYSLER PROBLEM WEBSITE STATING THAT THEY'RE NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO SOMEONE INJURED OR KILLED BY THESE VEHICLES AND THEY DON'T EVEN TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I NEED AN INTERVENTION OF SOME SORT. I CAN'T AFFORD THIS! *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF. I ALMOST CRASHED BECAUSE OF IT. I HAD THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH REPLACED AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. I DO HAVE THE OLD SWITCH. *TR
POWER DOOR LOCKS QUIT WORKING AT LEAST 3 TIMES A YEAR. *TR
THE OTHER DAY MY AUTOMATIC LOCKS CEASED TO WORK IN THE 2005 GRAND CARAVAN SXT. THE DOOR SWITCH, KEY REMOTE AND WHEN THE CAR GOES OVER 20MPH DID NOT LOCK THE DOORS AT ALL. HAVE LOOKED IN THE MANUAL, NO HELP. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, I WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE VAN IN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM CHANGE THE SOFTWARE IN THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS, I WILL HAVE TO PAY $150-200 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. SINCE THIS IS SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE, WE WILL TAKE THE VAN IN, BUT AFTER READING THE INTERNET SITES--MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS GOING OFF WITHOUT NOTICE (WHILE I HAVE THEM SWITCHED ON). EVENTUALLY THEY WILL COME BACK ON, BUT THERE ARE TIMES THEY DO NOT COME BACK ON WHILE I AM DRIVING. ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE REPORTED ON THE INTERNET BY OTHER USERS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR SINCE I HAVE HAD THE VAN. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS EXIST WITH THIS VAN AND HAVE SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW. LIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF, DOORS NOT WORKING WHEN BUTTONS WERE PUSHED (SHOULD BE AUTOMATIC AFTER BUTTONS PUSHED), WINDOWS NOT WORKING AT ALL WHEN BUTTON IS PUSHED (EVENTUALLY WORK--HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR) AND NOW THE LOCKS DO NOT WORK AT ALL. THE DOOR CONTROLS WERE EVENTUALLY REPLACED BY THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY EVENTUALLY WOULD OPEN SO SLOWLY. THIS PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER OVER SIX TIMES IN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. REPLACED AND HAVE WORKED FINE SINCE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 DODGE CARAVAN. NOT EVERY TIME, BUT ON A REGULAR BASIS, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT COME ON. AND SOMETIMES WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF. VERY SCARY. REGARDING 2005 DODGE CARAVAN DOOR LOCK PROBLEM THE DOOR LOCKS QUIT WORKING ON THIS VEHICLE AFTER 44,000 MILES. IN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, APPARENTLY MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD & THE NHTSA SHOULD IMMEDIATELY REQUIRE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED. APPARENTLY THE NHTSB HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN ADVISED OF THIS PROBLEM & DONE NOTHING TO DEMAND A RECALL. WHY THE DELAY??? *TR
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN; HEADLIGHTS WORK ONLY SPORADICALLY. WILL TURN OFF BY THEMSELVES WHILE DRIVING. WILL ONLY COME ON WITH REPEATED TURNING OF THE SWITCH, AND THEN SOMETIMES ONLY AFTER CAR HAS DRIVEN A FEW FEET. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE AND IS DANGEROUS. *TR
ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING. THEY WONT LOCK BY REMOTE OR ON THE DOOR BUTTON. *TR
I BOUGHT THE CAR IN LAST YEAR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. LAST MONTH I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT AND I WAS PULLED OVER MY A POLICE OFFICER BECAUSE MY HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND AFTER RUNNING A DIAGNOSTIC AND CHECKING IT MANUALLY HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, BUT MY HEADLIGHTS STILL DON'T WORK. AFTER MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT RETURN TO CENTER. I WAS GOING SLOWLY, SO I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE IT WENT INTO THE DITCH. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR WHERE MOST ROADS IN MISSOURI HAVE LIMITED SHOULDERS, I WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO THE DITCH. I WAS ABLE TO WORK IT LOOSE AND THEN LIMP IT HOME VERY SLOWLY, ESP. AROUND CURVES OR CORNERS WHEN IT WOULD STICK AGAIN. UPON TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC, HE FOUND OUT THAT THE RACK AND PINION HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT PROCEEDED TO GO OUT 2 MORE TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. *TR
THE POWER DOOR LOCKS, ON MY 2005 DODGE CARAVAN HAVE QUIT WORKING. I FOUND OUT THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ONBOARD COMPUTER AND AS YET CHRYSLER WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. WE HAVE SMALL GRAND CHILDREN THAT COULD POSSIBLY OPEN THE DOORS WHILE THE VAN IS MOVING, WHICH MAKES IT A DANGER FACTOR. WE HAVE TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BY PULLING A FUSE OR DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLE BUT IT ONLY WORKS FOR A SHORT WHILE AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR
