I OWN A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. I NOTICED LAST SUMMER THAT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS AND DOORS WOULD STOP WORKING. WE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND FOUND THAT IF YOU POPPED ONE OF THE FUSES OUT AND THEN PUT IT BACK IN, THAT IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS WORKED FOR A WHILE. HOWEVER, NOW THE ONLY WAY THAT THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS WORK IS IF EVERY SINGLE TIME BEFORE STARTING THE IGNITION, YOU POP THE HOOD, TAKE OUT THE FUSE AND THEN REPLACE WILL THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS WORK. AND THIS ONLY LASTS AS LONG AS THE VAN HAS BEEN RUNNING; AS SOON AS YOU TURN IT OFF, THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS STOP WORKING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE; IF I AM IN A BAD AREA, I NEED TO HAVE MY LOCKS WORKING. WITH SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR, I NEED TO KNOW THAT MY LOCKS ARE WORKING. EVEN FOR LEAVING SMALL THINGS IN THE VEHICLE, THE LOCKS NEED TO BE WORKING. *TR
I USED THE TURN SIGNAL TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN AND WHEN I GLANCED AT THE DASHBOARD, THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS BLINKING. IT OCCURRED EVERY DAY FOR A WEEK AND THEN LESS FREQUENT. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED FOR TWO WEEKS. I WAS STOPPED WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED. OTHER TIMES I WAS DRIVING. I TOOK IT FOR REPAIR AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND IT DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE THEY HAD THE VAN. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON AND GO OFF ON THEIR OWN. SOMETIMES THEY WON'T COME ON. SOMETIMES THEY WON'T GO OFF. THEY HAVE COME BACK ON AND KILLED THE BATTERY. THEY HAVE EVEN GONE OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT NIGHT IN A RAINSTORM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
DODGE CARAVAN POWER DOOR LOCKS FAIL TO OPERATE UNLESS MANUALLY OPERATED CAUSING CONCERN FOR SAFETY OF FAMILY DUE TO UNABLE TO BE ABSOLUTE THAT THE DOORS ARE SECURED AT ANYTIME. THIS SAFETY CONCERN HAS BEEN NOTED BY CHRYSLER AND WILL FIX AT A COST TO CONSUMER. THIS BEING A PROBLEM WITH A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THIS VEHICLE I FEEL THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED VOLUNTARY, BUT CHRYSLER HAS FAILED TO ACT. *TR
THE POWER DOOR LOCKS CEASE TO WORK. WHEN THE CAR REACHES 20MPH THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK. THE PROBLEM CAN BE REMEDIED BY PULLING THE FUSE AND THEN REPLACING, BUT THAT IS A HUGE HASSLE. IT HAPPENS EVERY 3 WEEKS OR SO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS WERE INOPERABLE ON BOTH FRONT AND REAR DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS AVAILABLE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE BUT WOULD BE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OWNER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN'S POWER LOCKS STOPPED WORKING TODAY,8/05/09. LOOKING ON THE INTERNET FOR SOME ANSWERS TO THE PROBLEM I SEE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS ABOUND BUT NOTHING FROM CHRYSLER IS POSTED NOR HAVE I RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICE. MY VAN WAS PURCHASED NEW ON 03/06/06 AND HAS ONLY 50,000 MILES ON IT. DEALERS WANT TO CHARGE ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ATTEMPTING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD BE CHARGED. CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL ALL VEHICLES WITH THE PROBLEM AND FIX THEM NO/CHARGE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WHICH I BOUGHT USED IN 2005. THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN GOING OFF INTERMITTENTLY SINCE APROX. 4 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THE DEALERS SHOP SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE ISSUE IS VERY RANDOM WITH PROBLEM NOT OCCURRING FOR 2-3 MONTHS AT A TIME, THEN MULTIPLE TIMES, THEN WON'T OCCUR AGAIN FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. IF I TURN THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF WHEN I PARK, SOMETIMES THE PARKING LIGHTS WON'T TURN OFF OR WILL RANDOMLY COME ON. TWO NIGHTS AGO, THE LIGHT SWITCH WAS COMPLETELY OFF AND THE HEADLIGHTS BRIEFLY CAME BACK ON BEFORE SHUTTING OFF. THERE IS NOTHING THAT SEEMS TO TRIGGER THE PROBLEM. TO RESOLVE IT WHILE DRIVING, I HAVE TO TURN THE LIGHT SWITCH ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE LIGHTS WILL COME BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE I'VE BEEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. I CONTACTED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT DODGE THEY RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT IN WHEN THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING- UNFORTUNATELY, IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME AND I ONLY KNOW OF IT HAPPENING AT NIGHT AND THEY'RE CLOSED. IT'S BECOMING MORE OF AN ISSUE SINCE I HAVE 2 TEENAGED CHILDREN THAT DRIVE IT WITH MY 2 YR OLD IN THE CAR. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR
I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY 2005 DODGE CARAVAN. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING POWER SURGES WHILE DRIVING FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS OR SO. THE OTHER ISSUE I AM HAVING IS MY HEADLIGHTS TURNING OFF RANDOMLY WHILE I AM DRIVING. IT SOME TIMES TAKES UP TO 5 MINUTES TO GET THEM TO COME BACK ON. THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE AUGUST OF 2009. SO FAR I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS, BUT I HAVE HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS. I HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER IN BECAUSE IT IS DARK AND I DON'T HAVE ANY LIGHTS. RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN HAVING MORE FREQUENT POWER SURGES WHERE MY LIGHTS FLICKER, MY GAUGES GO HAYWIRE AND MY RADIO TURNS ON AND OFF. I RECENTLY BROUGHT IT IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND MY MECHANIC CONTACTED CHRYSLER BECAUSE HE COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. CHRYSLER TOLD THEM THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER REPORTS OF THIS AND SOME OF THEM HAVE RESULTED IN FIRE. THEY WOULD NOT RELEASE A WAY TO FIX IT BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW HOW YET. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY, I HAVE 2 YOUNG KIDS THAT ARE FREQUENTLY RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE. I AM WORRIED THAT IT WILL START ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING IT AND MY FAMILY COULD BE INJURED. I WOULD LIKE A RESOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM ASAP. I FEEL THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD MAKE THIS A TOP PRIORITY BECAUSE THERE ARE LIVES AT STAKE. *TR
I WAS BRAKING AS I WAS DESCENDING A HILL ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE FRONT BRAKES GOT SO HOT THAT MY AUTOMOBILE STARTED TO SHIMMY. I STOPPED AND DISCOVERED THAT MY RIGHT FRONT BRAKES WERE ON FIRE. I HAD MY FRONT BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED ABOUT 7,000 MILES AGO WITH MOPAR VALUE LINE BRAKES AT THE DODGE DEALERSHIP. MY VEHICLE IS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH 56,380 MILES ON IT. *TR
ALL POWER LOCKS ON 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STOP FUNCTIONING PREVENTING OPENING OF DOORS FROM OUTSIDE OF CAR WHEN LOCKS ARE IN THIS CONDITION. ONLY ONE MANUAL KEYED ENTRY (DRIVERS SIDE FRONT). *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. DIAGNOSED AS DEFECTIVE CLOCKSPRING IN STEERING COLUMN. MAY CASE AIRBAG TO FAIL TO INFLATE IN ACCIDENT. *TR
2005 DODGE CARAVAN - THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS DO NOT WORK. I HAVE INVESTIGATED SEVERAL SOLUTIONS, HAVE TRIED THEM,AND THEY ONLY WORK TEMPORARILY, SUCH AS BATTERY DISCONNECTS, FUSE REPLACEMENT, SOFTWARE UPDATES. I AM VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE SMALL AND I AM AFRAID THEY WILL OPEN THE DOORS AND I CANNOT NOT CATCH THEM IN TIME BECAUSE I CANNOT GET TO THE BACK SEAT. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT A RECALL IS NEEDED. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN EITHER RANDOMLY TURN OFF (BRIEFLY) WHILE DRIVING, OR THEY WON'T TURN ON WHEN SWITCHED ON. AFTER PLAYING WITH THE SWITCH SOME, THEY WILL TURN EVENTUALLY TURN ON. A WEBSITE THAT I USED TO FIND OUT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS ISSUE INDICATED THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE. *TR
DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY, AND THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW OF OUR 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN (63K MILES) JUST FELL OUT AT ~60 MILES PER HOUR. THERE WAS NO WARNING, THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, THE WINDOW WAS NOT VENTED, AND NOTHING WAS UP AGAINST THE WINDOW. WE ARE FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE IN THE RIGHT LANE, AND IT WAS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR, SO THE WINDOW PROBABLY FELL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE ARE ALSO FORTUNATE THAT WE DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING FALL OUT THE WINDOW THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WE REPORTED THE INCIDENT (INFORMALLY) TO THE POLICE SO THAT THEY COULD DRIVE BY THE AREA WHERE IT OCCURRED TO ENSURE THERE WERE NO ROAD HAZARDS. WE HAVE NOTHING TO EXPLAIN WHY THE WINDOW FELL OUT. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY CONCLUDED IT WAS NOT A DEFECT. I'M NOT SURE HOW THEY CAME TO THAT CONCLUSION, BUT THEY SEEM CONTENT THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATION. CHRYSLER PROVIDED NO HELP IN COVERING THE $700 CHARGE TO REPLACE THE WINDOW. ALSO, WHEN I ASKED WHICH GOVERNMENT AGENCY I SHOULD CONTACT TO REPORT THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE, THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER. THEY ONLY STATED THAT THE INCIDENT WILL BE KEPT IN OUR OWN "PERSONAL" FILE, AND IMPLIED THAT KEEPING THIS INFORMATION IN A PRIVATE FILE IS SUFFICIENT. I DISAGREE, AND FEEL THAT THIS COMPLAINT SHOULD BE KNOWN TO THE NHTSA IN CASE THERE ARE OTHER SIMILAR OCCURRENCES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE ELECTRICAL POWER DOOR LOCKS ARE INOPERATIVE. THE CONTACT HAS TO MANUALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN RESET THE SYSTEM AT AN EXPENSE OF $85.00. THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER AND THE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
