APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES OVER THE LAST 3 YRS. THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY VAN HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. ABOUT 6 OF THOSE 10 TIMES THE PROBLEM WAS THAT I COULDN'T GET THE LIGHT TO TURN ON. THE OTHER TIMES, I COULDN'T GET THEM TO TURN OFF. WHEN THE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING THE ONLY WAY TO SEE WAS TO MANUALLY HOLD THE LEVER TO TURN THE BRIGHTS ON AND DRIVE WITH ONE HAND ON THE WHEEL AND THE OTHER ON THE LEVER. AS FAR AS THE LIGHTS NOT TURNING OFF, I HAD TO MANIPULATE THE SWITCH BY TURNING IT OFF AND ON AND PULLING IT OUT TO THE FOG LIGHT POSITION AS WELL AS BANG ON THE DASH TO GET THE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT PRESSED HARDER BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES SINCE OCTOBER 2010. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
1. NORMAL USE 2. AUTOMATIC CLOSE/OPEN DOORS FAIL EVERY TIME THEY ARE USED. DOOR SLIDES OPEN FULLY, DOES NOT CATCH IN OPEN POSITION, THEN CLOSES ON YOU. THE FIRST TIME OR TWO OUR KIDS ALMOST GOT CAUGHT IN DOOR CLOSING. NOW OPEN MANUALLY ONLY. DRIVER SIDE DOOR STARTED FIRST AND NOW PASSENGER DOOR. 3. LOOKING FOR OPTIONS OUTSIDE OF MULTIPLE VISITS TO DEALER. *TR
AUTOMATIC PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN OR SHUT COMPLETELY WITH EITHER BUTTONS OR FOB. WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED MANUALLY THE DOOR CYCLES TO "PULL" ITSELF SHUT. MY CHILDREN NOTICED THIS ALSO STARTING ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR AS WELL. WE BELIEVE A WIRE IN THE PLASTIC BLACK CASING HAS SHORTED OR BEEN SEVERED. *TR
2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN ALL OF SUDDEN DID NOT START. THE FAILURE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE A COMPUTER THAT WAS PUT ON BY DODGE AND CHRYSLER ,THAT IS MALFUNCTION ON ITS VEHICLE.THE PRICE TO REPLACE THIS COMPUTER IS AROUND 700.00. IT HAS ALSO FAILED IN THE TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI VAN AND THE DODGE DURANGO. *TR
I NOTICED A STRANGE SOUND UPON STARTING THE ENGINE AND THEN WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IT WAS A LOW WHINE. I ALSO NOTICED UPON LEAVING THE VAN AFTER DRIVING A STRONG ODOR OF SOMETHING LIKE OIL ON A HOT ENGINE. I WAITED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND FINALLY TOOK IT TO BE CHECKED OUT BECAUSE NONE OF THE GAUGES WERE SHOWING A PROBLEM AND NOTHING ELSE SEEMED WRONG. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A RACK AND PINION PROBLEM AND SEEMED TO BE COMMON WITH THIS MODEL. INSTEAD OF SPENDING THE $1,200 I WAS TOLD THE REPAIR WOULD BE, I HAVE BEEN CONSTANTLY CHECKING THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL AND MAKING SURE IT IS FULL. WHY, IF THIS IS A "COMMON PROBLEM" (WHICH SEEMS TO BE TRUE ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET) HAS THIS NOT BEEN A RECALL? OTHER THAN THIS PROBLEM, I LOVE THE GRAND CARAVAN. IT JUST DOES NOT SEEM THAT AT 41,000+ MILES THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. *TR
MY 2006 GRAND CARAVAN DOES NOT CONSISTENTLY ALLOW THE SLIDING POWER DOOR ON BOTH SIDES CLOSE MORE THAN 1/2 OR 3/4 OF THE WAY. ADDITIONALLY, IF IT DOES CLOSE IT WILL INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT CYCLE FULLY TO FULLY SECURE THE DOOR. AS A RESULT THE POWER MECHANISM WHICH SEALS THE DOOR WILL CYCLE OVER AND OVER UNTIL SOMEONE MANUALLY OPENS THE DOOR AND THEN PULLS IT SHUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR, BUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN WHEN THE REMOTE DOOR CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOR FOUR YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN REAR ENDED A CAR PARKED AT THE STOP LIGHT. THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES BECAUSE HER HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CRASH WAS ALMOST STRAIGHT ON. IF THE AIRBAGS WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED THERE WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN ANY INJURIES LIKE SHE IS SUFFERING NOW. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY MODIFICATIONS MADE TO THE VAN, IT IS THE SAME AS WHEN WE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. *TR
SOMETIMES MY HEADLIGHTS TURN ON SOMETIMES THEY DON'T. THE SWITCH IS FINE AND THE FUSES ARE GOOD. *TR
OUR REAR EVAPORATOR DOES NOT WORK. AIR CONDITIONING DOES NOT WORK. WE ONLY HAVE 48,000 MILES ON OUR VAN AND I HAVE READ A ALOT OF SIMILAR STORIES REGARDING THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE RACK AND PINION ON OUR 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN FAILED (BEGAN TO LEAK POWER STEERING FLUID) BEFORE THE VAN HAD REACHED 60,000 MILES. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR CRASH AND NO ONE WAS HURT. THIS PART WAS REPLACED SOON AFTER WE NOTICED IT HAD BEGAN TO LEAK FLUID. THE WARRANTY OFFERED DID NOT COVER THIS PART. WITH LESS THAN 60,000 MILES ON THE VAN, THIS PART SHOULD HAVE LASTED FOR ALMOST THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PART FAILED WAY TOO SOON AND SHOULD HAVE HAD A MUCH LONGER LIFE. *TR
DOOR LOCK FAILURE ON 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. SLIDING DOOR IS LOCKED AND WILL NOT OPEN MANUALLY OR WITH ELETRONIC BUTTONS. BIG SAFETY ISSUE IF A CHILD OR PASSENGER IS IN THE BACK OF VAN AND YOU COULD NOT GET THE DOOR OPEN TO GET CHILD OR PEOPLE OUT IF AN ACCIDENT WAS TO HAPPEN!!! MY WIFE RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE ON A 2006 DODGE CARAVAN, GETTING READY TO DRIVE IT. THE PARKING BRAKE FOOT PEDAL FLEW UP VERY HIGH, HITTING MY WIFE'S HAND, BREAKING A FINGER. *TR
OUR AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AFTER REPEATED, EXACT TURNS OF THE STEERING WHEEL. HAS TO DO WITH THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING. IT ONLY ILLUMINATES IN TEMPS OVER 70 DEGREES OR SO. WE LIVE IN THE DESERT OF ARIZONA AND HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED IN PREVIOUS RECALLS. WE ARE AFRAID THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. *TR
I OWN A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH ONLY 48,000 MILES ON IT. THE POWER SLIDING DOORS HAVE STOPPED OPERATING PROPERLY. THE DOORS WILL CLOSE ABOUT EIGHT INCHES AND THEN OPEN BACK UP WITHOUT CLOSING ALL THE WAY. TONIGHT THE DOOR HAS OPENED AND WILL NOT CLOSE MANUALLY OR ELECTRICALLY. SO MY VAN IS IN MY DRIVE WAY WITH THE DOOR WIDE OPEN AND WILL BE THERE ALL NIGHT UNTIL I FIGURE IT OUT TOMORROW. MANY PEOPLE THAT I KNOW WITH THESE VANS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER A FEW YEARS OF OWNING THEM. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. IT IS NOT SAFE TO LEAVE A VEHICLE OUTSIDE WITH THE DOOR OPEN ALL NIGHT. I CAN NOT GET THE DOOR TO CLOSE NO MATTER WHAT I DO. CHRYSLER/DODGE SHOULD HAVE IMPLEMENTED A SAFETY MECHANISM THAT WOULD ALLOW AN OWNER TO BE ABLE TO MANUALLY CLOSE THE DOOR IF IT MALFUNCTIONED. THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM, ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR THE MANY, MANY CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE BOUGHT THEIR PRODUCTS THROUGH OUT THE YEARS. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V008000- AIR BAG SENSOR CONTROL MODULE) YET HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE REAR RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT LOCK OR CLOSE PROPERLY. THE LEFT BRAKE LIGHT AND LEFT TURN SIGNALS WERE REPAIRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE EGR VALVE SYSTEM, THE LEFT BRAKE LIGHT, LEFT TURN SIGNAL LIGHT, FRONT WIPERS, FRONT BRAKE PADS, AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. THE VEHICLE ALSO NEEDED A MAJOR TUNE UP. ALL OF THE REPAIRS WERE MADE MINUS THE EGR VALVE SYSTEM AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WHICH THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70867.

WE BOUGHT A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH 10K MILES IN 2007. THE VAN NOW HAS 31,000 MILES AND THE POWER STEERING FLUID STARTED LEAKING. MECHANIC SAID THE RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1,000! THIS VAN IS DRIVEN 20 MILES A DAY, TO-AND-FROM WORK. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, APPARENTLY MANY DODGE CARAVAN OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM ON VANS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. CONSIDERING MOST DRIVE TRAINS LAST THE ENTIRE LIFE OF A CAR/VAN, THIS SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL BY DODGE. *TR

THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE POWER STEERING GEAR PUMP, RACK AND PINION, POWER STEERING RESERVOIR, HIGH PRESSURE LINE AND THE POWER STEERING BELT WERE REPLACED. AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATING A SYSTEM FAULT. 4/13/2010 DEALER SERVICE DEPT, FOUND FAILURE OF BOTH FRONT CRASH SENSORS AND WIRING CONNECTORS CORRODED. BOTH SENSORS AND WIRING NEEDED REPLACEMENT. DEALER ADVISES THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY SERVICE BULLETINS OR RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR

THE CONSUMER STATED OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT COME ON WHEN SHE USED THE SWITCH TO TURN THEM ON. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, SHE NOTICED THE HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT ON, BUT WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THEY CAME BACK ON. WIFE NOTICED ABOUT 5~6 MONTHS AGO A HUMMING NOISE WHEN THE ENGINE IS FIRST FIRED FROM SITTING OVERNITE. A FEW DAYS AGO I DROVE VAN TO WORK A 3 MILE COMMUTE, DROVE FINE, WHEN LEAVING WORK FOR LUNCH I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF POWER STEERING FLUID UNDER THE RIGHT SIDE OF RACKNPINION(RNP). IN CHECKING THE FLUID LEVEL IT WAS DOWN A LITTLE. CALLED DODGE 800-992-1997 TO REPORT OUR '06 GC SXT WITH 21,200 MILES, OBTAINED CASE # AND SETUP APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER TO "DIAGNOSE PROBLEM" $48. DEALER STATED RNP NEEDED REPLACING FOR $1018. I CHECKED WITH LOCAL O'REILLY AUTO PARTS AND COULD GET RNP FOR UNDER $300. DODGE CALLED AND SAID THEY WOULD PAY 40/60, THEM 40%, ME 60%. I EXPLAINED TO REP THAT IF VEHICLE HAD 60~85K MILES I WOULD UNDERSTAND THIS, BUT AT LESS THAN 25K COME ON. THEY REFUSED TO TAKE IT UP THE CHAIN AND ONLY OFFERED THE $400, SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED IN MY RESEARCH THAT I FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER FOLKS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM UNDER THE 50K MARK. NO LUCK WHAT SO EVER. I EXPLAINED TO REP I COULD PURCHASE PART AND REPLACE IT CHEAPER - WHY SHOULD I PAY $600 (PARTS STORE WARRANTY LIFETIME). GOING TO REPLACE IT MYSELF AND SAVE $600. I FEEL DODGE SHOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE SINCE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING QUALITY ISSUE. I AM TIRED OF HAVING FLUID ALL OVER MY CONCRETE DRIVE WAY. THANKS DODGE, FOR NOTHING. CALLED DODGE REGARDING CURRENT RECALL, WHICH IS FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, BUT THEY SAY MY VEHICLE ISN'T PART OF RECALL. *TR

WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN ON 2/24/10 FOR REPAIR, I WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS FLUID WAS LEADING. MY CAR HAS ONLY A LITTLE OVER 62,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A DODGE DEALERSHIP THAT THE FOLLOWING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR AND I NEED THE FOLLOWING: - ERG VALVE - WATER PUMP - POWER STEERING RACK - RACK & PINION EVEN THOUGH THE CAR RUNS FINE AND DOES NOT SHAKES OR ANYTHING. SOME OF THEM HAVE LOW MILEAGE ON THEIR CARS AND OTHERS HAVE HIGH MILEAGE. IT IS TOO MUCH OF A COINCIDENCE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS ON THEIR 2006 G. CARAVAN. SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 LINE AND IF THIS IS THE CASE IS SOMETHING DODGE NEEDS TO FIX AND COVER THE REPAIR COSTS AND NOT THE OWNERS. OUR 