MY POWER DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND WITH THE REMOTE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THE SOLUTION WAS TO REPROGRAM THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. SEARCHING THIS SITE AND THROUGH GOOGLE SHOWS THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A POPULAR PROBLEM. NOW I ALSO HAVE TO REPLACE THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR POWER LOCK ACTUATOR BECAUSE IT ALSO STOPPED WORKING! *TR

AFTER HAVING RECALL REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V008000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL: SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE), THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD ONLY ILLUMINATE WHEN MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
POWER DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING. CHECKED OWNERS MANUAL TO FIGURE OUT WHICH FUSE TO CHECK AND IT DIDN'T LIST THE FUSE FOR POWER DOOR LOCKS. DID AN ONLINE SEARCH FOR MY VEHICLE MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR AND FOUND THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAY PULL IOD FUSE FOR FIVE SECONDS AND THEN PUT IT BACK IN. THE FUSE IS NOT EVEN BLOWN, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FOR AT LEAST FIVE SECONDS AND THEN PUT BACK IN AND THE POWER LOCKS WORK AGAIN. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED TO ME TWICE IN TWO WEEKS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF YOU ARE IN THE CAR WITH YOUR CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEATS IN THEIR CAR SEATS AND THE DOORS WON'T UNLOCK AND YOU NEED TO GET THEM OUT QUICKLY IN AN EMERGENCY THE ONLY DOORS THAT HAVE A KEY HOLE TO USE THE KEY FROM THE OUTSIDE ARE THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE TRUNK.*TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL OF THE DOOR LOCKS SUDDENLY STOPPED FUNCTIONING ON 02/17/2010. HE NOTICED THE PROBLEM EARLIER IN 2009 BUT REPLACED A FUSE WHICH SEEMED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. HE HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,200. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.

THE POWER LOCKS DO NOT WORK FOR THE DRIVER AND ALL PASSENGER DOORS. THEY WILL NOT WORK WITH EITHER THE REMOTE OR THE INTERIOR LOCK SWITCH OR AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE OVER THE RESET LOCK MPH OF 20. THIS ISSUE STARTED APPROXIMATELY JUNE 2009 AND CONTINUES. DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY AND RECONNECTED AFTER SEVERAL HOURS WILL GET THE LOCKS TO WORK AGAIN BUT ONLY FOR THE TIME BEING. THE POWER LOCKS MAY STOP WORKING AGAIN WITHIN A COUPLE OF HOURS OR DAYS . THE DEALER STATED THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE AT APPROXIMATELY $90 BUT MAY NOT BE A PERMANENT FIX. THE SAFETY ISSUE HERE (A KEY HOLE IS ONLY PROVIDED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR MEANING PEOPLE NEED TO STAND IN THE STREET OR PARKING LOTS WHILE DRIVER OPENS HIS DOOR AND THEN CLIMBS THROUGH THE INTERIOR TO PULL UP THE BUTTONS FOR OTHERS TO ENTER AS WELL AS LOCK NOT LOCKING WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION) A RECALL IS NEEDED TO BE ISSUED FOR THIS POWER LOCK PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE MANUFACTURER OBVIOUSLY KNOWS ABOUT. *TR
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SLIDING DOOR OPENING / CLOSING PROBLEMS. IS IT THE WIRING HARNESS? I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS WITH THIS PROBLEM. DOOR OPENS SLIGHTLY THEN STOPS. MOST DANGEROUS PART IS THAT IT WILL NOT CYCLE TO FULLY PULL THE DOOR IN AND CLOSE COMPLETELY. I FOUND BROKEN WIRE IN THE TRACK AND REPLACED. BUT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. IT IS A DAILY PROBLEM AND THE GREAT ENGINEERS AT CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS FAULTY DESIGN!!! *TR

THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT WILL STOP WORKING WITH NO NOTICE. I HAVE FOUND BY SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET THAT PULLING THE FUSE AND REPLACING IT WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT IT HAPPENS AGAIN WITHIN DAYS. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM FOR MY WIFE AS THIS IS HER CAR AND SHE TRAVELS WITH OUR 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR. SINCE THE VEHICLE IS ONLY ABLE TO BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR ONLY, IT WOULD MAKE IT VERY HARD FOR HER TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE QUICKLY IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH ONE OF OUR KIDS. IT SEEMS DODGE HAS NO SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
DODGE GRAND CARAVAN '05 ALL DOOR LOCKS FAIL TO OPERATE. NOT AWARE OF CAUSE OR EVENTS LEADING UP TO PROBLEM. LOCATED WEBSITE WITH OVER 100 ENTRIES OF CUSTOMERS STATING SAME PROBLEM. DODGE REFUSES TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM OR SAFETY ISSUE. REMOVED AND RE-INSERTED OID FUSE TO TEMPORARILY CORRECT PROBLEM FOR A FEW HOURS. THEN LOCKS FAIL TO OPERATE AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE & DODGE SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO CORRECT IT. ON THE DISCUSSION FORUM HUNDREDS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND DEALERS DO NOT HAVE A SOLUTION EITHER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THIS FAILURE ALLOWS DOORS TO BE OPENED BY CHILDREN. IF THIS IS NOT ADDRESSED THERE WILL BE LAW SUITES DUE TO INJURIES TO THOSE FALLING OUT OF VANS. *TR
I USED THE KEY FOB TO UNLOCK MY CAR AND DROVE TO WORK. MY DOORS ARE SUPPOSED TO LOCK WHEN I REACH 19 MPH. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. MY DOORS WILL NO LONGER LOCK BY ANY MEANS OTHER THAN MANUAL LOCKING. ON OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR. THE WARRANTY COMPANY WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE COMPONENT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER HER EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WERE CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,101.

WHAT THE OTHERS DON'T INCLUDE IS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH IS ELECTRONICALLY AND IT IS ALSO DISABLED WHEN THE POWER LOCKS DON'T WORK. HE THEN REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT SPORADICALLY ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL. THE DEALER ADVISED HER THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

OUR DRIVERS SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR IS NOW ON IT'S 3RD OR 4TH MOTOR. DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT, THEN MY LAST ONE WAS INSTALLED BY MY INDEPENDENT GARAGE. DODGE KNOWS THEY HAVE A ISSUE WITH THESE. THE PASSENGER POWER SLIDING DOOR HAS ALSO HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED, AND I JUST HAD THE HARNESS REPLACED DUE TO A BROKEN WIRE IN IT. ONCE AGAIN, DODGE KNOWS THESE HAVE PROBLEMS, ACCORDING TO MY DEALERSHIP. THESE ITEMS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED FOR FREE. THE VAN ONLY HAS 52K MILES ON IT. *TR

I WENT ONLINE AND DISCOVERED TONS OF PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH 2005 GRAND CARAVAN/CARAVAN. THERE IS A QUICK, TEMPORARY FIX OF REMOVING THE 10D 20A FUSE OR THE NEGATIVE CABLE ON THE BATTERY, BUT THE PROBLEM APPARENTLY RECURS WITH EVER DIMINISHING PERIODS OF TIME IN BETWEEN. THE PERMANENT FIX IS APPARENTLY AN UPDATE TO THE SOFTWARE, WHICH CLEARLY STATES THAT DODGE/CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR ENGINEERING, AND THAT THEY ARE ONLY TOO HAPPY TO TAKE MONEY FROM CONSUMERS TO FIX A SAFETY PROBLEM INHERENT IN THEIR FAULTY DESIGN. WE HAVE TAKEN OUR 2005 DODGE SXT GRAND CARAVAN IN NUMEROUS TIMES FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WHICH MOST OF THE TIME THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE. THEN ON MONDAY MARCH 23 AFTER LEAVING THE CITY AND BRINGING MY CHILDREN HOME FROM SCHOOL I WENT TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND MY STEERING COLUMN LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT COMPLETE THE TURN. WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND TRAFFIC BEHIND I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GUN THE ENGINE AND GO INTO THE FIELD. I STOPPED THE CAR WITH BRAKES THAT WORKED, AT LEAST, AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS COMPLETE FREE PLAY IN THE WHEEL. I TURNED THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT AND THERE WAS A CLUNK AND THEN I AGAIN HAD REGULAR MOVEMENT OF TIRES WITH THE WHEEL. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND THAT I WAS BRINGING IT IN WITH MY DAD FOLLOWING BEHIND. TOMKINSON DODGE HAS HAD IT FOR 2 DAYS AND TOLD ME THAT THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT SINCE IT IS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY CAN'T PINPOINT THE PROBLEM, WARRANTY WON'T PAY UNTIL THEY KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. IT IS TOO EXPENSE TO LET A TECH GET INSIDE AND TAKE THINGS APART TO FIND THE ACTUALLY PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO DRIVE IT AGAIN AND IT WILL BE FINE, BUT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO LET THEM COME AND TOW IT AND DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN!