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH LESS THE 28,000 FELT LIKE IT WOULD NOT FULLY STOP WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES. I ALREADY HAD THE FRONT BRAKES DONE AND TAKE IT TO THE DEALER ROUTINELY FOR OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION. SO I THOUGHT IT WAS THE TIRES SINCE THEY WERE GREATLY WORN (WHICH IS HARD TO BELIEVE @ THIS MILEAGE) WE CHANGED ALL 4 TIRES. MECHANICS OWN DESCRIPTION ON RECEIPT " CK. BRAKES ARE SCRUBBING IN REAR ROTORS WERE RUSTED TO HUB. PINS FOR PARKING BRAKE SHOES TO BACKING PLATE BROKE WHEN TAKING OFF. REPLACED BRAKE PINS & 2 BROKEN WHEEL STUBS. CHRYSLER HAS NO RESPECT FOR CUSTOMERS SAFETY. TIRES AND BRAKES ARE WORTHLESS, AUTOMATIC DOORS MALFUNCTION ALL THESE ARE SAFETY ISSUES! NOT TO MENTION THERE CARS ARE LEMONS WATER PUMP BROKEN, ISSUES WITH AIR BAG, ENGINE LIGHT ON (5 TIMES) AND AIR CONDITIONING ALL THIS WITH LESS THEN 28,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I OWN A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT THAT I BOUGHT NEW. IT HAS 54044 MILES AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON THE DASH BOARD. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND A RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG SENSOR DATED 01/11/2010. I CHECKED WITH DODGE, WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH I'M EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM LISTED IN THE AIRBAG RECALL DATED 01/11/2010. I LIVE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK. WE HAD A SNOW STORM ON 2/6/10. AFTER THE SNOW FALL MY HUSBAND MOVED OUR 2006 GRAND CARAVAN SXT FROM THE DRIVEWAY TO THE STREET TO CLEAN THE DRIVEWAY. WHILE TALKING TO A NEIGHBOR THE REAR GLASS POPPED AND SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES. THERE WERE NO CARS THAT PASSED AND MAY HAVE KICKED UP DEBRIS CAUSING THIS INCIDENT. ALSO THE GLASS WAS CLEAR OF SNOW AND ICE. THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THAT THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE SHADE AND THEN MY HUSBAND PARKED IT IN THE SUN. PERHAPS THE COLD WEATHER CAUSED THIS? I CALLED DODGE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL BUT THERE WAS NONE.
ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS MY 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SE GAS PEDDLE GOT STUCK. THREE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IT GOT STUCK. IT DIDN'T ACCELERATE BUT SLOWLY REDUCED MY SPEED. I HAD TO STEP ON IT REPEATEDLY IT GET IT UNSTUCK. THE FOURTH TIME I WAS IN PARK AND TRYING TO REVERSE AND IT WAS STUCK, VERY HARD THAT I COULDN'T PRESS IT DOWN. THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2006 DODGE CARAVAN HAVE BEEN INTERMITTENT ON A HALF DOZEN OCCASIONS SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW. IN ALL INSTANCES, BY JIGGLING (TURNING ON/OFF) THE SWITCH, I HAVE GOTTEN THE LIGHTS BACK ON. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS ON 01/25/2010 COMING HOME IN A SNOWY (WHITE OUT) CONDITIONS IN IOWA AND MY LIGHTS WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I WAS ABLE TO GET THEM BACK ON IN A RELATIVELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, BUT COULD NOT SEE THE ROAD, ETC., BECAUSE OF THE SNOWY WHITE OUT CONDITIONS. COULD VERY WELL HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT OF MAJOR INJURY. I SEE MANY POSTS ON THE INTERNET RELATED TO THIS SAME PROBLEM ON VARIOUS DODGE/CHRYSLER MINI VANS OF VARIOUS YEARS.*CW

WITHIN THE LAST YEAR, NOT ONLY DO THE LOCKS NOT FUNCTION, BUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR IS LOCKED, AND I CANNOT UNLOCK IT. THE COST TO REPLACE THE DOOR IS EQUIVALENT TO THE THE COST OF A HEALTHY DOWN PAYMENT ON A CAR, AND THE COST-PROHIBITIVE NATURE OF THE REPAIR MEANS THAT THE DOOR IN QUESTION CANNOT BE REPAIRED. I WOULD ASSERT THAT THE INABILITY TO OPEN THE DOORS ON A PASSENGER VEHICLE CREATES AN DANGER TO ANY WOULD-BE PASSENGERS. IF THERE WERE AN ACCIDENT, THEN A PERCEIVED METHOD OF EGRESS IS RENDERED UNAVAILABLE BY THESE FAULTY PARTS.
